Anthrax is an acute infectious zoonotic disease caused by Bacillus anthracis, a bacterium that is considered a potential biological warfare agent. Bacillus bacteriophages shape the composition and evolution of bacterial communities in nature and therefore have important roles in the ecosystem community. B. anthracis phages are not only used in etiological diagnostics but also have promising prospects in clinical therapeutics or for disinfection in anthrax outbreaks. In this study, two temperate B. anthracis phages, vB_BanS_A16R1 (A16R1) and vB_BanS_A16R4 (A16R4), were isolated and showed siphovirus-like morphological characteristics. Genome sequencing showed that the genomes of phages A16R1 and A16R4 are 36,569 bp and 40,059 bp in length, respectively. A16R1 belongs to the genus Wbetavirus, while A16R4 belongs to the genus Hubeivirus and is the first phage of that genus found to lyse B. anthracis. Because these two phages can comparatively specifically lyse B. anthracis, they could be used as alternative diagnostic tools for identification of B. anthracis infections.

With the rising incidence of various diseases in China and the constant development of the pharmaceutical industry, there is a growing demand for floxacin-type antibiotics. Due to the large-scale production and high cost of waste treatment, the parent drug and its metabolites constantly enter the water environment through domestic sewage, production wastewater, and other pathways. In recent years, the pollution of the aquatic environment by floxacin has become increasingly serious, making the technology to degrade floxacin in the aquatic environment a research hotspot in the field of environmental science. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a new type of porous material, have attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, four photocatalytic materials, MIL-53(Fe), NH2-MIL-53(Fe), MIL-100(Fe), and g-C3N4, were synthesised and applied to the study of the removal of ofloxacin and enrofloxacin. Among them, the MIL-100(Fe) material exhibited the best photocatalytic effect. The degradation efficiency of ofloxacin reached 95.1% after 3 h under visible light, while enrofloxacin was basically completely degraded. The effects of different materials on the visible photocatalytic degradation of the floxacin were investigated. Furthermore, the photocatalytic mechanism of enrofloxacin and ofloxacin was revealed by the use of three trappers (▪O2-, h+, and ▪OH), demonstrating that the role of ▪O2- promoted the degradation effect of the materials under photocatalysis.

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the efficacy of metastatic lesion radiotherapy (MLRT) in patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (mNPC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with mNPC from three institutions were included in this study. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to ensure comparability between patient groups. Overall survival (OS) rates were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. Prognostic factors were identified using univariate and multivariate Cox hazard analyses. Subgroup analyses were conducted to assess the effects of MLRT on specific patient populations. RESULTS: We analyzed data from 1157 patients with mNPC. Patients who received MLRT had significantly better OS than those who did not, both in the original (28 vs. 21 months) and PSM cohorts (26 vs. 23 months). MLRT was identified as an independent favorable predictor of OS in multivariate analyses, with hazard ratios of 0.67. The subgroup analysis results indicated that radiotherapy effectively treated liver, lung, and bone metastatic lesions, particularly in patients with a limited tumor burden. Higher total radiation doses of MLRT (biologically effective dose (BED) ≥ 56 Gy) were associated with improved OS, while neither radiation technique nor dose fractionation independently influenced prognosis. CONCLUSIONS: MLRT offers survival advantages to patients diagnosed with mNPC. Patients with limited metastatic burden derive the most benefit from MLRT, and the recommended regimen for MLRT is a minimum BED of 56 Gy for optimal outcomes.

ZnTe colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) have shown promise for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and displays, because they are free from toxic heavy metals (Cd). However, so far, their low photoluminescence (PL) efficiency (∼30%) has hindered their applications. Herein, we devised a novel structure of ZnTe NCs with the configuration of ZnSe (core)/ZnTe (spherical quantum well, SQW)/ZnSe (shell). The inner layer ZnTe was grown at the surface of ZnSe core with avoiding using highly active and high-risk Zn sources. Due to the formation of coherently strained heterostructure which reduced the lattice mismatch, and the thermodynamic growth of ZnTe, the surface or interface defects were suppressed. A high PL efficiency of >60% was obtained for the green light-emitting ZnSe/ZnTe/ZnSe SQWs after ZnS outer layer passivation, which is the highest value for colloidal ZnTe-based NCs. This work paves the way for the development of novel semiconductor NCs for luminescent and display applications.

PURPOSE: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of various treatment approaches in stage T4b esophageal cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results databases, covering patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer between 2000 and 2020. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to assess cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) across different treatment patterns. RESULTS: The study included 482 patients: 222 (46.1%) received chemoradiotherapy, 58 (12.0%) underwent radiotherapy alone, 37 (7.7%) received chemotherapy alone, 50 (10.4%) underwent surgery, and 115 (23.8%) received no treatment. Median CSS were 12, 4, 6, 18, and 1 month for chemoradiotherapy, radiotherapy alone, chemotherapy alone, surgery, and non-treatment groups. Median OS for these groups were 11, 3, 6, 17, and 1 month, respectively. Multivariable proportional hazard regression analysis revealed that patients who underwent surgery experienced significantly improved CSS (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.42, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.24-0.72; P = 0.002) and OS (HR = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.28-0.74; P = 0.002) compared to those receiving chemoradiotherapy after propensity score matching. CONCLUSIONS: Esophagectomy, with or without radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy, results in better survival outcomes than chemoradiotherapy in patients with stage T4b esophageal cancer.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-involved photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) hold great promise for tumor treatment. However, hypoxia, insufficient H2O2, and overexpressed glutathione (GSH) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) hinder ROS generation significantly. Herein, we reported CaO2@Cu-TCPP/CUR with O2/H2O2/Ca2+ self-supply and GSH depletion for enhanced PDT/CDT and Ca2+ overload synergistic therapy. CaO2 nanospheres were first prepared and used as templates for guiding the coordination between the carboxyl of tetra-(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine (TCPP) and Cu2+ ions as hollow CaO2@Cu-TCPP, which facilitated GSH-activated TCPP-based PDT and Cu+-mediated CDT. The hollow structure was then loaded with curcumin (CUR) to form CaO2@Cu-TCPP/CUR composites. Cu-TCPP prevented degradation of CaO2, while Cu2+ ions reacted with GSH to deplete GSH, produce Cu+ ions, and release TCPP, CaO2, and CUR. CaO2 reacted with H2O to generate O2, H2O2, and Ca2+ to achieve O2/H2O2/Ca2+ self-supply for TCPP-based PDT, Cu+-mediated CDT, and CUR-enhanced Ca2+ overload therapy. Thus, this multilevel ROS amplifier enhances synergistic therapy with fewer side effects and drug resistance.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) versus CCRT alone in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Materials and methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients diagnosed with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who received either CCRT alone or CCRT combined with ICIs from April 2019 to February 2023. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Results: A total of 101 patients were enrolled, with 58 undergoing CCRT alone and 43 receiving CCRT+ICI. The CCRT+ICI group demonstrated a higher complete response rate compared to the CCRT alone group (11.6% vs. 1.7%, P = 0.037). However, no significant difference was observed in 1-year PFS (58.9% vs. 55.2%; hazard ratio [HR] = 1.26, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.70-2.26; P = 0.445) or 1-year OS (70.8% vs. 75.9%; HR = 1.21, 95% CI: 0.58-2.53; P = 0.613) between CCRT+ICI and CCRT alone groups. The CCRT alone group experienced a higher incidence of leukopenia of any grade (93.1% vs. 76.7%, P = 0.039) but a lower incidence of pneumonitis of any grade (36.2% vs. 65.1%, P = 0.008). Conclusion: CCRT+ICI may not lead to improved survival outcomes compared to CCRT alone in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. These findings indicate the need for further investigation into this treatment approach.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementia. The early change of gut microbiota is a potential biomarker for preclinical AD patients. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to explore changes in gut microbiota characteristics in preclinical AD patients, including those with Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD) and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and detect the correlation between gut microbiota characteristics and cognitive performances. METHODS: This study included 117 participants [33 MCI, 54 SCD, and 30 Healthy Controls (HC)]. We collected fresh fecal samples and blood samples from all participants and evaluated their cognitive performance. We analyzed the diversity and structure of gut microbiota in all participants through qPCR, screened characteristic microbial species through machine learning models, and explored the correlations between these species and cognitive performances and serum indicators. RESULTS: Compared to the healthy controls, the structure of gut microbiota in MCI and SCD patients was significantly different. The three characteristic microorganisms, including Bacteroides ovatus, Bifidobacterium adolescentis, and Roseburia inulinivorans, were screened based on the best classification model (HC and MCI) having intergroup differences. Bifidobacterium adolescentis is associated with better performance in multiple cognitive scores and several serum indicators. Roseburia inulinivorans showed negative correlations with the scores of the Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ). CONCLUSION: The gut microbiota in patients with preclinical AD has significantly changed in terms of composition and richness. Correlations have been discovered between changes in characteristic species and cognitive performances. Gut microbiota alterations have shown promise in affecting AD pathology and cognitive deficit.

To assess adjuvant treatment patterns on survival in patients with pT3N0M0 esophageal cancer who underwent esophagectomy without neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Stage pT3N0M0 esophageal cancer patients were assessed between 2000 and 2020 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results databases. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to compare overall survival (OS) among various treatment patterns. We identified 445 patients: 252 (56.6%) received surgery alone, 85 (19.1%) received surgery+chemoradiotherapy, 80 (18.0%) underwent surgery+chemotherapy, and 28 (6.3%) received surgery+ radiotherapy. For squamous cell carcinoma, surgery+chemoradiotherapy ([hazard ratio] HR = 1.04, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.65-1.66; P = 0.873), surgery+chemotherapy (HR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.42-1.22; P = 0.221), and surgery+radiotherapy (HR = 1.33, 95% CI: 0.74-2.39; P = 0.341) had similar OS compared to surgery alone. For adenocarcinoma, surgery+chemoradiotherapy (HR = 0.51, 95% CI: 0.36-0.74; P < 0.001) and surgery+chemotherapy (HR = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.42-0.87; P = 0.006) had better OS compared to surgery alone. However, surgery+radiotherapy had a comparable OS (HR = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.44-1.49; P = 0.495).Adjuvant treatments did not improve survival in stage pT3N0M0 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients. In contrast, adjuvant chemoradiotherapy and chemotherapy were recommended for esophageal adenocarcinoma patients.

Dietary protein supplementation has emerged as a promising strategy in combating sarcopenia. Furthermore, searching for alternatives of animal proteins has been a hot topic. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of zein peptides on C2C12 myoblasts and explore their potential molecular mechanisms. The proliferative, cell cycle, and anti-apoptotic activities of zein peptides were evaluated. Peptidomics analysis and transcriptome sequencing were employed to explore the structure-activity relationship and underlying molecular mechanisms. The results indicated that zein peptides (0.05-0.2 mg/mL) exerted a significant proliferation-promoting impact on C2C12 cells, via increasing cell viability by 33.37 to 42.39%. Furthermore, zein peptides significantly increased S phase proportion and decreased the apoptosis rate from 34.08% (model group) to 28.96% in C2C12 cells. In addition, zein peptides exhibited a pronounced anti-apoptotic effect on C2C12 cells. Zein peptides are abundant in branch-chain amino acids, especially leucine. Transcriptomics analysis revealed that zein peptides can promote proliferation, accelerate cell cycle, and improve protein synthesis of muscle cells through mTORC1 and mTORC2 signaling pathways.

Two-visit root canal treatment for children reduce the time of visits and the by-chair time in comparison with the three-visit root canal treatment. However, it is not clear whether two-visit root canal treatment increase the risk of complications. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effects and post-operative pain intensity after the root canal treatment between two-visit and three-visit groups in primary molars from children.106 patients were screened for eligibility, of which 74 went back to the preservation visit. Therefore, 74 primary molars from 74 children that diagnosed with chronic pulp and periodontal tissue diseases in the clinics of pediatric dentistry were retrospectively analyzed, in which 37 in the two-visit group and 37 in the three-visit group. The total effective rate and postoperative pain intensity were assessed after treatment and all statistical data were carried out with SPSS software.The average age of children in the two-visit and three-visit groups was 6.4 and 7.0, respectively, with no significant difference (p = 0.056). The two-visit group consisted of 59.5% male and 40.5% female children, while the three-visit group consisted of 56.8% male children and 43.2% female children (p = 0.813). Two months after treatment, the total effective rate in the three-visit group was 97.30%, a little higher than that in the two-visit group (94.59%), but with no significant difference (p = 0.201). Besides, there was also no significant difference in pain intensity between the two-visit and three-visit groups (p = 0.692). Therefore, there were no significant difference of total effective rate and pain intensity in root canal treatment between the two-visit and three-visit groups in primary molars from children.

2D materials, such as graphene, MXenes (metal carbides and nitrides), graphdiyne (GDY), layered double hydroxides, and black phosphorus, are widely used as electrocatalyst supports for alcohol oxidation reactions (AORs) owing to their large surface area and unique 2D charge transport channels. Furthermore, the development of highly efficient electrocatalysts for AORs via tuning the structure of 2D support materials has recently become a hot area. This article provides a critical review on modification strategies to develop 2D material-based electrocatalysts for AOR. First, the principles and influencing factors of electrocatalytic oxidation of alcohols (such as methanol and ethanol) are introduced. Second, surface molecular functionalization, heteroatom doping, and composite hybridization are deeply discussed as the modification strategies to improve 2D material catalyst supports for AORs. Finally, the challenges and perspectives of 2D material-based electrocatalysts for AORs are outlined. This review will promote further efforts in the development of electrocatalysts for AORs.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a catastrophic condition with few therapeutic options. Astaxanthin (AST), a natural nutritional supplement with powerful antioxidant activities, is finding its new application in the field of SCI. Here, we performed a systematic review to assess the neurological roles of AST in rats following SCI, and assessed the potential for clinical translation. Searches were conducted on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, the Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang data, Vip Journal Integration Platform, and SinoMed databases. Animal studies that evaluated the neurobiological roles of AST in a rat model of SCI were included. A total of 10 articles were included; most of them had moderate-to-high methodological quality, while the overall quality of evidence was not high. Generally, the meta-analyses revealed that rats treated with AST exhibited an increased Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) score compared with the controls, and the weighted mean differences (WMDs) between those two groups showed a gradual upward trend from days 7 (six studies, n = 88, WMD = 2.85, 95% CI = 1.83 to 3.87, p < 0.00001) to days 28 (five studies, n = 76, WMD = 6.42, 95% CI = 4.29 to 8.55, p < 0.00001) after treatment. AST treatment was associated with improved outcomes in spared white matter area, motor neuron survival, and SOD and MDA levels. Subgroup analyses indicated there were differences in the improvement of BBB scores between distinct injury types. The trial sequential analysis then firmly proved that AST could facilitate the locomotor recovery of rats following SCI. In addition, this review suggested that AST could modulate oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, neuron loss, and autophagy via multiple signaling pathways for treating SCI. Collectively, with a protective effect, good safety, and a systematic action mechanism, AST is a promising candidate for future clinical trials of SCI. Nonetheless, in light of the limitations of the included studies, larger and high-quality studies are needed for verification.

BACKGROUND: In patients with nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC), radiation-induced temporal lobe injury (TLI) is the most dreaded late-stage complication following radiation therapy (RT). We currently lack a definitive algorithmic administration for this entity. In the meantime, the pathogenesis of TLI and the mechanism-based interventions to prevent or treat this adverse effect remain unknown. To better answer the aforementioned questions, it is necessary to comprehend the intellectual foundations and prospective trends of this field through bibliometric analysis. METHODS: Articles were gathered from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database between 2000 and 2022. CiteSpace was utilized to create a country/institutional co-authorship network, perform dual-map analysis, and find keywords with citation bursts. VOSviewer was used to build networks based on author co-authorship, journal citation, co-citation analysis of authors, references, and journals, and keyword co-occurrence. RESULTS: A total of 140 articles and reviews were included in the final analysis. The number of publications has steadily increased with some fluctuations over the years. The country and institution contributing most to this field are the China and Sun Yat-Sen University. Han Fei was the most prolific author, while Lee Awm was the most frequently cited. The analysis of co-occurrence revealed three clusters, including: "radiation-induced injury or necrosis in NPC," "clinical studies on chemotherapy/radiotherapy complications and survival in recurrent NPC," and "IMRT/chemotherapy outcomes and toxicities in head and neck cancer"). Most recent keyword bursts were "volume," "temporal lobe injury," "toxicities," "model," "survival," "intensity modulated radiotherapy," "induced brain injury," "head and neck cancer," and "temporal lobe." CONCLUSION: This study provides some insights of the major areas of interest in the field of radiation-induced TLI in patients with NPC by bibliometric analyses. This study assists scholars in locating collaborators and significant literature in this field, provides guidance for publishing journals, and identifies research hotspots. This analysis acknowledges significant contributions to the discipline and encourages the scientific community to conduct additional research.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether intervention by clinical pharmacists can improve blood glucose and lipid levels in diabetic patients with complex medical conditions. Methods: The retrospective database included 138 patients with diabetes who had presented with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) between January 2019 and October 2021. Blood glucose and lipid levels were measured within 12 weeks and 78 weeks of follow-up. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance the confounding effects of patients' characteristics. Results: A total of 138 eligible patients were assigned to either the intervention group (n = 47) or the usual care group (n = 91). After the intervention, there were significant improvements in blood glucose (glycosylated hemoglobin-HbA1C % from 9.0 to 8.3; fasting blood glucose-FBG mmol/L from 11.3 to 7.1; postprandial blood glucose-PBG mmol/L from 17.0 to 12.1; p < 0.001) and lipid levels (total cholesterol-TC from 4.9 to 3.5, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol-LDL-C from 3.0 to 1.8, p < 0.001, mmol/L) in both follow-up periods. The blood glucose effects were most pronounced in the PBG control rate (76.9% vs 54.0%) before PSM, while HbA1C% and PBG control rate after PSM were significantly higher in the intervention group (HbA1C% rate: 65.6% vs 38.5%; PBG rate: 79.2% vs 45.8%; p < 0.05, intervention vs non-intervention). Subgroup analysis further confirmed the improvement of blood glucose and lipid mainly in patients with higher baseline FBG (≧10mmol/L) and moderate follow-up duration (4-12 weeks). Conclusion: The intervention of clinical pharmacists in multidisciplinary team can significantly improve blood glucose and lipid levels in complex type 2 diabetic patients, especially those with high baseline FBG and moderate follow-up durations.

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most disabling neurological conditions, afflicting thousands of human beings. Edaravone, a well-known reactive oxygen species scavenger, is expanding its new scope in field of SCI. The objective of this systematic review is to determine the neuroprotective effects and discuss the underlying mechanism of edaravone in management of SCI. METHODS: The systematic review will include the controlled studies evaluating the neurological roles of edaravone on experiment rat models following SCI. The primary outcome will be the 21-point Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan locomotor rating scale. The secondary outcomes will include the preservation of white matter areas and malondialdehyde levels. Two researchers will independently search PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus and Cochrane Library from their inception date. Following study selection, data extraction, and assessment of methodological quality in included studies using the SYRCLE's RoB tool, data from eligible studies will be pooled and analyzed using random-effects models with RevMan 5.3 software. In case of sufficient data, subgroup analyses with respect to species, age, gender, injury characteristics, or administration details will be carried out to explore the factors modifying efficacy of edaravone. For exploring the appropriate dose of edaravone, a network meta-analysis approach will be conducted based on the Bayesian method. Importantly, the proposed mechanisms and changes of related molecules will be also extracted from included studies for comprehensively investigating the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of edaravone. DISCUSSION: In this study, we aim to quantitatively analyze the role of edaravone in locomotor recovery and tissue damage in SCI rat model. The efficacy of edaravone in distinct scenarios will be investigated by subgroup analyses, and we expect to predict the candidate dose that offers a superior treatment effect using network meta-analyses. Moreover, a comprehensive framework regarding the neuroprotective mechanisms behind edaravone will be constructed via a combination of systematic and traditional review. This study will bring implications for future preclinical studies and clinical applications of SCI. Nonetheless, in light of the anticipated limitations in animal experimental design and methodological quality, the results in this review should be interpreted with caution.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) poses a significant threat to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), leading to a high risk of heart failure (HF) and cardiovascular death. Growing evidence has unveiled the potential of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors to improve cardiovascular outcomes in patients with CVD regardless of diabetes, but there is limited evidence in AMI patients. Furthermore, it is controversial whether the effects can be ascribed to the amelioration of left ventricular (LV) function, which further complicates the understanding of their underlying mechanism. Methods: This study is a prospective, phase IV, open-label, parallel group, single-center trial conducted in a large tertiary teaching hospital in China. A total of 120 patients with AMI and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) will be included. Those who received SGLT2 inhibitors are considered as the experimental group, and those taking other antidiabetic agents are considered as the control group. The primary outcome is change in LV end-systolic volume index (LVESVi) measured by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging from baseline during 1-year follow-up period. Secondary outcomes include other LV parameters such as LV mass, LV volume, and LV ejection fraction (EF); quality of life and functional capacity such as Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire overall summary score (KCCQ-OS) and EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D); biomarkers associated with diagnostic parameters of AMI and possible mechanisms on cardiovascular protection, such as creatine kinase, troponin T (TnT) level, troponin I (TnI) level, soluble suppression of tumorigenicity-2 (sST2), galectin-3 (Gal-3), fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), and microRNA (miRNA) level. Discussion: This study aims to investigate whether SGLT2 inhibitors could improve LV function by measuring CMR, quality of life, and functional capacity in patients with AMI in real-world settings, providing evidence on the underlying mechanism of SGLT2 inhibitors on cardioprotection. RP-3 jet fuel is the main fuel for aircraft in China, and it is also a source of fire. C6F12O (Novec 1230) has an outstanding fire extinguishing performance and minimal environmental impacts. In this study, the application of C6F12O in the inhibition of RP-3 jet fuel fire was considered, and the ignition delay time (IDT) of C6F12O/air and RP-3/air adding C6F12O was measured using a shock tube. In addition, the results showed that the IDT of C6F12O was 500-900 µs and less sensitive to temperature compared with those of common fuels in the range of 1150-1958 K, and the influence of C6F12O on the IDT of RP-3 jet fuel was influenced by many factors including temperature, the concentration of C6F12O, and the stoichiometric ratio of RP-3 jet fuel. According to the experimental results, the mechanism of C6F12O was verified and modified, and then integrated with the mechanisms of RP-3 jet fuel; the integrated mechanism can well predict the IDT of C6F12O/air and RP-3/air adding C6F12O. This work provides a good basis for the chemical kinetics analysis of the inhibition of RP-3 jet fuel combustion by C6F12O.

Background: Disorders of consciousness (DoC) commonly occurs secondary to severe neurological injury. A considerable volume of research has explored the effectiveness of different non-invasive neuromodulation therapy (NINT) on awaking therapy, however, equivocal findings were reported. Objective: The aim of this study was to systematically investigate the effectiveness on level of consciousness of different NINT in patients with DoC and explore optimal stimulation parameters and characteristics of patients. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane central register of controlled trials were searched from their inception through November 2022. Randomized controlled trials, that investigated effectiveness on level of consciousness of NINT, were included. Mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was evaluated as effect size. Risk of bias was assessed with revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Results: A total of 15 randomized controlled trials with 345 patients were included. Meta-analysis was performed on 13 out of 15 reviewed trials indicating that transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and median nerve stimulation (MNS) all had a small but significant effect (MD 0.71 [95% CI 0.28, 1.13]; MD 1.51 [95% CI 0.87, 2.15]; MD 3.20 [95%CI: 1.45, 4.96]) on level of consciousness. Subgroup analyses revealed that patients with traumatic brain injury, higher initial level of consciousness (minimally conscious state), and shorter duration of prolonged DoC (subacute phase of DoC) reserved better awaking ability after tDCS. TMS also showed encouraging awaking effect when stimulation was applied on dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in patients with prolonged DoC. Conclusion: tDCS and TMS appear to be effective interventions for improving level of consciousness of patients with prolonged DoC. Subgroup analyses identified the key parameters required to enhance the effects of tDCS and TMS on level of consciousness. Etiology of DoC, initial level of consciousness, and phase of DoC could act as significant characteristics of patients related to the effectiveness of tDCS. Stimulation site could act as significant stimulation parameter related to the effectiveness of TMS. There is insufficient evidence to support the use of MNS in clinical practice to improve level of consciousness in patients with coma.
