Background: Herbal medicine Ja-Geum-Jeong (JGJ) has been used for the treatment of detoxification in Eastern Asia. However, the mechanisms involved are not clearly defined. The purpose of the present study was to investigate if herb medication inhibits Methamphetamine (METH)'s reinforcing effect and also examined if a combination of herb medication and acupuncture produces a synergistic effect on METH. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were given acute METH intraperitoneally and the locomotor activity and ultrasonic vocalization (USV) calls were measured. Rats were administered JGJ orally and acupuncture was given at HT7 or SI5. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonists were injected into the Central amygdala (CeA) to investigate a possible neuroscientific mechanism. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and fast scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) were measured to immunohistochemically and electrically confirm the behavioral data. Results: Locomotor activity and USV calls were increased by METH (P < 0.05) and these increases were inhibited by JGJ (P < 0.05). Also, JGJ had no effect on the normal group given saline, and acupuncture at SI5 acupoint, but not at HT7 acupoint, produced a synergistic effect when combined with JGJ (P < 0.05). The JGJ's inhibition was blocked by the inactivation of CeA (P < 0.05), and MSG mimicked JGJ (P < 0.05). TH and FSCV measures showed the same pattern with the behavioral data (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Results of the present study suggest that JGJ had inhibitory effects on the METH which was mediated through the activation of CeA and that combination of acupuncture and herb produced synergistic effect.

Background: Although microbiota in prostatic tissues of patients with prostate cancer have been studied, results of different studies have been inconsistent. Different ethnicity of study subjects, different study designs, and potential contaminations during sample collection and experiments might have influenced microbiome results of prostatic tissues. In this study, we analyzed microbiota and their potential functions in benign and malignant tissues of prostate cancer considering possible contaminants and host variables. Materials and methods: A total of 118 tissue samples (59 benign tissues and 59 malignant tissues) obtained by robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy were analyzed and 64 negative controls (from sampling to sequencing processes) were included to reduce potential contaminants. Results: Alteration of the microbiome in prostate tissues was detected only in patients with diabetes. Furthermore, the influence of diabetes on microbiome was significant in malignant tissues. The microbiome in malignant tissues of patients with diabetes was influenced by pathologic stages. The relative abundance of Cutibacterium was reduced in the high pathologic group compared to that in the intermediate group. This reduction was related to microbial pathways increased in the high pathologic group. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that diabetes can influence the progression of prostate cancer with microbiome alteration in prostate tissues. Although further studies are necessary to confirm findings of this study, this study can help us understand tissue microbiome in prostate cancer and improve clinical therapy strategies.

Triclosan (TCS), a widely used antimicrobial agent, has been implicated in the oxidative stress induction and disruption of cellular processes in aquatic organisms. As TCS is ubiquitous in the aquatic environment, many previous studies have documented the effects of exposure to TCS on aquatic organisms. Nevertheless, most of the research has concentrated on the molecular and physiological responses of TCS, but there are still limited studies on the function of specific genes and the consequences of their absence. In this study, we focused on p53, a gene that is crucial for molecular responses such as autophagy and apoptosis as a result of TCS exposure. In order to ascertain the role and impact of the p53 gene in TCS-induced molecular responses, we examined the molecular responses to TCS-induced oxidative stress in wild-type (WT) and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated p53 mutant (MT) water fleas. The result has been accomplished by examining changes in molecular mechanisms, including in vivo end points, enzyme activities, adenosine triphosphate release rate, and apoptosis, to determine the role and impact of the p53 gene on TCS-induced molecular responses. The results indicated that the sensitivity of MT water fleas to TCS was greater than that of WT water fleas; however, the difference in sensitivity was significant at short exposures within 48 h and decreased toward 48 h. Accordingly, when we confirmed the oxidative stress after 24 h of exposure, the oxidative stress to TCS exposure was stronger in the MT group, with an imbalance of redox. To identify the mechanisms of tolerance to TCS in WT and MT Daphnia magna, we checked mitochondrial and ER-stress-related biomarkers and found an increase in apoptosis and greater sensitivity to TCS exposure in the MT group than in the WT. Our results suggest that the absence of p53 caused alterations in molecular processes in response to TCS exposure, resulting in increased sensitivity to TCS, and that p53 plays a critical role in response to TCS exposure.

BACKGROUND: Despite the detailed imaging information provided by optical coherence tomography (OCT) during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), clinical benefits of this imaging technique in this setting remain uncertain. The aim of the OCCUPI trial was to compare the clinical benefits of OCT-guided versus angiography-guided PCI for complex lesions, assessed as the rate of major adverse cardiac events at 1 year. METHODS: This investigator-initiated, multicentre, randomised, open-label, superiority trial conducted at 20 hospitals in South Korea enrolled patients aged 19-85 years for whom PCI with drug-eluting stents was clinically indicated. After diagnostic angiography, clinical and angiographic findings were assessed to identify patients who met the criterion of having one or more complex lesions. Patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive PCI with OCT guidance (OCT-guidance group) or angiography guidance without OCT (angiography-guidance group). Web-response permuted-block randomisation (mixed blocks of four or six) was used at each participating site to allocate patients. The allocation sequence was computer-generated by an external programmer who was not involved in the rest of the trial. Outcome assessors were masked to group assignment. Patients, follow-up health-care providers, and data analysers were not masked. PCI was done according to conventional standard methods with everolimus-eluting stents. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (a composite of cardiac death, myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis, or ischaemia-driven target-vessel revascularisation), 1 year after PCI. The primary analysis was done in the intention-to-treat population. The margin used to establish superiority was 1·0 as a hazard ratio. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03625908) and is completed. FINDINGS: Between Jan 9, 2019, and Sept 22, 2022, 1604 patients requiring PCI with drug-eluting stents for complex lesions were randomly assigned to receive either OCT-guided PCI (n=803) or angiography-guided PCI (n=801). 1290 (80%) of 1604 patients were male and 314 (20%) were female. The median age of patients at randomisation was 64 years (IQR 57-70). 1588 (99%) patients completed 1-year follow-up. The primary endpoint occurred in 37 (5%) of 803 patients in the OCT-guided PCI group and 59 (7%) of 801 patients in the angiography-guided PCI group (absolute difference -2·8% [95% CI -5·1 to -0·4]; hazard ratio 0·62 [95% CI 0·41 to 0·93]; p=0·023). Rates of stroke, bleeding events, and contrast-induced nephropathy were not significantly different across the two groups. INTERPRETATION: Among patients who required drug-eluting stent implantation for complex lesions, OCT guidance resulted in a lower incidence of major adverse cardiac events at 1 year compared with angiography guidance. These findings indicate the existence of a therapeutic benefit of OCT as an intravascular imaging technique for PCI guidance in patients with complex coronary lesions. Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a tick-borne illness with a notable morality risk that is becoming increasingly prevalent in East Asia (14-36%). Increasing evidence indicates a more direct role of the SFTS virus in renal impairment. However, few studies have explored the risk factors for and clinical outcomes of AKI in patients with SFTS. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate risk factors and outcomes associated with AKI in patients with SFTS. In this retrospective cohort study, we included the data of 53 patients who were diagnosed with SFTS virus infection at Kangwon National University Hospital between 2016 and 2020. We incorporated laboratory data and medical information including comorbidities, complications, and mortality. Baseline characteristics, clinical features, laboratory parameters, and mortality rates of the non-AKI and AKI groups were compared. Patient survival of non-AKI and AKI groups were compared using the Kaplan-Meier method. To identify the population with poor prognosis, Cox regression analysis was used to identify the independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality in patients with SFTS. Of the 53 individuals, 29 (54.7%) were male, with an average age of 66.5 years. Nine patients (15.1%) died of SFTS. Twenty-seven (50.9%) patients exhibited AKI; the average time interval from fever onset to AKI occurrence was 3.6 days. Notably, 24 (88.9%) patients developed AKI within the first week of fever onset. Patients in the AKI group exhibited a significantly higher prevalence of diabetes and were older than those in the non-AKI group. The mortality rate was notably higher (29.6%) in the AKI group than in the non-AKI group (3.8%). Within the AKI cohort, advanced stages (stages 2 and 3) showed a 50% mortality rate, which was significantly higher than the 17.6% mortality rate in patients with stage 1 AKI. Additionally, Kaplan-Meier curves revealed lower survival rates among patients with AKI than among those without AKI (P = 0.017). Cox regression analysis identified leukopenia and elevated serum creatinine levels as significant risk factors for mortality. AKI is a common complication associated with SFTS. Moreover, the mortality rate was significantly higher in the patients who developed AKI than in those who did not. Our findings underscore the pivotal role of AKI as a prognostic marker of disease severity in patients with SFTS.

This study focuses on the discovery of a single-component molecular resist for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography by employing the ionizing radiation-induced decomposition of carbon-fluorine chemical bonds. The target material, DHP-L6, was synthesized by bonding perfluoroalkyl ether moieties to amorphous dendritic hexaphenol (DHP) with a high glass transition temperature. Upon exposure to EUV and electron beam irradiation, DHP-L6 films exhibited a decreasing solubility in fluorous developer media, resulting in negative-tone images. The underlying chemical mechanisms were elucidated by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and nanoindentation experiments. These analyses highlighted the possible electron-induced decomposition of C-F bonds in DHP-L6, leading to molecular network formation via recombination of the resulting C-centered radicals. Subsequent high-resolution lithographic patterning under EUV irradiation showed that DHP-L6 could create stencil patterns with a line width of 26 nm at an exposure dose of 110 mJ cm-2. These results confirm that single-component small molecular compounds with fluoroalkyl moieties can be employed as patterning materials under ionizing radiation. Nonetheless, additional research is required to reduce the relatively high exposure energy for high-resolution patterning and to enhance the line-edge roughness of the produced stencil.

INTRODUCTION: Despite growing concerns over safety risks associated with on-site contractors in high-risk industries, little research has examined how host organizations affect their safety. Drawing from the open systems perspective, this study investigated the influence of host organizations' safety climates on on-site contractor employees' safety and job attitudes. METHOD: The study used multi-level structural equation modeling (MSEM) to test hypothesized relationships among variables with survey data collected from 1,720 employees of 68 on-site contractor organizations and 3,205 employees of six host organizations. RESULTS: At the organization-level, host organizations' safety climates were associated with their on-site contractor employees' safety behaviors, job attitudes, and injuries, and these effects were mediated by the safety climate of the on-site contractor organizations. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that the safety climates of host organizations can extend to their on-site contractor organizations. Therefore, fostering a positive safety climate not only benefits the host organizations themselves but also creates a crucial environmental cue that shapes the safety climate and outcomes of on-site contractors. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Leading by example and fostering a positive safety climate within the organization are effective ways for a host organization to ensure the safety of its on-site contractors.

OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and meta-analysis revealed the effectiveness of meditation in addressing fatigue, given its widespread use as a remedy for sleep disturbances and fatigue. METHOD: We analyzed 29 randomized controlled trials from MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library, spanning from December 31, 2022. We conducted two metaanalyses using mean difference (MD) with normalized data and standardized mean difference (SMD) with original data. RESULTS: These trials included various populations, with baseline fatigue severity observed at 52.2 ± 16.0 points among 4104 participants. After an average meditation duration of 9.6 ± 4.7 weeks, fatigue scores decreased significantly by 6.4 points of MD [95% CI, 4.3-8.5] compared to controls. The most significant reduction occurred in the sub-healthy group (MD 8.2 [95% CI, 2.7 to 13.8]), followed by the general group (MD 6.9 [95% CI, 0.4 to 13.4]), and the disease group (MD 5.7 [95% CI, 3.4 to 8.0]). Notably, meditation-based anti-fatigue effects were particularly pronounced for mental fatigue (MD 10.0 [95% CI, 4.3 to 15.6]), especially with expert guidance and supplementary homework. CONCLUSION: These findings align with meta-analysis results using standardized mean difference (SMD), providing evidence for meditation as an effective nonpharmacological intervention for fatigue management, while also informing effective meditation approaches. Singlet fission (SF) is a process in which the energy of a singlet-excited molecule is divided into two triplet excitations. This is a special case of an internal conversion that is spin-allowed and extremely fast. Ideally, this process utilizes one photon to produce two electron-hole pairs. In tandem with a layer of singlet fission material, conventional solar cells can achieve improved efficiency by utilizing higher-energy photons. This density functional theory study provides information about additional efficient SF chromophores that were theoretically modeled by functionalizing phenanthrene and pyrene via site-specific monosilicon substitutions. The SF capabilities of the derivatives were evaluated by calculating the SF thermodynamic driving force (ΔESF) and the excited state's molecular planarity. The most promising monosilicon derivatives with SF capabilities are 3-silaphenanthrene and 1-silapyrene for each family, respectively. All phenanthrene and pyrene monosilicon derivatives are strong closed-shell species, because their multiple diradical characteristics are close to zero. Based on these results, 3-silaphenanthrene and 1-silapyrene were selected for electron excitation analysis, which further demonstrated that the monosilicon functionalization of phenanthrene and pyrene led to a transfer from local excitation characters to hybridized local and charge-transfer characters of the excited states, resulting in a significant change from endoergic to exoergic in the SF chromophores.

BACKGROUND: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), a myeloproliferative neoplasm defined by the BCR::ABL1 fusion gene arising from the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph) translocation t(9:22)(q34;q11), exhibits diverse clinical courses often influenced by additional chromosomal aberrations (ACAs). This report presents a case of CML har-boring a novel four-way Ph translocation involving the X chromosome, offering insights into the interplay between complex karyotypes and treatment response and emphasizing the need for further research into the role of ACAs in CML management. METHODS: A 42-year-old man diagnosed with CML in the accelerated phase presented a novel four-way Ph translocation involving chromosomes X, 5, 9, and 22: 46,Y,t(X;5;9;22)(q26;q15;q34;q11.2). Despite achieving a major molecular response initially with imatinib and nilotinib, BCR::ABL1 levels (international scale) increased up to 24.0%, which prompted the use of second-line nilotinib. RESULTS: Follow-up bone marrow (BM) studies revealed clonal evolution with trisomy 8 and an unclassified ABL1 mutation (E292V), potentially contributing to resistance. Though a transient major molecular response (MMR) occurred after a switch to third-line dasatinib, this change failed to achieve a deep molecular response, and BCR-ABL1 levels were elevated above the MMR. CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the challenge of ACAs impacting CML treatment response and prognosis. Limited knowledge exists on complex Ph translocations involving the X chromosome, but this report contributes data for further research. Understanding ACA effects on therapeutic response and prognosis requires a detailed study of such complex chromosomal aberrations.

Although metal-organic thin films are required for many biorelated applications, traditional deposition methods have proven challenging in preparing these composite materials. Here, a Co-organic composite thin film was prepared by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) with cobaltocene (Co(Cp)2) on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), using two very high frequency (VHF) NH3 plasmas (60 and 100 MHz), for use as a tissue culture scaffold. VHF PEALD was employed to reduce the temperature and control the thickness and composition. In the result of the VHF PEALD process, the Young's modulus of the Co-organic composite thin film ranged from 82.0 ± 28.6 to 166.0 ± 15.2 MPa, which is similar to the Young's modulus of soft tissues. In addition, the deposited Co ion on the Co-organic composite thin film was released into the cell culture media under a nontoxic level for the biological environment. The proliferation of both L929, the mouse fibroblast cell line, and C2C12, the mouse myoblast cell line, increased to 164.9 ± 23.4% during 7 days of incubation. Here, this novel bioactive Co-organic composite thin film on an elastic PDMS substrate enhanced the proliferation of L929 and C2C12 cell lines, thereby expanding the application range of VHF PEALD in biological fields.

The main objective of this research was to evaluate the impacts of FeCl3-activated biochar (FA-BC) on anaerobic digestion (AD) treating cow manure. The study focused on improving AD performance and understanding microbial community structure with the addition of FA-BC, while comparing FA-BC with other conductive additives, such as pristine biochar (P-BC), NaOH-activated biochar (NA-BC), and magnetite. Key findings indicated that FA- BC significantly enhanced the AD performance, supported by an increase in CH4 yield of 11-16% and a reduction in the lag phase by 51%. The high surface area and electrical conductivity of FA-BC synergistically facilitated direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET), leading to these improvements. On contrast, P-BC and NA-BC were not efficient in enhancing the AD performance due to relatively low electrical conductivity. P-BC also improved the CH4 yield, but less effectively than FA-BC. The effects of NA-BC varied with its dosage, showing inhibition at higher dosages due to excessive surface area. Magnetite, despite its high conductivity, made the limited enhancement in CH4 yield owing to its low surface area. Additionally, the statistical analyses revealed that each additive differently affected specific bacterial and archaeal groups depending on their physical and chemical properties. Thus, these findings suggest that FA-BC would be a highly promising additive for enhan cing AD systems, with potential applications in waste management and renewable energy production.

This study investigated levels of eight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH8) compounds in both raw and processed marine products in South Korea. Katsuobushi exhibited the highest concentration of benzo[a]pyrene, at 14.22 µg/kg, exceeding the European Commission's regulation level of 5.0 µg/kg. The total PAH8 concentration in katsuobushi was 220.5 µg/kg. Among the product categories, shellfish had the highest detection rate (70%), followed by fish (19%) and crustacea (8%), with chrysene being the most prominent PAH8 congener in all marine products. Grilled fish predominantly contained pyrogenic PAHs from combustion byproducts, while shellfish primarily contained petrogenic ones from the aquatic environment. Grilling, smoking, and drying processes significantly contributed to the formation of PAH8 in these food products. Based on the results of a risk assessment using a margin of exposure approach through a total diet study, exposure to PAH8 from marine products is considered to pose low concern to the South Korean population. Background/Aims: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) play a crucial role in managing laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), but the optimal dosing regimen remains unclear. We aim to compare the effectiveness of the same total PPI dose administered twice daily versus once daily in LPR patients. Methods: We conducted a prospective randomized controlled trial at a tertiary referral hospital, enrolling a total of 132 patients aged 19-79 with LPR. These patients were randomly assigned to receive either a 10 mg twice daily (BID) or a 20 mg once daily (QD) dose of ilaprazole for 12 weeks. The Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Score (RFS) were assessed at 8 weeks and 16 weeks. The primary endpoint was the RSI response, defined as a reduction of 50% or more in the total RSI score from the baseline. We also analyzed the efficacy of the dosing regimens and the impact of dosing and duration on treatment outcomes. Results: The BID group did not display a higher response rate for RSI than the QD group. The changes in total RSI scores at the 8-week and 16-week visits showed no significant differences between the 2 groups. Total RFS alterations were also comparable between both groups. Each dosing regimen demonstrated significant decreases in RSI and RFS. Conclusions: Both BID and QD PPI dosing regimens improved subjective symptom scores and objective laryngoscopic findings. There was no significant difference in RSI improvement between the 2 dosing regimens, indicating that either dosing regimen could be considered a viable treatment option.

Pseudoaneurysm of the lateral perforating branch of the peroneal artery is exceedingly rare. To our knowledge, eight cases are described in the current literature, with five occurring as a result of trauma and the remainder being iatrogenic. We present a pseudoaneurysm of the lateral perforating peroneal artery in a professional athlete following an inversion-plantarflexion injury of the ankle. He described persistent pain and fluctuant swelling to the lateral aspect of the right ankle with sudden onset of increased pain and swelling 10 days after the initial injury. Arterial duplex identified a pseudoaneurysm of the right lateral perforating peroneal artery. Endovascular coil embolisation of the aneurysm resulted in almost immediate improvement in symptoms. The patient has since regained full function of the affected ankle. This case report highlights the necessity for clinicians to maintain a high index of suspicion in order to promptly investigate and appropriately manage this pathology.

Preventing ion migration in perovskite photovoltaics is key to achieving stable and efficient devices. The activation energy for ion migration is affected by the chemical environment surrounding the ions. Thus, the migration of organic cations in lead halide perovskites can be mitigated by engineering their local interactions, for example through hydrogen bonding. Ion migration also leads to ionic losses via interfacial reactions. Undesirable reactivities of the organic cations can be eliminated by introducing protecting groups. In this work, we report bis(2-oxo-3-oxazolidinyl) phosphinic chloride (BOP-Cl) as a perovskite ink additive with the following benefits: (1) The phosphoryl and two oxo groups form six-membered intermolecular hydrogen-bonded rings with the formamidinium cation (FA), mitigating ion migrations. (2) The hydrogen bonding reduces the electrophilicity of the ammonium protons by donating electron density, therefore reducing its reactivity with the surface oxygen on the metal oxide. Furthermore, the molecule can react to form a protecting group on the nucleophilic oxygen at the tin oxide transport layer surface through the elimination of chlorine. As a result, we achieve perovskite solar cells with an efficiency of 25.0% and improved MPP stability T93 = 1200 h at 40-45 °C compared to a control device (T86 = 550 h). In addition, we show a negative correlation between the strength of hydrogen bonding of different phosphine oxide derivatives to the organic cations and the degree of metastable behavior (e.g., initial burn-in) of the device.

Senescence has been demonstrated to either inhibit or promote tumorigenesis. Resolving this paradox requires spatial mapping and functional characterization of senescent cells in the native tumor niche. Here, we identified senescent p16 Ink4a + cancer-associated fibroblasts with a secretory phenotype that promotes fatty acid uptake and utilization by aggressive lung adenocarcinoma driven by Kras and p53 mutations. Furthermore, rewiring of lung cancer metabolism by p16 Ink4a + cancer-associated fibroblasts also altered tumor cell identity to a highly plastic/dedifferentiated state associated with progression in murine and human LUAD. Our ex vivo senolytic screening platform identified XL888, a HSP90 inhibitor, that cleared p16 Ink4a + cancer-associated fibroblasts in vivo. XL888 administration after establishment of advanced lung adenocarcinoma significantly reduced tumor burden concurrent with the loss of plastic tumor cells. Our study identified a druggable component of the tumor stroma that fulfills the metabolic requirement of tumor cells to acquire a more aggressive phenotype.

Introduction: Japanese quail are of significant economic value, providing protein nutrition to humans through their reproductive activity; however, sexual dimorphism in this species remains relatively unexplored compared with other model species. Method: A total of 114 RNA sequencing datasets (18 and 96 samples for quail and chicken, respectively) were collected from existing studies to gain a comprehensive understanding of sexual dimorphism in quail. Cross-species integrated analyses were performed with transcriptome data from evolutionarily close chickens to identify sex-biased genes in the embryonic, adult brain, and gonadal tissues. Results: Our findings indicate that the expression patterns of genes involved in sex-determination mechanisms during embryonic development, as well as those of most sex-biased genes in the adult brain and gonads, are identical between quails and chickens. Similar to most birds with a ZW sex determination system, quails lacked global dosage compensation for the Z chromosome, resulting in directional outcomes that supported the hypothesis that sex is determined by the individual dosage of Z-chromosomal genes, including long non-coding RNAs located in the male hypermethylated region. Furthermore, genes, such as WNT4 and VIP, reversed their sex-biased patterns at different points in embryonic development and/or in different adult tissues, suggesting a potential hurdle in breeding and transgenic experiments involving avian sex-related traits. Discussion: The findings of this study are expected to enhance our understanding of sexual dimorphism in birds and subsequently facilitate insights into the field of breeding and transgenesis of sex-related traits that economically benefit humans.

This study was the first to document the fluctuations of nutritional constituents, antioxidant capacities, and physicochemical characteristics during the aging processes of red ginseng sprouts (RGS) and black ginseng sprouts (BGS) from dried ginseng sprouts (DGS). Total ginsenoside levels differed with 54.72 (DGS) → 57.15 (RGS) and 6.98 (BGS) mg/g, specifically, ginsenoside F2 and Rd2 in RGS remarkably increased with 1.97 â†’ 5.88 and 2.41 â†’ 5.49 mg/g, respectively. Phenolics increased dramatically as 297.02 â†’ 1770.01 (6.0-fold); 1834.94 (6.2-fold) µg/g in DGS → RGS; BGS with abundance contents of benzoic acid (>15.3-fold), chlorogenic acid (>9.5-fold), and catechin (>4.2-fold), whereas amino acids markedly decreased (3686.81 â†’ 1505.00; 364.64 mg/100 g), with arginine showing a significant decrease. Moreover, beneficial factors (total phenolic content: TPC; total flavonoid content: TFC; maillard reaction products: MRP) displayed increase tendencies (approximately 2.0-fold) with BGS > RGS > DGS, and antioxidant patterns significantly increased with potential capacities as follows: ABTS (48.3: DGS → 65.8: RGS; 70.2 %: BGS) > DPPH (18.5 â†’ 44.6; 59.2 %) > hydroxyl (23.2 â†’ 35.4; 39.9 %) > FRAP (0.6 â†’ 1.8; 1.8 %) at 500 µg/mL. In particular, DNA protection exhibited excellent rates of 100 %, in the order of BGS (25 µg/mL) > RGS (50 µg/mL) > DGS (500 µg/mL). These findings suggest that processed ginseng sprouts can be excellent agents for natural antioxidants.

In alignment with the ICH guideline for Good Clinical Practice [ICH E6(R2)], quality tolerance limit (QTL) monitoring has become a standard component of risk-based monitoring of clinical trials by sponsor companies. Parameters that are candidates for QTL monitoring are critical to participant safety and quality of trial results. Breaching the QTL of a given parameter could indicate systematic issues with the trial that could impact participant safety or compromise the reliability of trial results. Methods for QTL monitoring should detect potential QTL breaches as early as possible while limiting the rate of false alarms. Early detection allows for the implementation of remedial actions that can prevent a QTL breach at the end of the trial. We demonstrate that statistically based methods that account for the expected value and variability of the data generating process outperform simple methods based on fixed thresholds with respect to important operating characteristics. We also propose a Bayesian method for QTL monitoring and an extension that allows for the incorporation of partial information, demonstrating its potential to outperform frequentist methods originating from the statistical process control literature.
