PURPOSE: To compare psychosocial outcomes of older adults according to pain experience. METHOD: Using cross-sectional 2021 data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study, we examined psychosocial characteristics in older adults (N = 3,376) divided into three groups: no pain, pain without activity limitations, and activity-limiting pain. RESULTS: In multiple regression models, older adults with activity-limiting pain compared to those without pain had significantly higher depression, anxiety, and fear of falling, as well as reduced positive affect, self-realization, self-efficacy, resilience, and social participation. Older adults with non-activity-limiting pain had significantly higher social participation than those without pain, but no differences in self-realization, self-efficacy, or resilience. CONCLUSION: Pain is strongly associated with all psychosocial outcomes, especially in older adults with activity-limiting pain. Future research should examine the impact of self-realization, self-efficacy, resilience, and social participation on activity limitations. [Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 50(7), 27-34.].

A major impediment to the clinical translation of DNA tiling nanostructures is a technical bottleneck for the programmable assembly of DNA architectures with well-defined local geometry due to the inability to achieve both sufficient structural rigidity and a large framework. In this work, a Y-backbone was inserted into each face to construct a superlarge, sufficiently rigidified tetrahedral DNA nanostructure (called RDT) with extremely high efficiency. In RDT, the spatial size increased by 6.86-fold, and the structural rigidity was enhanced at least 4-fold, contributing to an ∼350-fold improvement in the resistance to nucleolytic degradation even without a protective coating. RDT can be mounted onto an artificial lipid-bilayer membrane with molecular-level precision and well-defined spatial orientation that can be validated using the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) assay. The spatial orientation of Y-shaped backbone-rigidified RDT is unachievable for conventional DNA polyhedrons and ensures a high level of precision in the geometric positioning of diverse biomolecules with an approximately homogeneous environment. In tests of RDT, surface-confined horseradish peroxidase (HRP) exhibited nearly 100% catalytic activity and targeting aptamer-immobilized gold nanoparticles showed 5.3-fold enhanced cellular internalization. Significantly, RDT exhibited a 27.5-fold enhanced structural stability in a bodily environment and did not induce detectable systemic toxicity.

Tetraploid oysters are artificially produced oysters that do not exist in nature. The successful breeding of 100% triploid oysters resolved the difficulties of traditional drug-induced triploids, such as the presence of drug residues and a low triploid induction rate. However, little is known concerning the biochemical composition and nutrient contents of such tetraploids. Therefore, we investigated compositional differences among diploid, triploid, and tetraploid Crassostrea gigas as well as between males and females of diploids and tetraploids. The findings indicated that glycogen, EPA, ∑PUFA, and omega-3 contents were significantly higher in triploid oysters than in diploids or tetraploids; tetraploid oysters had a significantly higher protein content, C14:0, essential amino acid, and flavor-presenting amino acid contents than diploids or triploids. For both diploid and tetraploids, females had significantly higher levels of glutamate, methionine, and phenylalanine than males but lower levels of glycine and alanine. In addition, female oysters had significantly more EPA, DHA, omega-3, and total fatty acids, a result that may be due to the fact that gonadal development in male oysters requires more energy to sustain growth, consumes greater amounts of nutrients, and accumulates more proteins. With these results, important information is provided on the production of C. gigas, as well as on the basis and backing for the genetic breeding of oysters.

Over the years, oysters have faced recurring mass mortality issues during the summer breeding season, with Vibrio infection emerging as a significant contributing factor. Tubules of gill filaments were confirmed to be in the hematopoietic position in Crassostrea gigas, which produce hemocytes with immune defense capabilities. Additionally, the epithelial cells of oyster gills produce immune effectors to defend against pathogens. In light of this, we performed a transcriptome analysis of gill tissues obtained from C. gigas infected with Vibrio alginolyticus for 12 h and 48 h. Through this analysis, we identified 1024 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) at 12 h post-injection and 1079 DEGs at 48 h post-injection. Enrichment analysis of these DEGs revealed a significant association with immune-related Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. To further investigate the immune response, we constructed a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network using the DEGs enriched in immune-associated KEGG pathways. This network provided insights into the interactions and relationships among these genes, shedding light on the underlying mechanisms of the innate immune defense mechanism in oyster gills. To ensure the accuracy of our findings, we validated 16 key genes using quantitative RT-PCR. Overall, this study represents the first exploration of the innate immune defense mechanism in oyster gills using a PPI network approach. The findings provide valuable insights for future research on oyster pathogen control and the development of oysters with enhanced antimicrobial resistance.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we analyzed whether scalp nerve block with ropivacaine can improve the quality of rehabilitation in patients after meningioma resection. METHODS: We included 150 patients who were undergoing craniotomy in our hospital and categorized them into 2 groups - observation group (patients received an additional regional scalp nerve block anesthesia) and control group (patients underwent intravenous general anesthesia for surgery), using the random number table method approach (75 patients in each group). The main indicator of the study was the Karnofsky Performance Scale scores of patients at 3 days postoperatively, and the secondary indicator was the anesthesia satisfaction scores of patients after awakening from anesthesia. The application value of different anesthesia modes was studied and compared in the 2 groups. RESULTS: Patients in the observation group showed better anesthesia effects than those in the control group, with significantly higher Karnofsky Performance Scale scores at 3 days postoperatively (75.02 vs 66.43, P < .05) and anesthesia satisfaction scores. Compared with patients in the control group, patients in the observation group had lower pain degrees at different times after the surgery, markedly lower dose of propofol and remifentanil for anesthesia, and lower incidence of adverse reactions and postoperative complications. In addition, the satisfaction score of the patients and their families for the treatment was higher and the results of all the indicators were better in the observation group than in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P < .05). CONCLUSION: Scalp nerve block with ropivacaine significantly improves the quality of short-term postoperative rehabilitation in patients undergoing elective craniotomy for meningioma resection. This is presumably related to the improvements in intraoperative hemodynamics, relief from postoperative pain, and reduction in postoperative nausea and vomiting.

Significant pharmacokinetic (PK) differences exist between different forms of valproic acid (VPA), such as syrup and sustained-release (SR) tablets. This study aimed to develop a population pharmacokinetic (PopPK) model for VPA in children with epilepsy and offer dose adjustment recommendation for switching dosage forms as needed. The study collected 1411 VPA steady-state trough concentrations (Ctrough) from 617 children with epilepsy. Using NONMEM software, a PopPK model was developed, employing a stepwise approach to identify possible variables such as demographic information and concomitant medications. The final model underwent internal and external evaluation via graphical and statistical methods. Moreover, Monte Carlo simulations were used to generate a dose tailoring strategy for typical patients weighting 20-50 kg. As a result, the PK characteristics of VPA were described using a one-compartment model with first-order absorption. The absorption rate constant (ka) was set at 2.64 and 0.46 h-1 for syrup and SR tablets. Body weight and sex were identified as significant factors affecting VPA's pharmacokinetics. The final PopPK model demonstrated acceptable prediction performance and stability during internal and external evaluation. For children taking syrup, a daily dose of 25 mg/kg resulted in the highest probability of achieving the desired target Ctrough, while a dose of 20 mg/kg/day was appropriate for those taking SR tablets. In conclusion, we established a PopPK model for VPA in children with epilepsy to tailor VPA dosage when switching between syrup and SR tablets, aiming to improve plasma VPA concentrations fluctuations.

As demand for higher integration density and smaller devices grows, silicon-based complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) devices will soon reach their ultimate limits. 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) semiconductors, known for excellent electrical performance and stable atomic structure, are seen as promising materials for future integrated circuits. However, controlled and reliable doping of 2D TMDs, a key step for creating homogeneous CMOS logic components, remains a challenge. In this study, a continuous electrical polarity modulation of monolayer WS2 from intrinsic n-type to ambipolar, then to p-type, and ultimately to a quasi-metallic state is achieved simply by introducing controllable amounts of vanadium (V) atoms into the WS2 lattice as p-type dopants during chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The achievement of purely p-type field-effect transistors (FETs) is particularly noteworthy based on the 4.7 at% V-doped monolayer WS2, demonstrating a remarkable on/off current ratio of 105. Expanding on this triumph, the first initial prototype of ultrathin homogeneous CMOS inverters based on monolayer WS2 is being constructed. These outcomes validate the feasibility of constructing homogeneous CMOS devices through the atomic doping process of 2D materials, marking a significant milestone for the future development of integrated circuits.

BACKGROUND: Despite advancements in school scoliosis screening (SSS), there are still no effective indicators to estimate the severity of spinal curvature. We aim to investigate the association between incorrect postures and curve magnitude of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) among Chinese adolescents. METHODS: In this SSS program, we examined the incorrect posture, Adam's forward bending test (FBT) results, and angle of trunk rotation (ATR) in adolescents. Those with suspected scoliosis were referred for a standing anteroposterior whole-spine radiography as outpatients. The radiographic data of 426 students with lateral Cobb angles were collected from 2016 to 2022 and the associations were studied using logistic regression (LR) models and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: Univariate LR revealed that female gender [odds ratio (OR) = 2.92, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.67-5.09, P < 0.001], age 16-19y (OR = 2.83, 95%CI 1.10-7.28, P = 0.031), right shoulder height (OR = 2.15, 95%CI 1.23-3.75, P = 0.007), right scapula tilt (OR = 2.03, 95%CI 1.18-3.50, P = 0.010), right rib hump (OR = 1.88, 95%CI 1.23-2.85, P = 0.003), right thoracic rotation ≥ 5° (OR = 2.14, 95%CI 1.43-3.20, P < 0.001), and left thoracolumbar kyphosis (OR = 3.79, 95%CI 1.06-13.56, P = 0.041) were all significantly associated with the severity of the curve magnitude. Multivariate LR showed that female gender [adjusted OR (AOR) = 3.23, 95%CI 1.81-5.73, P < 0.001], those aged 16-19y (AOR = 5.08, 95%CI 1.86-13.91, P = 0.002), and with a right rib hump (AOR = 1.72, 95%CI 1.11-2.64, P = 0.015) presented with a higher risk of severe curve magnitude than men, those aged 7-12y, and without a rib hump, respectively. ROC curves further proved that sex, age, shoulder-height difference, scapula tilt, flat back, rib hump, angle of thoracic rotation were the risk predictors for curve magnitude. CONCLUSION: Incorrect posture and ATR, especially the right rib hump, were significantly associated with the curve magnitude of AIS. Early screening for incorrect postures and ATR could be an effective and economical strategy to predict the severity of AIS through SSS in Chinese adolescents.

TIR domain-containing adaptor inducing IFN-ß (TRIF) is a crucial adaptor molecule downstream of toll-like receptors 3 (TLR3) and 4 (TLR4). TRIF directly binds to TLR3 through its TIR domain, while it associates with TLR4 indirectly through the bridge adaptor molecule TRIF-related adaptor molecule (TRAM). TRIF plays a pivotal role in regulating interferon beta 1 (IFN-ß) response, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling, apoptosis, and necroptosis signaling mediated by TLR3 and TLR4. It accomplishes these by recruiting and activating various kinases or transcription factors via its distinct domains. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the TRIF-dependent signaling pathways mediated by TLR3 and TLR4, elucidating key target molecules and downstream pathways. Furthermore, we provide an overview of TRIF's impact on several liver disorders, including drug-induced liver injury, ischemia-reperfusion liver injury, autoimmune hepatitis, viral hepatitis, alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). We also explore its effects on liver steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, and carcinogenesis. A comprehensive understanding of the TRIF-dependent signaling pathways, as well as the intricate relationship between TRIF and liver diseases, can facilitate the identification of potential drug targets and the development of novel and effective therapeutics against hepatic disorders.

In order to investigate the failure modes and instability mechanism of fractured rock. Uniaxial compression tests were conducted on sandstone specimens with different dip angles. Based on rock energy dissipation theory and fractal theory, the energy evolution characteristics and fragmentation fractal characteristics in the process of deformation and failure of specimens were analyzed. The results show that the peak strength and elastic modulus of fractured rock mass are lower than those of intact samples, and both show an exponential increase with the increase of fracture dip angle. The energy evolution laws of different fracture specimens are roughly similar and can be classified into four stages based on the stress-strain curve: pressure-tight, elastic, plastic, and post-destructive. The total strain energy, elastic strain energy, and dissipated strain energy of the specimen at the peak stress point increased exponentially with crack inclination, and the dissipated strain energy and compressive strength conformed to a power function growth relationship. The distribution of the fragments after the failure of the fracture sample has fractal characteristics, and the fractal dimension increases with the increase of the fracture dip angle. In addition, the higher the compressive strength of the specimen, the greater the energy dissipation, the more serious the degree of fragmentation, and the greater the fractal dimension. The data fitting further shows that there is a power function relationship between the dissipated strain energy and the fractal dimension. The research results can provide a theoretical basis for the stability of rock mass engineering and structural deformation control.

Tryptophan metabolism plays a crucial role in facilitating various cellular processes essential for maintaining normal cellular function. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) catalyzes the conversion of tryptophan (Trp) into kynurenine (Kyn), thereby initiating the degradation of Trp. The resulting Kyn metabolites have been implicated in the modulation of immune responses. Currently, the role of IDO1-mediated tryptophan metabolism in the process of viral infection remains relatively unknown. In this study, we discovered that classical swine fever virus (CSFV) infection of PK-15 cells can induce the expression of IDO1, thereby promoting tryptophan metabolism. IDO1 can negatively regulate the NF-κB signaling by mediating tryptophan metabolism, thereby facilitating CSFV replication. We found that silencing the IDO1 gene enhances the expression of IFN-α, IFN-ß, and IL-6 by activating the NF-κB signaling pathway. Furthermore, our observations indicate that both silencing the IDO1 gene and administering exogenous tryptophan can inhibit CSFV replication by counteracting the cellular autophagy induced by Rapamycin. This study reveals a novel mechanism of IDO1-mediated tryptophan metabolism in CSFV infection, providing new insights and a theoretical basis for the treatment and control of CSFV.IMPORTANCEIt is well known that due to the widespread use of vaccines, the prevalence of classical swine fever (CSF) is shifting towards atypical and invisible infections. CSF can disrupt host metabolism, leading to persistent immune suppression in the host and causing significant harm when co-infected with other diseases. Changes in the host's metabolic profiles, such as increased catabolic metabolism of amino acids and the production of immunoregulatory metabolites and their derivatives, can also influence virus replication. Mammals utilize various pathways to modulate immune responses through amino acid utilization, including increased catabolic metabolism of amino acids and the production of immunoregulatory metabolites and their derivatives, thereby limiting viral replication. Therefore, this study proposes that targeting the modulation of tryptophan metabolism may represent an effective approach to control the progression of CSF.

Inorganic semiconductors typically have limited p-type behavior due to the scarcity of holes and the localized valence band maximum, hindering the progress of complementary devices and circuits. In this work, we propose an inorganic blending strategy to activate the hole-transporting character in an inorganic semiconductor compound, namely tellurium-selenium-oxygen (TeSeO). By rationally combining intrinsic p-type semimetal, semiconductor, and wide-bandgap semiconductor into a single compound, the TeSeO system displays tunable bandgaps ranging from 0.7 to 2.2 eV. Wafer-scale ultrathin TeSeO films, which can be deposited at room temperature, display high hole field-effect mobility of 48.5 cm2/(Vs) and robust hole transport properties, facilitated by Te-Te (Se) portions and O-Te-O portions, respectively. The nanosphere lithography process is employed to create nanopatterned honeycomb TeSeO broadband photodetectors, demonstrating a high responsibility of 603 A/W, an ultrafast response of 5 µs, and superior mechanical flexibility. The p-type TeSeO system is highly adaptable, scalable, and reliable, which can address emerging technological needs that current semiconductor solutions may not fulfill.

Cyclosporine A (CsA) is a widely used immunosuppressive drug with a narrow therapeutic index and large individual differences. Its therapeutic and toxic effects are closely related to blood drug concentrations, requiring routine therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). The current main methods for TDM of CsA are enzyme multiplied immunoassay technique (EMIT) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). However, few study on the method comparison of the EMIT and LC-MS/MS for the measurement of whole blood CsA concentration in children has been reported. In this study, we developed a simple and sensitive LC-MS/MS assay for the determination of CsA, and 657 cases of CsA concentrations were determined from 197 pediatric patients by a routine EMIT assay and by the validated in-house LC-MS/MS method on the same batch of samples, aimed to address the aforementioned concern. Consistency between the two assays was evaluated using linear regression and Bland-Altman analysis. The linear range of LC-MS/MS was 0.500-2000 ng/mL and that of the EMIT was 40-500 ng/mL, respectively. Overall, the correlation between the two methods was significant (r-value ranging from 0.8842 to 0.9441). Unsatisfactory consistency was observed in the concentrations < 40 ng/mL (r = 0.7325) and 200-500 ng/mL (r = 0.6851). Bland-Altman plot showed a mean bias of -18.0 % (±1.96 SD, -73.8 to 37.8 %) between EMIT and LC-MS/MS. For Passing-Bablok regression between EMIT and LC-MS/MS did not differ significantly (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the two methods were closely correlated, but the CsA concentration by LC-MS/MS assay was slightly higher than that by EMIT method. Switching from the EMIT assay to the LC-MS/MS method was acceptable, and the LC-MS/MS method will receive broader application in clinical settings due to its better analytical capabilities, but the results need to be further verified in different laboratories.

BACKGROUND: Ciliary body tumor is extremely rare and treatment is challenging. The aim of this study is to present our experience in treating this rare entity, especially large tumors with more than 5 clock hours of involvement, and to evaluate the surgical outcomes and complications of local resection via partial lamellar sclerouvectomy in four cases of ciliary body tumors in China. METHODS: Four patients with ciliary body tumors underwent partial lamellar sclerouvectomy between October 2019 and April 2023 in Shanghai General Hospital, China. Tumor features, histopathologic findings, complications, visual acuity, and surgical outcomes were reviewed at a mean follow-up of 20.8 months. RESULTS: Four patients with a mean age of 31.8 years were included in this study. The histopathological diagnosis was adenoma of non-pigmented ciliary epithelium (ANPCE), schwannoma, and multiple ciliary body pigment epithelial cysts. The mean largest tumor base diameter was 6.00 mm (range: 2.00-10.00) and the mean tumor thickness was 3.50 mm (range: 2.00-5.00). Preoperative complications included cataract in 3 (75%) eyes, lens dislocation in 2 (50%), and secondary glaucoma in 1 (25%). Temporary ocular hypotonia was observed in one case and no other postoperative complications were observed. At a mean follow-up of 20.8 months, the best corrected visual acuity increased in 3 eyes and was stable in 1 eye. Tumor recurrence was absent in all eyes. All patients were alive at the end of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Local tumor resection via PLSU is useful in the treatment of ciliary body tumors, including large tumors occupying more than five clock hours of pars plicata. Surgery-related complications were manageable with adequate preoperative assessment and careful operation during surgery.

Detection of intracellular miRNAs, especially sensitive imaging of in vivo miRNAs, is vital to the precise prediction and timely prevention of tumorgenesis but remains a technical challenge in terms of nuclease resistance and signal amplification. Here, we demonstrate a gold nanoparticle-based spherical nucleic acid-mediated spatial matching-guided nonenzymatic DNA circuit (SSDC) for efficient screening of intracellular miRNAs and, in turn, finding cancerous tissues in living organisms before the appearance of clinical symptoms. Due to the substantially enhanced nuclease resistance, the false positive signal is avoided even in a complex biological medium. Target miRNA can straighten out the hairpin DNA probe to be linear, allowing the probe to penetrate into the internal region of a core/shell DNA-functionalized signal nanoampfilier and initiate a strand displacement reaction, generating an amplified fluorescence signal. The detection limit is as low as 17 pM, and miRNA imaging is in good accordance with the gold standard polymerase chain reaction method. The ability to image intracellular miRNAs is substantially superior to that of conventional fluorescence in situ hybridization techniques, making in vivo SSDC-based imaging competent for the precise prediction of tumorigenesis. By intratumoral chemotherapy guided by SSDC-based imaging, tumorigenesis and progression are efficiently controlled before the onset of clinical symptoms.

Background: Recent studies have shown that young patients with gastric cancer are at a more advanced stage and have poor survival, but the cause is still unclear. The prognosis of gastric cancer is closely related to LNM, but the relationship between age and LNM in early gastric cancer (EGC) is currently unclear. Therefore, we aimed to study the relationship between age and the risk of LNM in EGC. Materials and Methods: We screened out patients with EGC who underwent surgery from the SEER research database from 1975 to 2016, and retrospectively analyzed the proportion of LNM in different age groups. We grouped age into 18-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and ≥ 80 years old, and used univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression to analyze the correlation between age and LNM. Results: We included 9231 patients with EGC, with LNM rates of 20.3%, 23.3%, 21.0%, 19.8%, 18.1%, and 13.2% in the age groups of 18-39 years old (2.3%), 40-49 (6.1%), 50-59 years old (15.7%), 60-69 years old (24.8%), 70-79 years old (27.2%) and ≥80 years old (23.9%), respectively. We found that when older than 39 years old, the risk of LNM and postoperative survival time of EGC patients decrease (p<0.001). Multivariate analysis results showed that age, tumor size, the number of retrieved lymph nodes (rN), tumor grade, and tumor location were related to LNM. Conclusions: This study found that age in patients with EGC was inversely related to the risk of LNM, and positively correlated with postoperative survival. For older patients with EGC, endoscopic treatment is more appropriate. For young patients with EGC, LNM should be considered when choosing endoscopic treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the accuracy and safety of the LANCET robotic system, a robot arm assisted operation system for total hip arthroplasty via a multicenter clinical randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 116 patients were randomized into two groups: LANCET robotic arm assisted THA group (N = 58) and the conventional THA group (N = 58). General information about the patients was collected preoperatively. Operational time and bleeding were recorded during the surgery. The position of the acetabular prosthesis was evaluated by radiographs one week after surgery and compared with preoperative planning. Harris score, hip mobility, prosthesis position and angle and complications were compared between the two groups at three months postoperatively. Results: None of the 111 patients who ultimately completed the 3-month follow-up experienced adverse events such as hip dislocation and infection during follow-up. In the RAA group, 52 (92.9 %) patients were located in the Lewinnek safe zone and 49 (87.5 %) patients were located in the Callanan safe zone. In the control group were 47 (85.5 %) and 44 (80.0 %) patients, respectively. In the RAA group, 53 (94.6 %) patients had a postoperative acetabular inclination angle and 51 (91.1 %) patients had an acetabular version angle within a deviation of 5° from the preoperative plan. These numbers were significantly higher than those of the control group, which consisted of 42 (76.4 %) and 34 (61.8 %) patients respectively. There were no significant differences between the two groups of subjects in terms of general condition, intraoperative bleeding, hip mobility, and adverse complications. Conclusion: The results of this prospective randomized, multicenter, parallel-controlled clinical study demonstrated that the LANCET robotic system leads conventional THA surgery in accuracy of acetabular cup placement and does not differ from conventional THA surgery in terms of postoperative hip functional recovery and complications. The translational potential of this article: In the past, the success rate of total hip arthroplasty (THA) relied heavily on the surgeon's experience. As a result, junior doctors needed extensive training to become proficient in this technique. However, the introduction of surgical robots has significantly improved this situation. By utilizing robotic assistance, both junior and senior doctors can perform THA quickly and efficiently. This advancement is crucial for the widespread adoption of THA, as patients can now receive surgical treatment in local facilities instead of overwhelming larger hospitals and straining medical resources. Moreover, the development of surgical robots with fully independent intellectual property rights holds immense value in overcoming the limitations of high-end medical equipment. This aligns with the objectives outlined in the 14th Five Year Plan for National Science and Technology Strategy.

Background: Iatrogenic splenic injury (ISI) is a recognized complication in radical gastrectomy that may result in incidental splenectomy (IS). However, the predictors of such events remain largely unknown. Methods: Medical records of the patients who underwent radical gastrectomy at our institution between January 2015 and December 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Potential predictors of ISI and IS were collected and analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. Results were reported as an odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: A total of 2916 patients were included, of whom 211 patients (7.2%) suffered from ISI and 75 patients (2.6%) underwent IS. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that BMI≥25 (OR: 3.198 (2.356-4.326), p<0.001), total gastrectomy (OR: 2.201 (1.601-3.025), p<0.001), and the existence of "criminal fold" (OR: 13.899 (2.824-251.597), p=0.011) were independent predictive risk factors for ISI; whereas laparoscopic surgical approach (OR: 0.048 (0.007-0.172), p<0.001) was a protective factor for ISI. Moreover, the existence of "criminal fold" (OR: 15.745 (3.106-288.470), p=0.008) and BMI≥25 (OR: 2.498 (1.002-6.046), p=0.044) were identified as independent risk factors of ISI under laparoscopic gastrectomy. There was no association between sex, age, previous abdominal surgery, neoadjuvant therapy, outlet obstruction, tumor stage, nodal stage, and total lymph node retrieved and ISI. Conclusions: BMI≥25 and total gastrectomy can predict high risk of ISI during radical gastrectomy. Laparoscopic surgery is superior to open gastrectomy in lowing the risk of ISI.

Single-atom nanozyme-based catalytic therapy is of great interest in the field of tumor catalytic therapy; however, their development suffers from the low affinity of nanozymes to the substrates (H2O2 or O2), leading to deficient catalytic activity in the tumor microenvironment. Herein, we report a new strategy for precisely tuning the d-band center of dual-atomic sites to enhance the affinity of metal atomic sites and substrates on a class of edge-rich N-doped porous carbon dual-atomic sites Fe-Mn (Fe1Mn1-NCe) for greatly boosting multiple-enzyme-like catalytic activities. The as-made Fe1Mn1-NCe achieved a much higher catalytic efficiency (Kcat/Km = 4.01 × 105 S-1·M-1) than Fe1-NCe (Kcat/Km = 2.41 × 104 S-1·M-1) with an outstanding stability of over 90% activity retention after 1 year, which is the best among the reported dual-atom nanozymes. Theoretical calculations reveal that the synergetic effect of Mn upshifts the d-band center of Fe from -1.113 to -0.564 eV and enhances the adsorption capacity for the substrate, thus accelerating the dissociation of H2O2 and weakening the O-O bond on O2. We further demonstrated that the superior enzyme-like catalytic activity of Fe1Mn1-NCe combined with photothermal therapy could effectively inhibit tumor growth in vivo, with an inhibition rate of up to 95.74%, which is the highest value among the dual-atom artificial enzyme therapies reported so far.
