Stress has been linked to the development of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and various methods have been explored to model IBS in combination with other stimuli. However, it remains unclear whether stress alone can induce IBS in animals. This study aimed to investigate the impact of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) on gastrointestinal sensation and function in mice and assess the potential of CUMS as a modeling approach for IBS. To evaluate the mice's behavior, we conducted open field test, sucrose preference test and weighed the mice, revealing that CUMS indeed induced anxiety and depression in the mice and caused weight loss. Further analyses, including fecal analysis, a total gastrointestinal transport test, and a colon propulsion test, demonstrated that CUMS led to abnormal defecation and disruptions in gastrointestinal motility in the mice. Additionally, the abdominal withdrawal reflex test indicated an increase in visceral sensitivity in CUMS-exposed mice. Histological examination using hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed no significant histological alterations in the colons of CUMS-exposed mice, but it did show a minor degree of inflammatory cell infiltration. In summary, the findings suggest that CUMS can replicate IBS-like symptoms in mice, offering a novel top-down approach to modeling IBS.

AIM: To construct a health empowerment framework for the Chinese older people with chronic conditions. DESIGN: A Strussian grounded theory design was selected to generate the theoretical framework. METHODS: Data were collected from 53 community-dwelling older people with chronic conditions in China between November 2017 and August 2019, via semi-structured interviews and with participating observation. The constant comparative method identified the key categories. RESULTS: 'Responsibility endowing power', the health empowerment core theme, was defined as initiating, performing and realizing responsibility towards health through the interaction between the self, family and society. The framework enriches the meaning of health empowerment, changing older people's nursing practice.

BACKGROUND: Myopericytoma is a benign tumor that typically occurs within subcutaneous tissue and most often involves the distal extremities, followed by the proximal extremities, neck, thoracic vertebrae and oral cavity. Complete resection is often curative. Malignant myopericytoma is extremely rare and has a poor prognosis. Here, we report for the first time a case of malignant myopericytoma originating from the colon. CASE SUMMARY: A 69-year-old male was admitted to our hospital with right upper quadrant pain for five days. Imaging suggested a liver mass with hemorrhage. A malignant hepatic tumor was the initial diagnosis. Surgical resection was performed after a complete preoperative work up. Initial postoperative pathology suggested that the mass was a malignant myoblastoma unrelated to the liver. Four months after the first surgery, an enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a recurrence of the tumor. The diagnosis of malignant myopericytoma derived from the colon was confirmed on histopathological examination of the specimen from the second surgery. The patient did not return to the hospital regularly for surveillance. The first postoperative abdominal CT examination six months after the second surgery demonstrated multiple liver metastases. Survival time between the diagnosis of the tumor to death was approximately one year. CONCLUSION: Malignant myopericytoma is a rare cancer. Preoperative diagnosis may be difficult. Due to a lack of treatment options, prognosis is poor.

BACKGROUND: Due to the specificity of Chinese food types, gastric phytobezoars are relatively common in China. Most gastric phytobezoars can be removed by chemical enzyme lysis and endoscopic fragmentation, but the treatment for large phytobezoars is limited, and surgical procedures are often required for this difficult problem. CASE SUMMARY: For giant gastric phytobezoars that cannot be dissolved and fragmented by conventional treatment, we have invented a new lithotripsy technique (tennis ball cord combined with endoscopy) for these phytobezoars. This non-interventional treatment was successful in a patient whose abdominal pain was immediately relieved, and the gastroscope-induced ulcer healed well 3 d after lithotripsy. The patient was followed-up for 8 wk postoperatively and showed no discomfort such as abdominal pain. CONCLUSION: The combination of tennis ball cord and endoscopy for the treatment of giant gastric phytobezoars is feasible and showed high safety and effectiveness, and can be widely applied in hospitals of all sizes.

As the substitutes of polybrominated diphenyl ethers, organophosphate esters (OPEs) with high concentrations have accumulated in the estuaries, bays, and harbors. However, limited information is available about the OPEs in the estuary organism categories, especially under the multiple industrial pressure. This study investigated the occurrence, bioaccumulation and human consumption implication in wild marine organisms from the Yellow River Estuary, where located many petroleum and chemical manufacturing industries. This study found that concentrations of Σ13OPEs ranged from 547 ng/L to 1164 ng/L in seawater (median: 802 ng/L), from 384 to 1366 ng/g dw in the sediment (median: 601 ng/g dw), and from 419 to 959 ng/g dw (median: 560 ng/g dw) in the marine organisms. The congener compositions in the organisms were dominated by alkyl-OPEs (80.7 %), followed by halogenated-OPEs (18.8 %) and aryl-OPEs (0.5 %). Based on the principal component analysis, petrochemical pollution, and industrial wastewater discharge were distinguished as the main plausible sources of OPEs to the YRE ecosystem. Most OPEs had potential or strong bioaccumulation capacity on the organisms, with a positive correlation between log BAF (Bioaccumulation Factor) and log Kow of OPEs. The highest estimated daily intake value of OPEs was tri-n-propyl phosphate, exceeding 300 ng/kg·bw/day via consuming fish. The highest hazard quotients from OPEs ranged from 0.001 to 0.1, indicating a low risk to human health by consuming marine organisms in the YRE. As the consumption of OPEs increases year by year, the risks of OPEs still cannot be ignored.

Background: Apathy, characterized by diminished goal-directed behaviors, frequently occurs in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The dopamine-releasing neurons of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) have been closely related to this behavioral disruption and project widely to the corticolimbic areas, yet their functional and structural connectivity in regard to other brain regions remain unknown in patients with PD and pure apathy (PD-PA). This study thus aimed to characterize the alterations of functional connectivity (FC) of the VTA and white matter structural connectivity in PD-PA. Methods: In this study, 29 patients with PD-PA, 37 with PD but not pure apathy (PD-NPA), and 28 matched healthy controls (HCs) underwent T1-weighted, resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging, and diffusion tensor imaging scans. Patients of this cross-sectional retrospective study were consecutively recruited from The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University between April 2017 and October 2021. Meanwhile, HCs were consecutively recruited from the local community and the Health Examination Center of our hospital. An analysis of covariance and a general linear model were respectively conducted to investigate the functional and structural connectivity among three groups. The tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) approach was used to investigate the white matter structural connectivity. Results: Patients with PD-PA showed reduced FC of the VTA with the left medial superior frontal gyrus (SFGmed) when compared to the patients with PD-NPA [t=-3.67; voxel-level P<0.001; cluster-level family-wise error-corrected P (PFWE)<0.05]. Relative to the HCs, patients with PD-PA demonstrated reduced FC of the VTA with the left SFGmed (t=-4.98; voxel-level P<0.001; cluster-level PFWE<0.05), right orbital superior frontal gyrus (SFGorb) (t=-5.08; voxel-level P<0.001; cluster-level PFWE<0.05), and right middle frontal gyrus (MFG) (t=-5.08; voxel-level P<0.001; cluster-level PFWE<0.05). Moreover, the reductions in VTA FC with the left SFGmed were associated with severe apathy symptoms in patients with PD-PA (r=-0.600; P=0.003). However, a TBSS approach did not reveal any significant differences in fiber tracts between the three groups. Conclusions: This study identified reduced FC within the mesocortical network (VTA-SFGmed) of patients with PD-PA. These findings may provide valuable information for administering neuromodulation therapies in the alleviation of apathy symptoms in those with PD.

Background: The information between multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is complementary. Combining multiple modalities for brain tumor image segmentation can improve segmentation accuracy, which has great significance for disease diagnosis and treatment. However, different degrees of missing modality data often occur in clinical practice, which may lead to serious performance degradation or even failure of brain tumor segmentation methods relying on full-modality sequences to complete the segmentation task. To solve the above problems, this study aimed to design a new deep learning network for incomplete multimodal brain tumor segmentation. Methods: We propose a novel cross-modal attention fusion-based deep neural network (CMAF-Net) for incomplete multimodal brain tumor segmentation, which is based on a three-dimensional (3D) U-Net architecture with encoding and decoding structure, a 3D Swin block, and a cross-modal attention fusion (CMAF) block. A convolutional encoder is initially used to extract the specific features from different modalities, and an effective 3D Swin block is constructed to model the long-range dependencies to obtain richer information for brain tumor segmentation. Then, a cross-attention based CMAF module is proposed that can deal with different missing modality situations by fusing features between different modalities to learn the shared representations of the tumor regions. Finally, the fused latent representation is decoded to obtain the final segmentation result. Additionally, channel attention module (CAM) and spatial attention module (SAM) are incorporated into the network to further improve the robustness of the model; the CAM to help focus on important feature channels, and the SAM to learn the importance of different spatial regions. Results: Evaluation experiments on the widely-used BraTS 2018 and BraTS 2020 datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed CMAF-Net which achieved average Dice scores of 87.9%, 81.8%, and 64.3%, as well as Hausdorff distances of 4.21, 5.35, and 4.02 for whole tumor, tumor core, and enhancing tumor on the BraTS 2020 dataset, respectively, outperforming several state-of-the-art segmentation methods in missing modalities situations. Conclusions: The experimental results show that the proposed CMAF-Net can achieve accurate brain tumor segmentation in the case of missing modalities with promising application potential.

BACKGROUND: Aedes albopictus is an important vector of chikungunya, dengue, yellow fever and Zika viruses. Insecticides are often the most effective tools for rapidly decreasing the density of vector populations, especially during arbovirus disease outbreaks. However, the intense use of insecticides, particularly pyrethroids, has led to the selection of resistant mosquito populations worldwide. Mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) gene are one of the main drivers of insecticide resistance in Ae. albopictus and are also known as "knockdown resistance" (kdr) mutations. Knowledge about genetic mutations associated with insecticide resistance is a prerequisite for developing techniques for rapid resistance diagnosis. Here, we report studies on the origin and dispersion of kdr haplotypes in samples of Ae. albopictus from the Yangtze River Basin, China; METHODS: Here, we report the results of PCR genotyping of kdr mutations in 541 Ae. albopictus specimens from 22 sampling sites in 7 provinces and municipalities in the Yangtze River Basin. Partial DNA sequences of domain II and domain III of the VGSC gene were amplified. These DNA fragments were subsequently sequenced to discover the possible genetic mutations mediating knockdown resistance (kdr) to pyrethroids. The frequency and distribution of kdr mutations were assessed in 22 Ae. albopictus populations. Phylogenetic relationships among the haplotypes were used to infer whether the kdr mutations had a single or multiple origins; RESULTS: The kdr mutation at the 1016 locus had 2 alleles with 3 genotypes: V/V (73.38%), V/G (26.43%) and G/G (0.18%). The 1016G homozygous mutation was found in only one case in the CQSL strain in Chongqing, and no 1016G mutations were detected in the SHJD (Shanghai), NJDX (Jiangsu) or HBQN (Hubei) strains. A total of 1532 locus had two alleles and three genotypes, I/I (88.35%), I/T (8.50%) and T/T (3.14%). A total of 1534 locus had four alleles and six genotypes: F/F (49.35%), F/S (19.96%), F/C (1.48%) and F/L (0.18%); S/S (23.66%); and C/C (5.36%). Haplotypes with the F1534C mutation were found only in Ae. albopictus populations in Chongqing and Hubei, and C1534C was found only in three geographic strains in Chongqing. Haplotypes with the 1534S mutation were found only in Ae. albopictus populations in Sichuan and Shanghai. F1534L was found only in HBYC. The Ae. albopictus populations in Shanghai were more genetically differentiated from those in the other regions (except Sichuan), and the genetic differentiation between the populations in Chongqing and those in the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River (Huber, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, and Anhui) was lower. Shanghai and Sichuan displayed low haplotype diversity and low nucleotide diversity. Phylogenetic analysis and sequence comparison revealed that the 1016 locus was divided into three branches, with the Clade A and Clade B branches bearing the 1016 mutation occurring mostly in Jiangsu and the Clade C branch bearing the 1016 mutation occurring mostly in Chongqing, suggesting at least two origins for 1016G. IIIS6 phylogenetic analysis and sequence comparison revealed that F1534S, F1534C and I1532T can be divided into two branches, indicating that IIIS6 has two origins; CONCLUSIONS: Combined with the distribution of kdr mutations and the analysis of population genetics, we infer that besides the local selection of pyrethroid resistance mutations, dispersal and colonization of Ae. albopictus from other regions may explain why kdr mutations are present in some Ae. albopictus populations in the Yangtze River Basin.

Through an activation reaction sintering method, porous (Mo2/3Y1/3)2AlC ceramics were prepared by Mo, Y, Al, and graphite powders as raw materials. The phase composition, microstructure, element distribution, and pore structure characteristics were comprehensively studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Archimedes method, and bubble point method. A detailed investigation was conducted on the influence of sintering temperature on the phase composition. Possible routes of phase transition and pore formation mechanisms during the sintering process were provided. The experimental results reveal that at 650-850 °C, transition metals react with aluminum, forming aluminum-containing intermetallics and a small amount of carbides. At 850-1250 °C, transition metals collaborate with graphite, producing transition metal carbides. Then, at 1250-1450 °C, these aluminum intermetallics interact with transition metal carbides and remaining unreacted Y, Al, and C, yielding the final product (Mo2/3Y1/3) 2AlC. Simultaneously, the pore structure alters correspondingly with the solid-phase reaction at different reaction temperatures.

Gliomas, the predominant form of brain cancer, comprise diverse malignant subtypes with limited curative therapies available. The insufficient understanding of their molecular diversity and evolutionary processes hinders the advancement of new treatments. Technical complexities associated with formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) clinical samples hinder molecular-level analyses of gliomas. Current single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) platforms are inadequate for large-scale clinical applications. In this study, automated snRandom-seq is developed, a high-throughput single-nucleus total RNA sequencing platform optimized for archival FFPE samples. This platform integrates automated single-nucleus isolation and droplet barcoding systems with the random primer-based scRNA-seq chemistry, accommodating a broad spectrum of sample types. The automated snRandom-seq is applied to analyze 116 492 single nuclei from 17 FFPE samples of various glioma subtypes, including rare clinical samples and matched primary-recurrent glioblastomas (GBMs). The study provides comprehensive insights into the molecular characteristics of gliomas at the single-cell level. Abundant non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) with distinct expression profiles across different glioma clusters and uncovered promising recurrence-related targets and pathways in primary-recurrent GBMs are identified. These findings establish automated snRandom-seq as a robust tool for scRNA-seq of FFPE samples, enabling exploration of molecular diversities and tumor evolution. This platform holds significant implications for large-scale integrative and retrospective clinical research.

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is a syndrome in which local circulation is affected due to increased pressure within the compartment. We previously found in patients with calf fractures, the pressure of fascial compartment could be sharply reduced upon the appearance of tension blisters. Deep fascia, as the important structure for compartment, might play key role in this process. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine the differences in gene profile in deep fascia tissue in fracture patients of the calf with or without tension blisters, and to explore the role of fascia in pressure improvement in ACS. Patients with lower leg fracture were enrolled and divided into control group (CON group, n = 10) without tension blister, and tension blister group (TB group, n = 10). Deep fascia tissues were collected and LC-MS/MS label-free quantitative proteomics were performed. Genes involved in fascia structure and fibroblast function were further validated by Western blot. The differentially expressed proteins were found to be mainly enriched in pathways related to protein synthesis and processing, stress fiber assembly, cell-substrate adhesion, leukocyte mediated cytotoxicity, and cellular response to stress. Compared with the CON group, the expression of Peroxidasin homolog (PXDN), which promotes the function of fibroblasts, and Leukocyte differentiation antigen 74 (CD74), which enhances the proliferation of fibroblasts, were significantly upregulated (p all <0.05), while the expression of Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9), which is involved in collagen hydrolysis, and Neutrophil elastase (ELANE), which is involved in elastin hydrolysis, were significantly reduced in the TB group (p all <0.05), indicating fascia tissue underwent microenvironment reconstruction during ACS. In summary, the ACS accompanied by blisters is associated with the enhanced function and proliferation of fibroblasts and reduced hydrolysis of collagen and elastin. The adaptive alterations in the stiffness and elasticity of the deep fascia might be crucial for pressure release of ACS.

Small secreted peptides (SSPs), serving as signaling molecules for intercellular communication, play significant regulatory roles in plant growth, development, pathogen immunity, and responses to abiotic stress. Despite several SSPs, such as PIP, PSK, and PSY having been identified to participate in plant immunity, the majority of SSPs remain understudied, necessitating the exploration and identification of SSPs regulating plant immunity from vast genomic resources. Here we systematically characterized 756 putative SSPs across the genome of Nicotiana tabacum. 173 SSPs were further annotated as established SSPs, such as nsLTP, CAPE, and CEP. Furthermore, we detected the expression of 484 putative SSP genes in five tissues, with 83 SSPs displaying tissue-specific expression. Transcriptomic analysis of tobacco roots under plant defense hormones revealed that 46 SSPs exhibited specific responsiveness to salicylic acid (SA), and such response was antagonistically regulated by methyl jasmonate. It's worth noting that among these 46 SSPs, 16 members belong to nsLTP family, and one of them, NtLTP25, was discovered to enhance tobacco's resistance against Phytophthora nicotianae. Overexpression of NtLTP25 in tobacco enhanced the expression of ICS1, subsequently stimulating the biosynthesis of SA and the expression of NPR1 and pathogenesis-related genes. Concurrently, NtLTP25 overexpression activated genes associated with ROS scavenging, consequently mitigating the accumulation of ROS during the subsequent phases of pathogenesis. These discoveries indicate that these 46 SSPs, especially the 16 nsLTPs, might have a vital role in governing plant immunity that relies on SA signaling. This offers a valuable source for pinpointing SSPs involved in regulating plant immunity.

The rampant exploitation of fossil fuels has led to the significant energy scarcity and environmental disruption, affecting the sound momentum of development and progress of human civilization. To build a closed-loop anthropogenic carbon cycle, development of biofuels employing sustainable biomass feedstocks stands at the forefront of advancing carbon neutrality, yet its widespread adoption is mainly hampered by the high production costs. Montmorillonite, however, has garnered considerable attention serving as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst of ideal economic feasibility for biofuel production, primarily due to its affordability, accessibility, stability, and excellent plasticity. Up to now, nevertheless, it has merely received finite concerns and interests in production of various biofuels using montmorillonite-based catalysts. There is no timely and comprehensive review that addresses this latest relevant progress. This review fills the gap by providing a systematically review and summary in controllable synthesis, performance enhancement, and applications related to different kinds of biofuels including biodiesel, biohydrogenated diesel, levulinate, γ-valerolactone, 5-ethoxymethylfurfural, gaseous biofuels (CO, H2), and cycloalkane, by using montmorillonite catalysts and its modified forms. Particularly, this review critically depicts the design strategies for montmorillonite, illustrates the relevant reaction mechanisms, and assesses their economic viability, realizing sustainable biofuels production via efficient biomass valorization.

Metal phosphides with easy synthesis, controllable morphology, and high capacity are considered as potential anodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the inherent shortcomings of metal phosphating materials, such as conductivity, kinetics, volume strain, etc are not satisfactory, which hinders their large-scale application. Here, a CoP@carbon nanofibers-composite containing rich Co─N─C heterointerface and phosphorus vacancies grown on carbon cloth (CoP1-x@MEC) is synthesized as SIB anode to accomplish extraordinary capacity and ultra-long cycle life. The hybrid composite nanoreactor effectively impregnates defective CoP as active reaction center while offering Co─N─C layer to buffer the volume expansion during charge-discharge process. These vast active interfaces, favored electrolyte infiltration, and a well-structured ion-electron transport network synergistically improve Na+ storage and electrode kinetics. By virtue of these superiorities, CoP1-x@MEC binder-free anode delivers superb SIBs performance including a high areal capacity (2.47 mAh cm-2@0.2 mA cm-2), high rate capability (0.443 mAh cm-2@6 mA cm-2), and long cycling stability (300 cycles without decay), thus holding great promise for inexpensive binder-free anode-based SIBs for practical applications.

The mechanism and function of the expression of Schwann characteristics by nevus cells in the mature zone of the dermis are unknown. Early growth response 3 (EGR3) induces Schwann cell-like differentiation of melanoma cells by simulating the process of nevus maturation, which leads to a strong phenotypic transformation of the cells, including the formation of long protrusions and a decrease in cell motility, proliferation, and melanin production. Meanwhile, EGR3 regulates the levels of myelin protein zero (MPZ) and collagen type I alpha 1 chain (COL1A1) through SRY-box transcription factor 10 (SOX10)-dependent and independent mechanisms, by binding to non-strictly conserved motifs, respectively. Schwann cell-like differentiation demonstrates significant benefits in both in vivo and clinical studies. Finally, a CD86-P2A-EGR3 recombinant mRNA vaccine is developed which leads to tumor control through forced cell differentiation and enhanced immune infiltration. Together, these data support further development of the recombinant mRNA as a treatment for cancer.

To explore the multiparameter precursor characteristics of pre- and post-coal burst. Based on a coal burst of LW 1305 in the Zhaolou Coal Mine, an early warning method combining stress‒strain curve and microseismic multiparameter is proposed. The research results show that coal burst was induced by the intrinsic static high-stress concentration and the strong external impact loading generated by fracturing of the key stratum. The precursors mainly characterize the enhancement trend of the S value, the sudden and sharp increase in the A(t) value, the continuous and abnormal decrease in the b value, the increasing absolute value of Z sharply and larger than 2, the continuous and abnormal decrease in the Qt value, and the dominant frequency moving to the low-frequency band. Essentially, many micro-fissures inside the key stratum initiated, converged and connected to form macro-fractures, which was verified by the attenuation rate of the K value. Considering the time-varying effect of the overlying stratum movement, the curves of the six parameters agree well with those of stress vs. strain, which indicates that it is reasonable to take the observed zone as a whole system to investigate the variation in the multiple parameters and fracturing of the key stratum. The research results can be applied to the monitoring, early warning and control of coal burst so that effective safety measures can be taken in real time.

We present a catalytic strategy for converting lignin into various pharmaceutical intermediates based on a highly selective lignin depolymerization method and a green benzylic oxidation method employing O2. Selective depolymerization of lignin first afforded 4-ethylphenol, which then efficiently generates several pharmaceutical intermediates with a simple 5-step process, resulting in substantial economic benefits. The study provides an innovative solution for the efficient utilization of lignin and the green acquisition of pharmaceutical intermediates.

Developing sensors with high selectivity and sensitivity is of great significance for pesticide analysis in environmental assessment. Herein, a versatile three-way sensor array was designed for the detection of the pesticide atrazine, based on the integration of catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) amplification and three-mode signal transducers. With atrazine, CHA was triggered to generate abundant G-quadruplex. The produced G-quadruplex hybrid could assemble with thioflavin T (TFT) or hemin to mimic enzyme and induce the fluorescence enhancement by TFT, or the colorimetric increase by the oxidized chromogenic substrate and the naked-eye color change by inhibiting the L-cysteine-mediated aggregation of gold nanoparticles. A distinctive three-mode array was successfully constructed with convenience, on-site accessibility and high sensitivity for enzyme-free practical analysis of atrazine. It is also effective and reliable for analyzing real samples including paddy water, paddy soil and polished rice. The detection limits for atrazine were as low as 7.4 pg/mL by colorimetric observation and 0.25 pg/mL by fluorescent detection. Furthermore, the array was exploited to monitor the residue, distribution and bioaccumulation of atrazine in maize and rice for food security and environmental assessment. Hence, this work presented a versatile example for sensitive and on-site all-in-one pesticide analysis arrays with multiple signal report modes.

BACKGROUND: Information complementarity can be achieved by fusing MR and CT images, and fusion images have abundant soft tissue and bone information, facilitating accurate auxiliary diagnosis and tumor target delineation. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to construct high-quality fusion images based on the MR and CT images of intracranial tumors by using the Residual-Residual Network (Res2Net) method. METHODS: This paper proposes an MR and CT image fusion method based on Res2Net. The method comprises three components: feature extractor, fusion layer, and reconstructor. The feature extractor utilizes the Res2Net framework to extract multiscale features from source images. The fusion layer incorporates a fusion strategy based on spatial mean attention, adaptively adjusting fusion weights for feature maps at each position to preserve fine details from the source images. Finally, fused features are input into the feature reconstructor to reconstruct a fused image. RESULTS: Qualitative results indicate that the proposed fusion method exhibits clear boundary contours and accurate localization of tumor regions. Quantitative results show that the method achieves average gradient, spatial frequency, entropy, and visual information fidelity for fusion metrics of 4.6771, 13.2055, 1.8663, and 0.5176, respectively. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method preserves more texture details and structural information in fused images than advanced fusion algorithms, reducing spectral artifacts and information loss and performing better in terms of visual quality and objective metrics. CONCLUSION: The proposed method effectively combines MR and CT image information, allowing the precise localization of tumor region boundaries, assisting clinicians in clinical diagnosis.

Oscillations in the chemical or physical properties of materials, composed of an odd or even number of connected repeating methylene units, are a well-known phenomenon in organic chemistry and materials science. So far, such behavior has not been reported for the important class of materials, perovskite semiconductors. This work reports a distinct odd-even oscillation of the molecular structure and charge carrier transport properties of phenylalkylammonium two-dimensional (2D) Sn-based perovskites in which the alkyl chains in the phenylalkylammonium cations contain varying odd and even carbon numbers. Density functional theory calculations and grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering characterization reveal that perovskites with organic ligands containing an alkyl chain with an odd number of carbon atoms display a disordered crystal lattice and tilted inorganic octahedra accompanied by reduced mobilities. In contrast, perovskites with cations of an even number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chain form more ordered crystal structures, resulting in improved charge carrier mobilities. Our findings disclose the importance of minor changes in the molecular conformation of organic cations have an effect on morphology, photophysical properties, and charge carrier transport of 2D layered perovskites, showcasing alkyl chain engineering of organic cations to control key properties, of layered perovskite semiconductors.
