RESUMO

Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.) is gaining popularity as healthy food due to its nutritional and phytochemical properties. This study reports nutritional and phytochemical profile of ten finger millet genotypes. Proximate analysis of finger millet genotypes revealed moisture, total carbohydrate, protein, fat, fiber and ash in the range of 7.50-11.75, 71.90-76.38, 6.7-8.0, 1.2-1.7, 3.1-3.8 and 3.1-3.8 per cent respectively. Micro-nutrient profiling showed Ca, Fe, Zn, P, K and Mn in the range of 2400.00-3400.00, 40.28-47.60, 12.40-17.45, 1600.00-2900.00, 3800.00-5200.00 and 51.33-61.28 mg kg-1 respectively. Phytochemical profiling was done for total phenol, phytic acid, tannins, flavonoids, HCN, oxalate and trypsin inhibitor which were observed in the range of 99.75-112.25, 210.75-302.75, 340.00-500.00, 62.23-74.05, 2.45-2.80, 19.80-26.23 mg 100 g-1 and 207.35-234.23 TIU g-1 respectively. Amino acid profiling showed good amount of essential amino acids. Nutritional and phytochemical profiling of finger millet genotypes showed its potentiality to become source of health promoting food.

RESUMO

Chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate (OP) pesticide, possess broad-spectrum insecticidal activity against Lepidoptera, Diptera, Homoptera, Coleoptera, Orthoptera, Hymenoptera, and Hemiptera. Organophosphate pesticides have acute neurotoxicity because they suppress acetylcholine esterase (AChE) which regulates the enzyme of neurotransmitters by reducing acetylcholine concentration at synaptic junctions. On exposure to OP, AChE is inactivated and leads to accumulation of acetylcholine in the junction. Moreover, due to their persistence nature they biomagnify at different food chain levels. In the present study, a newly isolated indigenous bacterial strain Tistrella sp. AUC10 was exploited for its ability to degrade chlorpyrifos pesticide. The isolate completely degrades (99.86%) chlorpyrifos. The degraded metabolites of chlorpyrifos by Tistrella sp. AUC10 were identified by GC-MS analysis. Based on the GC-MS analysis, a putative pathway of degradation of chlorpyrifos by Tistrella sp. AUC10 has been proposed. It emulsified various hydrocarbons and also confirms biosurfactant production on CTAB agar. This study is the first report on elucidation of the mechanism of degradation of chlorpyrifos by Tistrella sp. Furthermore, phytotoxicity studies of the parent compound and the biodegraded chlorpyrifos products revealed drastic reduction in the toxicity of metabolites as compared to the parent chlorpyrifos. This implies that the biodegraded metabolites of chlorpyrifos are of non-toxic nature. This study thus indicates the efficacy of Tistrella sp. AUC10 for the treatment of chlorpyrifos contaminated agricultural fields.

RESUMO

Bacillus subtilis C3, a commercial textile dye-decolorizing and -degrading bacterium, was isolated from the common effluent treatment plant (CEPT) of the Jetpur textile dyeing and printing industrial sector situated in the district of Rajkot, Gujarat, India. Here, we present the annotated 4.18-Mb draft genome sequence of B. subtilis C3, providing information about the metabolic pathways involved in decolorization and degradation of several commercial textile azo dyes. Thus, we confirm B. subtilis C3 as a potential candidate for bioremediation of textile effluents.
