ABSTRACT

The pursuit of pharmacological interventions in aging aims focuses on maximizing safety and efficacy, prompting an exploration of natural products endowed with inherent medicinal properties. Subsequently, this work establishes a unique library of plant extracts sourced from Yunnan Province, China. Screening of this herbal library herein revealed that Salsola collina (JM10001) notably enhances both lifespan and healthspan in C. elegans. Further analysis via network pharmacology indicates that the p53 signaling pathway plays a crucial role in mediating the anti-aging effects of JM10001. Additionally, this work identifies that a composition, designated as JM10101 and comprising three chemical constituents of JM10001, preserves the original lifespan-extending activity in C. elegans. Both JM10001 and JM10101 mitigate aging symptoms in senescence-accelerated mice treated with doxorubicin and in naturally aged mice. Notably, JM10101 exhibits a more sophisticated senomorphlytic role encompassing both senomorphic and senolytic functions than JM10001 in the modulation of senescent cells, offering a promising strategy for the discovery of combination drugs in the rational development of anti-aging therapies.

ABSTRACT

One new alkaloid, 6, 7-dimethoxyisoquinoline-N-oxide (1), one new benzofuran derivative, 3,7-dimethyl-6-acetyl-8-benzofuranol (2) and one new lignan, salsolains A (3), along with seven known compounds (4-10), were isolated from the whole plant of Salsola collina Pall. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of spectroscopic data (IR, UV, HR-ESI-MS, 1 D and 2 D NMR), and their absolute configurations were determined by the X-ray crystallography and ECD calculation. The activities of compounds 1-10 against inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α levels on LPS-induced RAW 264.7 macrophages were assessed, especially, compound 5 (50 µM) exhibited the most significant anti-inflammatory activity with the secretion levels of IL-6 and TNF-α at 3.87% and 4.03%, respectively.

ABSTRACT

Salsola collina Pall has a long history of being used as a traditional medicine to treat hypertension, headache, insomnia, constipation and vertigo. However, only a few biologically active substances have been identified from S. collina. Here, the shoots and roots of S. collina, namely L-Sc and R-Sc, were studied. The primary and secondary metabolites were investigated using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS/MS). A total of 637 putative metabolites were identified and these metabolites were mainly classified into ten different categories. Correlation analysis, hierarchical clustering analysis, principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis of metabolites showed that the L-Sc samples could be clearly separated from the R-Sc samples. Differential accumulated metabolite analysis revealed that most of differential primary metabolites were significantly lower in the L-Sc than in the R-Sc. Conversely, the major differential secondary metabolites had higher levels in the L-Sc than in the R-Sc. Further analysis indicated that the flavonoids were the major putative antioxidant components and most of putative antioxidant components exhibited higher relative concentrations in the L-Sc than the R-Sc. These results improve our understanding of metabolite accumulation and provide a reference for the study of medicinal value in S. collina.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Effects of ethyl acetate extract of Salsola collina (EES) on brain-gut peptides and interstitial cells of gastric Cajal in rats with diabetic gastroparesis were explored. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Rats were divided into six groups: normal control group (NC), diabetic gastroparesis model group (DGP), low, medium, and high dose of EES groups (LES, MES, and HES, respectively), and metoclopramide positive group (MPG). DGP rats were induced by streptozotocin (STZ) combined with a high-sugar-high-fat diet. The gastric emptying was measured by the phenol red labeling method. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was employed to determine the concentrations of serum ghrelin, gastrin (GAS), somatostatin (SS), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). The expressions of c-Kit and its natural ligand stem cell factor (SCF) in gastric tissues were determined by Western blot and immunofluorescence. RESULTS: Gastric emptying rate increased in a different degree after intervention by EES, among which MES and HES groups showed a significant effect (compared with DGP, P<0.01) and the HES group was equivalent to the MPG group; serum ghrelin and content of serum GAS increased while SS and VIP decreased (compared with the DGP group, P<0.05 or P<0.01); c-Kit and SCF protein expressions in gastric tissue increased (compared with DGP group, P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSION: EES significantly improved gastric emptying by regulating gastrointestinal hormone excretion and c-Kit/SCF signaling pathway. Our study provides a pharmacological basis for the use of the EES in the treatment of DGP. However, the detailed molecular mechanism remains to be clarified.

ABSTRACT

Salsola collina Pall. as a typical euhalophyte was slowly pyrolyzed at 300°C, 500°C and 700°C in a fixed-bed system. The physiochemical properties of syngas, bio-oil and biochar were assayed to understand the impact of pyrolysis temperature on these parameters and then to evaluate their potential values. The results showed that syngas yield (26.07-46.37%) increased with pyrolysis temperature, while biochar yield (47.54-26.83%) decreased. Bio-oil yield (26-30%) was hardly affected by pyrolysis temperature. Both syngas and bio-oil had poor values as direct fuel. The euhalophyte-derived biochar had higher aromaticity (H/C 0.16-0.85, O/C 0.06-0.26), higher cation exchange capacity (198.82-435.74cmolkg(-1)), and higher K(+) (59.35-80.42gkg(-1)) and Na(+) (37.56-53.26gkg(-1)) compared with glycophyte-derived biochars. Our findings imply that halophyte biochar may be more suitable to use as a soil conditioner, which is worthy of further study.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Achillea asiatiсa has been used in traditional medicine for one hundreds of years. Many compounds have been isolated from /Achillea asiatica/, including flavonoids, sesquiterpenes and essential oils. Salsola collina herb grows in Siberia, Baikal and Altai. It contains a variety of amino acids, flavonoids, glycosides, and vitamins. It has a positive effect on metabolism of fats in liver, regulates cholesterol and sugar in the blood and is recommended for weight reduction. Salsola collina is widely distributed in droughty and semi-droughty area, which is used as a kind of folk remedy in traditional Chinese and Mpngolian traditional medicine for treatment of hypertension and liver protectevity . Goal: The aim of study is to choose optimal extragent and determination liver protecting activity in Achillea asiatiсa, Salsola colina and to determine main substances in these herbals. Material and Methods: Achillea asiatiсa was collected from Dorgonot mountain Tuv province in June of 2012, Salsola colina were collected from Medicinal botanical garden of Drug Research Institute in August of 2012. Maceration was chosen by suitable extraction method and optimal extragent was ethanol. Flavonoids were determined in evaporated extract of Achillea asiatiсa, Salsola colina using the method by Mongolian National first Pharmacopeia. We use non line wistar rats, determination liver protecting activity biochemical analysis by Hospitex analyzer. Result: Liquid extracts were obtained from Achillea asiatiсa, Salsola colina with maceration method. Liquid extracts were evaporated on Vacuum rotor. The tehnological parameters of liquid extracts are the main important index to calculate the extragent correctly, to establish the material balance exactly, and to extract the process efficiently. 70% ethanol (1:10 sample/extragent) was determined by optimal extragent for Achillea asiatiсa, 80% ethanol (1:10) for Salsola colina. Achillea asiatiсa, Salsola colina were have liver protecting activity. Conclusion: Some technological parameters of liquid extract were determined such as optimal extragent and the effective extracting method of Achillea asiatiсa, Salsola colina. As the result of determining these parameters, it has much practical significant for establishing the technological condition to extract the biological activity compounds completely from their plants. ABSTRACT

Salsola collina is widely distributed in droughty and semi-droughty area, which is used as a kind of folk remedy in traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of hypertension. The study is on the chemical constituents of this herb from its aerial parts to obtain its active constituents. Dried and crushed aerial parts of this herb were extracted three times with 95% EtOH at reflux. The ethanol extracts were combined and concentrated under reduced pressure at 70 ℃ to yield residue, which was suspended in water and successively partitioned with light petroleum, chloroform and n-butanol. The chloroform and n-butanol fractions were treated by various chromatographic techniques, such as silica gel, C18 reversed-phase silica gel and macroporous resin column chromatography. Compounds were elucidated by their physicochemical properties and spectroscopic analysis. In the course of our study on searching biological active components from this herb, a new alkaloid together with three known alkaloids were isolated and identified as N-transferuloyl-3-methyldopamine (1), 3-[4-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-3- methoxyphenyl]-N-[2-(4-hydroxyl-3-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]-2-propenamide (2), salsoline A (3), salsoline B (4). Compound 4 is a new compound and named as salsoline B, while compound 2 was obtained in Salsola collina for the first time.

Objective To study the constituents of Salsola collina.Methods The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by various chromatographic methods and their structures were elucidated by analyses of spectral data and physicochemical properties.Results Three compounds were isolated and identified as tricin-7-O-?-D-apiosyl(1→2)-?-D-glucopyranoside(Ⅰ),tianshic acid(Ⅱ),and n-hentriacontanol (Ⅲ).Conclusion CompoundⅠis a new compound named collinoside,compoundⅡis isolated from S.collina for the first time.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To dissociate and determine the chemical components of volatile oil from Salsola col-lina Pall.in Shandong Province METHODS: The chemical components of volatile oil were analyzed by gaschromatography-massspectraphy(GC/MS). RESULTS: Fifty-nine constituents were identified,which accounted for 87.63% of volatile oil,the major chemical componets in the volatile oil were terpenes and terpene ramifications. CONCLUSION: This method is reliable,stable and repeatable.the data can provide resources for expolitation of Salsola col-lina Pall.
