RESUMO

Foreign bodies are amongst the commonest emergencies presenting to the otorhinolaryngologists. They can be remarkably difficult to see and remove. However, nasopharyngeal foreign bodies are exceedingly rare. Foreign bodies can have disastrous complications, such as rhinolith formation, septal perforation, erosion into the surrounding structures, and infections including sinusitis, otitis media, periorbital cellulitis, diphtheria, meningitis, and tetanus. Imaging investigations, such as X-ray, CT scan and MRI, can be of great help in diagnosing and planning treatment in clinically equivocal cases, although they are rarely needed. Complete removal of the foreign body is of paramount importance in treating this entity. This unique case demonstrates the importance of a thorough clinical examination and history in patients presenting with vague complaints, especially in the paediatric population due to their usually non-specific symptoms and insufficient history.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to determine the effect of early physical therapy intervention on symptoms of post-operative ileus after abdominal hysterectomy. This randomised control trial was carried out at the Railway General Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from February 2021 to July 2021. Participants were randomly allocated to experimental (n=21) and control (n=21) groups using sealed envelope method. The experimental group received an enhanced physiotherapy rehabilitation plan of care consisting of patient education, breathing exercises, early mobilisation, connective tissue manipulation, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, while the control group only performed ambulation. The intervention was carried out during the first three days after surgery. Subjective measures were used to determine post-operative ileus. The study results conclude that enhanced early post-operative rehabilitation programme following abdominal hysterectomy has the potential to improve symptoms of post-operative ileus.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to determine the effects of high-intensity aerobic training on the symptomatology of primary dysmenorrhoea. The study was conducted at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad, Pakistan, from February 2021 to July 2021. The participants were randomly allocated to two groups - experimental and control - with 21 participants in each group, using the sealed envelope method. Experimental group underwent a structured eight-week high-intensity aerobic training regimen on a treadmill (Intensity 80-90% of target heart rate). The participants in the control group were given low-intensity aerobic training (Intensity 40-60% of target heart rate). The severity of dysmenorrhoea symptoms was assessed using Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire. The study concluded that high-intensity aerobic training is effective in reducing the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhoea.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of sexual harassment in nurses and to observe its correlation with negative mental health (depression, anxiety and stress). Further to examine the role of sexual harassment as a predictor of negative mental health in nurses and to explore the differences in the experience of sexual harassment, depression, anxiety and stress between junior and senior nurses. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional descriptive study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: Public Sector Hospitals in Lahore, from December 2011 to March 2012. METHODOLOGY: Asample of 200 nurses with age range 23 to 46 years was obtained. Assessment tools used in the study were Sexual Harassment Experience Questionnaire (SHEQ) by Kamal, and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) by Lovibond and Lovibond. RESULTS: Mean age of the nurses was 29.80 ±7.10 years. Among these 63% were married and 37% unmarried. The mean working experience of nurses was 13.7 ±3. 52 years and their mean monthly income was 27820 ±13687.32 rupees. Their working hours ranged from 8 to 16 hours (M = 8.32, SD = 2.12). The mean prevalence of sexual harassment was 71.66 ±19.01. A significant positive correlation of sexual harassment with depression, anxiety, stress and combined effect of them (DASS) was found. Multiple regression analysis showed sexual harassment as significant predictor of depression (ß= 0.47, p < .001), anxiety (ß= 0.43, p < .001) and stress (ß= 0.45, p < .001) in nurses. CONCLUSION: Sexual harassment was found to be a predictor of negative mental health in the form of depression, anxiety and stress in nurses of public hospitals.
