Currently, there are increasingly diverse treatment modalities for chronic functional constipation (CFC). This study aims to compare the relative efficacy and safety of chemical drugs, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), probiotics, dietary fiber, and acupuncture in the treatment of patients with CFC. We searched relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in five databases up to November 2023. Network meta-analysis (NMA) was carried out using R Studio 4.2.1. Cumulative ranking probability plots, assessed through the surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA), were employed to rank the included drugs for various outcome measures. We included a total of 45 RCT studies with 17 118 patients with CFC. From the SUCRA values and NMA results FMT showed the best utility in terms of clinical efficacy, Bristol stool form scale scores, patient assessment of constipation quality of life scores, and the treatment modality with the lowest ranked incidence of adverse effects was electroacupuncture. Subgroup analysis of the chemotherapy group showed that sodium A subgroup analysis of the chemical group showed that sodium picosulfate 10 mg had the highest clinical efficacy. FMT is more promising in the treatment of CFC and may be more effective in combination with the relatively safe treatment of acupuncture.

Iodine-doped bromide perovskite single crystals (IBPSCs) have important applications in optoelectronic fields, such as in solar cells. Currently, much research has aimed to study the phase separation phenomenon and device performance improvements in IBPSCs. However, important intrinsic photoexcited carrier dynamics are often overlooked in IBPSCs. Here, we explored the photoexcited carrier dynamics in typical iodine-doped MAPbBr3 single crystals using the excitation intensity-dependent steady-state photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) technique. We found that the trap state density changes with an increase in the amount of doped iodine. Further, we noticed that there is an influence of carrier diffusion on the photoexcited carrier dynamics, and then, we evaluated the carrier diffusion coefficients and recombination constants via numerical simulations of the PL kinetics. Consequently, we found that the electron shallow trap-related carrier behaviors substantially impacted the PL kinetics. Our results greatly facilitate a deeper understanding of the fundamental characteristics of mixed halide perovskite material.

Nowadays, the extensively used lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dot (QD) hole transport layer (HTL) relies on layer-by-layer method to replace long chain oleic acid (OA) ligands with short 1,2-ethanedithiol (EDT) ligands for preparation. However, the inevitable significant volume shrinkage caused by this traditional method will result in undesired cracks and disordered QD arrangement in the film, along with adverse increased defect density and inhomogeneous energy landscape. To solve the problem, a novel method for EDT passivated PbS QD (PbS-EDT) HTL preparation using small-sized benzoic acid (BA) as intermediate ligands is proposed in this work. BA is substituted for OA ligands in solution followed by ligand exchange with EDT layer by layer. With the new method, smoother PbS-EDT films with more ordered and closer QD packing are gained. It is demonstrated stronger coupling between QDs and reduced defects in the QD HTL owing to the intermediate BA ligand exchange. As a result, the suppressed nonradiative recombination and enhanced carrier mobility are achieved, contributing to ≈20% growth in short circuit current density (Jsc) and a 23.4% higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 13.2%. This work provides a general framework for layer-by-layer QD film manufacturing optimization.

Objective: The aim of this study was to systematically review the clinical efficacy and safety of standardized Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) in the adjuvant treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Methods: Relevant RCTs on GBE as adjuvant therapy for ICH were searched in seven Chinese and English databases. Data extraction of the included literature was performed after duplicate checking and screening, and Stata 15.1 software was applied for data analysis. Results: With a total of 19 RCTs, the meta-analysis results showed that: Compared with conventional treatment alone, GBE combined with conventional treatment had a higher effective rate; NIHSS score and CSS score were lower; The residual hematoma was less. The volume of cerebral edema was smaller. ADL score was higher. MoCA score was higher. The serum levels of hs-CRP, TNF-α and IL-6 were lower; No significant difference was observed in the incidence of adverse reactions between conventional treatment alone and GBE combined with conventional treatment. Conclusion: This study suggests that GBE as adjuvant therapy for ICH has better efficacy and is relatively safe compared with conventional treatment alone. However, due to the quality and quantity of included studies, further validation by more methodologically rigorous and multi-center studies with larger sample sizes is needed.

Cs2NaInCl6 double perovskites, which have excellent photoelectric conversion properties and are non-toxic and lead-free, have recently gained significant attention. In particular, double-perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are viewed as a promising material for optoelectronic device applications. Ligands such as oleic acid (OA) and oleylamine (OAm) are essential for the synthesis of perovskite QDs, but their specific roles in double-perovskite QDs remain unclear. In this study, we have investigated the binding of OA and OAm to Cs2NaInCl6 QDs through FTIR and NMR and their effects on the surface defect reduction and stability improvement for Cs2NaInCl6 QDs. We found that only OAm was bound to the QD surfaces while OA was not. The OAm has a significant effect on the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) improvement by passivating the QD surface defects. The stability of the QDs was also evaluated, and it was observed that OA played a significant role in the stability of the QDs. Our findings provide valuable insights into the roles of ligands in influencing the photophysical properties and stability of lead-free double-perovskite QDs.

Inorganic tin (Sn) perovskite nanocrystals offer a promising solution to the potential toxicity concerns associated with their established lead (Pb)-based counterparts. Yet, achieving their superior stability and optoelectronic properties remains an ongoing challenge. Here, we report a synthesis of high-symmetry α-phase CsSnI3 nanocrystals with an ultralong 278 ns carrier lifetime, exceeding previous benchmarks by 2 orders of magnitude through meticulous Sn(IV) control. The nanocrystals demonstrate excellent colloidal stability, uniform monodispersity, and a distinct exciton peak. Central to these outcomes is our designed solid-liquid antioxidation suspension of tri-n-octylphosphine (TOP) and zerovalent tin (Sn(0)) that fully addresses the unique coexisting oxygen-driven and solvent-driven Sn oxidation mechanisms in Sn perovskite nanocrystal synthesis. We uncover the largely undervalued function of TOP in mitigating oxygen-driven Sn oxidation and introduce Sn(0) powder to generate a synergistic antioxidation function with TOP, significantly reducing Sn(IV)-induced defects and distortions and contributing to enhanced optoelectronic properties. Strikingly, this approach also profoundly impacts inorganic Sn-Pb perovskite nanocrystals, boosting lifetimes by 2 orders of magnitude and increasing photoluminescence quantum yield over 100-fold to 35%. Our findings illuminate the potential of Sn-based nanocrystals for optoelectronic applications.

BACKGROUND: The onset of colorectal adenomas (CRAs) is significantly associated with colorectal cancer. The preventive effects of chemical drugs on the recurrence of CRAs have been evaluated in a large number of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). However, there are still uncertainties about the relative effectiveness of such chemical drugs. METHODS: We searched relevant RCTs published in six databases up to February 2023. The quality of the included studies was assessed by using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool and Review Manager 5.4. Pairwise comparison and network meta-analysis (NMA) were conducted using RStudio to compare the effects of chemical drugs on the recurrence of CRAs. RESULTS: Forty-five high-quality RCTs were included. A total of 35 590 (test group: 20 822; control group: 14 768) subjects with a history of CRAs have been enrolled and randomized to receive placebo treatment or one of 24 interventions. Based on surface under the cumulative ranking values and NMA results, difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) + Sulindac significantly reduced the recurrence of CRAs, followed by berberine and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs. CONCLUSION: DFMO + Sulindac is more effective in reducing the recurrence of CRAs but has a high risk of adverse events. Considering drug safety, tolerance, and compliance, berberine has a brighter prospect of clinical development. However, further studies are needed to verify our findings.

Prioritizing attention to reward-predictive items is critical for survival, but challenging because these items rarely appear in the same feature or within the same environment. However, whether attention selection can be adaptively tuned to items that matched the context-dependent, relative feature of previously rewarded items remains largely unknown. In four experiments (N = 40 per experiment), we trained participants to learn the color-reward association and then adopted visual search tasks in which the color of a singleton distractor matched either the feature value (e.g., red or yellow) or feature relationship (i.e., redder or yellower) of previously rewarded colors. We consistently found enhanced attentional capture by a singleton distractor when it was relationally matched to the high reward compared with the low reward relationship, in addition to observing the typical effect of learned value on singletons matching the previously rewarded colors. Our findings provide novel evidence for the flexibility of value-driven attention via feature relationship, which is particularly useful given the changeable sensory inputs in real-world searches. PURPOSE: This study aims to analyze the correlation between the prognosis of osteochondral lesions of the talus and patient age, gender, duration of illness, and injury location, surface area, depth, and volume. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 44 patients who underwent talus osteochondral transplantation in the Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery of our hospital between January 2017 and December 2020 was performed. The clinical medical records of the patients were collected, and the location of the osteochondral lesion of the talus was determined according to the nine-division method. The surface area, depth, and volume of the osteochondral lesion of the talus were measured using mimics software in all patients. The visual analog scale (VAS), the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), and the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire scores were evaluated before surgery and at the last follow-up, and correlation analysis was performed. RESULTS: Of 44 patients, 30 were followed up with a mean period of 24.33 ± 12.19 months. There were 18 men and 12 women, with an average age of 40.73 ± 10.57 years and an average disease duration of 28.30 ± 21.25 months. The VAS, AOFAS, and SF-36 scores of all patients at the last follow-up were significantly better than those before surgery. The degree of post-operative symptom improvement was not correlated with age, sex, duration of illness, and injury location, surface area, depth, and volume. CONCLUSION: The prognosis of osteochondral lesion of the talus is not related to patient age, gender, duration of disease, or injury location, surface area, depth, and volume.

BACKGROUND: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by a polyglutamine expansion in the ataxin-1 protein. The pathogenic mechanism resulting in SCA1 is still unclear. Protein-protein interactions affect the function and stability of ataxin-1. METHODS: Wild-type and mutant ataxin-1 were expressed in HEK-293T cells. The levels of expression were assessed using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blots. Co-immunoprecipitation was done in HEK-293T cells expressing exogenous wild-type and mutant ataxin-1 using anti-Flag antibody following by tandem affinity purification in order to study protein-protein interactions. The candidate interacting proteins were validated by immunoprecipitation. Chromatin immunoprecipitation and high-throughput sequencing and RNA immunoprecipitation and high-throughput sequencing were performed using HEK-293T cells expressing wild-type or mutant ataxin-1. RESULTS: In this study using HEK-293T cells, we found that wild-type ataxin-1 interacted with MCM2, GNAS, and TMEM206, while mutant ataxin-1 lost its interaction with MCM2, GNAS, and TMEM206. Two ataxin-1 binding targets containing the core GGAG or AAAT were identified in HEK-293T cells using ChIP-seq. Gene Ontology analysis of the top ataxin-1 binding genes identified SLC6A15, NTF3, KCNC3, and DNAJC6 as functional genes in neurons in vitro. Ataxin-1 also was identified as an RNA-binding protein in HEK-293T cells using RIP-seq, but the polyglutamine expansion in the ataxin-1 had no direct effects on the RNA-binding activity of ataxin-1. CONCLUSIONS: An expanded polyglutamine tract in ataxin-1 might interfere with protein-protein or protein-DNA interactions but had little effect on protein-RNA interactions. This study suggested that the dysfunction of protein-protein or protein-DNA interactions is involved in the pathogenesis of SCA1.

PURPOSE: The optimal surgical approach for early-stage rectal cancer remains controversial. Radical resection is considered to be the gold standard for rectal cancer treatment. More and more studies show that local resection can replace traditional radical resection in the treatment of early rectal cancer. This research aimed to compare the efficacy of local excision and radical surgery for early-stage rectal cancer and report the evidence-based clinical advantages of both techniques. METHODS: The clinical trials comparing oncological and perioperative local and radical resection outcomes for early-stage rectal cancer were searched from 7 national and international databases. RESULTS: Finally, 3 randomized controlled trials and 14 cohort studies were included. In terms of oncology and perioperative outcomes, there were no statistically significant differences between the radical resection group and the local resection group in terms of OS (HR = 1.05, 95% CI (0.98, 1.13), DFS [HR = 1.18, 95% CI (0.93, 1.48), p = 0.168), distant metastasis rate (RR = 1.04, 95% CI (0.49, 2.20), p = 0.928), and mortality rate (RR = 1.52, 95% CI (0.80, 2.91), p = 0.200). However, there were significant differences in the outcomes of complications (RR = 2.85, 95% CI (2.07, 3.92), p < 0.001), length of hospital stays (WMD = 5.41, 95% CI (3.94, 6.87), p < 0.001), stoma rate (RR = 7.69, 95% CI (2.39, 24.77), p = 0.001), local recurrence rate (RR = 0.48, 95% CI (0.27, 0.86), p = 0.013), operative time (WMD = 74.68, 95% CI (68.00, 81.36), p < 0.001), blood loss (WMD = 156.36, 95% CI (95.48, 217.21, p < 0.001), and adverse events (RR = 1.59, 95% CI (1.05, 2.41), p = 0.027). CONCLUSION: Local excision may be a viable alternative to radical resection for early-stage rectal cancer, but higher quality clinical studies are needed to confirm this.

RÉSUMÉ

The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Apogonichthyoides taeniatus (Cuvier, 1828) is determined. The mitochondrial genome is 17,050 in length and has the same composition and gene order like most other vertebrates. The phylogenetic analysis based on 13 concatenated PCGs nucleotide sequences among 20 species showed that this species has high support with the sister branch Jaydia lineata. Our findings provide useful information for phylogenetic and evolutionary research of Kurtiformes species.

Electron recombination in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) results in significant electron loss and performance degradation. However, the reduction of electron recombination via blocking layers in nanowire-based DSSCs has rarely been investigated. In this study, HfO2 or TiO2 blocking layers are deposited on nanowire surfaces via atomic layer deposition (ALD) to reduce electron recombination in nanowire-based DSSCs. The control cell consisting of ITO nanowires coated with a porous shell of TiO2 by TiCl4 treatment yields an efficiency of 2.82%. The efficiency increases dramatically to 5.38% upon the insertion of a 1.3 nm TiO2 compact layer between the nanowire surface and porous TiO2 shell. This efficiency enhancement implies that porous sol-gel coatings on nanowires (e.g., via TiCl4 treatment) result in significant electron recombination in nanowire-based DSSCs, while compact coatings formed by ALD are more advantageous because of their ability to act as a blocking layer. By comparing nanowire-based DSSCs with their nanoparticle-based counterparts, we find that the nanowire-based DSSCs suffer more severe electron recombination from ITO due to the much higher surface area exposed to the electrolyte. While the insertion of a high band gap compact layer of HfO2 between the interface of the conductive nanowire and TiO2 shell improves performance, a comparison of the cell performance between TiO2 and HfO2 compact layers indicates that charge collection is suppressed by the difference in energy states. Consequently, the use of high band gap materials at the interface of conductive nanowires and TiO2 is not recommended.

Establishing a blocking layer between the interfaces of the photoanode is an effective approach to improve the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In this work, HfO2 blocking layers are deposited via atomic layer deposition (ALD) onto tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) and TiO2. In both cases, addition of the blocking layer increases cell efficiencies to greater than 7%. The improved performance for a HfO2 layer inserted between the ITO/TiO2 interface is associated with an energy barrier that reduces electron recombination. HfO2 blocking layers between the TiO2/dye interface show more complex behavior and are more sensitive to the number of ALD cycles. For thin blocking layers on TiO2, the improved device performance is attributed to the passivation of surface states in TiO2. A distinct transition in dark current and electron lifetime are observed after 4 ALD cycles. These changes to performance indicate thick HfO2 layers on TiO2 formed an energy barrier that significantly hinders cell performance.
