ABSTRACT

Herein, we synthesized two donor-acceptor (D-A) type small organic molecules with self-assembly properties, namely MPA-BT-BA and MPA-2FBT-BA, both containing a low acidity anchoring group, benzoic acid. After systematically investigation, it is found that, with the fluorination, the MPA-2FBT-BA demonstrates a lower highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level, higher hole mobility, higher hydrophobicity and stronger interaction with the perovskite layer than that of MPA-BT-BA. As a result, the device based-on MPA-2FBT-BA displays a better crystallization and morphology of perovskite layer with larger grain size and less non-radiative recombination. Consequently, the device using MPA-2FBT-BA as hole transport material achieved the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.32 % and remarkable stability. After being kept in an N2 glove box for 116 days, the unsealed PSCs' device retained 93 % of its initial PCE. Even exposed to air with a relative humidity range of 30±5 % for 43 days, its PCE remained above 91 % of its initial condition. This study highlights the vital importance of the fluorination strategy combined with a low acidity anchoring group in SAMs, offering a pathway to achieve efficient and stable PSCs.

ABSTRACT

Precursor method is a well-known technology for preparing certain functional materials. In this work, a novel 3d-4f bimetallic organic framework, denoted as 45MCeCo (45 M representing 4,5-imidazole dicarboxylic acid), was successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal technique. The compound thus obtained has the molecular formula of C10H11CeCoN4O12. By meticulously controlling the amounts of the experimental materials, it was feasible to prepare flower-like crystals possessing identical single crystal structures and significantly larger specific surface areas. As a precursor for electrode materials, this structure underwent calcination at different temperatures to prepare Co3O4/CeO2 composites with in situ composite heterostructures. Post-electrochemical tests revealed that CeO2 remains unreactive across all potentials, thereby contributing to the stabilization of the electrode material structure. In contrast, Co3O4 participated in redox reactions to provide a specific capacity to the sample. In addition, when comparing the performance of the electrode material under different calcination conditions, it became evident that the material exhibited optimal electrochemical performance when subjected to a temperature of 700 °C for 2 h.

ABSTRACT

To solve the safety problem of spontaneous combustion of high-sulfur coal, applied microbiology, physical chemistry, reaction kinetics theory, combined with the SEM, FTIR and TG-DTG-DSC experiments and analysis of testing methods, the microbial desulfurization experiments were carried out, and the change law of the desulfurization reaction of coal before and after the element composition, main physical and chemical properties, the coal spontaneous combustion point was studied. The results show that when the temperature is 30°C, the coal particle size is 120 mesh, the initial pH value is 2.0 and the bacteria liquid amount is 15 mL, the desulfurization effect of the coal sample is the best, and the maximum desulfurization rate can reach 75.12%. There is obvious erosion on the surface of the coal sample after microbial desulfurization, the pyrite in the coal is obviously reduced, and the molecular structure in the coal is basically unchanged. Under the action of microorganism, part of inorganic sulfur in coal is removed, the spontaneous combustion point of coal is increased by 50°C, the activation energy of coal has increased more than three times, and the possibility of spontaneous combustion of coal is reduced. By analyzing the reaction kinetics of the microbial desulfurization process, it can be seen that the microbial desulfurization reaction is controlled by external diffusion, internal diffusion and chemical reaction, among which internal diffusion is the main influencing factor.

ABSTRACT

Host immune activation is critical for enterovirus 71 (EV71) clearance and immunopathogenesis. However, the mechanism of innate immune activation, especially of cell membrane-bound toll-like receptors (TLRs), against EV71 remains unknown. We previously demonstrated that TLR2 and its heterodimer inhibit EV71 replication. In this study, we systematically investigated the effects of TLR1/2/4/6 monomers and TLR2 heterodimer (TLR2/TLR1, TLR2/TLR6, and TLR2/TLR4) on EV71 replication and innate immune activation. We found that the overexpression of human- or mouse-derived TLR1/2/4/6 monomers and TLR2 heterodimer significantly inhibited EV71 replication and induced the production of interleukin (IL)-8 via activation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways. Furthermore,human-mouse chimeric TLR2 heterodimer inhibited EV71 replication and activated innate immunity. Dominant-negative TIR-less (DN)-TLR1/2/4/6 did not exert any inhibitory effects, whereas DN-TLR2 heterodimer inhibited EV71 replication. Prokaryotic expression of purified recombinant EV71 capsid proteins (VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4) or overexpression of EV71 capsid proteins induced the production of IL-6 and IL-8 via activation of the PI3K/AKT and MAPK pathways. Notably, two types of EV71 capsid proteins served as pathogen-associated molecular patterns for TLR monomers (TLR2 and TLR4) and TLR2 heterodimer (TLR2/TLR1, TLR2/TLR6, and TLR2/TLR4) and activated innate immunity. Collectively, our results revealed that membrane TLRs inhibited EV71 replication via activation of the antiviral innate response, providing insights into the EV71 innate immune activation mechanism.

ABSTRACT

It has been reported that 10 to 15% of young normogonadotrophic women show suboptimal response to standard long protocols. Letrozole (LE), an aromatase inhibitor, was shown to improve ovarian sensitivity to follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and follicular response to gonadotrophin treatment in poor ovarian response patients. We reasoned that it might be possible to utilize LE in young normogonadotrophic patients with unexpected hypo-response in standard gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist long protocol. A total of 652 patients defined as normogonadotrophic patients with unexpected hypo-response were divided into 2 groups, the +LE group and the +Gn group. +LE group: A fixed daily dose of 2.5 mg of LE was added on day 8 of stimulation. +Gn group: A fixed daily dose of 75 U of human menopausal gonadotrophin was added on day 8 of stimulation. The primary outcome measures were the number of oocytes obtained, fertilization rate, days of stimulation, and total FSH dosage. The secondary outcome measures were the implantation rate and ongoing pregnancy rate. There were no significant differences in the clinical and hormonal characteristics between the 2 groups. A shorter duration of stimulation and a lower dosage of recombinant FSH consumption on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin administration were all observed in the +LE group. Patients who received LE therapy showed a higher number of oocytes obtained and significantly higher fertilization rates. The implantation rate and ongoing pregnancy rate were comparable in both groups. LE significantly improves the number of oocytes obtained in patients with suboptimal response to standard gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist long protocol.

ABSTRACT

Apple geminivirus 1 (AGV) in the genus Maldovirus of the family Geminiviridae was first identified infecting apple trees in the year 2015 in China. In this work, we characterized three isolates of the AGV in the Chinese pearleaf crabapple (Malus asiatica) in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The viruses were detected by Illumina sequencing and its existence was confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) amplification of an AGV fragment. Between the three AGV isolates and the initially characterized AGV isolate PL2015, the nucleotide sequence identities of the complete genome ranged from 91.2 to 91.7%, of the coat protein gene (V1) ranged from 95.4% to 97.3%, and of the replicase gene (C1) ranged from 87.3% to 88.0%. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the three isolates formed a monophyletic group together with the AGV, separated from the current genera in the family Geminiviridae. This is the first description of the AGV infecting crabapples.

ABSTRACT

The restriction of intramolecular motion (RIM) and restricted access to a conical intersection (RACI) have been accepted as general working mechanisms for aggregation-induced emission (AIE) phenomena. However, as the family of AIE molecules grows, the RIM and RACl mechanisms cannot be used to fully understand some AIE phenomena. Herein, the restriction of the photoinduced electron transfer (RPET) state is proposed to rationalize the AIE phenomena of trityl-functionalised maleimide molecule based on density functional theory calculations. The "state-crossing from a locally excited to an electron transfer state" (SLEET) model was employed to predict the ON/OFF molecular PET in solution and solid states. According to the SLEET model, we showed that a non-emissive electron transfer excited state leads to the fluorescence quenching of trityl-functionalised maleimide in solution. However, due to the reduced polarity of the environment in aggregates, the electron transfer state is thermodynamically inaccessible, and a low-lying locally excited state exhibits intense emission. These findings provide a theoretical foundation to understand the working mechanisms of AIE molecules and the design of new AIEgens. We expect that the RPET mechanism can be used to screen potential AIEgens using the SLEET model.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level during the early controlled ovarian stimulation can be used as a predictor of the ovarian response in the in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) cycles. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The participants of this retrospective study were chosen from Reproductive Medicine Center, Weifang People's Hospital between January 2015 and December 2020.The participants of this study met the age of 20~43 years old, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) ≥ 1.2 ng/mL, antral follicle count (AFC) ≥ 5, and the data was complete and no cancellation cycle. Each participant was given GnRH agonist protocol and given a fixed dose of recombinant FSH in the first four days during the controlled ovarian stimulation (COS). According to the number of oocytes retrieved, the participants were divided into two different ovarian response groups. Serum FSH level after the fourth recombinant follicle stimulating hormone (rFSH) injection were compared during the different ovarian responders. RESULTS: The number of participants who met both the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria was 235. Serum sFSH levels (mean: 11.76 ± 3.10 IU/L) in the inappropriate responders was significantly higher than serum sFSH levels (mean: 10.79 ± 2.52 IU/L) in the superior responders(p = 0.029). There was a weak correlation between serum sFSH levels and the number of oocytes retrieved (r = -0.134, p = 0.041). Serum sFSH levels had significant clinical valuable (p = 0.0346) in predicting the number of oocytes retrieved. CONCLUSIONS: Serum sFSH levels may be a potential marker to predict the ovarian response during the early COS in the IVF/ICSI cycles, which can guide the adjustment of the exogenous rFSH dose.

ABSTRACT

To reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion during coal storage and transportation, microbial desulfurization technology is used to reduce the content of inorganic sulfur in coal. A strain of Aciditithiobacillus ferrooxidans was purified from coal mine water in Datong, Shanxi Province, and its desulfurization test conditions were optimized. Taking the inorganic sulfur removal rate of coal as the response value. The Plackett-Burman design method was used to screen the main factors affecting the response value. And the response surface method was used to establish the continuous variable surface model to determine the interaction between the factors. The results show that the three main factors affecting the response value and their significance order are temperature > coal particle size > desulfurization time, and the interaction between temperature and coal particle size has the greatest effect. When the temperature is 29.50°C, the coal size is 100 mesh, and the desulfurization time is 11.67 days, the desulfurization effect is the best, and the removal rate of inorganic sulfur can reach 79.78%, which is close to the predicted value, and the regression effect is wonderful.

ABSTRACT

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological autoimmune disease, affecting the psychological and physical health of patients. Manual therapies have been proven to relieve pain, strengthen muscles, and improve bladder and bowel problems with a high safety and low adverse event profile. Previous studies have reported the results of manual therapy in alleviating symptoms associated with MS, but the conclusions were controversial. Objective: The purpose of this meta-analysis is to comprehensively analyze and determine the efficacy and safety of manual therapy in relieving symptoms associated with MS. Methods: Eight electronic databases were searched from inception of the database to April 30, 2021. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using manual therapy in patients to relieve symptoms associated with MS were considered eligible for this study. Two reviewers independently extracted data using pre-established standards. Results: Finally, 10 eligible RCTs with 631 subjects were included in this meta-analysis. These data establish that massage therapy can significantly ameliorate fatigue, pain, and spasms, while reflexology was only effective in relieving pain in MS patients. No adverse events were reported in eligible RCTs. Conclusions: The present study provides strong evidence that massage therapy could alleviate fatigue, pain, and spasms in MS patients, while reflexology plays a positive role in relieving pain. Physicians could consider massage therapy or reflexology as a safe and effective complementary and alternative treatment. Larger RCTs with higher methodological quality are needed in the future, which aim to provide more meaningful evidence for further proof of efficacy.

ABSTRACT

Chiral drugs are of great significance in drug development and life science because one pair of enantiomers has a different combination mode with target biological active sites, leading to a vast difference in physical activity. Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based chiral hybrid materials with specific chiral sites have excellent applications in the highly effective sensing of drug enantiomers. Sitagliptin and clonidine are effective curing drugs for controlling diabetes and hypertension, while insulin and norepinephrine are the biomarkers of these two diseases. Excessive use of sitagliptin and clonidine can cause side effects such as stomach pain, nausea, and headaches. Herein, through post-synthetic strategy, MOF-based chiral hybrid material Eu-BTB@d-carnitine (H3BTB = 1,3,5-benzenetrisbenzoic acid) was synthesized. Eu-BTB@d-carnitine has dual emission peaks at 417 and 616 nm when excited at 330 nm. Eu-BTB@d-carnitine can be applied in luminescent recognition toward sitagliptin and clonidine with high sensitivity and low detection limit (for sitagliptin detection, Ksv is 7.43 × 106 [M-1]; for clonidine detection, Ksv is 9.09 × 106 [M-1]; limit of detection (LOD) for sitagliptin is 10.21 nM, and LOD of clonidine is 8.34 nM). In addition, Eu-BTB@d-carnitine can further realize highly sensitive detection of insulin in human fluids with a high Ksv (2.08 × 106 [M-1]) and a low LOD (15.48 nM). On the other hand, norepinephrine also can be successfully discriminated by the hybrid luminescent platform of Eu-BTB@d-carnitine and clonidine with a high Ksv value of 4.79 × 106 [M-1] and a low LOD of 8.37 nM. As a result, the chiral hybrid material Eu-BTB@d-carnitine can be successfully applied in the highly effective ratiometric sensing of curing drugs and biomarkers for diabetes and hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Porous boron nitride (BN) nanorods, which were synthesized via a one-stage pyrolysis, exhibited excellent catalytic performance for organics' degradation via peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. The origin of the unexpected catalytic function of porous BN nanorods was proposed, in which non-radical oxidation driven by the defects on porous BN dominated the sulfamethoxazole degradation via the generation of singlet oxygen (1O2). The adsorption energy between PMS and BN was calculated via density functional theory (DFT), and the PMS activation kinetics were further investigated using an electrochemical methodology. The evolution of 1O2 was verified by electron spin resonance (ESR) and chemical scavenging experiments. The observed non-radical oxidation presented a high robustness in different water matrices, combined with a series of much less toxic intermediates. The used BN was easily regenerated by heating in air, in which the B-O bond was fully recovered. These findings provide new insights for BN as a non-metal catalyst for organics' degradation via PMS activation, in both theoretical and practical prospects.

ABSTRACT

RATIONALE: Heterotopic pregnancy (HP) is defined as the simultaneous presence of intrauterine pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy (EP). HP after bilateral salpingectomy is extremely rare and may lead to serious complications if it is misdiagnosed and untreated timely. Here, we presented the first reported case of uterine serosal HP in a woman after assisted reproductive technology with bilateral salpingectomy because of bilateral tubal ectopic pregnancy. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 27-years-old pregnant woman after in vitro fertilization with bilateral salpingectomy complained of a sudden onset of unprovoked abdominal pain, which was persistent and dull. She denied vaginal bleeding. DIAGNOSES: Serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin levels are difficult to predict HP. Transvaginal ultrasonography demonstrated 1 gestational sac in the uterine cavity and 1 thick-walled cystic mass over the upper of the uterus, with a large amount of fluid in the Pouch of Douglas. Emergency laparotomy revealed a uterine serosal pregnancy combined with intrauterine pregnancy. INTERVENTIONS: This patient was successfully managed via emergency laparotomy to remove residual tissue and repair the rupture of the uterine serosal pregnancy. OUTCOMES: At postoperative 4 days, repeat transvaginal ultrosonography presented 1 intrauterine gestational sac with a visible fetal bud and cardiac tube pulsation. Now the patient recover well and is in an ongoing pregnancy. LESSONS: It is noteworthy that HP/ectopic pregnancy is still not prevented after bilateral salpingectomy. In cases of multiple embryo transfer, even if intrauterine pregnancy has been established, it is important to rule out HP/ectopic pregnancy in time. Early diagnosis and early management can significantly improve clinical outcomes.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To re-evaluate the clinical efficacy of Longjintonglin Capsules (LJTL) in the treatment of chronic prostatitis with damp-heat stasis syndrome. METHODS: This multicenter real-world study included 1 352 cases of chronic prostatitis with damp-heat and stagnation syndrome treated with LJTL (3 capsules once, tid, 30 minutes after meals, for 2 four-week courses) in addition to routine treatment. Before and after treatment, we analyzed the NIH-CPSI scores, the scores of Chinese medicine symptom quantitative classification and changes in individual symptom scores, and observed adverse reactions to medication. RESULTS: The total effectiveness rate of LJTL was 93.64%. Compared with the baseline, the NIH-CPSI scores were significantly decreased after treatment (ï¼»24.27 ± 6.04ï¼½ vs ï¼»8.17 ± 4.21ï¼½, P < 0.05), and so were the scores on the pain symptoms (ï¼»9.63 ± 3.65ï¼½ vs ï¼»3.02 ± 2.23ï¼½, P < 0.05), voiding symptoms (ï¼»5.65 ± 2.15ï¼½ vs ï¼»1.62 ± 1.36) and quality of life (ï¼»8.96 ± 2.32ï¼½ vs ï¼»3.16 ± 1.89ï¼½, P < 0.05). The effectiveness rate of LJTL was 95.9% on the Chinese medicine symptom frequent urination, 90.4% on painful urination, and 91.4% scanty dark urine, with a total effectiveness rate of 82.4% - 95.9%, all with statistically significant difference in comparison with the baseline (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Longjintonglin Capsules combined with routine treatment can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of chronic prostatitis with damp-heat stasis syndrome, especially effective on the symptoms of frequent urination, painful urination and scanty dark urine. Besides, it recommendable for its antidepressant and antianxiety effects, and the effect of improving the quality of life of the chronic prostatitis patients with damp-heat stasis.

ABSTRACT

We aimed to explore the clinicopathologic and histologic characteristics, as well as the (differential) diagnosis of retroperitoneal malignant solitary fibrous tumors (RMSFTs) in this study. Nine cases of RMSFTs were recruited and identified by an experienced pathologist from the Pathology Department of Beijing Shijitan Hospital. Clinical information was extracted from medical records and obtained by phone calls. A systematic review of published literature on RMSFTs was conducted using PubMed. A pre-specified search strategy was adopted using the key words "solitary fibrous tumor" and "retroperitoneum." Case reports and literature published in the China Academic Journals (CNKI) and WAN FANG databases were also included. In total, 58 patients (33 males and 25 females) were included; their age ranged from 17 to 83 years, with a median age of 52 years. The tumor size ranged from 4 to 36 cm, and most patients had abdominal masses and pain. Of these patients, 56 underwent surgical resection, and two patients died and underwent an autopsy. All patients were followed up for up to 288 months (with a median follow-up of 36 months). RMSFTs are extremely rare. Their diagnosis mainly relies on the histological morphology and the expression profiles of a panel of pathologic molecules measured by immunohistochemistry. Diagnosis of RMSFTs is usually based on the expression of biomarkers such as vimentin, CD34, Bcl-2, CD99, and STAT6. Differential diagnosis includes spindle-shaped cell tumors, such as schwannoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, synovial sarcoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, and fibrosarcoma. RMSFTs are prone to recur and even metastasize. Complete resection remains a major treatment, and close follow-up is highly recommended.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a highly malignant sarcoma that occurs in the abdominopelvic cavities of adolescents. The accurate diagnosis of DSRCT is challenging owing to limited literatures. Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between clinicopathological features and prognosis in patients with DSRCTs. METHODS: Data of 8 patients with DSRCT originating from the abdominal cavity were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical manifestations, pathological characteristics, treatment approaches, and prognosis were analyzed. The histopathological (identified using hematoxylin-eosin staining), immunohistochemical, and molecular diagnostic (using fluorescence in situ hybridization) features were also reviewed. RESULTS: All patients were male aged between 24 and 45 years (median age, 30 years). The main clinical symptoms included abdominal distension, abdominal pain, and constipation. Seven of the 8 patients developed metastases to either distant organs or lymph nodes. Multiple gray nodules with diameters of 1-10 cm and poorly defined boundaries were scattered throughout the omentum and mesentery. Histopathological examination demonstrated well-defined nests composed of small round blue cells separated by markedly desmoplastic stroma. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed positive expressions of desmin, vimentin and C-terminal of Wilm's tumor suppressor (WT-1). The Ewing sarcoma breakpoint region 1 gene fused with WT1 (EWSR1-WT1) gene fusion was detected in all patients. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) was performed in 6 patients. Follow-up period ranged from 7.5 to 28.5 months with a median of 17.2 months. Three patients died during follow-up. CONCLUSION: DSRCT is highly aggressive and presents distinctive morphological features. CRS is the essential therapy for DSRCT. A test for the combined expression of desmin, cytokeratins, and C-terminal of WT-1, as well as the analysis of morphologic features, might be helpful during DSRCT diagnosis, and the EWSR1-WT1 gene fusion is the gold standard for definitive diagnosis. Our work will provide new insights into the diagnosis and treatment of DSRCTs.

ABSTRACT

In industry, over usage of Cu2+ and Al3+ will lead to toxic wastewater, which further to give serious pollution for the environment. On the other hand, L-lysine can enhance serotonin release in the amygdala, with subsequent changes in psychobehavioral responses to stress. Therefore it is the urgent problem to design a method for detecting the amount of Cu2+, Al3+, and L-lysine. In this work, through the solvothermal synthesis method, two new coordination complexes based on the new bifunctional building block 4'-(1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-yl)- [1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carboxylic acid (HL) have been synthesized, namely, [Zn(L)2·4H2O] (complex 1) and [Cd(L)2·4H2O] (complex 2). X-ray single-crystal diffractometer was used to analyze its structure, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns confirmed that 1 and 2 powder's purity and 1 can keep stable during the detection process of Cu2+, Al3+, and L-lysine, respectively. Elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, infrared analysis, ultraviolet analysis and fluorescent spectrum have been used to characterize these complexes. The photo-luminescent test showed that 1 can accurately recognize Al3+ and Cu2+ among various cations. On the other hand, 1 can distinguish L-lysine among amino acid molecules. Therefore, 1 can be utilized as a multifunctional fluorescent probe for Al3+(Ksv = 1.5570 × 104 [M]-1), Cu2+(Ksv = 1.4948 × 104 [M]-1) and L-lysine (Ksv = 4.9118 × 104 [M]-1) with low detection limits (17.5 µM, 18.2 µM, 5.6 µM) respectively.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: A renal biopsy is needed to define active inflammatory infiltration and guide therapeutic management in drug-induced acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (D-ATIN). However, factors such as various contraindications, refusal of informed consent and limited technical support may stop the biopsy process. It is thus of great importance to explore approaches that could deduce probable pathologic changes. METHODS: A total of 81 biopsy-proven D-ATIN patients were enrolled from a prospective cohort of ATIN patients at Peking University First Hospital. The systemic inflammation score (SIS) was developed based on the CRP and ESR levels at biopsy, and patients were divided into high-SIS, median-SIS, and low-SIS groups. The demographic data, clinicopathologic features, and renal outcomes were compared. RESULTS: The SIS was positively correlated with inflammatory cell infiltration and was inversely correlated with interstitial fibrosis. The number of interstitial inflammatory cells increased significantly with increasing SISs. The proportions of neutrophils and plasma cells were the highest in the high-SIS group compared with the other two groups. Prednisone (30-40 mg/day) was prescribed in all patients. The high-SIS group tended to have more favorable renal restoration than the other two groups. By 12 months postbiopsy, a decreased eGFR (< 60 mL/min/1.73 m2) was observed in 66.7% of medium-SIS patients, 32.4% of high-SIS patients, and 30.4% of low-SIS patients. CONCLUSION: The SIS was positively correlated with active tubulointerstitial inflammation and therefore could help to aid therapeutic decisions in D-ATIN.

ABSTRACT

The use of organic photo-redox catalysts to initiate well-controlled photochemical reactions has aroused great interest. The development of visible light-driven photocatalytic reactions, which enable rapid and efficient synthesis of fine products, is highly desired from the perspective of being able to achieve low cost, good reversibility, and environmental friendliness. Herein, the organic photocatalytic cycle, with organic dithienophosphole (DTP) derivatives Ph-DTP and TPA-DTP as the photo-redox catalysts, and iodonium salt (Ar2I+) and ethyl 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate (EDB) as the respective acceptor and donor substrates, is fully analyzed by using density functional theory and dissociative electron transfer theory. We show that the strong redox potentials in the excited state as well as the sufficiently long-lived excited state of both DTP derivatives are a robust driving force for activating the electron acceptor Ar2I+ in the activation process. Moreover, the activation barriers of electron transfer are only 0.43-11.9 kcal mol-1 for the different activation pathways. During the deactivation process, the reaction energy profiles indicate that EDB plays a vital role in reducing DTPs˙+ to their initial states. Importantly, the activation barriers and rate constants in both activation and deactivation processes obtained in this study are better than those of classic Cu-based and metal-free Ph-PTZ-based photo-redox catalysts. The excellent performance of both DTP derivatives thus enables them to be highly efficient organic photo-redox catalysts.

ABSTRACT

The alteration of host cell splicing is a major strategy favouring viral replication; however, the interaction between human tonsillar epithelial cells (HTECs) and enterovirus 71 (EV71) has not been fully elucidated. Here, a total of 201 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 3266 novel genes with coding potential were identified. A total of 3479 skipped exons (SEs), 515 alternative 3' splice sites (A3SSs), 391 alternative 5' splice sites (A5SSs), 531 mutually exclusive exons (MXEs) and 825 retained introns (RIs) were identified as significantly altered alternative splicing (AS) events. The enriched DEGs were mainly related to the cell cycle, spliceosome, and Toll-like receptor (TLR) signalling pathways. Finally, the replication of EV71 was significantly inhibited by TLR2 heterodimers. Our findings suggest that AS events induced by EV71 increase the transcriptomic diversity of HTECs in response to EV71 infection. Additionally, TLR2 heterodimers have the potential to protect HTECs against EV71.
