ABSTRACT

Background: Previously, we developed the Guidelines for the Management of Pediatric Off-Label Use of Drugs in China in addressing the need for standardization of pediatric off-label drug use. As the implementation of recommendations in Guidelines among healthcare professionals is weak, it is important to identify barriers to guideline implementation for developing appropriate strategies for specific settings and target groups. This study aimed to assess the difficulty and urgency in implementing the recommendations in the Guideline, identifying the factors affecting the implementation of these recommendations to realize the clinical translation of the Guideline. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 1 to June 17, 2022. Pediatricians, pharmacists, and health managers from all 31 mainland Chinese provinces were involved. The electronic questionnaires were distributed nationwide by The Clinical Pharmacology Group of the Pediatric Society of the Chinese Medical Association and the National Clinical Research Center for Child Health. Data analysis, including frequency, percentages, averages, and standard deviations was performed using Microsoft Excel 16.54. Chi-squared tests, multi-factor logistic regression, and linear regression were analyzed in SPSS 23.0. A Sankey diagram was constructed using R software. Results: A total of 869 valid questionnaires were collected from 491 participating organizations. More than half of the recommendations were implemented, and 12 recommendations were implemented more in tertiary hospitals than in secondary hospitals. The mean urgency scores of all 21 recommendations were over 5. The mean difficulty scores of all 21 recommendations were over 4. The percentage of the most urgent was 44.33%, and the least urgent was 1.45%. The most difficult portion was 12.03%, and the least difficult was 5.74%. Factors impacting the urgency and difficulty of guideline implementation were different, with common influences including the position, education level of clinicians and hospital level. Conclusions: The recommendations in the Guideline for the Management of Pediatric Off-Label Use of Drugs are considered highly urgent for implementation in China. Nevertheless, the study revealed challenges in applying all 21 recommendations within clinical practice. The key factors affecting implementation include the position, education, experience, and hospital level of healthcare professionals. It is recommended to facilitate implementing the recommendations by sharing experience across various hospital levels, starting from high-level hospitals and extending to primary healthcare settings. Moreover, adjustments to the professional structure within hospitals are needed to enhance the management of off-label drug use in pediatric patients.

ABSTRACT

LncRNA HAND2-AS1 is a novel cancer regulator, but the role and mechanisms of HAND2-AS1 involved with colon cancer (CC) progression remains unknown. The purpose of this research was to figure out how HAND2-AS1 regulates the progression of CC. Using qRT-PCR, we studied expression levels of miR-3118, HAND2-AS1, and ZG16 in CC tissues and cells. Protein levels of apoptosis-related proteins (Bax and Bcl-2) and ZG16 were quantified by western blotting. In vitro function analysis referred to western blotting, wound healing assay and CCK-8. The binding association among miR-3118, HAND2-AS1, and ZG16 was investigated using luciferase reporter and RIP assays. The functional role of HAND2-AS1 was analyzed using xenograft tumor models in vivo. In tissues and cells of CC, HAND2-AS1 was downregulated. We observed that HAND2-AS1 overexpression declined CC cell proliferation and migration while facilitating apoptosis. We further verified that when HAND2-AS1 is overexpressed it reduced CC tumor development in vivo. In CC cells and tissues, miR-3118 competed with HAND2-AS1 and was elevated. Further it was noted that the HAND2-AS1 when overexpressed, lessened the survival of CC cells, however overexpression of miR-3118 restored these changes. ZG16 was shown to be a target of miR-3118, it was found that ZG16 was downregulated in CC tissue and cells. We observed, high expression of ZG16 partially restored the enhanced malignant phenotype caused by miR-3118 overexpression. HAND2-AS1 inhibited CC progression by upregulating ZG16 expression through sponging miR-3118. Hence, HAND2-AS1/miR-3118/ZG16 axis could be a possible new target for CC treatment.

ABSTRACT

Organic nanocrystals, particularly those composed of conjugated molecules, hold immense potential for various applications. However, their practical utility is often hindered by the challenge of achieving stable aqueous dispersions, which are essential for biological compatibility and effective delivery. This study introduces a novel and versatile strategy for preparing stable aqueous organic nanocrystals using a modified reprecipitation method. We demonstrate the broad applicability of this approach by successfully preparing a diverse library of nanocrystals from 27 conjugated molecules. Our findings reveal a charge-balanced aggregation mechanism for nanocrystal formation, highlighting the crucial role of surface charge in controlling particle size and stability. Based on this mechanism, we establish a comprehensive molecular combination strategy that directly links molecular properties to colloidal behaviour, enabling the straightforward prediction and preparation of stable aqueous dispersions without the need for excipients. This strategy provides a practical workflow for tailoring the functionality of these nanocrystals for a wide range of applications. To illustrate their therapeutic potential, we demonstrate the enhanced efficacy of these nanocrystals in treating acute ulcerative colitis, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, and cancer in mouse models. This work paves the way for developing next-generation nanomaterials with tailored functionalities for diverse biomedical applications.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: 5-10% of thyroid cancers are at locally advanced stage. Neoadjuvant targeted therapy will likely create surgical opportunities for these patients with unresectable or borderline resectable tumors. Pralsetinib, a RET inhibitor, has been approved for advanced or metastatic RET-altered thyroid cancer. However, there is no evidence on the efficacy of pralsetinib as neoadjuvant therapy in locally advanced RET-altered thyroid cancer. CASE REPORT: Two patients with locally advanced pappilary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) were treated with pralsetinib (400 mg daily) to reduce tumor size and increase the chance of R0 resection. Both PTCs, characterized by RET-fusion, underwent successful R0 resection without major surgical complications after 4-months neoadjuvant pralsetinib. CONCLUSION: There is a potential for pralsetinib as a neoadjuvant treatment in PTC with RET-fusion.

ABSTRACT

Background: The HIMALAYA trial found that durvalumab plus tremelimumab significantly prolonged progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compared with sorafenib. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the cost-effectiveness of durvalumab plus tremelimumab compared with sorafenib in the first-line HCC setting. Design: A Markov model-based cost-effectiveness analysis. Methods: We created a Markov model to compare healthcare costs and clinical outcomes of HCC patients treated with durvalumab plus tremelimumab in the first-line setting compared with sorafenib. We estimated transition probabilities from randomized trials. Lifetime direct healthcare costs, quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios were calculated for first-line durvalumab plus tremelimumab compared with sorafenib from a US payer's perspective. Results: In the base case, first-line durvalumab plus tremelimumab was associated with an improvement of 0.29 QALYs compared with sorafenib. While both treatment strategies were associated with considerable lifetime expenditures, first-line durvalumab plus tremelimumab was less expensive than sorafenib ($188,405 vs $218,584). The incremental net monetary benefit for durvalumab plus tremelimumab versus sorafenib was $72,762 (valuing QALYs at $150,000 each). The results of durvalumab plus tremelimumab were better in terms of costs and health outcomes in patients with HBV-related HCC and high alpha-fetoprotein levels. Conclusion: First-line durvalumab plus tremelimumab was estimated to be dominant for the treatment of unresectable HCC compared with sorafenib from a US payer's perspective.

ABSTRACT

Ocular metastasis (OM) in breast cancer (BC) always predicts poor prognosis. The present study explored differences in tumor markers in patients with BC with and without OM, and attempted to determine risk factors for OM in patients with BC. This study involved 629 patients with BC. Patients' clinical features were tested using χ2 test, unpaired Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney U. These parameters were analyzed using binary logistic regression to obtain risk factors for OM. A receiver operating characteristic curve was then established to determine the diagnostic value for OM. There were no significant differences in age, sex, menopausal state, and pathological type between the two groups. Significantly more axillary lymph node metastases were observed in the OM group compared with the non-ocular metastases group. Cancer antigen 153 (CA153) was revealed to be a significant independent risk factor for OM in patients with BC. The cutoff CA153 value for diagnosis of OM was 43.00 u/ml, the sensitivity was 96.15% and the specificity was 96.02%. In conclusion, CA153 was demonstrated to be a risk factor for OM in patients with BC. High levels of CA153 were associated with OM in patients with BC.

ABSTRACT

Children all over the world suffer from atopic dermatitis (AD), a prevalent condition that impairs their health. Corticosteroids, which have long-term negative effects, are frequently used to treat AD. There has been a growing body of research on the gut microbiota's function in AD. Nevertheless, the function and underlying mechanisms of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in AD children remain to be established. Therefore, in order to assess the preventive effects of FMT treatment on AD and investigate the mechanisms, we constructed an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced juvenile mouse AD model in this investigation. This study explored the role and mechanism of FMT treatment in AD through 16S RNA sequencing, pathological histological staining, molecular biology, and Flow cytometry. Results demonstrated that the FMT treatment improved the gut microbiota's diversity and composition, bringing it back to a level similar to that of a close donor. Following FMT treatment, OVA-specific antibodies were inhibited, immunoglobulin (Ig) E production was decreased, the quantity of mast cells and eosinophils was decreased, and specific inflammatory markers in the skin and serum were decreased. Further mechanistic studies revealed that FMT treatment induced CD103+ DCs and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)/programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) expression in skin-draining lymph nodes and promoted Treg production to induce immune tolerance and suppress skin inflammation. Meanwhile, changes in the gut microbiota were substantially correlated with Th2 cytokines, OVA-specific antibodies, and PD-L1/PD-1. In conclusion, FMT regulates the Th1/Th2 immunological balance and the gut microbiota. It may also inhibit AD-induced allergy responses through the PD-L1/PD-1 pathway, and providing a unique idea and possibly a fresh approach to the treatment of AD.

ABSTRACT

There is extensive geologic evidence of ancient volcanic activity on the Moon, but it is unclear how long that volcanism persisted. Magma fountains produce volcanic glasses, which have previously been found in samples of the Moon's surface. We investigated ~3000 glass beads in lunar soil samples collected by the Chang'e-5 mission and identified three as having a volcanic origin on the basis of their textures, chemical compositions, and sulfur isotopes. Uranium-lead dating of the three volcanic glass beads shows that they formed 123 ± 15 million years ago. We measured high abundances of rare earth elements and thorium in these volcanic glass beads, which could indicate that such recent volcanism was related to local enrichment of heat-generating elements in the mantle sources of the magma.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this study, we investigated the safety and efficacy of fondaparinux sodium in postpercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) anticoagulation therapy for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. There are a total of 200 patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction underwent PCI and anticoagulation therapy. They were randomly split into experimental (n = 108) and control groups (n = 92). The experimental group received postoperative fondaparinux sodium (2.5 mg q.d), while the control group received enoxaparin (4000 IU q12 h). We did not use a loading dose for enoxaparin. Bleeding incidence and major adverse cardiovascular/cerebrovascular events were monitored during hospitalization, and at 1, 3, and 6 months postsurgery. The primary end points, including bleeding, mortality, and myocardial infarction during hospitalization, were not significantly different between the 2 groups. For secondary end points, the incidence of combined end point events at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery in the experimental group was lower than in the control group (P < 0.05). According to Cox regression analysis, the risk of bleeding in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group [hazard ratios: 0.506, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.284-0.900] (P = 0.020). The risk of mortality in the experimental group was significantly lower than in the control group (hazard ratio: 0.188, 95% CI: 0.040-0.889) (P = 0.035). In summary, perioperative use of fondaparinux sodium during PCI in patients with STEMI in this study was associated with a lower risk of bleeding and death compared with enoxaparin use in the absence of loading dose.

ABSTRACT

Facilitating the surface reconstruction of pre-catalysts has been considered an effective strategy for constructing low-cost and highly efficient OER electrocatalysts. Metal doping is a feasible way to activate the surface reconstruction, thus enhancing the OER performance. Herein, we report a facile hydrothermal method to synthesize a series of Zn-doped Ni-MOF on nickel foam (NiZn-MOF/NF) as promising pre-catalysts toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The Zn leaching of NiZn-MOF/NF can promote the surface self-reconstruction of NiZn-MOF/NF into oxygen-vacancy-rich NiOOH after electrochemical activation. Benefiting from the optimized electronic structure, abundant defects, more accessible active sites, and enhanced electrical conductivity, the reconstructed metal oxyhydroxide hybrids exhibit better electrocatalytic activity than the catalysts transformed from Ni-MOF/NF without Zn doping. The optimized NiZn-MOF/NF-OH as an OER catalyst has an overpotential of 336 mV at 100 mA cm-2, and a Tafel slope of 65.9 mV dec-1, as well as stability over 12 h. This work reveals that Zn cation-doping/leaching induces the surface reconstruction of pre-catalysts for enhanced oxygen catalytic activity, which provides a new approach for the development of advanced electrocatalysts.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Massage is a form of health care, but incorrect techniques can potentially harm the human body (Qin et al., 2023 [1]). While there have been no reported cases of lateral thoracic artery pseudoaneurysm and rupture induced by axillary massage, it is important to further explore how to address and prevent such potential risks. CASE PRESENTATION: This case study highlights a rare occurrence where a 61-year-old female patient experienced a lateral thoracic artery pseudoaneurysm and ruptured as a result of an axillary massage. The patient, self-taught in Chinese medicine and massage, regularly rubbed the Jiquan points in her armpits to promote heart health, with each session lasting 30-60 min for two years. She presented with symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, left armpit pain, and oedema, leading to her admission to a nearby hospital. Despite receiving blood transfusions, her symptoms did not improve, necessitating her to refer to our hospital. A CT angiography scan of her upper limb arteries revealed the presence of a left lateral thoracic artery pseudoaneurysm and rupture, resulting in subcutaneous hematoma in the left axilla, chest, and back. Following angiography, successful embolisation was performed. Three months after surgery, the patient regained full mobility and was free from pain in her left upper limb. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: The armpit region contains a high concentration of nerves and blood vessels, making it crucial to have a thorough understanding of its anatomy and to use precise massage techniques. Damage to the axillary arteries can result in severe complications, which can be addressed through either open or endovascular interventional procedures. This article reviews existing literature and guides in managing these specific scenarios. CONCLUSION: Caution should be exercised when performing an armpit massage, as a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the axillary area is crucial. Injury to the lateral thoracic artery is a potential risk during axillary massage, and in such cases, endovascular intervention may be considered.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death all over the world, and brings a heavy social economic burden especially in China. Several immuno-combination therapies have shown promising efficacy in the first-line treatment of unresectable HCC and are widely used in clinical practice. Nevertheless, which combination is the most affordable one is unknown. Our study assessed the cost-effectiveness of the immuno-combinations as first-line treatment for patients with unresectable HCC from the perspective of Chinese payers. METHODS: A Markov model was built according to five multicenter, phase III, open-label, randomized trials (Himalaya, IMbrave150, ORIENT-32, CARES-310, LEAP-002) to investigate the cost-effectiveness of tremelimumab plus durvalumab (STRIDE), atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (A + B), sintilimab plus bevacizumab biosimilar (IBI305) (S + B), camrelizumab plus rivoceranib (C + R), and pembrolizumab plus lenvatinib (P + L). Three disease states were included: progression free survival (PFS), progressive disease (PD) as well as death. Medical costs were searched from West China Hospital, published literatures or the Red Book. Cost-effectiveness ratios (CERs) and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were evaluated to compare costs among different combinations. Sensitivity analyses were performed to assess the robust of the model. RESULTS: The total cost and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of C + R, S + B, P + L, A + B and STRIDE were $12,109.27 and 0.91, $26,961.60 and 1.12, $55,382.53 and 0.83, $70,985.06 and 0.90, $84,589.01 and 0.73, respectively, resulting in the most cost-effective strategy of C + R with CER of $13,306.89 per QALY followed by S + B with CER of $24,072.86 per QALY. Compared with C + R, the ICER of S + B strategy was $70,725.38 per QALY, which would become the most cost-effective when the willing-to-pay threshold exceeded $73,500/QALY. In the subgroup analysis, with the application of Asia results in Leap-002 trial, the model results were the same as global data. In the sensitivity analysis, with the variation of parameters, the results were robust. CONCLUSION: As one of the promising immuno-combination therapies in the first-line systemic treatment of HCC, camrelizumab plus rivoceranib demonstrated the potential to be the most cost-effective strategy, which warranted further studies to best inform the real-world clinical practices.

ABSTRACT

Chemoresistance is a main cause of chemotherapy failure and tumor recurrence. The effects of global protein SUMOylation on chemoresistance in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains to be investigated. Herein, we have proposed that the elevated SUMO2/3-modified proteins confer 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) chemoresistance acquisition in CRC. The SUMOylation levels of global proteins in CRC cell lines were elevated compared with normal colon cell line NCM460. 5-FU treatment obviously reduced SUMOylation of global proteins in 5-FU-sensitive CRC cells including HT29, HCT116 and HCT-8. However, in 5-FU-resistant HCT-8/5-FU cells, the expression level of SUMO2/3-modified proteins was increased under 5-FU exposure in a concentration-dependent manner. 5-FU treatment combined with SUMOylation inhibitor ML-792 significantly increased the sensitivity of 5-FU-resistant cells to 5-FU and reduced colony formation numbers in HCT-8/5-FU cells. And UBC9-mediated SUMOylation elevation contributes to 5-FU resistance in HCT116 cells. Moreover, we also identified RREB1 as a regulator of SUMOylation profiling of global cellular proteins via directly binding to the promoter of UBC9. Overexpression of RREB1 promoted 5-FU resistance in CRC, which was partially abolished by treatment of inhibitor ML-792. In conclusion, RREB1-enhanced protein SUMOylation contributes to 5-FU resistance acquisition in CRC.

ABSTRACT

Deep carbon cycle is crucial for mantle dynamics and maintaining Earth's habitability. Recycled carbonates are a strong oxidant in mantle carbon-iron redox reactions, leading to the formation of highly oxidized mantle domains and deep carbon storage. Here we report high Fe3+/∑Fe values in Cenozoic intraplate basalts from eastern China, which are correlated with geochemical and isotopic compositions that point to a common role of carbonated melt with recycled carbonate signatures. We propose that the source of these highly oxidized basalts has been oxidized by carbonated melts derived from the stagnant subducted slab in the mantle transition zone. Diamonds formed during the carbon-iron redox reaction were separated from the melt due to density differences. This would leave a large amount of carbon (about four times of preindustrial atmospheric carbon budget) stored in the deep mantle and isolated from global carbon cycle. As such, the amounts of subducted slabs stagnated at mantle transition zone can be an important factor regulating the climate.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study explored risk perception characteristics and influencing factors among informal caregivers of functionally dependent elderly individuals at home, aiming to improve caregivers' caregiving risk perception and coping abilities and ultimately enhance the quality of life for these individuals. METHODS: We used purposive sampling to select 22 informal caregivers from a community in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, between March and September 2023 and conducted face-to-face semi-structured in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step analysis method. RESULTS: We extracted two themes, caregiving risk perception characteristics and caregiving risk perception associated factors, and eight sub-themes, perceived risk possibility, perceived risk anticipation, perceived severity of consequences, past caregiving experiences, health literacy, psychological status, caregiving burden, and family social support. CONCLUSION: There were differences in how informal caregivers perceived the risks associated with caring for functionally dependent elderly individuals at home, which various factors could influence. It was essential to provide training that covered the knowledge and skills needed for caregiving, improve caregivers' awareness of safety risks, and establish a correct perception of caregiving risks. The government must construct and refine a comprehensive framework for caregiver respite services. Simultaneously, healthcare professionals should proactively undertake health education endeavors to augment the recognition of care safety risks among informal caregivers, thereby cultivating an accurate awareness of care risk perception.

ABSTRACT

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) constitute a distinctive subset of RNA molecules with limited protein-coding potential, which exert crucial impacts on various biological activities. In the context of cancer, dysregulated lncRNAs function as essential regulators that affect tumor initiation and malignant progression. These lncRNAs serve as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) through sponging microRNAs and regulating the expression of targeted genes. Moreover, they also directly bind to RNA-binding proteins, which can be integrated into a complex mechanistic network. E2F1, an extensively studied transcription factor, mediates multiple malignant behaviors by regulating cell cycle progression, tumor metastasis, and therapeutic response. Emerging evidence suggests that lncRNAs play a pivotal role in regulating the E2F1 pathway. This review aims to elucidate the intricate gene regulatory programs between lncRNAs and E2F1 in cancer progression. We elaborate on distinct mechanistic networks involved in cancer progression, emphasizing the potential of the lncRNAs/E2F1 axes as promising targets for cancer therapy. Additionally, we provide novel perspectives on current evidence, limitations, and future directions for targeting lncRNAs in human cancers. Fully deciphering the intricate network of lncRNA/E2F1-mediated regulatory mechanisms in cancer could facilitate the translation of current findings into clinical course, such efforts ultimately significantly improve the clinical prognosis of cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The treatment with anti-VEGF for Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) has already been widely applied in clinics even though there are still many concerns about this treatment. In this project we investigated the clinical outcomes of intra-vitreous conbercept (IVC) and ranibizumab (IVR) injection for treating type 1 prethreshold ROP in Zone II. METHODS: The data of ROP infants receiving IVR or IVC from January 2017 to March 2020 who were followed up for at least 12 months in our hospital was studied in the present retrospective study. Regression, reactivation, complications, and ocular biological parameters were evaluated. RESULTS: One hundred twenty-five eyes (64 infants) in IVC group and 229 eyes (117 infants) in IVR group were observed in the study. All infants showed good response to the two anti-VEGF agents. No eyes deteriorated during the observation. No significant difference was found between the two groups as to the regression within one week and one month, the reactivation rate, and the retreatment interval (p > 0.05) whereas retinal complete vascularization rate at 6 mons after the initial treatment and mean completion time of retinal vascularization after initial injection showed significant difference (p < 0.05). At 12 mons PMA the ocular parameters also presented no statistical difference between the two treated groups (p > 0.05). However, the ocular showed slight myopic tendency with the anti-VEGF treatment when compared to the control group (p < 0.05) whereas there was no statistical difference revealed between the two treated groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Both conbercept and ranibizumab for treating type 1 prethreshold ROP in Zone II are safe and effective. They had little effect on the development of ocular whereas there was a slight tendency of myopia after the treatment.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) can be caused by narrowness of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) angle. Nevertheless, the cut-off value of the SMA angle is controversial and variable. Therefore, the present study evaluated the optimal SMA angle to maximize diagnostic performance for NCS diagnosis by conducting a meta-analysis. METHODS: We comprehensively searched the English literature related to the diagnosis of NCS from the perspective of SMA (from the date of database inception to June 2022). The accuracy of an SMA angle less than 41° in the diagnosis of NCS was evaluated by calculating the pooled sensitivity (SEN), pooled specificity (SPE), positive likelihood ratio (LR+), negative likelihood ratio (LR-), summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) value. The I2 test and meta-regression analysis were used to assess heterogeneity and sources of heterogeneity, respectively. Publication bias was assessed using Deeks' funnel plot asymmetry test. RESULTS: Six studies (526 patients) met the inclusion criteria. SEN and SPE were 0.94 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.80-0.99) and 0.85 (95% CI 0.65-0.94), respectively. The LR + value was 6.0, and the LR- value was 0.07, revealing that SMA angles less than 41° exhibited an excellent ability to help confirm or exclude NCS. Additionally, SROC curves showed that the AUC of SMA angles less than 41° for the diagnosis of NCS was 0.96, indicating that SMA angles less than 41° have good efficacy for helping to diagnose NCS. CONCLUSION: This study explored the diagnostic efficacy of the cut-off value of the SMA angle by meta-analysis. According to the high SPE and SEN results, SMA angles less than 41° have good efficacy in facilitating NCS diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Based on the carbon emission accounting method for domestic sewage, combined with the current situation of rural domestic sewage treatment, the carbon emissions of traditional schemes and source separation schemes under the three scenarios of single household, multi-household, and pipeline treatments were calculated. The results showed that the net carbon emissions (calculated as CO2) of the single household, multi-household, and pipeline treatment traditional schemes were 1.21, 3.37, and 2.69 kg·m-3, respectively. The net carbon emissions (calculated as CO2) of the single household, multi-household, and pipeline treatments in source separation schemes were -0.50, -0.04, and -0.54 kg·m-3, respectively, achieving zero or even negative carbon emissions. The direct and indirect carbon emissions of the source separation scheme were lower than those of the traditional scheme under all three scenarios. The carbon compensation measures in the source separation scheme mainly came from the land use of urine after storage and treatment. By separating blackwater from graywater at the source, the Source Separation Program achieved resource utilization of highly concentrated pollutants in blackwater, reducing emissions while generating significant carbon offsets. Therefore, efforts should be made to promote the separation and treatment of rural domestic sewage sources, improve the utilization rate of rural domestic sewage resources, and achieve green and low-carbon development of rural domestic sewage treatment.
