COVID-19 is a complex disease that can lead to fatal respiratory failure with extrapulmonary complications, either as a direct result of viral invasion in multiple organs or secondary to oxygen supply shortage. Liver is susceptible to many viral pathogens, and due to its versatile functions in the body, it is of great interest to determine how hepatocytes may interact with SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 patients. Liver injury is a major cause of death, and SARS-CoV-2 is suspected to contribute significantly to hepatopathy. Owing to the lack of knowledge in this field, further research is required to address these ambiguities. Therefore, we aimed to provide a comprehensive insight into host-virus interactions, underlying mechanisms, and associated risk factors by collecting results from epidemiological analyses and relevant laboratory experiments. Backed by an avalanche of recent studies, our findings support that liver injury is a sequela of severe COVID-19, and certain pre-existing liver conditions can also intensify the morbidity of SARS-CoV-2 infection in synergy. Notably, age, sex, lifestyle, dietary habits, coinfection, and particular drug regimens play a decisive role in the final outcome and prognosis as well. Taken together, our goal was to unravel these complexities concerning the development of novel diagnostic, prophylactic, and therapeutic approaches with a focus on prioritizing high-risk groups.

OBJECTIVES: The neuraminidase (NA) mutations causing resistance to NA inhibitors (NAIs) mostly compromise the fitness of influenza viruses. Considering the importance of these mutations, constant monitoring of the effectiveness of available drugs is critical. This study aimed to identify NA mutations in the influenza A/H1N1 and A/H3N2 subtypes in the samples of Mazandaran, Iran from 2016 to 2020. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 20 influenza A/H1N1 and 20 influenza A/H3N2 samples were included in the study. After design of appropriate primers for NA gene, all samples subjected to RT-PCR and electrophoresis. Then the PCR product was sequenced to determine the mutations. RESULTS: In the present study, no oseltamivir resistance-related mutations were detected. Still, NA gene showed variations compared to the vaccine strains. In A/H1N1, a total of 43 mutations were detected. Similarly, in A/H3N2, a total of 66 mutations were observed. In all isolates of H1N1, N200S, N248D and I321V mutations were detected in the antigenic site of NA protein, which can affect vaccine incompatibility and virus escape from the host's immune system. Also, H150R mutation was observed in the NA active site of H3N2, which is the cause of agglutination by NA protein. Also, S245N mutation was identified as a new N-Glycosylation site of H3N2 subtype. CONCLUSIONS: The study of NA gene sequences revealed no oseltamivir resistance mutations. In H1N1 isolates, ca. 97% identities and in the H3N2 subtype, 96% identities were observed compared to reference isolate of 2009, which indicates the importance of constant monitoring of the emergence of the drug resistance mutations.

The role of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) in triggering rheumatoid arthritis (RA) could be a population-specific phenomenon. This study explored the relationship between MAP and RA using serological and molecular techniques; In this case-control study, 239 Iranian participants, including 120 RA patients and 119 controls, were enrolled. The indirect ELISA was designed to diagnose antibodies against MAP3865c125-133 and Zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8)178-186. The Nested-Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) detected MAP in blood; The frequency of MAP in RA patients and controls was 31.9% and 12.5%, respectively (P = 0.002). The antibodies against MAP3865c125-133 and ZnT8178-186 were 42.9% and 37% in RA patients and 14.2% and 11.7% in the controls, respectively (P < 0.0001). Interestingly, positive ELISA results in previously diagnosed (PD) RA were more common than newly diagnosed (ND) RA patients (P < 0.05).; The findings showed a higher frequency of MAP and its antibodies in the RA patients than in the controls. This data indicated MAP as one of RA's predisposing factors. Also, this first report implies the high positivity of MAP in Iranian RA patients.

SARS-CoV-2 put a heavy financial burden on the healthcare system, with millions of laboratory-confirmed cases and deaths worldwide in the last 2 years. During the seventh wave of this pandemic, the continuously evolving nature of SARS-CoV-2 resulted in the emergence of new variants that harbor different mutations. Mutations are associated with changes in the virus behavior, including increased transmissibility, increased virulence, and evasion of neutralizing antibodies. Currently, we need detailed and comprehensive genomic information on all SARS-CoV-2 variants. One of the key points in this study was the genome survey of mutation profiles across variants as a genomic data source, to determine the efficiency of RT-qPCR assays. We also used the source to calculate the binding affinity changes of neutralizing antibodies-mutant receptor binding domain (RBD) complexes and determine vaccine efficacy. Our result revealed that the number of nucleotide mismatches is variable in the WHO-recommended primer-probe sets. Mismatches located at the 3' ends of the oligonucleotide, may lead to false-negative results. Only the primer-probe sets designed by the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand were exclusive and cannot detect the omicron variant reliably. Binding affinity changes showed that E484K was more deleterious than other mutations and decreased stability between the mutant RBD protein and neutralizing antibodies. The Omicrons show the highest change in binding affinity which may lead to immune escape and increase transmissibility. Additionally, the 7D6 monoclonal antibody in the 7eam complex could neutralize all variants of SARS-CoV-2. We strongly recommend creating and improving a matrix accuracy by processing a large number of SARS-CoV-2 sequences to update RT-qPCR assays and identified immunogenic residues among conserved RBD. Also, a detail computational analysis is needed to investigate distinctive amino acid substitution patterns which may be foundational in the vaccines. Finally, designing in-vitro studies can help confirm the present study and manage COVID-19 patients.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

The liver and cardiovascular system disorders are not common in COVID-19 patients, but the patients suffering from these complications are exposed to a higher rate of mortality and disease progression. Hepatic injuries can drive to increased levels of liver enzymes, including ALT, AST, and LDH. Abundant levels of AST, LDH, and CPK can be indicators of cardiac injuries. The current study comparise 366 individuals who are divided into COVID-19 patients and healthy individuals groups, in which we have examined hepatic and cardiac function parameters. Moreover, the clinical characteristics of the participants, ethnicities, and their difference with studied parameters were assessed. The results showed Fars individuals are more susceptible to the disease progression, including liver and heart damage. COVID-19 infection is associated with aging, which indicates that the mean age of the case group is ten years older than the control group (P < 0.001). The blood sugar in the case group (140.50) was higher than in the control group (131.66), although there was no difference between the infection and BS (P = 0.505). Similarly, the increased- mean of the ALT level in the case group (102.369) compared with the control group (68.324) resulted in no significant difference (P = 0.318). Other parameters, including CPK, LDH, and AST showed an increase in the control group values compared to the case group; however, the differences were not significant (P = 0.264, P = 0.795, P = 0.417). Considering the involvement of cardiac and hepatic organs by SARS-CoV-2, paying particular attention to the disorders of these organs through assessing the hepatic and cardiac function parameters can enhance the patient's recovery and survival. However, in this study, we not observed significant differences, except for the Fars people. There is need for further assessment of this issue.

Background: Suppression of p53 is an important mechanism in Epstein-Barr virus associate-tumors and described as EBNA1-USP7 which is a key axis in p53 suppression. Thus, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the function of EBNA1 on the expression of p53-inhibiting genes including HDAC-1, MDM2, MDM4, Sirt-3, and PSMD10 and the influence of USP7 inhibition using GNE-6776 on p53 at protein/mRNA level. Methods: The electroporation method was used to transfect the BL28 cell line with EBNA1. Cells with stable EBNA1 expression were selected by Hygromycin B treatment. The expression of seven genes, including PSMD10, HDAC-1, USP7, MDM2, P53, Sirt-3, and MDM4, was evaluated using a real-time PCR assay. For evaluating the effects of USP7 inhibition, the cells were treated with GNE-6776; after 24 hours and 4 days, the cells were collected and again expression of interest genes was evaluated. Results: MDM2 (P=0.028), MDM4 (P=0.028), USP7 (P=0.028), and HDAC1 (P=0.015) all showed significantly higher expression in EBNA1-harboring cells compared to control plasmid transfected cells, while p53 mRNA expression was only marginally downregulated in EBNA1 harboring cells (P=0.685). Four-day after treatment, none of the studied genes was significantly changed. Also, in the first 24-hour after treatment, mRNA expression of p53 was downregulated (P=0.685), but after 4 days it was upregulated (P=0.7) insignificantly. Conclusion: It seems that EBNA1 could strongly upregulate p53-inhibiting genes including HDAC1, MDM2, MDM4, and USP7. Moreover, it appears that the effects of USP7 suppression on p53 at protein/mRNA level depend on the cell nature; however, further research is needed.

Neuraminidase inhibitors are the only FDA-approved class of antiviral agents against influenza B viruses. Resistance to these drugs has been reported from different parts of the world; however, there seems to be not enough information about this issue in Iran. We aimed to study the genetic evolution of these viruses as well as the presence of possible mutations concerning drug resistance in northern Iran. RNA was extracted from naso- and oropharyngeal swabs and amplified by one-step RT-PCR for detection and sequencing of the neuraminidase gene. All the data were edited and assembled utilizing BioEdit DNASequence Alignment Editor Software, and the phylogenetic tree was constructed via MEGA software version 10. Finally, resistance-associated mutations and B-cell epitopes substitutions were assessed by comparing our sequences with the counterparts in the reference strains. Comparing our sequences with reference strains revealed that the analyzed isolates of influenza B pertained to the B-Yamagata lineage, had a few B-cell epitopes alterations, and contained no particular mutations concerning resistance against neuraminidase inhibitors, such as oseltamivir. Our findings suggest that all the strains circulating in northern Iran and hopefully other parts of the country can be considered sensitive to this class of drugs. Although it is promising, we strongly recommend additional investigations to evaluate the impact of such drug-resistant mutations in other regions, which in turn will assist the public health agencies in taking immediate and effective therapeutic measures into account when needed.

Background: As one of the most widespread sexually transmitted infections, Herpes Simplex Virus (HSVs) globally account for 60-95% of persistent infections in adults. This infection is prevalent in women of gestational age and is likely to be transmitted from the infected mother to her neonate. Additionally, it gives rise to devastating complications in neonates. This study was designed to estimate the molecular and serological prevalence of HSV-1 and 2 in pregnant women of Gorgan city, North East of Iran. Methods: Vaginal secretions and blood specimens of 315 pregnant women referred to an educational hospital in the North east of Iran were tested for HSV-1 and HSV-2 using multiplex PCR and ELISA assays. Chi-Square test was utilized to evaluate the association of qualitative variables and the level of significance was set at p≤0.05. Moreover, statistical analysis was performed using SPSS V.19.0. Results: HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA was detected in 5.7% and 8.3% of participants, respectively. Given the serological analyses of total HSV-1 and HSV-2 antibodies, 92.7% (239/315) of patients were IgG positive and 5.4% (17/315) were IgM positive. Conclusion: The rate of HSV-1 and 2 in the present study was lower than that reported by World Health Organization (WHO). This study emphasizes the conduction of further investigations on HSVs since these viruses are probably playing significant role in sexually transmitted infections.

Background: The p53 mutation is uncommon in Epstein­Barr virus-linked gastric carcinoma, but its suppression occurs through mechanisms such as ubiquitin specific peptidase 7 (USP7) inhibitions via Epstein­Barr virus nuclear antigen-1 (EBNA1) activity. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of EBNA1 on p53-inhibiting gene expression and the impact of USP7 inhibition on p53 suppression. Methods: MKN-45 cells were transfected with the EBNA1 plasmid. A stable EBNA1 expression cell line was developed through selection based on hygromycin B resistance. Murine double minute (MDM)4, MDM2, sirtuin (SIRT)3, histone deacetylase (HDAC)1, proteasome 26S subunit, Non-ATPase (PSMD)10, USP7, and p53 expression were checked using real-time PCR. Also, cells containing EBNA1 or control plasmid were treated with GNE-6776, and the expression of the interested genes and cell survival were assessed. Results: MDM4, MDM2, and PSMD10 were significantly upregulated in the MKN-45 cell line following EBNA1 transfection. Morphological changes were observed in the cells harboring EBNA1 after 20 days. In the control cells, USP7 inhibition significantly upregulated the HDAC1, PSMD10, MDM4, and MDM2 genes after 24 h, but downregulated these genes after four days. In the EBNA1-harboring cells, MDM2, MDM4, and PSMD10 genes were significantly upregulated after 24 h, and this effect was sustained for all genes except for MDM4, even after four days. Furthermore, USP7 inhibition induced apoptosis in both cell groups. Conclusion: EBNA1 enhances the expression of p53-inhibiting genes. Two events­p53 protein overexpression and apoptosis activation­followed the suppression of the USP7 protein and provided evidence for its possible function. The significance of the EBNA1-USP7 interaction in p53 suppression warrants additional investigation and possibly reconsideration.

Viral infections contribute to 15-20% of newly diagnosed cancers worldwide. There is evidence of a possible etiological role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and high-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPVs) in colorectal carcinoma (CRC). Loss of p53 and p16 function has been found in many cancers and this may occur in many different ways, including gene mutation or interaction with viral oncoproteins. This study aimed to evaluate the presence of EBV and HPV in CRC patients in northern Iran and to assess p53 and p16 protein expression related to these viral infections. Real-time PCR was used to amplify the DNA sequences of these viruses in 55 colorectal tumoral tissues, along with their corresponding non-tumoral adjacent tissues. Additionally, immunohistochemistry (IHC) was utilized to determine p53 and p16 protein expression. EBV DNA was detected in 49.1% of CRC tissues. Furthermore, HPV DNA was present in 7.3% of CRC tissues. Notably, the prevalence of EBV infection in tumoral tissues was significantly higher than in non-tumoral tissues (P=0.001). The EBV DNA polymerase catalytic subunit (BALF5) copy number in tumoral tissues was higher than in non-tumoral tissues and this difference was statistically significant (P=0.008). P53 was positive in 21/26 (80.8%) EBV-positive and in 11/25 (44%) EBV-negative samples and this difference was significant (P=0.007). P16 was positive in 13/26 (50%) EBV-positive and in 14/25 (58.3%) EBV-negative samples (P= 0.668). Our findings suggest that EBV infection can increase the risk of CRC. In addition, EBV seems to stabilize p53 in EBV-positive CRC which needs further research. No significant correlation was detected between EBV infection and p16 expression. Also, we could not find a causal relationship between HPV infection and CRC in the study population.

BACKGROUND: Due to the high transmission rate of SARS-CoV-2, diagnostic tests have become tools for identifying patients. The key points were the virus genomes survey to design RT-LAMP primers; comparing the sensitivity and specificity of RT-LAMP and RT-qPCR; and determining the relationship among clinical symptoms, CT scan, RT-qPCR, and RT-LAMP results. METHODS: This cohort study included 444 symptomatic patients. The specificity and sensitivity of RT-LAMP were assayed. The five statistical models, simultaneously, by RapidMiner to find the best method for detecting the virus were done through the correlation between the clinical symptoms, RT-LAMP, RT-qPCR, and CT scan results. The chi-square test by SPSS 26.0 was used to calculate kappa agreement. RESULTS: The virus genome was detected in all the positive samples (198) by RT-qPCR and RT-LAMP. In addition, 246 samples were negative by RT-qPCR, while 88 were positive by RT-LAMP. Data mining analysis indicated that there were most associations between the RT-LAMP and CT scan data compared to RT-qPCR and CT scan data. CONCLUSIONS: RT-LAMP could detect SARS-CoV-2 with great simplicity, speed, and cheapness. Therefore, it is logical to screen, a large number of patients by RT-LAMP, and then RT-qPCR can be used on the limited samples.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disorder of the thyroid gland that can cause hypothyroidism. As HT is a multifactorial disorder, activation of immune responses in genetically predisposed individuals exposed to some environmental factors can contribute to it. Microorganisms, as environmental factors, including Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) by molecular mimicry, can be important in this autoimmune disorder. This study aimed to investigate the association between MAP and HT. This case-control study included 110 participants consisting of 60 HT patients and 50 healthy controls (HCs). Blood samples were collected. Nested PCR of the IS900 gene determined the presence of MAP DNA. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was designed to identify antibodies (Abs) against the MAP3865c epitope, which has a homologous sequence with ZnT8 in the sera. The demographic information of all participants was recorded. Anti-TG, anti-TPO, TSH, anemia, and ruminant exposure were higer in HT patients than in the HCs (p < 0.05). MAP IS900 was detected significantly more in the patients (46.6% consisting of 30, 8.3, and 8.3% in clinical, subclinical, and unknown) than in the HCs (14%). The sera showed a remarkable frequency of reactivity against MAP3865c in the patients (38.3%) in comparison to the HCs (10%) (p = 0.0001). Furthermore, a significantly higher rate of livestock contact and traditional dairy consumption was found in individuals with MAP or anti-MAP3865c Abs positive result (p < 0.05). This study suggests a possible link between MAP and HT. These findings indicated that MAP frequency was not statistically different in the severity of HT and its shift into the clinical and subclinical forms; therefore, it could be assumed that MAPs are the initiators of the process. The results imply on a possible zoonosis transmission route of MAP from livestock products to humans. Further research is needed to confirm these results in larger groups of HT patients.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is currently the most important etiological agent of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with millions of infections and deaths in the last 2 years worldwide. Several reasons and parameters are responsible for the difficult management of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients; the first is virus behavioral factors such as high transmission rate, and the different molecular and cellular mechanisms of pathogenesis remain a matter of controversy, which is another factor. SUMMARY: In the present review, we attempted to explain about features of SARS-COV-2, particularly focusing on the various aspects of pathogenesis and treatment strategies. KEY MESSAGES: We note evidence for the understanding of the precise molecular and cellular mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis, which can help design the appropriate drug or vaccine. Additionally, and importantly, we reported the updated issues associated with the history and development of treatment strategies such as, drugs, vaccines, and other medications that have been approved or under consideration in clinics and markets worldwide.

The treatment of viral disease has become a medical challenge because of the increasing incidence and prevalence of human viral pathogens, as well as the lack of viable treatment alternatives, including plant-derived strategies. This review attempts to investigate the trends of research on in vitro antiviral effects of curcumin against different classes of human viral pathogens worldwide. Various electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched for published English articles evaluating the anti-viral activity of curcumin. Data were then extracted and analyzed. The forty-three studies (published from 1993 to 2020) that were identified contain data for 24 different viruses. The 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50), 50% effective/inhibitory concentration (EC50/IC50), and stimulation index (SI) parameters showed that curcumin had antiviral activity against viruses causing diseases in humans. Data presented in this review highlight the potential antiviral applications of curcumin and open new avenues for further experiments on the clinical applications of curcumin and its derivatives.

Novel coronavirus (severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2: SARS-CoV-2), which arose from Wuhan, China, has rapidly spread to other countries and developed into a pandemic. Although the respiratory manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 are well-documented, there is a considerable challenge regarding the direct and/or indirect infection in other organs. Several preliminary reports confirmed neurological manifestations in the SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. Here, we report the detection of SARS-CoV-2 from the nasopharyngeal swab and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in a 34-month-old child with encephalitis. This finding expands the spectrum of the neurological manifestations associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Rotavirus is known to be responsible for remarkable numbers of severe diarrheal episodes and even death in infants and young children. In this study, we aimed to survey genetic diversity and variation analysis of viroporin, which is encoded by the rotavirus NSP4 segment. Thirty-five rotavirus-positive specimens were obtained, and RNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction amplification were performed. After the sequencing process, four specimens were excluded, and the final 31 samples remained for genetic diversity and variation analysis. The predominant single G/P combination was G1P[8] (~78%), followed by G2P[8] (~13%), and equal percentages (3%) of G2P[4], G3P[8], and G-non-typeable-P[8]. Further analyses revealed that variations could be found in the three regions of NSP4, including VP4 binding site (aa 112-146), double-layered particle binding site (aa 161-175), and finally, in the predicted amphipathic alpha-helix. Phylogenic tree analysis demonstrated that the mentioned samples clustered with genotype E1 and E2 reference sequences. As previously reported in the literature, in this study, it was revealed that no apparent correlation exists in the deduced amino acid sequences corresponding to this region between the rotaviruses collected from patients with and without diarrhea.

BACKGROUND: Members of the Polyomaviridae family, BK virus (BKV), and John Cunningham virus (JCV) are linked to polyomavirus-associated nephropathy-associated transplant rejection in immunodeficient patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of BKV and JCV in immunocompetent individuals in the north of Iran. METHODS: Ninety-one urine samples were obtained from renal transplant recipients with a mean age of 39.78 ± 11.19 years. A healthy control group of 65 volunteers with an average age of 40.32 ± 10.7 years also contributed. After DNA extraction, positive cases were detected through PCR. Genotyping was done by alignment and phylogenetic tree construction of the VP1 region against all known JCV and BKV genotypes. RESULTS: The prevalence of BKV and JCV was 15.38 and 19.78%, respectively. JCV was detected in 7.69% of the control group. The prevalence of the BKV between the case and control groups was significant (p < 0.0001). There was no significant association between BKV and JCV and duration of dialysis (p > 0.05). Overall, 62.16% of JCV cases were genotype I. Besides, genotype II was dominant within patients with BKV-positive patients. DISCUSSION: The results obtained here show a relatively lower prevalence of BKV and JCV in immunocompromised renal transplant receivers and healthy control than those reported from other areas in Iran. JCV genotyping was evaluated for the first time in Iran. Genotype I for JCV and genotype II for BKV were dominant genotypes in the north of Iran.

The field of gene therapy is striving more than ever to define a path to the clinic and the market. Twenty gene therapy products have already been approved and over two thousand human gene therapy clinical trials have been reported worldwide. These advances raise great hope to treat devastating rare and inherited diseases as well as incurable illnesses. Understanding of the precise pathomechanisms of diseases as well as the development of efficient and specific gene targeting and delivery tools are revolutionizing the global market. Currently, human cancers and monogenic disorders are indications number one. The elevated prevalence of genetic disorders and cancers, clear gene manipulation guidelines and increasing financial support for gene therapy in clinical trials are major trends. Gene therapy is presently starting to become commercially profitable as a number of gene and cell-based gene therapy products have entered the market and the clinic. This article reviews the history and development of twenty approved human gene and cell-based gene therapy products that have been approved up-to-now in clinic and markets of mainly North America, Europe and Asia.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate Rabies virus vaccine strains. The obtained results may be helpful for vaccine producers and researchers to compare the strains with wild type and other vaccine strains and select the correct strain to challenge their products. METHODS: Fourteen rabies virus vaccine strains were compared with each other. The full genomes of the selected strains were taken from the GenBank and the N, P and G genes were labeled. The major and minor antigenic sites of these sequences were identified and contrasted with each other. The identity matrix was designed for rabies virus full genome, N and G genes. In addition, the phylogenetic tree was drawn based on rabies virus N gene for deep analysis. RESULTS: Although there were no significant differences between antigenic sites in N, P, and G genes, there were noticeable differences for full genome identity matrix and this significant difference can also be observed in N and G identity matrix. In the phylogenetic tree, the Iranian sequences were distant from currently applied vaccine strains. CONCLUSION: It is necessary to pay attention to the results shown in phylogenetic tree because they warn us about distance between the Iranian sequences and current strains used in applied vaccines. In addition, the obtained results help vaccine producers to choose a correct strain to challenge their product and evaluate their vaccine potency.

Background: Detection and quantification of human Papillomavirus (HPV) genome in oral carcinoma play an important role in diagnosis, as well as implications for progression of disease. Methods: We evaluated tissues from 50 esopharyngeal cancers collected from different regions of Iran for HPV E6 using the two type-specific primers sets. E6 gene of HPV genotypes was amplified by specific primers. The sensitivity of PCR assay was analyzed and determined using HPV-DNA-containing plasmids. Real-time PCR was utilized to determine the prevalence and HPV viral load in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. Results: Eighteen (36%) specimens were positive for HPV. Among the 18 positive specimens, 10 showed HPV-18 (55.55%), and 8 specimens were positive for HPV-11 (44.44%). Of the 18 infected specimens, 6 (33.32%) and 12 (66.65%) were identified as high-titer and low-titer viral load, respectively. Conclusion: The PCR-based assay, developed in the current study, could be used for HPV detection, quantification, and genotyping in epidemiological and clinical studies.
