RÉSUMÉ

Creating cross-linking to establish efficient inter-chain charge-transfer channels in carbon nitride represents a promising strategy for enhancing its photocatalytic capabilities. Molten salt-assisted calcining has emerged as a method for preparing cross-linked carbon nitrides. However, the precise influence of molten salts on the molecular structure of carbon nitride remains to be fully elucidated. Herein, we develop a KCl guided cross-linking reaction to preliminarily reveal the formation mechanism of cross-linking. The cross-linking reaction is initiated by the pre-coordination of amino groups with K+. Subsequent heating at high temperature converts the amino groups into chlorines. Then, dechlorination leads to the formation of cross-linking. Thus, this cross-linking reaction can be accurately described as a pre-coordination-induced, two-step deamination reaction. The pre-coordination step plays a pivotal role in the cross-linking process. Sufficient pre-coordination results in a relatively high cross-linking degree of the as-prepared CNK-2. Consequently, CNK-2 demonstrates a significantly enhanced photocatalytic H2O2 production, with a generation rate of 682 µmol·L-1·h-1, about 59 times that of traditional carbon nitride.

RÉSUMÉ

Graphite (Gr)-based lithium-ion batteries with admirable electrochemical performance below -20 °C are desired but are hindered by sluggish interfacial charge transport and desolvation process. Li salt dissociation via Li+-solvent interaction enables mobile Li+ liberation and contributes to bulk ion transport, while is contradictory to fast interfacial desolvation. Designing kinetically-stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) without compromising strong Li+-solvent interaction is expected to compatibly improve interfacial charge transport and desolvation kinetics. However, the relationship between physicochemical features and temperature-dependent kinetics properties of SEI remains vague. Herein, we propose four key thermodynamics parameters of SEI potentially influencing low-temperature electrochemistry, including electron work function, Li+ transfer barrier, surface energy, and desolvation energy. Based on the above parameters, we further define a novel descriptor, separation factor of SEI (SSEI), to quantitatively depict charge (Li+/e-) transport and solvent deprivation processes at Gr/electrolyte interface. A Li3PO4-based, inorganics-enriched SEI derived by Li difluorophosphate (LiDFP) additive exhibits the highest SSEI (4.89×103) to enable efficient Li+ conduction, e- blocking and rapid desolvation, and as a result, much suppressed Li-metal precipitation, electrolyte decomposition and Gr sheets exfoliation, thus improving low-temperature battery performances. Overall, our work originally provides visualized guides to improve low-temperature reaction kinetics/thermodynamics by constructing desirable SEI chemistry.

RÉSUMÉ

Brucella BP26 proves to be a highly immunogenic antigen with excellent specificity in brucellosis detection. In China, the authorized use of the Bp26-deleted vaccine M5ΔBP26 for preventing small ruminant brucellosis highlights the importance of developing accurate detection methods targeting BP26, particularly for the diagnosis of differentiation between infected and vaccinated animals (DIVA). Using the traditional mouse hybridoma technique, we successfully obtained 12 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) targeting BP26. The efficacy of these mAbs in detecting various animal brucellosis cases using the competitive ELISA method was evaluated. Among them, only the E10 mAb exhibited significant efficiency, being inhibited by 100, 97.62, and 100% of brucellosis-positive sera from cattle, small ruminants, and canines, respectively. The E10-based competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA) outperformed the BP26-based indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) in accuracy, particularly for cattle and small ruminant brucellosis, with cELISA sensitivity reaching 97.62% compared to 64.29% for iELISA for small ruminants. Although cELISA showed slightly lower specificity than iELISA, it still maintained high accuracy in canine brucellosis detection. The epitope of mAb E10 was identified in the amino acid sequence QPIYVYPDDKNNLKEPTITGY, suggesting its potential as a diagnostic antigen for brucellosis. In conclusion, the E10-based cELISA presents an effective means of detecting animal brucellosis, particularly significant for DIVA diagnosis in China, where the BP26-mutant vaccine is widely used.

RÉSUMÉ

Rechargeable sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as an advanced electrochemical energy storage technology with potential to alleviate the dependence on lithium resources. Similar to Li-ion batteries, the cathode materials play a decisive role in the cost and energy output of SIBs. Among various cathode materials, Na layered transition-metal (TM) oxides have become an appealing choice owing to their facile synthesis, high Na storage capacity/voltage that are suitable for use in high-energy SIBs, and high adaptivity to the large-scale manufacture of Li layered oxide analogues. However, going from the lab to the market, the practical use of Na layered oxide cathodes is limited by the ambiguous understanding of the fundamental structure-performance correlation of cathode materials and lack of customized material design strategies to meet the diverse demands in practical storage applications. In this review, we attempt to clarify the fundamental misunderstandings by elaborating the correlations between the electron configuration of the critical capacity-contributing elements (e.g., TM cations and oxygen anion) in oxides and their influence on the Na (de)intercalation (electro)chemistry and storage properties of the cathode. Subsequently, we discuss the issues that hinder the practical use of layered oxide cathodes, their origins and the corresponding strategies to address their issues and accelerate the target-oriented research and development of cathode materials. Finally, we discuss several new Na layered cathode materials that show prospects for next-generation SIBs, including layered oxides with anion redox and high entropy and highlight the use of layered oxides as cathodes for solid-state SIBs with higher energy and safety. In summary, we aim to offer insights into the rational design of high-performance Na layered oxide cathode materials towards the practical realization of sustainable electrochemical energy storage at a low cost.

RÉSUMÉ

A high-nuclear Co-added polyoxometalate (CoAP) was synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction: H14.5K9Na7.5-{[Co8(µ2-OH)(µ3-OH)2(H2O)2(Co(H2O)GeW6O26)(B-α-GeW9O34)2][BO(OH)2][Co12(µ2-OH)(µ3-OH)5(H2O)3(Co(H2O)GeW6O26)(GeW6O26)(B-α-GeW9O34)]}·46H2O (1). The polyoxoanion of 1 contains a large Co20 cluster gathered by lacunary GeW6O26 and GeW9O34 subunits. 1 represents a one-dimensional (1D) chain formed by adjacent polyoxoanions coupling through a CoO6 double bridge, showing the first example of a high-nuclear CoAP-based inorganic chain. 1 served as an efficient electrocatalyst in oxygen evolution reactions (OERs).

RÉSUMÉ

BACKGROUND: Shift work is associated with susceptibility to several neuropsychiatric disorders. This study aims to investigate the effect of shift work on the incidence of neuropsychiatric disorders, and highlighting how individual variability may influence the association. METHODS: UK Biobank participants with employment information were included. Cox survival was conducted in main and subgroup analyses. Correlation analyses explored the impact of shift work on brain structures, and mediation analyses were performed to elucidate the shared underlying mechanisms. Shift work tolerance was evaluated through survival analyses contrasting the risks associated with five neuropsychiatric disorders in shift versus non-shift workers across different demographic or occupational strata. RESULTS: The analysis encompassed 254,646 participants. Shift work was associated with higher risk of dementia (HR 1.29, 95 % CI 1.10-1.52), anxiety (1.08, 1.01-1.15), depression (1.29, 1.22-1.36), and sleep disorders (1.18, 1.09-1.28), but not stroke (p = 0.20). Shift work was correlated with decreasing volume of various brain regions, particularly in thalamus, lateral orbitofrontal, and middle temporal. Mediation analysis revealed that increased immune response and glucose levels are common pathways linking shift work to these disorders. We observed diversity in shift work tolerance across different individual characteristics, among which socioeconomic status and length of working hours were the most essential. LIMITATIONS: Self-reported employment information may cause misclassification and recall bias. And since we focused on the middle-aged population, the conclusions may not be representative of younger or older populations. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated the need to monitor shift worker health and provide personalized management to help adapt to shift work.

RÉSUMÉ

To fully understand the safety of DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccination, we evaluated the differences between DTaP-IPV/Hib co-administration and separate administration of the DTaP, IPV and Hib vaccines (DTaP+IPV+Hib) based on adverse events following immunization (AEFI). All AEFI reported in Hebei Province, China, between 2020 and 2022 were included in this study. The risk difference (RD%), relative risk (RR), and Chi-square value were used to compare the differences in reported rates of AEFI between the DTaP-IPV/Hib and DTaP+IPV+Hib groups. From 2020 to 2022, 130 AEFI cases were reported in Hebei Province after DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccination, corresponding to an AEFI reported rate of 66.9/million doses, which was significantly lower than that for DTaP+IPV+Hib (9836 AEFI with a reported rate of 637.8/million doses). The overall reported rate of non-severe AEFI for DTaP+IPV+Hib vaccines was 9.5 times that of DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccination [95% confidence interval (CI): 8.0, 11.3]. Meanwhile, the reported rate of AEFI among infants aged 0-1 y was 9.8 times higher for DTaP+IPV+Hib than for DTaP-IPV/Hib (95% CI: 8.2, 11.7). DTaP+IPV+Hib vaccination also resulted in higher risks of high fever, localized redness and swelling, localized induration, and allergic rash compared with DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccination. The risk of AEFI, which were mostly mild reaction, was higher after vaccination with DTaP+IPV+Hib than after DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccination.

RÉSUMÉ

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the severe loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, leading to motor dysfunction. The onset of PD is often accompanied by neuroinflammation and α-Synuclein aggregation, and extensive research has focused on the activation of microglial NLRP3 inflammasomes in PD, which promotes the death of dopaminergic neurons. In this study, a model of cerebral inflammatory response was constructed in wild-type and Parkin+/- mice through bilateral intraventricular injection of LPS. LPS-induced activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in wild-type mice promotes the progression of PD. The use of MCC950 in wild mice injected with LPS induces activation of Parkin/PINK and improves autophagy, which in turn improves mitochondrial turnover. It also inhibits LPS-induced inflammatory responses, improves motor function, protects dopaminergic neurons, and inhibits microglia activation. Furthermore, Parkin+/- mice exhibited motor dysfunction, loss of dopaminergic neurons, activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, and α-Synuclein aggregation beginning at an early age. Parkin +/- mice exhibited more pronounced microglia activation, greater NLRP3 inflammasome activation, more severe autophagy dysfunction, and more pronounced motor dysfunction after LPS injection compared to wild-type mice. Notably, the use of MCC950 in Parkin+/- mice did not ameliorate NLRP3 inflammasome activation, autophagy dysfunction, or α-synuclein aggregation. Thus, MCC950 can only exert its effects in the presence of Parkin/PINK1, and targeting Parkin-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation is expected to be a potential therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease.

RÉSUMÉ

The rapid proliferation of the halophilic pathogen Vibrio parahaemolyticus poses a severe health hazard to halobios and significantly impedes intensive mariculture. This study aimed to evaluate the potential application of gliding arc discharge plasma (GADP) to control the infection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in mariculture. This study investigated the inactivation ability of GADP against Vibrio parahaemolyticus in artificial seawater (ASW), changes in the water quality of GADP-treated ASW, and possible inactivation mechanisms of GADP against Vibrio parahaemolyticus in ASW. The results indicate that GADP effectively inactivated Vibrio parahaemolyticus in ASW. As the volume of ASW increased, the time required for GADP sterilization also increased. However, the complete sterilization of 5000 mL of ASW containing Vibrio parahaemolyticus of approximately 1.0 × 104 CFU/mL was achieved within 20 min. Water quality tests of the GADP-treated ASW demonstrated that there were no significant changes in salinity or temperature when Vibrio parahaemolyticus (1.0 ×104 CFU/mL) was completely inactivated. In contrast to the acidification observed in plasma-activated water (PAW) in most studies, the pH of ASW did not decrease after treatment with GADP. The H2O2 concentration in the GADP-treated ASW decreased after post-treatment. The NO2-concentration in the GADP-treated ASW remained unchanged after post-treatment. Further analysis revealed that GADP induced oxidative stress in Vibrio parahaemolyticus, which increased cell membrane permeability and intracellular ROS levels of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. This study provides a viable solution for infection with the halophilic pathogen Vibrio parahaemolyticus and demonstrates the potential of GADP in mariculture.

RÉSUMÉ

The ongoing tide of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) urgently calls for high-value output in efficient recycling. Recently, direct regeneration has emerged as a novel recycling strategy but fails to repair the irreversible morphology and structure damage of the highly degraded polycrystalline layered oxide materials. Here, this work carries out a solid-state upcycling study for the severely cracked LiNi1-x-yCoxMnyO2 cathodes. The specific single-crystallization process during calcination is investigated and the surface rock salt phase is recognized as the intrinsic obstacle to the crystal growth of the degraded cathodes due to sluggish diffusion in the heterogeneous grain boundary. Accordingly, this work revives the fatigue rock salt phase by restoring a layered surface and successfully reshapes severely broken cathodes into the high-performance single-crystalline particles. Benefiting from morphological and structural integrity, the upcycled single-crystalline cathode materials exhibit an enhanced capacity retention rate of 93.5% after 150 cycles at 1C compared with 61.7% of the regenerated polycrystalline materials. The performance is also beyond that of the commercial cathodes even under a high cut-off voltage (4.5 V) or high operating temperature (45 °C). This work provides scientific insights for the upcycling of the highly degraded cathodes in spent LIBs.

RÉSUMÉ

Visualizing lithium (Li) ions and understanding Li plating/stripping processes as well as evolution of solid electrolyte interface (SEI) are critical for optimizing all-solid-state Li metal batteries (ASSLMB). However, the buried solid-solid interfaces present a challenge for detection which preclude the employment of multiple analysis techniques. Herein, by employing complementary in situ characterizations, morphological/chemical evolution, Li plating/stripping dynamics and SEI dynamics were efficiently decoupled and Li ion behavior at interface between different solid-state electrolytes (SSE) was successfully detected. The innovative combining experiments of in situ atomic force microscopy and in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on Li metal anode revealed interfacial morphological/chemical evolution and decoupled Li plating/stripping process from SEI evolution. Though Li plating speed in Li10GeP2S12 (LGPS) was higher than Li3PS4 (LPS), speed of SSE decomposition was similar and ~85% interfacial SSE turned into SEI during plating and remained unchanged in stripping. To leverage strengths of different SSEs, an LPS-LGPS-LPS sandwich electrolyte was developed, demonstrating enhanced ionic conductivity and improved interfacial stability with less SSE decomposition (25%). Using in situ Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy, Li-ion behavior at interface between different SSEs was effectively visualized, uncovering distribution of Li ions at LGPS|LPS interface under different potentials.

RÉSUMÉ

To better understand the habitat preferences and behavioural ecology of Sparus latus, we performed an experiment using box-shaped reefs as habitat enrichment materials, allowing us to determine the behavioural strategies and drivers involved in the response to different enrichment structures. The results showed that the first contact time of S. latus was negatively correlated (Pearson's correlation, p < 0.005) with the distribution rate in the artificial reef area. Enrichment structures affected the habitat preferences of S. latus, and there was a significant difference in the average distribution rate between the control and treatment groups (Adonis, p < 0.001). The opening ratio (Adonis, R2 = 0.36) explained the distribution difference of S. latus better than the opening shape (Adonis, R2 = 0.12). In the absence of an enrichment structure, S. latus remained more active during the daytime, exhibiting poor clustering, while in the presence of an enrichment structure, S. latus exhibited clustered movement at night. The opening ratio was negatively correlated with the average interindividual distance (Spearman's correlation, p < 0.01) and showed a significant positive correlation with the average distribution rate in the reef area (Spearman's correlation, p < 0.001), indicating that the reef opening ratio significantly affected the reef-tropism and clustering behaviours of S. latus. The light intensity was negatively correlated with the average distance moved, and the average speed (Spearman's correlation, p < 0.05) was significantly positively correlated with the reef first contact time (Spearman's correlation, p < 0.001), indicating that the light intensity affected the exploration and activity patterns of S. latus. These results provide a research basis for analysing the pattern and process of fish proliferation induced by artificial reef habitats.

RÉSUMÉ

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a class of autoimmune diseases mainly caused by the immune system attacking the myelin sheath of the axons in the nervous system. Although the pathogenesis of MS is complex, studies have shown that dendritic cells (DCs) play a vital role in the pathogenesis of MS. Quercetin (QU) has a unique advantage in clinical application, especially for treating autoimmune diseases. However, the mechanism of QU in the treatment of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) remains unclear. In this study, we explore the potential role of QU in EAE. Finally, we find that QU has anti-inflammatory activities and neural protective effects in EAE. The experimental results suggest that the cellular basis for QU's function is to inhibit the activation of DCs while modulating the Th17 cell differentiation in the co-culture system. Further, QU may target STAT4 to inhibit its activation in DCs. This work will be of great significance for the future development and utilization of QU.

RÉSUMÉ

BACKGROUND: Tinnitus diagnosis poses a challenge in otolaryngology owing to an extremely complex pathogenesis, lack of effective objectification methods, and factor-affected diagnosis. There is currently a lack of explainable auxiliary diagnostic tools for tinnitus in clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop a diagnostic model using an explainable artificial intelligence (AI) method to address the issue of low accuracy in tinnitus diagnosis. METHODS: In this study, a knowledge graph-based tinnitus diagnostic method was developed by combining clinical medical knowledge with electronic medical records. Electronic medical record data from 1267 patients were integrated with traditional Chinese clinical medical knowledge to construct a tinnitus knowledge graph. Subsequently, weights were introduced, which measured patient similarity in the knowledge graph based on mutual information values. Finally, a collaborative neighbor algorithm was proposed, which scored patient similarity to obtain the recommended diagnosis. We conducted 2 group experiments and 1 case derivation to explore the effectiveness of our models and compared the models with state-of-the-art graph algorithms and other explainable machine learning models. RESULTS: The experimental results indicate that the method achieved 99.4% accuracy, 98.5% sensitivity, 99.6% specificity, 98.7% precision, 98.6% F1-score, and 99% area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the inference of 5 tinnitus subtypes among 253 test patients. Additionally, it demonstrated good interpretability. The topological structure of knowledge graphs provides transparency that can explain the reasons for the similarity between patients. CONCLUSIONS: This method provides doctors with a reliable and explainable diagnostic tool that is expected to improve tinnitus diagnosis accuracy.

RÉSUMÉ

The regulation of protein degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome system is essential for normal brain development, axon growth, synaptic growth and plasticity. The E3 ubiquitin ligase RFWD2 plays a key role in the onset and development of neurological diseases, including the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the mechanisms controlling the homeostasis of neuronal synaptic proteins are still poorly understood. Here, we showed that the expression level of RFWD2 gradually decreased with the age of the rats and was negatively correlated with the development of cerebral cortical neurons and dendrites in vivo. RFWD2 was shown to localize to presynaptic terminals and some postsynaptic sides of both excitatory synapses and inhibitory synapses via colocalization with neuronal synaptic proteins (SYN, PSD95, Vglut1 and GAD67). Overexpression of RFWD2 promoted dendrite development and dendritic spine formation and markedly decreased the expression of synaptophysin and PSD95 by reducing the expression of ETV1, ETV4, ETV5 and c-JUN in vitro. Furthermore, the whole-cell membrane slice clamp results showed that RFWD2 overexpression resulted in greater membrane capacitance in neuronal cells, inadequate cell repolarization, and a longer time course for neurons to emit action potentials with decreased excitability. RFWD2 regulates dendritic development and plasticity, dendritic spine formation and synaptic function in rat cerebral cortex neurons by activating the ERK/PEA3/c-Jun pathway via a posttranslational regulatory mechanism and can be used as an efficient treatment target for neurological diseases.

RÉSUMÉ

BACKGROUND: Wheat crown rot (WCR), primarily caused by Fusarium pseudograminearum has become more and more prevalent in winter wheat areas in China. However, limited fungicides have been registered for the control of WCR in China so far. Pyraclostrobin is a representative quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) with excellent activity against Fusarium spp. There is currently limited research on the resistance risk and resistance mechanism of F. pseudograminearum to pyraclostrobin. RESULTS: Here, we determined the activity of pyraclostrobin against F. pseudograminearum. The EC50 values ranged from 0.022 to 0.172 µg mL-1 with an average EC50 value of 0.071 ± 0.030 µg mL-1. Four highly pyraclostrobin-resistant mutants were obtained from two sensitive strains by ultraviolet (UV) mutagenesis in the laboratory. The mutants showed decreased mycelial growth rate and virulence as compared with the corresponding wild-type strains, indicating that pyraclostrobin resistance suffered a fitness penalty in F. pseudograminearum. It was found that the high resistance of four mutants was caused by the G143S mutation in Cytb. Molecular docking analysis also further confirms that the G143S mutation in Cytb decreased the binding affinity between pyraclostrobin and Cytb. CONCLUSION: The resistance risk of F. pseudograminearum to pyraclostrobin could be low to medium. Although a mutation at the G143S position of Cytb could potentially occur, this mutation decreases the fitness of the mutant, which may reduce its survival in the environment. Therefore, the negative consequences of a possible mutation are lower. This makes pyraclostrobin a good candidate for controlling crown rot in wheat. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

RÉSUMÉ

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the application value of combining the Demirjian's method with machine learning algorithms for dental age estimation in northern Chinese Han children and adolescents. METHODS: Oral panoramic images of 10 256 Han individuals aged 5 to 24 years in northern China were collected. The development of eight permanent teeth in the left mandibular was classified into different stages using the Demirjian's method. Various machine learning algorithms, including support vector regression (SVR), gradient boosting regression (GBR), linear regression (LR), random forest regression (RFR), and decision tree regression (DTR) were employed. Age estimation models were constructed based on total, female, and male samples respectively using these algorithms. The fitting performance of different machine learning algorithms in these three groups was evaluated. RESULTS: SVR demonstrated superior estimation efficiency among all machine learning models in both total and female samples, while GBR showed the best performance in male samples. The mean absolute error (MAE) of the optimal age estimation model was 1.246 3, 1.281 8 and 1.153 8 years in the total, female and male samples, respectively. The optimal age estimation model exhibited varying levels of accuracy across different age ranges, which provided relatively accurate age estimations in individuals under 18 years old. CONCLUSIONS: The machine learning model developed in this study exhibits good age estimation efficiency in northern Chinese Han children and adolescents. However, its performance is not ideal when applied to adult population. To improve the accuracy in age estimation, the other variables can be considered.

RÉSUMÉ

The potential for secondary stroke prevention, which can significantly reduce the risk of recurrent strokes by almost 90%, underscores its critical importance. N-butylphthalide (NBP) has emerged as a promising treatment for acute cerebral ischemia, yet its efficacy for secondary stroke prevention is hindered by inadequate pharmacokinetic properties. This study, driven by a comprehensive structural analysis, the iterative process of structure optimization culminated in the identification of compound B4, which demonstrated exceptional neuroprotective efficacy and remarkable oral exposure and oral bioavailability. Notably, in an in vivo transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) model, B4 substantially attenuated infarct volumes, surpassing the effectiveness of NBP. While oral treatment with B4 exhibited stronger prevention potency than NBP in photothrombotic (PT) model. In summary, compound B4, with its impressive oral bioavailability and potent neuroprotective effects, offers promise for both acute ischemic stroke treatment and secondary stroke prevention.

RÉSUMÉ

In this study, we explored the thickness influence of undecomposed litter layer and semi-decomposed litter layer on the natural regeneration in an artificial pure forest of Larix principis-rupprechtii in the forest area of Guandi Mountain. We divided the litter into an undecomposed layer and a semi-decomposed layer, which was further divided into eight groups based on the thickness. The results showed that when the thickness of undecomposed layer was 0.32-0.83 cm, and that of semi-decomposed layer was 0.18-0.89 cm, the regeneration index was larger (≥0.15), and the regeneration was better. When the thickness of undecomposed layer was more than 1.1 cm and that of semi-decomposed layer was more than 0.5 cm, the regeneration index was smaller (≤0.07), and the rege-neration of understory was worse. Results of redundancy analysis showed that the undecomposed layer thickness of litter had a high and stable explanatory ability for natural regeneration, with a contribution rate of 38.7%, while the semi-decomposed layer thickness had no significant effect on natural regeneration. Structural equation modeling revealed that the thickness of undecomposed layer of litter increased the mechanical resistance to seed germination which had a negative direct effect on natural regeneration (-0.617), and a positive indirect effect on natural rege-neration by influencing the content of alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen and available phosphorus (+0.178). The combined effects (-0.439) showed an inhibitory effect on the natural regeneration. In conclusion, the thickness of undecomposed layer of litter under L. principis-rupprechtii was most closely related to natural regeneration, and the thickness of semi-decomposed layer had a minimal effect on natural regeneration.

RÉSUMÉ

In the context of rapid urbanization, metropolitan areas are facing the risk of supply-demand mismatches among ecosystem services. Investigating the patterns, relationships, and driving factors of multiple supply-demand risks is of great significance to support the efficient management of regional ecological risks. We quantified the single/comprehensive supply-demand risk rates of six ecosystem services in Wuhan Metropolitan Area at the township scale in 2000, 2010, and 2020. By applying the self-organizing feature map network and optimal parameter geo-detector, we identified supply-demand risks bundles of ecosystem services and influencing factors of comprehensive risks. The results showed significant spatial variations in the supply-demand risks of typical ecosystem services from 2000 to 2020. The supply-demand risk associated with grain production, water yield, carbon sequestration, and green space recreation increased, while soil conservation and water purification risks decreased. The comprehensive ecosystem services supply-demand risk increased from 0.41 to 0.45, indicating a 'core area increase and periphery decrease' trend. Throughout the study period, the area exhibited bundles of comprehensive extremely high-risk bundles (B1), comprehensive high-risk bundles (B2), water purification high-risk bundles (B3), and grain production-soil conservation risk bundles (B4). The transition of risk types from B3 to B2 and from B2 to B1 suggested an increase in the combination and intensity of supply-demand risk. Vegetation cover, nighttime light index, and population density were the main driving factors for spatial variations in comprehensive supply-demand risk. Ecologi-cal risk assessment based on ecosystem services supply-demand bundles could provide an effective and reliable way to regulate multiple regional risk issues.
