BACKGROUND: Home quarantine as a non-pharmaceutical measure is a key strategy for preventing the spread of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and herpangina (HA). However, the status of home quarantine remains unclear. This study aimed to provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of the HFMD and HA by investigating the situation and determining the factors influencing home quarantine in children with HFMD or HA. METHODS: The convenience sampling method was used in this cross-sectional study involving parents whose children suffered from HFMD or HA in 2019. An online questionnaire tool was used to collect demographic information, socioeconomic status, clinical factors, sources of advice, and details of home quarantine. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the factors influencing of home quarantine. RESULTS: A total of 3145 parents answered the electronic questionnaire; among them, 317 had children diagnosed with HFMD or HA in 2019. After quality control, 298 questionnaires were included in the analysis. The whole compliance rate of home quarantine for HFMD and HA was 59.1%. Results of multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that having grandparents as the primary caregiver (OR=2.53, 95% CI: 1.20-5.43) was a risk factor of home-quarantine noncompliance, whereas doctor's notification (OR=0.35, 95% CI: 0.18-0.67) and advice from parents of other infected children (OR=0.53, 95% CI: 0.31-0.91) can increase the compliance with home quarantine. CONCLUSIONS: Home-quarantine measures for HFMD and HA were not well implemented. The caregivers, doctor's notification, and advice from parents of other infected children were associated with home-quarantine compliance. Corresponding measures should be taken to regulate home quarantine.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The Scutellaria barbata and Hedyotis diffusa (SH) herb pair is extensively used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for efficacy enhancement in cancer treatment in China and Asian countries. Superior clinical efficacy observations based on high dosages (≥60 g) motivated us to explore appropriate dosages and the underlying mechanisms of action. AIM OF THE STUDY: To explore the efficacy and potential mechanisms of actions of SH through in vitro and in vivo experiments and network pharmacology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: SH lyophilized powder (SHLP) was prepared from decoctions and the active ingredients were identified using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Proliferation and migration experiments in vitro and tumor growth in vivo were performed to evaluate the effects of SHLP on breast cancer. Corresponding potential target genes for SHLP components and breast cancer were extracted from established databases and the Protein-Protein Internetwork of shared genes were constructed using STRING database. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) functional annotation clusters were acquired and the top 30 pathways were presented. At last, as one of pathways indicated by enriched results, apoptosis was validated with flow cytometric analysis and caspase-3, 8, 9 activities. RESULTS: Seventy-five ingredients were identified from SHLP by HPLC. High SHLP doses inhibited proliferation and migration of three types of breast cancer cells in vitro and tumor growth in nude mice. After target genes extraction and intersection, the top 30 KEGG clusters were enriched, including PI3K-Akt, cell cycle and other related pathways like VEGF, Micro-RNAs and NF-κB, besides, key genes in apoptosis were mapped. In the last, apoptosis was validated by flow cytometric analysis and caspase-3, 8, 9 activities after SHLP treatment. CONCLUSION: High SHLP dosages inhibited breast cancer in vitro and in vivo, enriched by network pharmacology and confirmed by flow cytometric analysis and caspase activation, with apoptosis was identified as one of the mechanisms of action of SHLP. SHLP administration with higher doses is recommended for clinical usage.

Although the anisotropy and strategies for the modulation of the anisotropy in ReS2 have been widely reported, a comprehensive study on the inherent electronic anisotropy of ReS2 is still absent to date; therefore, the mechanism of anisotropy evolution is ambiguous as well. In this study, we have conducted a systematic investigation on the evolution of electronic anisotropy in bilayer ReS2, under the modulation of charge doping levels and temperature. It is found that the adjustability of electronic anisotropy is largely attributed to the angle-dependent scattering from defects or vacancies at a low doping level. At a high doping level, in contrast, the inherent electronic anisotropy can be recovered by filling the traps to attenuate the influence of scattering. This work renders insights into the exploration of electronic anisotropy in 2D materials.

Apraxia of eyelid opening (AEO) is a disabling syndrome characterized by inability to open the eyes at will, and patients occasionally attempt to open their eyes by contracting the frontalis muscles and touching their eye lids with their fingers. The exact pathophysiological mechanisms underlying this syndrome remain unknown. Previous reports suggest that AEO is often associated with blepharospasm and is occasionally seen in patients with Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders. These reports suggest that AEO may be caused by lesions at the basal ganglia. In this report, we show a video of typical AEO.

PURPOSE: The nursing concept has changed from being "disease centered" to "patient centered". The aim of this study was to explore the clinical effects of a fast track surgery nursing program in the perioperative care of older patients with a hip fracture. METHODS: Total of 84 patients with hip fracture who were hospitalized in our department were randomly divided into the conventional group (42 cases) and fast track surgery group (42 cases) to compare the psychological state, pain degree, serum inflammatory factors, coagulation, hip function, and incidence of deep venous thrombosis of lower extremities between the groups before and after the nursing program. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between groups as measured by a self-rating anxiety scale, self-rating depression scale, visual analogue score, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, coagulation factor level, or Harris score between groups before nursing (P > 0.05). The self-rating anxiety scale, self-rating depression scale, visual analogue score, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-a, coagulation factor level, and deep venous thrombosis in fast track surgery group after nursing were significantly lower than in the conventional group, and the Harris score was significantly higher (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The fast track surgery nursing program can effectively alleviate adverse emotions and pain of patients with a hip fracture, reduce inflammation, improve coagulation and hip function after operation, and reduce the incidence of deep venous thrombosis after operation.

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect and mechanism of Huayu Wan (, HYW) in combination of chemotherapy of tumor treatment. METHODS: HYW serum was added in Lewis cells to assess its impact on fluorescent doxorubicin delivery in vitro. Then, Lewis tumor cells was implanted in C57BL/6 mice via xenograft transplantation. Tumor growth was measured and signal intensity corresponding to blood flow was assessed by laser doppler perfusion imaging (LDPI). Finally, the effect of HYW on the effificacy of doxorubicin was studied. RESULTS: HYW can improve the transfer of fluorescent doxorubicin into cells. The blood flow signal in the tumor tissues of the HYW group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). Furthermore, HYW improved drug delivery of doxorubicin to tumor tissues, and this activity was associated with HYW-induced microvascular proliferation (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: HYW can promote microangiogenesis and increase blood supply in tumor tissues, which in turn may increase the risk of metastasis. At the same time, HYW increases drug delivery and improves the effificacy of chemotherapy drugs through vascular proliferation. Therefore, rational judgment must be exercised when considering applying HYW to an antitumor regimen.

Most of the current object detection approaches deliver competitive results with an assumption that a large number of labeled data are generally available and can be fed into a deep network at once. However, due to expensive labeling efforts, it is difficult to deploy the object detection systems into more complex and challenging real-world environments, especially for defect detection in real industries. In order to reduce the labeling efforts, this study proposes an active learning framework for defect detection. First, an Uncertainty Sampling is proposed to produce the candidate list for annotation. Uncertain images can provide more informative knowledge for the learning process. Then, an Average Margin method is designed to set the sampling scale for each defect category. In addition, an iterative pattern of training and selection is adopted to train an effective detection model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can render the required performance with fewer labeled data.

RESUMO

Quantum teleportation transfers and processes quantum information through quantum entanglement channels. It is one of the most versatile protocols in quantum information science and leads to many remarkable applications, particularly the one-way quantum computing. Here, we show, for the first time, that the concept of teleportation can also be used to facilitate an important classical computing task, sampling random quantum circuits, which is highly relevant to prove the near-term demonstration of quantum computational supremacy. In our method, the classical computation in the physical-qubit state space is converted to simulate teleportation in logical-qubit state space, resulting in a much smaller number of qubits involved in classical computing. We tested this new method on 1D and 2D lattices up to 1000 qubits. This Letter presents a new quantum-inspired classical computing technology and is helpful to design and optimize classically hard quantum sampling experiments.

Metallic surface defect detection is an essential and necessary process to control the qualities of industrial products. However, due to the limited data scale and defect categories, existing defect datasets are generally unavailable for the deployment of the detection model. To address this problem, we contribute a new dataset called GC10-DET for large-scale metallic surface defect detection. The GC10-DET dataset has great challenges on defect categories, image number, and data scale. Besides, traditional detection approaches are poor in both efficiency and accuracy for the complex real-world environment. Thus, we also propose a novel end-to-end defect detection network (EDDN) based on the Single Shot MultiBox Detector. The EDDN model can deal with defects with different scales. Furthermore, a hard negative mining method is designed to alleviate the problem of data imbalance, while some data augmentation methods are adopted to enrich the training data for the expensive data collection problem. Finally, the extensive experiments on two datasets demonstrate that the proposed method is robust and can meet accuracy requirements for metallic defect detection.

In order to identify genes involved in the development of inner ear hair cells, we investigated the role of the transcription factor Islet-class LIM-homeodomain (LIM-HD) 1 (Isl1) in the development of the mouse prosensory region. Isl1 was deleted using the Pax2-Cre system, and deletion of both alleles was verified using cochlea sections. Changes in the number of prosensory region cells were measured to determine the effect of Isl1 on the development of the mouse prosensory region. In order to test whether Isl1 formed a protein complex with Ldb1 and Gata3, co-immunoprecipitation experiments were performed in HEK293 cells using the Flag-tagged LIM-domain of Isl1, HA-tagged LID of Ldb1 and Myc-tagged C-terminal domain of Gata3. The expression of Gata3, Sox2, Jag1 and P27 proteins in the prosensory region were not affected in Isl1-/- prosensory cells. Thus, Isl1 did not form a protein complex with Gata3 through Ldb1 in the Isl1-/- cells. Our results suggest that Isl1 may be dispensable for the development of the mouse prosensory region.

Many recent efforts on the electrode design for advanced Li-ion batteries (LIBs) are often devoted to increasing the gravimetric capacity, but little attention is paid to the volumetric capacity which is more critical for practical application. Though the alloying-type anode materials are quite attractive, the challenge is that they must be composited with a large amount of carbon materials (e.g., GO, rGO, CNT) to buffer their large volume change, which would undoubtedly sacrifice the volumetric energy density of the whole electrode due to the carbon's low tap density (∼0.05 g/cm3). Herein, we propose the unique layered Sb2Te3, which possesses high conductivity and a large volumetric capacity (3419 mAh/cm3), to be served as the alternative anode for LIBs. Furthermore, we introduce natural graphite, which is low price and with high density (2.25 g/cm3), into Sb2Te3 to successfully build a novel Sb2Te3@Gra composite in which the Sb2Te3 particles are wrapped by graphite layers. Interestingly, this modified Sb2Te3@Gra exhibits much more superior cycle stability (570 mAh/g after 200 cycles, 96% retention) than pure Sb2Te3 (130 mAh/g after 200 cycles, 22% retention), while keeping its original large volumetric capacity output (∼3200 mAh/cm3) at the same time. More specially, it enables a reversible structure recovery of Sb2Te3, guaranteeing the electrode integrity and cyclability. These extraordinary phenomena are investigated in detail, whose results display that the outer graphite layer plays an important role by facilitating the intimate contact with Sb2Te3 particles and protecting them from pulverization. Besides, such graphite layer greatly promotes the electron-transfer during lithiation, helping to improve the rate capability (372 mAh/g at 2000 mA/g, 60% retention). Consequently, the assembled Sb2Te3//LiCoO2 full cell delivers a large capacity of 500 mAh/g, with stable discharge plateau and cycle stability, revealing its high potential for practical application.

BACKGROUND: Nausea and vomiting are the most common complications following chemotherapy and usually lead to decreased quality of life. Acupuncture therapy is an effective method for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), the effects and safety have been observed by many clinicians and demonstrated in a systematic review, which was included in the Cochrane Library in 2014. After several years, new studies have occurred and an updated systematic evaluation is needed. This protocol describes a method for performing a systematic review and meta-analysis to further evaluate the beneficial effects and safety of acupuncture for CINV. METHODS: A searching strategy will be carried out mainly in eight databases in English and Chinese, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, the Wanfang database, China Doctoral Dissertations Full-text Database, and China Master's Theses Full-text Database. Only randomized controlled trials related to acupuncture for CINV will be included to enhance the effectiveness. The effective percentage will be used as primary outcome. Changes in the symptoms of nausea and vomiting, like severity, duration, and frequency as well as quality of life will be assessed as secondary outcome. Side effects and adverse events will be used as safety evaluations. To ensure the quality of the systematic evaluation, study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment will be independently performed by 2 authors, and the third author will deal with any disagreement. The Review Manager V.5.3.3 s will be used to perform the data synthesis and subgroup analysis. RESULTS: There are additional studies, further explanations and more subgroup analyses compared with the previous systematic analysis to determine the effects and safety of acupuncture for CINV. CONCLUSION: The result of this systematic review may offer clinicians stronger evidence to assist patient in relieving CINV. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: There is no need to acquire ethical approval for individuals come from literatures instead of recruiting directly. The findings of this review will be reported in peer-reviewed publications and/or presented at relevant conferences TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER:: CRD42016045223.

This work explored a novel type of potential multi-targeting antimicrobial three-component sulfanilamide hybrids in combination of pyrimidine and azoles. The hybridized target molecules were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HRMS spectra. Some of the developed target compounds exerted promising antimicrobial activity in comparison with the reference drugs norfloxacin and fluconazole. Noticeably, sulfanilamide hybrid 5c with pyrimidine and indole could effectively inhibit the growth of E. faecalis with MIC value of 1 µg/mL. The active molecule 5c showed low cell toxicity and did not obviously trigger the development of resistance towards the tested bacteria strains. Mechanism exploration indicated that compound 5c could not only exert efficient membrane permeability, but also intercalate into DNA of resistant E. faecalis to form 5c-DNA supramolecular complex, which might be responsible for its antimicrobial action. The further investigation showed that this molecule could be effectively transported by human serum albumins through hydrogen bonds and van der Waals force.

BACKGROUND: Yin-deficiency-heat (YDH) syndrome is a subhealth state of the individual, mainly manifested as oral ulcers, dry mouth, constipation, and other symptoms. Zhibai Dihuang granule (ZDG), as a classic traditional Chinese medicine, is effective in treating YDH syndrome. We screened the potential biomarkers for diagnosing YDH syndrome, and explored the mechanisms of the therapeutic effect of ZDG. METHODS: Plasma samples from the Pinghe (PH, healthy control) group, the Shanghuo (SH, YDH syndrome) group, and the ZDG treated group (therapeutic group) were analyzed by using metabolomics profiling. The data were analyzed by multivariate statistical and bioinformatics analyses. RESULTS: We screened four differential metabolites such as, decanoylcarnitine, dodecanoylcarnitine, phosphatidylcholine (PC), and Aspartate (Asp) Arginine (Arg) Proline (Pro) in the SH group and the PH group. The results showed that the combination of above four metabolites could serve as a potential biomarker for the early diagnosis of YDH syndrome. The metabolites decanoylcarnitine and glucose were found to be differentially expressed in the YDH syndrome group and tended to be normalized after ZDG treatment. CONCLUSION: The increased levels of four differential metabolites (decanoylcarnitine, dodecanoylcarnitine, PC, and Asp Arg Pro) revealed that individuals with YDH syndrome may have increased energy metabolism in the body, which could lead to disorders of fatty acids ß-oxidation and immune function. The levels of two differential metabolites including decanoylcarnitine and glucose returned to normal after ZDG treatment, indicating that ZDG could treat YDH syndrome by regulating glucose metabolism and fatty acids ß-oxidation. Our study provides a new method for the diagnosis of YDH syndrome, and may provide theoretical basis for novel therapeutic strategies of YDH syndrome.

Patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) tend to have a long course of anti-TB treatment and severe side effects. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a synergistic effect in attenuation of MDR-TB. However, the lack of objective biological standards to classify and diagnose MDR-TB TCM syndromes could result in less effective TCM treatment. Therefore, in this study, we identified differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in serum of individuals with MDR-TB TCM syndromes by applying isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification coupled with two-dimensional liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (iTRAQ-2DLC-MS/MS) method and bioinformatics analysis. The functional analysis of DEPs was also performed. Additionally, DEPs among three different TCM syndromes of MDR-TB were validated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Finally, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to estimate the diagnostic ability of DEPs. A total of 71 DEPs were identified in the three different MDR-TB TCM syndrome groups such as the pulmonary Yin deficiency (PYD) syndrome group, the Hyperactivity of Fire due to Yin deficiency (HFYD) syndrome group, and the deficiency of Qi and Yin (DQY) syndrome group. The results showed that the expression level of transforming growth factor-beta-induced protein ig-h3 (TGFBI) was lower in the PYD syndrome group (p = .002), the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) was overexpressed in the HFYD syndrome group (p < .0001), and the C-C motif chemokine ligand 14 (CCL14) expression level was reduced in the DQY syndrome group (p = .004). Our study demonstrated that serum TGFBI, PCSK9, and CCL14 may serve as potential novel biomarkers for PYD syndrome, HFYD syndrome and DQY syndrome of MDR-TB, respectively. The study provides a biological basis for MDR-TB TCM syndromes classification and can be of great significance for the treatment of different TCM syndromes.

Yin-deficiency-heat (YDH) syndrome is a common sub-health state of the human body in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). However, due to the lack of objective quantitative diagnostic indicators, patients with early-stage YDH syndrome cannot be treated in time and can develop a pathological (disease) state. Therefore, it is necessary to apply modern diagnostic techniques in order to identify the biological markers for the diagnosis of early-stage YDH syndrome. In the present study, we performed Solexa sequencing and non-targeted metabolomics analysis using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry to screen differentially expressed mRNAs and differential metabolites in individuals with early-stage YDH syndrome and healthy controls. Bioinformatics methods were used to perform enrichment analysis of differentially expressed mRNAs and differential metabolites for biological functions and signaling pathways. Furthermore, we found that differentially expressed mRNAs and differential metabolites were related to energy metabolism. Real-time PCR was used to validate the mRNA expression in the serum of subjects with early-stage YDH syndrome. We found that the mitochondrially encoded NADH dehydrogenase 2 (MT-ND2) mRNA was differentially expressed in the serum of individuals with early-stage YDH syndrome. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate the efficacy of the diagnostic model based on eight differential metabolites. We combined the three metabolites such as Glycine, Sphingomyelin, and Isocitrate to establish the diagnostic model with a sensitivity of 0.853 and a specificity of 0.800. The combination of the above three metabolites may serve as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of early-stage YDH syndrome. Our study reveals potential biomarker for the diagnosis of early-stage YDH syndrome and also provides a new method for the quantification and objectification of TCM syndromes.

Yin-deficiency-heat (YDH) syndrome is a very common subhealth status in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, currently, there is no unified standard for diagnosing YDH syndrome. We applied the iTRAQ-2D LC-MS/MS method to explore the potential of serum protein profiles as biomarker for YDH syndrome. A total of 120 differentially expressed proteins (79 downregulated and 41 upregulated) were identified by the proteomic profiling. The results of KEGG pathway analysis showed that the functions of the differentially expressed proteins were mainly involved in complement and coagulation cascades. The clinical data showed that YDH syndrome was closely related to inflammation and coagulation, compared with the healthy controls. The ELISA validation results indicated that the expression levels of ALB, CFI, and KLKB1 were downregulated in the YDH syndrome group (p < .05). Moreover, we established a decision tree model based on the combination of these three proteins and achieved a sensitivity of 87.5%, a specificity of 84.4%, and AUC of 0.891. The results indicated that the combination of ALB, CFI, and KLKB1 may serve as potential biomarkers for diagnosing YDH syndrome. Our study can provide a new method for YDH syndrome diagnosis, and may also provide an experimental basis to understand the molecular mechanism of YDH syndrome.

Periodic fluorine-doped tin oxide inverse opals (FTO IOs) grafted with CdS nanorods (NRs) and CdSe clusters are reported for improved photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. This hierarchical photoanode is fabricated by a combination of dip-coating, hydrothermal reaction, and chemical bath deposition. The growth of 1D CdS NRs on the periodic walls of 3D FTO IOs forms a unique 3D/1D hierarchical structure, providing a sizeable specific surface area for the loading of CdSe clusters. Significantly, the periodic FTO IOs enable uniform light scattering while the abundant surrounded CdS NRs induce additional random light scattering, combining to give multiple light scattering within the complete hierarchical structure, significantly improving light-harvesting of CdS NRs and CdSe clusters. The high electron collection ability of FTO IOs and the CdS/CdSe heterojunction formation also contribute to the enhanced charge transport and separation. Due to the incorporation of these enhancement strategies in one hierarchical structure, FTO IOs/CdS NRs/CdSe clusters present an improved PEC performance. The photocurrent density of FTO IOs/CdS NRs/CdSe clusters at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode reaches 9.2 mA cm-2 , which is 1.43 times greater than that of CdS NRs/CdSe clusters and 3.83 times of CdS NRs.

Insect neuropeptides play an important role in regulating physiological functions such as growth, development, behavior and reproduction. We identified temperature-sensitive neuropeptides and receptor genes of the cotton whitefly, Bemisia tabaci. We identified 38 neuropeptide precursor genes and 35 neuropeptide receptors and constructed a phylogenetic tree using additional data from other insects. As temperature adaptability enables B. tabaci to colonize a diversity of habitats, we performed quantitative polymerase chain reaction with two temperature stresses (low = 4 °C and high = 40 °C) to screen for temperature-sensitive neuropeptides. We found many neuropeptides and receptors that may be involved in the temperature adaptability of B. tabaci. This study is the first to identify B. tabaci neuropeptides and their receptors, and it will help to reveal the roles of neuropeptides in temperature adaptation of B. tabaci.

Aerogels based on rod-like cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have been used in anisotropic materials, adsorbents and sensors, whereas they also suffer a low elasticity, leading to hard handling/processing in practical applications. Inspired by the sea cucumber, which transits from rigid to flexible when its cross-link network of collagen fibers is weakened by stiparin inhibitor, we cross-linked the CNCs with flexible poly ethylene glycol (PEG) to prepare an aerogel owning variable mechanical properties in different environments. This aerogel not only had a chemical-bond cross-link network, but also an H-bond one, which could be easily weakened by water. The results showed that the obtained CNC/PEG aerogel owned a high modulus of 0.80 MPa in a dry state and transited to an elastic state (modulus is 0.87 kPa) in a wet state. In the dry state, the shape change of the CNC/PEG aerogel could not recover when the strain was over 10%, when in the wet state the shape change could be reversible. Interestingly, the irreversible strain in the dry state could further transit to reversible in the wet state, and the wet aerogel could then transit back to rigid after freeze-drying. The mechanism study proved that this recovery came from the solvation-controlled weakening of the H-bond network between PEG and CNC. This work offered a simple but useful design of stimulation-response aerogels that can conduce to an elastification and shape recovery.
