The professional interventions of social workers and librarians during the COVID-19 pandemic converged in the use of information technologies to meet the information needs of both medical personnel and patients and their families. The collaboration of these two professionals would significantly strengthen the multidisciplinary health team by improving the information flow channels that are carried out in the hospital, promoting humanized health care and carrying out social inclusion actions in libraries to provide greater and better opportunities and resources for the vulnerable population.

RESUMEN

This paper is based on Helen Kiely's Masters dissertation on MA in Library and Information Service Management, successfully completed at the University of Sheffield in 2018. The aim of the study was to explore the extent to which users of a health care library service understood common terminology used by clinical librarians/information professionals. A survey was developed based on the terminology used for common services and was distributed to staff and students at an acute NHS Foundation Trust. One hundred and eight people participated over a four week period and were asked to provide definitions to the terms. Analysis of the responses for accuracy and common themes indicates that jargon can be a barrier to user access and recommendations are made with respect to the need for outreach to users and the language used in this practice for creating better accessibility. RESUMEN

Introduction: Therapeutic goals in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have evolved, over the last decades, from clinical response to complete remission (clinical and endoscopic remission).Areas covered: Development of biologics and small molecules has been associated with the development of new endpoints in IBD trials that could not have been achieved in the pre-biologics era. Herein, we focus on evolving endpoints for approved biologics and small molecules. We searched for relevant publications using Medline/PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library from their inception to 1 July 2019.Expert opinion: Endpoints differ between induction (clinical and endoscopic response) and maintenance trials (clinical and endoscopic remission) because the goal is to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of a given drug during induction, whereas full disease control is the ultimate goal during the maintenance phase in order to change patients' life and disease course. Histological healing has recently emerged as a new co-primary endpoint in ulcerative colitis, and is now part of the definition of mucosal healing in these trials. Whether new endpoints such as transmural and radiologic healing could become an endpoint and replace endoscopy in Crohn's disease trials in the near future requires further investigation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The Goal 3 (SDG-3) of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) incorporates 13 targets that cut across pressing health concerns globally. Health literacy has however been linked to achieving good health in the society, and its improvement in developing economies could aid the achievement of SDG-3. OBJECTIVE: The review focused on identifying actions that can be implemented by libraries to enhance health literacy and access to information among health care practitioners and consumers to support the achievement of SDG-3 in developing countries, especially Nigeria. METHOD: A literature search was conducted on reputable academic databases, namely sciencedirect, doaj, google scholar, pubmed and jstor. Similar keyword combinations were used to obtain articles, with filters set to search the keywords in article titles or abstract. Relevant criteria were used to screen the literature. RESULTS: Results from the literature searching were grouped under six themes that emerged from the literature. The value of libraries in health care was discussed, and suggestions were made for implementation in libraries. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that libraries in developing economies have to take actions to improve users' health literacy in order to become prominent stakeholders in the process of achieving SDG-3.

RESUMEN

Scientific journals have virtually disappeared as subscription-based familiar paper copies. These have been replaced by article by article access on internet sites (either subscription based paid for by libraries in multi-journal often million dollar 'Big Deal' packages or by author prepayments of thousand dollars 'article processing fees' (Omary and Lawrence, Dealing with rising publication costs. The Scientist 2017;31:29-31), followed by open access. The result appears to be the death of the traditional scientific journal as a familiar means of communication, after nearly 350 years from the time of Anton van Leeuwenhoek and Robert Hooke (for two early microbiology examples). Rather than journals with page numbers, individual reports are accessed using titles or manuscript file code numbers. This commentary is knowingly provocative, describing the rapidly changing situation in scientific publication at the beginning of the 21st century and predicting a bad future, basically the end of the long-time most-used vehicles for scientific communication, the paper scientific journal with volumes and pages. This view is not particular to this author and appears frequently today (e.g. The Scientist 2012; https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2016/10/26/revisiting-why-hasnt-scientific-publishing-been-disrupted-already/). This negative conclusion offers no better possibilities, as it is concluded that it is already too late and too far along this pathway for any meaningful middle ground. This commentary is intended for a broad group of potential readers, including authors and readers of this journal (who are active microbial scientists who need to adapt to individual manuscript identification numbers replacing page numbers), as well as the larger community interested broadly in scientific communication, and even our institutional librarians (who have experienced the disappearance of paper copies from their shelves, and especially unsustainable rapid increases in money costs at a time of very limited resources).

RESUMEN

It's conference time again! There is an exciting programme in prospect in this year's biennial Health Libraries Group (#HLG2018) conference covering key elements of library and information workers' daily practice. Uppermost in everyone's mind is the importance of ongoing personal and professional development with the Health Libraries Group Continuing Professional Development Panel putting this into practice as they host regional peer support sessions for presenters in the period leading up to the conference. As the official journal of the Health Libraries Group, the Health Information and Libraries Journal is similarly keen to support presenters in the practical task of translating their presentations into papers. Do get in touch if you would like advice on what to do next.

Future reflection on the university library in Cuba requires of a historic analysis. Though several research works have studied the information activity in the country, university libraries have not been given a particular attention on this issue. Applying the historic and logic method, the evolution of the Cuban university library is presented. To determine the features of that evolution some items have been taken into account such as, collection, personnel, services, functioning and research work. All of this has enabled the author to identify three main stages: Emerging (1846-1959), Extensive development (1960-1989) and Technological Development (1990- up to the present). Each stage is characterized including those fundamental aspects from the university development which have influenced its evolution(AU)

RESUMEN

The technological complexity and richness of a child's environment today is far beyond what any adults today experienced when they were growing up. For example, no adult today knows what it is like to be a four-year-old using his or her first iPhone app or Webkinz account. Therefore, we seek ways to understand what children need in today's new technologies even without ourselves being children. Since 1999, young people ages seven to eleven have been the author's partners in codesigning new educational technologies at the University of Maryland's Human-Computer Interaction Lab. This work has helped inform who children are--what matters to them, what technologies need to be changed, and what needs to be built for the future. This work uses cooperative inquiry, a set of codesign methods that can enable adults and children to share their ideas while minimizing the differences in age and communication styles. This article describes low-tech methods for brainstorming, offering feedback, and supporting creative change in technology prototype designs. Examples of technologies are discussed and insights from children shared.
