RESUMO

With the growing dependence on lithium-ion batteries, there is an urgent need to understand the potential developmental toxicity of LiPF6, a key component of these batteries. Although lithium's toxicity is well-established, the biological toxicity of LiPF6 has been minimally explored. This study leverages the zebrafish model to investigate the developmental impact of LiPF6 exposure. We observed morphological abnormalities, reduced spontaneous movement, and decreased hatching and swim bladder inflation rates in zebrafish embryos, effects that intensified with higher LiPF6 concentrations. Whole-mount in situ hybridization demonstrated that the specific expression of the swim bladder outer mesothelium marker anxa5b was suppressed in the swim bladder region under LiPF6 exposure. Transcriptomic analysis disclosed an upregulation of apoptosis-related gene sets. Acridine orange staining further supported significant induction of apoptosis. These findings underscore the environmental and health risks of LiPF6 exposure and highlight the necessity for improved waste management strategies for lithium-ion batteries.

Introduction: A strong association was previously established between body mass index (BMI) and female reproductive system tumors; however, the causal relationship is unclear. We conducted a Mendelian randomization (MR) study to further explore this association. Methods: Genetic information for BMI was retrieved from a published genome-wide association study involving 339,224 participants. Genetic associations with five common female reproductive system tumors were obtained from the FinnGen, UK Biobank studies, and other large consortia. Results: Genetic predisposition towards BMI exhibits a significant association with multiple tumors of the female reproductive system. Specifically, for every 1-unit increase in BMI log-transformed odds ratio (OR). The OR fluctuations overall for patients with breast cancer ranged from 0.661 to 0.996 (95% confidence interval [CI],0.544-1.000, P < 0.05). When stratified by estrogen receptor (ER) status, the OR for patients with ER (+) breast cancer ranged from 0.782 to 0.844 (95% CI, 0.616-0.994, P < 0.05) and that for those with ER (-) breast cancer ranged from 0.663 to 0.789 (95% CI, 0.498-0.991, P < 0.05). Additionally, ORs were as follows for cancer types: 1.577-1.908 (95% CI, 1.049-2.371, P < 0.05) for endometrial carcinoma; 1.216-1.303 (95% CI, 1.021-1.591, P < 0.05) for high-grade serous ovarian cancer; 1.217 (95% CI, 1.034-1.432, P < 0.05) for low-grade malignant serous ovarian cancer; and 1.502 (95% CI, 1.112-2.029, P < 0.05) for endometrioid ovarian carcinoma. Furthermore, our findings indicated that genetic predisposition towards BMI did not exhibit a causal association with uterine fibroids, cervical precancerous lesions, or cervical cancer itself. Conclusion: A genetic association was established between a high BMI and high risk of developing multiple tumors of the female reproductive system and their associated subtypes. This underscores the significance of taking measures to prevent reproductive system tumors in women who have a high BMI.

Microglia activation-induced neuroinflammation is a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction in the hippocampus during the early stages of neurodegenerative diseases. Exercise is an intrinsic remedy that plays a crucial role in enhancing the survival of neurons and reducing neuroinflammation in the brain. Among these theories, alterations in intracellular signaling pathways associated with neuronal growth and inflammation have been emphasized. Based on these observations and recent evidence demonstrating the beneficial effects of exercise on suppressing brain inflammation in the elderly, we examined cellular signaling pathways in the hippocampal formation of D-galactose-induced accelerated aging mice that underwent 8 weeks of treadmill exercise. To accomplish this, we utilized immunohistochemistry and Western blotting to detect the expression of hippocampal proteins, and qPCR to detect the expression of mRNA. We found that aerobic exercise significantly promoted the survival of hippocampal neurons, inhibited microglia activation, and decreased the expression of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1α, IL-1ß, and chemokines CXCL-1, CXCR-2 in D-galactose model mice. Furthermore, exercise contributed to decreasing the microglia activation marker Iba1-positive cell count and average optical density and increasing the number of NeuN-immunopositive cells. Exercise also reduced RIPK1 and MAP3K5 expression in the hippocampus. Surprisingly, aerobic exercise significantly decreased the expression ratios of p-p65/p65, p-IκBα/IκBα, and p-JNK/JNK. Therefore, we hypothesized that exercise has an anti-inflammatory effect on the hippocampus of mice in the D-galactose-induced aging model. This effect may be attributed to the ability of aerobic exercise to down-regulate the RIPK1-mediated NF-κB and JNK pathways.

The magneto-optical response of chiral materials holds significant potential for applications in physics, chemistry, and biology. However, exploration of the near-infrared (NIR) magneto-optical response remains limited. Herein, we report the synthesis and strong NIR-II magneto-optical activity of three pairs of chiral 3d-4f clusters of R/S-Ln15Cu54 (Ln = Sm, Gd, and Dy). Structural analysis reveals that R/S-Ln15Cu54 features a triangular prism cage with C3 symmetry. Interestingly, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra exhibit remarkable magneto-optical response in the NIR-II region, driven by the f-f transition. The maximum g-factor of R/S-Sm15Cu54 reaches 5.5 × 10-3 T-1 around 1300-1450 nm, surpassing values associated with DyIII and CuII ions. This remarkable NIR-II magneto-optical activity may be attributed to strong magnetic-dipole-allowed f-f transitions and helix chirality of the structure. This work not only presents the largest Ln-Cu clusters to date but also demonstrate the key role of magnetic-dipole-allowed transitions on magneto-optical activity.

The development of high-performance organic photovoltaic materials is of crucial importance for the commercialization of organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, two structurally simple donor-π-conjugated linker-acceptor (D-π-A)-configured small-molecule donors with methyl-substituted triphenylamine as D unit, 1,1-dicyanomethylene-3-indanone as A unit, and thiophene or furan as π-conjugated linker, named DTICPT and DTICPF, are developed. DTICPT and DTICPF are facilely prepared via a two-step synthetic process with simple procedures. DTICPF with a furan π-conjugated linker exhibits stronger and broader optical absorption, deeper highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels, and better charge transport, compared to its thiophene analog DTICPT. As a result, vacuum-deposited OSCs based on DTICPF: C70 show an impressive power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.36% (certified 9.15%) with short-circuit current density (Jsc) up to 17.49 mA cm-2 (certified 17.56 mA cm-2), which is the highest Jsc reported so far for vacuum-deposited OSCs. Besides, devices based on DTICPT: C70 and DTICPF: C70 exhibit excellent long-term stability under different aging conditions. This work offers important insights into the rational design of D-π-A configured small-molecule donors for high efficient and stable vacuum-deposited OSCs.

An unusual spiroannulation/cycloisomerization cascade of 3-(2-ethynylaryl)-N-tosylaziridines with indoles enabled by cooperative gold/scandium catalysis is presented, which facilitates the synthesis of 5H-benzo[b]carbazoles in moderate to excellent yields. This protocol features a broad substrate scope and good functional-group compatibility. Additionally, the resulting 5H-benzo[b]carbazoles exhibit good fluorescence properties, demonstrating the synthetic practicality of this method. Moreover, control experiments were performed to illustrate the reaction mechanism.

Adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration (ADR) is a promising cooling technology with high efficiency and exceptional stability in achieving ultralow temperatures, playing an indispensable role at the forefront of fundamental and applied science. However, a significant challenge for ADR is that existing magnetic refrigerants struggle to concurrently achieve low magnetic ordering temperatures (T0) and substantial magnetic entropy changes (-ΔSm) at ultralow temperatures. In this work, we propose the combination of Gd3+ and Yb3+ to effectively regulate both -ΔSm and T0 in ultralow temperatures. Notably, the -ΔSm values for Gd0.1Yb0.9F3 (1) and Gd0.3Yb0.7F3 (2) in the 0.4-1.0 K range exceed those of all previously reported magnetic refrigerants within this temperature interval, positioning them as the most efficient magnetic refrigerants for the third stage to date. Although the -ΔSm values for Gd0.5Yb0.5F3 (3) in 1-4 K are less than those of the leading magnetic refrigerant Gd(OH)F2, the -ΔSm values for Gd0.7Yb0.3F3 (4) in 1-4 K at 2 T surpass those of all magnetic refrigerants previously documented within the same temperature range, making it the superior magnetic refrigerant for the fourth stage identified thus far.

Bacterial keratitis is a serious ocular infection that can impair vision or even cause blindness. The clinical use of antibiotics is limited due to their low bioavailability and drug resistance. Hence, there is a need to develop a novel drug delivery system for this infectious disease. In this study, erythromycin (EM) was encapsulated into a bifunctional polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (BPOSS) with the backbone of the poly-PEG/PPG urethane (BPEP) hydrogel with the aim of improving the drug efficiency in treating bacterial keratitis. A comprehensive characterization of the BPEP hydrogel was performed, and its biocompatibility was assessed. Furthermore, we carried out the evaluation of the antimicrobial effect of the BPEP-EM hydrogel in S. aureus keratitis using in vivo mouse model. The BPEP hydrogel exhibited self-assembling and thermogelling properties, which assisted the drug loading of drug EM and improved its water solubility. Furthermore, the BPEP hydrogel could effectively bind with mucin on the ocular surface, thereby markedly prolonging the ocular residence time of EM. In vivo testing confirmed that the BPEP-EM hydrogel exerted a potent therapeutic action in the mouse model of bacterial keratitis. In addition, the hydrogel also exhibited an excellent biocompatibility. Our findings demonstrate that the BPEP-EM hydrogel showed a superior therapeutic effect in bacterial keratitis and demonstrated its potential as an ophthalmic formulation.

This study sequenced the complete chloroplast genomes of Stephania japonica var. timoriensis and Stephania japonica var. discolor using the Illumina NovaSeq and PacBio RSII platforms. Following sequencing, the genomes were assembled, annotated, comparatively analyzed, and used to construct a phylogenetic tree to explore their phylogenetic positions. Results indicated that the chloroplast genomes of S. japonica var. timoriensis and S. japonica var. discolor both displayed a typical double-stranded circular tetrameric structure, measuring 157,609 and 157,748 bp in length, respectively. Each genome contained 130 annotated genes, with similar total GC content and relative codon usage patterns, showing a distinct preference for A/U at the third codon position. Simple sequence repeat analysis identified 207 and 211 repeats in S. japonica var. timoriensis and S. japonica var. discolor, respectively, primarily the A/T type. Boundary condition analysis indicated no significant expansion or contraction in the inverted repeat regions with consistent gene types and locations across both varieties. Nucleotide polymorphism analysis highlighted greater variation in the intergenic regions than in the coding sequences of Stephania chloroplast genomes. Phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that the species Stephania clustered into a distinct, well-supported clade. Notably, Stephania japonica, along with S. japonica var. discolor and S. japonica var. timoriensis, established a monophyletic lineage. Within this lineage, S. japonica and S. japonica var. discolor were closely related, with S. japonica var. timoriensis serving as their sister taxon.

Open hollow dodecahedral cage clusters have long been a coveted target in synthetic chemistry, yet their creation poses immense challenges. Here we report two open hollow dodecahedral lanthanide-aluminum (Ln-Al) heterometallic cage clusters, namely, [Ln210Al140(µ2-OH)210(µ3-OH)540(OAc)180(H2O)156](ClO4)120·(MeCN)x·(H2O)y, (Ln = Dy and x = 27, y = 300 for 1; Ln = Y and x = 28, y = 420 for 2). Remarkably, the 350 metal atoms in 1 and 2 display a Keplerate-type four-shell structure of truncated icosidodecahedron@dodecahedron@dodecahedron@icosidodecahedron. The diameter of the cationic cluster in 1 is approximately 5.0 nm, with an inner cavity diameter of about 2.8 nm and a window diameter of roughly 0.66 nm. The cluster in 1 boasts an accessible inner void volume of up to 15,000 Å3. Notably, these cage clusters maintain stability in water, and the truncated icosidodecahedrons in 1 and 2 are the first of their kind synthesized to date. Given that the open hollow dodecahedral Ln-Al cage cluster has never been reported before, this work represents a member in the family of hollow open dodecahedral cages.

BACKGROUND: Maternal uniparental disomy for chromosome 6 (upd(Cajaiba MM, Witchel S, Madan-Khetarpal S, Hoover J, Hoffner L, Macpherson T, et al. Prenatal diagnosis of trisomy 6 rescue resulting in paternal UPD6 with novel placental findings. Am J Med Genet Part A. 2011;155 A(8):1996-2002.)mat) has been previously reported to cause intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), but the specific clinical phenotype has not been defined. Based on clinical data from two new cases and patients from the literature, specific phenotypes and mechanisms will be discussed further. CASE PRESENTATION: In case 1, a maternal isodisomy mixed with a heterodisomy was found on chromosome 6, including a regional absence of heterozygosity between 6q23.3 and 6q27. In case 2, a homozygous SCUBE3 mutation and upd(Cajaiba MM, Witchel S, Madan-Khetarpal S, Hoover J, Hoffner L, Macpherson T, et al. Pathological cardiac hypertrophy, a major contributor to heart failure, is closely linked to mitochondrial function. The roles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), which regulate mitochondrial function, remain largely unexplored in this context. Herein, a previously unknown lncRNA, Gm20257, was identified. It markedly increased under hypertrophic stress in vivo and in vitro. The suppression of Gm20257 by using small interfering RNAs significantly induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Conversely, the overexpression of Gm20257 through plasmid transfection or adeno-associated viral vector-9 mitigated angiotensin II-induced hypertrophic phenotypes in neonatal mouse ventricular cells or alleviated cardiac hypertrophy in a mouse TAC model respectively, thus restoring cardiac function. Importantly, Gm20257 restored mitochondrial complex IV level and enhanced mitochondrial function. Bioinformatics prediction showed that Gm20257 had a high binding score with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor coactivator-1 (PGC-1α), which could increase mitochondrial complex IV. Subsequently, Western blot analysis results revealed that Gm20257 substantially affected the expression of PGC-1α. Further analyses through RNA immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting following RNA pull-down indicated that PGC-1α was a direct downstream target of Gm20257. This interaction was demonstrated to rescue the reduction of mitochondrial complex IV induced by hypertrophic stress and promote the generation of mitochondrial ATP. These findings suggest that Gm20257 improves mitochondrial function through the PGC-1α-mitochondrial complex IV axis, offering a novel approach for attenuating pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

Background: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) has increasing incidence and is one of the most common malignant tumors. The mitochondria involved in cell energy metabolism, oxygen free radical generation, and cell apoptosis play important roles in tumorigenesis and progression. The relationship between mitochondrial genes and COAD remains largely unknown. Methods: COAD data including 512 samples were set out from the UCSC Xena database. The nuclear mitochondrial-related genes (NMRGs)-related risk prognostic model and prognostic nomogram were constructed, and NMRGs-related gene mutation and the immune environment were analyzed using bioinformatics methods. Then, a liver metastasis model of colorectal cancer was constructed and protein expression was detected using Western blot assay. Results: A prognostic model for COAD was constructed. Comparing the prognostic model dataset and the validation dataset showed considerable correlation in both risk grouping and prognosis. Based on the risk score (RS) model, the samples of the prognostic dataset were divided into high risk group and low risk group. Moreover, pathologic N and T stage and tumor recurrence in the two risk groups were significantly different. The four prognostic factors, including age and pathologic T stage in the nomogram survival model also showed excellent predictive performance. An optimal combination of nine differentially expressed NMRGs was finally obtained, including LARS2, PARS2, ETHE1, LRPPRC, TMEM70, AARS2, ACAD9, VARS2, and ATP8A2. The high-RS group had more inflamed immune features, including T and CD4+ memory cell activation. Besides, mitochondria-associated LRPPRC and LARS2 expression levels were increased in vivo xenograft construction and liver metastases assays. Conclusion: This study established a comprehensive prognostic model for COAD, incorporating nine genes associated with nuclear-mitochondrial functions. This model demonstrates superior predictive performance across four prognostic factors: age, pathological T stage, tumor recurrence, and overall prognosis. It is anticipated to be an effective model for enhancing the prognosis and treatment of COAD.

Adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration is known to be the only cryogenic refrigeration technology that can achieve ultralow temperatures (≪1 K) at gravity-free conditions. The key indexes to evaluate the performance of magnetic refrigerants are their magnetic entropy changes (-ΔSm) and magnetic ordering temperature (T0). Although, based on the factors affecting the -ΔSm of magnetic refrigerants, one has been able to judge if a magnetic refrigerant has a large -ΔSm, how to accurately predict their T0 remains a huge challenge due to the fact that the T0 of magnetic refrigerants is related to not only magnetic exchange but also single-ion anisotropy and magnetic dipole interaction. Here, we, taking GdCO3F (1), Gd(HCOO)F2, Gd2(SO4)3·8H2O, GdF3, Gd(HCOO)3 and Gd(OH)3 as examples, demonstrate that the T0 of magnetic refrigerants with very weak magnetic interactions and small anisotropy can be accurately predicted by integrating mean-field approximation with quantum Monte Carlo simulations, providing an effective method for predicting the T0 of ultralow-temperature magnetic refrigerants. Thus, the present work lays a solid foundation for the rational design and preparation of ultralow-temperature magnetic refrigerants in the future.

Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are common human birth defects. Genetic mutations potentially cause the exhibition of various pathological phenotypes associated with CHDs, occurring alone or as part of certain syndromes. Zebrafish, a model organism with a strong molecular conservation similar to humans, is commonly used in studies on cardiovascular diseases owing to its advantageous features, such as a similarity to human electrophysiology, transparent embryos and larvae for observation, and suitability for forward and reverse genetics technology, to create various economical and easily controlled zebrafish CHD models. In this review, we outline the pros and cons of zebrafish CHD models created by genetic mutations associated with single defects and syndromes and the underlying pathogenic mechanism of CHDs discovered in these models. The challenges of zebrafish CHD models generated through gene editing are also discussed, since the cardiac phenotypes resulting from a single-candidate pathological gene mutation in zebrafish might not mirror the corresponding human phenotypes. The comprehensive review of these zebrafish CHD models will facilitate the understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of CHDs and offer new opportunities for their treatments and intervention strategies.

Keggin-Fe13 clusters are considered foundational building blocks or prenucleation precursors of ferrihydrite. Understanding the factors that influence the rotational configuration of these clusters, and their transformations in water, is vital for comprehending the formation mechanism of ferrihydrite. Here, we report syntheses and crystal structures of four lanthanide-iron-oxo clusters, namely, [Dy6Fe13(Gly)12(µ2-OH)6(µ3-OH)18(µ4-O)4(H2O)17]·13ClO4·19H2O (1), [Dy6Fe13(Gly)12(µ3-OH)24(µ4-O)4(H2O)18]·13ClO4·14H2O (2), [Pr8Fe34(Gly)24(µ3-OH)28(µ3-O)30(µ4-O)4(H2O)30]·6ClO4·20H2O (3), and [Pr6Fe13(Gly)12(µ3-OH)24(µ4-O)4(H2O)18]·13ClO4·22H2O (4, Gly = glycine). Single-crystal analyses reveal that 1 has a ß-Keggin-Fe13 cluster, marking the first documented instance of such a cluster to date. Conversely, both 2 and 4 contain an α-Keggin-Fe13 cluster, while 3 is characterized by four hexavacant ε-Keggin-Fe13 clusters. Magnetic property investigations of 1 and 2 show that 2 exhibits ferromagnetic interactions, while 1 exhibits antiferromagnetic interactions. An exploration of the synthetic conditions for 1 and 2 indicates that a higher pH promotes the formation of α-Keggin-Fe13 clusters, while a lower pH favors ß-Keggin-Fe13 clusters. A detailed analysis of the transition from 3 to 4 emphasizes that lacunary Keggin-Fe13 clusters can morph into Keggin-Fe13 clusters with a decrease in pH, accompanied by a significant change in their rotational configuration.

Background: Cynanchum paniculatum (Bunge) Kitag. ex H.Hara, a member of the Asclepiadaceae family, has a rich history as a traditional Chinese medicinal plant used to treat digestive disorders. However, its potential anti-cancer effects in pancreatic cancer remain largely unexplored. Aim: This study delves into the intricate anti-pancreatic cancer mechanisms of C. paniculatum (Bunge) Kitag. ex H.Hara aqueous extract (CPAE) by elucidating its role in apoptosis induction and the inhibition of invasion and migration. Methods: A comprehensive set of methodologies was employed to assess CPAE's impact, including cell viability analyses using MTT and colony formation assays, flow cytometry for cell cycle distribution and apoptosis assessment, scratch-wound and Matrigel invasion assays for migration and invasion capabilities, and immunoblotting to measure the expression levels of key proteins involved in apoptosis and metastasis. Additionally, a murine xenograft model was established to investigate CPAE's in vivo anti-cancer potential. Results: CPAE exhibited time- and dose-dependent suppression of proliferation and colony formation in pancreatic cancer cells. Notably, CPAE induced apoptosis and G2/M phase arrest, effectively activating the caspase-dependent PARP pathway. At non-cytotoxic doses, CPAE significantly curtailed the metastatic abilities of pancreatic cells, effectively suppressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and downregulating the TGF-ß1/Smad2/3 pathway. In vivo experiments underscored CPAE's ability to inhibit tumor proliferation. Conclusion: This study illuminates the multifaceted anti-proliferative, pro-apoptotic, anti-invasive, and anti-migratory effects of CPAE, both in vitro and in vivo. CPAE emerges as a promising herbal medicine for pancreatic cancer treatment, with its potential mediated through apoptosis induction via the caspase-dependent PARP pathway and MET suppression via the TGF-ß1/Smad2/3 signaling pathway at non-cytotoxic doses. These findings advocate for further exploration of CPAE's therapeutic potential in pancreatic cancer.

Here we report on the strong magneto-chiral dichroism (MChD) detected through visible and near-infrared light absorption up to 5.0 T on {Er5Ni6} metal clusters obtained by reaction of enantiopure chiral ligands and NiII and ErIII precursors. Single-crystal diffraction analysis reveals that these compounds are 3d-4f heterometallic clusters, showing helical chirality. MChD spectroscopy reveals a high gMChD dissymmetry factor of ca. 0.24 T-1 (T = 4.0 K, B = 1.0 T) for the 4I13/2 ← 4I15/2 magnetic-dipole allowed electronic transition of the ErIII centers. This record value is 1 or 2 orders of magnitude higher than that of the d-d electronic transitions of the NiII ions and the others f-f electric-dipole induced transitions of the ErIII centers. These findings clearly show the key role that magnetic-dipole allowed transitions have in the rational design of chiral lanthanide systems showing strong MChD.

Porcine circoviruses (PCVs) are a significant cause of concern for swine health, with four genotypes currently recognized. Two of these, PCV3 and PCV4, have been detected in pigs across all age groups, in both healthy and diseased animals. These viruses have been associated with various clinical manifestations, including porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS) and respiratory and enteric signs. In this study, we detected PCV3 and PCV4 in central China between January 2022 and February 2023. We tested fecal swabs and tissue samples from growing-finishing and suckling pigs with or without respiratory and systemic manifestations and found the prevalence of PCV3 to be 15.15% (15/99) and that of PCV3/PCV4 coinfection to be 4.04% (4/99). This relatively low prevalence might be attributed to the fact that most of the clinical samples were collected from pigs exhibiting respiratory signs, with only a few samples having been obtained from pigs with diarrhea. In some cases, PCV2 was also detected, and the coinfection rates of PCV2/3, PCV2/4, and PCV2/3/4 were 6.06% (6/99), 5.05% (5/99), and 3.03% (3/99), respectively. The complete genomic sequences of four PCV3 and two PCV4 isolates were determined. All four of the PCV3 isolates were of subtype PCV3b, and the two PCV4 isolates were of subtype PCV4b. Two mutations (A24V and R27K) were found in antibody recognition domains of PCV3, suggesting that they might be associated with immune escape. This study provides valuable insights into the molecular epidemiology and evolution of PCV3 and PCV4 that will be useful in future investigations of genotyping, immunogenicity, and immune evasion strategies.

Polysaccharides from medicinal plant resources are a kind of polymers extracted from medicinal plants. They are complex long chains formed by different monosaccharides connected via glucosidic bonds. These polysaccharides usually have straight chain and branched chain structures, and their relative molecular weight changes greatly. Modern studies have shown that the biological activi-ty of polysaccharides from medicinal plant resources is closely related to their relative molecular weight. This paper first reviewed the preparation and detection methods of polysaccharides from medicinal plant resources with different relative molecular weights. Then, the paper summarized and analyzed the general experience of the correlation between efficacy and relative molecular weight of polysaccharides from medicinal plant resources with different molecular weights. It was considered that polysaccharides with large relative molecular weights(>100 kDa) play a leading role in immune regulation. Polysaccharides with medium relative molecular weights(10-100 kDa) play a leading role in immune regulation and the protection of the liver. Polysaccharides with small relative molecular weights(<10 kDa) play a leading role in anti-oxidation, regulation of intestinal flora, regulation of blood glucose and lipids, anti-fatigue, and the protection of nerves. Therefore, precise development of polysaccharides from medicinal plant resources based on relative molecular weight is expected to improve their biological activity and application value.
