RESUMEN

This study uses YouTube content to explore trends in nursing start-ups. YouTube content can be used to understand the current trends regarding interest and awareness in various fields. The study was conducted in three stages: text mining, Delphi survey, and comparison. The frequency and degree centrality of keywords were analyzed in the text mining stage. In the Delphi survey, the 100 most frequent keywords were classified using a synthesis framework for nursing start-ups. In the comparison stage, the results of text mining and the Delphi survey were matched using a 2x2 matrix. Text mining identified "area," "business," "competence," "idea," and "success" as the most commonly used keywords. The keywords that showed the highest level of classification agreement in Delphi were "motivation," "advice," "obstacle," "business," "charisma," and "result." In the comparison using a 2x2 matrix, "dream," "idea," "opportunity," "leadership," "success," "benefit," and "satisfaction" emerged. The results indicate that interest in nursing start-ups develops at an early stage. In order to encourage nursing start-ups, it is necessary to strengthen business skills such as finance and budgeting, establish active policy support for such start-ups, and develop new nursing start-up items appropriate for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

RESUMEN

"Innovation" has become a ubiquitous term in the business of health care. The concept of disruptive innovation adds a new complexity to this popular notion. The emergence of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and venture capitalists generates excitement, doubt, and curiosity for stakeholders across health care organizations. As companies such as Amazon, Apple, CVS, and JP Morgan enter this sector, disruptions will emerge that aim to improve the quality of care while reducing overall cost. The purpose of this article is to differentiate the concepts of innovation and disruptive innovation, explore their significance to the nursing profession, and outline 3 key roles nurse leaders can occupy as they navigate the future ever-changing trajectory of health care.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Shortages in the speciality nursing workforce, both nationally and internationally are driving the need for the development of an evidence-based model to inform recruitment and retention into speciality nursing practice. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing rapid and early career transition into speciality nursing practice. METHODS: A comprehensive systematic review of the literature was undertaken using a convergent qualitative synthesis design where results from qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods studies were transformed into qualitative findings. Databases included CINAHL, Medline, Scopus and PsycINFO. Search terms were: nurse, early career, rapid career, transition, specialty, and Medical Subject Heading terms included: professional development and educational, nursing, and continuing. Using validated tools, papers were independently assessed by a minimum of two reviewers. RESULTS: Twenty-three research articles were included. There were no randomized control trials. Through thematic analysis and matrix mapping of the results, the TRANSPEC model was developed. The model outlines three phases of transition: pre-entry, incomer and insider. There has been little focus on pre-entry with programs being designed at the incomer and insider phases. Impacting on these phases are three concepts: the self (professional and personal), the transition processes (informal and formal) and a sense of belonging. The overarching theme influencing the phases and concepts is the context of practice. Enablers and inhibitors influence successful transition and therefore impact on recruitment and retention. Each nurse's transition is influenced by time. CONCLUSIONS: For successful transition, the enablers and inhibitors impacting on the three concepts, phases and the context of practice need to be considered when developing any program. It is apparent that while previous studies have focused on the transition processes, such as curricula, the development of the self and a sense of belonging are also essential to successful transition. Further studies should include the pre-entry phase.

Advanced practice is now possible in nursing practice in France. It is starting to be taught at university. Significant changes to practices are taking place in the short term, for nurses. In this context, it is interesting to look back at the foundations of nursing autonomy rooted in the origins of the scope of nursing practice.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the nursing errors reported by the journalistic media and interpret the main implications of this communication for the visibility of this problem. METHOD: Documental research, qualitative, descriptive and exploratory, with data collected in news reports from Brazil and Portugal, analyzed through hermeneutics with resources of Atlas Software. RESULTS: We analyzed 112 news items published between 2012 and 2016 that resulted in six categories: Year - highest occurrence in 2012; Age group of the patient - children; Professional category - nurses; Type of error - medication; Outcome - death; Possible attributed cause - occupational conditions. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Nursing mistakes are a challenge for the profession, and the way they are communicated by the media is not very explanatory, contributing to a negative visibility of the profession, and to making society insecure. Improving the way they are served in the media contributes to the visibility of the problem without affecting the professional image.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: to report the experience of the development of nursing knowledge from nursing theories and points of contact with the nurse's praxis. METHOD: case report on the reflections on contents addressed in the discipline offered in the Graduate Program in Nursing in a federal public university. The students presented seminars approaching the main nursing theories, generating extensive discussion and correlating them with the nurse's practice. Review and reflection on the contents addressed. RESULT: two themes were defined: the training of nursing undergraduate students and the development of knowledge in relation to the concepts of nursing theories; and care models and nurses' critical reasoning about the applicability of nursing theories. FINAL CONSIDERATION: the reflections produced permeated the development and acquisition of knowledge and of representative meanings of healthcare practice from the assumptions and constructs of the theories.

RESUMEN

Based on a Lived Experience Description written by an experienced nurse in Denmark, this article offers an ontological and existential-phenomenological exploration of aesthetic dimensions of excellence in nursing. In the research of Patricia Benner and colleagues, excellence in nursing is described as a matter of intuitive pattern recognition based on clinical experience and narrative understanding. In this article, and based on phenomenological reflections and philosophical inspirations from the Danish philosopher Dorthe Jørgensen and the French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty, I suggest an extended understanding of excellence in nursing, and I argue that the work and research of Benner seem to overlook ontological and aesthetic aspects of excellence in nursing. This article argues that aesthetic aspects of excellence in nursing can be comprehended as moments where nurses sense a surplus of meaning and moments where the nurse and the patient share and are subjected to communal and unfolding life phenomena. Aesthetic dimensions of being in nursing can, from an ontological approach, best be described as similar to the way human beings listen to a piece of music or to how artists try to give a voice to the world: as a resonant way of being and becoming within the moment.

RESUMEN

This article puts forward a theoretical model of nursing practice, elaborating and illustrating how the model can be used by nursing practitioners, students, and educators. Experiences with using the model in a pilot study with a clinical supervisor and three nursing students is reported. Implications of the model for working with competence development is discussed, both in relation to issues raised by Weeks et al. (2017) specifically, and to competence-based approaches more generally. A key point is that a focus on competence alone may not provide students with adequate conceptual tools for interpreting and acting competently in practical situations. The proposed theoretical model is seen as providing such a tool.
