RESUMO

Strain HMF4947T, isolated from the bark of a ginkgo tree, was a pale-pink coloured, Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, strictly aerobic and rod-shaped bacterium. The isolate grew optimally on Reasoner's 2A agar at 30 °C, pH 7.0 and with 0 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMF4947T belonged to the genus Hymenobacter and was most closely related to Hymenobacter metalli A2-91T (96.9 % sequence similarity) and Hymenobacter pomorum 9-2-1-1T (96.5 %). The average nucleotide identity and estimated DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain HMF4947T and Hymenobacter arizonensis DSM 17870T were 74.3 and 20.5 %, respectively. The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c), iso-C15 : 0 and C16 : 1 ω5c. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone-7. The polar lipids comprised phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminoglycolipid, three unidentified aminophospholipids, one unidentified phospholipid, three unidentified aminolipids, two unidentified glycolipids and three unidentified polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 59.3 mol%. Thus, based on phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data, strain HMF4947T represents a novel species of the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter ginkgonis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the species is strain HMF4947T (=KCTC 72780T=NBRC 114271T).

Two strains of Gram-stain-positive, strictly aerobic, motile, spore-forming, rod-shaped, moderately halotolerant bacteria, designated as HMF5848T and HME7618, were isolated from salt/brine and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic investigation. Growth of both yellow-coloured strains occurred in the presence of 1-9 % NaCl (w/v; optimum, 2-3 %), at 15-45 °C (optimum, 37 °C) and pH 6-9 (optimum, pH 7). The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The cell-wall peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. The only respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, four unidentified glycolipids, three unidentified phospholipids and two unidentified polar lipids. DNA G+C content was 37.4 mol%. Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strains HMF5848T and HME7618 clustered with Bacillus luteolus YIM 93174T. Strains HMF5848T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to Bacillus humi LMG 22167T (96.1 %), Bacillus isabeliae CVS-8T (96.0 %) and Bacillus luteolus YIM 93174T (96.0 %). The values of in silico DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity between strains HMF5848T and B. humi DSM 16318T were 25.8 and 69.7 %, respectively. On the basis of phylogenetic, physiological and chemotaxonomic properties, strain HMF5848T represents a novel species, Bacillus salinus sp. nov. The type strain is HMF5848T (=KCTC 43010T=CECT 9695T).

A novel non-pigmented, Gram-stain-negative, motile by means of a polar flagellum, aerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, designated HMF8227T, was isolated from solar saltern sediment sampled at Shinan, Republic of Korea. The isolate was able to grow at 15-42 °C (optimum, 37 °C), at pH 6-8 (pH 7) and with 0.5-12 % NaCl (2-5 %). Strain HMF8227T was positive for hydrolysis of starch and dextrin. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain HMF8227T was affiliated with the family Alteromonadaceae, sharing the highest sequence similarities to the genera Salinimonas (93.0-94.4 %), Aestuariibacter (92.0-94.2 %), Alteromonas (92.0-93.6 %) and Lacimicrobium (93.6 %). In the phylogenetic trees, strain HMF8227T formed an independent clade with Lacimicrobium alkaliphilum X13M-12T. The major fatty acids were C16 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c). The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-8 (Q-8). The major polar lipids are phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid and two unidentified glycolipids. The DNA G+C content of the genomic DNA was 52.1 mol%. On the basis of the polyphasic characterizations, strain HMF8227T represents a novel species and genus within the family Alteromonadaceae, for which the name Saliniradius amylolyticus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain being HMF8227T (=KCTC 62462T =NBRC 113230T).

An aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped and Gram-stain-negative marine bacterium, designated as HME9304T, was isolated from surface seawater of the Yellow Sea. Growth was observed at 10-35 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 6-8 (pH 7) and with 1-5 % NaCl (2 %). The major fatty acids of strain HME9304T were iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c). The only respiratory quinone was menaquinone-6. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, one unidentified glycolipid and five unidentified polar lipids. Results of phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain HME9304T was affiliated with the genus Flagellimonas. Its closest type strains were Flagellimonas aquimarina ECD12T (95.5 % sequence similarity), Flagellimonas flava A11T (95.4 %), Flagellimonas pacifica SW169T (94.9 %) and Flagellimonas eckloniae DOKDO 007T (94.6 %). The DNA G+C content of the genomic DNA was 38.1 mol%. Phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics suggested that strain HME9304T represents a novel species of the genus Flagellimonas within the family Flavobacteriaceae, for which the name  Flagellimonas maritima sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME9304T (=KCTC 32464T=KACC 17618T=CECT 8418T).

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped and red-pigmented strain, HME7025T, was isolated from freshwater sampled in the Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain HME7025T formed a lineage within the family Cytophagaceae of the phylum Bacteroidetes. Strain HME7025T was closely related to the genera Pseudarcicella, Arcicella and Flectobacillus. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of strain HME7025T were under 94.5 % to its closest phylogenetic neighbours. The major fatty acids of strain HME7025T were iso-C15 : 0 (41.9 %), summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c; 12.2 %) and anteiso-C15 : 0 (10.8 %). The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminophospholipids and one unidentified polar lipid. The DNA G+C content of strain HME7025T was 37.9 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME7025T represents a novel species of a novel genus within the family Cytophagaceae, for which the name Allopseudarcicella aquatilis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME7025T (=KCTC 23617T=CECT 7957T).

Strain HMF7854T, isolated from a ginkgo tree, was an orange-pigmented, Gram-stain-negative, motile by means of a single flagellum, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium. The isolate grew optimally on Reasoner's 2A agar at 30 °C, pH 7.0-8.0 and 0 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMF7854T belonged to the genus Sphingomonas and was most closely related to Sphingomonasagri HKS-06T (96.8 % sequence similarity). The major fatty acids were C17 : 1 ω6c, summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c), summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and C16 : 0. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-10. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, sphingoglycolipid, two unidentified lipids and two unidentified glycolipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 68.4 mol%. Thus, based on its phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data, strain HMF7854T represents a novel species of the genus Sphingomonas, for which the name Sphingomonasginkgonis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the species is strain HMF7854T (=KCTC 62461T=NBRC 113337T).

A rod-shaped, Gram-staining-negative and orange-pigmented bacterium, designated strain HME9302T, was isolated from seawater of the Yellow Sea in the Republic of Korea. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HME9302T formed a lineage within the genus Altererythrobacter, and was most closely related to Altererythrobacter aurantiacus O30T with 96.7 % sequence similarity. The major fatty acids were summed feature 8 (comprising C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c), summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and C16 : 0. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-10. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, sphingoglycolipid and four unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content was 60.8 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME9302T represents a novel species of the genus Altererythrobacter, for which the name Altererythrobacter maritimus sp. nov. is proposed with the type strain HME9302T (=KCTC 32463T=KACC 17617T=CECT 8417T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, motile by gliding and straight rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated HMF3635T, was isolated from seawater of the East Sea, Republic of Korea. Strain HMF3635T grew optimally on marine agar at 30 °C, pH 7.0-8.0 and 2.0 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMF3635T belonged to the genus Maribacter and was most closely related to Maribacter arenosus CAU 1321T (96.4 % sequence similarity) and Maribacter polysiphoniae KMM 6151T (96.0 %). The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The only respiratory quinone was menaquinone 6. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified aminolipids, one unidentified phospholipid and three unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content was 38.7 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMF3635T represents a novel species of the genus Maribacter, for which the name Maribacter maritimus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the species is strain HMF3635T (=KCTC 52399T=NBRC 112671T).

A novel strain, designated HMF3095T, isolated from freshwater of a mesotrophic artificial lake in the Republic of Korea, was characterized by polyphasic taxonomy. The cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile, straight rods and formed reddish colonies. Phylogenetic analysis based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain HMF3095T fell within the cluster of the genus Hymenobacterand was most closely related to Hymenobacter seoulensis 16F7GT and Hymenobacter tenuis POB6T (96.7 % sequence similarity). Sequence similarities to all other type strains were 96.3 % or less. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1ω5c, summed feature 4 (iso-C17 : 1 I and/or anteiso-C17 : 1 B), summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and anteiso-C15 : 0. The major isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone 7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified aminophospholipids and one unidentified phospholipid. The DNA G+C content was 58.9 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMF3095T represents a novel species of the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter aquatilis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF3095T (=KCTC 52398T=NBRC 112669T).

A Gram-stain-negative and non-motile bacterial strain that formed rods and orange-pigmented colonies, designated HMF6543T, was isolated from sand of seashore on the South Sea, Republic of Korea. Strain HMF6543T grew optimally at 30 °C, at pH 7.0-8.0 and in the presence of 2 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain HMF6543T belonged to the genus Sabulilitoribacter. The most closest related species was Sabulilitoribacter multivorans M-M16T (96.7 %, sequence similarity). Strain HMF6543T contained MK-6 as the predominant menaquinone and iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids detected in strain HMF6543T were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, one unidentified glycolipid and three unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HMF6543T was 31.9 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMF6543T represents a novel species of the genus Sabulilitoribacter, for which the name Sabulilitoribacterarenilitoris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF6543T (=KCTC 52401T=NBRC 112674T).

Two Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, aerobic, marine bacteria, designated HME9321T and HME9359T, were isolated from seawater and lagoon water samples in the Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of the two strains revealed that they belonged to the genus Lewinella within the family Saprospiraceae. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of strain HME9321T showed highest similarities with Lewinella aquimaris HDW-36T (95.2 %), Lewinella marina MKG-38T (94.7 %) and Lewinella xylanilytica 13-9-B8T (94.0 %). Strain HME9359T had highest sequence similarities with Lewinella agarilytica SST-19T (94.7 %), Lewinella persica T-3T (94.1 %) and Lewinella antarctica IMCC3223T (93.3 %). The predominant fatty acids of strain HME9321T were summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 9 (comprising iso-C16 : 0 10-methyl and/or C17 : 1ω9c) while those of strain HME9359T were summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and iso-C15 : 0. The major isoprenoid quinone of both strains was MK-7. Strain HME9321T contained the polar lipids, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid, one unidentified phospholipid and nine unidentified polar lipids, while strain HME9359T contained phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified phospholipid and nine unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C contents of strains HME9321T and HME9359T were 58.7 and 62.0 mol%, respectively. Based on the results of the phenotypic, genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic investigation, two novel species, Lewinella maritima sp. nov. and Lewinella lacunae sp. nov. are proposed. The type strains are HME9321T (=KACC 17619T=CECT 8419T) and HME9359T (=KCTC 42187T=CECT 8679T), respectively.

A novel bacterium, designated HME9613T, was isolated from seawater of the Yellow Sea in the Republic of Korea. Cells of strain HME9613T were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile by gliding and rod-shaped. Strain HME9613T grew optimally at 25 °C, at pH 7 and in the presence of 3 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain HME9613T formed a lineage within the genus Winogradskyella of the family Flavobacteriaceae, and showed highest sequence similarity to Winogardskyella exilis 022-2-26T (95.9 %). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between strain HME9613T and other Winogradskyella species ranged from 93.7 to 95.9 %. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 1 G, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and iso-C15 : 0. The polar lipid profile consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids and two unidentified lipids. The predominant respiratory quinone was menaquinone-6 (MK-6). The DNA G+C content of the strain HME9613T was 38.4 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic and genotypic data, strain HME9613T represents a novel species within the genus Winogradskyella, for which the name Winogradskyella maritima sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME9613T (=KCTC 42189T=CECT 8979T).

A non-motile, orange-pigmented bacterium, designated strain HME7103T, was isolated from lagoon water in the Republic of Korea. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HME7103T formed a lineage within the genus Lacihabitans and family Cytophagaceae. Strain HME7103T was closely related to Lacihabitans soyangensis HME6675T (95.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). The major fatty acids of strain HME7103T were summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and iso-C15 : 0. The major respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major polyamine was spermidine. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, one unidentified aminophospholipid and three unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HME7103T was 40.6 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME7103T represents a novel species within the genus Lacihabitans, for which the name Lacihabitans lacunae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME7103T (=KCTC 23619T=CECT 7956T).

RESUMO

A yellow-pigmented bacterial strain, originally designated 15-S14-6T, was isolated from the southern coastal waters of Korea and was subjected to taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. Strain 15-S14-6T was Gram-staining-negative, flagellated, rod-shaped and aerobic. The strain grew optimally at 25-30 °C, in the presence of 2 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 7.5-8.0. The results of phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that 15-S14-6T represented a member of the genus Mesonia and exhibited the highest sequence similarity (98.0 %) with Mesonia aquimarina IMCC1021T, followed by Mesonia mobilis KMM 6059T (96.7 %) and Mesonia phycicola MDSW-25T (96.1 %). DNA-DNA relatedness between 15-S14-6T and M. aquimarina IMCC1021T was 11.2±1.6 % (12.3±0.3 % in a reciprocal experiment). Strain 15-S14-6T had a DNA G+C content of 34.4 mol% and had MK-6 as the predominant menaquinone. Furthermore, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 were identified as the major fatty acids. Phosphatidylethanolamine, two unknown aminolipids, an unknown phospholipid and four other unknown lipids were determined to be the major polar lipids. Based on phenotypic properties and phylogenetic data presented here, 15-S14-6T represents a novel species within the genus Mesonia , for which the name Mesonia maritima sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 15-S14-6T (= KCCM 43197T, NCAIM B.02633T, CGMCC 1.16020T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic and rod-shaped marine bacterium, designated strain HMF4135T, was isolated from a sand sample which was collected from the seashore of the South Sea, Republic of Korea. It required NaCl for growth and exhibited optimal growth at 30 °C, with 2 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 7-8. Cellular fatty acids were dominated by C16 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), C16 : 1ω9c and C12 : 0 3-OH. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-8 (Q-8). Polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine. The DNA G+C content was 41.9 mol%. Phylogeny based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMF4135T formed a distinct species-level lineage within the genus Thalassotalea of the class Gammaproteobacteria and was most closely related to Thalassotalea ponticola GJSW-36T (96.4 % similarity). Based on the distinctive phenotypic characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, it is concluded that strain HMF4135T represents a novel species of the genus Thalassotalea, for which the name Thalassotalea litorea sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF4135T (=KCTC 52154T=NBRC 112672T).

A novel, Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile and filamentous bacterial strain, designated HMF3829T, was isolated from wetland freshwater in Gyeong-an wetland, Republic of Korea. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMF3829T formed a lineage within the genus Runella. Strain HMF3829T was closely related to Runella slithyformis DSM 19594T (95.2 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Runellalimosa DSM 17973T (94.9 %), Runellazeae NS12T (94.2 %) and Runella defluvii EMB13T (94.0 %). The major fatty acids of strain HMF3829T were iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), C16 : 1ω5c and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone 7 (MK-7). The polar lipids of strain HMF3829T consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified aminolipids, one unidentified phospholipid, three unidentified aminophospholipids and 12 unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HMF3829T was 46.2 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMF3829T represents a novel species of the genus Runella, for which the name Runella palustris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF3829T (=KCTC 42850T=CECT 8978T).

An aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain HMF2268T, was isolated from a lagoon in the Republic of Korea. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain HMF2268T belonged to the genus Polaribacter and was most closely related to Polaribacter huanghezhanensisSM1202T (96.8 % similarity). Cellular fatty acids were dominated by iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 3-OH, anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C15 : 1 G. The predominant respiratory quinone was menaquinone-6 (MK-6). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified aminolipids and two unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content was 34.3 mol%. Based on the polyphasic taxonomic analyses, it is concluded that strain HMF2268T represents a novel species of the genus Polaribacter, for which the name Polaribacter lacunae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF2268T (=KCTC 42191T=CECT 8862T).

A novel bacterium, designated HMF3850T, was isolated from freshwater collected from the Gyeong-an wetland, Republic of Korea. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, straight rods, non-motile, and oxidase- and catalase-positive. Growth was observed at pH 6.0-8.0 and at 10-30 °C on R2A agar. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain HMF3850T is a member of the genus Emticicia, sharing highest sequence similarities with Emticicia aquatica HMF2925T (96.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Emticicia sediminis JBR12T (95.0 %), Emticicia ginsengisoliGsoil 085T (94.9 %) and Emticicia oligotrophica DSM 17448T (94.7 %). The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and C16 : 0. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, one unidentified aminophospholipid, two unidentified aminolipids and eight unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content was 38.5 mol %. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMF3850T represents a novel species of the genus Emticicia, for which the name Emticicia paludis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF3850T (=KCTC 42851T=CECT 9087T).

A novel bacterium, designated KJ031T, was isolated from a wetland soil sample taken from Jeju island, Republic of Korea. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, curved rod shaped, oxidase- and catalase- positive, motile and facultatively anaerobic. Growth was observed at pH 6.0-8.0 and at 20-37 °C on R2A agar. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain KJ031T is a member of the genus Paludibacterium, sharing highest sequence similarities with Paludibacterium paludis KBP-21T (96.2 %) and Paludibacterium. yongneupense 5YN8-15T (96.0 %). The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c), C16 : 0 and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c). The predominant respiratory quinone was Q-8. The major polar lipids of strain KJ031T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminophospholipid, two unidentified phospholipids and one unidentified polar lipid. The DNA G+C content was 59.2 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain KJ031T represents a novel species of the genus Paludibacterium, for which the name Paludibacterium purpuratum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is KJ031T (=KCTC 42852T =CECT 8976T).
