Abstract A total of 10 specimens were captured from selected sites of Bajaur Agency FATA, Pakistan using mist nets. The captured specimens were morphologically identified and various morphometric measurements were taken. The head and Body length (HB) of Pipistrellus coromondra and Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus (n=10) was 43±0.11 mm and 45±1.1 respectively. Morphologically identified Pipistrellus kuhlii confirmed as Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus based on 16S rRNA sequences. The DNA sequences were submitted to GenBank and accession numbers were obtained (MN 719478 and MT430902). The available 16S rRNA gene sequences of Pipistrellus coromondra and Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus were retrieved from NCBI and incorporated in N-J tree analysis. Overall, the interspecific genetic variations among Pipistrellus coromondra and Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus were 8% and 1% respectively. In our recommendation, a comprehensive molecular identification of bats is need of hour to report more cryptic and new species from Pakistan.


Resumo Um total de 10 espécimes foi capturado em locais selecionados da Bajaur Agency FATA, Paquistão, usando redes de neblina. Os espécimes capturados foram identificados morfologicamente e várias medidas morfométricas foram realizadas. O comprimento da cabeça e do corpo (HB) de Pipistrellus coromondra e Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus (n = 10) foi de 43 ± 0,11 mm e 45 ± 1,1, respectivamente. Pipistrellus kuhlii identificado morfologicamente e confirmado como Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus com base em sequências de rRNA 16S. As sequências de DNA foram submetidas ao GenBank e os números de acesso foram obtidos (MN 719478 e MT430902). As sequências do gene 16S rRNA disponíveis de Pipistrellus coromondra e Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus foram recuperadas do NCBI e incorporadas na análise da árvore N-J. No geral, as variações genéticas interespecíficas entre Pipistrellus coromondra e Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus foram de 8% e 1%, respectivamente. Em nossa recomendação, uma identificação molecular abrangente de morcegos precisa de uma hora para relatar mais espécies crípticas e novas do Paquistão.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancers exhibit genetic heterogeneity which causes differential responses to various chemotherapy agents. Given the unique demographic and genomic background in South Asia, genetic architecture in breast cancers is not fully explored. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this study, we determined the genetic landscape of our previously established luminal-A subtype breast cancer cell line (BC-PAK1), and compared it with a Caucasian origin MCF7 breast cancer cell line of the same molecular subtype. Deep whole-exome sequencing (100X) was performed from early passages of the primary cancer cells using the Illumina NextSeq500. Data analysis with in silico tools showed novel non-silent somatic mutations previously not described in breast cancers, including a frameshift insertion (p.Ala1591AlafsTer28) in CIC, and a frameshift deletion (p.Lys333LysfsTer21) in PABPC1. Five genes CDC27, PIK3CG, ARAP3, RAPGEF1, and EFNA3, related with cell cycle pathway (hsa04110), ErbB signaling pathway (hsa04012), Ras signaling pathway (hsa04014), and Rap1 signaling pathway (hsa04015) were found to have recurrent non-silent somatic mutations. Further, the major contribution of COSMIC signatures 3 (failure of DNA double-strand break repair by homologous recombination), and 12 (transcriptional strand-bias for T>C substitutions) was observed. Also, the somatic mutations landscape in BC-PAK1 was found to be different as compared to the MCF7 cell line. The unique genetic landscape of BC-PAK1 might be responsible for significantly reduced response to doxorubicin than the MCF7 cell line. CONCLUSION: This study presents a distinct genetic architecture in luminal-A breast cancer potentially responsible for differential response to chemotherapy. Further studies on large cohorts of breast cancer patients are suggested for implementation in personalized medicine.

Encounters between marine animals and humans can result in critical injury and fatal complications. We highlight a 20-y-old male who sustained a penetrating injury to the neck as a result of impalement by needlefish (Tylosurus sp) while snorkeling. He sustained a penetrating injury in the posterior triangle of the neck. On presentation, he was stabilized and received empirical antibiotics, analgesia, and antitetanus toxoid injection before being transferred to a tertiary center. On presentation to the tertiary hospital, the patient was hemodynamically stable with no clinical evidence of injury to surrounding neck structures, and this was confirmed using computed tomography. The patient underwent local wound exploration and retrieval of the needlefish beak under general anesthesia. The wound was left open to heal by secondary intention. The patient was discharged with oral antibiotics and went on to make a complete recovery.

Non-nucleosidase reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) are highly promising agents for use in highly effective antiretroviral therapy. We implemented a rational approach for the identification of promising NNRTIs based on the validated ligand- and structure-based approaches. In view of our state-of-the-art techniques in drug design and discovery utilizing multiple modeling approaches, we report here, for the first time, quantitative pharmacophore modeling (HypoGen), docking, and in-house database screening approaches in the identification of potential NNRTIs. The validated pharmacophore model with three hydrophobic groups, one aromatic ring group, and a hydrogen-bond acceptor explains the interactions at the active site by the inhibitors. The model was implemented in pharmacophore-based virtual screening (in-house and commercially available databases) and molecular docking for prioritizing the potential compounds as NNRTI. The identified leads are in good corroboration with binding affinities and interactions as compared to standard ligands. The model can be utilized for designing and identifying the potential leads in the area of NNRTIs.

As the digital economy develops rapidly and the network information technology advances, new development models represented by the network economy have emerged, which have a crucial impact on green economic growth. However, the relevant previous studies lacked the role of analyzing the direct and indirect effects of internet development on green economic growth at the prefecture-level city level. For this purpose, this paper aims to examine the intrinsic mechanism of the impact of internet development on green economic growth and provide empirical support for cities and regions in China to increase internet construction. Furthermore, the mixed model (EBM), which includes both radial and non-radial distance functions, is applied to calculate the green economic growth index. Fixed effect model and mediation effect model are also employed to test influence mechanisms of the internet development on green economic growth using panel data of 269 prefecture-level cities in China from 2004 to 2019. The statistical results reveal that internet development has contributed significantly to green economic growth. When the internet development level increases by 1 unit, the green economic growth level increases by an average of 5.0372 units. However, regional heterogeneity is evident between internet development and green economic growth, that is, the promoting effect of internet development on green economic growth is gradually enhanced from the eastern region to the western region. We also find that internet development guides industrial structure upgrading improves environmental quality and accelerates enterprise innovation, which indirectly contributes to green economic growth. And internet development mainly achieves green economic growth through enterprise innovation. Based on the above findings, we concluded that policymakers should not only strengthen the guiding role of social actors to promote the stable development of the internet industry, but also foster the construction of the three models of "internet+industry integration," "internet+environmental governance," and "internet+enterprise innovation" to promote green economic growth.

The aim of this experiment was to investigate the role of melatonin and spirulina on multiorgan damage induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury (IR) in a rat model. A total of 32 male rats weighing 200-220 g were allocated into 4 groups (n = 8/group) (Sham, Control-IR [CIR], Melatonin-IR [MIR], and Spirulina-IR [SIR]). Sham group underwent midline laparotomy and dissection of the aorta without injury. In other groups, an IR model was established by clamping (ischemia) and releasing (reperfusion) the abdominal aorta at the supraceliac level for 20 min. All rats were given 3 ml/kg of distilled water by gavage for 14 days before and 7 days after the experiment. The treatment groups received either melatonin (50 mg/kg) or spirulina (50 mg/kg) by the same route. On the 21st day of the experiment, the rats were sacrificed. We found that melatonin and spirulina ameliorated the effects of IR at different levels of significance (ranging from p = .01 to p < .001), increasing total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and superoxide dismutase levels, and decreasing total oxidant status, oxidative stress index (OSI), myeloperoxidase, tumor necrosis factor-alfa and malondialdehyde levels. When compared MIR and SIR groups, only TAC and OSI levels did differ in favor of melatonin between the groups (p < .05). Histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations showed that melatonin and spirulina similarly reduced IR-related tissue damage and apoptosis. We concluded that melatonin and spirulina may have a protective role against oxidative tissue damage and apoptosis in the abdominal aortic IR animal model. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Coarctation of aorta (CoA) and interrupted aortic arch (IAA) are serious cardiac defects with high morbidity and mortality if not diagnosed and treated early in life. Restoration of blood flow in CoA or IAA through prostaglandin E1 infusion, angioplasty or surgery can cause ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury. This reperfusion period may be complicated IR injury at remote organs. It may be beneficial to increase antioxidant capacity in preventing stress-induced tissue damage. Melatonin and spirulina are agents with strong antioxidant properties. In this animal research, protective role of these products on multiorgan damage induced by IR was investigated for the first time. We found that both melatonin and spirulina ameliorate the effects of IR to varying degrees. This study provides evidence that melatonin and spirulina may have preventive effects on oxidative tissue damage and apoptosis in the abdominal aortic IR animal model.

Present study was carried to determine the sand fly species composition, breeding sites ecology, seasonal abundance, and spatial distribution in district Malakand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. In addition, risk factors associated with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) were also evaluated. Survey of indoor and outdoor habitats was carried out using sticky traps in 31 villages of Dargai and Batkhela tehsils of Malakand. Soil from habitats of adult and immature sand flies was analysed. Questionnaire-based household survey was also performed in these villages to assess risk factors associated with CL. Soil samples from selected CL positive households were analysed for its contents. Additionally, clinicoepidemiological data from local health centres was examined for the year 2019. Total of 3,140 sand flies belonging to 18 species were collected. Phlebotomus sergenti was the most abundant species (38.16%). Its abundance had a strong positive correlation with mean monthly relative humidity and negative correlation with average temperature. Phlebotomus sergenti and Phlebotomus papatasi were abundant at an elevation ranging from 320 to 1,120 m above sea level and in agricultural lands near human settlements. Flight height preference apparatus collected maximum sand flies at 30 cm (1ft) above the ground and all species associated negatively with height. Soil analysis from habitats of adult and immature flies showed that highest mean number of adults and immatures were recorded from silt loam which carried highest concentrations of K2 O, Mg, Ca, and Zn. Number of immature sand flies correlated moderately (r = .7, p < .05) with K2 O soil concentrations. There was significant similarity between organic matter contents in soil samples from positive breeding sites and CL households (Wilcoxon rank-sum test, p = .1976). In multivariate analysis model for CL risk factors, age (26-35 and >35 years), knowledge of leishmaniasis, living in a middle and upper class, preachers visit to villages, and assumption that Afghan refugees are more prone to CL were significant. CL patient's archived data from health centres showed that majority of patients had lesions on face and hands. Patient's influx was highest in February and March.

BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been observed to exhibit altered expression patterns in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Therefore, this study was aimed to evaluate the clinical importance of miR-126 and miR-122 expression in concert to imatinib response in CML patients. METHODS: The present study included 100 CML and 100 healthy subjects. The expression of the 2 miRNAs was performed using TaqMan probe chemistry, and snU6 was used as internal control. RESULTS: The expression of miR-126 and miR-122 was downregulated in CML patients, with a mean fold change ± SD 0.20 ± 0.33 and 0.22 ± 0.37, respectively. While the expression of both miRNAs was analysed before and after imatinib treatment, it was observed that the expression levels of both were increased after imatinib treatment by 26.25-fold (5.33 against 0.20) and 13.95-fold (3.07 against 0.22) and the increase was statistically significant (p < 0.0001 and p < 0.0001, respectively). The expression of miR-126 was not conclusive when compared in different clinical stages of the CML disease as it showed a decreased expression in patients with accelerated phase compared to chronic phase (mean fold change = 0.03 and 0.27, respectively), but patients with chronic phase and blastic phase had comparable expression (mean fold change = 0.27 and 0.24, respectively). We also observed an increased expression of both miRNAs after imatinib therapy in each clinical phase. CONCLUSION: The study concludes that expression of miR-126 and miR-122 increases after imatinib treatment in CML patients and that miR-126 defines the good responders of imatinib therapy.

Critical discourse analysis aims to explore the dialectical relationship between discourse and ideology. Based on psycholinguistic research, this paper analyzes the Chinese and American media's news reports and comments on the COVID-19. It aims to expose the hidden psychological messages and ideologies behind the words. The corpus in this paper is mainly from the official media of China Daily and Time from December 2019 to January 2021 in China and the United States. This paper uses Wang Zhenhua's Appraisal Theory and Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar as tools to make a comparative analysis of the corpus. At the textual level, languages are classified and lexical choices are analyzed followed by the analysis of the reporter's ideology after reviewing the motivation of the reporters of two countries. On the level of social responsibility expression and discourse, the paper analyzes the news reports, which are characterized by the combination of the reporter's views on the news. In the aspect of social practice, the social and cultural factors and background of news reports are analyzed. China calls for strengthening cooperation and exchanges with other countries to jointly fight the epidemic. The Chinese government has actively shared its experience and made corresponding contributions to international economic recovery. However, the US government shirks its responsibility by claiming that the effective implementation of Chinese methods and experience in China does not mean that it can achieve corresponding results in Europe and the US. At the same time, the United States provides medical supplies to other countries. This study hopes to help awaken readers' critical thinking and increase their awareness of the anti-control of mass discourse. At the same time, it is hoped that readers can view the epidemic from a more scientific perspective, understand the facts and reject the unwarranted panic. It will also help reshape Chinese and American discourse.

OBJECTIVE: To determine patient and dialysis services-related factors associated with seroconversion of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: Department of Nephrology, Mayo Hospital, King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Lahore, from January to December, 2018. METHODOLOGY: All patients on regular HD for more than three months were enrolled. All patients who seroconverted from HCV-negative to positive status three months after starting HD, were included. Patient-related factors (age, gender, blood transfusion, duration and frequency of dialysis, history of dental treatment and surgical intervention) and dialysis services-related parameters (dedicated staff, isolated room, hemodialysis machine, reverse osmosis plant, compliance of universal infection control measure) were noted. RESULTS: Out of 990 patients, 492 (49.7%) were reported as seroconverted for HCV during HD. Factors determined statistically significant for seroconversion were surgical intervention (p<0.001), history of dental procedure (p <0.001), blood transfusions (p <0.001), multiple sexual partner (p <0.001), age (p=0.035) and duration of hemodialysis (p <0.001). Factors not affecting seroconversion included frequency of dialysis (p=0.062), history of renal transplant (p =0.097) and family history of hepatitis (p=0.941). A significant negative correlation was observed between the rate of seroconversion of HCV and the score of universal infection control measures (r=-0.665, p=0.018). CONCLUSION: There was a high rate of seroconversion of HCV in HD patients. Factors responsible for seroconversion were history of surgical intervention, dental treatment, blood transfusion, multiple sexual partners, age and duration of dialysis. The dialysis centres non-compliant with universal infection control measures were having high rate of seroconversion. OBJECTIVE: To explore the reflective capacity as a learning tool in pediatric residents. STUDY DESIGN: Survey. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: The Children's Hospital Lahore, Pakistan from 20th March to 30th March 2021. METHODOLOGY: In this cross sectional online survey, the participants were postgraduate residents and registrars of Paediatric Medicine, Paediatric Surgery, and Paediatric Diagnostics, working at The Children's Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan. Reflective practices questionnaire (RPQ) was used for measuring the reflective practices and SPSS-24 for data analysis. RESULTS: Out of a total of 175 study participants, 144 (82.3%) were paediatric medicine residents followed by paediatric surgery 18 (10.3%) and paediatric diagnostic 13 (7.4%) with a slight female preponderance 91 (52%). All years of trainees participated; majority was 4th year trainees 58 (33.1%), and 1st year the lowest 17 (9.7%). The overall mean score of the questionnaire was 69.97 ± 10.79 (95% CI: 68.36 ± 71.58) out of 96 total score. The highest score was of critical appraisal 18.52 ± 3.16 (95% CI: 18.04 ± 18.99) out of 24. There was no difference in mean score of different sub-domains and mean scores based on gender, specialty or year of training (p=>0.05). CONCLUSION: The overall reflective capacity of paediatric postgraduate residents is good irrespective of specialty, gender or year of training. Critical appraisal of interaction in the reflection is the highest scored domain. Key Words: Postgraduate, Residents, Medical education, Reflection, Practice, Learning tool.

RESUMO

Cardiac lymphomas, either primary or secondary, are mostly of B-cell lineage; among which, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common. Secondary involvement of the heart is usually a late manifestation of disseminated lymphoma. Patients may be asymptomatic or may have non-specific symptoms, particularly when cardiac involvement is not extensive. A 22-year male patient presented with four months' history of progressive enlargement of left cervical lymph nodes with intermittent fever along with dysphagia and left ear pain. Positron-emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) scan revealed abnormal fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in multiple systemic locations including inferior wall of the myocardium. Subsequently, cardiac MRI showed left ventricular posterolateral wall abnormal area of delayed enhancement, corresponding to the FDG uptake on PET CT scan. Patient had remission after completion of standard chemotherapy protocol for the management of DLBCL with acceptable toxicity. The power industry is in the process of grid modernization with the introduction of phasor measurement units (PMUs), advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and other technologies. Although these technologies enable more reliable and efficient operation, the risk of cyber threats has increased, as evidenced by the recent blackouts in Ukraine and New York. One of these threats is false data injection attacks (FDIAs). Most of the FDIA literature focuses on the vulnerability of DC estimators and AC estimators to such attacks. This paper investigates FDIAs for PMU-based state estimation, where the PMUs are comparable. Several states can be manipulated by compromising one PMU through the channels of that PMU. A Phase Locking Value (PLV) technique was developed to detect FDIAs. The proposed approach is tested on the IEEE 14-bus and the IEEE 30-bus test systems under different scenarios using a Monte Carlo simulation where the PLV demonstrated an efficient performance.

Importance: Ensartinib, an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), has shown systemic and central nervous system efficacy for patients with ALK-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Objective: To compare ensartinib with crizotinib among patients with advanced ALK-positive NSCLC who had not received prior treatment with an ALK inhibitor. Design, Setting, and Participants: This open-label, multicenter, randomized, phase 3 trial conducted in 120 centers in 21 countries enrolled 290 patients between July 25, 2016, and November 12, 2018. Eligible patients were 18 years of age or older and had advanced, recurrent, or metastatic ALK-positive NSCLC. Interventions: Patients were randomized (1:1) to ensartinib, 225 mg once daily, or crizotinib, 250 mg twice daily. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary end point was blinded independent review committee-assessed progression-free survival (PFS). Secondary end points included systemic and intracranial response, time to central nervous system progression, and overall survival. Efficacy was evaluated in the intent-to-treat (ITT) population as well as a prespecified modified ITT (mITT) population consisting of patients with central laboratory-confirmed ALK-positive NSCLC. Results: A total of 290 patients (149 men [51.4%]; median age, 54 years [range, 25-90 years]) were randomized. In the ITT population, the median PFS was significantly longer with ensartinib than with crizotinib (25.8 [range, 0.03-44.0 months] vs 12.7 months [range, 0.03-38.6 months]; hazard ratio, 0.51 [95% CI, 0.35-0.72]; log-rank P < .001), with a median follow-up of 23.8 months (range, 0-44 months) for the ensartinib group and 20.2 months (range, 0-38 months) for the crizotinib group. In the mITT population, the median PFS in the ensartinib group was not reached, and the median PFS in the crizotinib group was 12.7 months (95% CI, 8.9-16.6 months; hazard ratio, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.30-0.66; log-rank P < .001). The intracranial response rate confirmed by a blinded independent review committee was 63.6% (7 of 11) with ensartinib vs 21.1% (4 of 19) with crizotinib for patients with target brain metastases at baseline. Progression-free survival for patients without brain metastases was not reached with ensartinib vs 16.6 months with crizotinib as a result of a lower central nervous system progression rate (at 12 months: 4.2% with ensartinib vs 23.9% with crizotinib; cause-specific hazard ratio, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.16-0.63; P = .001). Frequencies of treatment-related serious adverse events (ensartinib: 11 [7.7%] vs crizotinib: 9 [6.1%]), dose reductions (ensartinib: 34 of 143 [23.8%] vs crizotinib: 29 of 146 [19.9%]), or drug discontinuations (ensartinib: 13 of 143 [9.1%] vs crizotinib: 10 of 146 [6.8%]) were similar, without any new safety signals. Conclusions and Relevance: In this randomized clinical trial, ensartinib showed superior efficacy to crizotinib in both systemic and intracranial disease. The outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected millions of lives and it is one of the deadliest viruses ever known and the effort to find a cure for COVID-19 has been very high. The purpose of the study was to investigate the anti-COVID effect from the peptides derived from microalgae. The peptides from microalgae exhibit antimicrobial, anti-allergic, anti-hypersensitive, anti-tumor and immune-modulatory properties. In the In silico study, 13 cyanobacterial specific peptides were retrieved based on the extensive literature survey and their structures were predicted using Discovery Studios Visualizer. The spike protein of the novel COVID19 was retrieved from PDB (6LU7) and further molecular docking was done with the peptides through CDOCKER. The five peptides were bound clearly to the spike protein (SP) and their inhibitory effect towards the SP was promising among 13 peptides were investigated. Interestingly, LDAVNR derived from S.maxima have excellent binding and interaction energy showed -113.456 kcal/mol and -71.0736 kcal/mol respectively to target SP of COVID. The further investigation required for the in vitro confirmation of anti-COVID from indigenous microalgal species for the possible remedy in the pandemic.

As a developing country, Pakistan reports a high burden of fungal diseases, of which cutaneous mucormycosis remains a prominent infection, presenting as a highly invasive disease with significant mortality. Apart from a high population of at-risk individuals, multiple factors have precipitated an increment in mucormycosis cases in the country following the COVID-19 pandemic. These include increased use of corticosteroids, immunosuppression following the viral infection, prolonged stays in the intensive care unit and sub-optimal laboratory testing available in the country. This article aims to assess the potential implications of a mucormycosis epidemic on a healthcare system already strained under the COVID-19 pandemic, and provides subsequent recommendations to weather the dual challenge of two deadly pathogens.

AIMS: Patients hospitalized for heart failure (HF) had worse in-hospital outcomes during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, their long-term outcomes are unknown. We describe long-term outcomes among patients who survived to hospital discharge compared with patients hospitalized in 2019 from two referral centers in London during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS AND RESULTS: In total, 512 patients who survived their hospitalization for acute HF in two South London referral centers between 7 January and 14 June 2020 were included in the study and compared with 725 patients from the corresponding period in 2019. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. The demographic characteristics of patients admitted in 2020 were similar to the 2019 cohort. Median (IQR) follow-up was 622 (348-691) days. All-cause mortality after discharge remained significantly higher for patients admitted in 2020 compared with the equivalent period in 2019 (P < 0.01), which may relate to observed differences in place of care with fewer patients being managed on specialist cardiology wards during the COVID-19 pandemic. CONCLUSION: Hospitalization for HF during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with higher all-cause mortality among patients who survived to discharge. Further studies are necessary to identify predictors of these adverse outcomes to improve outpatient management during a critical period in the management of acute HF.

INTRODUCTION: Liquid semisolid matrix (LSSM) technology involves the filling of drug-mixed gel in hard gelatin capsules for different applications. METHODS: In continuation of our previous work on LSSM technology, 10% (w/w) of practically insoluble model drug, mefenamic acid was incorporated in gels of different poloxamers with 8% (w/w) SiO2. Gels exhibited plasticity or pseudoplasticity along thixotropy at 2 and 24 h enabling their easy filling into hard gelatin capsules without content seepage. Mefenamic acid gels prepared with L64 and L92 maintained their apparent viscosities for the study period of one month. Around 100% mefenamic acid was released within 90 min from L64- and in 150 min from L92-SiO2 gels, both with first-order kinetics. RESULTS: In 12 month long-term stability studies, only mefenamic acid-L64-SiO gel at 30°C/65% RH indicated dispersion stability with similar rheology and release pattern to that at 2, 24 and 30 days. CONCLUSION: No chemical drug-polymer interactions were found in FTIR. The release of practically insoluble mefenamic acid could be enhanced from gel formulated with L64 and SiO2.
