RESUMO

We present the case of a stillbirth, who presented with constrictive amniotic bands, amniotic adhesions, limb-body-wall complex, and the presence of a pseudotail that was studied at the Pathology Unit of the Acapulco General Hospital. This entity, formerly termed cyllosomus and pleurosomus, is rare. The anomalies were interpreted as being band- and/or compression-related defects. The latter included limb deficiency, body wall deficiency, neural tube defects, scoliosis, postural deformations, growth deficiency and short umbilical cord. The scanty literature on this subject in Mexico is due to the lack of interest to report isolated cases like the one we comment here, which depends on local interest in teratology.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: We present the unusual ingestion of a Levin's tube by Ascaris lumbricoides found in the stomach of a 60 year old woman who died with the clinical diagnosis of cerebral vascular disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The parasite was studied in serial histological sections with hematoxylin-eosin stain, to observe the tube in situ. RESULTS: Cross sections showed loss of the intestinal lumen with distension of the internal border and the identification of structures through uterus and ovaries and the effects of compression by the Levin's tube. CONCLUSIONS: Considering the muscular tissue of the esophagus, this condition tolerates in the utmost degree the passage of the catheter to reach the anus. This finding, plus the lytic effects of enzymes in the parasite's mouth, contributes partially to explain the variety of pathology observed in literature.

RESUMO

A case is reported of the presence of an intrauterine device into the bladder due to uterine perforation with calculus formation in a 39 year old woman, with two pregnancies after its installation. The patient was seen for complaints of pelvic pain, pollakiuria, dysuria and tenesmus, without uterine sintomatology. The case was studied in July of 1993 in the General Hospital "Vicente Guerrero" of Acapulco. To our knowledge only 19 previous cases have been reported in the literature of migration of an intrauterine device into the bladder with calculus formation. The literature is reviewed and we discuss the clinico-radiological findings.

RESUMO

Two typical adenocarcinomas of the fallopian tube in a thirty two and thirty-eight-year-old patients are presented. Clinically both tumors were discovered after episodes of vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain and leukorrhen. Both patients were treated by total hysterectomy including removal of the ovaries and the fallopian tubes. One of the patients remains well after two and a half years postoperatively without signs and symptoms of tumor up to date. Microscopically the tumors were classified as poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas. A brief review of the pertinent literature, was done.

RESUMO

One clinical case of cervical pregnancy studied at the General Hospital of Acapulco, Guerrero, México, is presented clinically it was manifested as septic abortion and diagnosed by ultrasonography. In the past 12 years of establishment, 30,000 deliveries have been recorded and during this period, only four well documented cases were found and two of the previously reported by one us. Only two cervical pregnancy presenting as abortion, a relationship not emphasized in literature, was made in 1975.

RESUMO

One clinical case of cervical pregnancy studied, at the Hospital Regional ISSSTE in Acapulco, Guerrero, México, is presented. Clinically it was manifested as a true cervical pregnancy, with intermittent vaginal bleeding, fetid leukorrhea and slight pelvic pain. Literature reveals that diagnosis is rarely, if ever made, except by direct observation of the cervix. The case fulfills the Rubin's criteria for cervical pregnancy. Cervical pregnancy is extremely rare as evidenced by the paucity of cases in literature. Although it is an abnormal gestation, cervical pregnancy and a lithopedion formation makes this report rare and unique in world literature.

RESUMO

PIP: A rare case of cervical pregnancy in the presence of an IUD is described. A 25-year-old woman with 2 children was treated with injectable hormones for intermittent vaginal bleeding after insertion of an IUD. She was later seen in a health center where removal of the IUD was recommended because of a suspected strangulating endocervical polyp. Uncontrollable hemorrhage during the removal resulted in emergency admittance to the General Hospital of Acapulco and a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful. The case met some of Rubin's criteria for a true cervical pregnancy established in 1911: the uterine cavity was empty, and the site of implantation of the blastocyst was below the internal orifice of the cervix and 1 cm above the external cervical opening. Schneider applied the term cervical pregnancy to all cases in which the pregnancy is "obviously and predominantly" situated in the cervix, whether the placenta extended to the isthmus or the endometrium. No pregnancy of greater than 12 weeks is available for histologic proof because of the growth of the placenta in areas contiguous to the cervix and the effacing effect of the growing ovisac. Numerous etiologic factors for cervical pregnancy have been proposed, of which the 3 finding greatest acceptance have been lack of an adequate endometrium for nidation of the trophoblast, a rapid passage of the egg through the uterine cavity, and a premature closing of the internal opening of the cervix. The frequency of cervical pregnancy has been estimated at 1 in 1000 to 1 in 16,000 pregnancies, but its true frequency is unknown. The case described is of great interest because it occurred with an IUD in place.^ieng

RESUMO

Six adult Ascaris lumbricoides were found in the pelvis and calyces of the left kidney of a 25-year-old woman in Mexico. Prior to death three worms had emerged from a subcutaneous abscess which at autopsy was found to communicate with the colon through fistulas to the upper ureter above an occluding calculus, and from the renal capsule to the skin near the left iliac crest.
