RÉSUMÉ

This experiment aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementing tributyrin (TB) on the meat quality characteristics of foreshank muscle of weaned lambs. A total of 30 healthy weaned Small-Tailed Han female lambs with body weights ranging from 23.4 to 31.6 kg were selected and randomly divided into five groups, and each group consisted of 6 lambs. The control group was fed a basic total mixed ration, while other groups were fed the same ration supplemented with 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 g/kg TB, respectively. The experiment lasted 75 d, including 15 d of adaptation. Foreshank muscle obtained at the same position from each lamb was used for chemical analysis and sensory evaluation. The results showed that supplementing TB increased the muscle contents of ether extract (p = 0.029), calcium (p = 0.030), phosphorus (p = 0.007), and intermuscular fat length (p = 0.022). Besides, TB increased the muscle pH (p = 0.001) and redness (p < 0.001) but reduced the lightness (p < 0.001), drip loss (p = 0.029), cooking loss (p < 0.001), shear force (p = 0.001), hardness (p < 0.001), cohesiveness (p < 0.001), springiness (p < 0.001), gumminess (p < 0.001), and chewiness (p < 0.001). In addition, TB increased the muscle content of inosine-5'-phosphate (p = 0.004). Most importantly, TB increased the muscle contents of essential amino acids (p < 0.001). Furthermore, TB increased the saturated fatty acids level in the muscle (p < 0.001) while decreasing the unsaturated fatty acids content (p < 0.001). In conclusion, supplementing TB could influence the meat quality of foreshank muscle of weaned lambs by modifying the amino acid and fatty acid levels.

RÉSUMÉ

Computed tomography (CT) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) registration plays an important role in radiotherapy. However, the poor quality of CBCT makes CBCT-CT multimodal registration challenging. Effective feature fusion and mapping often lead to better registration results for multimodal registration. Therefore, we proposed a new backbone network BCSwinReg and a cross-modal attention module CrossSwin. Specifically, a cross-modal attention CrossSwin is designed to promote multi-modal feature fusion, map the multi-modal domain to the common domain, and thus helping the network learn the correspondence between images better. Furthermore, a new network, BCSwinReg, is proposed to discover correspondence through cross-attention exchange information, obtain multi-level semantic information through a multi-resolution strategy, and finally integrate the deformation of multi-resolutions by the divide-conquer cascade method. We performed experiments on the publicly available 4D-Lung dataset to demonstrate the effectiveness of CrossSwin and BCSwinReg. Compared with VoxelMorph, the BCSwinReg has obtained performance improvements of 3.3% in Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) and 0.19 in the average 95% Hausdorff distance (HD95).

RÉSUMÉ

Root development influences plant responses to environmental conditions, and well-developed rooting enhances plant survival under abiotic stress. However, the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying root development and abiotic stress tolerance in plants remain unclear. In this study, we identified the MYB transcription factor-encoding gene IbMYB73 by cDNA-amplified fragment length polymorphism and RNA-seq analyses. IbMYB73 expression was greatly suppressed under abiotic stress in the roots of the salt-tolerant sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) line ND98, and its promoter activity in roots was significantly reduced by abscisic acid (ABA), NaCl, and mannitol treatments. Overexpression of IbMYB73 significantly inhibited adventitious root growth and abiotic stress tolerance, whereas IbMYB73-RNAi plants displayed the opposite pattern. IbMYB73 influenced the transcription of genes involved in the ABA pathway. Furthermore, IbMYB73 formed homodimers and activated the transcription of ABA-responsive protein IbGER5 by binding to an MYB binding sites I motif in its promoter. IbGER5 overexpression significantly inhibited adventitious root growth and abiotic stress tolerance concomitantly with a reduction in ABA content, while IbGER5-RNAi plants showed the opposite effect. Collectively, our results demonstrated that the IbMYB73-IbGER5 module regulates ABA-dependent adventitious root growth and abiotic stress tolerance in sweet potato, which provides candidate genes for the development of elite crop varieties with well-developed root-mediated abiotic stress tolerance.

RÉSUMÉ

A polymethionine(p-Met)-modified laser-induced graphene(LIG)electrode was constructed and integrated with portable electrochemical workstations and handheld computer to achieve on-site,simultaneous detection of azo dyes sunset yellow(SY)and tartrazine(Tz)in environmental water.Firstly, the sensor interface with the best electrical conductivity was obtained by optimizing the laser processing parameters, and then the electrochemical responses of SY and Tz were improved by electropolymerization of methionine on the surface of LIG.Finally,a portable electrochemical sensor platform was built by connecting p-Met/LIG,a small electrochemical workstation and a handheld computer application program.Differential pulse voltammetry(DPV)was used to determine these two dyes.SY showed a good linear relationship in the concentration range of 0.2-20 μmol/L and 20-100 μmol/L,the detection limit was as low as 0.001 μmol/L.Tz showed a good linear relationship in concentration range of 0.3-40 μmol/L and 40-100 μmol/L,and the detection limits was as low as 0.005 μmol/L.p-Met/LIG also had excellent anti-interference performance and reproducibility. The portable electrochemical platform was applied to real-time detection of real water samples, and the results showed that the platform was expected to be applied in field detection of SY and Tz in real environmental water bodies.

RÉSUMÉ

BACKGROUND:The combination of machine learning and medical metal materials can make up for the inefficiency and high cost of traditional experiments and computational simulations, and quickly and accurately predict the characteristics of metal materials by analyzing large amounts of data, optimize material design and performance, and improve the safety and efficiency of medical applications. OBJECTIVE:To summarize the research progress and shortcomings of machine learning in the characteristics of medical materials. METHODS:The first author searched CNKI,PubMed,X-MOL,and Web of Science databases by computer to search all relevant articles from January 2013 to April 2023.The Chinese search terms were"machine learning of medical metal materials, medical titanium alloy, medical magnesium alloy, medical metal material properties".The English search terms were"machine learning medical metal materials, medical stainless steel alloy, medical cobalt-chromium alloy, medical titanium alloy, medical magnesium alloy".Finally,70 relevant articles were included for a summary. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The introduction of machine learning as a material design methodology has opened up new paradigms for material science research as the accessibility of large amounts of data generated by traditional experimental and computational simulation methods increases.(2)The machine learning workflow is divided into four main parts:data collection and preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection and training, and model evaluation, each of which is indispensable.(3)Medical metal materials are categorized into:stainless steel co-base alloys,cobalt-chromium alloys, titanium alloys, and magnesium alloys. For stainless steel co-base alloy, machine learning predicts its mechanical properties,to improve the generalization ability of machine learning. For cobalt-chromium alloy, machine learning predicts its mechanical properties, and it can conclude that cobalt-chromium alloy is the optimal material for hip implants. For titanium alloy, machine learning predicts its mechanical properties, and it can select the implant with the best mechanical properties. For magnesium alloy, machine learning predicts its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties;the ensemble model can accurately predict the mechanical properties of magnesium alloys, and the random forest model can predict the optimal elemental contents of magnesium alloys as vascular stents.(4)Machine learning has deficiencies in the field of medical materials. For example, the model is relatively lagging;the data failed to be standardized, and the generalization is low.To solve such problems,we should make full use of deep learning and segmentation algorithm technology, use unified standard data, and improve the model to increase the generalization ability.

RÉSUMÉ

The roundabout is one type of at-grade intersection commonly seen in many countries. The evaluation of roundabout safety is usually counted on conflict analysis of the roundabout traffic due to random and limited records of real accidents. This paper surveyed published papers and reports that investigate the role of traffic conflicts in roundabout safety evaluation. It summarized the definitions and observation methods of roundabout conflicts and classified the attributing factors of roundabout conflicts and the countermeasures to control the conflicts. This study found that although unique traffic flow movements at roundabouts create special patterns of roundabout conflicts, the methods of roundabout conflict analysis used in most existing studies were inherited from the studies of highway or cross-intersection conflicts, including conflict definitions, conflict measurements, and thresholds of conflict severity. Special or improper designs of roundabout configurations or basic geometry elements could arouse roundabout conflicts. The most common vehicle-to-vehicle conflicts were entering-circulating conflicts, sideswipe conflicts, and exiting-circulating conflicts. The conflicts among vehicles and vulnerable road users (VRUs) easily evolved into serious collisions, but these conflicts did not get deserved attention in previous studies. Drivers' familiarity with roundabouts also affected road users' safety. Traffic signs and pavement markings were commonly used to control roundabout conflicts, while traffic signals were more effective methods for the roundabouts with uneven distribution of approaching traffic or high traffic volume. Based on the analysis of existing studies, this paper pointed out seven future directions of further research in term of conflict measurement, data collection, infrastructure and access management, geometry, drivers and VRUs, signal control, and vehicle control.

RÉSUMÉ

BACKGROUND: Age-related diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) is not absolute. Some advanced maternal age (AMA) still have normal ovarian reserve (NOR) and often show better pregnancy outcomes. Exploring the transcriptomic profile of granulosa cells (GCs) in AMA could lead to new ideas for mitigating age-related diminished ovarian reserve. AIM: This study aimed to analyze the transcriptomic profile of GCs in AMA with different ovarian reserve. RESULTS: In total, 6273 statistically significant differential expression genes (DEGs) (|log2fc|> 1, q < 0.05) were screened from the two groups, among which 3436 genes were upregulated, and 2837 genes were downregulated in the DOR group. Through Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis, the potential functions of dysregulated genes in AMA with DOR or NOR were predicted. The GO enrichment analysis revealed that the DEGs were mainly enriched in obsolete oxidation-reduction process, mitochondrion, metal ion binding, ATP binding, etc. The KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the above-mentioned DEGs were mainly enriched in ferroptosis, regulation of actin cytoskeleton, oxidative phosphorylation, etc. Meanwhile, verification of the mRNA expression levels of DEGs revealed the possible involvement of "ferroptosis" in age-related diminished ovarian reserve. CONCLUSIONS: From a new clinical perspective, we presented the first data showing the transcriptomic profile in GCs between AMA with different ovarian reserve. At the same time, we identified the role of ferroptosis in the GCs of AMA, providing a new biological basis for studying ovarian aging and improving pregnancy outcomes of AMA.

RÉSUMÉ

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the thyroid gland; fine needle aspiration cytology is the most basic and reliable diagnostic method before PTC operation. However, it is not clear which cell morphological changes can be used as a reliable standard for the diagnosis of PTC. A retrospective analysis was performed on 337 patients with PTC confirmed by postoperative histology. An additional 197 randomly selected patients with benign thyroid lesions were included in the study and used as a control group. True papillary arrangements, swirl arrangements, and escape arrangements had high specificity, all of which were 100%, but only swirl arrangements had ideal sensitivity (77.61%). The nuclear volume characteristics had a high sensitivity of more than 90%, but the specificities of both nuclear crowding and nuclear overlap were too low, only 16.34% and 23.35%. The sensitivities of five nuclear structural characteristics were more than 90%, but only the specificity of intranuclear cytoplasmic pseudoinclusions (INCIs) reached 100%, nuclear contour irregularity and pale nuclei with powdery chromatin also had ideal interpretation value except for grooves and marginally placed micronucleoli. Although the sensitivity of psammoma bodies (PBs) was low, the specificity was 100%. In terms of preparation methods, the method of liquid-based preparation (LBP) is obviously better than that of conventional smears. The diagnostic efficiency by the combined detection method of parallel tests showed that without reducing the specificity, the sensitivity increased with the increase of the number of morphological characteristics and finally reached 98.81%. The INCIs and swirl arrangements are the most common and important indicators for the diagnosis of PTC, whereas papillary-like arrangements, the crowding and overlap of nuclear, grooves, marginally placed micronucleoli, and multinucleated giant cells are of little significance for the diagnosis of PTC.

RÉSUMÉ

Background: The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI), a composite score of multiple dietary antioxidants (including vitamin A, C, and E, selenium, zinc, and carotenoids), represents an individual's comprehensive dietary antioxidant intake profile. CDAI was developed based on its combined effect on pro-inflammatory markers Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory effects of Interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), which are associated with many health outcomes, including depression, all-cause mortality, colorectal cancer, etc. Handgrip strength is used as a simple measure of muscle strength, not only is it highly correlated with overall muscle strength, but also serves as a diagnostic tool for many adverse health outcomes, including sarcopenia and frailty syndromes. Purpose: The association between CDAI and Handgrip strength (HGS) is currently unclear. This study investigated the association between CDAI (including its components) and HGS in 6,019 American adults. Method: The research data were selected from the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES), and a total of 6,019 American adults were screened and included. A weighted generalized linear regression model was used to evaluate CDAI (including its components) and HGS. Results: (1) CDAI was significantly positively correlated with HGS (ß = 0.009, 0.005∼0.013, P < 0.001), and the trend test showed that compared with the lowest quartile of CDAI, the highest quartile of CDAI was positively correlated with HGS (ß = 0.084, 0.042∼0.126, P = 0.002) and significant in trend test (P for trend < 0.0100). Gender subgroup analysis showed that male CDAI was significantly positively correlated with HGS (ß = 0.015, 0.007∼0.023, P = 0.002), and the trend test showed that compared with the lowest quartile of CDAI, the highest quartile of CDAI was positively correlated with HGS (ß = 0.131, 0.049∼0.213, P = 0.006) and the trend test was significant (P for trend < 0.0100). There was no correlation between female CDAI and HGS, and the trend test was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). (2) The intake of dietary vitamin E, Zinc and Selenium showed a significant positive correlation with HGS (ß = 0.004, 0.002∼0.007, P = 0.006; ß = 0.007, 0.004∼0.009, P < 0.001; ß = 0.001, 0.001∼0.001, P < 0.001), vitamin A, vitamin C and carotenoid were significantly associated with HGS in the Crude Model, but this significant association disappeared in the complete model with the increase of control variables. Gender subgroup analysis showed that in model 3, male dietary intake levels of vitamin E, Zinc, and Selenium were significantly positively correlated with HGS (ß = 0.005, 0.002∼0.009, P = 0.011; ß = 0.007, 0.004∼0.011, P = 0.001; ß = 0.001, 0.001∼0.001, P = 0.004), the rest of the indicators had no significant correlation with HGS. Among the female subjects, dietary zinc intake was significantly positively correlated with HGS (ß = 0.005, 0.001∼0.008, P = 0.008), and there was no significant correlation between other indicators and HGS (P > 0.05). Conclusion: There was an association between the CDAI and HGS, but there was a gender difference, and there was an association between the CDAI and HGS in male, but the association was not significant in female. Intake of the dietary antioxidants vitamin E, selenium, and zinc was associated with HGS in male, but only zinc was associated with HGS among dietary antioxidants in female.

RÉSUMÉ

Objective: To evaluate different starting doses of recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (rhFSH) on pregnancy outcomes for patients with normal ovarian reserve during gonadotropin- releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocol-controlled ovarian stimulation of in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. Methods: In this retrospective study, a total of 1138 patients undergoing IVF cycles following the GnRH-ant protocol were enrolled. Patients were divided into two groups according to the starting dose of rhFSH. 617 patients received a starting dose of rhFSH of 150 IU, and 521 patients received a starting dose of rhFSH of 225 IU. We compared demographic characteristics, ovarian stimulation and embryological characteristics, and pregnancy and birth outcomes between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the possible effects of the known potential confounding factors on pregnancy outcomes. Results: The number of oocytes retrieved in the 150 IU rhFSH group was significantly lower than those in the 225 IU rhFSH group. There was no significant difference between the two groups referring to embryological characteristics. The proportion of fresh embryo transfer in the 150 IU rhFSH group was significantly higher than that in the 225 IU rhFSH group (48.30% vs. 40.90%), and there was no difference in the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and pregnancy outcomes between the two groups. Conclusions: In conclusion, the starting dose of rhFSH of 150 IU for ovarian stimulation has a similar pregnancy outcome as starting dose of rhFSH of 225 IU in GnRH-ant protocol for patients with normal ovarian reserve. Considering the potential cost-effectiveness and shorter time to live birth, the starting dose of rhFSH of 150 IU may be more suitable than 225 IU.

RÉSUMÉ

Plant flavonoids are valuable natural antioxidants. Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) leaves are rich in flavonoids, regenerate rapidly, and can adapt to harsh environments, making them an ideal material for flavonoid biofortification. Here, we demonstrate that the B-box (BBX) family transcription factor IbBBX29 regulates the flavonoid contents and development of sweet potato leaves. IbBBX29 was highly expressed in sweet potato leaves and significantly induced by auxin (IAA). Overexpression of IbBBX29 contributed to a 21.37%-70.94% increase in leaf biomass, a 12.08%-21.85% increase in IAA levels, and a 31.33%-63.03% increase in flavonoid accumulation in sweet potato, whereas silencing this gene produced opposite effects. Heterologous expression of IbBBX29 in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) led to a dwarfed phenotype, along with enhanced IAA and flavonoid accumulation. RNA-seq analysis revealed that IbBBX29 modulates the expression of genes involved in the IAA signaling and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways. Chromatin immunoprecipitation-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and electrophoretic mobility shift assay indicated that IbBBX29 targets key genes of IAA signaling and flavonoid biosynthesis to activate their expression by binding to specific T/G-boxes in their promoters, especially those adjacent to the transcription start site. Moreover, IbBBX29 physically interacted with developmental and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis-related proteins, such as AGAMOUS-LIKE 21 protein IbAGL21 and MYB308-like protein IbMYB308L. Finally, overexpressing IbBBX29 also increased flavonoid contents in sweet potato storage roots. These findings indicate that IbBBX29 plays a pivotal role in regulating IAA-mediated leaf development and flavonoid biosynthesis in sweet potato and Arabidopsis, providing a candidate gene for flavonoid biofortification in plants.

RÉSUMÉ

Background@#in vitro culture of preantral follicles is a promising technology for fertility preservation. @*Objectives@#This study aims to investigate an optimized three-dimensional (3D) fetal bovine serum (FBS)-free preantral follicle culture system having a simple and easy operation. @*Methods@#The isolated follicles from mouse ovaries were randomly divided in an ultra-low attachment 96-well plates supplement with FBS or bovine serum albumin (BSA) culture or encapsulated with an alginate supplement with FBS or BSA culture. Meanwhile, estradiol (E 2 ) concentration was assessed through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay of culture supernatants. The diameter of follicular growth was measured, and the lumen of the follicle was photographed. Spindle microtubules of oocytes were detected via immunofluorescence. The ability of oocytes to fertilize was assessed using in vitro fertilization. @*Results@#The diameters were larger for the growing secondary follicles cultured in ultra-low attachment 96-well plates than in the alginate gel on days 6, 8, and 10 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the E 2 concentration in the BSA-supplemented medium was significantly higher in the alginate gel than in the other three groups on days 6 and 8 (p < 0.05), and the oocytes in the FBS-free system could complete meiosis and fertilization in vitro. @*Conclusions@#The present study furnishes insights into the mature oocytes obtained from the 3D culture of the preantral follicle by using ultra-low attachment 96-well plate with an FBSfree system in vitro and supports the clinical practices to achieve competent, mature oocytes for in vitro fertilization.

RÉSUMÉ

Objective:To observe the clinical and multimodal imaging features of eyes with acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).Methods:A retrospective study. From December 20, 2022 to January 17, 2023, a total of 29 patients (58 eyes) with COVID-19-associated AMN admitted to Department of Ophthalmology of Eye and ENT Hospital, Shanghai Medical College were included in the study. All the affected eyes underwent the best corrected visual acuity, color fundus photography, infrared fundus photography (IR), short-wavelength autofluorescence (SW-AF), near-infrared autofluorescence (NIL-AF), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and OCT angiography (OCTA). All patients were administered microcirculation-improving oral medication with 12 cases receiving adjunctive low-dose corticosteroid therapy. Follow-ups were conducted 1 to 3 months after the initial diagnosis, with a total of 19 cases (38 eyes) completing the one-month follow-up.Results:Out of the 29 cases, there were 9 males (18 eyes) and 20 females (40 eyes), all of whom experienced bilateral eye involvement. The age of the patients ranged from 12 to 47 years, with an average age of (29.9±9.5) years. The time from the onset of fever to the appearance of ocular symptoms was (2.52±2.01) days. Among the 58 affected eyes, there were 5 cases with retinal cotton wool spots, 2 cases with optic disc edema, and 1 case with parafoveal branch retinal vein occlusion. All affected eyes exhibited deep reddish-brown macular dark spots. IR revealed wedge-shaped, wedge-like, or "petaloid-like" dark areas involving the fovea and parafovea. SW-AF examination showed no obvious abnormality in 39 eyes. Weak autofluorescence dark area were consistent with IR in 19 eyes. NIR-AF examination showed spot-like or flaky self-fluorescent dark areas. OCT examination showed strong reflex lesions spreading vertically upward from the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) layer in the macular area in the acute stage, showing typical "bean seedling" sign. OCTA revealed reduced blood flow density in the deep capillary plexus (DCP) of 50 eyes. Enface OCT displayed lesion areas that corresponded to the dark areas seen in IR. One month after the initial diagnosis, the condition improved in 18 eyes (47.4%, 18/38). Among the 5 eyes with cotton wool spots, regression of these spots was accompanied by loss of nerve fiber layer in 4 eyes. In cases with optic disc edema, the edema subsided. The "bean sprout" sign disappeared in all affected eyes, and the lesions became localized. The ellipsoid zone and/or interdigitation zone in the lesion areas were discontinuous.Conclusions:COVID-19-related AMN is characterized by distinctive features. IR fundus reveals wedge-shaped, wedge-like, or petaloid dark areas involving the fovea and parafovea. OCT displays strongly reflective lesions with vertical spread above the RPE. OCTA shows reduced blood flow density in the DCP of the retina.

RÉSUMÉ

Objective:To investigate the clinical features and prognosis of patients with choroidal tuberculoma. Methods:A retrospective and observational study. From 2011 to 2022, 15 patients (16 eyes) with choroidal tuberculoma diagnosed and treated in Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University were included. The patients underwent examinations including best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), fundus color photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), fluorescein fundus angiography (FFA), and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA). Chest CT examination, purified protein derivative test and interferon-γ release test were also performed. BCVA was performed using the Snellen visual acuity chart, which was converted to Logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) visual acuity when recorded. All the patients received antitubercular therapy and the duration was 12-15 months. Thirteen patients were combined with oral corticosteroids. The average follow-up time was 36 months. Rank sum test was used to compare logMAR BCVA before and after treatment. Results:Among the 15 patients, 5 were male and 10 were female; 1 case was bilateral involvement; 7 patients had a strong positive tuberculin skin test; 8 patients had a positive interferon-γ release assay. Six patients had pulmonary tuberculosis. One patient had peritoneal tuberculosis. Lesions were located in the posterior pole in 12 eyes, 1 eye with papillary tuberculoma. Peripheral lesions were found in 4 eyes. There were 9 eyes each with anterior segment inflammation or vitreous inflammation; 7 eyes were with exudative retinal detachment. OCT examination revealed a hyporeflective thickening of the choroidal stroma, the corresponding elevation of the retina, and often accompanied by subretinal fluid. FFA revealed hyperfluorescence of the mass and fluorescence accumulation with subretinal fluid at the late stage. ICGA revealed hypofuorescence of the lesion. The lesions subsided after treatment, and there was no recurrence during follow-up period. Cataract surgery was performed in 4 eyes due to complicated cataract. One eye undergone vitrectomy due to secondary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy was performed in 1 eye due to secondary choroidal neovascularization. Ocular wall perforation occurred in 1 eye, and the condition was stable after treatment. Before treatment, the average logMAR BCVA was 1.02±0.57, which improved to 0.31±0.35 after treatment. The difference between the mean logMAR BCVA before and after treatment was statistically significant ( P<0.05). Conclusions:Combination of medical history, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, and imaging can assist in the diagnosis of choroidal tuberculoma. The main manifestations are subretinal yellowish-white lesions in posterior pole. Standardized anti-tuberculosis therapy can effectively improve the prognosis of vision.

RÉSUMÉ

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of depression symptoms in residents, and to analyze the demographic characteristics, training status and psychological influencing factors in order to provide the evidence for the mental health management and intervention of residents in China at current stage. Methods:A total of 1 050 participants from eight different training centers in Shenyang, Dalian, Jinzhou and Fushun of Liaoning Province were investigated by Pittsburgh sleep quality index, International physical activity questionnaire, Survey of perceived organizational support, Psychological capital questionnaire and Minnesota satisfaction questionnaire, which covered questions including social demographic information, training information, sleep status, physical activity, organization support, psychological capital, job satisfaction and depressive symptoms of residents. SPSS 22.0 were used to carry out statistical analysis such as logistic regression. Results:A total of 962 valid questionnaires were collected and the results showed that 44.59% (429/962) of residents had depressive symptoms. High training grade ( ORPGY-3=1.775, P=0.006) and poor quality of sleep ( OR=1.662, P<0.001) were risk factors of depressive symptoms, whereas psychological capital ( OR=0.962, P<0.001) and job satisfaction ( OR=0.972, P=0.001) were protective factors of depressive symptoms. Conclusion:The prevalence of depressive symptoms is high in residents. Training grade, sleep quality, psychological capital and job satisfaction are closely associated with the high prevalence of depressive symptoms, which should be paid more attention to.

RÉSUMÉ

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the effectiveness of O-arm navigation and ultrasound volume navigation (UVN) in guiding screw placement during minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) surgery.@*METHODS@#Sixty patients who underwent MIS-TLIF surgery for lumbar disc herniation between June 2022 and June 2023 and met the selection criteria were included in the study. They were randomly assigned to group A (screw placement guided by UVN during MIS-TLIF) or group B (screw placement guided by O-arm navigation during MIS-TLIF), with 30 cases in each group. There was no significant difference in baseline data, including gender, age, body mass index, and surgical segment, between the two groups ( P>0.05). Intraoperative data, including average single screw placement time, total radiation dose, and average single screw effective radiation dose, were recorded and calculated. Postoperatively, X-ray film and CT scans were performed at 10 days to evaluate screw placement accuracy and assess facet joint violation. Pearson correlation and Spearman correlation analyses were used to observe the relationship between the studied parameters (average single screw placement time and screw placement accuracy grading) and BMI.@*RESULTS@#The average single screw placement time in group B was significantly shorter than that in group A, and the total radiation dose of single segment and multi-segment and the average single screw effective radiation dose in group B were significantly higher than those in group A ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the total radiation dose between single segment and multiple segments in group B ( P>0.05), while the total radiation dose of multiple segments was significantly higher than that of single segment in group A ( P<0.05). No significant difference was found in the accuracy of screw implantation between the two groups ( P>0.05). In both groups, the grade 1 and grade 2 screws broke through the outer wall of the pedicle, and no screw broke through the inner wall of the pedicle. There was no significant difference in the rate of facet joint violation between the two groups ( P>0.05). In group A, both the average single screw placement time and screw placement accuracy grading were positively correlated with BMI ( r=0.677, P<0.001; r=0.222, P=0.012), while in group B, neither of them was correlated with BMI ( r=0.224, P=0.233; r=0.034, P=0.697).@*CONCLUSION@#UVN-guided screw placement in MIS-TLIF surgery demonstrates comparable efficiency, visualization, and accuracy to O-arm navigation, while significantly reducing radiation exposure. However, it may be influenced by factors such as obesity, which poses certain limitations.

RÉSUMÉ

PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect of real-time feedback on the restoration of spontaneous circulation, survival to hospital discharge, and favorable functional outcomes after hospital discharge. METHODS: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were searched to screen the relevant studies up to June 2020. Fixed-effects or random-effects model were used to calculate the pooled estimates of relative ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: Ten relevant articles on 4281 cardiac arrest cases were identified. The pooled analyses indicated that real-time feedback did not improve restoration of spontaneous circulation (RR: 1.13, 95% CI: 0.92-1.37, and P = .24; I2 = 81%; P < .001), survival to hospital discharge (RR: 1.27, 95% CI: 0.90-1.79, and P = .18; I2 = 74%; P < .001), and favorable neurological outcomes after hospital discharge (RR: 1.09, 95% CI: 0.87-1.38; P = .45; I2 = 16%; P = .31). The predefined subgroup analysis showed that the sample size and arrest location may be the origin of heterogeneity. Begg's and Egger's tests showed no publication bias, and sensitivity analysis indicated that the results were stable. CONCLUSION: The meta-analysis had shown that the implementation of real-time audiovisual feedback was not associated with improved restoration of spontaneous circulation, increased survival, and favorable functional outcomes after hospital discharge.

RÉSUMÉ

Cavernous hemangioma is a rare, benign tumor and usually uncommon in adults. It is often difficult to diagnose in time because conventional medical imaging examinations usually fail to provide valid information. Clinicians should attach importance to the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound as an adjunct to rapidly diagnose cavernous hemangioma.

RÉSUMÉ

INTRODUCTION: Diffuse midline glioma with H3-K27M mutation is an infiltrative high-grade glioma, with predominantly astrocytic differentiation. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 54-year-old Chinese woman presented with memory loss for a month and walking instability for 15 days. DIAGNOSIS: Magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass shadow of isometric T1 and slightly longer T2 with mild mixed signals in the third ventricle of the suprasellar region. Histologically, the tumor was primarily sheet-like, with many "anucleate areas" composed of long and thin fibrillary processes of the bipolar cells, which formed "whorls." The neoplastic nuclei were ovoid and moderate in size. The tumor showed brisk mitotic activity and vascular proliferation, with no necrosis. In addition to histone H3K27M mutation, immunohistochemical staining showed that the tumor cells were positive for glial fibrillary acidic protein, oligodendrocyte transcription factor 2, alpha-thalassemia/mental retardation syndrome X, S-100 and Vimentin. The "anucleate areas" were positive for glial fibrillary acidic protein and negative for synaptophysin. The Ki-67 proliferation index was about 10%. Molecular genetic analyses detected H3F3A K27M mutation, but no mutations in IDH1 or IDH2, TERT promoter mutations, MGMT promoter methylation, KIAA1549-BRAF fusion or deletion of 1p/19q were found. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed as diffuse midline glioma with H3-K27M mutation in the third ventricle, corresponding to WHO grade 4. INTERVENTIONS: A craniotomy with total excision of the tumor was performed. OUTCOMES: After surgery, she was routinely treated with temozolomide for chemotherapy and synchronous radiotherapy. It has been 11 months now, and the patient is living well. CONCLUSION: This case report provides information on the microscopic morphological features of diffuse midline glioma with H3K27M mutation, which can help pathologists to make a definitive diagnosis of this tumor.
