INTRODUCTION: We present a single-eyed case with a previous diagnosis of breast cancer who had intraretinal cystoid changes associated with the systemic administration of ixabepilone in her only seeing eye. To our best knowledge, this is the first reported case describing this phenomenon related to the ixabepilone administration. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 54-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer was examined due to visual deterioration in her only good left eye. The patient had undergone cataract surgery and lens implantation in her right eye following a childhood accident, but subsequently had developed a refractory glaucoma and lost her right vision. Six cycles of 40 mg/m2 systemic ixabepilone (3-hly intravenous infusion once every 3 weeks) had been administered within the past six months. Her visual decline started two weeks following the last treatment session. She was offered intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injection elsewhere. Fluorescein angiogram showed no dye leakage whereas spectral-domain optical coherence tomography demonstrated parafoveal intraretinal cystoid changes. En-face optical coherence tomography revealed petaloid type roundish hyporeflective areas at the level of superficial and deep vascular plexus. Ixabepilone-associated cystoid maculopathy was suspected as she received only ixabepilone for the chemotherapy in the last six months. We thus recommended her not to continue ixabepilone therapy. Ten weeks after the ixabepilone cessation, intraretinal cystoid changes had resolved completely. CONCLUSION: Angiographically silent intraretinal cystoid changes may develop in association with the use of ixabepilone. Referral to an ophthalmologist should be considered for the patients experiencing visual complaints as ixabepilone cessation may lead to visual improvement and avoid unnecessary treatment.

We present a 20-year-old woman who was diagnosed with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) 20 months after presenting with unilateral retinitis. At presentation, the patient had two inferotemporal macular lesions in her left eye. Corresponding to these areas, optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed hyporeflective spaces with loss of nearly all of the retinal layers. OCT-angiography (OCTA) demonstrated some flow deficit areas with a reduction in the vessel density. Her serum measles antibody titre was high (IgG >5000.0 mIU/ml). Twenty months later the macular lesions had diminished in size, and there was some focal retinal thinning with interruption of the ellipsoid zone. OCTA showed that the flow deficit areas were diminished in size together with the relatively improved perfusion density. Neurological examination disclosed myoclonic jerks. Neuropsychological assessment demonstrated impaired executive function, attention, and narrowed lexical fluency. Measles IgG antibody was high in the cerebrospinal fluid (>230.0 U/ml). Brain magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated bilateral, non-specific, small foci of T2 hyperintensity in the frontoparietal subcortical white matter and centrum semiovale. The present case is the first where OCTA findings of SSPE-related retinal lesions have been described.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate prediabetic patients for microvascular changes using optical coherence tomography-angiography (OCT-A) and compare with diabetic patients and healthy controls. METHODS: OCT-A images of 60 eyes of 30 patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), 72 eyes of 36 prediabetic patients, and 108 eyes of 54 healthy controls were retrospectively evaluated and compared in this study. A swept-source OCTA (Triton, Topcon) instrument was used for collecting OCT-A images. Duration of the diabetic or prediabetic period, glycated hemoglobin, fasting blood glucose level, postprandial glucose (PPG) level, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride, and creatinine values of all participants were recorded. RESULTS: Microaneurysm, nonperfusion areas, perifoveal capillary disruption, and capillary network disorganization were detected in both prediabetics and diabetics but statistically more common in diabetic patients. Neovascularization and intraretinal microvascular anomalies were detected only in diabetic patients. CONCLUSIONS: OCT-A seemed to be effective in detecting microvascular changes in diabetic patients. More importantly, results showed us that in prediabetic patients, microvascular changes can be seen before the onset of DM and before or concurrently with neurodegenerative changes.

BACKROUND: Optic neuritis(ON) is a common feature of both relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis(RRMS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders(NMOSD). It is crucial to early differentiate these two diseases, as they differ in pathophysiology and treatment. OBJECTIVE: To compare NMOSD and RRMS patients using optical coherence tomography(OCT) and OCT angiography(OCTA) to assess retinal microvascular network differences. METHODS: Fourteen RRMS (28 eyes) and 9 NMOSD patients(18 eyes), and 11 controls were enrolled. Seropositivity for aquaporin-4 antibody (anti-AQP4 Abs) was 44.4%. Peripapillary and macular retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) thickness, superficial peripapillary and macular vessel density(VD), area, perimeter and circularity of foveal avascular zone(FAZ) were analyzed. RESULTS: OCTA showed reduction in peripapillary and macular VD and FAZ size in NMOSD+ON compared to RRMS+ON and controls (p = 0.001, p<0.001 and p = 0.010, p<0.001 respectively). Peripapillary VD was similar in RRMS +ON and controls. Peripapillary VD in monophasic seronegative NMOSD+ON eyes was significantly lower than monophasic RRMS+ON eyes (p = 0.030), which was no different from controls. FAZ area was smaller in unaffected eyes in NMOSD than RRMS and controls. CONCLUSIONS: Both OCT and OCTA revealed considerable differences between RRMS and NMOSD patients, providing promising results in favor of clinical utility of OCTA in differential diagnosis of ON, particularly in anti-AQP4 antibody negative patients. OCTA might be a useful biomarker in differentiating NMOSD from MS.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the distance, intermediate, and near visual performance of a new IOL (ICB00, Eyhance, Tecnis) and classic monofocal IOL (SN60WF IQ AcrySof, Alcon) after unilateral implantation. METHODS: Sixty-three patients were unilaterally implanted with the ICB00 Eyhance IOL (study group) and 65 patients with the SN60WF IQ AcrySof (control group). Visual performance was assessed with monocular corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) at 4 m, corrected intermediate visual acuity (CIVA) and uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) at 60 cm, and corrected near visual acuity (CNVA) and uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) at 40 cm. RESULTS: CDVA, UDVA, CNVA, and UNVA values did not differ significantly between the study and control groups (0.02 ± 0.02 vs. 0.03 ± 0.02, p = 0.523; 0.05 ± 0.13 vs. 0.05 ± 0.15, p = 0.637; 0.46 ± 0.17 vs. 0.46 ± 0.15, p = 0.821; and 0.47 ± 0.21 vs. 0.49 ± 0.25, p = 0.612; respectively), whereas the study group showed significantly better results for CIVA (0.28 ± 0.12 vs. 0.38 ± 0.13, p = 0.001) and UIVA (0.31 ± 0.16 vs. 0.41 ± 0.12, p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The Eyhance IOL, which features a new optical design based on a continuous power profile, was determined to be superior to a classic monofocal IOL for intermediate visual acuity and not inferior for corrected and uncorrected distance and near visual acuity.

OBJECTIVE: Development of postoperative scars is often a problem. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of gel containing Allium cepa extract, allantoin and heparin (Contractubex, Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH, Frankfurt, Germany) in reducing scarring after a caesarean section by comparing it with a control group, and also intra-individually, using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS). METHOD: A total of 120 patients who underwent a second elective caesarean delivery and who presented with hypertrophic scar development after their first caesarean section were included in the study. A scar revision was performed for all patients during the second caesarean operation. Patients in the study group (n=60) were advised to apply the topical scar gel postoperatively for a period of 6 months. The control group (n=60) received no treatment. RESULTS: Significant reductions were observed in the vascularity, pigmentation and height subgroups of the VSS for those in the group who continued the treatment to 24 weeks. An intra-individual analysis showed that the gel effectively reduced scarring after the second caesarean section. CONCLUSION: The prophylactic use of the gel to reduce scar development offers better results for vascularity, pigmentation and height subscales of the VSS after surgical removal of the primary caesarean scar during the second caesarean section. The results were better both intra-individually, and also in comparison with the control group and support the use of a gel containing Allium cepa extract, allantoin and heparin to reduce scarring after a caesarean section.

Objective: To describe the favorable clinical outcome in a case with bilateral choroidal neovascular membrane and quiescent Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) syndrome by administering bilateral intravitreal aflibercept injections. Case report: A 30-year-old woman was diagnosed with VKH syndrome at another institution and had been in remission with oral mycophenolate mofetil for two years. However, nearly simultaneous right juxtafoveal and left subfoveal type 2 choroidal neovascular membrane was detected two years after the initial diagnosis. The right eye (OD) received three and the left eye (OS) received four aflibercept injections within a time span of eight months. Visual acuity was 20/30 in OD and 20/25 in OS at the last follow-up visit. Conclusion: Although suppression of inflammation is a must in eyes with inflammatory type choroidal neovascular membranes, anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) therapy with agents, such as aflibercept in the present case, is a key therapeutic adjunct and may possibly help improve the visual prognosis.

PURPOSE: To investigate the correlation between corneal involvement and anterior chamber flare using a laser flare meter in eyes with epidemic keratoconjunctivitis. METHODS: A total of 82 eyes of 50 (32 female and 18 male) consecutive patients with epidemic keratoconjuctivitis were evaluated. Besides complete opthalmic examination, anterior chamber flare measurements with laser flare meter (FM 600, Kowa, Kowa Company Ltd., Nagoya, Japan) were performed. The relationship between corneal involvement, subepithelial deposits, and anterior chamber flare was assessed. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 36.32 ± 18.77 (range 4-75) years and the mean duration of complaints was 5.28 ± 2.65 (range 1-12) days. The biomicroscopic findings were conjunctival hyperemia in 82 (100%), follicular reaction in 66 (80.5%), eyelid edema in 56 (68.3%), punctate epitheliopathy in 38 (46.3%), and subepithelial deposits in 36 (43.9%) eyes. The mean flare value was 17.35 ± 12.62 (range 2.0-45.0) photons/ms. Flare measurements were significantly higher in eyes with subepithelial deposits (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Subepithelial deposits seem to occur in eyes with higher anterior chamber inflammation in epidemic keratoconjunctivitis. The laser flare meter might be a useful tool to predict subepithelial deposit development in these patients.

Purpose. Age related macular degeneration (ARMD) remains a serious cause of vision loss in elderly people worldwide. The purpose of the study is to investigate the fellow eye of the patients with exudative ARMD using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods. We conducted a retrospective study from the data of patients with exudative ARMD. Patients undergoing intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment for one eye were selected. OCTA images of both eyes with choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and the fellow eyes were evaluated retrospectively. Midchoroid, choriocapillaris (CC), retina pigment epithelium (RPE), and outer retina levels were evaluated using RTVue XR AVANTI OCTA. Results. There were 5 male and 5 female patients included in this study. We detected drusen and pigment epithelial detachments (PED) in fellow eyes. Six fellow eyes had vascularized PED. Four of them were acute flat irregular type; two of them were chronic dome shaped type. Four patients had soft drusen that had shown signal loss on choriocapillaris level. Conclusion. The follow-up of both eyes of the patients with ARMD is very important. OCTA seems a promising non-invasive method in order to detect subclinical early stage CNV and distinguish among types of PEDs.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of idiopathic infantile nystagmus (IN) and bilateral ametropic amblyopia on metabolites in the occipital cortex by magnetic resonance spectroscopy. METHODS: The children included in this prospective study were divided into three groups. Group 1 consisted of 11 patients with idiopathic IN, group 2 consisted of 10 patients with bilateral ametropic amblyopia and group 3 consisted of nine normal children. A single-voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy examination was performed by placing a region of interest on the occipital cortex of each participant. N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), creatine (Cr) and choline (Cho) concentrations were measured in the occipital cortex. This was followed by calculating and comparing the NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr ratios between the three groups. The Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference in NAA/Cr ratios between patients with idiopathic IN and normal children, but there was a statistically significant difference between these groups when Cho/Cr ratios were compared; the ratio was higher in the idiopathic IN group. There were no statistically significant differences in NAA/Cr or Cho/Cr ratios between patients with bilateral ametropic amblyopia and normal children. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the neurochemical profile of the occipital cortex is partially affected by idiopathic IN, but not by bilateral ametropic amblyopia.

In this paper, we present our research study concerning the design and development of an exoskeleton that aims to provide 3D walking support with minimum number of actuators. Following a prior simulation study, the joint configuration was primarily determined. In order for the exoskeleton to possess advanced characteristics, the following design criteria were investigated: i) all the actuators (hip/knee/ankle) were deployed around the waist area to decrease leg weight and improve wearability, ii) custom-built series elastic actuators were used to power system for high fidelity torque-controllability, iii) 3D walking support is potentially enabled with reduced power requirements. As a result, we built the first actual prototype to experimentally verify the aforementioned design specifications. Furthermore, the preliminary torque control experiments indicated the viability of torque control.

PURPOSE: Retinal vasculitis and vein occlusions are common causes of serious visual loss in Behçet's disease. We aimed to evaluate the optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings of Behcet uveitis (BU) patients. METHODS: We evaluated 32 eyes of 16 patients with BU and 30 eyes of 15 healthy controls. Superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deeper capillary plexuses (DCP) were evaluated using OCTA RTVue XR AVANTI. RESULTS: On SCP, nonperfusion/hypoperfusion areas (NPA) were seen in 10 eyes, perifoveal capillary arcade disruption (PCAD) was seen in 10 eyes, capillary network disorganization (CND) was seen in 7 eyes and intraretinal cystoid spaces (ICS) were seen in 2 eyes. On DCP, NPA were seen in 13 eyes, PCAD was seen in 11 eyes, CND was seen in 7 eyes and ICS were seen in 4 eyes. CONCLUSION: We showed that DCP were affected more than SCP in these patients. In addition, capillary vessel density of BU group was significantly lower than control group.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of intrauterine insemination (IUI) on sexual functioning, quality of life and psychological well-being. METHODS: One hundred and thirty four infertile women going to IUI treatment as study group and 134 women who do not report any infertility complaint attending to gynecology clinic for routine control as control group were enrolled. Demographic data of the patients were collected. Patients were asked to complete Female Sexual Functioning Index (FSFI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and SF 36 form. RESULTS: Total FSFI score (mean±SD) for study group was 23.4±4.1 and 24.8±3.4 for control group (p<0.05). This means a lower sexual function for patients going to IUI. There were also statistically significant differences according to subscales of FSFI scores for sexual desire, arousal and satisfaction. Mean±SD scores for Beck Depression Inventory analysis was 18.6±9.8 for study group and 18.5±7.1 for control group. According to SF-36 scores, there were statistically significant differences between the groups for four subscales: Role physical,bodily pain,general health and vitality. CONCLUSIONS: Going to an IUI treatment has negative effects on FSFI scores and some of SF 36 scores but we did not find a significant negative effect on BDI scores.

OBJECTIVE: To compare obstetric and perinatal outcomes of Syrian refugee pregnants and Turkish counterparts who gave birth at a tertiary center in Istanbul. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study including the birth records of 704 Syrian refugees and 744 Turkish pregnant women between January 2016 and May 2017 were analyzed. Demographic data, obstetric and neonatal outcomes were compared. The primary aims of this study were to evaluate the pregnancy outcomes and cesarean rates between the groups. The secondary outcomes were the use of antenatal vitamin supplementation, hemoglobin-hematocrit values, and maternal complications. RESULTS: Our results showed that the use of folic acid and iron supplementation rates during pregnancy were similar between the groups (folic acid supplementation 8.1% vs 6.5%, p=0.264; iron supplementation 20.7% vs 19.6%, p=0.125; respectively for Turkish women and Syrian refugees). Cesarean rates were significantly higher for Turkish patients than in Syrian refugees (42.7% vs 32.7%; p<0.05). Gestational age at delivery was significantly higher among Turkish women when compared with Syrian refugees (37.7±2.3 vs 36.4±2.3 weeks, p<0.05), but there was no significant difference regarding the birtweights' of the newborns (3134 g vs 3066 g for Turkish women and Syrian refugees, respectively, p=0.105). Although obstetric complications were seen more often in Syrian refugees, it did not reach statistical difference (9.7% vs 8.1%, respectively, p=0.285). CONCLUSION: Syrian refugees use antenatal vitamin supplementations at similar rates to Turkish citizens and obstetric and perinatal outcomes are similar between the groups.

The aim of the study was to assess the standard foetal biometric measurements and foetal liver volume (FLV) in pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) at the time of GDM screening and to compare the results with foetuses in normal pregnancies. Ninety-seven pregnant women with normal singleton uncomplicated pregnancies between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation were allocated into GDM (+) (n: 33) and GDM (-) (n: 64) groups based on their 75 g oral glucose tolerance test results. Foetal biometric measurements and FLV measurements of the groups were compared. Although there were no significant differences in the standard biometric measurements between the two groups, FLV was significantly higher in the women with GDM (p < .01). The ROC analysis implied that with a cut-off value of FLV of 32.72 cm3 for GDM prediction, the sensitivity was 78.8% and specificity was 56.3%. We suggest that FLV measurements during the second-trimester ultrasound scanning may be a tool for the prediction of GDM in the obstetric population. Impact statement What is already known on this subject? GDM is an important pregnancy disease, because of its possible foetal and maternal complications. Besides the standard biometric measurements, some other foetal body dimensions such as the anterior abdominal wall thickness, skinfold thickness, adipose tissue thickness, Wharton's jelly thickness, foetal liver length and foetal liver volume (FLV) have been evaluated as ultrasound parameters of glycaemic control. While the evaluation of foetal liver dimensions has a role in identifying foetal growth acceleration, previous studies addressed patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus rather than gestational diabetes mellitus, utilised two-dimensional ultrasound and did not argue the diagnostic value of these findings. What do the results of this study add? In our study, besides the standard biometric measurements, the FLV measurements were evaluated by a three-dimensional ultrasound. Although there were no significant differences in the standard biometric measurements between the GDM (+) and GDM (-) groups, the FLV was significantly higher in women with GDM. The FLV was found to be a potential predictive factor for GDM. The ROC analysis implied that as a cut-off value of FLV of 32.72 cm3 for GDM prediction, the sensitivity was 78.8% and the specificity was 56.3%. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practise and/or further research? Screening for GDM with oral glucose tolerance test within the limited weeks of gestation may not always be feasible. On the other hand, the mid-trimester ultrasound scanning is done almost in all pregnancies. Accordingly, FLV measurement might be an alternative method for the GDM diagnosis.

PURPOSE: Corneal hysteresis (CH) and corneal resistance factor (CRF) are corneal biomechanical parameters which were measured by ocular response analyzer (ORA). Aim of this study was to define the CH and CRF in high myopic and hyperopic patients and compare the results with emmetropic control group. METHODS: A total of 193 eyes of 100 healthy volunteers were included. Study groups were high myopic patients (n = 27) with spherical refractive errors (SRE) of greater than -5.00D, high hyperopic patients (n = 20) with SRE of greater than +3.00D and controls (n = 53) with SRE between ± 1.00D. All subjects underwent IOP and corneal biomechanical evaluation with the ORA. Also Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT), central corneal thickness (CCT), corneal curvature and axial length measurements were taken. RESULTS: Mean age of groups was 30.7 ± 6.9, 29.1 ± 7.7, 28.9 ± 5.6 years (p > 0.05). Among study groups except CRF and CCT, all parameters were significantly different between study groups. CH was lowest in the high myopic group and highest in the high hyperopia. In all groups, there were significant correlations between CH and CRF, CCT, SRE, SE (spherical equivalent), AL (axial length) and between CRF and CCT. GAT and IOPg (Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure) measurements were significantly correlated with CCT (p < 0.05). One of the major findings was as the CH approaches 11.2 mmHg, IOPcc (corneal-compensated intraocular pressure) and IOPg get close to each other. CONCLUSIONS: The results revealed that CRF is not affected by refractive errors and IOPcc is not affected by any other ocular parameter. The difference between IOPcc and IOPg was greatest in myopic group, and IOP (intraocular pressure) measurement in these patients deserves high suspicion.

OBJECTIVES: Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. It is primarily a disease of premature neonates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of maternal betamethasone administration on the fetal pulmonary arteries (PAs) and umbilical arteries (UAs) and the correlation between RDS development and PA Doppler results. METHODS: Forty singleton pregnancies between 24 and 34 gestational weeks with a diagnosis of preterm birth were included prospectively. They received corticosteroids to enhance fetal lung maturity. Fetal PA and UA Doppler parameters were evaluated before and 48 to 72 hours after steroid administration. Maternal records were matched to neonatal charts, and demographic and outcome data were abstracted. RESULTS: There were no differences between groups for maternal age, body mass index, mode of delivery, and mean GA at steroid administration. Apgar scores at 1 and 5 minutes were significantly lower for neonates who developed RDS (P < .05). There were no statistically significant differences in PA Doppler results between fetuses who developed RDS and those who did not, and there were no significant differences in PA Doppler results before and after steroid administration for both groups. The UA pulsatility and resistive indices were significantly lower after steroid administration for the neonates who developed RDS (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: There were no significant differences in PA Doppler indices for fetuses with or without RDS after steroid administration.

INTRODUCTION: Cold Knife Conization (CKC) is one of the most effective methods for the treatment of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN). Some studies showed a relation between preterm birth and the treatment of CIN; on the other hand, other studies do not show such a relationship. AIM: The present study was conducted with the aim to investigate the pregnancy outcomes of Turkish women regarding demographic characteristics, obstetric history, removed tissue, and residual cervical length after CKC and to determine the effect of removed cervical tissue volume and height on preterm birth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was a population-based, multicenter trial that was conducted on singleton pregnancies between January 2007 and December 2013. The control group comprised of 38,892 patients who gave birth during this period. On the other hand, patients who conceived after CKC during this period were invited to the hospital and included in the case group (n=20). The course of pregnancy following CKC was studied. Preterm birth rates, risk factors for preterm birth, conisation age, cervical smear and colposcopic biopsy results and the volume and height of the removed cervical tissue of those patients were evaluated. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference in preterm birth rates between the case and the control groups. None of our cases had any identified preterm birth risk factor except for one case. The average height of removed cervical tissue was 12.6±5.4 mm and the average length of the residual cervix after birth was 28.7±4.3 mm. CONCLUSION: Removal of cervical tissue of 12.6±5.4 mm in height and 2.35±2.27 cm3 in volume will not increase the risk of preterm birth of women who do not have any other preterm birth risk factors. If there is no other preterm birth risk factors, term birth is most probably possible after conisation.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the alterations in mean central choroidal, central macular, and disk retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) during Valsalva maneuver among patients with high refractive errors. METHODS: A total of 60 high myopic (≥-6.0 D) and 50 high hyperopic (≥ + 3.0 D) eyes of 58 patients aged 19-65 years with visual acuity of 20/20 and without any ophthalmologic or systemic diseases were evaluated by OCT before and after the Valsalva maneuver. The choroidal thickness was measured with enhanced depth imaging OCT method. Central macular thickness, disk RNFL thickness, and axial length were also assessed. RESULTS: Mean choroidal thickness increased significantly from 275.0 ± 27.2 µm at rest to 279.8 ± 31.6 µm after Valsalva maneuver in high myopic patients, and from 308.2 ± 27.3 µm to 313.6 ± 28.5 µm in high hyperopic patients (p<0.01 for each). A significant negative correlation of the choroidal thickness was noted with axial length (r = -0.509, p<0.01) and age (r = -0.224, p = 0.01) in the overall study population. Mean central macular thickness was 242.9 ± 44.4 µm and 254.0 ± 22.8 µm, while mean disk RNFL thickness was 81.6 ± 12.4 µm and 98.4 ± 13.3 µm in high myopic and hyperopic patients, respectively. Valsalva maneuver was not associated with significant change in central macular or disk RNFL thickness. CONCLUSIONS: Significant association of Valsalva maneuver with an increase in choroidal thickness was noted among patients with high degree of myopia and hyperopia. Our findings emphasize the likelihood of increase in choroidal volume due to venous distension to be responsible for the increase observed in choroidal thickness after Valsalva maneuver.
