BACKGROUND: Tuta absoluta is an invasive alien species that has caused major losses in the Chinese tomato industry. Investigating the growth, development, reproduction and pest control effects of three native species of Trichogramma species on the eggs of T. absoluta could provide an ecological tool for preventing and controlling T. absoluta in China. In this study, we constructed age-stage two-sex life tables for three common species of Trichogramma and determined their relative abilities to control T. absoluta in greenhouse insect cages, thus allowing us to identify the species with the most effective ability to prey on T. absoluta eggs. RESULTS: Analysis showed that the net reproductive rate (R0), gross reproduction rate (GRR) and intrinsic rate of increase (r) of Trichogramma ostriniae were the highest of the three species at 22.85, 32.58 and 1.31, respectively. In the presence of 10 eggs and under ideal conditions, T. ostriniae, Trichogramma chilonis, and Trichogramma dendrolimi produced 9451.04, 5199.56, and 1902.95 offspring, respectively. Following the release of T. ostriniae, tomato leaves incurred a damage index of 1 after the first week, while the number of T. absoluta reduced to 24.60 individuals by week 10 (8.75% of the control treatment). CONCLUSION: Of the three species of Trichogramma tested in this study, T. ostriniae exhibited the best growth, development, reproductive capacity and predatory ability against T. absoluta, and has broad application prospects. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) patients have an increased susceptibility to coronary heart disease (CHD) due to dysregulated lipid deposition. We conducted a comprehensive investigation to gain insights into the specific roles of Apolipoprotein B-100 (APOB-100) in the development of CHD in patients suffering from SCI. First, we established an SCI rat model through semitransection. APOB-100 expression in plasma exosomes obtained from patients were determined. Subsequently, we found APOB-100 affected macrophage polarization when treating co-cultured neurons/macrophages lacking Sortilin with extracellular vesicles derived from SCI rats, where APOB-100 co-immunoprecipitated with Sortilin. Moreover, APOB-100 upregulation reduced neuronal cell viability and triggered apoptosis by upregulating Sortilin, leading to a decline in the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) scale, exacerbation of neuron injury, increased macrophage infiltration, and elevated blood lipid-related indicators in SCI rats, which could be reversed by silencing Sortilin. In conclusion, APOB-100 from post-SCI patients' extracellular vesicles upregulates Sortilin, thereby endangering those patients to CHD.

In the context of diabetes, endothelial cells frequently exhibit compromised intercellular junctions and accelerated cellular senescence simultaneously. The precise mechanisms underlying these issues and the identification of effective treatments remain largely undefined. Our findings reveal that human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) can counteract senescence and uphold the integrity of intercellular junctions under mildly to moderately elevated glucose levels (10 mM and 15 mM) via two primary mechanisms: i) The acetylation of NRF2 at lysine residues K56, K68, and K52 prevents its ubiquitination, enhancing the transcription of antioxidant genes GST, SOD1, and GPX1. This activity diminishes cytoplasmic oxidative stress, thereby mitigating endothelial cell senescence. ii) The interaction between the Neh2 domain of NRF2 and the PAS-B domain of HIF-2α within the nucleus curtails the attachment of HIF-2α to the NOX4/p22phox promoter. This action lessens oxidative stress near the cell membrane, maintaining intercellular junctions by safeguarding the disulfide bonds in occludin and E-cadherin from disruption. However, these protective strategies prove insufficient under severe hyperglycemic conditions (25 mM). Further investigation has identified Oltipraz, an activator of NRF2, as also promoting the degradation of HIF-2α. Through its simultaneous modulation of NRF2 and HIF-2α, Oltipraz significantly reduces cellular senescence and prevents the deterioration of intercellular junctions in HUVECs subjected to high glucose concentrations (25 mM). Our research positions Oltipraz as a promising therapeutic candidate for mitigating diabetes-induced vascular endothelial damage, potentially offering benefits against diabetes-related atherosclerosis and valvular calcification.

The Booroola fecundity mutation (FecB) in Small Tail Han sheep has been shown to enhance ovulation rates and litter sizes by affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Despite the pituitary's role in reproductive regulation, its involvement in FecB-induced ovulation remains understudied. Our study aimed to fill this gap by analyzing pituitary tissues from FecB homozygous (BB) and wild-type (WW) ewes during luteal and follicular phases using tandem mass tag-based protein quantification and the DIABLO framework for proteomic and transcriptomic data integration. Significant differences in 277 proteins were observed across estrus periods, with network analysis highlighting the voltage-dependent calcium channel L-type alpha-1C as a key convergence point in oxytocin signaling and GnRH secretion pathways. The DIABLO method revealed a strong correlation (0.98) between proteomic and transcriptomic datasets, indicating a coordinated response in FecB ewes. Notably, higher expression levels of Follicle Stimulating Hormone Subunit Beta (FSHB) and Luteinizing Hormone Subunit Beta (LHB) were found in BB ewes during the follicular phase, potentially due to elevated E2 concentrations. Furthermore, our analysis identified genes related to the Gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor family (GABRA2, GABRG1, GABRB1) in the pituitary, with GABRB1 showing higher expression in BB ewes. This suggests a role for GABA in modulating GnRH and gonadotropin feedback loops, potentially contributing to the FecB mutation's effect on ovulation. This study provides novel insights into the pituitary's role in fertility among FecB sheep, identifying GABA as a potential regulatory factor within the HPG axis. The findings also open avenues for discovering new biomarkers in pituitary endocrinology for sheep breeding purposes.

Flexible and high-performance aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs), coupled with low cost and safe, are considered as one of the most promising energy storage candidates for wearable electronics. However, most of hydrogel electrolytes suffer from poor mechanical properties and interfacial chemistry, which limits them to suppressed performance levels in flexible ZIBs, especially under harsh mechanical strains. Herein, a bio-inspired multifunctional hydrogel electrolyte network (polyacrylamide (PAM)/trehalose) with improved mechanical and adhesive properties was developed via a simple trehalose network-repairing strategy to stabilize the interfacial chemistry for highly reversible flexible ZIBs. As a result, the trehalose-modified PAM hydrogel exhibits a superior strength and stretchability up to 100 kPa and 5338%, respectively, as well as strong adhesive properties to various substrates. Also, the PAM/trehalose hydrogel electrolyte provides superior anti-corrosion capability for Zn anode and regulates Zn nucleation/growth, resulting in achieving a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.8%, and long-term stability over 2400 h. Importantly, the flexible Zn//MnO2 pouch cell exhibits excellent cycling performance under different bending conditions, which offers a great potential in flexible energy-related applications and beyond.

Efficient synthesis of H2O2 via photocatalytic oxygen reduction without sacrificial agents is challenging due to inadequate proton supply from water and difficulty in maintaining O-O bond during O2 activation. Herein, we developed a straightforward strategy involving a proton-rich hydrogel cross-linked by metal ions [M(n)], which is designed to facilitate the selective production of H2O2 through proton relay and metal ion-assisted detachment of crucial intermediates. The hydrogel comprises CdS/graphene and alginate cross-linked by metal ions via O=C-O-M(n) bonds. Efficient O2 reduction and hydrogenation occurred, benefitting from the collaboration between proton-rich alginate and the photocatalytically active CdS/graphene. Meanwhile, the O=C-O-M(n) bonds enhance the electron density of α-carbon sites on graphene, crucial for O2 activation and *OOH intermediate detachment, preventing deeper O-O bond cleavage. The role of metal ions in promoting *OOH desorption was evident through Lewis acidity-dependent activity, with Y(III) demonstrating the highest activity followed by Lu(III), La(III), and Ca(II).

STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. OBJECTIVES: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) presents a significant risk of complication in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), necessitating accurate screening methods. While the Caprini Risk Assessment Model (Caprini RAM) has seen extensive use for DVT screening, its efficacy remains under scrutiny. SETTING: First Affiliated Hospital of China University of Science and Technology. METHODS: We created and evaluated three nomograms for their effectiveness in DVT screening. Model 1 incorporated variables such as age, D-dimer level, red blood cell (RBC) counts, platelet counts, presence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, mode and level of injury, degree of impairments, and Caprini scores. Model 2 was derived from Caprini scores alone, and Model 3 focused on independent risk factors. We assessed these models using the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC), calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA), employing bootstrap resampling tests (500 iterations) to determine their accuracy, discriminative ability, and clinical utility. Internal validation was performed on a separate cohort. Nomogram was established with well-fitted calibration curves for model 1, 2 and 3(AUC = 0.808, 0.751 and 0.797; 95%CI = 0.76-0.86, 0.70-0.80 and 0.75-0.84; respectively), indicating model 1 outperformed the others in prediction DVT risk, followed by model 3 and 2. These findings were consistent in the validation cohort, with DCA further corroborating our conclusions. CONCLUSION: A nomogram integrating clinical data with Caprini RAM provides a superior option for DVT screening in SCI patients within rehabilitation settings, outperforming Caprini RAM.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the quantitative assessment and application of Synthetic MRI (SyMRI) for preoperative brain development in children with congenital heart disease (CHD). METHODS: Forty-three CHD patients aged 2-24 months were prospectively included in the observation group, and 43 healthy infants were included in the control group. The SyMRI scans were processed by postprocessing software to obtain T1, T2, and PD maps. The values of T1, T2, and PD in different brain regions were compared with the scores of the five ability areas of the Gesell Development Scale by Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS: In the observation group, the T1 values of the posterior limb of the internal capsule (PLIC), Optic radiation (PTR), cerebral peduncle, centrum semiovale, occipital white matter, temporal white matter, and dentate nucleus were greater than those in the control group. In the observation group, the T2 values of the PLIC, PTR, frontal white matter, occipital white matter, temporal white matter, and dentate nucleus were greater than those in the control group. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the observation group had significantly lower Development Scale scores. In the observation group, the T2 value of the splenium of the corpus callosum was significantly positively correlated with the personal social behavior score. The AUCs for diagnosing preoperative brain developmental abnormalities in children with CHD using T1 values of the temporal white matter and dentate nucleus were both greater than 0.60. CONCLUSIONS: Quantitative assessment using SyMRI can aid in the early detection of preoperative brain development abnormalities in children with CHD. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: T1 and T2 relaxation values from SyMRI can be considered as a quantitative imaging marker to detect abnormalities, allowing for early clinical evaluation and timely intervention, thereby reducing neurodevelopmental disorders in these children. KEY POINTS: T1 and T2 relaxation values by SyMRI are related to myelin development. Evaluated development quotient markers were lower in the observation compared to the control group. SyMRI can act as a reference indicator for brain development in CHD children.

Collaborative treatment of pollutants is a promising approach for wastewater treatment. In this work, a covalent organic framework material (COFs) with an imine structure was synthesised by the Schiff base reaction, and photochemical tests showed good photochemical effects. It was used to explore the photocatalytic treatment of co-existing pollutants (heavy metal ions and antibiotics) and the performance of treating co-existing wastewater was investigated. The degradation performance of levofloxacin (LVX) and Cr(VI) was improved in the coexisting pollutants system, with the LVX degradation being 4.2 times more effective than that of the LVX solitary system. Moreover, this phenomenon was also observed in LVX/Ag(I), LVX/Fe(III), sulfadiazine/Cr(VI), norfloxacin/Cr(VI) and tetracycline/Cr(VI) systems. The analysis of active species suggesting that the synergistic promotion of photocatalytic oxidation-reduction systems was not only promoting from the improvement of simple charge separation, but it was also found that high-valent metal species can act directly in the oxidative decomposition of antibiotics. The interaction of pollutants and intermediates were rationally exploited and confirmed by control experiments and theoretical calculation. This conclusion helps us to re-examine the underlying mechanisms of photocatalytic synchronous oxidation and reduction reactions, simultaneously beneficial for the development of mixed pollutant control processes.

Global climate warming and frequent extreme low-temperature events have made it essential to investigate the impact of low temperatures on parasitic wasps to protect and strengthen farmland biodiversity, which in turn enhances the biological control potential of natural enemies such as parasitic wasps. We systematically examined how low-temperature stress affects the parasitic functional response of Trichopria drosophilae to Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) pupae. Our findings indicate that the parasitic behavior of T. drosophilae towards D. suzukii pupae aligns with the Holling II functional response model following exposure to different temperatures. Within the temperature range of 8 °C to -8 °C, lower temperatures correlated decreased instantaneous attack rate of T. drosophilae and an increase in processing time. The search constant Q initially increased and then decreased with declining temperatures. Short-term low-temperature stress negatively impacted the parasitic and searching abilities of T. drosophilae but did not alter its parasitic functional response model. Notably, short-term low-temperature stress had minimal effects on the water content, protein content, and total sugar content of male and female T. drosophilae adults. However, as temperatures decreased, the activities of key enzymes, including GAPDH, SOD, T-AOC, and malondialdehyde (MDA), exhibited an initial increase followed by a decrease. Conversely, the activities of LDH and HOAD decreased, while the activities of CAT and POD increased. Further study on the effect of short-term low temperature on T. drosophilae can provide a research basis for the large-scale production and low-temperature refrigeration technology of T. drosophilae, and provide a scientific basis for its efficient use in the field.

Nine new sesquiterpene alkaloids, eurochevalierines A-I (1-9), were separated from the rice cultures of the endophytic fungus Penicillium sp. HZ-5 originated from the fresh leaf of Hypericum wilsonii N. Robson. The structures' illumination was conducted by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, extensive spectroscopic analysis, alkaline hydrolysis reaction, and Snatzke's method. Importantly, the antitumor activities screen of these isolates indicated that 1 could suppress triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell proliferation and induce apoptosis, with an IC50 value of 5.4 µM, which is comparable to the positive control docetaxel (DXT). Flow cytometry experiments mentioned that compound 1 significantly reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) of TNBC cells. In addition, 1 could activate caspase-3 and elevated the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and expressions of suppressive cytokines and chemokines. Further Western blot analysis showed that 1 could selectively induce mitochondria-dependent apoptosis in TNBC cells via the BAX/BCL-2 pathway. Remarkably, these finding provide a new natural product skeleton for the treatment of TNBC.

The fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (FBA) gene family exists in higher plants, with the genes of this family playing significant roles in plant growth and development, as well as response to abiotic stresses. However, systematic reports on the FBA gene family and its functions in cucumber are lacking. In this study, we identified five cucumber FBA genes, named CsFBA1-5, that are distributed randomly across chromosomes. Phylogenetic analyses involving these cucumber FBAs, alongside eight Arabidopsis FBA proteins and eight tomato FBA proteins, were conducted to assess their homology. The CsFBAs were grouped into two clades. We also analyzed the physicochemical properties, motif composition, and gene structure of the cucumber FBAs. This analysis highlighted differences in the physicochemical properties and revealed highly conserved domains within the CsFBA family. Additionally, to explore the evolutionary relationships of the CsFBA family further, we constructed comparative syntenic maps with Arabidopsis and tomato, which showed high homology but only one segmental duplication event within the cucumber genome. Expression profiles indicated that the CsFBA gene family is responsive to various abiotic stresses, including low temperature, heat, and salt. Taken together, the results of this study provide a theoretical foundation for understanding the evolution of and future research into the functional characterization of cucumber FBA genes during plant growth and development.

BACKGROUND: Powdery mildew (caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt)) and leaf rust (caused by Puccinia triticina (Pt)) are prevalent diseases in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production. Thinopyrum ponticum (2n = 10x = 70, EeEeEbEbExExStStStSt) contains genes that confer high levels of resistance to these diseases. RESULTS: An elite wheat-Th. ponticum disomic substitution line, DS5Ag(5D), was developed in the Bainong Aikang 58 (AK58) background. The line was assessed using genomic in situ hybridization (GISH), oligo-nucleotide probe multiplex (ONPM) fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and molecular markers. Twenty eight chromosome-specific molecular markers were identified for the alien chromosome, and 22 of them were co-dominant. Additionally, SNP markers from the wheat 660 K SNP chip were utilized to confirm chromosome identification and they provide molecular tools for tagging the chromosome in concern. The substitution line demonstrated high levels of resistance to powdery mildew throughout its growth period and to leaf rust at the adult stage. Based on the resistance evaluation of five F5 populations between the substitution lines and wheat genotypes with different levels of sensitivity to the two diseases. Results showed that the resistance genes located on 5Ag confered stable resistance against both diseases across different backgrounds. Resistance spectrum analysis combined with diagnostic marker detection of known resistance genes of Th. ponticum revealed that 5Ag contained two novel genes, Pm5Ag and Lr5Ag, which conferred resistance to powdery mildew and leaf rust, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, a novel wheat-Th. ponticum disomic substitution line DS5Ag(5D) was successfully developed. The Th. ponticum chromosome 5Ag contain new resistance genes for powdery mildew and leaf rust. Chromosomic-specific molecular markers were generated and they can be used to track the 5Ag chromosome fragments. Consequently, this study provides new elite germplasm resources and molecular markers to facilitate the breeding of wheat varieties that is resistant to powdery mildew and leaf rust.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Angiographic assessment of coronary stenosis severity using quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) is often inconsistent with that based on fractional flow reserve (FFR) or intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). We investigated the incidence of discrepancies between QCA and FFR or IVUS, and the outcomes of FFR- and IVUS-guided strategies in discordant coronary lesions. METHODS: This study was a post-hoc analysis of the FLAVOUR study. We used a QCA-derived diameter stenosis (DS) of 60% or greater, the highest tertile, to classify coronary lesions as concordant or discordant with FFR or IVUS criteria for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The patient-oriented composite outcome (POCO) was defined as a composite of death, myocardial infarction, or revascularization at 24 months. RESULTS: The discordance rate between QCA and FFR or IVUS was 30.2% (n=551). The QCA-FFR discordance rate was numerically lower than the QCA-IVUS discordance rate (28.2% vs. 32.4%, p=0.050). In 200 patients with ≥60% DS, PCI was deferred according to negative FFR (n=141) and negative IVUS (n=59) (15.3% vs. 6.5%, p<0.001). The POCO incidence was comparable between the FFR- and IVUS-guided deferral strategies (5.9% vs. 3.4%, p=0.479). Conversely, 351 patients with DS <60% underwent PCI according to positive FFR (n=118) and positive IVUS (n=233) (12.8% vs. 25.9%, p<0.001). FFR- and IVUS-guided PCI did not differ in the incidence of POCO (9.5% vs. 6.5%, p=0.294). CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of QCA-FFR or IVUS discordance was approximately one third for intermediate coronary lesions. In this paper, we investigate the theoretical models and potential applications of spatial diffractive neural network (SDNN) structures, with a particular focus on mode manipulation. Our research introduces a novel diffractive transmission simulation method that employs matrix multiplication, alongside a parameter optimization algorithm based on neural network gradient descent. This approach facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the light field manipulation capabilities inherent to SDNNs. We extend our investigation to parameter optimization for SDNNs of various scales. We achieve the demultiplexing of 5, 11 and 100 orthogonal orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes using neural networks with 4, 10 and 50 layers, respectively. Notably, the optimized 100 OAM mode demultiplexer shows an average loss of 0.52 dB, a maximum loss of 0.62 dB, and a maximum crosstalk of -28.24 dB. Further exploring the potential of SDNNs, we optimize a 10-layer structure for mode conversion applications. This optimization enables conversions from Hermite-Gaussian (HG) to Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) modes, as well as from HG to OAM modes, showing the versatility of SDNNs in mode manipulation. We propose an innovative assembly of SDNNs on a glass substrate integrated with photonic devices. A 10-layer diffractive neural network, with a size of 49 mm × 7 mm × 7 mm, effectively demultiplexes 11 orthogonal OAM modes with minimal loss and crosstalk. Similarly, a 20-layer diffractive neural network, with a size of 67 mm × 7 mm × 7 mm, serves as a highly efficient 25-channel OAM to HG mode converter, showing the potential of SDNNs in advanced optical communications.

Genetic variations in the ovine ovulation rate, which are associated with the FecB mutation, provide useful models by which to explore the mechanisms regulating the development of mammalian antral follicles. In order to study the effects of the FecB mutation on cumulus cell differentiation, preovulatory follicles were aspirated and cumulus cells were isolated from three FecB genotypes (homozygous, heterozygous and wild type) of Small Tail Han (STH) sheep superstimulated with FSH. Transcriptome information from tens of thousands of cumulus cells was determined with the 10 × Genomics single-cell RNA-seq technology. Under the superovulation treatment, the observed number of preovulatory follicles in the ovaries of FecB carriers was still significantly higher than that in the wild-type (P < 0.05). The expression patterns of cumulus cells differed between FecB carriers and wild-type ewes. The screened cumulus cells could also be further divided into different cell clusters, and the differentiation states and fates of each group of cumulus cells also remained different, which supports the notion that heterogeneity in gene expression is prevalent in single cells. The oxidative phosphorylation pathway was significantly enriched in differentially expressed genes among the cell differentiation branch nodes of cumulus cells and among the differentially expressed genes of cumulus cells from the three genotypes. Combined with the important role of oxidative phosphorylation in the maturation of COCs, we suggest that the oxidative phosphorylation pathway of cumulus cells plays a crucial role in the differentiation process of cumulus cells and the mutation effect of the FecB gene.

The bloom-forming species Microcystis wesenbergii and M. aeruginosa occur in many lakes globally, and may exhibit alternating blooms both spatially and temporally. As environmental changes increase, cyanobacteria bloom in more and more lakes and are often dominated by M. wesenbergii. The adverse impact of M. aeruginosa on co-existing organisms including zooplanktonic species has been well-studied, whereas studies of M. wesenbergii are limited. To compare effects of these two species on zooplankton, we explored effects of exudates from different strains of microcystin-producing M. aeruginosa (Ma905 and Ma526) and non-microcystin-producing M. wesenbergii (Mw908 and Mw929), on reproduction by the model zooplankter Daphnia magna in both chronic and acute exposure experiments. Specifically, we tested physiological, biochemical, molecular and transcriptomic characteristics of D. magna exposed to Microcystis exudates. We observed that body length and egg and offspring number of the daphnid increased in all treatments. Among the four strains tested, Ma526 enhanced the size of the first brood, as well as total egg and offspring number. Microcystis exudates stimulated expression of specific genes that induced ecdysone, juvenile hormone, triacylglycerol and vitellogenin biosynthesis, which, in turn, enhanced egg and offspring production of D. magna. Even though all strains of Microcystis affected growth and reproduction, large numbers of downregulated genes involving many essential pathways indicated that the Ma905 strain might contemporaneously induce damage in D. magna. Our study highlights the necessity of including M. wesenbergii into the ecological risk evaluation of cyanobacteria blooms, and emphasizes that consequences to zooplankton may not be clear-cut when assessments are based upon production of microcystins alone.

Polymer waste is currently a big and challenging issue throughout the world. Waste tires represent an important source of polymer waste. Therefore, it is highly desirable to recycle functional fillers from waste tires to develop composite materials for advanced applications. The primary theme of this review involves an overview of developing polystyrene (PS) composites using materials from recycled tires as fillers; waste tire recycling in terms of ground tire rubbers, carbon black, and textile fibers; surface treatments of the fillers to optimize various composite properties; and the mechanical, fire retarding, acoustic, and electromagnetic field (EMI) shielding performances of PS composite materials. The development of composite materials from polystyrene and recycled waste tires provides a novel avenue to achieve reductions in carbon emission goals and closed-loop plastic recycling, which is of significance in the development of circular economics and an environmentally friendly society.

BACKGROUND: The delicate periorbital region is susceptible to skin dehydration, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. Thus, targeted and effective anti-aging interventions are necessary for the periorbital area. AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new anti-aging eye cream formulated with the active complex (Yeast/rice fermentation filtrate, N-acetylneuraminic acid, palmityl tripeptide-1, and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7). METHODS: The cell viability and expressions of key extracellular matrix (ECM) components of the active complex were evaluated using a human skin fibroblast model. In the 12-week clinical trial, skin hydration, elasticity, facial photographs, and collagen density following eye cream application were assessed using Corneometer, Cutometer, VISIA, and ultrasound device, respectively. Dermatologists and participants evaluated clinical efficacy and safety at baseline, and after 4, 8, and 12 weeks. RESULTS: PCR and immunofluorescent analyses revealed that the active complex significantly stimulated fibroblast proliferation (p < 0.05) and markedly promote the synthesis of collagen and elastin. Clinical findings exhibited a substantial enhancement in skin hydration (28.12%), elasticity (18.81%), and collagen production (54.99%) following 12 weeks of eye cream application. Dermatological evaluations and participants' assessments reported a significant improvement in skin moisture, roughness, elasticity, as well as fine lines and wrinkles by week 8. CONCLUSION: The new anti-aging eye cream, enriched with the active complex, demonstrates comprehensive rejuvenating effects, effectively addressing aging concerns in the periorbital area, coupled with a high safety profile.
