RESUMEN

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES: Demand forecasting is a vital step for production planning and consequently, for supply chain efficiency, especially for the pharmaceutical (pharma) supply chain due to its unique characteristics. Numerous models and techniques that are proposed in the literature but little in concrete and generic framework to forecasting process, mainly for pharmaceutical supply chain. Unlike studies in the literature, this study not only perfectly predict the sales of a pharma manufacturer, but also visualize the results via a developed dashboard using modern information technology and business intelligence. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this research, a rolling forecasting framework comprising of different steps and specialized tools is proposed that can assist supply chain managers to perform an accurate sales forecasting and consequently a better performance and specifically patient satisfaction. The proposed generic framework combines the use of Visual studio C++ software to extract optimal forecasting and the Power BI software to monitor the accuracy of the obtained sales forecasts. Three exponential smoothing methods are integrated in the proposed framework, which is open to adding more new forecasting methods. RESULTS: The proposed framework is tested for many data sets from a pharmaceutical manufacturer company, and the results obtained show superior performance, especially a clear decline in both forecast errors, which can reach 75% and a drop of stock level to 50%. Therefore, the company is currently using it and a future integration with their ERP is being carried out. CONCLUSION: The proposed rolling forecasting framework contributes to insightful decision-making through the visualization of accurate future sales and turnover, and consequently, an efficient stock management and effective production planning.

RESUMEN

Pulmonary Opacities - What Lies Beneath? Abstract. Abstract: Pulmonary opacities are among the most common findings that general practitioners and internists have to interpret in everyday life. Conventional chest x-rays are still important, but computed tomograms often provide additional information. Patient history, clinical examination but also additionally collected laboratory findings are important prerequisites for the interpretation of imaging studies. Likewise, radiological patterns should be recognized and correctly described. The density, distribution to one or both sides, basal or apical, unifocal or multifocal, also the involvement of the interstitial tissue, bronchioles, the alveolar space and pleura can provide decisive differential diagnostic information. Space-occupying or shrinking processes may be suspected on behalf of the course of pleural lines. Tumours may be differentiated from shrinking lung volume as seen in atelectasis by shift of the mediastinum or the shape of pleural lines. Occasionally control images can support the interpretation of the radiological results.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The dynamics and complexities of in utero fetal development create significant challenges in transitioning from lab animal-centric developmental toxicity testing methods to assessment strategies based on new approach methodologies (NAMs). Nevertheless, considerable progress is being made, stimulated by increased research investments and scientific advances, such as induced pluripotent stem cell-derived models. To help identify developmental toxicity NAMs for toxicity screening and potential funding through the American Chemistry Council's Long-Range Research Initiative, a systematic literature review was conducted to better understand the current landscape of developmental toxicity NAMs. METHODS: Scoping review tools were used to systematically survey the literature (2010-2021; ~18,000 references identified), results and metadata were then extracted, and a user-friendly interactive dashboard was created. RESULTS: The data visualization dashboard, developed using Tableau® software, is provided as a free, open-access web tool. This dashboard enables straightforward interactive queries and visualizations to identify trends and to distinguish and understand areas or NAMs where research has been most, or least focused. CONCLUSIONS: Herein, we describe the approach and methods used, summarize the benefits and challenges of applying the systematic-review techniques, and highlight the types of questions and answers for which the dashboard can be used to explore the many different facets of developmental toxicity NAMs.

RESUMEN

Newborn screening (NBS) is a vital public health program and delays in the screening process can lead to catastrophic outcomes for infants and their families. Efforts to improve screening quality in Tennessee are proactive and ongoing. From these efforts, an open-access dashboard has been developed to address a need for methods to better visualize performance data, promote data transparency, and drive quality improvement. Dashboard development was a collaboration between a fellow from the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and Tennessee NBS staff. Iterative dashboard prototypes were developed using Tableau software and incorporated feedback from Tennessee birthing facility staff and health experts. Infrastructure and procedures were created to reduce the burden of future dashboards. Eight NBS performance indicators are visualized across several views. These views are designed to provide an overview of NBS performance data when first accessed, then allow for a drill-down into specific data. This dashboard drives introspection at the state and facility level, making it possible to identify potential issues and necessary corrective actions earlier, therefore improving the completeness and timeliness of NBS in Tennessee. The experiences from developing this dashboard can be applied to future dashboard development in Tennessee NBS and other public health programs implementing similar measures.

RESUMEN

This paper aims to conduct a systematic overview of green growth literature and reveal the evolution, hot topics, as well as future directions of this field. Given the dispersion of the existing related studies, the development and evolution process of green growth have yet to be comprehensively reviewed. The qualitative review cannot objectively and quantitatively screen out important keywords, possibly leading to bias. This study uses a hybrid method based on bibliometric analysis and the fuzzy Delphi method to review 806 papers from the Scopus database. The findings show that there is an exponential rise in publications with the leading authors, countries, and institutions concentrated in South Korea, China, and the USA. The contents of core literature are focused on pathways and influencing factors of green growth. Hot topics, including policy support, resource management, emission reduction, and the application of new technology, are summarized. The top 5 keywords for future directions are energy, economy, emission, development, and management. The findings offer some valuable contributions to both academic and practical investigations of green growth.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo collect and screen records concerning the spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes in ancient books of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) using an automated framework and to systematically explore the concept evolution of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes using the visualization method. MethodA total of 1 224 kinds of ancient book data in the Ancient Books of Traditional Chinese Medicine Database (V2.1) were analyzed using the automated testing tool Selenium WebDriver with the Python 3.8 programming language and the etree library of Lxml for automatic collection and statistics of the "book title" "author" "classification" "dynasty" "completion time", and "informative abstract". After being checked and collated, the collected data were visually analyzed with Tableau (V2020.1.3) for figuring out the concept evolution of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes in the past dynasties from the perspectives of symptoms and signs, etiology and pathogenesis, principle-method-recipe-medicinal, and prognosis. ResultA total of 7 203 clauses were automatically collected from 989 ancient books. It was found that in the pre-Qin period, there were few ancient books related to the spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes, and the understandings were confined to the superficial symptoms or signs and the basic etiology and pathogenesis. From the Han to Sui and Tang dynasties, the related concepts gradually increased and the descriptions about the manifestations are more detailed than those in previous dynasties. The etiology, diagnosis, and treatment system of the spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes were further perfected. In the Song, Jin, and Yuan dynasties, such concepts as independent signs, symptoms, as well as nature and location of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes were enriched. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, a TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment system for spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes was formed, and the related concepts were gradually simplified and unified. ConclusionThe concepts of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes have undergone an evolution from simplicity to complexity and then back to simplicity. There are numerous ancient books discussing the concepts of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes, exhibiting a fluctuating yet rising trend with time. The automated framework enables the construction of a lightweight database of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes. Based on data visualization, the concept evolution of the spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes from ancient times to the present has been efficiently uncovered, which is conducive to tracing the origin and development of spleen and stomach diseases and syndromes in TCM. This has provided reference for related research of spleen and stomach diseases in modern Chinese medicine.

RESUMEN

Objective:To obtain ancient traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)literatures relating to tumor and visual analysis by an automatic framework tool, in order to systematically sort out the development of ancient Chinese medicine oncology. Method:Based on the database platform of ancient TCM books, names of tumor-related diseases in ancient TCM books were retrieved by Selenium WebDriver, an automation framework tool under Python 3.8. Lxml's etree library was used to parse the data. Statistics was made for "classification", "authors", "completion time" and "summary" of relevant ancient books automatically. After the data was checked and processed, Tableau 2019.2 software was used for data visualization analysis. And ancient Chinese medicine literatures relating to tumor were consulted at the database manually, with the dynasties as the clue, and the symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis and prognosis as the emphasis, this paper explores the development process of TCM oncology. Result:A total of 774 349 bytes of text data of 1 128 entries in 242 ancient books were included automatically. According to the findings, there were simple classification and time distribution of tumor diseases in ancient TCM books in the pre-Qin period, with a simple view on the pathogenesis of tumor diseases. From the Han dynasty to the Tang dynasty, the number of relevant literature records and the types and disease names had gradually increased, which further enriched the cognition of tumor nature, signs, classification methods, differential diagnosis;in Song and Ming dynasties, the proportion of Chinese prescription books and surgery books had increased gradually, with the largest number of abdominal organ tumor names among all dynasties;from Qing dynasty to the Republic of China, literatures relating to tumor name and classification were the most improved, and then the TCM tumor syndrome differentiation and treatment system had been formed. Conclusion:It was found that TCM oncology originated in the pre-Qin dynasty, and was improved in the Han and Tang dynasties, mature in the Song and Ming dynasties and completed in the Qing dynasty and the Republic of China. The data visualization method with integrated automation framework and parsing tools is helpful to analyze the subdivision characteristics of ancient TCM literatures, which is convenient, efficient and innovative,in the expectation to provide a classic reference for contemporary TCM studies.

RESUMEN

We recently developed an unsupervised Bayesian inference methodology to automatically infer a dictionary of protein supersecondary structures (Subramanian et al., IEEE data compression conference proceedings (DCC), 340-349, 2017). Specifically, this methodology uses the information-theoretic framework of minimum message length (MML) criterion for hypothesis selection (Wallace, Statistical and inductive inference by minimum message length, Springer Science & Business Media, New York, 2005). The best dictionary of supersecondary structures is the one that yields the most (lossless) compression on the source collection of folding patterns represented as tableaux (matrix representations that capture the essence of protein folding patterns (Lesk, J Mol Graph. 13:159-164, 1995). This book chapter outlines our MML methodology for inferring the supersecondary structure dictionary. The inferred dictionary is available at http://lcb.infotech.monash.edu.au/proteinConcepts/scop100/dictionary.html .

RESUMEN

Data play a crucial role in health research, education, and patient care. Initiatives such as Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) and Precision Medicine point to the increasing focus and value of data use and reuse. As the universe of data continues to grow exponentially, health education needs to provide students with practical hands-on learning sessions that illustrate the multitude of uses for data and statistics. Giving students early exposure to data reuse provides a solid background for the more complex data they may gather later in their education. This column describes how librarians at a general academic library used data dashboards and Tableau in two library sessions to provide students with hands-on experience in data visualization and its role in decision-making.

RESUMEN

Infectious diseases are unpredictable, with heterogeneous clinical presentations, diverse pathogens, and various susceptibility rates to anti-infective agents. These features lead to a wide variety of clinical practices, which in turn strongly limits their evaluation. We have been using a medical table since 2005 to monitor the medical activity in our department. The observation of heterogeneous therapeutic practices led to drafting up our own antibiotic guidelines and to implementing a continuous evaluation of their observance and impact on morbidity and mortality associated with infectious diseases, including adverse effects of antibiotics, duration of hospital stay, use of intensive care, and deaths. The 10-year analysis of medical practices using the medical table is based on more than 10,000 hospitalizations. It shows simplified antibiotic therapies and a reduction in infection-related morbidity and mortality. The medical table is a major tool for antimicrobial stewardship, leading to constant benefits for patients.

RESUMEN

Parkinson's Disease (PD), a prevalent problem, especially for the aged populations, is a progressive but non-fatal nervous system disorder. PD patients have special motor as well as non-motor symptoms over time. There are several limitations in the study of PD such as unavailability of data, proper diagnosis and treatment methods. These limitations significantly reduce the quality of PD patient life quality, either directly or indirectly. PD also imposes great financial burdens to PD patients and their family. This project aims to analyze the most common reasons for PD patient hospitalization, review complications that occur during inpatient stays, and measure the costs associated with PD patient characteristics. Using the HCUP NIS data, comprehensive data analysis has been performed. The results are customized visualized using Tableau and other software systems. The preliminary findings sheds light into how to improve the life quality of PD patients.
