ABSTRACT

We undertook a survey among epileptologists in China to explore their attitudes toward physical exercise and sports for persons with epilepsy (PWEs). A total of 288 epileptologists participated. Most recognized the potential benefits of physical exercise and sports for PWEs, including improved cognitive function (74.6 %), alleviation of mental disorders (73.2 %), and enhanced quality of life (83.8 %). Epileptologists overwhelmingly agreed on the importance of discussing and encouraging physical exercise and sports for PWEs (97.4 % and 95.2 %, respectively). Before engagement in physical exercise and sports, most epileptologists considered that the duration of seizure-free status could be shorter if the seizures were typically focal, non-motor, or without impaired awareness (p < 0.05). There was consensus (99.1 %) on the need to grade the risk of related activities. Opinions were divided regarding the use of health certificates for restricting PWEs (favored by 63.2 %). The majority (93.9 %) called for an expert consensus or clinical guidelines in China. In conclusion, epileptologists in China generally demonstrate a positive attitude toward physical exercise and sports for PWEs. Both benefits and risks of these activities have generally been acknowledged. It is recommended to prioritize activities with lower risks and higher benefits. However, the recommendations for PWEs with a lower likelihood of recurrence and less risky seizure types can be more liberal. Urgent development of normative guidance from governmental and professional bodies is warranted.

ABSTRACT

The presence of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment poses a significant threat to ecological safety and environmental health. Widespread microplastics (MPs) have been recognized as vectors for emerging contaminants due to human activities. However, the adsorption behaviors of PFAS on MPs, especially on aged MPs, have not been extensively investigated. This study aimed to investigate the adsorption behaviors of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) on aged MPs (polystyrene, polyethylene, and polyethylene terephthalate) treated with UV irradiation and persulfate oxidation under salinity and dissolve organic matter (DOM) condition. Carbonyl index values of MPs increased after the aged treatment, indicating the production of oxygen-containing groups. The PFOA adsorption on aged MPs was impacted by the co-existence of Na+ ions and DOM. As PFOA adsorption onto aged MPs was mainly controlled by hydrophobic interaction, the electrostatic interaction also made a contribution, but there was no significant change in PFOA adsorption behavior between the pristine and aged MPs. While these findings provide insight into PFAS adsorption on aged MPs, further research is necessary to account for the complexity of the real environment. PRACTITIONER POINTS: Adsorption behaviors of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) on aged microplastics were investigated. Hydrophobic interaction mainly controlled PFOA adsorption on aged microplastics (MPs). Co-existence dissolve organic matter and salinity influenced PFOA adsorption behaviors on aged MPs.

ABSTRACT

Background: Large language models (LLMs) have achieved great progress in natural language processing tasks and demonstrated the potential for use in clinical applications. Despite their capabilities, LLMs in the medical domain are prone to generating hallucinations (not fully reliable responses). Hallucinations in LLMs' responses create substantial risks, potentially threatening patients' physical safety. Thus, to perceive and prevent this safety risk, it is essential to evaluate LLMs in the medical domain and build a systematic evaluation. Objective: We developed a comprehensive evaluation system, MedGPTEval, composed of criteria, medical data sets in Chinese, and publicly available benchmarks. Methods: First, a set of evaluation criteria was designed based on a comprehensive literature review. Second, existing candidate criteria were optimized by using a Delphi method with 5 experts in medicine and engineering. Third, 3 clinical experts designed medical data sets to interact with LLMs. Finally, benchmarking experiments were conducted on the data sets. The responses generated by chatbots based on LLMs were recorded for blind evaluations by 5 licensed medical experts. The evaluation criteria that were obtained covered medical professional capabilities, social comprehensive capabilities, contextual capabilities, and computational robustness, with 16 detailed indicators. The medical data sets include 27 medical dialogues and 7 case reports in Chinese. Three chatbots were evaluated: ChatGPT by OpenAI; ERNIE Bot by Baidu, Inc; and Doctor PuJiang (Dr PJ) by Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Results: Dr PJ outperformed ChatGPT and ERNIE Bot in the multiple-turn medical dialogues and case report scenarios. Dr PJ also outperformed ChatGPT in the semantic consistency rate and complete error rate category, indicating better robustness. However, Dr PJ had slightly lower scores in medical professional capabilities compared with ChatGPT in the multiple-turn dialogue scenario. Conclusions: MedGPTEval provides comprehensive criteria to evaluate chatbots by LLMs in the medical domain, open-source data sets, and benchmarks assessing 3 LLMs. Experimental results demonstrate that Dr PJ outperforms ChatGPT and ERNIE Bot in social and professional contexts. Therefore, such an assessment system can be easily adopted by researchers in this community to augment an open-source data set.

ABSTRACT

The bioaccumulation and trophic transfer of organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) in marine ecosystems have attracted great attention in recent research, but our understanding of the trophic transfer mechanisms involved is limited. In this study, we investigated the trophodynamics of OPFRs and their metabolites in a subtropical coastal food web collected from the northern Beibu Gulf, China, and characterized their trophodynamics using fugacity- and biotransformation-based approaches. Eleven OPFRs and all seven metabolites were simultaneously quantified in the shellfish, crustacean, pelagic fish, and benthic fish samples, with total concentrations ranging from 164 to 4.11 × 104 and 4.56-4.28 × 103 ng/g lipid weight, respectively. Significant biomagnification was observed only for tris (phenyl) phosphate (TPHP) and tris (2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP), while other compounds except for tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) displayed biomagnification trends based on Monte Carlo simulations. Using a fugacity-based approach to normalize the accumulation of OPFRs in biota to their relative biological phase composition, storage lipid is the predominant biological phase for the mass distribution of 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPHP) and TPHP. The water content and structure protein are equally important for TCEP, whereas lipid and structure protein are the two most important phases for other OPFRs. The mass distribution of these OPFRs along with TLs can explain their trophodynamics in the food web. The organophosphate diesters (as OPFR metabolites) also displayed biomagnification trends based on bootstrapped estimation. The correlation analysis and Korganism-water results jointly suggested the metabolites accumulation in high-TL organisms was related to biotransformation processes. The metabolite-backtracked trophic magnification factors for tri-n­butyl phosphate (TNBP) and TPHP were both greater than the values that accounted for only the parent compounds. This study highlights the incorporation of fugacity and biotransformation analysis to characterize the trophodynamic processes of OPFRs and other emerging pollutants in food webs.

Coptidis Rhizoma (CR) holds significant clinical importance. In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of CR's dispensing granule decoction (DGD) and traditional decoction (TD) to establish a comprehensive evaluation method for the quality of DGD. We selected nine batches of DGD (three from each of manufacturers A, B and C) and 10 batches of decoction pieces for analysis. We determined the content of representative components using high-performance liquid chromatography and assessed the content of blood components in vivo post-administration using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The antibacterial activity was measured using the drug-sensitive tablet method. To evaluate the overall consistency of DGD and TD, we employed the CRITIC method and Grey relational analysis method. Our CRITIC results indicated no significant difference between the CRITIC scores of DGD-B and TD, with DGD-B exhibiting the highest consistency and overall quality. However, DGD-A and DGD-C showed variations in CRITIC scores compared with TD. After equivalent correction, the quality of DGD-A and DGD-C approached that of TD. Furthermore, our Grey relational analysis results supported the findings of the CRITIC method. This study offers a novel approach to evaluate the consistency between DGD and TD, providing insights into improving the quality of DGD.

ABSTRACT

The effects and underlying mechanisms of adolescent exposure to combined environmental hazards on cognitive function remain unclear. Here, using a combined exposure model, we found significant cognitive decline, hippocampal neuronal damage, and neuronal senescence in mice exposed to cadmium (Cd) and high-fat diet (HFD) during adolescence. Furthermore, we observed a significant downregulation of Sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) expression in the hippocampi of co-exposed mice. UBCS039, a specific SIRT6 activator, markedly reversed the above adverse effects. Further investigation revealed that co-exposure obviously reduced the levels of La ribonucleoprotein 7 (LARP7), disrupted the interaction between LARP7 and SIRT6, ultimately decreasing SIRT6 expression in mouse hippocampal neuronal cells. Overexpression of Larp7 reversed the combined exposure-induced SIRT6 decrease and senescence in mouse hippocampal neuronal cells. Additionally, the results showed notably elevated levels of Larp7 m6A and YTH domain family protein 2 (YTHDF2) in mouse hippocampal neuronal cells treated with the combined hazards. Ythdf2 short interfering RNA, RNA immunoprecipitation, and RNA stability assays further demonstrated that YTHDF2 mediated the degradation of Larp7 mRNA under combined exposure. Collectively, adolescent co-exposure to Cd and HFD causes hippocampal senescence and cognitive decline in mice by inhibiting LARP7-mediated SIRT6 expression in an m6A-dependent manner.

ABSTRACT

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice. It has a high prevalence and poor prognosis. The application of antiarrhythmic drugs and even surgery cannot completely treat the disease, and there are many sequelae. AF can be classified into the category of "palpitation" in Chinese medicine according to its symptoms. Acupuncture has a significant effect on AF. The authors find that an important mechanism of acupuncture in AF treatment is to regulate the cardiac vagus nerve. Therefore, this article intends to review the distribution and function of vagus nerve in the heart, the application and the regulatroy effect for the treatment of AF.

ABSTRACT

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) serves as the most abundant posttranscription modification. However, the role of m6A in tumorigenesis and chemotherapeutic drugs sensitivity remains largely unclear. Present research focuses on the potential function of the m6A writer KIAA1429 in tumor development and sorafenib sensitivity in liver cancer. We found that the level of KIAA1429 was significantly elevated in liver cancer tissues and cells and was closely associated with poorer prognosis. Functionally, KIAA1429 promoted the proliferation and Warburg effect of liver cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. RNA-seq and MeRIP-seq analysis revealed the glycolysis was one of the most affected pathways by KIAA1429, and m6A-modified HK1 was the most likely targeted gene to regulate the Warburg effect. KIAA1429 depletion decreased Warburg effect and increased sorafenib sensitivity in liver cancer. Mechanistically, KIAA1429 could affect the m6A level of HK1 mRNA through directly binding with it. Moreover, KIAA1429 cooperated with the m6A reader HuR to enhance HK1 mRNA stability, thereby upregulating its expression. These findings demonstrated that KIAA1429/HK1 axis decreases the sensitivity of liver cancer cells to sorafenib by regulating the Warburg effect, which may provide a novel therapeutic target for liver cancer treatment.

ABSTRACT

Influenza A/H9 viruses circulate worldwide in wild and domestic avian species, continuing to evolve and posing a zoonotic risk. A substantial increase in human infections with A/H9N2 subtype avian influenza viruses (AIVs) and the emergence of novel reassortants carrying A/H9N2-origin internal genes has occurred in recent years. Different names have been used to describe the circulating and emerging A/H9 lineages. To address this issue, an international group of experts from animal and public health laboratories, endorsed by the WOAH/FAO Network of Expertise on Animal Influenza, has created a practical lineage classification and nomenclature system based on the analysis of 10,638 hemagglutinin sequences from A/H9 AIVs sampled worldwide. This system incorporates phylogenetic relationships and epidemiologic characteristics designed to trace emerging and circulating lineages and clades. To aid in lineage and clade assignment, an online tool has been created. This proposed classification enables rapid comprehension of the global spread and evolution of A/H9 AIVs.

ABSTRACT

Oxygen vacancy (Ov) is an anionic defect widely existed in metal oxide lattice, as exemplified by CeO2, TiO2, and ZnO. As Ov can modify the band structure of solid, it improves the physicochemical properties such as the semiconducting performance and catalytic behaviours. We report here a new type of Ov as an intrinsic part of a perfect crystalline surface. Such non-defect Ov stems from the irregular hexagonal sawtooth-shaped structure in the (111) plane of trivalent rare earth oxides (RE2O3). The materials with such intrinsic Ov structure exhibit excellent performance in ammonia decomposition reaction with surface Ru active sites. Extremely high H2 formation rate has been achieved at ~1 wt% of Ru loading over Sm2O3, Y2O3 and Gd2O3 surface, which is 1.5-20 times higher than reported values in the literature. The discovery of intrinsic Ov suggests great potentials of applying RE oxides in heterogeneous catalysis and surface chemistry.

Analyzing the genetic diversity and selection characteristics of sheep (Ovis aries) holds significant value in understanding their environmental adaptability, enhancing breeding efficiency, and achieving effective conservation and rational utilization of genetic resources. In this study, we utilized Illumina Ovine SNP 50 K BeadChip data from four indigenous sheep breeds from the southern margin of the Taklamakan Desert (Duolang sheep: n = 36, Hetian sheep: n = 74, Kunlun sheep: n = 27, Qira black sheep: n = 178) and three foreign meat sheep breeds (Poll Dorset sheep: n = 105, Suffolk sheep: n = 153, Texel sheep: n = 150) to investigate the population structure, genetic diversity, and genomic signals of positive selection within the indigenous sheep. According to the Principal component analysis (PCA), the Neighbor-Joining tree (NJ tree), and Admixture, we revealed distinct clustering patterns of these seven sheep breeds based on their geographical distribution. Then used Cross Population Extended Haplotype Homozygosity (XP-EHH), Fixation Index (FST), and Integrated Haplotype Score (iHS), we identified a collective set of 32 overlapping genes under positive selection across four indigenous sheep breeds. These genes are associated with wool follicle development and wool traits, desert environmental adaptability, disease resistance, reproduction, and high-altitude adaptability. This study reveals the population structure and genomic selection characteristics in the extreme desert environments of native sheep breeds from the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert, providing new insights into the conservation and sustainable use of indigenous sheep genetic resources in extreme environments. Additionally, these findings offer valuable genetic resources for sheep and other mammals to adapt to global climate change.

An UPLC-APCI-MS/MS method was developed for the simultaneous determination of cholesterol, 7-dehydrocholesterol (7DHC) and eight oxysterols including 27-hydroxycholesterol (27OHC), 7α-hydroxycholesterol (7αOHC), 7ß-hydroxycholesterol (7ßOHC), 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24SOHC), 25-hydroxycholesterol (25OHC), 7α,24S-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,24SdiOHC), 7α,25-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,25diOHC), and 7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,27diOHC). It has been used for quantitative analysis of cholesterol, 7DHC and eight oxysterols in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, plasma and tumor tissue samples. And the above compounds were extracted from the biological matrix (plasma and tissue) using liquid-liquid extraction with hexane/isopropanol after saponification to cleave the steroids from their esterified forms without further derivatization. Then cholesterol, 7DHC and oxysterols were separated on a reversed phase column (Agilent Zorbax Eclipse plus, C18) within 8 min using a gradient elution with 0.1 % formic acid in H2O and methanol and detected by an APCI triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) of the cholesterol, 7DHC and oxysterols ranged from 3.9 ng/mL to 31.25 ng/mL, and the recoveries ranged from 83.0 % to 113.9 %. Cholesterol, 7DHC and several oxysterols including 27OHC, 7αOHC and 7ßOHC were successfully quantified in HCC cells, plasma, tissues and urine of HCC mice. Results showed that 27OHC was at high levels in three kind of HCC cells and tumor tissues as well as plasma samples from both HepG2 and Huh7 bearing mice model,and the high levels of 27OHC in tumors were associated with HCC development. Moreover, the levels of cholesterol in HCC cells and tumor issues varied in different HCC cells and mice model. Oxysterols profiling in biological samples might provide complementary information in cancer diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Currently, cell-assisted lipotransfer (CAL) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) -assisted lipotransfer have been used to overcome the low survival rate of conventional lipotransfer. However, there is still insufficient evidence to determine which technique is the best strategy for autologous fat grafting in breast cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of traditional fat transplantation, CAL, and PRP-assisted lipotransfer. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in several databases including PUBMED, Web of Science, Cochrane, ClinicalTrials.gov, and EMBASE from January 21, 2024, to identify studies that met the inclusion criteria. Twelve studies were included after a rigorous selection process based on predefined criteria. Statistical analyses were conducted using R Ver. 4.0.5 with the netmeta and dmetar packages, employing a frequentist approach with a random-effects model. A network meta-analysis was performed to compare different fat graft procedures regarding fat survival rate and complication events. The review protocol was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024501780). RESULTS: The results indicate that CAL and PRP-assisted lipotransfer are better than traditional fat grafts in terms of fat survival rate. And there is no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the CAL group, PRP group, and traditional group. CONCLUSION: Based on the results of network meta-analysis, it appears that both CAL and PRP-assisted lipotransfer have a higher fat survival rate for autologous fat grafting in breast augmentation and reconstruction. However, the transplantation strategy still needs to be analyzed based on actual conditions in clinical applications.

It has been demonstrated that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are associated with the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Nevertheless, the function of circSLC16A10 in the development of DR remains unclear. In order to investigate the role of circSLC16A10, we employed cell and animal models of DR. An analysis of a public database revealed that hsa_circSLC16A10 was expressed at lower levels in DR patients than in diabetic patients without DR or healthy controls. Additionally, the level of hsa_circSLC16A10 was lower in high glucose (HG)-exposed ARPE-19 cells and diabetic mice. hsa_circSLC16A10 was observed to be mainly distributed in the cytoplasm. Moreover, overexpression of hsa_circSLC16A10 alleviated HG-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress and cell apoptosis in vitro. Furthermore, overexpression of hsa_circSLC16A10 ameliorated HG-induced mitochondrial dysfunction, as evidenced by improvements in mitochondrial structure and function. hsa_circSLC16A10 acted as a hsa-miR-761-5p sponge to increase MFN2 expression. MFN2 knockdown or hsa-miR-761-5p overexpression partially reversed the protective effect of hsa_circSLC16A10 in vitro. The protective effect of mmu_circSLC16A10 against DR was confirmed in an animal model of DR. These findings indicate that circSLC16A10 may regulate DR progression by improving mitochondrial function via the miR-761-5p/MFN2 axis.

ABSTRACT

We report two previously undiscovered phases of GeTe including the sphalerite (c-) phase and the hexagonal (h-) phase with interlayer van der Waals gaps. A polymorphic phase transformation from rhombohedral α-GeTe to c- and h-GeTe at near room temperature is first realized via electron beam irradiation. Their underlying thermodynamics and kinetics are illustrated using the in situ heating experiments and molecular dynamics simulations. Density-functional theory calculations indicate that c-GeTe exhibits typical metallic behavior and h-GeTe is a narrow-gap semiconductor with a strong spin-orbital coupling effect. Our findings shed light on a strategy for designing GeTe-based quantum devices compromising nanopillars and heterostructures via an atomic-scale electron beam lithography technique.

As emerging environmental contaminants, nanoplastics (NPs) are progressively accumulating in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems worldwide, posing a potential threat to human health. The liver is considered as one of the primary organs targeted by NPs accumulation in living organisms. However, there remains a large knowledge gap concerning NPs-induced hepatotoxicity. In this study, we examined the impact of chronic exposure to environmentally relevant doses of polystyrene (PS) NPs on hepatic pyroptosis in mice. The results demonstrated that both particle sizes of PS-NPs (100 nm and 500 nm) significantly triggered pyroptosis in the mouse liver, as evidenced by the upregulation of GSDMD-N protein levels; moreover, this pyroptotic effect induced by 100 nm PS-NPs was more pronounced compared to that of 500 nm PS-NPs. Mechanistically, exposure to 100 nm and 500 nm PS-NPs resulted in an upregulation of TXNIP protein expression, thereby activating NLRP3 inflammasome and subsequently inducing inflammatory responses and pyroptosis. Notably, following the termination of PS-NPs exposure and a subsequent recovery period of 50 days, PS-NPs-mediated inflammation and pyroptosis via TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway were effectively ameliorated, even returning to levels close to the baseline. Collectively, our findings provide novel evidence for the size-dependence and reversibility of NPs-induced hepatic pyroptosis through TXNIP/NLRP3/GSDMD pathway in vivo.

The highly structured design of metasurfaces greatly facilitates the manipulation of near-field radiative heat transfer (NFRHT). In this study, we incorporate magneto-optical materials into metasurfaces to theoretically explore the mechanism for controlling NFRHT between anisotropic magneto-optical metasurfaces. Our findings indicate that the interaction between the magnetization-induced modes, arising from interband transitions of graphene, and the surface modes of InSb under a magnetic field leads to a transition in the heat transfer spectrum from a dual band to a triple band. The modification of the distribution and magnitude of transmission wave vectors in surface electromagnetic modes by magnetic fields serves to modulate the radiative heat flux. By combining active control by a magnetic field with passive structural design of metasurfaces, the regulation of heat flux can be increased by more than 8-fold compared with the planar configuration. Additionally, the magnetic field amplifies the anisotropy of the photon energy distribution induced by the symmetry breaking of the metasurface structure. This study is anticipated to provide a pathway for achieving flexible tuning of NFRHT by combining active and passive regulation. It also opens up possibilities for multiband information transmission and for improving the performance of energy conversion devices.

ABSTRACT

Adipose tissue plays critical roles in an individual's aging process. In this research, we use single-nucleus RNA sequencing to create highly detailed transcriptional maps of subcutaneous adipose tissue and visceral adipose tissue in young and aged mice. We comprehensively identify the various cell types within the white adipose tissue of mice, our study has elucidated seven distinct cell types within this tissue. Further analyses focus on adipocytes, fibro-adipogenic progenitors, and immune cells, revealing age-related declines in the synthetic metabolic activity of adipocytes, diminished immune regulation, and reduced maturation or proliferation of fibroblasts in undifferentiated adipocytes. We confirm the presence of distinct subpopulations of adipocytes, highlighting decreases in adipogenesis subgroups due to aging. Additionally, we uncover a reduction in immune cell subpopulations, driven by age-associated immune system dysregulation. Furthermore, pseudo-time analyses indicate that Adipocyte1 represents the 'nascent' phase of adipocyte development, while Adipocyte2 represents the 'mature' phase. We use cell-cell interaction to explore the age-dependent complexities of the interactions between FAPs and adipocytes, and observed increased expression of the inflammation-related Retn-Tlr4 interaction in older mice, while the anti-inflammatory Angpt1-Tek interaction was only detected in young mice. These transcriptional profiles serve as a valuable resource for understanding the functional genomics underlying metabolic disorders associated with aging in human adipose tissue.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) leads to severe inflammation and lung injury. Our previous study showed that Ac2-26 (an active n-terminal peptide of Annexin A1) can reduce acute lung injury. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Ac2-26 on lung injury in CPB rats. METHODS: Forty rats were randomly divided into the sham, CPB, Ac, Ac/serine/threonine kinase 1 (AKT1), and Ac/ glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3ß groups. The rats in the sham group only received anesthesia, intubation, and cannulation. The rats in the other 4 groups received the standard CPB procedure. The rats in the CPB, Ac, Ac/AKT1, and Ac/GSK3ß groups were immediately injected with saline, Ac2-26 (1 mg/kg), Ac2-26 combined with short hairpin RNA (AKT1), or Ac2-26 combined with a GSK3ß inhibitor after CPB. At 12 h after the end of CPB, the PaO2/ fraction of inspired oxygen ratio, wet/dry weight ratio and protein content in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were recorded. The numbers of macrophages and neutrophils in the BALF and blood were determined. Cytokine levels in the blood and BALF were investigated. Lung tissue histology and apoptosis were estimated. The expression of nuclear factor kappa- B, AKT1, GSK3ß, endothelial nitric oxide synthase and apoptosis-related proteins was analyzed. The survival of all the rats was recorded. RESULTS: Compared with the rats in the sham group, all the parameters examined worsened in the rats that received CPB. Compared with those in the CPB group, Ac2-26 significantly improved pulmonary capillary permeability, reduced cytokine levels, and decreased histological scores and apoptosis. The protective effect of Ac2-26 on lung injury was significantly reversed by AKT1 short hairpin RNA or a GSK3ß inhibitor. CONCLUSIONS: Ac2-26 significantly reduced lung injury and inflammation after CPB. The protective effect of Ac2-26 mainly depended on the AKT1/GSK3ß/endothelial nitric oxide synthase pathway.
