RÉSUMÉ

Coating a polymeric membrane for gas separation is a feasible approach to fabricate gas sensors with selectivity. In this study, poly(methyl methacrylate)-(PMMA-)membrane-coated palladium (Pd) nanoparticle (NP) films were fabricated for high-performance hydrogen (H2) gas sensing by carrying out gas-phase cluster deposition and PMMA spin coating. No changes were induced by the PMMA spin coating in the electrical transport and H2-sensing mechanisms of the Pd NP films. Measurements of H2 sensing demonstrated that the devices were capable of detecting H2 gas within the concentration range 0-10% at room temperature and showed high selectivity to H2 due to the filtration effect of the PMMA membrane layer. Despite the presence of the PMMA matrix, the lower detection limit of the sensor is less than 50 ppm. A series of PMMA membrane layers with different thicknesses were spin coated onto the surface of Pd NP films for the selective filtration of H2. It was found that the device sensing kinetics were strongly affected by the thickness of the PMMA layer, with the devices with thicker PMMA membrane layers showing a slower response to H2 gas. Three mechanisms slowing down the sensing kinetics of the devices were demonstrated to be present: diffusion of H2 gas in the PMMA matrix, nucleation and growth of the ß phase in the α phase matrix of Pd hydride, and stress relaxation at the interface between Pd NPs and the PMMA matrix. The retardation effect caused by these three mechanisms on the sensing kinetics relied on the phase region of Pd hydride during the sensing reaction. Two simple strategies, minimizing the thickness of the PMMA membrane layer and reducing the size of the Pd NPs, were proposed to compensate for retardation of the sensing response.

RÉSUMÉ

An MEKC method combining field-amplified sample injection (FASI) has been developed for the analysis of albumin (Alb) and transferrin (TRF) in human urines. Various parameters affecting FASI preconcentration were optimized systematically. Under the optimum conditions, using electrokinetic sample injection for 90 s, the sensitivity was improved 77.6- and 45.3-fold for TRF and Alb, respectively, without loss of separation efficiency when compared with hydrodynamical sample injection for 5 s (0.5 psi). The detection limits of TRF and Alb were found to be 0.31 and 0.14 mg/L, respectively. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of TRF and Alb in desalted urines from patients with kidney diseases, and the recoveries of TRF and Alb were 91.1-101.7%.

RÉSUMÉ

A new kind of magnetic dextran microsphere (MDMS) with uniform shape and narrow diameter distribution has been prepared from magnetic iron nanoparticles and dextran. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was successfully immobilized on the surface of an MDMS-modified glassy-carbon electrode (GCE), and the immobilized HRP displayed excellent electrocatalytic activity in the reduction of H(2)O(2) in the presence of the mediator hydroquinone (HQ). The effects of experimental variables such as the concentration of HQ, solution pH, and the working potential were investigated for optimum analytical performance. This biosensor had a fast response to H(2)O(2) of less than 10 s and an excellent linear relationship was obtained in the concentration range 0.20 micromol L(-1)-0.68 mmol L(-1), with a detection limit of 0.078 micromol L(-1) (S/N = 3) under the optimum conditions. The response showed Michaelis-Menten behavior at larger H(2)O(2) concentrations, and the apparent Michaelis-Menten constant K(M)(app) was estimated to be 1.38 mmol L(-1). Moreover, the selectivity, stability, and reproducibility of the biosensor were evaluated, with satisfactory results.

RÉSUMÉ

To study the biodistribution of a new radioimmunoconjugate-131I-anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody (Sc-7269)-Dextran Magnetic Nanoparticles (DMN) in nude mice bearing human liver cancer where an external magnetic field was focused on, and to evaluate its therapeutic effects and safety. Tumor Growth Delay (TGD) and tumor inhibition rate were observed as antitumor effect. Peripheral white blood cells counts and the loss of body weight were tested as an indicator of systemic toxicity. The results suggests that the radioimmunotherapy of intratumoral injection of 131I-Sc-7269-DMN may be safe and efficient for the treatment of liver cancer. Furthermore, the radioimmunotherapy using DMN as a 'carrier system' may be a highly potential approach in the treatment of other kind of tumors.
