BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare fibroblastic mesenchymal tumor that mostly involves the pleura and infrequently involves extra-pleural sites. De novo SFT of the kidney is uncommon, and malignant SFT is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 51-year-old man with a large malignant SFT in the left kidney. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of SFT based on typical morphology, nuclear STAT6 expression, and NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion. The malignant subtype was determined by a large tumor size (≥ 15 cm) and high mitotic counts (8/10 high-power fields). KRAS mutation was identified by DNA sequencing. Insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) was diffusely and strongly expressed in tumor cells, however, hypoglycemia was not observed. Hyperglycemia and high adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) concentration were observed one month after surgery. Hormone measurements revealed normal blood cortisol and aldosterone levels, and increased urinary free cortisol level. A pituitary microadenoma was identified using brain magnetic resonance imaging, which may be responsible for the promotion of hyperglycemia. CONCLUSIONS: We report a case of renal malignant SFT with a KRAS mutation, which was previously unreported in SFT and may be associated with its malignant behavior. Additionally, we emphasize that malignant SFT commonly causes severe hypoglycemia due to the production of IGF2. However, this effect may be masked by the presence of other lesions that promote hyperglycemia. Therefore, when encountering a malignant SFT with diffuse and strong IGF2 expression and without hypoglycemia, other lesions promoting hyperglycemia need to be ruled out.

Fat-forming solitary fibrous tumor is a rare and specific subtype of solitary fibrous tumor. In this case, a mass of 8.3 cm in diameter was found in a 59-year-old male patient's right retroperitoneum, as revealed by abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) images. The tumor exhibited a well-circumscribed nature and histological features characterized by a combination of hemangiopericytomatous vasculature and mature adipose tissue, comprising around 70% of the total tumor composition. Immunohistochemistry staining revealed diffuse positive expression of STAT6 and CD34 in the tumor cells. Based on these findings, the final diagnosis was determined to be a fat-forming solitary fibrous tumor located in the retroperitoneum. It is important to consider other potential differential diagnoses, including angiomyolipoma, dedifferentiated liposarcoma, spindle cell lipoma, and atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are known for their heterogeneous morphology, characterized by a variety of cell shapes and different growth patterns. They can also arise in various anatomical locations, most commonly in extremities and deep soft tissues. Despite this diversity in morphology and location, all SFTs share a common molecular signature involving the NAB2::STAT6 gene fusion. Due to their unpredictable clinical behavior, establishing prognostic factors is crucial. This study aims to evaluate an orbital risk stratification system (RSS) proposed by Huang et al. for use in extraorbital SFTs using a database of 97 cases. The Huang model takes into consideration tumor size, mitotic figures, Ki-67 index, and dominant constituent cell (DCC) as key variables. Survival analysis confirmed the model's predictive value, with higher-risk scores being associated with poorer outcomes. However, in contrast to the orbital SFTs studied by Huang et al., our study did not find a correlation between tumor size and recurrence in extraorbital cases. While the Huang model performs slightly better than other RSS, it falls short on achieving statistical significance in distinguishing recurrence risk groups in extraorbital locations. In conclusion, this study validates the Huang RSS for use in extraorbital SFTs and underscores the importance of considering DCC, mitotic count, and Ki-67 together. However, we found that including tumor size in this model did not improve prognostic significance in extraorbital SFTs. Despite the benefits of this additional RSS, vigilant monitoring remains essential, even in cases classified as low-risk due to the inherent unpredictability of SFT clinical outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumours are rare. The aim of this study is to describe the clinical features, therapy and outcome of affected patients and to identify factors associated with recurrence. METHODS: Retrospective study of a cohort of 20 patients who underwent surgery for orbital solitary fibrous tumour at the University Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery between 2002 and 2023. Demographic, clinical, and therapeutic data as well as tumour follow-up results were collected. Tumour volume and molecular genetic mutations were retrospectively determined. RESULTS: The median patient age was 49.5 years at initial surgery. The left orbit was affected in 65% of cases. The most common clinical symptom was proptosis (80%). This was reported with a mean lateral difference of 3.9 mm (range: 1 - 10 mm). The tumours were localised predominantly in the intra- and extraconal space, craniolateral quadrant and middle third. The median tumour volume was 7.66 cm³ (range 2.15 - 12.57 cm³). In all patients, the diagnosis was made by pathological examination. All tumours investigated showed a NAB2-STAT6 mutation. The most frequently detected mutation was the fusion NAB2 exon 4 - STAT6 exon 2. All patients were initially managed with frontolateral orbitotomy. Incomplete resection (R1-status) occurred in 35% (n = 7). The recurrence rate was 25% (n = 5), with a median disease-free interval of 45.5 months (range 23 - 130). 80% (n = 4) of recurrences were initially R1-resected. CONCLUSION: Orbital solitary fibrous tumours are rare tumours and are clinically manifested by signs of displacement of orbital structures. Diagnosis is made by histology and immunohistochemistry and can be proven with the molecular genetic detection of the NAB2-STAT6 mutation. The therapy of choice is complete surgical resection. R1-resection is more likely in the intraconal location as well as in location in the posterior third of the orbit - due to difficult surgical accessibility. The greatest risk factor for the development of recurrence is incomplete surgical excision. Late recurrences are possible, which is why a long-term connection to a specialised clinic is necessary.

Solitary fibrous tumor/Hemangiopericytoma (SFT/HPC) is a rare subtype of soft tissue sarcoma harboring NAB2-STAT6 gene fusions. Mechanistic studies and therapeutic development on SFT/HPC are impeded by scarcity and lack of system models. In this study, we established and characterized a novel SFT/HPC patient-derived cell line (PDC), SFT-S1, and screened for potential drug candidates that could be repurposed for the treatment of SFT/HPC. Immunohistochemistry profiles of the PDC was consistent with the patient's tumor sample (CD99+/CD34+/desmin-). RNA sequencing, followed by Sanger sequencing confirmed the pathognomonic NAB2exon3-STAT6exon18 fusion in both the PDC and the original tumor. Transcriptomic data showed strong enrichment for oncogenic pathways (epithelial-mesenchymal transition, FGF, EGR1 and TGFß signaling pathways) in the tumor. Whole genome sequencing identified potentially pathogenic somatic variants such as MAGEA10 and ABCA2. Among a panel of 14 targeted agents screened, dasatinib was identified to be the most potent small molecule inhibitor against the PDC (IC50, 473 nM), followed by osimertinib (IC50, 730 nM) and sunitinib (IC50, 1765 nM). Methylation profiling of the tumor suggests that this specific variant of SFT/HPC could lead to genome-wide hypomethylation. In conclusion, we established a novel PDC model of SFT/HPC with comprehensive characterization of its genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic landscape, which can facilitate future preclinical studies of SFT/HPC, such as in vitro drug screening and in vivo drug testing.

Sinonasal glomangiopericytoma is an uncommon mesenchymal tumor with a perivascular myoid phenotype, which is categorized as a borderline/low-grade malignant soft tissue tumor by the current World Health Organization Classification of Head and Neck tumors. Here, we present the case of a 53-year-old woman with an unusual spindle cell morphology of sinonasal glomangiopericytoma arising in the nasal cavity, mimicking solitary fibrous tumor. Microscopically, the tumor showed a cellular proliferation of spindle cells in fascicles including a focal long sweeping arrangement or whorls, or with a storiform growth pattern, associated with hemangiopericytoma-like gaping blood vessels embedded in a fibrous stroma. This arrangement of the spindle cells faintly indicated a solitary fibrous tumor rather than sinonasal glomangiopericytoma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor was positively reactive to not only beta-catenin (in the nuclei) but also CD34, although signal transducers and activators of transcription 6 was negative. Mutational analysis using Sanger sequencing detected a CTNNB1 mutation. We finally diagnosed the tumor as a sinonasal glomangiopericytoma, showing an unusual spindle cell variant. Such unusual spindle cell morphology with CD34-immunoreactivity potentially leads to an incorrect diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor because such prominent fascicles including long sweeping structures, reminiscent of desmoid-type fibromatosis, have scarcely been described in the literature. Hence, careful morphological scrutiny using appropriate diagnostic adjuncts is necessary for correct diagnosis.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal tumors with unpredictable evolution and with a recurrence or metastasis rate of 10-40%. Current medical treatments for relapsed SFTs remain ineffective. Here, we identify potential therapeutic targets and risk factors, including IDH1 p.R132S, high PD-L1 expression, and predominant macrophage infiltration, suggesting the potential benefits of combinational immune therapy and targeted therapy for SFTs. An integrated risk model incorporating mitotic count, density of Ki-67+ cells and CD163+ cells, MTOR mutation is developed, applying a discovery cohort of 101 primary non-CNS patients with negative tumor margins (NTM) and validated in three independent cohorts of 210 SFTs with the same criteria, and in 36 primary CNS SFTs with NTM. Compared with the existing models, our model shows significantly improved efficacy in identifying high-risk primary non-CNS and CNS SFTs with NTM for tumor progression.Our findings hold promise for advancing therapeutic strategies and refining risk prediction in SFTs.

Solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma (SFT/HPC) is a rare primary central nervous system (CNS) tumor, included in the World Health Organization (WHO) 2016 classification. Very few cases have been described in the literature so far, especially the infantile type. It is a mesenchymal tumor of the fibroblastic type, characterized by the fusion of NAB 2 and STAT 6 genes. A 10-month-old boy presented to our neurosurgery department with complaints of increasing head circumference since 1 month of age. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a space-occupying lesion measuring 8.2 cm × 7 cm × 6.9 cm in the fronto-temporo-parietal region with a clinical diagnosis of glioma/atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (ATRT). The microscopy revealed a spindle cell tumor arranged in a patternless pattern with variable cellularity, increased mitosis, and areas of coagulative necrosis. The immunohistochemistry showed vimentin, CD 34, STAT6, CD99 positivity whereas Glial fibrillary acidic protein, Epithelial membrane antigen, and S-100 negativity. Hence, a diagnosis of anaplastic SFT/HPC (grade-III) was rendered. The patient improved after gross total resection (GTR). The primary intracranial congenital SFT/HPC are extremely rare, often a clinico-radiologically misdiagnosed entity. Thus, the immunohistochemistry/molecular study in addition to histology is mandatory for accurate diagnosis.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that is diagnosed through the detection of the NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene. SFT rarely progresses to malignant tumors; however, metastasis is exhibited in approximately 20% of patients with SFT. In this study, we found that chitinase 3-like 1 (CHI3L1), which induces cancer cell migration, was upregulated in NIH-3T3 cells that were transfected with the NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene. Moreover, the expression levels of the migration markers MMP2 and MMP9 were increased and the p-Akt level was also upregulated. In addition, it was observed that when CHI3L1 siRNA was transfected into NAB2-STAT6-transfected cells, cell migration and proliferation were reduced. Therefore, this study demonstrated that CHI3L1 activates Akt signaling to induce cell migration.

Intracranial meningeal solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) originating from mesenchymal tissue are much less common than those with lesions of the visceral pleura or liver and were isolated as a nosological form only in 1996. These tumors are identical in clinical manifestations, MRI and light microscopy data to meningiomas. The pathognomonic difference of SFT, according to the 5th edition of the WHO classification, is the detection of overexpression of the protein encoded by the STAT6 gene. Estimation of other immunohistochemical markers is variable. At the same time, SFT has a tendency to more frequent recurrence and delayed malignancy. Transitional forms are possible. To form a clearer nosological outline of the SFT, it is necessary to accumulate clinical observations. A case of a giant meningioma of the posterior cranial fossa, which recurred 18 years after total removal at a 5-year annual control, is presented. Light microscopy of both primary and recurrent tumors revealed fibrous meningioma (WHO GI). Immunohistochemically revealed diffuse overexpression of CD34 and CD99. Determining the expression of the STAT6 protein was not technically possible. This case is regarded as a meningioma of the posterior surface of the pyramid of the temporal bone, growing into the cavity of the IV ventricle, with late recurrence without malignancy, with specific immunohistochemical profile.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare type of mesenchymal lesion with variable clinical presentation in which specific clinicopathologic factors have been related to patient outcome. SFT shares an important morphologic and immunohistochemical overlap with other sarcomas, hence the differential diagnosis is challenging. Although molecular studies provide significant clues, especially in the differential diagnosis with other neoplasms, a thorough hematoxylin and eosin analysis and the integration of phenotypical, clinical, and radiological features remain an essential tool in SFT diagnosis. In this review, we discuss some emerging issues still under debate in SFT.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinicopathological features of solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) of the lung. METHODS: We collected the clinical data of 52 patients with SFTs of the lung confirmed by pathology, and summarized the clinical, radiological, and morphological features, the immunophenotypes, and the prognosis of SFTs. RESULTS: Fifty-two cases of SFTs of the lung were enrolled in this study, including 51 cases of borderline and 1 case of malignancy, 22 males and 30 females. The average onset age was 52.7 years. The lower lobe of the left lung was the preferred site of SFTs, accounting for 30.77% (16/52). Chest CT showed regular and well-demarcated soft tissue density mass, and the tumor size of most cases (46/52, 88.46%) was 1-10 cm. Morphological features: The distribution of tumor cells showed sparse and dense areas. Tumor cells were spindle-shaped, in whorls or hemangiopericytoma-like conformation. Atypia, mitotic figures, and necrosis were found. Immunohistochemistry showed positive expression of CD34, STAT6, Vimentin, BCL2, and CD99. Ki-67 was ≤ 5% in borderline SFTs and >20% in a malignant SFT. CONCLUSIONS: Solitary fibrous tumors of the lung occur more frequently in middle-aged and elderly people, and there is no significant difference in gender. The lower lobe of the left lung is the preferred site of SFTs. The size of most SFTs is 1-10 cm. Chest CT shows morphologically regular and well-demarcated soft tissue density mass. Pathologically, SFTs of the lung are mostly borderline and occasionally malignant. Immunohistochemistry shows the positive expression of CD34, STAT6, Vimentin, BCL2, and CD99.

Objective: To review the research progress of intraspinal solitary fibrous tumor (SFT). Methods: The domestic and foreign researches on intraspinal SFT were extensively reviewed and analyzed from four aspects, including disease origin, pathological and radiological characteristics, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, and treatment and prognosis. Results: SFT is an interstitial fibroblastic tumor with a low probability of occurrence in the central nervous system, especially in the spinal canal. In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) used the joint diagnostic term "SFT/hemangiopericytoma" according to the pathological characteristics of mesenchymal fibroblasts, which can be divided into three levels according to specific characteristics. The diagnosis process of intraspinal SFT is complex and tedious. It has relatively variable imaging manifestations and specific pathological changes of NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene, which often requires differential diagnosis with neurinoma, meningioma, etc. The treatment of SFT is mainly resection, which can be assisted by radiotherapy to improve the prognosis. Conclusion: Intraspinal SFT is a rare disease. Surgery is still the main treatment. It is recommended to combine preoperative or postoperative radiotherapy. The efficacy of chemotherapy is still unclear. In the future, more studies are expected to establish a systematic diagnosis and treatment strategy for intraspinal SFT.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is an uncommon fibroblastic neoplasm which may arise in a wide range of anatomic location and can occur across all ages. Fat-forming SFT is a rare morphological variant of SFT. Primary breast fat-forming SFT is exquisitely rare. Here, we report a case in a 51-year-old Chinese woman with a palpable painless mass in the left breast. A color Doppler ultrasound scan examination demonstrated a 3.4-cm oval, well-circumscribed, hypoechoic solid mass with several peripheral and internal color flow signals. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a focal lobulated solid nodular lesion displaying geographical enhancement but no architectural distortion. Subsequently, she underwent a left breast lumpectomy. In histopathologic examination, there was a well-circumscribed, cellular spindle cell tumor consisting of short fascicles of bland, fusiform, ovoid to spindle cells disposed in a patternless architecture around branching vascular spaces within a fibrous stroma with wispy collagen. Cells revealed mild nuclear atypia. Mitotic figures were up to 4/10 high-power fields (HPFs) in the hot spot. Mature adipocytes intermixed with spindle cells were also observed. The tumor cells were diffusely positive for CD34 and STAT6. Some S100-expressing adipocytes co-expressed STAT6. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) revealed the presence of the NAB2exon6::STAT6exon2 fusion. The histological, immunohistochemical (IHC) and molecular examinations confirmed the diagnosis of fat-forming SFT. Post-excision, the patient showed no signs of tumor recurrence or metastasis in a 7-month follow-up. Here, we describe a rare case of a fat-forming SFT involving the breast and highlight the comprehensive pathological evaluation and necessary ancillary testing.

Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is an uncommon spindle cell tumour of mesenchymal origin characterised by NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion. Although it was first described in the pleura, it can occur in connective tissue in any part of the body, but rarely presents in the orbit and ocular adnexa. SFT, which is part of the same disease spectrum as other fibroblastic tumours such as giant cell angiofibroma, haemangiopericytoma and fibrous histiocytoma, usually presents as a painless, slow-growing mass in any age group and generally follows a benign course, with a good prognosis after complete excision. However, malignant forms rarely occur. Even for benign tumours a more aggressive clinical behaviour is possible, with relentless infiltrative local growth, frequent recurrence following surgery, and malignant transformation with the potential for metastatic spread. Careful long-term follow-up is essential. The published literature on SFTs of the orbit and ocular adnexa is reviewed, and the aetiology, clinical presentation, epidemiology, radiological features, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, risk stratification, clinical management, and prognosis are discussed, reflecting on our own experience.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are ubiquitous soft tissue neoplasms known for their protean histology and potentially aggressive behavior. Although most cases are composed of a monotonous proliferation of spindle cells, some tumors show unusual cytologic features. We have studied 13 SFTs that were characterized by a predominant population of round epithelioid cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and clear cell changes. The tumors occurred in 8 women and 5 men, aged 36 to 80 years (mean=63 y), and were located within the orbit (3), lower extremity (3), retroperitoneum (2), abdominal cavity (2), and superficial soft tissues of the neck, pelvis, and pubis (1 each). The tumors measured from 3.5 to 24.5 cm. Using a risk assessment system, 6 cases were stratified as low-risk tumors; 3 of these showed no evidence of recurrence or metastases from 6 to 18 years, and 1 tumor in the orbit recurred and led to the patient's demise. Five cases were of intermediate risk; clinical follow-up showed no evidence of recurrence or metastases from 3 to 4 years in 3 patients, and 1 patient suffered a recurrence 4 years after diagnosis. Two cases were high risk; 1 patient died after 1 year and the second patient experienced local recurrence at 4 years. Immunohistochemical studies showed nuclear positivity for STAT6 in 10 cases. CD34 immunohistochemistry was positive in 11 cases. A NAB2::STAT6 rearrangement was present in all cases. Epithelioid and clear cell SFT should be considered in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue neoplasms with epithelioid and clear cell morphology.

BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumor can exhibit a broad morphologic spectrum, such as presence of epithelioid tumor cells, adipose cells and multinucleated giant cells. This report describes an unusual morphologic variant characterized by adenofibromatous features, all occurring in the sinonasal region. METHODS: Four cases of the adenofibromatous variant of solitary fibrous tumor were retrieved from the surgical pathology and consultation files in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong. Histologic examination, immunohistochemical study and reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were performed. RESULTS: The patients were adults who presented with an obstructive mass of the nasal septum, nasal cavity or nasolacrimal sac. Histologic examination showed a circumscribed biphasic tumor with intermingling of glandular structures and spindle cells, reminiscent of mammary fibroadenoma. Bland-looking spindle cells formed short, irregularly oriented fascicles, admixed with variable amount of collagen fibers. The glandular component comprised ducts and seromucinous acini with a lobular architecture, indicating that it represented exuberant hyperplasia of indigenous glands rather than part of the neoplastic process. Demonstration of CD34 and STAT6 immunoreactivity in the spindle cells and NAB2::STAT6 gene fusion by polymerase chain reaction supports the diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor. CONCLUSION: This study reports four cases of sinonasal solitary fibrous tumor with adenofibromatous features, furthermore expanding the morphologic spectrum of this tumor.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm known to occur at various soft tissue and visceral locations. Kidney is one of the rare locations for these tumors with around 64 cases being available in the literature. Most of the renal SFTs are tan-white, solid, firm, unencapsulated, and lobulated masses. A predominantly cystic renal SFT has never been reported in the literature. Herein we describe a case of multicystic renal SFT in a 44-year-old male with the characteristic CD34 + /STAT6 + immunophenotype. A careful gross and microscopic examination is warranted while dealing with cystic spindle cell neoplasms of the kidney and SFT should always be considered in the differential diagnosis. STAT6 immunohistochemistry is quite specific for the diagnosis. Moreso, a detailed immunopanel is necessary to exclude other spindle cell neoplasms of the kidney because of significant therapeutic and prognostic implications.

Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological, molecular genetic, immunohistochemical and prognostic features of spinal solitary fibrous tumor (SFT). Methods: The clinical data of 12 cases of spinal SFT in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Affiliated to Tsinghua University, diagnosed from January 2015 to December 2021 were collected and reclassified. The clinical data, histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular genetics were analyzed. Follow-up and related literature reviews were conducted. Results: Among the 12 patients, there were 5 males and 7 females; the age ranged from 31 to 73 years, with a median age of 50.5 years. All 12 cases were primary tumors, including 4 cases diagnosed at the first time and 8 recurrent cases. Among the 12 cases, 8 were WHO grade 1, 3 were WHO grade 2, and 1 was WHO grade 3. Microscopically, the spinal SFT appeared as a spindle cell tumor, the stroma was rich in many thin-walled blood vessels with various histological features such as cell morphology and necrosis according to the different tumor grade. All (12/12) of the cases expressed vimentin and STAT6 (diffuse and strong nuclear stain), 11 cases (11/12) expressed both CD34 and bcl-2, and 7 cases (7/12) expressed CD99. Next-generation sequencing showed that 12 (12/12) of the patients had NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion. The 12 patients were followed up for 6 to 80 months. There were no recurrences or metastases in the 4 first cases after operation. Among the 8 recurrent cases, 2 of the patients relapsed and 2 died. Conclusions: Spinal SFT is rare and has a high recurrence tendency. Many aspects need to be considered in the diagnosis process. STAT6 is a relatively specific marker for the diagnosis of this tumor. Complete surgical resection is the preferred treatment while postoperative radiotherapy is recommended to reduce tumor recurrence.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal tumors that can occur at any location. Since the identification of specific NAB2-STAT6 fusion in SFTs, the fusion gene variants, NAB2 exon 4-STAT6 exon 2/3 and NAB2 exon 5/6/7-STAT6 exon 16/17/18, have been reported to be associated with clinicopathological features, and the latter variant is predominant in meningeal SFTs. SFTs developing in the salivary glands are rare, and more rarely, those involving ectopic salivary glands (ESGs) have been reported in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA); however, their characteristics remain not well understood. In this study, we performed a clinicopathological and molecular analysis of 3 cases of meningeal SFT with ESGs. All cases presented with an extra-axial mass in the CPA, which is a rarer location for intracranial ESGs compared to the sellar region. Histologically, except for the presence of ESGs, there was no significant difference between current cases and ordinary SFTs. The ESGs demonstrated no cellular atypia, and although the spindle tumor cells were immunopositive for STAT6, the ESGs were negative in all cases, supporting that the ESGs are non-neoplastic components. In 1 case, ESGs were found only in the primary tumor and disappeared in recurrence/dissemination. Of note, molecular analysis identified NAB2 exon 4-STAT6 exon 2 in all cases. In conclusion, our results suggest that ESGs particularly in the CPA may be associated with SFTs and that meningeal SFTs with ESGs may be associated with the minor fusion variant of NAB2-STAT6 in the intracranial lesions.
