RESUMEN

Uranium is considered as a very important nuclear energy material because of the huge amount of energy it releases. As the main product of the spontaneous decay of uranium, it is difficult for helium to react with uranium because of its chemical inertness. Therefore, bubbles will be formed inside uranium, which could greatly reduce the performance of uranium or cause safety problems. Additionally, nuclear materials are usually operated in an environment of high-temperature and high-pressure, so it is necessary to figure out the exact state of helium inside uranium under extreme conditions. Here, we explored the structural stability of the U-He system under high pressure and high temperature by using density functional theory calculations. Two metastable phases are found between 50 and 400 GPa: U4He with space group Fmmm and U6He with space group P1̄. Both are metallic and adopt layered structures. Electron localization function calculation combined with charge density difference analysis indicates that there are covalent bonds between U and U atoms in both Fmmm-U4He and P1̄-U6He. Regarding the elastic modulus of α-U, the addition of helium has certain influence on the mechanical properties of uranium. Besides, first-principles molecular dynamics simulations were carried out to study the dynamical behavior of Fmmm-U4He and P1̄-U6He at high-temperature. It was found that Fmmm-U4He and P1̄-U6He undergo one-dimensional superionic phase transitions at 150 GPa. Our study revealed the exotic structure of U-He compounds beyond the formation of bubbles under high-pressure and high-temperature, which might be relevant to the performance and safety issues of nuclear materials under extreme conditions.

RESUMEN

Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) has been rapidly developed and applied to different detection scenarios. The acoustic pressure detection is an important part in the PAS system. In this paper, an ultrahigh sensitivity Fabry-Perot acoustic sensor with a T-shaped cantilever was proposed. To achieve the best acoustic pressure effect, the dimension of the cantilever structure was designed and optimized by finite element analysis using COMSOL Multiphysics. Simulation results showed that the sensitivity of such T-shaped cantilever was 1.5 times higher than that based on a rectangular cantilever, and the resonance frequency of T-shaped cantilever were able to modulate from 800 Hz to 1500 Hz by adjusting the multi-parameter characteristics. Experimental sensing results showed that the resonance frequency of T-shaped Fabry-Perot acoustic sensor was 1080 Hz, yielding a high sensitivity of 1.428 µm/Pa, with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 84.8 dB and a detectable pressure limit of 1.9 µPa/Hz1/2@1 kHz. We successfully used such acoustic sensor to measure acetylene (C2H2) concentration in the PAS. The sensitivity of PAS for C2H2 gas was 3.22 pm/ppm with a concentration range of 50 ppm ∼100 ppm, and the minimum detection limit was 24.91ppb.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Ocular melanoma is a common primary malignant ocular tumor in adults with limited effective treatments. Epigenetic regulation plays an important role in tumor development. The switching/sucrose nonfermentation (SWI/SNF) chromatin remodeling complex and bromodomain and extraterminal domain family proteins are epigenetic regulators involved in several cancers. We aimed to screen a candidate small molecule inhibitor targeting these regulators and investigate its effect and mechanism in ocular melanoma. Methods: We observed phenotypes caused by knockdown of the corresponding gene and synergistic effects with BRD inhibitor treatment and SWI/SNF complex knockdown. The effect of JQ-1 on ocular melanoma cell cycle and apoptosis was analyzed with flow cytometry. Via RNA sequencing, we also explored the mechanism of BRD4. Results: The best tumor inhibitory effect was observed for the BRD4 inhibitor (JQ-1), although there were no statistically obvious changes in the shBRD4 and shBRD9 groups. Interestingly, the inhibitory effect of JQ-1 was decrease in the shBRD4 group. JQ-1 inhibits the growth of melanoma in various cell lines and in tumor-bearing mice. We found 17 of these 28 common differentially expressed genes were downregulated after MEL270 and MEL290 cells treated with JQ-1. Four of these 17 genes, TP53I11, SH2D5, SEMA5A, and MDGA1, were positively correlated with BRD4. In TCGA database, low expression of TP53I11, SH2D5, SEMA5A, and MDGA1 improved the overall survival rate of patients. Furthermore, the disease-free survival rate was increased in the groups with low expression of TP53I11, SH2D5, and SEMA5A. Conclusions: JQ-1 may act downstream of BRD4 and suppress ocular melanoma growth by inducing G1 cell cycle arrest.

RESUMEN

Photoactive formamidinium lead triiodide (α-FAPbI3) perovskite has dominated the prevailing high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs), normally for those spin-coated, conventional n-i-p structured devices. Unfortunately, α-FAPbI3 has not been made full use of its advantages in inverted p-i-n structured PSCs fabricated via blade-coating techniques owing to uncontrollable crystallization kinetics and complicated phase evolution of FAPbI3 perovskites. Herein, a customized crystal surface energy regulation strategy has been innovatively developed by incorporating 0.5 mol% of N-aminoethylpiperazine hydroiodide (NAPI) additive into α-FAPbI3 crystal-derived perovskite ink, which enabled the formation of phase-pure, highly-oriented α-FAPbI3 films. We deciphered the phase transformation mechanisms and crystallization kinetics of blade-coated α-FAPbI3 perovskite films via combining a series of in-situ characterizations. Interestingly, the strong chemical interactions between the NAPI and inorganic Pb-I framework help to reduce the surface energy of (100) crystal plane by 42%, retard the crystallization rate and lower the formation energy of α-FAPbI3. The resultant blade-coated inverted PSCs based on (100)-oriented α-FAPbI3 perovskite films realized promising efficiencies up to 24.16% (~26.5% higher than that of the randomly-oriented counterparts), accompanied by improved operational stability. This result represented one of the best performances reported to date for FAPbI3-based inverted PSCs fabricated via scalable deposition methods.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to explore the potential antioxidant activity and mechanism of oligopeptides from sauce-aroma Baijiu. The oligopeptides of Val-Leu-Pro-Phe (VLPF), Pro-Leu-Phe (PLF), Val-Gly-Phe-Cys (VGFC), Leu-Tyr-Pro (LYP), Leu-Pro-Phe (LPF), and Phe-Thr-Phe (FTF) were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) from the mixed-distillate of Baijiu fermented grains and soy sauce residue (MDFS). The antioxidant mechanism of these oligopeptides on scavenging DPPH•, ABTS•+, and hydroxide radicals was investigated, respectively. Among them, VGFC had the strongest potential antioxidant activity, which was responsible for its hydrogen bonds with these radicals with high affinity. The binding energies between VGFC and these radicals were -1.26 kcal/mol, -1.33 kcal/mol, and -1.93 kcal/mol, respectively. Additionally, free radicals prefer to bind the oligopeptide composed of hydrophobic amino acid residues such as Leu, Val, Phe, and Pro, thus being scavenged for exerting antioxidant activity. It provided a new idea for the development and utilization of bioactive oligopeptides in sauce-aroma Baijiu.

RESUMEN

Wild yeast suitable for kiwifruit wine fermentation was isolated and purified, and the fermentation process was optimized to increase the alcohol content of the kiwifruit wine. Pichia kluyveri was isolated from kiwifruit pulp by lineation separating, screened by morphological characteristics in Wallerstein Laboratory Nutrient Agar (WL) medium and microscope observation, and further identified by 26S rDNA D1/D2 domain sequence analysis. Taking alcohol content and sensory evaluation as two indexes, the fermentation condition for kiwifruit wine was optimized by single factor and response surface experiment. The optimal fermentation conditions were optimized as follows: the fermentation temperature was at 24 °C, the initial pH was 3.8, the sugar dosage in second step was 8% (w/w), and the inoculating quantity of Pichia kluyveri and Saccharomyces cerevisiae was 0.15 g/L at equal proportion. Under these optimal conditions, the maximum estimated alcohol content was 15.6 vol%, and the kiwifruit wine was light green in color with strong kiwifruit aroma and mellow taste.

RESUMEN

The development of the mining industry and the overuse of inorganic fertilizers have led to an excess of manganese (Mn) in the soil, thereby, contaminating the soil environment and people's health. On heavy metal-contaminated soils, the combined arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF)-phytoremediation technique becomes a hotspot because of its environmentally friendly, in situ remediation. AMF inoculation often leads to a decrease in host Mn acquisition, which provides a basis for its application in phytoremediation of contaminated soils. Moreover, the utilization value of native AMF is greater than that of exotic AMF, because native AMF can adapt better to Mn-contaminated soils. In addition to the fact that AMF enhance plant Mn tolerance responses such as regionalization, organic matter chelation, limiting uptake and efflux, and so on, AMF also develop plant-independent fungal pathways such as direct biosorption of Mn by mycorrhizal hyphae, fungal Mn transporter genes, and sequestration of Mn by mycorrhizal hyphae, glomalin, and arbuscule-containing root cortical cells, which together mitigate excessive Mn toxicity to plants. Clarifying AMF-plant interactions under Mn stress will provide support for utilizing AMF as a phytoremediation in Mn-contaminated soils. The review reveals in detail how AMF develop its own mechanisms for responding to excess Mn and how AMF enhance plant Mn tolerance, accompanied by perspectives for future research.

RESUMEN

Background: This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of Zero-P and ROI-C devices applied to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) surgery of cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD). Methods: From January 2020 and December 2020, 56 patients with CDDD who underwent ACDF using Zero-P or ROI-C were included in this retrospective study. The outcomes included visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, neck disability index (NDI) score, Cobb angle, dysphagia, and bone fusion rate. Dysphagia was assessed using the Bazaz grading system. The comparison of outcomes between the two groups was based on the 2-year follow-up time point, which was defined as the last follow-up visit. Results: The Zero-P group included 16 males and 14 females, with a mean age of 56.2 (range, 35-65) years. The ROI-C group included 11 males and 15 females, with a mean age of 57.4 (range, 36-67) years. There was no significant difference in gender and mean age between the two groups. There were no significant differences in VAS score, JOA score, NDI score, Cobb angle, dysphagia, and bone fusion rate between two groups at the last follow up visit. In the Zero-P group, the duration of surgeries involving C3-4 or C6-7 segments was significantly longer than those including C4-5 or C5-6 segments (135.0 ± 19.0 vs. 105.6 ± 17.5 min, P < 0.05). In surgeries involving C3-4 or C6-7 segments, the operation time of ROI-C was significantly shorter than that of Zero-P (106.5 ± 19.5 vs.112.2 ± 20.5 min, P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the dysphagia or cage subsidence rates between the Zero-P and ROI-C groups (P > 0.05). The Cobb angle in the last follow-up visit in the Zero-P group (24.4 ± 4.5°) was significantly higher than that in the ROI-C group (18.1 ± 2.3°) (P < 0.05). Conclusions: ACDF using ROI-C device showed an efficacy similar to the Zero-P device, as well as a shorter operation time for surgeries involving C3-4 or C6-7 segments. However, ROI-C could cause more loss of Cobb angle over time, which could lead to uncomfortable symptoms.

RESUMEN

Intrinsically stretchable organic photovoltaics have emerged as a prominent candidate for the next-generation wearable power generators regarding their structural design flexibility, omnidirectional stretchability, and in-plane deformability. However, formulating strategies to fabricate intrinsically stretchable organic photovoltaics that exhibit mechanical robustness under both repetitive strain cycles and high tensile strains remains challenging. Herein, we demonstrate high-performance intrinsically stretchable organic photovoltaics with an initial power conversion efficiency of 14.2%, exceptional stretchability (80% of the initial power conversion efficiency maintained at 52% tensile strain), and cyclic mechanical durability (95% of the initial power conversion efficiency retained after 100 strain cycles at 10%). The stretchability is primarily realised by delocalising and redistributing the strain in the active layer to a highly stretchable PEDOT:PSS electrode developed with a straightforward incorporation of ION E, which simultaneously enhances the stretchability of PEDOT:PSS itself and meanwhile reinforces the interfacial adhesion with the polyurethane substrate. Both enhancements are pivotal factors ensuring the excellent mechanical durability of the PEDOT:PSS electrode, which further effectively delays the crack initiation and propagation in the top active layer, and enables the limited performance degradation under high tensile strains and repetitive strain cycles.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Cartilage defect (CD) is a common complication in osteoarthritis (OA). Impairment of chondrogenesis and cellular senescence are considered as hallmarks of OA development and caused failure of cartilage repair in most clinical CD cases. Exploring markers for cellular senescence in CD patients might provide new perspectives for osteoarthritic CD patients. In the present study, we aim to explore senescent markers in CD patients with OA to fabricate a senescence-targeted SMSC organoid hydrogel for cartilage repair. Methods: Clinical cartilage samples from cartilage defect patients were collected. Immunofluorescence staining of senescent markers and SA-ß-Gal staining were used to detect the senescence state of SMSCs and chondrocytes in cartilage defect and OA patients. MicroRNA expression profiles of SMSC organoids and H2O2-treated SMSC organoids were analyzed and compared with high-throughput microRNA sequencing. Fluorescent in situ hybridization of miRNA were used to determine the expression level of miR-24 in SMSC organoids and cartilage samples. Interaction between miR-24 and its downstream target was analyzed via qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence and luciferase assay. Senescence-targeted miR-24 µS/SMSC organoid hydrogel (MSOH) was constructed for cartilage repair. Anti-senescence properties and chondrogenesis were determined in vitro for MSOH. Rats were used to evaluate the cartilage repair capacity of the MSOH hydrogel in vivo. Results: In this study, we found Osteoarthritic cartilage defect patients demonstrated upregulated cellular senescence in joint cartilage. MicroRNA sequencing demonstrated senescence marker miR-24 was negatively associated with cartilage impairment and cellular senescence in osteoarthritic CD patients. Moreover, miR-24 mimics alleviates cellular senescence to promote chondrogenesis by targeting downstream TAOK1. Also, miR-24 downregulated TAOK1 expression and promoted chondrogenesis in SMSC organoids. Senescence-targeted miR-24 µS/SMSC organoid hydrogel (MSOH) was constructed and demonstrated superior chondrogenesis in vitro. Animal experiments demonstrated that MSOH hydrogel showed better cartilage repairing effects and better maintained joint function at 24 weeks with low intra-articular inflammatory response after transplantation in rat joint. Single-cell RNA-seq of generated cartilage indicated that implanted MSOH could affect chondrocyte homeostatic state and alter the chondrocyte cluster frequency by regulating cellular glycolysis and OXPHOS, impacting cell cycle and ferroptosis to alleviate cellular senescence and prevent joint degeneration. Conclusion: Osteoarthritic cartilage defect patients demonstrated upregulated cellular senescence in joint cartilage. Senescence marker miR-24 was negatively associated with cartilage impairment in osteoarthritic CD patients. miR-24 attenuates chondrocytes senescence and promotes chondrogenesis in SMSC organoids through targeting TAOK1. Senescence-targeted miR-24 microsphere/SMSC organoid composite hydrogel could successfully repair cartilage defect in osteoarthritic microenvironment via enhanced miR-24/TAOK1 signaling pathway, suggesting MSOH might be a novel therapy for cartilage repair in osteoarthritic CD patients.

RESUMEN

Background: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of a SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine (Omicron BA.5) LVRNA012 given as the booster in immunized but SARS-CoV-2 infection-free adults in China. Methods: This is a single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 clinical trial enrolling healthy adult participants (≥18 years) who had completed two or three doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines at least 6 months before, in Bengbu, Anhui province, China. Eligible participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive a booster intramuscular vaccination with an LVRNA012 vaccine (100ug) or placebo. The primary endpoint was the protective efficacy of a booster dose of the LVRNA012 vaccine or placebo against symptomatic COVID-19 of any severity 14 days after vaccination. Laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infections were identified from 14 days to 180 days after intervention, with active surveillance for symptomatic illness 8 times per month between 7 to 90 days and at least once per month between 90 to 180 days after intervention. Results: 2615 participants were recruited and randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the vaccine group (1308) or the placebo group (1307). A total of 141 individuals (46 in the LVRNA012 group and 95 in the placebo group) developed symptomatic COVID-19 infection 14 days after the booster immunization, showing a vaccine efficacy of 51.9% (95% CI, 31.3% to 66.4%). Most infections were detected 90 days after intervention during a period when XBB was prevalent in the community. Adverse reactions were reported by 64% of participants after the LVRNA012 vaccination, but most of them were mild or moderate. The booster vaccination with the LVRNA012 mRNA vaccine could significantly enhance neutralizing antibody titers against the Omicron variant XBB.1.5 (GMT 132.3 [99.8, 175.4]) than did those in the placebo group (GMT 12.5 [8.4, 18.7]) at day 14 for the previously immunized individuals. Conclusion: The LVRNA012 mRNA vaccine is immunogenic, and shows robust efficacy in preventing COVID-19 during the omicron-predominate period. Clinical trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT05745545.

RESUMEN

This study examined the applicability of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging to assist the laparoscopic resection of retroperitoneal tumors in pediatric patients via an abdominal approach. Conducted prospectively at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center from May to September 2023, the research included three pediatric cases, for whom laparoscopic retroperitoneal tumor resections were performed utilizing ICG fluorescence imaging. In each case, ICG was intravenously administered (0.3 mg/kg) prior to surgery, enabling the visualization of vital vascular structures through real-time fluorescence imaging. The trocar's placement was guided by a "four-hole" technique from the healthy side in a 70-degree lateral decubitus position. The operations were accomplished successfully without any complications. Pathological analysis of the patients identified one case of Wilms tumor of the embryonal type, one ganglioneuroblastoma of the mature type without N-MYC gene amplification, and one mature cystic teratoma. The findings suggest that with careful patient selection and skilled surgical execution, the utilization of ICG fluorescence imaging in the laparoscopic resection of retroperitoneal tumors is both safe and effective in children. This approach significantly improves the visualization of critical blood vessels, thus enhancing surgical safety.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Paraquat (PQ) is a widely used herbicide that poisons human by accident or intentional ingestion. PQ poisoning causes systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) resulting in acute lung injury (ALI) with an extremely high mortality rate. Blood trematode Schistosoma japonicum-produced cystatin (Sj-Cys) is a strong immunomodulatory protein that has been experimentally used to treat inflammation related diseases. In this study, Sj-Cys recombinant protein (rSj-Cys) was used to treat PQ-induced lung injury and the immunological mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect was investigated. METHODS: PQ-induced acute lung injury mouse model was established by intraperitoneally injection of 20 mg/kg of paraquat. The poisoned mice were treated with rSj-Cys and the survival rate was observed up to 7 days compared with the group without treatment. The pathological changes of PQ-induced lung injury were observed by examining the histochemical sections of affected lung tissue and the wet to dry ratio of lung as a parameter for inflammation and edema. The levels of the inflammation related cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α and regulatory cytokines IL-10 and TGF-ß were measured in sera and in affected lung tissue using ELISA and their mRNA levels in lung tissue using RT-PCR. The macrophages expressing iNOS were determined as M1 and those expressing Arg-1 as M2 macrophages. The effect of rSj-Cys on the transformation of inflammatory M1 to regulatory M2 macrophages was measured in affected lung tissue in vivo (EKISA and RT-PCR) and in MH-S cell line in vitro (flow cytometry). The expression levels of TLR2 and MyD88 in affected lung tissue were also measured to determine their role in the therapy of rSj-Cys on PQ-induced lung injury. RESULT: We identified that treatment with rSj-Cys significantly improved the survival rate of mice with PQ-induced lung injury from 30 % (untreated) to 80 %, reduced the pathological damage of poisoning lung tissue, associated with significantly reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6 from 1490 to 590 pg/ml, TNF-α from 260 to 150 pg/ml) and increased regulatory cytokines (IL-10 from360 to 550 pg/ml, and TGF-ß from 220 to 410 pg/ml) in both sera (proteins) and affected lung tissue (proteins and mRNAs). The polarization of macrophages from M1to M2 type was found to be involved in the therapeutic effect of rSj-Cys on the PQ-induced acute lung injury, possibly through inhibiting TLR2/MyD88 signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated the therapeutic effect of rSj-Cys on PQ poisoning caused acute lung injury by inducing M2 macrophage polarization through inhibiting TLR2/MyD88 signaling pathway. The finding in this study provides an alternative approach for the treatment of PQ poisoning and other inflammatory diseases.

RESUMEN

As the depth of coal seam mining increases, coal and gas outburst prevention and control face unprecedented challenges. In recent years, freezing outburst prevention technology has received attention and been applied in industry; this method mainly improves the strength of the coal body while reducing its energy storage. Research has shown that due to the influence of moisture content, frost heaving occurs in coal bodies during the cooling process, weakening the coal bodies' strength. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the effect of the moisture content on the coal body frost heave. This paper uses a research method that combines laboratory experiments, theoretical analysis, and numerical simulation to study the critical moisture content of frost heaving in gas-containing coal. The results showed that the coal sample can be divided into three stages during the cooling process: the cold shrinkage stage, frost heave stage, and stabilization stage. When the moisture content is greater than 7%, as the moisture content increases, the amount of ice increases accordingly, which causes an increase in the frost heave deformation of the coal sample and produces an obvious frost heave effect. Utilizing COMSOL simulation software, the deformation of gas-containing coal samples at different moisture levels is simulated. By combining the results with laboratory measurements, the critical moisture content for the frost heave in gas-containing coal is determined to be 6.6%.

RESUMEN

The groundwater hydrodynamic and hydrochemical process of the multi-aquifer system will experience complicated and serious influence under deep coal mining disturbance. There is relatively little research that has integrated hydrodynamic and hydrochemical properties of groundwater to investigate the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and evolution patterns of hydrogeochemistry and hydrodynamic information in deep multi-aquifer systems. The study of the groundwater hydrodynamic and hydrochemical spatiotemporal coupling response of multi-aquifer systems under the deep and special thick coal seam mining-motivated effect in ecologically fragile western mining areas is of great significance for the safe mining of coal resources and ecological environment protection. In this research, the hydrochemical analysis data composed of 218 groundwater samples from Tangjiahui coalfield, Northwest China with 1526 measurements and a 6-year (2016-2021) sampling period were collected for studying the hydrogeochemical spatiotemporal evolution process and governing mechanism of the multi-aquifer system using hierarchical cluster analysis, ion-ratio method, saturation index and multidimensional statistical analysis. Additionally, wavelet analysis and cross-wavelet coherence analysis were implemented to quantitatively recognize the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of hydrodynamic information and analyze the coherence relationships between time series. The results demonstrate that the hydrochemical characteristics exhibit significant spatial differences, while the temporal variation of hydrochemical characteristics in the Permian Shanxi Formation fractured sandstone aquifer (PSFFA), mine water (MW), and Ordovician karst limestone aquifer (OKA) is not significant. The water-rock interaction is the predominant control mechanism for the spatial evolution of hydrogeochemistry in the research area. Moreover, the large-scale mining of deep coal seams controls the type and degree of water-rock interactions by damaging the structure of aquifers and altering the hydrodynamic conditions of groundwater. The period from 2016 to 2021 exhibits multi-time scale characteristics in time series of precipitation, mine water discharge, and the water level of PSFFA and OKA. The mine water discharge has a positive correlation with the water level of PSFFA and OKA, whereas the significant period of precipitation and the water level of PSFFA coherence is not obvious. The research findings not only provide in-depth insights to protect the groundwater resources in water-shortage mining areas but also promote the secure mining of deep coal resources.

RESUMEN

Non-Hermitian systems have recently attracted significant attention in photonics due to the realization that the interplay between gain and loss can lead to entirely new and unexpected features. Here, we propose and demonstrate a non-Hermitian Faraday system capable of non-reciprocal omni-polarizer action at the exceptional point. Notably, both forward and backward propagating light with arbitrary polarization converge to the same polarization state. Leveraging the robustness and non-reciprocity of the non-Hermitian Faraday system, we realize an omni-polarized Faraday isolator that can effectively isolate any polarized light without the need for a polarizer at the incident port of backward propagation. Remarkably, under the given parameter configuration, the isolator achieves a maximum isolation ratio of approximately 100 dB and a minimum isolation ratio of around 45 dB for various polarized light, accompanied by near-zero insertion loss. Furthermore, our research reveals the remarkable tolerance of the non-Hermitian Faraday isolator to nonlinear effects. This unique characteristic allows us to harness nonlinear effects to achieve various optical functions, all while maintaining excellent isolation performance. The proposed non-Hermitian Faraday system paves the way for the realization of magnetically or optically switchable non-reciprocal devices.

RESUMEN

Optical-fiber-based polarization scramblers can reduce the impact of polarization sensitive performance of various optical fiber systems. Here, we propose a simple and efficient polarization scrambler based on an all-optical Mach-Zehnder structure by combining a polarization beam splitter and an amplified fiber ring. To totally decoherence one polarization split beam, a fiber ring together with an amplifier is incorporated. The ratio of two orthogonal beams can be controlled by varying the amplification factor, and we observe different evolution trajectories of the output state of polarizations on the Poincaré sphere. When the amplification factor exceeds a certain threshold, the scrambler system exhibits nearly ideal polarization scrambling behavior. A commercial single wavelength laser with a linewidth of 3 MHz is utilized to characterize the scrambling performance. We found that when the sampling rate is 1.6 MSa/s, a scrambling speed up to 2000krad/s can be obtained for the average degree of polarization being less than 0.1. We also exploit these random polarization fluctuations to generate random binary numbers, indicating that the proposed technique is a good candidate for a random bit generator.

RESUMEN

Ozone pollution is formed through complex chemical and physical processes closely associated with emissions, photochemical reactions, and meteorological conditions. The objective of this study is to quantify the contributions of meteorological chemical formation, vertical transport, and horizontal transport to air quality during spring and summer in different regions of the Sichuan Basin. The Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) with the Integrated Process Rate (IPR) was employed to simulate the months of April and July 2021 in the Sichuan Basin. The results indicate that both the spring and summer chemical formation of ozone in the urban centre show negative values, while the surrounding urban areas contribute positively, with chemical formation ranging from 0 to 10 µg·m-3. The maximum ozone level due to horizontal transport in the urban centre exceeds 20 µg·m-3, whereas horizontal transport in the surrounding urban areas exhibits negative values, with transport contributions concentrated within the range of -5 to 0 µg·m-3. The vertical transport in the central and southern parts of the basin shows positive values, with transport contributions ranging from 0 to 10 µg·m-3, and the urban centre exhibits relatively stronger vertical transport with contributions ranging from 10 to 20 µg·m-3. Although the chemical formation contribution in the urban centre is relatively small due to high nitrogen oxide emissions, vertical and horizontal transport play significant roles and are among the key factors contributing to ozone pollution formation.

RESUMEN

Objectives: EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) is used to treat recurrent and metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rmNPC). This meta-analysis aims to study the efficacy and safety of EGFR-TKI in treating patients with rmNPC. Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science up to November 2023, and included literature that met the criteria. We extracted objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), median progression-free survival (mPFS), median overall survival (mOS), and adverse reaction-related events and performed meta-analysis using Stata 14.0. Results: A total of nine articles were included. The summary results showed that the ORR for patients treated with EGFR-TKI for rmNPC was 38% (95% CI = 27%-49%), the DCR was 71% (95% CI = 61%-80%), the mPFS was 6.29 months (95% CI = 5.22-7.35), and the mOS was 15.94 months (95% CI = 14.68-17.20). The most common grade 3-4 adverse reaction events in these patients were mucositis, nasopharyngeal necrosis, and oral ulceration. We found an incidence rate of 49% (95% CI = 38%-61%) for grade 3-4 adverse events (AEs). The anti-PD1 combined with TKI treatment method is more effective than the EGFR-TKI alone for treating rmNPC. Conclusion: The study shows that EGFR-TKI has good efficacy in treating rmNPC but does not translate into survival benefits and owns a high incidence of grade 3-4 AEs. More RCT trials are needed in the future to verify the efficacy of anti-PD1 combined with TKI treatment method.
