ABSTRACT

Recent studies show that nanofillers greatly contribute to the increase in the mechanical and abrasive behaviors of the polymer composite. In the current study, epoxy composites were made by hand lay-up with the reinforcement of carbon fabric and titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles as secondary reinforcement in weight percentages of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0. Hardness, tensile, and abrasive wear tests have been carried out for the fabricated composites. The obtained results confirm that as the percentage of filler addition increases, hardness of the carbon epoxy (CE) composite increases, and significant enhancement of 10.25% hardness is confirmed in 2 wt % nano TiO2-added CE composite. The CE composite filled with 2 wt % of TiO2 nanofiller shows 15.77 and 9.15% improvement of tensile strength and modulus, respectively, compared to unfilled CE composites. The abrasive wear volume exhibits a nearly linear increasing trend as the abrading distance increases. In addition, it is discovered that the abrasive wear volume is greater for higher applied loads. The inclusion of nano TiO2 reduced the wear loss in the CE composite for all abrading distances, regardless of the load, low or high. The scanning electron microscopy analysis of worn surfaces was carried out to analyze the contribution of the filler to improve the wear resistance.

ABSTRACT

The article presents the possibility of increasing the water resistance of gypsum binders (GBs) obtained based on synthetic gypsum by introducing additives derived from industrial wastes. Regularities were obtained for the influence of the type and amount of additives on the water/gypsum ratio (W/G), strength indicators and water resistance of high-strength GB. The introduction of a single-component additive to improve water resistance does not have a significant effect. Complex additives based on Portland cement, granulated blast-furnace slag, electric steel-smelting slag, expanded clay dust and granite screenings of various fractions have been developed that make the maximum contribution to improving the water resistance of a high-strength GB based on synthetic calcium sulphate dihydrate, which made it possible to increase the water-resistance coefficient from 0.39 to 0.82.

ABSTRACT

Graphene's two-dimensional structural arrangement has sparked a revolutionary transformation in the domain of conductive transparent devices, presenting a unique opportunity in the renewable energy sector. This comprehensive Review critically evaluates the most recent advances in graphene production and its employment in solar cells, focusing on dye-sensitized, organic, and perovskite devices for bulk heterojunction (BHJ) designs. This comprehensive investigation discovered the following captivating results: graphene integration resulted in a notable 20.3% improvement in energy conversion rates in graphene-perovskite photovoltaic cells. In comparison, BHJ cells saw a laudable 10% boost. Notably, graphene's 2D internal architecture emerges as a protector for photovoltaic devices, guaranteeing long-term stability against various environmental challenges. It acts as a transportation facilitator and charge extractor to the electrodes in photovoltaic cells. Additionally, this Review investigates current research highlighting the role of graphene derivatives and their products in solar PV systems, illuminating the way forward. The study elaborates on the complexities, challenges, and promising prospects underlying the use of graphene, revealing its reflective implications for the future of solar photovoltaic applications.

ABSTRACT

Chondroid syringoma (CS) is a rare benign tumor of the sweat gland. It generally presents as a painless, slowly growing, subcutaneous swelling, typically located on the head and neck region. The majority of the cases develop in middle aged and elderly males. We present a case of CS located over the right thumb of a 25-year-old male. The diagnosis was made initially by cytological evaluation and later confirmed by histopathological examination. There was no recurrence on two year follow up after the complete surgical excision of the tumor.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Diseases of the skin and superficial subcutaneous soft tissues present with a wide array of lesions ranging from nonspecific dermatoses and inflammatory lesions to frank neoplasms. Though cytopathology is an excellent diagnostic tool in routine dermatologic practice, studies relating to histopathological and cytological correlation are sparse. The aim of this study was to analyze the concordance rate between cytological and histopathological diagnosis of skin and superficial soft tissue lesions. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We retrospectively studied 510 consecutive fine needle aspiration cytology findings of cases from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and correlated their diagnoses based upon cytological and histopathological grounds. RESULTS: Out of the 510 cases studied, 253 were non neoplastic lesions and 257 were neoplastic. A high degree of concordance was observed (100% for malignant and 96.15% for benign lesions) when these two diagnostic modalities were compared. Histopathological correlation was possible in all malignant, 52/189 (27.51%) of benign and 27/253 (10.67%) of non-neoplastic lesions. Sensitivity and specificity of diagnoses were 95.31% and 97.6%, respectively. CONCLUSION: It can be safely concluded that fine needle aspiration cytology is a rapid, reliable and fairly accurate tool for initial triage and treatment of skin and superficial soft tissue lesions.
