BACKGROUND: Increasing countries are expanding the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to men, which has not yet been licensed in China. This study investigated the parental willingness to accept (WTA) and pay (WTP) HPV vaccine for their sons aged 9-14. METHODS: In Shanghai, a metropolis area of China, parents with boys aged 9-14 were recruited to complete an online questionnaire using a convenience sampling strategy. Parental WTA were determined for parents themselves and for their sons. Parental preference of HPV vaccine was measured using discrete choice experiment in two assumed government subsidy scenarios that referred to HPV vaccination subsidy mechanisms for girls in China. Additionally, parental WTP was estimated using contingent valuation method. RESULTS: A total of 2493 parents with boys aged 9-14 were included in the study. Majority of mothers (88.99 % and 90.99 %) and fathers (79.57 % and 85.04 %) showed WTA HPV vaccine for themselves and sons, respectively. Parental gender, age, monthly household income, knowledge, and awareness were positively associated with parental WTA for their sons (each P < 0.05). Remarkably, more mothers showed specific preference of HPV vaccine for themselves (53.67 %) and sons (47.78 %), while more fathers showed no preference for themselves (46.76 %) and sons (53.81 %). In the two assumed government subsidy scenarios, parents mostly preferred domestic HPV vaccines for themselves and sons (each P < 0.05). Additionally, mothers had significantly higher WTP for sons (mean value, 2122.75 CNY) than fathers did (1695.40 CNY) (P < 0.001). However, parental WTP was similar between for themselves and for sons, regardless of mothers and fathers (each P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Parents have high WTA and WTP HPV vaccine for boys aged 9-14 in Shanghai, which may provide evidence for preparing HPV vaccination strategy. Acceptance of HPV vaccines and roll-out in boys could be enhanced through the availability of government subsidy mechanism and domestic HPV vaccines.

The class-selective molecular-imprinted polymers (MIPs) have shown the recognition ability to multiple targeted molecules through using one or multiple templates. However, choosing the right templates, the core problem, still lacks a systemic guide and decision-making. In this work, we propose a strategy of selecting templates through expanding the recognition width for the improvement of class-selectivity. First, three families of genotoxic impurity (GTI) were selected as model objects, and the spatial size and binding energy of each GTI-monomer complexes were obtained and compared by computational simulation. The two indexes of energy width (WE) and size width (WL) were introduced to compare the similarity and differences on the two recognition factors, binding strength and spatial size, among these GTIs in each family. Through shortening the width to increase similarity on binding energy and size, the dual templates in the aromatic amines (AI) family and sulfonic acid esters (SI) family were successfully selected. Correspondingly, the prepared dual-template MIPs in the two GTI families can simultaneously recognize all the GTIs comparing with that of single template MIP, respectively. Meanwhile, through comparing the adsorption capacity of the selected template and its analogues in one GTI family, the recognition efficiency of the dual-template MIPs was higher than that of the single-template MIP. This indicates that though using the selected right templates, the higher class-selectivity and the larger recognition width can be realized. Thus, this work can solve the problem of blind template selection, and provide the useful theoretical guidance for designing family-selective molecular imprinting.

Introduction: Adolescence represents a pivotal stage in the development of healthy behaviors, where establishing positive physical activity habits can have enduring effects on an individual's overall wellbeing. The ecological model highlights the influence of environmental factors on human behavior, with the family environment playing a significant role in shaping the physical activity habits of adolescents. Methods: The aim of this scale is to develop a reliable and effective tool, customized for the unique societal context of China, to assess how family factors influence the physical activity habits of Chinese adolescents. Participants were recruited through stratified cluster sampling from 24 secondary schools in six Chinese provinces between October and November 2021, resulting in 1,061 participants. Analysis was conducted on 1,004 valid questionnaires, divided into two samples. Sample 1, consisting of 502 students (248 males and 254 females; Mage = 15.5), underwent item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. Sample 2, comprising 502 students (267 males and 235 females; Mage = 16.5), underwent confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency reliability analysis. Results: Through exploratory factor analysis, we extracted three factors comprising 15 items: "Family Environment Construction" (4 items), "Family Action Support" (6 items), and "Family Health Awareness" (5 items). The Cronbach's alpha values for these factors ranged from 0.890 to 0.894. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed a satisfactory model fit (CMIN/DF = 1.45, SRMR = 0.027, GFI = 0.991, TLI = 0.989, RMSEA = 0.03). Discussion: The scale demonstrated strong internal consistency and test-retest reliability, confirming its effectiveness in empirical research. This study holds significant implications for enhancing the physical activity levels of adolescents, promoting their physical and mental wellbeing, enriching their developmental experiences, and contributing to their overall sense of happiness.

To ensure drug safety, the quality monitoring of genotoxic impurities (GTIs) which have very trace content in medicine is important. Therefore, it should be established an efficient sample pretreatment method to extract GTIs to achieve specific enrichment. In this work, dummy template molecular imprinting technology (DMIT) was used as dummy template molecule (DTM) to substitute for the target molecule (TM) for established the pretreatment of the sample containing aromatic amine GTIs. A novel strategy for screening out DTM by calculation of computer simulation is established, where the binding energy between the template and functional monomer has the relatively lowest value (-9.60 kcal/mol). Then dummy template molecular imprinted polymer (DMIP) was prepared by bulk polymerization according to the molar ratio of template molecule-functional monomer-crosslinker = 1:4:8, the prepared DMIP exhibited the highest adsorption (Q = 8.6 mg/g) and good blotting effect (IF = 1.3) and can simultaneously adsorb three aromatic amine GTIs. The optimal adsorption conditions were obtained by conditional optimization of solid phase extraction (SPE). The solution of pH 7 was chosen as the loading condition, and methanol/acetic acid (90:10, v/v) was chosen as the elution condition. Finally, we determined 2, 6-dichloroaniline in diclofenac sodium at a 5 ppm level and p-toluidine as the TMs in torasemide sample at 10 ppm by using DMIT-based solid phase extraction and analysis by HPLC, it satisfied the quality control of GTIs in pharmaceutics. DMIT by this strategy has great potential in the sample preparation of GTIs.

Globally, above 1.4 billion adults did not reach the recommended level of physical education in their daily life, thus triple intendent reforms are proposed by the Ministry of Physical Education for the development of sporting leadership in schools, colleges, and universities, which are essentially important for the development of physical and mental health of the students. This article analyzes the situation of lacking sustainable sporting leadership among other factors related to Physical Education (PE) resources in the southern areas of Ningxia. A mixed and multi-method approach was adopted to conduct the study. First, an in-depth but an open-ended qualitative interview with the professionals was carried out, followed by cross-sectional data collected from the respondents in two districts of the southern mountainous area of Ningxia. Moreover, a case study was included to support the phenomenon from a contextual perspective. The study present that PE education needs a modernization and rejuvenation plan to link with PE development and its sustainable execution and implementation for the physical and mental development of the learners. Moreover, it is suggested to strengthen the development of physical education with/through the fields of regional integration of educational resources sharing, cultural elements and integration, latest technological tools, research-based and cultural supported curriculum, and endogenous strength construction to promote the development of school physical education. Furthermore, continuous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms need to be adopted to develop physical education in the region.

BACKGROUND: Previous research found associations between neuropsychiatric disorders and patterns of highly connected "hub" nodes, which are crucial in coordinating brain functions. Melancholic depression is considered a relatively distinct and homogenous subtype of major depressive disorder (MDD), which responds better to pharmacological treatments than placebos or psychotherapies. Accordingly, melancholic depression probably has distinct neuropathological underpinnings. This study aims to examine the overlapping and segregated changes of functional hubs in melancholic and non-melancholic MDD. METHODS: Thirty-one melancholic patients, 28 non-melancholic patients, and 32 healthy controls were included. Resting-state functional imaging data were analyzed using global functional connectivity. RESULTS: Both melancholic and non-melancholic patients had increased GFC in the bilateral insula and decreased GFC in the PCC/precuneus compared to HCs. The distinction was that melancholic patients showed increased GFC in the bilateral thalamus, right inferior parietal lobule (IPL), and left cerebellum Crus I and decreased GFC in the left temporal lobe, whereas non-melancholic patients showed increased GFC in the left superior parietal lobe. Additionally, compared with non-melancholic patients, melancholic individuals displayed significant increases of GFC in the left IPL and cerebellum. CONCLUSION: Increased GFC of the insula and decreased GFC of the PCC and precuneus are the common abnormalities of melancholic and non-melancholic MDD. Hyperconnectivity of the IPL and cerebellum might be distinctive neuropathological features of melancholic MDD.

Objective: Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are prominent in major depressive disorder (MDD) and bring patients lots of complaints and troubles. We aimed to explore whether there were some distinctive brain image alterations in MDD with GI symptoms, which could be used to distinguish MDD with GI symptoms from those without GI symptoms and healthy controls (HCs). Methods: A total of 35 outpatients with GI symptoms, 17 outpatients without GI symptoms, and 28 HCs were recruited. All the participants were scanned by a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Imaging data were analyzed with the global functional connectivity (GFC) and support vector machine methods. Results: MDD with GI symptoms showed decreased GFC in the left superior medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) compared with MDD without GI symptoms. Compared with HCs, MDD with GI symptoms showed decreased GFC in the bilateral middle temporal pole (MTP) and left posterior cingulate cortex/precuneus (PCC/Pcu), and increased GFC in the right insula and bilateral thalamus. SVM analysis showed that an accuracy was 78.85% in differentiating MDD with GI symptoms from MDD without GI symptoms by using the GFC of the left superior MPFC. A combination of GFC of the left PCC/Pcu and bilateral MTP exhibited the highest accuracy (87.30%) in differentiating patients with MDD with GI symptoms from HCs. Conclusion: MDD with GI symptoms showed abnormal GFC in multiple networks, including the default mode network and cortico-limbic mood-regulating circuit. Using abnormal GFC might work well to discriminate MDD with GI symptoms from MDD without GI symptoms and HCs.

Background: The role of leucine in sarcopenia prevention remains unclear. We aimed to summarize the published data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to estimate the effect of leucine supplementation on sarcopenia-related measures in older adults. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using the electronic databases PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science with restriction to randomized controlled trials design from January 1, 2009 to March 19, 2022. Sarcopenia-related measures included handgrip strength, total lean mass, gait speed, leg press, 6-min walk test, short-physical performance battery, timed up-and-go test and 30-s chair-stand test. Fixed- and random-effects meta-analysis models were used to generate pooled weighted mean differences (WMDs) and 95% CIs. Heterogeneity was examined in subgroup and sensitivity analyses. Publication bias assessments were performed. Results: A total of 17 RCTs enrolling 1418 subjects were identified. Leucine-isolated supplementation showed no effect on total lean mass (WMD = 0.03 kg, 95% CI: -0.51, 0.57, P = 0.917), handgrip strength (WMD = 1.23 kg, 95% CI: -0.58, 3.03, P = 0.183) and leg press (WMD = -1.35 kg, 95% CI: -7.46, 4.77, P = 0.666). However, leucine-combined supplementation including vitamin D showed a significant improvement in handgrip strength (WMD = 2.17 kg, 95% CI: 0.24, 4.10, P = 0.027) and gait speed (WMD = 0.03 m/s, 95% CI: 0.01, 0.05, P = 0.008). Conclusion: Leucine-isolated supplementation did not improve muscle mass and strength in elderly. However, leucine-combined supplementation including vitamin D exhibited a significant benefit for muscle strength and performance including handgrip strength and gait speed in older adults. A combination of nutritional supplements would be a viable option for improving sarcopenia.

Background: Aggression is common among individuals with methamphetamine use disorder (MAUD) and constitutes a serious public health issue. The current study aimed to examine associations of methamphetamine-use characteristics and childhood trauma with aggression in men with MAUD. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2017 to August 2018. MAUD patients recruited from a compulsory drug rehabilitation center (n = 360) and healthy comparison subjects (n = 604) completed a survey that measured aggression and childhood trauma, using the Chinese version of Buss-Perry Aggressive Questionnaire (AQ-CV), and the short form of Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-SF), respectively. MAUD patients also provided information on methamphetamine-use characteristics such as the age of MAUD onset, MAUD severity, and co-occurring alcohol use disorder (AUD) and tobacco use disorder (TUD) using standard or self-designed questionnaires. Chi-square tests and t-tests were used to compare childhood trauma and aggression between the MAUD and comparison groups. Multiple linear regressions were conducted to determine correlates of overall aggression and its five sub-scales among the MAUD group. Results: The MAUD group had higher childhood trauma and aggression scores than the comparison group. Within the MAUD group, age of MAUD onset, having severe MAUD, co-occurring AUD, co-occurring TUD, and childhood trauma were associated with overall aggression, with slightly different correlates found for its five sub-scales. Conclusions: Our study shows a high level of childhood trauma and aggression in the MAUD group. Both methamphetamine-use characteristics (age of MAUD onset, severe MAUD, co-occurring AUD/TUD) and childhood trauma were associated with aggression in MAUD. Our findings provide useful information on potential risk factors for aggression and inform future longitudinal research to establish causal relationships between these factors and aggression to guide further prevention and treatment programs.

Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are one of the common somatic symptoms presented in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Higher frequency of GI symptoms and higher GI symptom burden were linked to greater depression severity and increased risk of suicide ideation. However, few studies have explored the underlying mechanisms of GI symptoms in MDD. Based on previous studies, the cerebellar-DMN circuits may play a potentially critical role in GI symptoms comorbid with depression. Fifty-two first-episode drug-naive patients with MDD (35 with GI symptoms and 17 without GI symptoms) and 28 matched healthy controls were recruited in the current study and underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scan. Cerebellar seed-based functional connectivity maps were established. Relative to depressed patients without GI symptoms, significantly increased cerebellar-anterior default mode network (DMN) connectivities were found in those with GI symptoms. Both increased and decreased functional connectivities were found between cerebellum and posterior DMN in patients with GI symptoms compared with those without GI symptoms and healthy controls. Moreover, the right Crus I - right superior temporal gyrus connectivity value was related to severity of GI symptoms and depression in all patients with MDD. The support vector machine analysis demonstrated a satisfactory classification accuracy (89%) of the disrupted cerebellar-DMN connectivities for correctly identifying MDD patients with GI symptoms. These results revealed the possible neural mechanisms for the involvement of cerebellar-DMN circuits in GI symptoms co-occurred with MDD.

Objective: Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are fairly common somatic symptoms in depressed patients. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of concomitant GI symptoms on the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) patterns in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and investigate the connection between aberrant fALFF and clinical characteristics. Methods: This study included 35 MDD patients with GI symptoms (GI-MDD patients), 17 MDD patients without GI symptoms (nGI-MDD patients), and 28 healthy controls (HCs). The fALFF method was used to analyze the resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data. Correlation analysis and pattern classification were employed to investigate the relationship of the fALFF patterns with the clinical characteristics of patients. Results: GI-MDD patients exhibited higher scores in the HRSD-17 and suffered more severe insomnia, anxiety/somatization, and weight loss than nGI-MDD patients. GI-MDD patients showed higher fALFF in the right superior frontal gyrus (SFG)/middle frontal gyrus (MFG) and lower fALFF in the left superior medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) compared with nGI-MDD patients. A combination of the fALFF values of these two clusters could be applied to discriminate GI-MDD patients from nGI-MDD patients, with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 86.54, 94.29, and 70.59%, respectively. Conclusion: GI-MDD patients showed more severe depressive symptoms. Increased fALFF in the right SFG/MFG and decreased fALFF in the left superior MPFC might be distinctive neurobiological features of MDD patients with GI symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: Disrupted brain functional asymmetry has been reported in major depressive disorder (MDD). The comorbidity may be a crucial factor to this functional asymmetry. It is quite common that gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are comorbid with MDD, but limited evidence focuses on the effect of GI comorbidity on the neuropathology of MDD from a functional lateralization perspective. METHODS: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging was obtained in 28 healthy controls (HCs), 35 MDD patients with GI symptoms (GI-MDD patients), and 17 patients with MDD without GI symptoms (nGI-MDD patients). The parameter of asymmetry (PAS) was used to analyze the imaging data and evaluate the changes of functional asymmetry. RESULTS: The GI-MDD patients showed increased PAS scores in the left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and superior medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) and decreased PAS scores in the right postcentral gyrus in comparison with nGI-MDD patients. The PAS scores of the left IFG and left superior MPFC were correlated with the severity of GI problems and could be applied to distinguish GI-MDD patients from nGI-MDD patients with an accuracy, a sensitivity, and a specificity of 92.31, 100, and 76.47%, respectively. Furthermore, GI-MDD and nGI-MDD patients both displayed increased PAS scores in the PCC/precuneus. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed the influence of concomitant GI symptoms on functional asymmetry in MDD patients. Increased PAS scores of the left IFG and superior MPFC might represent an unbalanced regulation of brain over GI function and had the potential to be regarded as distinctive features related to functional GI symptoms in MDD.

Methamphetamine (MA) is a potent stimulant and notoriously addictive. Individuals respond to MA effects differently and thus have a varying susceptible risk of developing MA use disorder. Cumulative evidence has indicated that gut dysbiosis contributes to behavioral response to drug effects. However, the role of gut microbiota in the susceptible risk of developing MA use disorder has remained elusive. Using an MA-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) rat model, we administrated the same dose of MA to rats, which then showed distinct preferences in drug-related place, indicating their different responses to MA. From all of the MA-exposed rats, the eight with the highest CPP scores were labeled as group high CPP (H-CPP), and the eight with the lowest were labeled as group low CPP (L-CPP). By 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequencing, we found that the gut microbiota compositions differed between H-CPP and L-CPP. Specifically, Akkermansia was significantly higher in H-CPP and positively correlated with the CPP scores. Notably, H-CPP and L-CPP differed in the gut microbiota composition prior to the CPP training; Ruminococcus was the dominant phylotype in H-CPP at baseline. More importantly, rats pretreated by antibiotics showed a significantly stronger MA-induced CPP than did the controls. Our study demonstrates that the gut dysbiosis was associated with the MA-induced CPP, indicating that the gut microbiota might be important modulators for MA-induced behavior and vulnerability to MA use disorder.

Compared with the ripeness of olefin metathesis, exploration of the construction of carbon-carbon double bonds through the catalytic carbonyl-olefin metathesis reaction remains stagnant and has received scant attention. Herein, a highly efficient AuCl3 -catalyzed intramolecular ring-closing carbonyl-olefin metathesis reaction is described. This method features easily accessible starting materials, simple operation, good functional-group tolerance and short reaction times, and provides the target cyclopentenes, polycycles, benzocarbocycles, and N-heterocycle derivatives in good to excellent yields.

RATIONALE: Although alcohol use disorder and anxiety disorders are highly comorbid in humans, controversy remains regarding whether anxiety predisposes individuals to alcohol reward, and the relationship with neurokinin-1 receptor (NK1R) is unclear. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of the study are to investigate the association between anxiety-like behavior and alcohol-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) and to examine the effect of NK1R antagonist L-703,606 on this preference and levels of NK1R protein in different brain regions in adolescent mice. METHODS: The anxiety-like behavior of adolescent male C57BL/6 mice was assessed using the elevated plus maze (EPM) test, and the animals were then allocated into high-anxiety mouse (HAM) and low-anxiety mouse (LAM) groups based on the percent of open arm time (OT%). After the reinforcement of ethanol was established by alcohol-induced CPP (2 g/kg), NK1R expression was quantified in the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and amygdala. Finally, the effect of L-703,606 (10 mg/kg) on the alcohol-induced CPP was examined. RESULTS: LAM showed a greater ethanol preference (P = 0.004) and a higher level of NK1R protein in the hippocampus (P = 0.026) than HAM group. Interestingly, the CPP score positively correlated with OT% (r = 0.520, P = 0.016) and the level of NK1R protein (r = 0.476, P = 0.029) in the hippocampus. Moreover, L-703,606 attenuated alcohol-induced CPP (P < 0.001) in both groups. CONCLUSIONS: The present results highlight the negative correlation between anxiety-like behavior and the propensity for alcohol and the critical role for NK1R in alcohol reward in adolescent mice. Importantly, the NK1R antagonist L-703,606 might be a promising therapeutic target for alcohol use disorder.
