RÉSUMÉ

The optical analogs of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) have attracted vast attention recently. The generation and manipulation of EIT in microcavities have sparked research in both fundamental physics and photonic applications, including light storage, slow light propagation, and optical communication. In this Letter, the generation and tuning of an all-optically controlled mode-coupling induced transparency (MCIT) are proposed, experimentally demonstrated, and theoretically analyzed. The MCIT effect originated from the intermodal coupling between the plethora of modes generated in our fabricated optical microcavity, and the tuning of the transparency mode utilized the cavity's thermal bistability nature. Furthermore, based on our method, a novel, to the best of our knowledge, controlling of the mode shifting efficiency is also achieved with an increase up to two times and more. The proposed scheme paves a unique, simple, and efficient way to manipulate the induced transparency mode, which can be useful for applications like cavity lasing and thermal sensing.

RÉSUMÉ

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate risk factors for acute exacerbation of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (AE-IPF) based on baseline high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT). METHODS: This prospective observational study enrolled patients with IPF treated at the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University between January 2019 and January 2021. HRCT-derived quantitative parameters at baseline were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 102 patients [92 (90.2%) males with a mean age of 67 years] with IPF were included, with a median follow-up of 32 (24-40.5) months. AE occurred in 30 (29.4%) IPF patients. Multivariable logistic regression analysis identified Doppler transthoracic echocardiography suggestive of pulmonary hypertension (PH) (13.43; 95% CI: 4.18-41.09; P < 0.001), honeycombing (OR 1.08; 95% CI: 1.02-1.14; P = 0.013), and whole lung volume (OR 0.99; 95% CI: 0.99-1.00; P = 0.037) as independent risk factors for AE-IPF. The combination of PH, honeycombing, whole lung volume, and the percentage of predicted forced vital capacity (FVC% pred) showed a high area under the curve from receiver operating characteristic curves of 0.888, with a sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 78%. CONCLUSIONS: This study emphasizes that quantitative CT parameters (honeycombing, whole lung volume) may serve as risk factors for AE-IPF. The combination of honeycombing, whole lung volume, FVC% pred, and PH may aid in predicting AE-IPF.

RÉSUMÉ

OBJECTIVE: Hysteroscopic surgery will stimulate the autonomic nerves innervating the uterus, causing intense discomfort and pain in the examined person, and in severe cases, it will cause blood pressure drop, heart rate slowing, arrhythmia and even cardiac arrest, so most patients need anesthetic intervention. This study to retrospectively compare the anesthetic effect of remimazolam and propofol in minimally invasive painless hysteroscopic surgery and to explore the safety and efficacy of remimazolam. METHODS: The clinical data of 110 female patients who underwent painless hysteroscopic minimally invasive surgery in our hospital from January 2023 to June 2023 were collected. The patients were divided into the remimazolam group (group R, n = 55) and the propofol group (group P, n = 55) according to the main anesthetic drugs used during the operation. The changes in heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), and respiratory rate (RR) at the time of entry (T0), modified vigilance/sedation score (MOAA/S) 0 (T1), cervical dilation (T2), end of the operation (T3) and anesthesia recovery (T4) were compared between the two groups. Anesthesia induction time, operation time, and anesthesia recovery time were compared between the two groups, and the incidence of intraoperative and postoperative adverse reactions was compared between the two groups. RESULTS: HR, MAP, and SpO2 in group R were significantly higher than those in group P at T1, T2, T3, and T4 (p < 0.05), and there was no significant difference in RR between the two groups (p > 0.05). HR, MAP, and SpO2 at T1 and T2 were significantly lower than those at T0 in group R (p < 0.05), and RR at different time points in the group had no significant difference (p > 0.05). HR, MAP, and SpO2 at T1, T2, T3, and T4 were significantly lower than those at T0 in group P (p < 0.01), and RR at different time points in the same group had no significant difference (p > 0.05). The anesthesia induction time in group R was more prolonged than in group P, and the anesthesia recovery time in group R was shorter than in group P (p < 0.05). The incidences of hypotension, bradycardia, low oxygen saturation, respiratory depression, and injection pain in group R were significantly lower than those in group P (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Intravenous induction of remimazolam at 6 mg·kg-1·h-1 and maintenance of anesthesia at 1-2 mg·kg-1·h-1 have less effect on hemodynamics, faster recovery time and lower incidence of adverse reactions compared with propofol when used in minimally invasive hysteroscopic surgery. Remimazolam can be safely and effectively used in this kind of surgery.

RÉSUMÉ

Unleashing the potential of lithium-metal anodes in practical applications is hindered by the inherent stress-related challenges arising from their limitless volume expansion, leading to mechanical failures such as electrode cracking, solid electrolyte interphase damage, and dendritic growth. Despite the various protective strategies to "combat" stress in lithium-metal anodes, they fail to address the intrinsic issue fundamentally. Here, a unique strategy is proposed that leverages the stress generated during the battery cycling via the piezoelectric effect, transforming to the adaptive built-in electric field to accelerate lithium-ion migration, homogenize the lithium deposition, and alleviate the stress concentration. The mechanism of the piezoelectric effect in modulating electro-chemomechanical field evolution is further validated and decoupled through finite element method simulations. Inspired by this strategy, a high sensitivity, fast responsive, and strength adaptability polymer piezoelectric is used to demonstrate the feasibility and the corresponding protected lithium-metal anode shows cycling stability over 6000 h under a current density of 10 mA cm-2 and extending life in a variety of coin and pouch cell systems. This work effectively tackles the stress-related issues and decoupling the electro-chemomechanical field evolution also contributes to developing more stable lithium anodes for future research.

RÉSUMÉ

Nonlinear epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) nanodevices featuring vanishing permittivity and CMOS-compatibility are attractive solutions for large-scale-integrated systems-on-chips. Such confined systems with unavoidable heat generation impose critical challenges for semiconductor-based ENZ performances. While their optical properties are temperature-sensitive, there is no systematic analysis on such crucial dependence. Here, we experimentally report the linear and nonlinear thermo-optic ENZ effects in indium tin oxide. We characterize its temperature-dependent optical properties with ENZ frequencies covering the telecommunication O-band, C-band, and 2-µm-band. Depending on the ENZ frequency, it exhibits an unprecedented 70-93-THz-broadband 660-955% enhancement over the conventional thermo-optic effect. The ENZ-induced fast-varying large group velocity dispersion up to 0.03-0.18 fs2nm-1 and its temperature dependence are also observed for the first time. Remarkably, the thermo-optic nonlinearity demonstrates a 1113-2866% enhancement, on par with its reported ENZ-enhanced Kerr nonlinearity. Our work provides references for packaged ENZ-enabled photonic integrated circuit designs, as well as a new platform for nonlinear photonic applications and emulations.

RÉSUMÉ

In mode-locked fiber lasers, the formation of ultrashort pulses from noisy or unstable states is a crucial area of research. Investigating these complex nonlinear dynamics can lead to valuable insights and new practical engineering techniques, particularly for the design and optimization of optical systems. Time-stretch dispersive Fourier transform, utilized in our study to investigate dissipative solitons formation in a net-normal dispersion nonlinear polarization evolution mode-locked fiber laser, provides a window into the intricate dynamics of such systems. In our experiments, the identification of five distinct transient stages in the formation process sheds light on the underlying mechanisms of dissipative soliton (DS) formation. The five distinct transient stages involved in the formation process include relaxation oscillation, modulation instability, spectral broadening, soliton explosions (SEs), and stable mode-locking. Notably, we also observed the generation of dissipative rogue waves during the SE stage. Our findings shed light on the intricate dynamics of DS formation and offer valuable insights for the design and optimization of mode-locked fiber lasers.

RÉSUMÉ

Epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials have attracted great interest due to their exotic linear and nonlinear responses, which makes it significant to tune ENZ wavelengths for wavelength-dependent applications. However, studies to achieve tunability in a wide spectral range and link the fabrication parameters with linear and nonlinear ENZ properties have been uncovered. ENZ indium tin oxide (ITO) nanofilms are fabricated by magnetron sputtering, through which the control of ENZ properties is demonstrated. Factors in the sputtering process, such as the gas ratio and annealing, have a great impact on the ITO samples. Tunable ENZ parameters are listed to provide a beneficial database for ENZ ITO, mainly attributed to the change of carrier concentration. The influence of ENZ parameters on optical characteristics via annealing treatment is further explored. The ENZ wavelength is blue-shifted by 609 nm, and the intrinsic loss is reduced by 63.2%, while the ITO samples exhibit better linear scattering properties and stronger field intensity enhancement. Additionally, the laser testing system illustrates the change from reverse saturable absorption to saturable absorption with an absolute modulation depth of 21.9%, improved by 222.1%, and the nonlinear refractive index n2 and nonlinear absorption coefficient ß are 2.07 × 10-16 m2 W-1 and -3.16 × 10-10 m W-1 for post-annealed ITO samples, respectively. The proposed sputtering protocol offers a feasible technique to control the linear and nonlinear ENZ performance, which has great potential in laser technology and nanophotonics.

RÉSUMÉ

Through symbiosis with plants, arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi effectively improve the availability of soil nitrogen (N). However, the mechanism through which AM and associated extraradical mycelium affect soil N mineralization remains unknow. We carried out an in situ soil culture experiment by using in-growth cores in plantations of three subtropical tree species, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Schima superba, and Liquidambar formosana. We measured soil physical and chemical properties, net N mineralization rate, and the activities of four kinds of hydrolase (leucine aminopeptidase (LAP), ß-1,4-N-acetylglucosaminidase (NAG), ß-1,4-glucosidase (ßG), cellobiohydrolase (CB)) and two kinds of oxidases (polyphenol oxidase (POX) and peroxidase (PER)) involved in soil organic matter (SOM) mineralization in treatments of mycorrhiza (with absorbing roots and hyphae), hyphae (hyphae only), and control (mycorrhiza-free). The results showed that mycorrhizal treatments significantly affected soil total carbon and pH but did not affect N mineralization rates and all enzymatic activities. Tree species significantly affected net ammonification rate, net N mineralization rate and activities of NAG, ßG, CB, POX and PER. The net N mineralization rate and enzyme activities in the C. lanceolata stand were significantly higher than that in monoculture broad-leaved stands of either S. superba or L. formosana. There was no interactive effect of mycorrhizal treatment and tree species on any of soil properties, nor on enzymatic activities or net N mineralization rates. Soil pH was negatively and significantly correlated with five kinds of enzymatic activities except for LAP, while net N mineralization rate significantly correlated with ammonium nitrogen content, available phosphorus content, and the activity level of ßG, CB, POX, and PER. In conclusion, there was no difference in enzymatic activities and N mineralization rates between rhizosphere and hyphosphere soils of three subtropical tree species in the whole growing season. The activity of particular carbon cycle-related enzymes was closely related to soil N mineralization rate. It is suggested that differences in litter quality and root functional traits among different tree species affect soil enzyme activities and N mineralization rates through organic matter inputs and shaping soil condition.

RÉSUMÉ

OBJECTIVE: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a common extramuscular manifestation of the anti-synthetase syndrome (ASS). Patients with ASS-ILD are at risk in developing a progressive fibrosing phenotype despite appropriate treatments. This study investigated the risk factors and the predictive value of multiple risk factors for progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) in patients with ASS-ILD. METHODS: Ninety patients with a diagnosis of ASS and evidence of ILD on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) were recruited. Among them, 72 participants completed follow-up for more than 12 months. These patients were further divided into a PPF-ASS group (n = 18) and a non-PPF-ASS group (n = 54). Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the risk factors for PPF. The predictive value of the combined risk factors for predicting PPF were analyzed by a ROC curve. RESULTS: The PPF-ASS group had a higher rate of positive non-Jo-1 antibodies, a significantly higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and a significantly lower PaO2/FiO2 ratio and diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO%pred) than the non-PPF-ASS group. In addition, elevated serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) level and reticular opacities were significantly more common, and corticosteroid monotherapy at onset was administered more frequently in the PPF-ASS group. The median duration of follow-up was 37.4 months, survival was poorer in the PPF-ASS group, and the overall survival was 88.9%. Multivariate regression analysis further revealed that positive non-Jo-1 antibodies, NLR, and KL-6 were independent risk factors for PPF. These combined indexes had good accuracy (area under the curve = 0.874) in predicting PPF in patients with ASS-ILD. CONCLUSION: Positive non-Jo-1 antibodies, NLR, and serum KL-6 are independent risk factors for PPF in patients with ASS-ILD. Monitoring these markers can potentially predict PPF in this group of patients. Key Points • Positive non-Jo-1 antibodies, NLR, and serum KL-6 are independent risk factors associated with PPF in patients with ASS-ILD. • Monitoring non-Jo-1 antibodies, NLR, and serum KL-6 can potentially predict PPF in patients with ASS-ILD.

RÉSUMÉ

A series of complex physical and chemical processes, such as interception, migration, accumulation, and transformation, can occur when pollutants in stormwater runoff enter the growing media layer of bioretention facilities, affecting the purification of stormwater runoff by bioretention facilities. The migration and accumulation of pollutants in the growing media layer need long-term monitoring in traditional experimental studies. In this study, we established the Hydrus-1D model of water and solution transport for the bioretention facilities. By analyzing the variation of cumulative fluxes of NO3--N and Pb with time and depth, we investigated pollutant migration and accumulation trends in the growing media layer of bioretention facilities. It can provide support for reducing runoff pollutants in bioretention facilities. The Hydrus-1D model was calibrated and verified with experimental data, and the input data (runoff pollutant concentration) for the pollutant concentration boundary was obtained from the SWMM model. The results demonstrated that the cumulative fluxes of NO3--N and Pb increased with the passage of simulation time and depth of the growing media layer overall. From the top to the bottom of the growing media layer, the change rates of the peak cumulative fluxes of NO3--N and Pb were strongly linked with their levels in the runoff. An increase in rainfall decreased the content of NO3--N and Pb in the growing media layer, and this phenomenon was more obvious in the lower part of the layer.

RÉSUMÉ

Based on the molecular energy transfer mechanism, relative gains at 1067 and 637 nm wavelengths are achieved in thermally activated delayed fluorescence molecule AQ(PhDPA)2 and Nd complex with chelating phosphine oxide as ligands codoped polymer waveguides, with the excitation of low-power UV light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of traditional semiconductor lasers as pump sources. For AQ(PhDPA)2 -Nd(DBTTA)3 (DBFDPO) (DBTTA = dibenzotetrathienoacene, DBFDPO = 4,6-bis (diphenylphosphoryl) dibenzofuran) -codoped polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), and AQ(PhDPA)2 -Nd(DBTTA)3 (FDPO) (FDPO = 9,9-bis (diphenylphosphorylphenyl) fluorene)-codoped PMMA polymers with a mass ratio of 1:4 respectively, when they are spin-coated as upper claddings, the relative gains of 2.2 and 1.8 dB cm-1 at 1067 nm are obtained in evanescent-field waveguides with cross-section of 4 × 8 µm2 under excitation of 300 mW 405 nm LED, and the gains of 3.9 and 4.9 dB cm-1 at 637 nm are achieved with pumping of 530 mW 450 nm LED respectively. By growing a 100 nm-thick aluminum reflector with the waveguides, the optical gain at 1067 and 637 nm can be enhanced to 3.5 and 6.1 dB cm-1 , corresponding to AQ(PhDPA)2 -Nd(DBTTA)3 (DBFDPO) and AQ(PhDPA)2 -Nd(DBTTA)3 (FDPO)-codoped PMMA polymers, respectively.

RÉSUMÉ

Modification of aluminosilicate minerals using a R4N+-bearing organic modifier, through the formation of covalent bonds, is an applicable way to eliminate the modifier release and to maintain the ability to remove cationic pollutants. In this study, trimethyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (TM) and/or dimethyl octadecyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (DMO) were used to graft three aluminosilicate minerals, including calcined kaolinite (Kaol), montmorillonite (Mt), and zeolite (Zeol), and the obtained composites were deployed to assess their performance in regard to ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3-) adsorption. Grafting of TM and/or DMO had little influence on the crystal structures of Kaol and Zeol, but it increased the interlayer distance of Mt due to the intercalation. Compared to Kaol and Zeol, Mt had a substantially greater grafting concentration of organosilane. For Mt, the highest amount of loaded organosilane was observed when TM and DMO were used simultaneously, whereas for Kaol and Zeol, this occurred when only DMO was employed. 29Si-NMR spectra revealed that TM and/or DMO were covalently bonded on Mt. As opposed to NO3-, the amount of adsorbed NH4+ was reduced after TM and/or DMO grafting while having little effect on the adsorption rate. For the grafted Kaol and Zeol, the adsorption of NH4+ and NO3- was non-interfering. This is different from the grafted Mt where NH4+ uptake was aided by the presence of NO3-. The higher concentration of DMO accounted for the larger NO3- uptake, which was accompanied by improved affinity. The results provide a reference for grafting aluminosilicate minerals and designing efficient adsorbents for the co-adsorption of NH4+ and NO3-.

RÉSUMÉ

The digital economy plays a dual role in the process of global carbon emissions decoupling; for this reason, its overall impact direction and mechanism are worth discussing. This paper attempts to answer the question of the role of the digital economy, based on a review of the existing literature. By constructing a panel smooth transition regression (PSTR) model, this paper empirically tests the effect of the digital economy on carbon emissions decoupling, based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2010 to 2019. In order to study the impact mechanism of the digital economy on carbon emissions decoupling, the mediating effect of industrial structure optimization is analyzed through a mediating effect model; the moderating effect is also explored by analyzing the network centrality characteristics of the digital economy. The core-periphery analysis method is adopted to group the samples to test the impact heterogeneity of the digital economy on carbon emissions decoupling. Based on this empirical analysis, the following conclusions are drawn. First, the digital economy has a promoting effect on carbon emissions decoupling, but this effect gradually weakens with the development of the digital economy. Second, the digital economy can promote carbon emissions decoupling through industrial structure optimization, and network centrality has a positive moderating effect on this mechanism. Third, heterogeneity exists in the promoting effect of the digital economy on carbon emissions decoupling, which is reflected in the different intensities of the promotion effect between the core nodes and the peripheral nodes in the network; the attenuation range of the promotion effect is also different when the regime switches.

RÉSUMÉ

Solution processable quasi-2D (Q-2D) perovskite materials are emerging as a promising candidate for blue light source in full-color display applications due to their good color saturation property, high brightness, and spectral tunability. Herein, an efficient energy cascade channel is developed by introducing sodium bromide (NaBr) in phenyl-butylammonium (PBA)-containing mixed-halide Q-2D perovskites for a blue perovskite light-emitting diode (PeLED). The incorporation of alkali metal contributes to the nucleation and growth of Q-2D perovskites into graded distribution of domains with different layer number . The study of excitation dynamics by transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy confirms that NaBr induces more Q-2D perovskite phases with small n number, providing a graded energy cascade pathway to facilitate more efficient energy transfer processes. In addition, the nonradiative recombination within the Q-2D perovskites is significantly suppressed upon Na+ incorporation, as validated by the trap density estimation. Consequently, the optimized blue PeLEDs manifest a peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.0% emitting at 486 nm with a maximum luminance of 1699 cd m-2 . It is anticipated that these findings will improve the understanding of alkali-metal-assisted optimization of Q-2D perovskites and pave the way toward high-performance blue PeLEDs.

RÉSUMÉ

Soft interfaces with self-sensing capabilities play an essential role in environment awareness and reaction. The growing overlap between materials and sensory systems has created a myriad of challenges for sensor integration, including the design of a multimodal sensory, simplified system design capable of high spatiotemporal sensing resolution and efficient processing methods. Here we report a bioinspired soft sensor array (BOSSA) that integrates pressure and material sensing capabilities based on the triboelectric effect. Cascaded row + column electrodes embedded in low-modulus porous silicone rubber allow rich information to be captured from the environment and further analyzed by data-driven algorithms (multilayer perceptrons) to extract higher level features. BOSSA demonstrates the ability to identify 10 users (98.9%) and identify the placement or extraction of 10 objects (98.6%). Moreover, its scalable fabrication facilitates large-area sensor arrays with high spatiotemporal resolution and multimodal sensing abilities yet with a less complex system architecture. These features may be promising in the development of immersive sensing networks for intelligent monitoring and stimuli response in smart home/industry applications.

RÉSUMÉ

Curvature measurement plays an important role in structural health monitoring, robot-pose measuring, etc. High-resolution curvature measurement is highly demanded. In this paper, an optical curvature sensor with high resolution based on in-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) and microwave photonic filter (MPF) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The in-fiber MZI is constructed with a ring-core fiber (RCF) which is fusion spliced between two coreless fibers (CLFs). The structure of CLF-RCF-CLF is then sandwiched between two segments of single-mode fiber (SMF), making the whole interferometer structure of SMF-CLF-RCF-CLF-SMF. The operating principle is that different curvatures will cause the variations of the interference spectrum of MZI due to elastic-optic effect, and then the variations are converted into the frequency-shift of the MPF. The factors affecting the visibility of the interference spectrum are researched. A preliminary exploration of the multiplexing demodulation for the in-fiber-MZIs is also investigated and discussed, which is for the first time to the best of our knowledge, holding great potential to pave the way for constructing the sensing network composed of interferometric sensors. The curvature measurement sensitivity is -147.634 MHz/m-1, and the resolution is 6.774 × 10-6 m-1 which is the highest value up to now.

RÉSUMÉ

In this paper, we have proposed and experimentally demonstrated a multiplexed sensing interrogation technique based on a flexibly switchable multi-passband RF filter with a polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) Solc-Sagnac loop. A high-order Solc-Sagnac loop can be used as a spectrum slicer as well as sensing heads, and a multi-passband microwave photonic filter (MPF) can be achieved together with a dispersive medium. Environmental parameter variations will cause a frequency shift of the corresponding passband of the MPF, so by employing only one Sagnac loop, it is possible to monitor several environmental parameters simultaneously. In this article, we have demonstrated and analyzed the performance of the flexibly switchable multi-passband MPF by using a second-order Solc-Sagnac loop. To demonstrate the temperature sensing capabilities of our interrogation system, we have applied temperature changes individually to Sensor Head 1 (L P M F 1 ≈0.97m) only, Sensor Head 2 (L P M F 2 ≈2.97m) only, and both Sensor Head 1 and 2 in the experiment. By monitoring frequency shift of the MPF's passbands, the sensitivities for Sensor Head 1 and Sensor Head 2 have been estimated to be -0.275 ± 0.011 MHz/℃ and -0.811 ± 0.013 MHz/℃ respectively, which show a good sensing linearity and stability. By utilizing the longer length of the sensing PMF, higher sensitivity can be achieved. By using Solc-Sagnac loop with higher order, more sensors can be multiplexed.
