BACKGROUND: Pediatric migraine prophylaxis is indicated when headaches are frequent and/or disabling. We aimed to conduct a study to compare the efficacy of cinnarizine and amitriptyline in pediatric migraine prophylaxis. METHODS: In a randomized, double-blind trial, patients aged 4-17 years with migraine who were eligible for prophylaxis enrolled. The primary outcome was a reduction response rate of ≥50% with p < 0.005 with respect to headache characteristics. The secondary outcome was migraine disability assessment. We evaluated patients every four weeks for three months: T1: week 4, T2: week 8 and T3: week 12. The safety profile was also assessed. RESULTS: Thirty patients were randomly assigned to each group. However, 43 patients completed the trial. Headache frequency decreased in amitriptyline group more effectively in T1 (p = 0.004). Amitriptyline was more successful in reducing the headache duration in all three periods (p < 0.005). There was no significant difference in severity improvement and reducing disability score between the two groups (p > 0.005). No serious adverse events were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Both medications are effective in ameliorating migraine headaches and related disabilities. However, amitriptyline appears be a preferable option over cinnarizine, given its faster onset of action, efficacy in reducing headache duration and longer-lasting effects.Trial Registration: The study was registered with the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) under the code IRCT-20191112045413N1.

Flight simulators have an essential role in aircrew training. Occasionally, symptoms of motion sickness, defined as simulator sickness, develop during these sessions. Preventive methods for motion sickness have been investigated thoroughly; however, only a few studies have examined preventive treatments for simulator sickness. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of scopolamine (an anticholinergic drug) compared with cinnarizine (an antihistaminic drug) for helicopter simulator sickness prevention. A validated simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ) score was used to determine the severity of simulator sickness symptoms in this study. Preliminary SSQ scores and SSQ scores after each sortie were calculated. Each participant was given scopolamine, cinnarizine, or a placebo in a double-blind randomized manner before the first sortie of each training day. Forty-one helicopter pilots participated in the trial. The average age was 30.5 ± 7.1 years. SSQ values significantly improved from an average of 73.30 in the preliminary SSQ questionnaire to an average of 30.92 after 2 hours following the administration of cinnarizine (P = .012, 95%CI 8.071-76.703). Scopolamine was found to be less effective than both cinnarizine and the placebo in the alleviation of simulator sickness symptoms. This study is the first to compare scopolamine with cinnarizine for simulator sickness prevention. Based on the results of this study, we recommend the use of cinnarizine over scopolamine for simulator sickness prevention.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and analyze the available data on the prophylactic effectiveness of cinnarizine in migraine disorder. BACKGROUND: Cinnarizine has demonstrated encouraging potential in preventing the attacks of migraine. Therefore, we opted to evaluate whether its sole administration leads to positive outcomes. METHODS: The PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched for English-only original interventional studies published until April 2022, then screened for relevancy and eligibility. The resulting data from the included studies, including the primary (ie, headache episode frequency, intensity, duration, monthly timing, and analgesic intake frequency) and secondary (ie, reported adverse events, quality of life, and activities of daily living) outcome changes compared to placebo and active controls (e.g., sodium valproate and propranolol) were then recorded by two independent assessors. Ultimately, these data were synthesized qualitatively and quantitatively (achieved by determining the mean difference via the random-effects model). RESULTS: A total of 10 studies comprising seven randomized controlled trials and three quasi-experimental studies were included. Compared to placebo, cinnarizine demonstrated significant improvements in migraine episode frequency (Mean difference = -3.10; Confidence interval = [-3.33, -2.88]; p-value < 0.001; I2  < 0.001%), and intensity (Mean difference = -1.54; Confidence interval = [-2.08, -0.99]; p-value < 0.001; I2  < 37.97%). Moreover, cinnarizine led to similar or better results when compared to active controls, including sodium valproate, topiramate, and propranolol. CONCLUSIONS: Cinnarizine can be considered a safe and effective medication for migraine prophylaxis. However, the relatively small sample size made reaching a definite conclusion impossible. Therefore, a higher number of randomized controlled trials are recommended to be taken place to clarify the situation further.

Acute migraine attacks disrupt performance and reduce the quality of life. Therefore, efforts to prevent these attacks continue using different medications. This study aimed to compare the effect of cinnarizine combination with propranolol and propranolol with placebo in preventing acute migraine attacks. This study was a semi-experimental study performed on 120 adult patients with migraine referred to Department of Neurology in Rezgary Teaching Hospital in Erbil.. Participants were randomly allocated to two groups control (propranolol) and intervention (propranolol with cinnarizine). The frequency, duration and severity of headache attacks were recorded and followed within two months. Data were analyzed with SPSS ver23 software and T-paired, independent T-tests and ANOVA. The average age of the participants was 34.54 years. 60% were female and 55% had a family history of migraine. The average frequency of headache attacks in the intervention group decreased by 75 % (from 15 times to 3 times) and a 50 % decrease in the control group (from 12 times to 6 times). The duration and severity of headaches in both intervention and control groups decreased (p <0.001), respectively. The average frequency, duration and severity of headache attacks in the first- and second months during treatment in the intervention group and control group were statistically different (p <0.001). The drug combination of propranolol with cinnarizine has an additional effect on reducing acute migraine attacks compared to propranolol alone.

Vertigo is not itself a disease, but rather a symptom of various syndromes and disorders that jeopardize balance function, which is essential for daily activities. It is an abnormal sensation of motion that usually occurs in the absence of motion, or when a motion is sensed inaccurately. Due to the complexity of the etiopathogenesis of vertigo, many pharmacological treatments have been tested for efficacy on vertigo. Among these drugs, cinnarizine, usually given together with dimenhydrinate, appears to be the first-line pharmacotherapy for the management of vertigo and inner ear disorders. Based on these considerations, the present non-interventional study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy and tolerability of a fixed combination of cinnarizine (20 mg) and dimenhydrinate (40 mg) in patients suffering from vertigo-related symptoms. To this end, we enrolled 120 adults-70 males, and 50 females-with an average age of 64 years. Before beginning pharmacological treatment, all patients were screened for the intensity of vertigo, dizziness, and concomitant symptoms through the Visual Scale of Dizziness Disorders and Dizziness Handicap Inventory scales. At the end of the anamnestic evaluation, patients received the fixed-dose combination of cinnarizine (20 mg) plus dimenhydrinate (40 mg) 3 times daily, for 60 days. The results of this study provide further insight regarding the efficacy of the fixed combination when used to reduce symptoms of vestibular vertigo of central and/or peripheral origin, after both the 15- and 60-day therapies. Independent of the type of vertigo, the fixed combination was able to reduce dizziness- and vertigo-associated symptoms in more than 75% of all patients treated, starting from 15 days of therapy, and improving 60 days after starting the therapy. Interestingly, we also found differences between male and female patients in the framework of the pharmacological effects of therapy. This study provides further details concerning the therapeutic efficacy of the fixed combination of cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate, and also focuses attention on the possibility that these drugs could act in a gender-specific manner, paving the way for further research.

As an important global disease, cutaneous leishmaniasis is associated with complications such as secondary infections and atrophic scars. The first line treatment with antimonials is expensive and reported to have serious side effects and enhance resistance development. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Cinnarizine on standard strains of Leishmania major because of paucity of information on this subject. METHODS: In this experimental study, four concentrations of the drug (5, 10, 15 and 20 µg/ml) were added to Leishmania major cultures at 24, 48 and 72 hours intervals. MTT assays were performed to determine parasite viability and drug toxicity. Leishmania major promastigotes were augmented to the in vitro cultured macrophages (J774 cells) and then incubated for 72 hours. Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was ascertained by counting parasites. The inhibitory effect of the drug was compared with that of Glucantime. Flow-cytometry was performed to investigate apoptosis. Each test was repeated thrice. RESULTS: The IC50 values of Cinnarizine after 72 hours were calculated to be 34.76 µg/ml and 23.73 µg/ml for promastigotes and amastigotes, respectively. The results of MTT assays showed 48 % promastigote viability after 72 hour-exposure to Cinnarizine at 20 µg/ml concentration. Programmed cell death in promastigote- and amastigote-infected macrophages was quantified to be 13.66 % and 98.7 %, respectively. Flow- cytometry analysis indicated that Cinnarizine induced early and late apoptosis in parasites. All treatments produced results which differed significantly from control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Cinnarizine showed low toxicity with anti-leishmanial and apoptosis effects on both promastigote and intracellular amastigote forms. Therefore, we may suggest further assessment on animal models of this drug as candidates for cutaneous leishmaniasis therapy.

BACKGROUND: Few migraine preventive agents have been assessed in a pediatric population. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of cinnarizine and sodium valproate for migraine prophylaxis in children and adolescents. METHODS: We carried out a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial in the Children's Medical Center and Sina hospital, Tehran, Iran. Eligible participants were randomly assigned in 1:1:1 ratio via interactive web response system to receive either cinnarizine, sodium valproate, or placebo. The primary endpoints were the mean change in frequency and intensity of migraine attacks from baseline to the last 4 weeks of trial. The secondary endpoint was the efficacy of each drug in the prevention of migraine. The drug was considered effective if it decreased migraine frequency by more than 50% in the double-blind phase compared with the baseline. Safety endpoint was adverse effects that were reported by children or their parents. RESULTS: A total of 158 children participated. The frequency of migraine attacks significantly reduced compared to baseline in cinnarizine (difference: -8.0; 95% confidence interval (CI): -9.3 to -6.6), sodium valproate (difference: -8.3; 95% confidence interval: -9.3 to -7.2), and placebo (difference: -4.4; 95% confidence interval: -5.4 to -3.4) arms. The decrease was statistically greater in cinnarizine (difference: -3.6; 95% confidence interval: -5.5 to -1.6) and sodium valproate (difference: -3.9; 95% confidence interval: -5.8 to -1.9) arms, compared to placebo group. Children in all groups had significant reduction in intensity of episodes compared to baseline (cinnarizine: -4.6; 95% confidence interval: -5.2 to -4.0; sodium valproate: -4.0; 95% confidence interval: -4.8 to -3.3; placebo: -2.6; 95% confidence interval: -3.4 to -1.8). The decrease was statistically greater in cinnarizine (difference: -2.0; 95% confidence interval: -3.2 to -0.8) and sodium valproate (difference: -1.5; 95% confidence interval: -2.7 to -0.3) arms, compared to the placebo group. Seventy-one percent of individuals in the cinnarizine group, 66% of cases in the sodium valproate group, and 42% of people in the placebo arm reported more than 50% reduction in episodes at the end of the trial. The odds ratio for >50% responder rate was 3.5 (98.3% confidence interval: 1.3 to 9.3) for cinnarizine versus placebo and 2.7 (98.3% confidence interval: 1.0 to 6.9) for sodium valproate versus placebo. Nine individuals reported adverse effects (three in cinnarizine, five in sodium valproate, and one in the placebo group) and one case in the sodium valproate group discontinued the therapy due to severe sedation. CONCLUSION: Cinnarizine and sodium valproate could be useful in migraine prophylaxis in children and adolescents. Trial registration: IRCT201206306907N4.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Vertigo derived from peripheral vestibular disorders is quite frequently encountered in daily clinical practice and can be a severely disabling symptom associated with substantial impairment of health-related quality of life for the affected patients. Betahistine, a structural analogue of histamine and presumably the most widely prescribed anti-vertigo drug worldwide, has previously been shown to be an effective and safe treatment for these patients. The objective of the present study was to evaluate whether the fixed combination of cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate (Arlevert®) is non-inferior and thus a potentially useful alternative to betahistine dihydrochloride in the treatment of patients suffering from peripheral vestibular vertigo. METHODS: In this prospective, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, non-inferiority clinical trial, outpatients from 8 ENT clinics in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Russia were randomly assigned to receive three times daily one tablet of either the fixed combination cinnarizine 20 mg/dimenhydrinate 40 mg or betahistine dihydrochloride 16 mg for 4 weeks. Primary endpoint was the reduction of the mean vertigo score (MVS), a validated 12-item composite score defined as the mean of 6 vertigo symptoms (dystasia and walking unsteadiness, staggering, rotary sensation, tendency to fall, lift sensation, blackout) and 6 trigger factors for vertigo (change of position, bowing, getting up, driving by car/train, head movements, eye movement), after 4 weeks of therapy, as judged by the patient on a 5-point visual analogue scale (VAS). The non-inferiority margin was set to 0.3. Secondary outcomes included the patient's and investigator's judgment of global efficacy, the patient's rating of impairment of daily activities, and safety/tolerability of the treatments. RESULTS: Three hundred and six patients (mean age 53.5 years, approximately 60% female) were enrolled and randomized to the fixed combination cinnarizine/dimenhydrinate (n = 152) or betahistine (n = 154) groups; 297 patients completed the study and 294 (146 and 148, respectively) were valid for the per-protocol analysis, which was used for the non-inferiority analysis. Treatment with cinnarizine/dimenhydrinate led to a stronger reduction of the MVS [least squares mean (LSM)] after 4-week therapy (primary endpoint) in comparison to betahistine (0.395 vs 0.488; difference: - 0.093, 95% CI - 0.180; - 0.007, p = 0.035); since the upper limit of the two-sided 95% confidence interval was not only below the non-inferiority margin of 0.3, but also entirely below 0, superiority of the fixed combination could be demonstrated. The combination preparation was also more effective after 1 week of therapy and received more favorable patient's ratings on overall efficacy and impairment of daily activities. Both treatments were very well tolerated. Only 12 patients (3.92%) reported 13 non-serious adverse events; 2 cinnarizine/dimenhydrinate-treated patients discontinued the study prematurely due to adverse events as compared to 5 betahistine-treated patients. CONCLUSION: The fixed combination of cinnarizine 20 mg and dimenhydrinate 40 mg was found to be not only non-inferior, but superior to betahistine 16 mg in the improvement of peripheral vestibular vertigo. Furthermore, taking into account a good and slightly favorable safety profile, the present study provides evidence that the fixed-combination preparation is a potent and even superior alternative to betahistine in the treatment of vertigo related to peripheral vestibular disorders. PURPOSE: To compare the efficacy of cinnarizine/betahistine combination with the respective monotherapies in patients with acute peripheral vertigo (APV). METHOD: A randomized, triple-blind placebo-controlled phase III trial was performed on 162 patients with APV to compare the efficacy of cinnarizine/betahistine combination with the respective monotherapies. Patients were randomly allocated into three groups (n = 54 each) of Bet. (betahistine and placebo), Cin. (cinnarizine and placebo), and Bet. + Cin. (betahistine and cinnarizine). The first group received cinnarizine tablets (25 mg) plus placebo three times a day, the second group received betahistine tablets (8 mg) plus placebo three times a day, and the third group received betahistine (8 mg) plus cinnarizine (25 mg) combination three times a day. The treatments were continued for 1 week. Patients were followed up to 3 days and 1 week after initiation of the treatments for changes in vertigo severity measured by visual grading scale (VAS), mean vertigo score (MVS), and mean concomitant symptom score (MCSS). RESULTS: Results showed a significant difference between the groups in VAS (p = 0.001), MVS (p = 0.0001), and MCSS (p = 0.0001) at 1-week follow-up, where the respective values were significantly lower in the Cin. + Bet. group as compared with the respective monotherapies. Efficacy and tolerability of the treatment were found to be higher in the Cin. + Bet. group at 3-day and 1-week follow-up periods (p = 0.0001, for all comparisons). None of the patients reported any side effects during the study. CONCLUSION: This study indicated the superiority of the cinnarizine/betahistine combination over the respective monotherapies in the treatment of APV. TRIAL REGISTRATION: IRCT20130710013947N9.

INTRODUCTION: Sea sickness may greatly impact the readiness of Service personnel deployed aboard naval vessels. Medications used in the treatment of sea sickness may have adverse effects, limiting their use as flight crew. Although the prevalence of sea sickness in flight crews remains unclear, individual susceptibility and high sea states are established risk factors. Literature review can guide optimized management strategies for this population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The first author conducted a PubMed search using the terms "sea sickness" "flight crew" "scopolamine," "hyoscine," and "cinnarizine," identifying 15 articles of 350 matches, which addressed potential impact to flight performance. Analysis also included two historic reports about motion sickness maintained within the U.K. Army Aviation Centre's aeromedical archives in Middle Wallop, Hampshire. Both authors reviewed aeromedical policy for the International Civil Aviation Organization, U.K. Civil Aviation Authority, U.S. Federal Aviation Authority, the National Aeronautics Space Administration, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force. RESULTS: Scopolamine, also known as hyoscine, has fewer operationally relevant side effects than cinnarizine or first-generation antihistamines. Although no aeromedical authorities endorse the unsupervised use of scopolamine, many will consider authorizing its temporary use following an initial assessment on the ground. Evidence supports the concomitant use of stimulant medication for augmenting antinausea effects and countering the potential sedative effects of scopolamine. CONCLUSIONS: Scopolamine should be considered as a first-line medication for flight crews at risk of sea sickness but such use must be guided by the appropriate aeromedical authority, ideally in conjunction with a ground trial to evaluate individual response. The limited evidence to support concurrent use of stimulants must be weighed against the challenges of maintaining accountability of controlled substances in the operational environment.

OBJECTIVE: It has long been suggested that antivertiginous medications exert their symptomatic effect through inhibition of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). We tested this hypothesis by directly measuring the VOR after administration of three agents from different substance classes: an antihistamine, a benzodiazepine and a calcium channel antagonist. METHODS: The gain and the variability of the high velocity VOR was assessed using video head impulses (vHIT) under the following conditions: baseline, after dimenhydrinate, after diazepam and after cinnarizine. RESULTS: We found that all three medications did not change any VOR gain or variability parameter: At 60ms, the gain was 0.95 at baseline, 0.99 under dimenhydrinate, 0.99 under diazepam and 0.96 under cinnarizine. The gain variability across repetitive head impulses remained also uninfluenced. CONCLUSIONS: The human high frequency VOR remains robust to pharmacological perturbations at common clinical doses and the assumption that symptomatic vertigo relief is achieved merely through impairment of the VOR requires re-examination. SIGNIFICANCE: Alternative mechanisms of pharmacological action might be operant, such as the modulation of vestibulo-cortical pathways, a differential effect on the low frequency VOR and an altered sensitivity to drugs in acute unilateral vestibulopathy.

Vestibular rehabilitation using individualized vibrotactile neurofeedback training (IVNT) can lead to significant improvement in the postural stability of patients with vestibular symptoms of different origins. However, some of these patients have complex, severe dizziness, meaning that a pharmacological pretreatment or parallel (to vestibular rehabilitation) treatment can help them perform the rehabilitation exercises. Hence, the present study investigated the influence of a pharmacological treatment on the efficacy of vibrotactile neurofeedback training in patients with chronic, noncompensated vestibulopathies. All participants performed IVNT for ∼10 min each day for 2 weeks. In addition, every second participant was selected randomly to receive oral medication (20 mg cinnarizine and 40 mg dimenhydrinate per tablet), taking three tables per day. Trunk and ankle sway and postural stability were measured. In addition, the dizziness handicap inventory was evaluated immediately before training on the last day of training and 6 months after training. After the 10-day period of IVNT, both groups showed a statistically significant improvement in all parameters tested. A follow-up analysis after 6 months showed a long-term efficacy for the IVNT, that is, the patients remained significantly improved in their postural stability. The antivertiginous therapy did not hinder the efficacy of the IVNT. The present results indicate that IVNT even in combination with an antivertiginous drug therapy is an effective treatment regime for patients with disabling vertigo of different origins.

BACKGROUND: When patients suddenly become restless and are unable to sit or stand still, especially in general medical settings, anxiety is often the topmost differential on every clinician's mind. However, the possibility of the very subjectively distressing condition called 'akathisia' should always be considered. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article is to discuss a clinical approach to the management of akathisia, drawing on the presentation of a patient who was admitted to a general medical ward. DISCUSSION: Akathisia, a subjective and very distressing feeling of restlessness, has been found to be caused by a wide range of medications used in general medical settings, such as azithromycin, antiemetics and antipsychotics. Despite its high incidence and association with an increase in suicidal thoughts, it often goes unrecognised. This paper highlights the need for its early recognition, provides a diagnostic guide and an approach to its management.

Melanoma of the uveal tract accounts for approximately 5% of all melanomas and represents the most common primary intraocular malignancy. Despite improvements in diagnosis and more effective local therapies for primary cancer, the rate of metastatic death has not changed in the past forty years. In the present study, we made use of bioinformatics to analyze the data obtained from three public available microarray datasets on uveal melanoma in an attempt to identify novel putative chemotherapeutic options for the liver metastatic disease. We have first carried out a meta-analysis of publicly available whole-genome datasets, that included data from 132 patients, comparing metastatic vs. non metastatic uveal melanomas, in order to identify the most relevant genes characterizing the spreading of tumor to the liver. Subsequently, the L1000CDS2 web-based utility was used to predict small molecules and drugs targeting the metastatic uveal melanoma gene signature. The most promising drugs were found to be Cinnarizine, an anti-histaminic drug used for motion sickness, Digitoxigenin, a precursor of cardiac glycosides, and Clofazimine, a fat-soluble iminophenazine used in leprosy. In vitro and in vivo validation studies will be needed to confirm the efficacy of these molecules for the prevention and treatment of metastatic uveal melanoma.

The efficacy and safety of the fixed combination of cinnarizine 20 mg and dimenhydrinate 40 mg in the treatment of vertigo of various origins have been investigated in a prospective, noninterventional study involving private practices throughout Germany. A total of 1275 patients with an average age of 61.2 years participated in the study. The vertigo symptoms, measured by a validated mean vertigo score (primary efficacy endpoint) improved by 61 % in the course of the observational period (median: 6 weeks). Concomitant symptoms frequently associated with vertigo such as nausea, vomiting and tinnitus were also markedly reduced by 84, 85 and 51 %, respectively. Overall efficacy has been rated by the physicians as 'very much improved' or 'much improved' in 95 % of the patients. A total of 47 patients (3.7 %) reported 51 adverse drug reactions (all nonserious). The results indicate a good tolerability and efficacy of the fixed combination of cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate in the treatment of vertigo in daily medical practice, which is in line with previous findings of numerous interventional, randomised, double-blind, controlled clinical trials.

Motion sickness can be a limiting factor for sea and air missions. We report the experience of a Pararescue (PJ) team on a Pacific Ocean rescue mission in which motion sickness was prevalent. Cinnarizine, an antagonist of H1-histamine receptors, was used to treat affected PJs. We also report findings of a survey of PJs regarding motion sickness. A family of four on a disabled sailboat 900 miles off the coast of Mexico sent out a distress call because their 1-year-old daughter became severely ill with fever and diarrhea. Four PJs were deployed on a C-130, performed a free-fall parachute insertion into the ocean, and boarded the sailboat. All four PJs experienced onset of motion sickness at some point during the early part of the mission and symptoms persisted through the first 24 hours. Three PJs experienced ongoing nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and sensory imbalances. The captain of the sailboat offered the three sick PJs approximately 18mg of cinnarizine two or three times a day with relief of symptoms and improvement on operational effectiveness. A new, anonymous, voluntary survey of Air National Guard PJs and combat rescue officers revealed that 78.4% of Operators have experienced motion sickness at sea. We discuss the current theories on motion sickness, the effect of motion sickness on operational effectiveness, and research on treatment of motion sickness, including the medication cinnarizine.

Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the most frequent causes of episodic vertigo, with a lifetime prevalence of 0.98%. Prophylactic therapy includes calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, antiepileptic drugs and antidepressants. We studied the association of cinnarizine 20 mg and dimenhydrinate 40 mg (Arlevertan) in a group of 22 patients affected by definite VM. Proposed therapy included one tablet twice a day for 1 month, which was repeated three times with 1 month of interval between drug intake; results were compared with those of a control group of 11 VM patients who asked to observe only lifestyle measures for migraine. The main outcome was the number of vertigo and headache crises in the 6 months before therapy and in the 6 months of follow-up. Subjects performing Arlevertan presented during the 6 months of therapy a decrease of vertigo attacks from 5.3 to 2.1 and of headaches from 4.3 to 1.7 (p < 0.0001); 68% of these subjects reported a decrease of at least 50% of vertigo attacks, while 63% of headaches. Conversely, vertigo attacks decreased from 3.5 to 2.2 and headaches from 2.6 to 2 in patients observing only lifestyle; 18% of these subjects reported a decrease of at least 50% of vertigo crises and 27% of headaches. Our data do not differ from those of previous works assessing efficacy of different prophylactic therapies for VM and reporting consistent reduction of vertigo spells in a rate of patients ranging from 60 and 80%.
