This paper presents a study that aims to identify the trajectory of job tension during a challenge-based learning (CBL) activity and study the role of student workgroup emotional intelligence in such a context. More longitudinal research on student stress is deemed necessary. The authors used Karasek's demand-control model (1979), collected longitudinal data (gathered at ten time points) from a 73-member team participating in an international student competition, and analyzed the data using the latent growth model approach. To the authors' knowledge no research has used panel data with multiple time points to explore the trajectory of job tension during a challenge-based learning activity. The findings indicate that the job tension of teams participating in a challenge-based learning activity has a quadratic rate of change, and that student work group emotional intelligence predicts individual differences with respect to team-level job tension. Practical implications include actions to improve the implementation of CBL tasks and to better deal with job tension and emotional intelligence in working groups.

Castilleja tenuiflora (Orobanchaceae) has been used in Mexican traditional medicine as a treatment for cough, dysentery, anxiety, nausea and vomiting as well as hepatic and gastrointestinal diseases. The ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Castilleja tenuiflora was separated by silica gel column chromatography. The fractions were evaluated using the induced edema acetate 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol (TPA) anti-inflammatory activity model. The most active fraction was subjected to medium-pressure liquid chromatography (MPLC) with UV detection at 206 and 240 nm. The following iridoids were isolated: geniposidic acid, aucubin, bartioside, 8-epi-loganin, mussaenoside, and the phenylpropanoid verbascoside. The most active iridoid was geniposidic acid, which was more active than the control (indomethacin), and the least active iridoid was mussaenoside. 8-epi-Loganin, and mussaenoside have not been previously reported to be anti-inflammatory compounds. The results of these investigations confirm the potential of Mexican plants for the production of bioactive compounds and validate the ethnomedical use of Castilleja tenuiflora-like anti-inflammatory plants.

Four Mexican Nymphaea species, N. ampla, N. pulchella, N. gracilis and N. elegans belonging to subgenera Brachyceras were analyzed. In this work two 5-glycosyl isoflavones, 7,3',4'-trihydroxy-5-O-beta-D-(2''-acetyl)-xylopyranosylisoflavone (1) and 7,3',4'-trihydroxy-5-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylisoflavone (2), were isolated from N. ampla and N. pulchella, respectively, together with other known 3-glycosyl flavones and triterpene saponins from the same four species. The structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR, FABMS, and other spectroscopic analyses. These results confirmed that the four species were different from each other and established that N. pulchella represents a different taxa than N. ampla. In addition, the 5-glycosyl isoflavones could be considered as a taxonomic character of this group of plants.
