Terahertz scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy is a robust spectral detection technique with a nanoscale resolution. However, there are still major challenges in investigating the heterogeneity of cell membrane components in individual cells. Here, we present a novel and comprehensive analytical approach for detecting and investigating heterogeneity in cell membrane components at the single-cell level. In comparison to the resolution of the topographical atomic force microscopy image, the spatial resolution of the terahertz near-field amplitude image is 3 times that of the former. This ultrafine resolution enables the compositional distribution in the cell membrane, such as the distribution of extracellular vesicles, to be finely characterized. Furthermore, via extraction of the near-field absorption images at specific frequencies, the visualization and compositional difference analysis of cell membrane components can be presented in detail. These findings have significant implications for the intuitive and visual analysis of cell development and disease evolutionary pathways.

Low-cost broadband photodetectors (PDs) based on group-IV materials are highly demanded. Herein, a vertical all group-IV graphene-i-n (Gr-i-n) structure based on sputtering-grown undoped Ge0.92Sn0.08/Ge multiple quantum wells (MQWs) on n-Ge substrate was proposed to realize efficient visible/shortwave infrared (VIS/SWIR) dual-band photoresponse. Harnessing Gr-germanium tin (GeSn)/Ge MQWs van der Waals heterojunctions, an extended surface depletion region was established, facilitating separation and transportation of photogenerated carriers at VIS wavelengths. Consequently, remarkable VIS/SWIR dual-band response ranging from 400 to 2000 nm with a rapid response time of 23 µs was achieved. Compared to the PD without Gr, the external quantum efficiency at 420, 660, and 1520 nm was effectively enhanced by 10.2-, 5.2-, and 1.2-fold, reaching 40, 42, and 50%, respectively. This research paves the way for the advancement of all group-IV VIS/SWIR broadband PDs and presents what we believe to be a novel approach to the design of low-cost broadband PDs.

T cell receptor (TCR) plays a fundamental role in adaptive immunity, and TCR-T cell therapy holds great promise for treating solid tumors and other diseases. However, there is a noticeable absence of chemical tools tuning TCR activity. In our study, we screened natural sterols for their regulatory effects on T cell function and identified 7-alpha-hydroxycholesterol (7a-HC) as a potent inhibitor of TCR signaling. Mechanistically, 7a-HC promoted membrane binding of CD3ε cytoplasmic domain, a crucial signaling component of the TCR-CD3 complex, through alterations in membrane physicochemical properties. Enhanced CD3ε membrane binding impeded the condensation between CD3ε and the key kinase Lck, thereby inhibiting Lck-mediated TCR phosphorylation. Transient treatments of TCR-T cells with 7a-HC resulted in reduced signaling strength, increased memory cell populations, and superior long-term antitumor functions. This study unveils a chemical regulation of TCR signaling, which can be exploited to enhance the long-term efficacy of TCR-T cell therapy.

Cell-to-cell distant mechanical communication has been demonstrated using in vitro and in vivo models. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying long-range cell mechanoresponsive interactions remain to be fully elucidated. This study further examined the roles of α-Catenin and Piezo1 in traction force-induced rapid branch assembly of airway smooth muscle (ASM) cells on a Matrigel hydrogel containing type I collagen. Our findings demonstrated that siRNA-mediated downregulation of α-Catenin or Piezo1 expression or chemical inhibition of Piezo1 activity significantly reduced both directional cell movement and branch assembly. Regarding the role of N-cadherin in regulating branch assembly but not directional migration, our results further confirmed that siRNA-mediated downregulation of α-Catenin expression caused a marked reduction in focal adhesion formation, as assessed by focal Paxillin and Integrin α5 localization. These observations imply that mechanosensitive α-Catenin is involved in both cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesions. Additionally, Piezo1 partially localized in focal adhesions, which was inhibited by siRNA-mediated downregulation of α-Catenin expression. This result provides insights into the Piezo1-mediated mechanosensing of traction force on a hydrogel. Collectively, our findings highlight the significance of α-Catenin in the regulation of cell-matrix interactions and provide a possible interpretation of Piezo1-mediated mechanosensing activity at focal adhesions during cell-cell mechanical communication.

Metasurfaces have provided a flexible platform for designing ultracompact metalenses with unusual functionalities. However, traditional multi-foci metalenses are limited to generating circularly polarized (CP) or linearly polarized (LP) focal points, and the intensity distributions are always inhomogeneous/chaotical between the multiple focal points. Here, an inverse design approach is proposed to optimize the in-plane orientation of each meta-atom in a terahertz (THz) multi-foci metalens that can generate multi-polarized focal points with nearly uniform intensity distributions. As a proof-of-principle example, we numerically and experimentally demonstrate an inversely designed metalens for simultaneously generating multiple CP- and LP-based focal points with homogeneous intensity distributions, leading to a multi-polarized image (rather than the holography). Furthermore, the multi-channel and multi-polarized images consisting of multiple focal points with homogeneous intensity distributions are also numerically demonstrated. The unique approach for inversely designing multi-foci metalens that can generate multi-polarized focal points and images with uniform intensity distributions will enable potential applications in imaging and sensing.

Electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate to ammonia provides a green alternate to the Haber-Bosch method, yet it suffers from sluggish kinetics and a low yield rate. The nitrate reduction follows a tandem reaction of nitrate reduction to nitrite and subsequent nitrite hydrogenation to generate ammonia, and the ammonia Faraday efficiency (FE) is limited by the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction. Herein, we design a heterostructure catalyst to remedy the above issues, which consists of Ni nanosphere core and Ni(OH)2 nanosheet shell (Ni/Ni(OH)2). In situ Raman spectroscopy reveals Ni and Ni(OH)2 are interconvertible according to the applied potential, facilitating the cascade nitrate reduction synergistically. Consequently, it attains superior electrocatalytic nitrate reduction performance with an ammonia FE of 98.50 % and a current density of 0.934 A cm-2 at -0.476 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, and exhibits an average ammonia yield rate of 84.74 mg h-1 cm-2 during the 102-hour stability test, which is highly superior to the reported catalysts tested under similar conditions. Density functional theory calculations corroborate the synergistic effect of Ni and Ni(OH)2 in the tandem reaction of nitrate reduction. Moreover, the Ni/Ni(OH)2 catalyst also possesses good capability for methanol oxidation and thus is used to establish a system coupling with nitrate reduction.

Salinity is one of the major constraints to crop production. Rice is a main staple food and is highly sensitive to salinity. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of salt stress on physiological and agronomic traits of rice genotypes with contrasting salt tolerance. Six contrasting rice genotypes (DJWJ, JFX, NSIC, HKN, XD2H and HHZ), including three salt-tolerant and three salt-sensitive rice genotypes, were grown under two different salt concentrations (0 and 100 mmol L-1 NaCl solution). The results showed that growth, physiological and yield-related traits of both salt-sensitive and salt-tolerant rice were significantly affected by salt stress. In general, plant height, tiller number, dry weight and relative growth rate showed 15.7%, 11.2%, 25.2% and 24.6% more reduction in salt-sensitive rice than in salt-tolerant rice, respectively. On the contrary, antioxidant enzyme activity (superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase), osmotic adjustment substances (proline, soluble protein, malondialdehyde (MDA)) and Na+ content were significantly increased under salt stress, and the increase was far higher in salt-tolerant rice except for MDA. Furthermore, grain yield and yield components significantly decreased under salt stress. Overall, the salt-sensitive rice genotypes showed a 15.3% greater reduction in grain yield, 5.1% reduction in spikelets per panicle, 7.4% reduction in grain-filling percentage and 6.1% reduction in grain weight compared to salt-tolerant genotypes under salt stress. However, a modest gap showed a decline in panicles (22.2% vs. 22.8%) and total spikelets (45.4% vs. 42.1%) between salt-sensitive and salt-tolerant rice under salinity conditions. This study revealed that the yield advantage of salt-tolerant rice was partially caused by more biomass accumulation, growth rate, strong antioxidant capacity and osmotic adjustment ability under salt stress, which contributed to more spikelets per panicle, high grain-filling percentage and grain weight. The results of this study could be helpful in understanding the physiological mechanism of contrasting rice genotypes' responses to salt stress and to the breeding of salt-tolerant rice.

An equalizer based on a recurrent neural network (RNN), especially with a bidirectional gated recurrent unit (biGRU) structure, is a good choice to deal with nonlinear damage and inter-symbol interference (ISI) in optical communication systems because of its excellent performance in processing time series information. However, its recursive structure prevents the parallelization of the computation, resulting in a low equalization rate. In order to improve the speed without compromising the equalization performance, we propose a minimalist 1D convolutional neural network (CNN) equalizer, which is reconverted from a biGRU with knowledge distillation (KD). In this work, we applied KD to regression problems and explain how KD helps students learn from teachers in solving regression problems. In addition, we compared the biGRU, 1D-CNN after KD and 1D-CNN without KD in terms of Q-factor and equalization velocity. The experimental data showed that the Q-factor of the 1D-CNN increased by 1 dB after KD learning from the biGRU, and KD increased the RoP sensitivity of the 1D-CNN by 0.89 dB with the HD-FEC threshold of 1 × 10-3. At the same time, compared with the biGRU, the proposed 1D-CNN equalizer reduced the computational time consumption by 97% and the number of trainable parameters by 99.3%, with only a 0.5 dB Q-factor penalty. The results demonstrate that the proposed minimalist 1D-CNN equalizer holds significant promise for future practical deployments in optical wireless communication systems.

Exploring an active and cost-effective electrocatalyst alternative to carbon-supported platinum nanoparticles for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) have remained elusive to date. Here, we report a catalyst based on platinum single atoms (SAs) doped into the hetero-interfaced Ru/RuO2 support (referred to as Pt-Ru/RuO2), which features a low HER overpotential, an excellent stability and a distinctly enhanced cost-based activity compared to commercial Pt/C and Ru/C in 1 M KOH. Advanced physico-chemical characterizations disclose that the sluggish water dissociation is accelerated by RuO2 while Pt SAs and the metallic Ru facilitate the subsequent H* combination. Theoretical calculations correlate with the experimental findings. Furthermore, Pt-Ru/RuO2 only requires 1.90 V to reach 1 A cm-2 and delivers a high price activity in the anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer, outperforming the benchmark Pt/C. This research offers a feasible guidance for developing the noble metal-based catalysts with high performance and low cost toward practical H2 production.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the genotype-phenotype relationship in two Chinese family members with enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA). METHODS: We collected blood samples and clinical data from each pedigree family member. Genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral leukocytes using standard methods. Targeted next-generation sequencing and Sanger sequencing were performed to find the pathogenic mutation in this family. Minigene assays were used to verify whether the novel intronic mutation SLC26A4c.765+4A>G influenced mRNA splicing. RESULTS: Hearing loss in the patients with EVA was diagnosed using auditory tests and imaging examinations. Two pathogenic mutations, c.765+4A>G and c.919-2A>G were detected in SLC26A4. In vitro minigene analysis confirmed that c.765+4A>G variant could cause aberrant splicing, resulting in skipping over exon 6. CONCLUSIONS: The SLC26A4c.765+4A>G mutation is the causative variant in the Chinese family with EVA. Particular attention should be paid to intronic variants.

To investigate the feasibility and reaction mechanism of combusting sewage sludge and brown coal in a mixture. Thermal behavior evaluation of combustion characteristics, interactions, and kinetic analysis of sludge-lignite mixture combustion by thermogravimetry (TG). The results showed that the combustion performance of the mixed samples was all in between that of the lignite and sludge samples. The combined combustion index gradually decreased with the increase in sludge mixing. The addition of sludge favors the ignition of the mixture but is not conducive to overall stable combustion. The synergies between the sludges, as assessed by the mass loss curves, are reflected in the ash removal and coke oxidation stages. When the mixture of sludge and lignite is burned at a ratio of 10 wt %, the calorific value can still reach 20.3 MJ/kg, which is only about 4.2% lower than that of burning lignite alone. Application of the kinetic models of FWO, Starink, KAS, and Friedman, in turn, determined a minimum average activation energy of only 132.50 kJ/mol. In addition, the reaction was judged to be a simple complexation reaction by analyzing the thermodynamic parameters (ΔG, ΔS, ΔH, and A), with the combustion process approaching thermodynamic equilibrium and forming stable products. The nucleation model A4.2 can be used as the best reaction mechanism model for sludge-lignite mixed combustion.

The one-time application of common urea blended with controlled-release urea (CRU) is considered effective for improving nitrogen use efficiency and grain yield and reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of summer maize in intensive agricultural systems. However, the trade-off between the economic and environmental performances of different blended fertilizer treatments for different maize varieties remains unclear. Therefore, a consecutive two-year field experiment was conducted in the North China Plain to study the effects of different ratios of CRU and common urea on the yield, nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, yield-scaled total N2O emissions, greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI), and net ecosystem economic benefit (NEEB) in 2021 and 2022. Four N fertilizer treatments with equal rate at 180 kg N ha-1 were applied as N180U (all Urea), N180C1(1/3CRU), N180C2(2/3CRU), and N180C (all CRU), and two maize varieties (JNK728-yellow ripe variety and ZD958-green ripe variety) were used. The N180C1 and N180C2 treatments produced the highest grain yield in varieties JNK728 and ZD958 (9.4-11.5 t ha-1 and 9.0-11.0 t ha-1), respectively. Compared to the N180U treatment (conventional method), the N180C1 treatment reduced the GHGI (24.8 %-25.9 %) and increased the NEEB (33.1 %-33.4 %) in the JNK728 variety, whereas the N180C2 treatment reduced the GHGI (16.9 %-28.8 %) and increased the NEEB (27.2 %-48.1 %) in the ZD958 variety. The study concludes that a one-time application of blended nitrogen fertilizer in suitable varieties can minimize the GHGI and maximize the NEEB, which is an effective strategy for balancing yield and nitrogen efficiency in the summer maize system in the North China Plain.

Terahertz (THz) fingerprint metasensing is an effective method to identify chemical substances in a rapid and non-destructive way. Currently, two main principles are used in THz metasensing: the change of the real part of permittivity causing the dip resonance frequency deviation, and the fingerprint peak of the imaginary part of permittivity causing the dip resonance splitting (absorption induced transparency, AIT). Most previous work investigated AIT detection for only single chemical substance. The suitable AIT metasensor structure are still required for simultaneously measurement of multiple and mixture chemical substances. In this manuscript, we proposed the N-order concentric rings metasensor for specific recognition multiple and mixed chemical substances based on AIT fingerprint enhancement. The structure has broadband multiple plasmonic resonance dips which are generated by near field dipole resonances. The equivalent circuit model was built to realize the reconfigurable function. Then, 5-order concentric rings structure was designed and fabricated for simultaneously specific recognition of four chemical substances (α-lactose, benzoic acid, vitamin B2 and 2, 5-dichloroanline). The influence of the real and imaginary part of the chemical substances' permittivity on AIT effect had discussed in details. Simulation results indicated that the frequency-deviation of the resonance dip can be stabilized and will not be changed when the concentration of chemical substances is over 20 mg/mL. As shifted plasmonic resonance peaks match the chemical substances' imaginary part of permittivity fingerprint spectra, the perfect AIT effect can be realized. The metasensor can simultaneously and non-destructively conduct a specific detection of α-lactose, benzoic acid, vitamin B2 and 2,5-dichloroanline, and their mixture. The limit of detections of α-lactose, benzoic acid, vitamin B2 and 2,5-dichloroanline are 8.61 mg/mL, 6.96 mg/mL, 7.54 mg/mL and 8.35 mg/mL, respectively. Also, the sensitivity of the metasensor can reach 0.00211, 0.00208, 0.00211 and 0.00219 (unit: 1/mg/mL), respectively. By utilizing one-way analysis of variance method, the possibility of recognition error for each chemical substance is lower than 0.001. Our metasensor provides a novel and accurate platform for THz fingerprint sensing.

BACKGROUND: Humeral head replacement (HHR) is now rarely recommended for complex proximal humeral fractures (PHFs) in older patients. However, in relatively young and active patients with unreconstructable complex PHFs, controversy still exists regarding the treatment options of reverse shoulder arthroplasty and HHR. The goal of this study was to compare the survival, functional, and radiographic outcomes of HHR in patients aged <70 years and those aged ≥70 years after a minimum 10 years follow-up. METHODS: Eighty-seven out of 135 patients undergoing primary HHR were enrolled and then divided into 2 groups based on age: <70 years and ≥70 years. Clinical and radiographic evaluations were performed with a minimum follow-up of 10 years. RESULTS: There were 64 patients (mean, 54.9 years) in the younger group and 23 patients (mean, 73.5 years) in the older group. The younger and older groups had comparable 10-year implant survivorship (98.4% vs. 91.3%). Patients aged ≥70 years had worse American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores (74.2 vs. 81.0, P = .042) and lower satisfaction rates (12% vs. 64%, P < .001) than younger patients. At the final follow-up, older patients had worse forward flexion (117° vs. 129°, P = .047) and internal rotation (17 vs. 15, P = .036). More greater tuberosity complications (39% vs. 16%, P = .019), glenoid erosion (100% vs. 59%, P = .077), and humeral head superior migration (80% vs. 31%, P = .037) were also identified in patients aged ≥70 years. CONCLUSIONS: Unlike the increased risk for revision and functional deterioration over time after reverse shoulder arthroplasty for PHFs in younger patients, a high implant survival rate with lasting pain relief and stable functional outcomes could be observed in younger patients after HHR during long-term follow-up. Patients aged ≥70 years had worse clinical outcomes, lower patient satisfaction, more greater tuberosity complications, and more glenoid erosion and humeral head superior migration than those aged <70 years. HHR should not be recommended for the treatment of unreconstructable complex acute PHFs in older patient populations.

BACKGROUND: Thyroid cancer (TC) frequently manifests with lung metastases in the pediatric population, occurring at a significant rate of 30 %. This study aims to evaluate the impact of regional patterns of cervical lymph node metastases on lung metastases in pediatric TC. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was conducted on data from pediatric TC patients spanning the years 2000 to 2018. We compared the rates of lymph node metastasis (LNR), the number of lymph node metastases, and the number of dissected lymph nodes in the central and lateral cervical regions between patients with and without lung metastases. Statistical methods were employed to adjust for confounders during hypothesis testing. RESULTS: A total of 227 pediatric patients, with a median age of 15.12 ± 2.84 years, were included in the study. Of these, 202 (89 %) exhibited LN metastasis, with 40(17.62 %) patients presenting with lung metastasis. Patients with lung metastases were found to be younger (13.40 ± 3.11 vs. 15.50 ± 2.64, p < 0.001), had larger primary tumor diameters (3.49 ± 1.98 vs. 2.31 ± 1.45, p < 0.001), and exhibited a higher number of lymph node metastases (23.40 ± 10.75 vs. 14.65 ± 13.16, p < 0.001). Notably, in patients with LN metastases, the presence of >12 lateral cervical lymph node metastases emerged as a significant risk factor for lung metastases. Among children with metachronous lung metastases, the median time to detection of lung metastases was 43 (12-132) months, and they appeared to receive a greater proportion of radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment compared to those with synchronous lung metastases. CONCLUSION: Lateral cervical lymph node metastasis independently predicts the likelihood of lung metastases in pediatric TC. Furthermore, our findings emphasize the importance of thorough examination of the lungs during follow-up, particularly when the number of metastatic lateral cervical lymph nodes exceeds 12.

The plasma filament induced by photo-ionization in transparent media (e.g., air) is a competitive terahertz (THz) source, whose mechanism has been widely studied in two separate schemes, i.e., the one- or two-color femtosecond laser filamentation. However, the physical commonality of these two schemes is less explored currently, and a common theory is in urgent need. Here, we proposed the traveling-wave antenna (TWA) model applicable to both single- and dual-color laser fields, which successfully reproduced the reported far-field THz angular distribution/dispersion from different filament lengths with either a constant or a varied plasma density. This work paves the way toward a deeper understanding of the important laser-filament-based THz sources within the same theoretical framework.

Colletotrichum higginsianum is a major pathogen causing anthracnose in Chinese flowering cabbage (Brassica parachinensis), posing a significant threat to the Chinese flowering cabbage industry. The conidia of C. higginsianum germinate and form melanized infection structures called appressoria, which enable penetration of the host plant's epidermal cells. However, the molecular mechanism underlying melanin biosynthesis in C. higginsianum remains poorly understood. In this study, we identified two enzymes related to DHN-melanin biosynthesis in C. higginsianum: ChPks and ChThr1. Our results demonstrate that the expression levels of genes ChPKS and ChTHR1 were significantly up-regulated during hyphal and appressorial melanization processes. Furthermore, knockout of the gene ChPKS resulted in a blocked DHN-melanin biosynthetic pathway in hyphae and appressoria, leading to increased sensitivity of the ChpksΔ mutant to cell-wall-interfering agents as well as decreased turgor pressure and pathogenicity. It should be noted that although the Chthr1Δ mutant still exhibited melanin accumulation in colonies and appressoria, its sensitivity to cell-wall-interfering agents and turgor pressure decreased compared to wild-type strains; however, complete loss of pathogenicity was not observed. In conclusion, our results indicate that DHN-melanin plays an essential role in both pathogenicity and cell wall integrity in C. higginsianum. Specifically, ChPks is crucial for DHN-melanin biosynthesis while deficiency of ChThr1 does not completely blocked melanin production.

BACKGRUOUND: Prediabetes leads to declines in physical function in older adults, but the impact of prediabetes progression or regression on physical function is unknown. This study assessed this longitudinal association, with physical function objectivelymeasured by grip strength, walking speed, and standing balance, based on the Health and Retirement Study enrolling United States adults aged >50 years. METHODS: Participants with prediabetes were followed-up for 4-year to ascertain prediabetes status alteration (maintained, regressed, or progressed), and another 4-year to assess their impacts on physical function. Weak grip strength was defined as <26 kg for men and <16 kg for women, slow walking speed was as <0.8 m/sec, and poor standing balance was as an uncompleted fulltandem standing testing. Logistic and linear regression analyses were performed. RESULTS: Of the included 1,511 participants with prediabetes, 700 maintained as prediabetes, 306 progressed to diabetes, and 505 regressed to normoglycemia over 4 years. Grip strength and walking speed were declined from baseline during the 4-year followup, regardless of prediabetes status alteration. Compared with prediabetes maintenance, prediabetes progression increased the odds of developing weak grip strength by 89% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.04 to 2.44) and exhibited larger declines in grip strength by 0.85 kg (95% CI, -1.65 to -0.04). However, prediabetes progression was not related to impairments in walking speed or standing balance. Prediabetes regression also did not affect any measures of physical function. CONCLUSION: Prediabetes progression accelerates grip strength decline in aging population, while prediabetes regression may not prevent physical function decline due to aging.

Background: Fatty infiltration (FI) or atrophy alone has been found to be inaccurate in predicting shoulder function after repair of large-to-massive rotator cuff tears (L/MRCTs), especially when a diverse extent of FI and atrophy presents in multiple rotator cuff muscles. Purpose/Hypothesis: The Posterosuperior Tetralogy Scoring System (PS-Tetra Score), which integrates FI and atrophy, was proposed to predict shoulder function after surgery. It was hypothesized was that a PS-Tetra Score ≥3 would be a risk factor for poor shoulder function after repair of posterosuperior L/MRCTs and would possess greater diagnostic value than using isolated FI or atrophy of the supraspinatus (SSP) or infraspinatus (ISP). Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A total of 187 arthroscopic repairs of posterosuperior L/MRCTs were reviewed. Magnetic resonance imaging evaluations were performed of FI and atrophy of the SSP and ISP, teres minor hypertrophy, tendon retraction, and acromiohumeral distance. A postoperative American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score of 70 was used to subgroup patients according to shoulder function. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to determine the risk factors of poor shoulder function (ASES ≤70). The diagnostic values of different indicators for predicting shoulder function were evaluated. Results: In univariate analysis, female sex, higher Goutallier grade of the SSP and ISP, positive SSP tangent sign, and PS-Tetra Score ≥3 was significantly associated with ASES score ≤70, whereas in binary logistic regression analysis, a PS-Tetra Score ≥3 was the only significant risk factor for poor shoulder function. The occurrence rate of poor function in shoulders with a PS-Tetra Score of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 was 0% (0/52), 0% (0/52), 19.57% (9/46), 58.06% (18/31), and 83.33% (5/6), respectively. PS-Tetra Score ≥3 possessed higher crude agreement (87.70%), specificity (90.97%), positive predictive value (62.16%), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.814) than the other 3 indicators, with relatively high negative predictive value (94.00%) and moderate sensitivity (71.88%). Conclusion: PS-Tetra Score ≥3 was a risk factor of poor shoulder function after repair of posterosuperior L/MRCTs and possessed greater diagnostic value than using isolated FI or atrophy of SSP or ISP alone for predicting shoulder function.
