RESUMO

Cured were 59 cows, affected by puerperal catarrhal suppurative endometritis, by intra-aortic and uterine infusion of procaine and antibiotic solutions. A good curative and biological effect was reached. The aortic-treated animals were fertilized at average independence and service periods--accordingly 43.52 and 57.31 days, for the uterine treatment--accordingly 51.67 and 78 days.

RESUMO

Bacteriologic, mycologic, and serologic investigations of cows and calves and three experiments with rabbits were carried out to shed light on the bacteriology and mycology of the intrauterine infections in cows. The following organisms were isolated from the investigated cows that exhibited disturbances in their reproduction, and had abortions, or gave birth to calves that were affected with diseases or died: Escherichia coli (17.84%), association of bacteria (7.64%); Vibrio genitalis (3.86%); Streptococcus sp. (2.78%); moulds (2.54%); Staphylococcus aureus (2.20%); Proteus sp. (1.62%); Staphylococcus epidermidis (1.39%); Pseudomonas aeruginosa (1.39%); Pasteurella multocida (0.11%). The serologic investigation of a total of 231 blood samples from cows that miscarried, gave birth to dead calves, or failed to conceive revealed that in 15.58 per cent there was vibriosis, and in 6.06 per cent--leptospirosis. Demonstrated was the etiologic link between cows with reproductive disturbances and diseased calves with regard to vibriosis and leptospirosis. The tests with rabbits were indicative of bacterial carriers (with special reference to the genitalia) up to the 60th day following infection. There were abortions, sterility, and death cases and the birth of unviable bunnies in the case of reproduced coital infections with Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

RESUMO

The morphologic studies of aspergillosis abortions in cows and guinea pigs were carried out on 83 spontaneously affected aborted cattle fetuses, pregnant guinea pigs and their offsprings. Fifty-four fetuses were of spontaneously aborted cows from 12 farms along with 15 pregnant guinea pigs experimentally infected with Aspergillus fumigatus and a total of 14 fetuses of theirs. Microscopically, both in the cattle fetuses and in guinea pigs and their fetuses there were stasis, thrombosis, diapedetic hemorrhages, hyperplasia of the reticulohistiocytes, necrobiosis, and a good amount of polysaccharides in the investigated organs at the absence of hyalin in them. Special staining of cross sections of the studied viscera revealed hyphae of Aspergillus fumigatus--in the blood vessels and the tissue of the organs in spontaneously and experimentally infected, resp., aborted cattle fetuses as well as in guinea pigs but not in their fetuses.

RESUMO

A total of 28,159 blood serum samples have been examined for brucellosis, 87--for leptospirosis, 84--for toxoplasmosis, 554--for the presence of rickettsii and neoreckettsii, and 193--for total protein content, albumin, and protein fractions, taken from cows in the course of the years on 40 dairy farms in the district of Rousse. Bacteriologically were examined 349 aborted fetuses, 178 samples of estral secretion, 57 placentae, and 1002 samples of washings and seminal fluid from bulls for vibriosis. Bacteriologic investigations were also carried out on 383 fetuses for salmonellosis, listeriosis, and colibacteriosis, and virologic studies of 398 placentae and parenchymal organs of fetuses. Twenty-eight fetuses were studied parasitologically for toxoplasmosis, and 118 blood smears were examined for hemosporidiosis. It was established that most important in the etiology of the infectious abortions in cows in the district of Rousse were Vibrio organisms. They were found in 36.9 per cent of the studied bovine fetuses and in 24.4 per cent of all materials examined bacteriologically. Only 4 cases were noted of neorickettsii from fetuses and placentae. Serologically, there were 23.6 per cent cases positive for neorickettsiosis, and 12.6 per cent--for Q fever; 56.4 per cent of the investigated sera proved positive for leptospirosis. In 0.8 per cent of the examined fetuses there was Escherichia coli. Abortions in cows were also due to anaplasmosis and francaillelosis; 14.2 per cent of the investigated respective sera were positive for toxoplasmosis. On the days of abortions the amount of total protein was 7.13 mg%, that of albumins--36%, and of globulins--64%. It is considered imperative to elucidate the cause of abortions of infectious nature in cows in connection with the establishing of cattle-breeding complexes.

RESUMO

Studied were mycologically a total of 463 aborted fetuses from 32 farms in the district of Roussé in 1972-1974. The pathogenic Aspergillus fumigatus fungus was established in 16.19 per cent of the cases. Abortions occurred the year round, becoming more frequent on the hot and wet days in summer and autumn as well as at in-door rearing and inappropriate hygiene conditions in winter. Most frequently abortions set in between the third and seventh month of pregnancy, which should be taken into consideration in diagnosing the disease.

RESUMO

Tested was the virulence of 20 strains of Aspergillus fumigatus isolated from cow fetuses. All laboratory mice injected with them died, and the pregnant guinea pigs aborted. It was demonstrated that these strains contain exogenic and endotoxic substances which are extracted effectively with alcohol and ether. The mould cultures showed proteolytic, amylolytic, cellulose, and organic acid activity. The biochemical and pathogenic potential of the strains were of great importance for causing abortion.

RESUMO

Experiments were carried out with a total of 82 laboratory animals including 56 mice and 26 guinea pigs. The possibility was tested to provoke abortions in them with the use of Aspergillus fumigatus spores introduced through the trachea, orally or vaginally. The mould was isolated on Chapek agar from an aborted bovine fetus. It was found that all three routes of infection lead to abortions setting in after three to five treatments on the 1st to 3rd day following the last introduction of spores. The pregnant mice and guinea pigs showed individual sensitivity to the infection.

RESUMO

Tested was the penetrating capacity of 55 samples of bulls' semen, contaminated with Aspergillus fumigatus, so far as the estrous secretion of cows was concerned. A total of ten cows in heat were inseminated with spermatozoa carrying the Aspergillus spore infection. It was found that the contaminated semen was with deteriorated quality and a 50 per cent lowered penetrating capacity as against the controls. The inseminated cows conceived with difficulty, exhibited disturbances in their sexual cycle, and two of the animals showed data of early embryonal death.
