ABSTRACT

A fluorescent and colorimetric dual-mode strategy based on carbon dots (CDs) was rationally designed for sensitive determination of Cu2+. Green fluorescent CDs with high absolute quantum yield of 72.9% were synthesized by facile one-step hydrothermal treatment of triethylenetetramine and Rose Bengal. Cu2+ could trigger the oxidative and chromogenic reaction of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) to generate chromogenic PPDox, accompanied by the fluorescence quenching of the CDs. The quenching mechanism was identified as the inner filter effect between PPDox and CDs. Therefore, a colorimetric/fluorescent dual-mode detection method for Cu2+ recognition was constructed. The limits of detection for Cu2+ were 4.14 µM and 1.28 µM for colorimetric and fluorescent mode, respectively. In addition, this method had achieved satisfactory results in the detection of Cu2+ in real serum samples.

ABSTRACT

By designing the intricate coherence structure, we are able to create a desired beam profile and trajectory. Our research focus lies on the Fourier plane, specifically emphasizing the coherence of spatial frequencies, and we find it can be seen as a constant system response. A theoretical framework is developed, and experimental studies are conducted to generate a light field of the spatial spectrum with a complex correlation using the pseudo-mode superposition method. We successfully produce partially coherent Pearcey-Gauss beams whose spatial spectrum is hyperbolic sine correlational. Interestingly, these beams maintain the distinctive propagation properties of the Pearcey pattern while exhibiting the remarkable ability to split the mainlobe into two separate lobes.

ABSTRACT

It is a highly significant area of research to investigate how to effectively enhance the focusing ability of abruptly auto-focusing beams (AAFBs) while extending the focal length. We introduce a dual-region parabolic trajectory offset modulation to auto-focusing ring Pearcey beams (RPBs), presenting a novel, to the best of our knowlege, approach to extend the focal length while greatly enhancing their auto-focusing capabilities. Unlike directly introducing a linear chirp, which inevitably shortens the focal length to enhance the auto-focusing ability and allows only single focusing in the RPBs, our scheme can achieve a multi-focusing effect. Furthermore, we have experimentally generated such a beam, verifying our theoretical predictions. Our findings offer promising possibilities for generating optical bottles, trapping multiple particles periodically, and enhancing free-space optical communication capabilities.

ABSTRACT

With the spectral renormalization method (the Fourier iteration method) we compute dark/gray soliton solutions in Kerr-type nonlocal media and find it agrees well with the analytical results. It is indicated when the characteristic nonlocal length is less than a certain critical value, the gray soliton's maximal transverse velocity does not vary with the characteristic nonlocal length, otherwise such maximal velocity decreases with the characteristic nonlocal length.

ABSTRACT

In analogy to a perturbed harmonic oscillator, we calculate the fundamental and some other higher order soliton solutions of the nonlocal nonlinear Schödinger equation (NNLSE) in the second approximation in the generally nonlocal case. Comparing with numerical simulations we show that soliton solutions in the second approximation can describe the generally nonlocal soliton states of the NNLSE more exactly than that in the zeroth approximation. We show that for the nonlocal case of an exponential-decay type nonlocal response the Gaussian-function-like soliton solutions cannot describe the nonlocal soliton states exactly even in the strongly nonlocal case. The properties of such nonlocal solitons are investigated. In the strongly nonlocal limit, the soliton's power and phase constant are both in inverse proportion to the fourth power of its beam width for the nonlocal case of a Gaussian function type nonlocal response, and are both in inverse proportion to the third power of its beam width for the nonlocal case of an exponential-decay type nonlocal response.
