RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI)-dependent atrial flutter requires ablation of the tricuspid annulus overlying the right coronary artery (RCA). While considered safe, reports of acute and subacute RCA injury in human and animal studies raise the possibility of late RCA stenosis. OBJECTIVE: To compare the incidence and severity of angiographic RCA stenoses in patients who have undergone CTI RFA to a control group to assess the long-term risk of RCA damage. METHODS: A two-center retrospective case-cohort study was performed including all patients from 2002-2018 undergoing atrial fibrillation (AF) with CTI ablation (CTI+AF) or AF ablation alone with subsequent coronary angiography (CAG). The AF alone group served as controls due to anticipated similarity of baseline characteristics. Coronary arteries that are anatomically remote to the CTI were examined as prespecified falsification endpoints. CAG was scored by a blinded observer. RESULTS: 156 patients who underwent PVI with subsequent CAG (CTI+AF, n=81; AF alone, n=75) had no difference in baseline characteristics including age, sex, comorbidities, and medications. Mean time from ablation to CAG was similar (CTI+AF 5.0±3.7 years vs AF alone 5.4 ±3.9 years, p=0.5). The mid and distal RCA showed no difference in the average number of angiographic stenoses or lesion severity. In regression analysis, CTI ablation was not a predictor of RCA stenosis severity (p=0.6). There was no difference in coronary disease at sites remote to the CTI ablation (p=NS for all). CONCLUSION: There was no observed relationship between CTI RFA and the number or severity of angiographically apparent RCA stenoses in long-term follow up.

BACKGROUND: Biological age may be estimated by proteomic aging clocks (PACs). Previous published PACs were constructed either in smaller studies or mainly in white individuals, and they used proteomic measures from only one-time point. In this study, we created de novo PACs and compared their performance to published PACs at 2 different time points in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study of white and black participants (around 75% white and 25% black). MEDTHODS AND FINDINGS: A total of 4,712 plasma proteins were measured using SomaScan in blood samples collected in 1990 to 1992 from 11,761 midlife participants (aged 46 to 70 years) and in 2011 to 2013 from 5,183 late-life participants (aged 66 to 90 years). The de novo ARIC PACs were constructed by training them against chronological age using elastic net regression in two-thirds of healthy participants in midlife and late life and validated in the remaining one-third of healthy participants at the corresponding time point. We also computed 3 published PACs. We estimated age acceleration for each PAC as residuals after regressing each PAC on chronological age. We also calculated the change in age acceleration from midlife to late life. We examined the associations of age acceleration and change in age acceleration with mortality through 2019 from all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer, and lower respiratory disease (LRD) using Cox proportional hazards regression in participants (irrespective of health) after excluding the training set. The model was adjusted for chronological age, smoking, body mass index (BMI), and other confounders. We externally validated the midlife PAC using the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Exam 1 data. The ARIC PACs had a slightly stronger correlation with chronological age than published PACs in healthy participants at each time point. Associations with mortality were similar for the ARIC PACs and published PACs. For late-life and midlife age acceleration for the ARIC PACs, respectively, hazard ratios (HRs) per 1 standard deviation were 1.65 and 1.38 (both p < 0.001) for all-cause mortality, 1.37 and 1.20 (both p < 0.001) for CVD mortality, 1.21 (p = 0.028) and 1.04 (p = 0.280) for cancer mortality, and 1.46 and 1.68 (both p < 0.001) for LRD mortality. For the change in age acceleration, HRs for all-cause, CVD, and LRD mortality were comparable to the HRs for late-life age acceleration. The association between the change in age acceleration and cancer mortality was not significant. The external validation of the midlife PAC in MESA showed significant associations with mortality, as observed for midlife participants in ARIC. The main limitation is that our PACs were constructed in midlife and late-life participants. It is unknown whether these PACs could be applied to young individuals. CONCLUSIONS: In this longitudinal study, we found that the ARIC PACs and published PACs were similarly associated with an increased risk of mortality. These findings suggested that PACs show promise as biomarkers of biological age. PACs may be serve as tools to predict mortality and evaluate the effect of anti-aging lifestyle and therapeutic interventions.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) procedures can cause significant postoperative pain. Opioid use for postoperative pain is associated with risk of persistent use. The benefits of pectoral nerve (PECs) blocks have been established for other chest wall surgeries, but adoption in electrophysiology has been limited. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of intraoperative ultrasound-guided PECs blocks performed at the time of CIED procedures by the implanting physician from within the device pocket. METHODS: Patients undergoing a pectoral CIED procedure at 7 centers from 2022-2023 were included. Patients underwent intraoperative PECs blocks and subcutaneous local anesthetic vs subcutaneous local anesthetic only at the discretion of the operator. Patients were prospectively evaluated for postoperative pain. RESULTS: Six hundred ten patients (age 67 ± 15 years old; 63% male) were enrolled. and half (n = 305) underwent PECs block. Patients who underwent PECs block were more likely to have a history of chronic pain (32% vs 11%, P <.001). PECs block was associated with lower pain scores in the 4 hours after the procedure (1.5 ± 2.1 vs 4.5 ± 2.5, P <.001). Pain scores were not different after 24 hours (2.8 ± 1.7 vs 3.1 ± 2.2) and 2 weeks (0.9 ± 1.4 vs 0.9 ± 1.2). PECs block patients were less likely to receive inpatient opioids (10% vs 48%, P <.001) and to be discharged with an opioid prescription (15% vs 59%, P <.001). In multivariable linear regression, PECs block (P <.001), age (P = .002), and absence of chronic pain (P = .009) were associated with lower acute postoperative pain. CONCLUSION: Intraoperative PECs block can reduce postoperative pain and opioid use. This procedure can be readily performed by the implanting physician from within the device pocket.

Rationale & Objective: Matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) plays an important role in the development of fibrosis, the final common pathway of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to assess the relationship between repeated measures of MMP-2 and CKD progression in a large, diverse prospective cohort. Study Design: In a prospective cohort of Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) participants (N = 3,827), MMP-2 was measured at baseline. In a case-cohort design, MMP-2 was additionally measured at year 2 in a randomly selected subcohort and cases of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) halving or kidney replacement therapy (KRT) (N = 1,439). Setting & Participants: CRIC is a multicenter prospective cohort of adults with CKD. Exposure: MMP-2 measured in plasma at baseline and at year 2. Outcomes: A composite kidney endpoint (KRT/eGFR halving). Analytical Approach: Weighted Cox proportional hazards models for case-cohort participants. Results: Participants were followed for a median of 4.6 years from year 2 and 6.9 years from the baseline. Persistently elevated MMP-2 (≥300 ng/mL at both baseline and year 2) increased the hazard of the composite kidney endpoint (HR, 1.61; 95% CI, 1.07-2.42; P = 0.09) after adjusting for covariates. The relationship of persistently elevated MMP-2 was modified by levels of inflammation, with a 2.6 times higher rate of the composite kidney endpoint in those with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein < 2.5 g/dL at study entry. Heterogeneity of effect was found with proteinuria, with a baseline MMP-2 level of ≥300 ng/mL associated with an increased risk of the composite kidney endpoint (HR, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.09-1.54) only with proteinuria ≥ 442 mg/g. Limitations: The observational study design limits causal interpretation. Conclusions: Elevated MMP-2 is associated with CKD progression, particularly among those with low inflammation and those with proteinuria. Future investigations are warranted to confirm the reduction in risk of CKD progression among these subgroups of patients with CKD.


Matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) is a matrix-degrading protease involved in fibrosis and elevated in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Longitudinal patterns of MMP-2 have not previously been assessed as a predictor of CKD progression in a large prospective cohort. Here, we found that a higher baseline level and an increasing or persistently elevated 2-year pattern of MMP-2 were associated with CKD progression, independent of all covariates except proteinuria. The association of baseline MMP-2 with CKD progression differed by level of proteinuria, whereas levels of inflammation modified the associations of 2-year MMP-2 patterns with CKD progression.

INTRODUCTION: Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and dementia disproportionately burden patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The association between CHIP and cognitive impairment in CKD patients is unknown. METHODS: We conducted time-to-event analyses in up to 1452 older adults with CKD from the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort who underwent CHIP gene sequencing. Cognition was assessed using four validated tests in up to 6 years mean follow-up time. Incident cognitive impairment was defined as a test score one standard deviation below the baseline mean. RESULTS: Compared to non-carriers, CHIP carriers were markedly less likely to experience impairment in attention (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] [95% confidence interval {CI}] = 0.44 [0.26, 0.76], p = 0.003) and executive function (adjusted HR [95% CI] = 0.60 [0.37, 0.97], p = 0.04). There were no significant associations between CHIP and impairment in global cognition or verbal memory. DISCUSSION: CHIP was associated with lower risks of impairment in attention and executive function among CKD patients. HIGHLIGHTS: Our study is the first to examine the role of CHIP in cognitive decline in CKD. CHIP markedly decreased the risk of impairment in attention and executive function. CHIP was not associated with impairment in global cognition or verbal memory.

BACKGROUND: Epicardial (Epi) access is commonly required during ventricular tachycardia ablation. Conventional Epi (ConvEpi) access targets a "dry" pericardial space presenting technical challenges and risk of complications. Recently, intentional puncture of coronary venous branches with Epi carbon dioxide insufflation (EpiCO2) has been described as a technique to improve Epi access. The safety of this technique relative to conventional methods remains unproven. OBJECTIVES: The authors sought to compare the feasibility and safety of EpiCO2 to ConvEpi access. METHODS: All patients at a high-volume center undergoing Epi access between January 2021 and December 2023 were included and grouped according to ConvEpi or EpiCO2 approach. Access technique was according to the discretion of the operator. RESULTS: Epi access was attempted in 153 cases by 17 different operators (80 ConvEpi vs 73 EpiCO2). There was no difference in success rate whether the ConvEpi or EpiCO2 approach was used (76 [95%] cases vs 67 [91.8%] cases; P = 0.4). Total Epi access time was shorter in the ConvEpi group compared with the EpiCO2 group (16.3 ± 11.6 minutes vs 26.9 ± 12.7 minutes; P < 0.001), though the total procedure duration was similar. Major Epi access-related complications occurred in only the ConvEpi group (6 [7.5%] ConvEpi vs 0 [0%] EpiCo2; P = 0.02). Bleeding ≥80 mL was more frequently observed following ConvEpi access (14 [17.5%] cases vs 4 [5.5%] cases; P = 0.02). After adjusting for age, repeat Epi access, and antithrombotic therapy, EpiCO2 was associated with a reduction in bleeding ≥80 mL (OR: 0.27; 95% CI: 0.08-0.89; P = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: EpiCO2 access is associated with lower rates of major complication and bleeding when compared with ConvEpi access.

Youth and adult participation in sports continues to increase, and athletes may be diagnosed with potentially arrhythmogenic cardiac conditions. This international multidisciplinary document is intended to guide electrophysiologists, sports cardiologists, and associated health care team members in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of arrhythmic conditions in the athlete with the goal of facilitating return to sport and avoiding the harm caused by restriction. Expert, disease-specific risk assessment in the context of athlete symptoms and diagnoses is emphasized throughout the document. After appropriate risk assessment, management of arrhythmias geared toward return to play when possible is addressed. Other topics include shared decision-making and emergency action planning. The goal of this document is to provide evidence-based recommendations impacting all areas in the care of athletes with arrhythmic conditions. Areas in need of further study are also discussed.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Incident heart failure (HF) among individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) incurs hospitalizations that burden patients and health care systems. There are few preventative therapies, and the Pooled Cohort equations to Prevent Heart Failure (PCP-HF) perform poorly in the setting of CKD. New drug targets and better risk stratification are urgently needed. METHODS: In this analysis of incident HF, SomaScan V4.0 (4638 proteins) was analysed in 2906 participants of the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) with validation in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study. The primary outcome was 14-year incident HF (390 events); secondary outcomes included 4-year HF (183 events), HF with reduced ejection fraction (137 events), and HF with preserved ejection fraction (165 events). Mendelian randomization and Gene Ontology were applied to examine causality and pathways. The performance of novel multi-protein risk models was compared to the PCP-HF risk score. RESULTS: Over 200 proteins were associated with incident HF after adjustment for estimated glomerular filtration rate at P < 1 × 10-5. After adjustment for covariates including N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, 17 proteins remained associated at P < 1 × 10-5. Mendelian randomization associations were found for six proteins, of which four are druggable targets: FCG2B, IGFBP3, CAH6, and ASGR1. For the primary outcome, the C-statistic (95% confidence interval [CI]) for the 48-protein model in CRIC was 0.790 (0.735, 0.844) vs. 0.703 (0.644, 0.762) for the PCP-HF model (P = .001). C-statistic (95% CI) for the protein model in ARIC was 0.747 (0.707, 0.787). CONCLUSIONS: Large-scale proteomics reveal novel circulating protein biomarkers and potential mediators of HF in CKD. Proteomic risk models improve upon the PCP-HF risk score in this population.

BACKGROUND: Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) are common and associated with worse outcomes in patients with heart failure. Class 1C antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) effectively suppress PVCs, but guidelines currently restrict their use in structural heart disease. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of class 1C AADs in patients with nonischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). METHODS: All patients with NICM and an ICD treated with flecainide or propafenone at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania between 2014 and 2022 were identified. PVC burden, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and biventricular pacing percentage were compared before and during class 1C AAD treatment. Safety outcomes included sustained atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, heart failure admissions, and death. RESULTS: We identified 34 patients, 23 receiving flecainide and 11 propafenone. Most patients (62%) had failed other AADs or catheter ablation (68%) prior to class 1C AAD initiation. PVC burden decreased from 20% ± 13% to 6% ± 7% (P < 0.001), LVEF increased from 33% ± 9% to 37% ± 10% (P = 0.01), and biventricular pacing percentage increased from 85% ± 9% to 93% ± 7% (P = 0.01). Sustained ventricular tachycardia (2 vs 9 patients) and admissions for decompensated heart failure (2 vs 3 patients) decreased compared with the 12 months prior to class 1C AAD initiation. CONCLUSIONS: Class 1C AADs effectively suppressed PVCs in patients with NICM and ICDs, leading to increases in LVEF and biventricular pacing percentage. In this limited sample, their use was safe. Larger studies are needed to confirm the safety of this approach.

BACKGROUND: Elevated cardiac troponin (cTn) is detected in 10% to 30% of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and correlates with poor functional outcomes. Serial cTn measurements differentiate a dynamic cTn pattern (rise/fall >20%), specific for acute myocardial injury, from elevated but stable cTn levels (nondynamic), typically attributed to chronic cardiac/noncardiac conditions. We investigated if the direction of the cTn change (rising versus falling) affects mortality and outcome. METHODS AND RESULTS: We retrospectively screened consecutive patients with AIS admitted to 5 stroke centers for elevated cTn at admission and at least 1 additional cTn measurement within 48 hours. The pattern of cTn was defined as rising if >20% increase from baseline, falling if >20% decrease, or nondynamic if ≤20% change in either direction. Logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association of cTn patterns and 7-day mortality and unfavorable discharge disposition. Of 3789 patients with AIS screened, 300 were included. Seventy-two had a rising pattern, 66 falling, and 162 nondynamic. In patients with AIS with rising cTn, acute ischemic myocardial infarction was present in 54%, compared with 33% in those with falling cTn (P<0.01). Twenty-two percent of patients with a rising pattern had an isolated dynamic cTn in the absence of any ECG or echocardiogram changes, compared with 53% with falling cTn. A rising pattern was associated with higher risk of 7-day mortality (adjusted odds ratio [OR]=32 [95% CI, 2.5-415.0] rising versus aOR=1.3 [95% CI, 0.1-38.0] falling versus nondynamic as reference) and unfavorable discharge disposition (aOR=2.5 [95% CI, 1.2-5.2] rising versus aOR=0.6 [95% CI, 0.2-1.5] versus falling). CONCLUSIONS: Rising cTn is independently associated with increased mortality and unfavorable discharge disposition in patients with AIS.

Background: Long-term rhythm monitoring to detect atrial fibrillation (AF) following a cryptogenic stroke (CS) is well established. However, the burden of organized atrial arrhythmias in this population is not well defined. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence and risk factors for organized atrial arrhythmias in patients with CS. Methods: We evaluated all patients with CS who received an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) between October 2014 and April 2020. All ICM transmissions categorized as AF, tachycardia, or bradycardia were reviewed. We evaluated the time to detection of organized AF and the combination of either organized atrial arrhythmia or AF. Results: A total of 195 CS patients with ICMs were included (51% men; mean age 66 ± 12 years; mean CHA2DS2-VASC score 4.6). Over mean follow-up of 18.9 ± 11.2 months, organized atrial arrhythmias lasting ≥30 seconds were detected in 45 patients (23%), of whom 62% did not have AF. Seventeen patients had both organized atrial arrhythmia and AF, and another 21 patients had AF only. Compared to those with normal left atrial size, patients with left atrial enlargement had a higher adjusted risk for development of atrial arrhythmias (mild left atrial enlargement: hazard ratio 1.99; 95% confidence interval 1.06-3.75; moderate/severe left atrial enlargement: hazard ratio 3.06; 95% confidence interval 1.58-5.92). Conclusion: Organized atrial arrhythmias lasting ≥30 seconds are detected in nearly one-fourth of CS patients. Two-thirds of these patients did not have AF. Further studies are required to evaluate the impact of organized atrial arrhythmias on recurrent stroke risk.

BACKGROUND: Targeting non-pulmonary vein triggers (NPVTs) after pulmonary vein isolation may reduce atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence. Isoproterenol infusion and cardioversion of spontaneous or induced AF can provoke NPVTs but typically require vasopressor support and increased procedural time. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for the presence of NPVTs and create a risk score to identify higher-risk subgroups. METHODS: Using the AF ablation registry at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, we included consecutive patients who underwent AF ablation between January 2021 and December 2022. We excluded patients who did not receive NPVT provocation testing after failing to demonstrate spontaneous NPVTs. NPVTs were defined as non-pulmonary vein ectopic beats triggering AF or focal atrial tachycardia. We used risk factors associated with NPVTs with P <.1 in multivariable logistic regression model to create a risk score in a randomly split derivation set (80%) and tested its predictive accuracy in the validation set (20%). RESULTS: In 1530 AF ablations included, NPVTs were observed in 235 (15.4%). In the derivation set, female sex (odds ratio [OR] 1.40; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.96-2.03; P = .080), sinus node dysfunction (OR 1.67; 95% CI 0.98-2.87; P = .060), previous AF ablation (OR 2.50; 95% CI 1.70-3.65; P <.001), and left atrial scar (OR 2.90; 95% CI 1.94-4.36; P <.001) were risk factors associated with NPVTs. The risk score created from these risk factors (PRE2SSS2 score; [PRE]vious ablation: 2 points, female [S]ex: 1 point, [S]inus node dysfunction: 1 point, left atrial [S]car: 2 points) had good predictive accuracy in the validation cohort (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve 0.728; 95% CI 0.648-0.807). CONCLUSION: A risk score incorporating predictors for NPVTs may allow provocation of triggers to be performed in patients with greatest expected yield.

Progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) portends myriad complications, including kidney failure. In this study, we analyze associations of 4638 plasma proteins among 3235 participants of the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort Study with the primary outcome of 50% decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate or kidney failure over 10 years. We validate key findings in the Atherosclerosis Risk in the Communities study. We identify 100 circulating proteins that are associated with the primary outcome after multivariable adjustment, using a Bonferroni statistical threshold of significance. Individual protein associations and biological pathway analyses highlight the roles of bone morphogenetic proteins, ephrin signaling, and prothrombin activation. A 65-protein risk model for the primary outcome has excellent discrimination (C-statistic[95%CI] 0.862 [0.835, 0.889]), and 14/65 proteins are druggable targets. Potentially causal associations for five proteins, to our knowledge not previously reported, are supported by Mendelian randomization: EGFL9, LRP-11, MXRA7, IL-1 sRII and ILT-2. Modifiable protein risk markers can guide therapeutic drug development aimed at slowing CKD progression.

Background Cardiovascular complications after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) can be related to chronic/comorbid cardiac conditions or acute disruption of the brain-heart autonomic axis (stroke-heart syndrome). Women are known to be more vulnerable to certain stress-induced cardiac complications, such as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. We investigated sex differences in cardiac troponin (cTn) elevation, cardiac events, and outcomes after AIS. Methods and Results We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with AIS from 5 stroke centers. Patients with AIS with elevated baseline cTn and at least 2 cTn measurements were included, while patients with acute comorbid conditions that could impact cTn levels were excluded. Poststroke acute myocardial injury was defined as the presence of a dynamic cTn pattern (rise/fall >20% in serial measurements) in the absence of acute atherosclerotic coronary disease (type 1 myocardial infarction) or cardiac death (type 3 myocardial infarction). From a total cohort of 3789 patients with AIS, 300 patients were included in the study: 160 were women (53%). Women were older, had a lower burden of cardiovascular risk factors, and more frequently had cardioembolic stroke and right insula involvement (P values all <0.05). In multivariate analysis, women were more likely to have a dynamic cTn pattern (adjusted odds ratio, 2.1 [95% CI, 1.2-3.6]) and develop poststroke acute myocardial injury (adjusted odds ratio, 2.1 [95% CI, 1.1-3.8]). Patients with poststroke acute myocardial injury had higher 7-day mortality (adjusted odds ratio, 5.5 [95% CI, 1.2-24.4]). Conclusions In patients with AIS with elevated cTn at baseline, women are twice as likely to develop poststroke acute myocardial injury, and this is associated with higher risk of short-term mortality. Translational studies are needed to clarify mechanisms underlying sex differences in cardiac events and mortality in AIS.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an increased risk of pulmonary hypertension, which may lead to right ventricular (RV) pressure overload and RV dysfunction. However, the presence of subclinical changes in RV structure or function in early CKD and the influence of these changes on mortality are not well studied. We hypothesized that early CKD, as indicated by elevated albuminuria or mild reductions in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), is associated with greater RV dilation and RV mass. Methods: We included 4063 participants (age 45-84 years) without baseline clinical cardiovascular disease from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis. The associations of baseline creatinine-cystatin C-based eGFR and albuminuria with cardiac magnetic resonance-derived RV measures (2000-02) were examined cross-sectionally with linear regression models. Cox regression models were used to examine whether RV parameters modified the associations of eGFR and albuminuria with all-cause mortality. Results: Participants with reductions in eGFR primarily within the 60-89 mL/min/1.73 m2 category had smaller RV end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes and stroke volume (all adjusted P-trends <.001) than those with eGFR ≥90 mL/min/1.73 m2, an association that was predominantly seen in participants with albuminuria below 30 mg/g creatinine. Albuminuria was more strongly associated with death among those with lower RV volumes (P-values for interaction <.03). Conclusions: Among community-dwelling adults, reductions in eGFR primarily within the normal range were associated with smaller RV volumes and the association of albuminuria with worse survival was stronger among those with smaller RV volumes. Further studies are needed to elucidate the underlying mechanistic pathways that link kidney measures and RV morphology.
