RESUMEN

The bryocorine genus Caulotops Bergroth (Miridae: Eccritotarsini), originally described to accommodate its only species C. puncticollis Bergroth, is shown not to be congeneric with all other species now included in the genus from North, Central, and northern South America. Consequently, four new genera are established for the following 20 species, including five new combinations and 14 species described as new: Agaveocoris n. gen. for Caulotops agavis Reuter (as the type species), n. comb.; C. barberi Knight, n. comb.; and C. distanti Reuter, n. comb. and the new species A. bimaculatus, n. sp.; A. barrerai, n. sp.; A. dimidiatus, n. sp.; A. marginalis, n. sp.; A. roseus, n. sp.; A. rostratus, n. sp.; A. schaffneri, n. sp.; and A. scutellatus, n. sp; Laterospinocoris, n. gen. for Caulotops cyaneipennis Reuter, new comb. (as the type species) and the new species L. mexicanus, n. sp.; Nigrotomocoris n. gen. for Caulotops nigrus Carvalho (as the type species), n. comb.; C. tibiopallidus Carvalho, n. comb.; and the new species N. keltoni, n. sp. and N. longirostris, n. sp.; and Schaffnerocoris, n. gen., for S. fuscotibialis, n. sp. (as the type species), S. pallipes, n. sp., and S. similis, n. sp. Lectotypes are designated for Caulotops agavis Reuter, Caulotops cyaneipennis Reuter, and Caulotops puncticollis Bergroth, and a neotype is designated for Eccritotarsus platensis Berg. Each genus and species is diagnosed and described; habitus images, illustration of male genitalia and selected female genitalia, and keys to genera and species are provided; and host use and the unique genitalic systems of these taxa are discussed. A phylogenetic analysis, based on 22 taxa and 39 characters, resulted in three trees supporting the monophyly of the four new genera proposed in this study.

RESUMEN

Three species of geckos in the genus Goniurosaurus have been recorded from Hainan Island in China. We describe a new species, Goniurosaurus kwanghua sp. nov. Zhu He, bringing the number of this genus in Hainan Island to four. We conducted phylogenetic analyses with two mitochondrial genes (16S Cytb) and two nuclear genes (RAG1 C-MOS) to validate this new species. The new species is similar to G. hainanensis, but differs in the following characters: (1) middle section of the nuchal loop wide and posteriorly protracted, (2) wider body bands with dark markings, (3) yellow stripes on posterior side of humerus and femur, linked to the first and third body bands, respectively. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

RESUMEN

Pherbellia jalili Mortelmans Kazerani sp. nov. is described based on 5 males and 4 females. The new species is associated with old deciduous forest and is found only in the Hyrcanean forest in Iran. It is compared with its sister species, P. annulipes (Zetterstedt, 1846), and a comprehensive distribution map for both species is given. The key to species of this group of Pherbellia is updated including the Japanese Pherbellia tricolor Sueyoshi, 2001. Barcodes are generated for P. jalili sp. nov., P. annulipes, and P. nana nana (Fallén, 1820).

RESUMEN

The larvae, male and female imagines, and eggs of Cinygmula levanidovi Tshernova Belov 1982 are described based on reared specimens from the Russian Far East. The larvae, female imago and eggs are described and illustrated for the first time. The larva of C. levanidovi is similar to the one of C. hirasana Imanishi, 1935 and C. kurenzovi (Bajkova, 1965). However, it can be distinguished from these species and from all other Far Eastern Cinygmula by the shape of its tergalius I, which has a heart-shape and bears a single short gill filament. Tergalius I of C. hirasana and C. kurenzovi possess a similar shape, but there are no gill filaments on the first and the other tergalii.

RESUMEN

Five species of Noeetomima Enderlein, 1937 from Southwest China are described as new to science: Noeetomima hongshanensis sp. nov., N. lijiangensis sp. nov., N. liui sp. nov., N. trisurstyla sp. nov. and N. zhangae sp. nov.. A key to world species of the genus Noeetomima is presented. The specimens studied are deposited in the Entomological Museum of China Agricultural University, Beijing, China (CAUC).

RESUMEN

A taxonomic review of the genus Hechinoschema is presented. A new genus, Propedicellus gen. nov., is described, and two new species Propedicellus guoliangi sp. nov. and Propedicellus qiului sp. nov. are described from China. A new combination Propedicellus vitalisi (Pic, 1925) comb. nov. is proposed. A key to species of Propedicellus is presented.

RESUMEN

Two new species of Brasineura are described from Brazil based on male specimens: Brasineura calori sp. n. (Bahia: Brazil) and Brasineura morrense sp. n. (Bahia: Brazil). They differ from the other species in the genus, in which the males are known, by hypandrium and phallosome structures. New records and comments on variation in the fore- and hind- wing venation of B. troglophilica Silva-Neto García Aldrete and B. diamantina Silva-Neto García Aldrete are presented. The identification key to male Brasineura species is updated.

RESUMEN

A new rove beetle species, Edrabius uruguayensis Martínez-Villar, González-Vainer Tomasco, sp. nov., associated with the subterranean rodent Ctenomys rionegrensis in Uruguay, is described and illustrated. Photographs, scanning electron micrographs and drawings of the diagnostic character states are provided. The new species is compared with other species of the genus. Nucleotide sequence of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I was reported for the first time for the genus and phylogenetic reconstruction confirms their close relationship with the other genus used from the tribe Amblyopinini (Heterothops).

RESUMEN

The alpheid genus Salmoneus Holthuis, 1955 is reported from Kuwait for the first time, with two species. One species, Salmoneus ikaros sp. nov., is described based on a single specimen from Failaka Island, extracted from the burrow of the callianassid ghost-shrimp Balsscallichirus masoomi (Tirmizi, 1970), together with the host. The new species is characterised by its peculiar eyes, which together with other characters separate it from all previously described species of Salmoneus. The second species, Salmoneus gracilipes Miya, 1972, is reported from Kuwait based on three specimens from two different localities and different habitats. Two specimens were found under coral rocks at a depth of about 7 m off Kubbar Island, whereas the third specimen was extracted from the burrow of the echiuran worm, Listriolobus cf. brevirostris Chen Yeh, 1958, at the type locality of S. ikaros sp. nov. at Failaka Island. Material identified as S. gracilipes from across its wide distribution range appears to be morphologically heterogeneous, possibly containing more than one species, and thus will need further studies.

Members of the dwarf geckos of the genus Microgecko Nikolsky, 1907 are distributed from western Iran to northwestern India, with seven currently recognized species. Three taxa have been reported from Pakistan, M. depressus, M. persicus persicus and M. p. euphorbiacola. The former is the only endemic species restricted to Pakistan. Herein, we describe a new species, Microgecko tanishpaensis sp. nov., on the basis of four specimens collected from the remote area of the Toba Kakar Range in northwestern Balochistan. The type locality lies in an isolated valley in mountainous terrain known for the occurrence of other endemic reptile species, including geckos. Microgecko tanishpaensis sp. nov. is differentiated from the morphologically similar species M. depressus by possessing larger size, five scales bordering the nostril, internasals (supranasals) scales in contact with nostril, two large pairs of postmentals, higher numbers of interorbitals (27-30), scales around midbody (76-84), ventral scales from the postmental to vent (144-156) and scales along dorsal midline from axilla to groin (75-86). A morphological comparison of M. tanishpaensis sp. nov. with other species of the genus and an updated identification key for the genus Microgecko are presented.

RESUMEN

Acropsis Grant, 1958 is a monotypic genus with records only for Peru (type locality). Acropsis is being redescribed, including the Acropsis tectiformis species and two new species: Acropsis solimoesensis sp. nov. and Acropsis julianae sp. nov. The male internal genitalia and the stridulatory file morphology for the genus is being described for the first time. Furthermore, the genus is registered for the first time for Colombia (Caquetá) and Brazil (Acre and Amazonas) and additionally notes on the habitat are made.

Three new species of Stenichnodes Franz are described, all placed in the nominotypical subgenus, and occurring in Ivory Coast: S. cordicollis sp. n., S. spinosus sp. n., and S. bouakensis sp. n. Stenichnodes (s. str.) error Jaloszynski is recorded from a second locality in Kenya, and S. (Parastenichnaphes) ceylonensis (Franz), previously known to occur in Sri Lanka, is recorded from Tamil Nadu, India. Two of the newly described species are unusual in having the aedeagi with parameres; diagnostic value of this character, and the presence or absence of metaventral carinae, are discussed.

RESUMEN

The generic classification of the Palaearctic tribe Leptoiulini is revised, with 11 genera being recognized. The main differences between the genera, all presented in a tabular form, lie in the structure of the 2nd and 7th leg-pairs of the male, coupled with gonopodal conformations: the presence/absence and the degree of development of flagella on the promeres, and of the phylacum and velum on the opisthomeres. Based on abundant new material, only three genera and seven species of Leptoiulini, all keyed, mapped and properly illustrated, are shown to occur in the Caucasus: Chatoleptophyllum flexum Golovatch, 1979, Kubaniulus gracilis Lohmander, 1936, K. lativelatus sp. nov., Leptoiulus hastatus Lohmander, 1932 (= L. disparatus Lohmander, 1936, syn. n.), L. tanymorphus (Attems, 1901), L. meskhii sp. nov., and L. gonopodialis sp. nov. All species are endemic or subendemic to the region, while Kubaniulus Lohmander, 1936 represents the only genus in the tribe which is restricted to the Caucasus, in particular, the western and central parts of the Caucasus Major. The distributions are mainly allopatric, but a few pairs of species are para- or even sympatric.

RESUMEN

The phylogenetic tree of Chinese Nemobiinae species was reconstructed based on one mitochondrial COI fragment and two nuclear ribosomal loci (18S and 28S). According to both of concatenated and coalescent trees, Dianemobius, Polionemobius and Pteronemobius (except P. jianfenglingensis Liu Shi) were shown to be monophyletic with highly nodal supports. As to P. jianfenglingensis, it should be moved into a newly established genus, Giganemobius Shen He gen. nov. In addition, a new mute species named as Qionemobius hsterus Shen He gen. nov. sp. nov. was reported. It differs from other genera by having six apical spurs on hind tibia, but lacking forewings. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

The subgenus Oculogaster Kluge 2016 is divided into two species groups: the «African group¼ includes Procloeon (Oculogaster) cylindroculum Kimmins 1956, P. (O.) barnardi sp. n., P. (O.) niger sp. n., unnamed species P. (O.) sp. «Wolfkloof¼ and presumably P. (O.) silvicola Gillies 1997; the «Asian group¼ includes P. (O.) album Kluge 2016, P. (O.) regularum Müller-Liebenau Hubbard 1985, P. (O.) malabarensis sp. n., presumably Procloeon julia (Gillies 1949) comb. n. and unnamed species P. sp. «Thailand-3¼, P. sp. «Sulawesi¼ and P. sp. «Philippines¼. New South African species P. (O.) barnardi sp. n. and P. (O.) niger sp. n. are described from South Africa based on larvae, subimagines and imagines of both sexes associated by rearing; among them, P. (O.) barnardi sp. n. was formerly described by Barnard (1932) under the name «Austrocloeon africanum¼, being wrongly regarded to be the species originally described as Cloeon africanum Esben-Petersen 1913. Characters of larva and female subimago of another South African species, P. (O.) sp. «Wolfkloof¼ are described based on a single specimen. Two closely related species, P. (O.) regularum Müller-Liebenau Hubbard 1985 from Sri Lanka and P. (O.) malabarensis sp. n. from India are described based on larvae, subimagines and imagines of both sexes associated by rearing; these two species have 2 (rarely 1 or 3) cross veins in pterostigma, in contrast to other species of Oculogaster which normally have one vein (rarely two veins). Procloeon julia is presumptively placed in Oculogaster based on the presence of one vein in pterostigma. Unnamed species P. sp. «Thailand-3¼, P. sp. «Sulawesi¼ and P. sp. «Philippines¼ are presumably placed in Oculogaster; each is briefly described based on a single larva.

RESUMEN

A new laomediid genus, Strianassa gen. nov., is established to accommodate a new eastern Pacific species of mud-shrimp, Strianassa lerayi sp. nov. The holotype and single specimen of the new species was collected on a shallow subtidal flat at Isla Afuerita, Canales de Afuera, Coiba Archipelago, Panama. Strianassa gen. nov. appears to be most closely related to Axianassa Schmitt, 1924 and Heteroaxianassa Sakai, 2016, differing from both of them by the dorsal surface of the rostrum armed with teeth; the third maxilliped with an exopod and a set of setobranchs; and the epipodal complex of the fourth pereiopod including a small podobranch. In addition, Axianassa ngochoae Anker, 2010 and Heteroaxianassa heardi (Anker, 2011) are recorded for the first time from New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea, respectively, representing minor extensions of their previously known distributional ranges. The validity of Heteroaxianassa is discussed.

RESUMEN

Some species of the subgenus Tachycines (Gymnaeta) are cavernicolous. In this paper, three new species of this subgenus, namely Tachycines (Gymnaeta) zaoshu sp. nov., Tachycines (Gymnaeta) shuangcha sp. nov., and Tachycines (Gymnaeta) tongrenus sp. nov., from karst caves in Guizhou Province, China are described. The results of this study expand our knowledge of the geographical distribution of the cave species of the subgenus Tachycines (Gymnaeta) in China. The morphological photographs of the three new cave species are provided.

Imagines and pupae of new species Polypedilum (Pentapedilum) retusum are described from India. Three species, P. (Polypedilum) tamanigrum Sasa, 1983, P. (Pentapedilum) anale (Freeman, 1954), and P. (Tripodura) conghuaense Zhang, Song, Qi and Wang, 2016 with pupa are recorded firstly in the subcontinent. Hypopygia of P. (P.) ascium Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981, P. (T.) conghuaense, P. (T.) lineatum Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981 and P. (P.) nudiceps Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981 are redescribed. Polypedilum (P.) exterflexum Hazra, Sanyal and Brahma, 2015, P. clavipennae Hazra, Sanyal and Brahma, 2015 and P. aduncum Konar and Hazra, 2017 are proposed here to transfer to the genus Stictochironomus Kieffer, 1919. Polypedilum (P.) insolitum Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981 is here stated as junior synonym of Zavreliella marmorata (Wulp, 1859). In addition, some biogeographic and taxonomic remarks including DNA barcoding for selected species are given. Cladistic analysis of the Oriental species of Polypedilum Kieffer is made to hypothesise their possible relationship. A new dichotomous key of the Oriental species of Polypedilum is presented here.

In order to fix the identity of the European monospecific genus of heleomyzid flies Tephrochlaena Czerny, 1924 (Figs. 1, 2), the type specimens of Helomyza halterata Meigen, 1830, and Tephrochlaena oraria Collin, 1943, were re-examined. Tephrochlaena oraria is redescribed, the lectotype is designated to clarify the application of the name to the taxon and the type species of Tephrochlaena Czerny, 1924 is fixed as Tephrochlaena oraria Collin, 1943 (= Helomyza halterata sensu Czerny, 1924, nec Meigen, 1830), under ICZN Article 70.3.2. External characters and male and female terminalia are illustrated. A key to the Palaearctic genera of the subfamily Heteromyzinae is provided. By First Reviser action, Tephrochlamys rufiventris (Meigen, 1830) is given precedence over Helomyza halterata Meigen, 1830 syn. nov. under ICZN Article 24.2.1. A lectotype is also designated for Helomyza rufiventris Meigen, 1830 under ICZN Recommendation 73F.
