El articulo comenta las tareas preliminares encaradas por la empresa Aguas de Corrientes sobre la factibilidad para el futuro manejo integral del tratamiento y reuso de aguas depuradas con fines de riego y como aporte de nutrientes. Se describen los objetivos, metodologia, resultados y conclusiones del proyecto; asi sus impactos sociales, economicos y ambientales tanto positivos como negativos

El objetivo del trabajo es comentar las actividades que estan siendo desarrolladas por Aguas de Corrientes SA para la transformacion de lodos generados en sus plantas de tratamiento de liquidos cloacales de Paso de los Libres y Esquina con sistema de aereacion extendida; y Monte Caseros, a partir de la limpieza de la laguna primaria del sistema I de estabilizacion de liquidos cloacales. Tambien se informan los controles de calidad y ensayos que se ejecutan para evaluar la viabilidad tecnica y economica del proyecto, cuyo objeto es desarrollar programas de estudio y valoracion de diferentes tecnologias para la transformacion de lodos en biosolidos que cumplan con la normativa vigente y posibilite su uso como enmienda organica

A confinement experiment in a normobaric diving chamber was undertaken to better understand the effect of confinement and isolation on human psychology and physiology. Pre- and postconfinement blood samples were obtained from four test subjects and control donors to analyze immune responses. No modification in the levels of CD2+, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD19+, and CD56+ cells was observed after confinement. Mitogen-induced T-lymphocyte proliferation and interleukin-2 receptor expression were not altered significantly. Whole blood interferon-alpha and gamma-induction and plasma cortisol levels were also unchanged, as was natural killer cell activity. These data suggest that in humans, no specific components of the immune response are affected by a 2-month isolation and confinement of a small group.

A new cell line was derived from the epithelioid sarcoma of a Caucasian woman who had previously received chemotherapy. The cells grew as an adherent monolayer, with a doubling time of 28 hr and had mainly epithelial morphology, but with areas of mesenchymal-like cytoplasmic extensions. The cells were tumorigenic in nude mice, with a short growth time, and a doubling time of 8 days. The cell line showed over-expression of P-glycoprotein by Western blot analysis, and its sensitivity to doxorubicin and vincristine was low. This sensitivity could be enhanced by reversants of multidrug resistance (MDR), such as cyclosporin or verapamil. This cell line constitutes an excellent model for studying compounds able to reverse MDR.
