RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: In the recent research and interpretation of the genetical-biological and environmental-social factors shaping psychosexual development, in addition to scientific arguments, more and more ideological and political aspect have received unfortunate emphasis. OBJECTIVE: Since the literature investigating the development of gender identity and gender orientation has not only increased, but also polarized, it is timely to look at the scientific exchange of ideas and debates among the differing positions. METHOD: Exploring the significance of genetic, biological and social factors involved in the development of gender identity and gender orientation based on international literature data. RESULTS: Based on the current state of science it can be concluded that, in addition to the indisputably marked genetic-biological factors, education and social patterns, as well as the extremely complex environmental and media-related influence with its variable intensity and diverse emotional content also play a significant role in the psychosexual development. This is supported, among other observations, by the data indicating that homoerotic behavior is more common in people raised by same-sex couples. CONCLUSION: As psychosexual development is determined jointly by both genetic-biological and social factors (like education, media etc), belonging to a sexual minority group is not a choice, not the result of a personal decision. Therefore, any kind of discrimination in this regard is unacceptable. Further scientific studies are necessary to answer a large number of questions that still remain open.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Childhood cancer and its treatment can impair survivors' development throughout life, particularly psychosexual development, which can be affected in complex ways and is crucial for survivors' well-being. Yet, research is scarce. AIM: This study assessed psychosexual development (milestone attainment, age at attainment, perceived timing) in young adult survivors of childhood cancer. It further examined sexual satisfaction and sexual functioning, and whether survivors' perceived timing of sexual debut was related to satisfaction or functioning. METHODS: A registry-based nationwide survey was completed by N = 492 German survivors of childhood cancer (age 21-26 years, 6-26 years postdiagnosis). They completed standardized measures of psychosexual milestones (eg, first kiss, sexual debut), sexual satisfaction, and sexual functioning. Psychosexual development was compared to normative data (N = 1,533). OUTCOMES: Psychosexual development, sexual satisfaction, and sexual functioning were the primary outcome measures. Psychosexual development was characterized in three ways: milestone attainment (yes/no), age at attainment, perceived timing ("right" time, too early/late). RESULTS: Milestone attainment was comparable to normative data, except for sexual debut: Survivors were less often experienced (82.5% vs 88%; P = .002) and older at sexual debut (17.4 vs 16.2 years; g = 0.55), but most survivors (58.3%) perceived their timing as "right." Survivors of brain tumors were least likely to have had their sexual debut, but if experienced age at sexual debut was similar to other survivors. Female survivors were somewhat more experienced than males (eg, first kiss, first relationship; <10% difference), but they were somewhat older when they first kissed (g = 0.26). Age at diagnosis was unrelated to milestone attainment. Perceived early/late sexual debut was related to lower satisfaction in female survivors (P = .026), but unrelated to sexual dysfunction. Instead, partnered men reported particularly low dysfunction whereas women reported similar levels of sexual dysfunction irrespective of their relationship status (P = .049). Overall, sexual functioning was favorable (60.2%: not/barely problematic). CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Most survivors reported favorable sexual satisfaction and functioning, but a minority of survivors may need supportive services. STRENGTHS & LIMITATIONS: This project represents one of few large-scale studies on psychosexual development in childhood cancer survivors relative to normative data, and is the first to link development to sexual satisfaction/functioning. Assessing satisfaction/functioning with validated, but brief measures limits detailed insights, but was inclusive of any sexual orientation. Medical background information based on registry data was limited. CONCLUSION: Results showed normative psychosexual development (except for sexual debut) in most survivors. A self-determined attitude toward sexuality (ie, engaging in sexual activities at the "right" time) may generally determine positive sexual experiences. Lehmann V, Gerhardt CA, Baust K, et al. RESUMEN

Our text makes as its central idea the Winnicott's approach, emphasizing the importance of a good crossing of the stage of concern - a stage that, in our view, is essential to constitute the pillars of a relatively healthy psyche, capable of coping with ailments arising from the oedipal conflict. Therefore, we will begin our work with a brief description of the stage of concern, followed by questions relating to the characteristic ambivalence of Oedipus himself. Finally, we make some considerations that aim to connect with an analysis of the Piggle case (The Piggle), a two and a half year old girl, whose treatment, carried out by D.W. Winnicott, occurred during sixteen meetings, constituting a kind of analysis according to demand, dealing with, above all, issues related to the intensity of ambivalent feelings not elaborated by the patient, which anticipated her entry into the Oedipus complex before she went, fundamentally, through the stage of concern.

Issues related to gender identity have gained wide attention in recent decades. Since the first classical descriptions of autism, there has been interest in the study of the identity process in this population. In this context, the understanding of the psychosexual development of boys, girls and adolescents (NNA) with autism spectrum condition (ASC) has gained relevance given the suggestive evidence of a relationship between ASC and gender diversity (including gender dysphoria (GD) This document aims to carry out a review of the subject from a developmental perspective.

Debate in psychoanalysis of resistance resulting from the formation of psychic defenses during psychosexual development. These defenses have as their purpose the recovery of the object that where lost during the traumatic event which is a milestone for the proposal of the concept of “basic fault” by Balint. Our interest in the subject arises because we observe at present increasingly demand for analysis of patients with deep anguish related to helplessness and important family conflicts, disbelief in the work institution and in achieving satisfactory marital life. We work from the perspective of formulating hypotheses, based on clinicai experience and theoretical field of psychoanalysis stricto sensu and psychoanalysis of bonds, that could contribute to the clinical review of the bonds. The analysis involves the Subject and the primary objects as well as their substitutes although only the Subject is in psychoanalysis.

INTRODUCTION: Health care demand by transsexual people has recently increased, mostly at the expense of young and adolescents. The number of people who report a loss of or change in the former identity feeling (identity desistance) has also increased. While these are still a minority, we face more and more cases of transsexual people who ask for detransition and reversal of the changes achieved due to regret. OBJECTIVE: To report our experience with a group of transsexual people in detransition phase, and to analyze their personal experience and their associated conflicts. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cohort of 796 people with gender incongruence attending the Identity Gender Unit of Doctor Peset University Hospital from January 2008 to December 2018 was studied. Four of the eight documented cases of detransition and/or regret are reported as the most representative. RESULTS: Causes of detransition included identity desistance, non-binary gender variants, associated psicomorbidities, and confusion between sexual identity and sexual orientation. CONCLUSION: Detransition is a growing phenomenon that implies clinical, psychological, and social issues. Inadequate evaluation and use of medicalization as the only means to improve gender dysphoria may lead to later detransition in some teenagers. Comprehensive care by a multidisciplinary and experienced team is essential. As there are no studies reporting the factors predictive of detransition, caution is recommended in cases of atypical identity courses

This article reports some results of the research conducted during the care of two patients in the Temporary Emergency Psychotherapy Care Project, offered by a private university. It initially deals with the increase in pathological psychic manifestationsresulting from the "subjective urgency" produced by the Covid-19 pandemic as a threat to the maintenance of life. It highlights the main points of freudian work concerning the importance of anal organization of libido and feces as a partial object of drive satisfaction. The castration complex is responsible for allowing objects to acquire phallic significance capable of equating feces to money. Money is one of the objects to convey the fixations arising from the anal phase of organization of libido. It states that the relationship of each subject with money can present itself in transfer as a requirement of autoerotic drive satisfaction. The repetition of this requirement indicates the place of the subject and the Other in unconscious fantasy. Thus, gratuity can become a vehicle of jouissance if the existence of another type of gain is not symbolized: for the patient, knowledge about his mode of enjoyment; for the analyst in training, an opportunity to learn something he did not know; for the supervisor, an investigation to contribute to his research

Sexuality is a central aspect of young's lives. It is a task of public health to understand how they are constructed with all their diversity, and to give satisfactory answers in the field of sexual health. The characteristics of qualitative research (flexible, open and reflective) provide the opportunity to design studies that are accepted and adapted to the realities of young people, especially in a sensitive field. The aim of this note is to provide clues for the recruitment of young people. In our case, the knowledge of key informants regarding the study population and the research context was essential, both to choose an approach and recruitment strategy and to adapt the data collection techniques. Finally, we used individual interviews and triangular groups opportunistically in waiting rooms of sexual health care services specialized in young people, where there was already a predisposition to talk about sexuality

This theoretical essay discusses the instinct of self-preservation status under Freud's theory, aiming to analyze the organismic and functionalist references as an epistemological foundation of psychoanalysis. The instincts theory undergoes substantial changes during Freud's work, and it was subject to various interpretations that usually relegate to the background or even exclude the instincts of self-preservation of the psychoanalysis field. It presents the foundations of this theorization in the classic Freudian texts on the first drive theory and the complexity of its characterization, especially the questions of its source and its affiliation to biological functions, the lability of its object, its role in the defensive dynamics and in psychosexual development. It discusses the interpretations of this legacy from its double affiliation: humanist and naturalistic. It is concluded that this problem is an important point of tension in the characterization of the epistemological heterogeneity of psychoanalysis as a field of knowledge (AU)

Background: In the school environment, sex education is included in health education, and it is essential to address it clearly in the various age groups. With a view to healthy sexuality, adolescents should acquire knowledge in this area. Objectives: To identify the interlocutor of adolescents, attending the 6th grade, to talk about sexuality and affections. To evaluate the effect of formative intervention on adolescents' level of knowledge on the subject. Methods: Longitudinal study in a short panel, conducted in an accidental nonprobabilistic sample, for convenience, consisting of 110 adolescents attending the 6th grade. A self-completed questionnaire with sociodemographic characterization of students / parents, a person with whom they talk about sexuality and affections and a scale of knowledge was used. Results: Participants are between 10 and 14 years old with an average of 11.53 (+/- 0.591SD). The adolescents are mostly male (60.1%), living in urban areas (82.5%) with their father and mother (82.2%). They revealed adequate knowledge on the theme of sexuality and affection (44.7%); they highlighted teachers as interlocutors to talk about sex (54.5%) and parents to talk about affect (60.0%). In the present study, it is the younger adolescents and those living in urban areas who have the best levels of knowledge about sexuality and affection. Conclusion: Adolescents improved their level of knowledge after the formative intervention on "Sexuality & Affections", a fact that reinforces the importance of this type of health education sessions in the school context

RESUMEN

Researchers have examined a number of typologies of juvenile sex offenders, including victim age. Using data from psychological evaluations and the Multiphasic Sex Inventory-II (MSI-II; [Psychological assessment of sex offenders, 2010]), this study compared child offenders (i.e., victims were more than 4 years younger), peer offenders (i.e., victims were 4 years younger or less), and mixed offenders (i.e., both child and peer victims) on variables including victim, offender, and offense characteristics, and psychosexual development. Peer offenders had more severe sexual offenses, prior status/nonviolent charges, and issues with sexual functioning. Mixed offenders began offending at a younger age and were indiscriminate in gender and relationship of the victim. Mixed offenders were also more likely than child and peer offenders to have prior sex offender treatment, meaning they had previously failed treatment. As juvenile sex offenders are a heterogeneous group, these research findings suggest that child offenders, peer offenders, and mixed offenders' treatment needs differ from each other.

There is a leading role and a high demand for requests for psychological expertise in cases of sexual abuse. The admissibility of expert evidence requires scientific rigor of the technique. Projective graphic tests have historically been questioned for use in the forensic field. However, they provide valuable information about the subject, suitable for children and adolescents, it don't revictimize. The graphical projective technique Person in the Rain was updated in Argentina based on the concepts and instruments of the David Liberman Algorithm technique, consolidating a reliability to study subjective resources in a situation of vulnerability. There is usefulness in the psychological expertise of abuse to identify degrees of self-maturation, detect the presence of trauma or normal psychosexual development, helping to estimate possible psychological damage(AU)

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Sexual harassment is a widespread problem with serious consequences for individuals and societies. It is likely that sexual harassment among peers has its main onset during the transition from late childhood to early adolescence, when young people enter puberty. However, there is a lack of systematic research on sexual harassment during this developmental period. Thus, there is very little information about the prevalence of sexual harassment during this important transition, its consequences, and how to effectively intervene against and prevent the problem. The primary objective of the described project, entitled Peer Relations In School from an Ecological perspective (PRISE), is to examine sexual harassment and its developmental correlates during the transition from late childhood to early adolescence. METHODS: The PRISE study has a longitudinal design over 3 years, in which a cohort of children (N = 1000) and their main teachers (N = 40) fill out questionnaires in grades 4, 5, and 6. The questionnaires assess aspects of peer sexual harassment and potential correlates including biological (e.g., pubertal development), psychosocial (e.g., self-assertiveness, self-image, peer relations), and contextual (e.g., classroom climate, norms) factors. In addition, we will examine school readiness and policies in relation to sexual harassment and collect register data to assess the number of reports of sexual harassment from the participating schools. DISCUSSION: The PRISE study will enable the researchers to answer fundamental, unresolved questions about the development of sexual harassment and thus advance the very limited understanding of sexual harassment during the transition from childhood to adolescence - a central period for physical, sexual, and social development. Due to the sensitive nature of the main research concepts, and the age of the participants, the ethical aspects of the research need particular attention. Ultimately, the hope is that the PRISE study will help researchers, policy makers, and practitioners develop, and implement, knowledge that may help in combating a major, current societal challenge and adverse aspect of young people's developmental ecologies.

RESUMEN

AIM: This review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the psychosocial developmental trajectory of various diseases during childhood and adolescence. METHODS: Studies of Dutch young adults aged 18-35 years, who had grown up with a chronic disease, were included if the Course of Life Questionnaire had been used to assess psychosocial developmental milestones in three domains: social, autonomy and psychosexual. Differences between the disease groups and the general population were presented as Cohen's d and odds ratios. RESULTS: We included 17 studies comprising 1899 young adults, who had grown up with 18 different paediatric diseases. Psychosocial development was delayed in all three questionnaire domains. Remarkable findings with regard to specific milestones were as follows: less participation in sports clubs in the social domain, less likely to have had paid jobs in the autonomy domain and later sexual intimacy in the psychosexual domain. End-stage renal disease, galactosaemia (males), childhood cancer and orthotopic liver transplants were the most affected disease groups. CONCLUSION: Children and adolescents with chronic diseases risked delays in psychosocial development. This should be addressed by healthcare providers, along with the physical aspects of diseases, and they should focus on the optimal psychosocial development of the patient.

RESUMEN

This article is an attempt at a psychoanalytic understanding of Diogenes syndrome, or hoarding disorder syndrome, by way of a clinical case. This syndrome is characterized by a failure to attend to proper housing habits, including the hoarding of rubbish that may, in fact, create unsuitable, even dangerous, living conditions. The clinical case used suggests that Diogenes syndrome or hoarding disorder reflects or indicates an extreme form of obsessive neurosis involving libidinal regressions to anal fixations designed, paradoxically, to satisfy both a passion for dirty and for order. However, this pathological hoarding may also function to protect the subject against fears associated with meeting people, thereby avoiding any possible intimacy and promoting self-exclusion in an anti-object aim. Finally, the case under discussion helps us to understand the particular psychological aspects or relevance that the actual items and rubbish accumulated have in this syndrome.

RESUMEN

For various reasons, sexuality of individuals with differences/disorders of sex development (DSD) may be affected. The aim of the study was to describe sexual activity, satisfaction with sex life, satisfaction with genital function, and sexual problems in people with different DSD conditions. Data were collected from 1,040 participants in Europe. Many people with a variety of DSD conditions do not appear to be satisfied with their sex life, experience a variety of sexual problems, and are less sexually active than the general population; therefore sexuality should be explicitly addressed in the care of people with DSD.
