JOURNAL/nrgr/04.03/01300535-202501000-00035/figure1/v/2024-05-14T021156Z/r/image-tiff Our previous study found that rat bone marrow-derived neural crest cells (acting as Schwann cell progenitors) have the potential to promote long-distance nerve repair. Cell-based therapy can enhance peripheral nerve repair and regeneration through paracrine bioactive factors and intercellular communication. Nevertheless, the complex contributions of various types of soluble cytokines and extracellular vesicle cargos to the secretome remain unclear. To investigate the role of the secretome and extracellular vesicles in repairing damaged peripheral nerves, we collected conditioned culture medium from hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cells, and found that it significantly promoted the repair of sensory neurons damaged by oxygen-glucose deprivation. The mRNA expression of trophic factors was highly expressed in hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cells. We performed RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis and found that miR-21-5p was enriched in hypoxia-pretreated extracellular vesicles of neural crest cells. Subsequently, to further clarify the role of hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cell extracellular vesicles rich in miR-21-5p in axonal growth and regeneration of sensory neurons, we used a microfluidic axonal dissociation model of sensory neurons in vitro, and found that hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cell extracellular vesicles promoted axonal growth and regeneration of sensory neurons, which was greatly dependent on loaded miR-21-5p. Finally, we constructed a miR-21-5p-loaded neural conduit to repair the sciatic nerve defect in rats and found that the motor and sensory functions of injured rat hind limb, as well as muscle tissue morphology of the hind limbs, were obviously restored. These findings suggest that hypoxia-pretreated neural crest extracellular vesicles are natural nanoparticles rich in miRNA-21-5p. miRNA-21-5p is one of the main contributors to promoting nerve regeneration by the neural crest cell secretome. This helps to explain the mechanism of action of the secretome and extracellular vesicles of neural crest cells in repairing damaged peripheral nerves, and also promotes the application of miR-21-5p in tissue engineering regeneration medicine.

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are typical persistent organic pollutants, and their removal is urgently required but challenging. Photocatalysis has shown potential in PFASs degradation due to the redox capabilities of photoinduced charge carriers in photocatalysts. Herein, hexagonal ZnIn2S4 (ZIS) nanosheets were synthesized by a one-pot oil bath method and were well characterized by a series of techniques. In the degradation of sodium p-perfluorous nonenoxybenzenesulfonate (OBS), one kind of representative PFASs, the as-synthesized ZIS showed activity superior to P25 TiO2 under both simulated sunlight and visible-light irradiation. The good photocatalytic performance was attributed to the enhanced light absorption and facilitated charge separation. The pH conditions were found crucial in the photocatalytic process by influencing the OBS adsorption on the ZIS surface. Photogenerated e- and h+ were the main active species involved in OBS degradation in the ZIS system. This work confirmed the feasibility and could provide mechanistic insights into the degradation and defluorination of PFASs by visible-light photocatalysis.

Cytochromes P450 monooxygenases (CYP450s) constitute the largest enzymic protein family that is widely present in plants, animals, and microorganisms, participate in numerous metabolic pathways, and play diverse roles in development, metabolism, and defense. Rapeseed (Brassica napus) is an important oil crop worldwide and have many versions of reference genome. However, there is no systemically comparative genome-wide analysis of CYP450 family genes in rapeseed and its parental species B. rapa and B. oleracea. In this study, we identified 765, 293 and 437 CYP450 genes in B. napus, B. rapa and B. oleracea, respectively, which were unevenly located in A01-A10 and/or C01-C09 chromosomes in corresponding species. Phylogenetic relationship analysis indicated that 1745 CYP450 proteins from three Brassica species and Arabidopsis were divided into 4 groups. Whole genome duplication (WGD) or segmental duplication resulted in gene expansion of CYP450 family in three Brassica species. There were 33-83 SSR loci in CYP450 genes of three Brassica species, and numerous transcription factor binding sites were identified in their promoters. A total of 459-777 miRNAs were predicted to target 174-426 CYP450 genes in three Brassica species. Based on transcriptome data, BnCYP450s, BrCYP450s and BoCYP450s were differentially expressed in various tissues. There existed numerous BnCYP450 DEGs in response to pathogens and abiotic stresses. Besides, many BnCYP450 DEGs were involved in the regulation of important traits, such as seed germination, seed ALA content, and yellow-seed. The qRT-PCR experiment confirmed the transcriptome analysis results by validating two representative Sclerotinia-responsive BnCYP450 DEGs as an example. Three BnCYP450s genes (CYP707A1, CYP81F1, CYP81H1) might be regulated by seed-specific transcription factors BnTT1 and BnbZIP67 to participate in the development and metabolism of seed coat and embryo by undertaking related metabolic reactions.

Four isocoumarin derivatives (1-4) and five phenols (5-9) were obtained from the endophytic fungus Pezicula neosporulosa VDB39, which was isolated from the branches of Vaccinium dunalianum Wight (Ericaceae). Compound 1 is a new derivative of isocoumarin. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Single X-ray crystallography confirmed the absolute configuration of compound 1. Additionally, the antiphytopathogenic fungi activity of isocoumarin derivatives (1-4) was evaluated.

Cerebral small vascular disease (CSVD) has a high incidence worldwide, but its pathological mechanisms remain poorly understood due to the lack of proper animal models. The current animal models of CSVD have several limitations such as high mortality rates and large-sized lesions, and thus it is urgent to develop new animal models of CSVD. Ultrasound can activate protoporphyrin to produce reactive oxygen species in a liquid environment. Here we delivered protoporphyrin into cerebral small vessels of rat brain through polystyrene microspheres with a diameter of 15 µm, and then performed transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) on the model rats. We found that TUS did not affect the large vessels or cause large infarctions in the brain of model rats. The mortality rates were also comparable between the sham and model rats. Strikingly, TUS induced several CSVD-like phenotypes such as cerebral microinfarction, white matter injuries and impaired integrity of endothelial cells in the model rats. Additionally, these effects could be alleviated by antioxidant treatment with N-acetylcysteine (NAC). As control experiments, TUS did not lead to cerebral microinfarction in the rat brain when injected with the polystyrene microspheres not conjugated with protoporphyrin. In sum, we generated a rat model of CSVD that may be useful for the mechanistic study and drug development for CSVD.

Hydrothermal cracking involves the conversion of organic waste into efficient fertilizer through hydrolysis at temperatures ranging from 180 to 220 °C and pressures of 1.5 to 2.45 MPa, which offers significant advantages in shortening the production cycle, enhancing efficiency, and decomposing antibiotics. As a result, it holds immense practical value for promoting organic fertilizer manufacturing processes globally. The products derived from hydrothermal cracking can be categorized into solid and liquid components. Extensive research has focused on the composition and use of solids, while studies on liquids have mainly examined basic characteristics. The study aimed to comprehensively analyze the components in liquid products prepared through hydrothermal cracking and evaluate their suitability as liquid fertilizers. Specifically, we employed rigorous analytical techniques to accurately identify and quantify medium and trace elements, organic acids, amino acids, and plant growth regulators. Furthermore, we carried out a planting experiment to assess the yield and soil changes following the application of liquid products in maize cultivation. The experimental data revealed that the liquid product contained abundant medium and trace elements, along with 6.22 g/L free amino acids and 9.22 g/L organic acids. It is noteworthy that this liquid product contained 1.22 × 105 pg/ml ABA, 6.26 × 103 pg/ml IAA, 1.07 × 102 pg/ml IBA, and 3.60 × 10-2 pg/ml GA3. The utilization of this liquid product has the potential to enhance the disease resistance of maize crops and promote the accumulation of nitrate nitrogen in the soil. By understanding the composition of liquid products via hydrothermal cracking, valuable insights can be gained into their potential benefits for agricultural and ecological applications.

BACKGROUND: Patients with skeletal angle Class III malocclusion usually have inadequate hard and soft tissue volume at the mandibular anterior teeth. The labial proclination at the teeth may lead to gingival recession. The purpose of this study was to explore whether periodontal phenotype modification therapy with soft tissue augmentation (PhMT-s) can prevent gingival recession in these patients. METHODS: Four patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and a thin periodontal phenotype underwent surgical-orthodontic treatment. Prior to tooth movement, they underwent a minimally invasive vestibular incision with subperiosteal tunnel access combined with autogenous connective tissue grafts for periodontal phenotype modification with soft tissue augmentation (PhMT-s). The labial gingival thickness of the anterior mandibular teeth was measured at three distinct levels: at the cementoenamel junction (GT0), 3 mm apical to the CEJ (GT3), and 6 mm apical to the CEJ (GT6). These measurements were taken at baseline, three months following PhMT-s, and after tooth decompensation. Additionally, a biopsy sample was obtained from the PhMT-s site of one patient. All sections were subsequently stained using hematoxylin and eosin, Masson trichrome, Sirius Red, and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The thickness of the labial gingiva was increased about 0.42 to 2.00 mm after PhMT-s. At the end of pre-orthognathic surgical orthodontic treatment, the thickness of the labial gingiva was increased about - 0.14 to 1.32 mm compared to the baseline and no gingival recession occurred after the pre-orthognathic surgical orthodontic treatment. The histologic results demonstrated that the grafts obtained from the PhMT-s site exhibited increased deposition of collagen fibers. Moreover, the proportion of type III collagen increased and the grafts displayed significantly reduced positive expression of CD31 and OCN. CONCLUSIONS: PhMT-s increased the thickness of the soft tissue, stabilizing the gingival margin for teeth exhibiting a thin periodontal phenotype and undergoing labial movement. This is attributed to the increased deposition of collagen fibers.

In modern agriculture, Controlled environment agriculture (CEA) stands out as a contemporary production mode that leverages precise control over environmental conditions such as nutrient, temperature, light, and other factors to achieve efficient and high-quality agricultural production. Numerous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of manipulating these environmental factors in the short period before harvest to enhance crop yield and quality in CEA. This comprehensive review aims to provide insight into various pre-harvest practices employed in CEA, including nutrient deprivation, nutrient supply, manipulation of the light environment, and the application of exogenous hormones, with the objective of improving yield and quality in horticultural crops. Additionally, we propose an intelligent pre-harvest management system to cultivate high-quality horticultural crops. This system integrates sensor technology, data analysis, and intelligent control, enabling the customization of specific pre-harvest strategies based on producers' requirements. The envisioned pre-harvest intelligent system holds the potential to enhance crop quality, increase yield, reduce resource wastage, and offer innovative ideas and technical support for the sustainable development of CEA.

PURPOSE: To judge the injury mode and injury severity of the real human body through the measured values of anthropomorphic test devices (ATD) injury indices, the mapping relationship of lumbar injury between ATD and human body model (HBM) was explored. METHODS: Through the ATD model and HBM simulation, the mapping relationship of lumbar injury between the 2 subjects was explored. The sled environment consisted of a semi-rigid seat with an adjustable seatback angle and a 3-point seat belt system with a seatback-mounted D-ring. Three seatback recline states of 25°, 45°, and 65° were designed, and the seat pan angle was maintained at 15°. A 23 g, 47 km/h pulse was used. The validity of the finite element model of the sled was verified by the comparison of ATD simulation and test results. ATD model was the test device for human occupant restraint for autonomous vehicles (THOR-AV) dummy model and HBM was the total human model for safety (THUMS) v6.1. The posture of the 2 models was adjusted to adapt to the 3 seat states. The lumbar response of THOR-AV and the mechanical and biomechanical data on L1-L5 vertebrae of THUMS were output, and the response relationship between THOR-AV and THUMS was descriptive statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Both THOR-AV and THUMS were submarined in the 65° seatback angle case. With the change of seatback angle, the lumbar spine axial compression force (Fz) of THOR-AV and THUMS changed in the similar trend. The maximum Fz ratio of THOR-AV to THUMS at 25° and 45° seatback angle cases were 1.6 and 1.7. The flexion moment (My) and the time when the maximum My occurred in the 2 subjects were very different. In particular, the form of moment experienced by the L1 - L5 vertebrae of THUMS also changed. The changing trend of My measured by THOR-AV over time can reflect the changing trend of maximum stress of L1 and L2 of THUMS. CONCLUSION: The Fz of ATD and HBM presents a certain proportional relationship, and there is a mapping relationship between the 2 subjects on Fz. The mapping function can be further clarified by applying more pulses and adopting more seatback angles. It is difficult to map My directly because they are very different in ATD and HBM. The My of ATD and stress of HBM lumbar showed a similar change trend over time, and there may be a hidden mapping relationship.

OBJECTIVE: Sakurasosaponin, a primary bioactive saponin from Aegiceras corniculatum, shows potential as an anti-cancer agent. However, there is a lack of information on its in vivo metabolism. This study aims to profile the in vivo metabolites of sakurasosaponin in rat feces, urine, and plasma after oral administration. An efficient strategy using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry was developed, which combined metabolic prediction, multiple mass defects filtering, and highresolution extracted ion chromatograms for rapid and systematic analysis. METHODS: Firstly, a theoretical list of metabolites for sakurasosaponin was developed. This was done by considering the metabolic pathways of saponins. Next, the multiple mass defects filtering method was employed to identify potential metabolites in feces and urine, using the unique metabolites of sakurasosaponin as multiple mass defects filtering templates. Subsequently, a high-resolution extracted ion chromatogram was used to quickly determine the metabolites in rat plasma post-identification in feces and urine. Lastly, the analysis of accurate mass, typical neutral loss, and diagnostic ion of the candidate metabolites was carried out to confirm their structural elucidation, and metabolic pathways of sakurasosaponin in vivo were also proposed. RESULTS: In total, 30 metabolites were provisionally identified in feces, urine, and plasma. Analysis of metabolic pathways revealed isomerization, deglycosylation, oxidation, hydroxylation, sulfate conjugation, glucuronide conjugation, and other related reactions as the primary biotransformation reactions of sakurasosaponin in vivo. CONCLUSION: The findings demonstrate that the designed research strategy effectively minimizes matrix interference, prevents the omission of low-concentration metabolites, and serves as a foundation for the discovery of active metabolites of sakurasosaponin.

OBJECTIVES: Accurate survival predictions and early interventional therapy are crucial for people with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). METHODS: In this retrospective study, we identified differentially expressed immune-related (DE-IRGs) and oncogenic (DE-OGs) genes from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset to construct a prognostic risk model using univariate Cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis. We compared the immunogenomic characterization between the high- and low-risk patients in the TCGA and the PUCH cohort, including the immune cell infiltration level, immune score, immune checkpoint, and T-effector cell- and interferon (IFN)-γ-related gene expression. RESULTS: A prognostic risk model was constructed based on 9 DE-IRGs and 3 DE-OGs and validated in the training and testing TCGA datasets. The high-risk group exhibited significantly poor overall survival compared with the low-risk group in the training (P < 0.0001), testing (P = 0.016), and total (P < 0.0001) datasets. The prognostic risk model provided accurate predictive value for ccRCC prognosis in all datasets. Decision curve analysis revealed that the nomogram showed the best net benefit for the 1-, 3-, and 5-year risk predictions. Immunogenomic analyses of the TCGA and PUCH cohorts showed higher immune cell infiltration levels, immune scores, immune checkpoint, and T-effector cell- and IFN-γ-related cytotoxic gene expression in the high-risk group than in the low-risk group. CONCLUSION: The 12-gene prognostic risk model can reliably predict overall survival outcomes and is strongly associated with the tumor immune microenvironment of ccRCC.

Serine protease 50 (PRSS50/TSP50) is highly expressed in spermatocytes. Our study investigated its role in testicular development and spermatogenesis. Initially, PRSS50 knockdown was observed to impair DNA synthesis in spermatocytes. To further explore this, we generated PRSS50 knockout ( Prss50 -/- ) mice ( Mus musculus), which exhibited abnormal spermatid nuclear compression and reduced male fertility. Furthermore, dysplastic seminiferous tubules and decreased sex hormones were observed in 4-week-old Prss50 -/- mice, accompanied by meiotic progression defects and increased apoptosis of spermatogenic cells. Mechanistic analysis indicated that PRSS50 deletion resulted in increased phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2) and elevated levels of MAP kinase phosphatase 3 (MKP3), a specific ERK antagonist, potentially accounting for testicular dysplasia in adolescent Prss50 -/- mice. Taken together, these findings suggest that PRSS50 plays an important role in testicular development and spermatogenesis, with the MKP3/ERK signaling pathway playing a significant role in this process.

BACKGROUND: Sirolimus is increasingly utilized in treating diseases associated with mTOR pathway overactivation. Despite its potential, the lack of evidence regarding its long-term safety across all age groups, particularly in pediatric patients, has limited its further application. This study aims to assess the long-term safety of sirolimus, with a specific focus on its impact on growth patterns in pediatric patients. METHODS: This pooled analysis inlcudes two prospective cohort studies spanning 10 years, including 1,738 participants (aged 5 days to 69 years) diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis and/or lymphangioleiomyomatosis. All participants were mTOR inhibitor-naive and received 1 mg/m²/day of sirolimus, with dose adjustments during a two-week titration period to maintain trough blood concentrations between 5 and 10 ng/ml (maximum dose 2 mg). Indicators of physical growth, hematopoietic, liver, renal function, and blood lipid levels were all primary outcomes and were analyzed. The adverse events and related management were also recorded. RESULTS: Sirolimus administration did not lead to deviations from normal growth ranges, but higher doses exhibited a positive association with Z-scores exceeding 2 SD in height, weight, and BMI. Transient elevations in red blood cell and white blood cell counts, along with hyperlipidemia, were primarily observed within the first year of treatment. Other measured parameters remained largely unchanged, displaying only weak correlations with drug use. Stomatitis is the most common adverse event (920/1738, 52.9%). In adult females, menstrual disorders were observed in 48.5% (112/217). CONCLUSIONS: Sirolimus's long-term administration is not associated with adverse effects on children's physical growth pattern, nor significant alterations in hematopoietic, liver, renal function, or lipid levels. Phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (PC-WLEDs) have attracted considerable attention in solid-state lighting and display. However, urgent issues of thermal quenching and high cost remain formidable challenges. Herein, a novel metal-organic framework (MOF) phosphor [CdCl2(AD)] was facilely prepared using a mixture of CdCl2 and acridine (AD) under solvothermal conditions. It shows intensive green emission with a long lifetime of 31.88 ns and quantum yield of 65% while maintaining 95% and 84% of its initial emission intensity after remaining immersed in water for 60 days and being heated to 150 °C, respectively. The low thermal quenching of this MOF material is comparable to or can even exceed that of commercial inorganic phosphors. The combination of experiments and theoretical calculations reveals that the alternating arrangement of delocalized AD π-conjugated systems and CdCl2 inorganic chains through strong coordination bonds and π⋯π stacking interactions imparts the MOF phosphor with high thermal stability and optoelectronic performance. The successful fabrication of green and white LED devices by coating [CdCl2(AD)] and/or N630 red phosphor on a 365/460 nm commercial diode chip suggests a promising and potential alternative to commercial phosphors.

Background and Aims: The hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a zoonotic disease, and infection with HEV in humans primarily causes acute infections and can progress to chronic manifestation in immunocompromised individuals. Over the past decade, guidelines for diagnosing and treating HEV infection have been developed. This study aimed to systematically assess the quality of current guidelines for diagnosing and treating HEV infection, and we analyzed the differences in guideline quality and primary recommendations and explored possible reasons for these differences. Methods: Guidelines published between 2013 and 2022 were searched, and studies were identified using selection criteria. The study assessed the quality of the included guidelines using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation tool, extracted the primary recommendations in the guidelines, determined the highest level of evidence supporting the recommendations, and reclassified the evidence using the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine grading system. Results: Seven guidelines were included in the final analysis. The quality of the guidelines varied widely. The discrepancies may have been caused by the lack of external experts, the failure to consider influencing factors in guideline application, and the lack of consideration of the public's opinion. Analysis of the heterogeneity in primary recommendations revealed differences in algorithms for managing chronic HEV infection, the dosage of ribavirin, and a low level of evidence supporting the primary recommendations. Conclusions: Guideline quality and primary recommendations vary considerably. Refinement by guideline developers and researchers would facilitate updating and applying guidelines for diagnosing and treating HEV infection.

Introduction: Wet contamination was a common problem of peritoneal dialysis (PD) system. We developed a management algorithm for wet contamination of PD system (wet contamination) on the basis of the related research literature and clinical practice experience. The purpose of this study was to observe clinical effect of the management algorithm on the prevention of peritonitis. Methods: Patients treated wet contamination in a single PD center between October 2017 and September 2022 were included. A management algorithm was established to treat wet contamination. It comprised identification of the contamination type, addressing contaminated or aging catheters, prophylactic antibiotics, and retraining. Demographic data and clinical data about wet contamination were collected and compared. Results: One hundred and forty-one cases of wet contamination were included in this study. The mean age was 51.7 ± 14.1 years, and 49.6% were female. The proportion of diabetic nephropathy was 9.9%. The median PD duration was 27.0 (1.7-79.7) months. Eighteen episodes (12.8%) of wet contamination-associated peritonitis developed after wet contamination. The main pathogenic bacteria of peritonitis were Gram-positive bacteria (33.3%) and Gram-negative bacteria (27.8%). The incidence of wet contamination-associated peritonitis in the compliance with the management algorithm group was significantly lower than that in the non-compliance with the management algorithm group (0.9 vs. 48.6%; p < 0.001). Non-compliance with management algorithm (OR = 185.861, p < 0.001) together with advance age (OR = 1.116, p < 0.001) and longer distance from home to hospital (OR = 1.007, p < 0.001) were independent risk factors for wet contamination-associated peritonitis. Conclusion: The management algorithm for wet contamination of PD system could reduce the risk of peritonitis.

Our previous study shows that activation of pregnane X receptor (PXR) exerts hepatoprotection against lithocholic acid (LCA)-induced cholestatic liver injury. In this study we investigated whether PXR activation could inhibit hepatocyte pyroptosis, as well as the underlying mechanisms. Male mice were treated with mouse PXR agonist pregnenolone 16α-carbonitrile (PCN, 50 mg·kg-1·d-1, i.p.) for 7 days, and received LCA (125 mg/kg, i.p., bid) from D4, then sacrificed 12 h after the last LCA injection. We showed that LCA injection resulted in severe cholestatic liver injury characterized by significant increases in gallbladder size, hepatocellular necrosis, and neutrophil infiltration with a mortality rate of 68%; PCN treatment significantly inhibited hepatocyte pyroptosis during LCA-induced cholestatic liver injury, as evidenced by reduced serum lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, TUNEL-positive cells and hepatocyte membrane damage. Furthermore, PXR activation suppressed both the NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome-induced canonical pyroptosis and the apoptosis protease activating factor-1 (APAF-1) pyroptosome-induced non-canonical pyroptosis. Inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and forkhead box O1 (FOXO1) signaling pathways was also observed following PXR activation. Notably, dual luciferase reporter assay showed that PXR activation inhibited the transcriptional effects of NF-κB on NLRP3, as well as FOXO1 on APAF-1. Our results demonstrate that PXR activation protects against cholestatic liver injury by inhibiting the canonical pyroptosis through the NF-κB-NLRP3 axis and the non-canonical pyroptosis through the FOXO1-APAF-1 axis, providing new evidence for PXR as a prospective anti-cholestatic target.

Objective: To develop a model that integrates radiomics features and clinical factors to predict upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Methods: 104 decompensated cirrhosis patients with UGIB and 104 decompensated cirrhosis patients without UGIB were randomized according to a 7:3 ratio into a training cohort (n = 145) and a validation cohort (n = 63). Radiomics features of the abdominal skeletal muscle area (SMA) were extracted from the cross-sectional image at the largest level of the third lumbar vertebrae (L3) on the abdominal unenhanced multi-detector computer tomography (MDCT) images. Clinical-radiomics nomogram were constructed by combining a radiomics signature (Rad score) with clinical independent risk factors associated with UGIB. Nomogram performance was evaluated in calibration, discrimination, and clinical utility. Results: The radiomics signature was built using 11 features. Plasma prothrombin time (PT), sarcopenia, and Rad score were independent predictors of the risk of UGIB in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. The clinical-radiomics nomogram performed well in both the training cohort (AUC, 0.902; 95% CI, 0.850-0.954) and the validation cohort (AUC, 0.858; 95% CI, 0.762-0.953) compared with the clinical factor model and the radiomics model and displayed excellent calibration in the training cohort. Decision curve analysis (DCA) demonstrated that the predictive efficacy of the clinical-radiomics nomogram model was superior to that of the clinical and radiomics model. Conclusion: Clinical-radiomics nomogram that combines clinical factors and radiomics features has demonstrated favorable predictive effects in predicting the occurrence of UGIB in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. This helps in early diagnosis and treatment of the disease, warranting further exploration and research.

Nature provides us with a wealth of inspiration for the design of bionic functional surfaces. Numerous types of plant leaves with exceptional wettability, anisotropy, and adhesion are extensively employed in many engineering applications. Inspired by the wettability, anisotropy, and adhesion of indocalamus leaves, bionic upper and lower surfaces (BUSs and BLSs) of the indocalamus leaf were successfully prepared using a facile approach combining laser scanning and chemical modification. The results demonstrated the BUSs and BLSs obtained similar structural features to the upper and lower surfaces of the indocalamus leaf and exhibited enhanced and more-controllable wettability, anisotropy, and adhesion. More importantly, we conducted a detailed comparative analysis of the wettability, anisotropy, and adhesion between BUSs and BLSs. Finally, BUSs and BLSs were also explored for the corresponding potential applications, including self-cleaning, liquid manipulation, and fog collection, thereby broadening their practical utility. We believe that this study can contribute to the enrichment of the research on novel biological models and provide significant insights into the development of multifunctional bionic surfaces.
