MicroRNA (miR)­125a­5p has shown the potential for suppressing tumorigenesis and development; however, the effects of miR­125a­5p on breast cancer cells remains unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects and underlying mechanisms of miR­125a­5p in MCF­7 breast cancer cells. MCF­7 cells were transfected with miR­125a­5p mimic or miR­125a­5p small interfering RNA to produce miR­125a­5p overexpressing/knockdown cells. Cell proliferation was assessed by an MTT assay, and cell migration ability was determined by an in vitro scratch assay. Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometry were performed to assess the effects of miR­125a­5p on MCF­7 apoptosis. Western blotting and reverse transcription­quantitative polymerase chain reaction were used for measuring phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), phosphorylated (p)­mitogen­activated protein kinase kinase (MEK1/2)/MEK1/2, p­ERK1/2/ERK1/2, B­cell lymphoma­2 (Bcl­2), cleaved caspase­3, and miR­125a­5p expression. miR­125a­5p overexpression inhibited the proliferation and migration, but promoted the apoptosis of MCF­7 cells. These effects were associated with increases in PTEN and cleaved caspase­3 expression, and decreases in p­MEK1/2/MEK1/2, p­ERK1/2/ERK1/2, and Bcl­2. Silencing of miR­125a­5p exhibited opposing effects on MCF­7 cells. These observations suggested that miR­125a­5p participates in the regulation of multiple functions of MCF­7 cells by promoting the expression of PTEN tumor suppressor genes, activating MEK1/2/ERK1/2 signaling, and regulating caspase­3/Bcl­2 signaling. Thus, it may be a suitable target for breast cancer gene therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To observe and compare the shoulder joint function, complications and clinical effects of hemiarthroplasty and open reduction and locking plate in the treatment of comminuted proximal humeral fracture (Neer IV) with 3D printing technique. METHODS: From March 2012 to April 2018, 31 middle age and elderly patients with comminuted proximal humeral fractures (Neer IV) were treated, including 4 males and 27 females, aged from 55 to 94 years old with an average age of 71 years, with a course of 1 to 3 years. Among them, 20 cases were treated with open reduction and locking plate internal fixation (ORIF group) and 11 cases were treated with lower half shoulder replacement (HA group) assisted by 3D printing technology. Using CT data and Mimics software of Materialise Company in Belgium, the reconstruction of fracture was simulated on computer. The height of fracture end to humeral head, the height of tubercle to humeral head, the angle of humeral head backward obliquity were measured to assist the hemiarthroplasty. Follow-up and X-ray examination were performed, the incidence of complications were observed, and Neer score was used for the shoulder joint function. RESULTS: Thirty-one patients were followed up for 1 to 3 years with an average of 2 years. In HA group, there was no prosthesis loosening, fracture and subsidence, the head of artificial humerus was intact, the fracture of nodules and nodules did not heal in 1 case, Neer score was 84.18±3.55; in ORIF group, there were 8 cases of proximal humerus bone resorption, 1 case of fracture nonunion, 1 case of internal fixation loosening, Neer score was 55.91±10.78; there was significant difference in Neer score of shoulder joint function between the two groups(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound-guided minimal traverse-cross technique repair for acute closed Achilles tendon ruptures, which promise minimal incision, protect sural nerve, ensure quality of tendon anastomosis and fixation, and is a ideal method for repairing acute closed Achilles tendon ruptures.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The success rate of leadless cardiac pacemaker (LP) retrieval remains a major concern for this disruptive technology. The present paper performed a systematic review of the safety and feasibility of the retrieval of LPs. METHODS: Primary publications that performed LP retrieval were collected and included five animal experiments and two worldwide retrieval experiences in human. The procedural details, such as indication, days post implantation, extraction success rate, and complications, were described. The present paper analyzed factors affecting the retrieval and management of the nonfunctional devices. RESULTS: Retrieval animal models was possible at least up to 2.5 years post implantation, and data from humans suggest that removal of a device that was implanted longer (eg, 4 years and 9 months for Nanostim; 4 years for Micra) could be performed within a reasonable safety profile. The fixed mechanism, implant site, and encapsulation of the LP systems may affect the retrieval process. CONCLUSIONS: A high success rate in the relatively chronic retrieval of LPs was demonstrated, which promotes the extensive use of these devices in the treatment arrhythmia in the future.

Owing to the nonlinearity in visual-inertial state estimation, sufficiently accurate initial states, especially the spatial and temporal parameters between IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and camera, should be provided to avoid divergence. Moreover, these parameters are required to be calibrated online since they are likely to vary once the mechanical configuration slightly changes. Recently, direct approaches have gained popularity for their better performance than feature-based approaches in little-texture or low-illumination environments, taking advantage of tracking pixels directly. Based on these considerations, we perform a direct version of monocular VIO (Visual-inertial Odometry), and propose a novel approach to initialize the spatial-temporal parameters and estimate them with all other variables of interest (IMU pose, point inverse depth, etc.). We highlight that our approach is able to perform robust and accurate initialization and online calibration for the spatial and temporal parameters without utilizing any prior information, and also achieves high-precision estimates even when large temporal offset occurs. The performance of the proposed approach was verified through the public UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) dataset.

Long noncoding RNAs are capable of regulating gene expression at multiple levels. These RNA molecules are also involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Emerging data demonstrate that a series of differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs are implicated in tumorigenesis. In the present study, we used microarray analysis to identify long noncoding RNAs that are dysregulated in non-small-cell lung cancer when compared to normal lung tissues. Accordingly, we performed quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction to analyze the levels of long noncoding RNA and the cis target gene. We further found the oncogene property of long noncoding RNA that long noncoding RNA downexpression inhibits non-small-cell lung cancer cells proliferation and migration based on 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide and colony formation assays and wound healing as well as transwell assays. The influence of long noncoding RNA on cell cycle of non-small-cell lung cancer cells is also analyzed by flow cytometry. Among the dysregulated long noncoding RNAs, we identified INS-IGF2 readthrough, transcript variant 1, noncoding RNA (NR_003512.3) is upregulated in non-small-cell lung cancer tissues, the cis gene of which is insulin-like growth factor 2 gene hinted by bioinformatics analysis. We also observed that downregulation of INS-IGF2 readthrough, transcript variant 1, noncoding RNA reduces insulin-like growth factor 2 messenger RNA expression. Furthermore, INS-IGF2 readthrough, transcript variant 1, noncoding RNA downregulation suppresses non-small-cell lung cancer cell proliferation and migration. This downregulation results in a concomitant inhibition of the G1/S transition in non-small-cell lung cancer cells. Our findings suggest that INS-IGF2 readthrough, transcript variant 1, noncoding RNA may be an oncogene involved in the development of lung cancer. Therefore, we speculate that INS-IGF2 readthrough, transcript variant 1, noncoding RNA represents a potential therapeutic target for lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the safety and feasibility of the completely medial access by page-turning approach (CMAP) for laparoscopic right hemi-colectomy. METHODS: In this retrospective study, the data from 72 patients who underwent laparoscopic right hemi-colectomy with CMAP were analyzed and compared with data from 124 patients who underwent the conventional medial approach performed by the same surgical team from September 2011 to March 2017. RESULT: Complete mesocolic excision (CME) was achieved in 67 of 72 patients (93.1%) with laparoscopic CMAP. The average operation time, blood loss, and specimen length was 135.9 ± 28.3 min, 63.2 ± 32.2 ml, and 23.9 ± 4.7 cm, respectively. The number of lymph nodes harvested was 20.6 ± 7.7, the time-to-flatus was 2.5 ± 0.8 days, the time-to-fluid intake was 3.2 ± 0.8 days, and the average hospital stay was 8.9 ± 4.7 days. No intra-operative complications occurred in this study. The vessel-related complication and total post-operative complication rate was 2.78% (2/72) and 6.94% (5/72), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic CMAP was an alternative approach for CME in laparoscopic right hemi-colectomy, which was proved safe and feasible for right colon cancer.

BACKGROUND: Our objective was to investigate the clinical characteristics of laparoscopic repair for groin hernias in female patients. STUDY DESIGN: The clinical data of 316 female patients (341 hernias) who underwent laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair at Shanghai Minimally Invasive Surgery Center between January 2001 and December 2015 was analyzed retrospectively. The operation-related data were to provide an overview of female groin hernias, preferred surgical approach, and the management of round ligament of uterus. RESULTS: There were 274 transabdominal preperitoneal patch plastic repairs and 67 total extraperitoneal repairs performed on 257 and 59 patients, respectively. The median follow-up period was 48 months. Fifty-eight femoral hernias were noted in 52 patients, of which 18 femoral hernias were incarcerated. Cysts on the round ligament of uterus were found in 39 patients, and most of them underwent laparoscopic resection. Round ligaments of uterus were preserved in 152 patients and transected in 162 patients. The preservation group requires longer operation time and trickier surgical technique. None of the cases was converted to laparotomy. All patients returned to normal activity soon and no recurrence was noted during follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair is well adopted around the world. Meanwhile, there still remain questions to be discussed in female patients. Based on this study, the round ligament cyst could be resected while the operation. Either "open and suture" or keyhole technique will be available to preserve the round ligament of uterus.

BACKGROUND: Cetuximab has been regularly added to the treatments for metastatic colorectal cancer worldwide. However, due to its therapeutic insensitivity and underlying mechanisms being largely unknown, the clinical implementation of cetuximab in colorectal cancer remains limited. METHODS: The gene expression profile GSE56386 was retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Differentially expressed genes were identified between cetuximab-responsive patients and nonresponders, annotated by gene ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis, and further analyzed by protein-protein interaction networks. The integrative prognostic analysis was based on The Cancer Genome Atlas and PrognoScan. RESULTS: 1350 differentially expressed genes were identified with 298 upregulated and 1052 downregulated. Epidermis development, the cornified envelope, calcium ion binding, and amoebiasis were enriched in upregulated genes while digestion, the apical part of the cell, the 3',5'-cyclic-adenosine monophosphate phosphodiesterase activity and pancreatic secretion were found enriched in downregulated genes. The top 10 hub genes were identified, including epithermal growth factor, G-protein subunit ß 5, G-protein subunit γ 4, fibroblast growth factor 2, B-cell lymphoma protein 2, acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase ß, KIT proto-oncogene receptor tyrosine kinase, adenylate cyclase 4, neuropeptide Y, and neurotensin. The hub genes exhibited distinct correlations in cetuximab-treated and untreated genomic profiles (GSE56386, GSE5851 and GSE82236). The highest correlation was found between B-cell lymphoma protein 2 and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase ß in GSE56386. The mRNA expression of hub genes was further validated in the genomic profile GSE65021. Furthermore, B-cell lymphoma protein 2 and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase ß also exhibited highest degrees among the hub genes correlation networks based on The Cancer Genome Atlas. Both B-cell lymphoma and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase ß were not independent prognostic factors for colorectal cancer in univariate and multivariate Cox analysis. However, integrative survival analysis indicated that B-cell lymphoma protein 2 was associated with favorable prognosis (hazard ratio = 0.62, 95% confidence interval, 0.30-0.95, P = .024). DISCUSSION: This in silico analysis provided a feasible and reliable strategy for systematic exploration of insightful target genes, pathways and mechanisms underlying the cetuximab insensitivity in colorectal cancer. B-cell lymphoma protein 2 was associated with favorable prognosis.

INTRODUCTION: Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation equations using creatinine and Cystatin-C appear to be superior to those based on creatinine or Cystatin-C in older adults. We sought to compare the performances of those based on creatinine and Cystatin-C in Chinese older adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: A total of 368 Chinese elderly with CKD underwent the dynamic imaging with technetium-99m diethylene-triamine-pentaacetic acid (99mTc-DTPA), and serum creatinine and Cystatin-C were measured on the same day. The comparison of GFR equations which were creatinine and Cystatin-C-based including chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation (CKD-EPI-Cr-Cys), Berlin Initiative Study (BIS) equation (BIS-Cr-Cys, also known as BIS-2), MA equation (MA-Cr-Cys), and FENG equation (FENG-Cr-Cys) was conducted. RESULTS: Four equations overestimated GFR except for BIS-2 equation in mGFR ≥ 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 (bias: - 1.40, p = 0.7) and CKD-EPI-Cr-Cys equation in mGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2 (bias: - 1.82, p = 0.2) were unbiased. BIS-2 equation had the smallest interquartile range (IQR, ml/min/1.73 m2) from 12.73 in age < 75 years group to 16.05 in age ≥ 75 years group. BIS-2 equation achieved highest values of 79.1% in overall participants, and 80.77% in age ≥ 75 years group, respectively, and CKD-EPI-Cr-Cys equation 82.26% in age < 75 years group. Lowest values of root-mean-square error (RMSE, ml/min/1.73 m2) were seen in BIS-2 equation from 13.22 in age < 75 years group to 16.18 in age ≥ 75 years group. BIS-2 equation had the lowest misclassification rates of 41.76% in age ≥ 75 years group and 34.41% in age < 75 years group. CONCLUSIONS: BIS-2 equation may be optimal for Chinese older adults with CKD especially in older adults ≥ 75 years and with mGFR ≥ 30 ml/min/1.73 m2, while CKD-EPI-Cr-Cys equation could yield a better performance than BIS-2 equation, especially in those < 75 years and mGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Herbal teas have long been consumed by Chinese people for preventive and/or therapeutic healthcare. Although herbal teas are widely consumed by many cultural groups in different regions of China, no thorough review has been undertaken to assess the diversity of the country's herbal tea usage. This literature review, complemented by a quantitative survey in an important tea market in Kunming, begins to fill this knowledge gap. AIMS OF THE STUDY: The study aims to summarize the current knowledge of plant species used as herbal teas by different cultural groups in different regions of China, with a focus on the teas' perceived traditional healthcare functions, related phytochemical/pharmaceutical research, and safety issues. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study involved a comprehensive literature review and a market survey. The literature review was based on published ethnobotanical studies of herbal teas in China. We searched the Web of Science™, ELSEVIER, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and the China Science and Technology Journal Database to locate relevant studies (including journal articles, Masters/PhD dissertations and books) that were published before March 2017. A species list was compiled based on the review and supplemented with information retrieved from the Scifinder database (https://scifinder.cas.org) and the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010). A Use Value Index was employed for ranking the most cited species. Based on the 29 most cited species, we discussed the current research status in relation to healthcare benefits and safety concerns of herbal teas in China. To better understand the current status of the herbal tea market in China, we also surveyed 136 tea vendors at the Xiongda Tea Market in Kunming. Information gathered from the survey included the species sold, the sale prices and the form of the herbal tea product. RESULTS: The literature identified 759 plant species used as herbal tea in China and the market survey identified an additional 23 species. Most of the species used were from the Leguminosae, Compositae and Lamiaceae families. Twenty two provinces and fourteen ethnic minority groups have records on the consumption of herbal teas. Southern China uses up to 82% of the total species, and 211 out of 759 species are used by minority groups. Thirty categories of traditional healthcare functions are linked with herbal teas, with clearing away heat, relieving toxicity and suppressing cough being the most important functions. There is phytochemical/pharmaceutical evidence to support the claimed healthcare benefits of some Chinese herbal teas. Although Chinese herbal teas are generally safe to consume, overdoses of some herbal teas and some unapproved mixtures of species may cause health risks. Based on our market survey, the prices of most herbal teas range between 100 and 200 RMB (US$15-30) per kg. CONCLUSIONS: A rich array of herbal tea species with various traditional healthcare functions have long been used in China, and as such there is a huge market potential for Chinese herbal teas. More pharmaceutical/phytochemical research is needed to assess a wide range of perceived healthcare benefits of Chinese herbal teas. Our research highlights the need to study herbal teas through an ethnopharmacological perspective and by employing a holistic approach, which requires greater consideration of traditional knowledge in the pharmacological research design. Product safety and sustainability issues should also be considered, so the traditional applications of herbal teas can be transformed to efficient health boosting functional products.

Different silicon sources caused diverse Al spatial distribution in HZSM-5, and this affected the hierarchical structures and catalytic performance of desilicated zeolites. After being treated with 0.1 M NaOH, HZSM-5 zeolites synthesized with silica sol exhibited relatively widely distributed mesopores and channels, and possessed highly improved propylene selectivity and activity stability.

PURPOSE: We set out to explore the probability of MRI-detected extramural vascular invasion (mr-EMVI) before chemoradiation to predict responses to chemoradiation and survival in stage T3 rectal cancer patients. METHODS: A total of 100 patients with T3 rectal cancer who underwent MRI examination and received neoadjuvant chemoradiation and surgery were enrolled. The correlation between mr-EMVI and other clinical factors were analyzed by chi-square. Logistic regression model was performed to select the potential factors influencing tumor responses to neoadjuvant chemoradiation. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was performed to explore potential predictors of survival. RESULTS: The positive mr-EMVI result was more likely to be present in patients with a higher T3 subgroup (T3a+b = 7.1% vs. T3c+d = 90.1%, P < 0.001) and more likely in patients with mesorectal fascia involvement than in those without MRF (65% vs. 38.8%, P = 0.034). Compared with mr-EMVI (+) patients, more mr-EMVI (-) patients showed a good response (staged ≤ ypT2N0) (odds ratio [OR], 3.020; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.071-8.517; P = 0.037). In univariate analysis, mr-EMVI (+) (hazard ratio [HR], 5.374; 95% CI, 1.210-23.872; P = 0.027) and lower rectal cancers (HR, 3.326; 95% CI, 1.135-9.743; P = 0.028) were significantly associated with decreased disease-free survival. A positive mr-EMVI status (HR, 5.727; 95% CI, 1.286-25.594; P = 0.022) and lower rectal cancers (HR, 3.137; 95% CI, 1.127-8.729; P = 0.029) also served as prognostic factors related to decreased disease-free survival in multivariate analysis. CONCLUSION: The mr-EMVI status before chemoradiation is a significant prognostic factor and could be used for identifying T3 rectal cancer patients who might benefit from neoadjuvant chemoradiation.

OBJECTIVE: To discusses the clinical effects of arthroscopy combined with minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis(MIPPO) technology in treating Schatzker IV tibial plateau fractures. METHODS: From January 2012 to January 2016, 19 patients with Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures were treated with arthroscopy combined with minimally invasive technique including 12 males and 7 females with an average age of 46.5 years old ranging from 19 to 78 years old. Patients were suffering knee pain, swelling, flexion and extension limited, and other symptoms preoperative. Patients were followed up and assessed by Rasmussen knee function score. RESULTS: No infection, traumatic arthritis, and knee joint valgus occurred after operation. Nineteen cases were followed up for 12 to 24 months with an average of 18.6 months. Fracture healing time was 3 to 5 months with an average of 3.8 months. The knee pain and limited mobility improved significantly. The range of autonomic movement of joints was from 90 to 136 degrees. According to Rasmussen functional score criteria, the total score was 27.00±2.49, the result was excellent in 16 cases, good in 2 cases, fair in 1 case. CONCLUSIONS: Arthroscopic treatment for Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures combined with MIPPO can simultaneously treat internal structural injuries such as meniscus and other knee joints, with less trauma, fewer complications, and faster joint function recovery, but we must strictly grasp surgical indications and avoid expanding injuries.

RESUMO

Laparoscopic techniques are now well pervading in the treatment of inguinal hernia. This study aims to investigate the laparoscopic strategy for recurrent inguinal hernia repair. Laparoscopic technique was retrospectively applied to 330 patients with 352 recurrent inguinal hernias in the past 14 years. The surgical strategies were further evaluated. There were 22 cases with bilateral recurrent hernias, whereas the rest 308 cases with unilateral disorders. Patients were further categorized by previous repair approaches as high ligation, sclerotherapy, conventional suture repair, Lichtenstein repair, plug and patch repair, and preperitoneal repair. All cases were successfully repaired by laparoscopic approaches including transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) (288 cases), totally extraperitoneal (50 cases), and intraperitoneal onlay mesh (14 cases). The median operation duration was 39.5 ± 13.4 minutes. The average Visual Analog Scales score on postoperative day 1 was 2.4 ± 1.1. The median follow-up time was 36 (14-61) months. There was one case of recurrence during the follow-ups. One severe complication, i.e., bowel injury, was observed and cured, whereas other complications were as follows: 22 seroma, 8 urinary retention, 3 transient paresthesia, and 1 ileus. Laparoscopic procedures for recurrence inguinal hernia are safe and applicable. A surgeon can choose to reinforce the myopectineal orifice or only fix the hernia defect accordingly. The strategy of choosing TAPP and/or totally extraperitoneal depends on the type of previous repair, the exact anatomical position of the previous implanted mesh, and more importantly, the surgeon's experience. Moreover, the intraperitoneal onlay mesh technique can be regarded as a backup option for TAPP in certain cases.

Neuropeptide F (NPF) signaling systems are widespread and highly evolutionarily conserved from vertebrates to invertebrates. In fact, NPF has been identified in many insect species and plays regulatory roles in diverse physiological processes, such as feeding, learning, reproduction and stress responses. NPF operates by interacting with the NPF receptor (NPFR). Here, we characterized and determined the presumed role of NPF signaling in the wingless parthenogenetic pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum. Quantitative real-time reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR) revealed that the expression levels of both NPF and NPFR transcripts varied across developmental stages, which implies that the NPF signaling system might participate in the developmental regulation of aphid physiological processes or behaviors. The NPF transcript was mainly detected in the head but not in the gut, whereas the NPFR transcript was mainly detected in both the gut and head. In addition, the NPF transcript levels were markedly up-regulated in starved aphids compared with satiated aphids, and the transcript levels recovered after re-feeding. In contrast, the NPFR transcript levels remained stable in starved and re-fed aphids. Furthermore, RNAi knockdown by the injection of NPF dsRNA into wingless adult aphids significantly reduced their food intake. Further analysis of the modification of aphid feeding behavior on broad bean plants using electrical penetration graphs (EPGs) revealed that both the probing time and the total duration of phloem activity decreased significantly in the NPF treatment group. These results indicated a lower appetite for food after NPF knockdown, which could explain the reduction in aphid food intake. NPF silencing was also shown to reduce reproduction but not survival in aphids. Overall, the results of these experiments suggest that NPF plays an important role in regulation of feeding in A. pisum.

In our daily lives, a body with a high initial velocity sliding freely on a rough surface moves a longer distance than that with a low initial velocity. However, such a phenomenon may not occur in the microscopic world. The dynamical behavior of a one-dimensional atom chain (1DAC) sliding on a substrate is investigated in this study by using a modified Frenkel-Kontorova model, in which the vibration of atoms on the substrate is considered. The dependence of sliding distance on initial velocity is examined. Result shows that although sliding distance is proportional to the initial value for most velocities, such a linear relation does not exist in some special velocities. This phenomenon is explained by a theoretical analysis of phonon excitation. The physical process is divided into three stages. The first stage is a superlubric sliding process with small amplitude of the vibrication of the atoms. The single-mode phonon is excited in the second stage. In the third stage, the system exhibits instability because of multiple-mode phonon excitations. In addition, the dependence of the coupling strength between 1DAC and the substrate is investigated. The findings are helpful in understanding the energy dissipation mechanism of friction.

Accumulating evidence demonstrates that a series of differentially expressed lncRNAs is important in tumorigenesis. However, the function of many of the lncRNAs in lung cancer remains elusive. In the present study, we used microarray analysis to identify lncRNAs that are dysregulated in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as compared with normal tissues. Among the dysregulated lncRNAs, we identified TFPI2AS1, an antisense transcript of the tumor suppressor TFPI2 (tissue factor pathway inhibitor 2). TFPI2AS1 was shown to be markedly upregulated in NSCLC patient tumors as compared to paired non-tumor samples. TFPI2AS1 knockdown increased NSCLC cell proliferation and migration, which was associated with enhanced G1/S transition and downregulation of cyclin D1 and cyclin-dependent kinases 2 (CDK2), while TFPI2AS1 overexpression had the opposite effect. Knockdown and overexpression experiments also suggested that TFPI2AS1 regulates NSCLC cell migration and AKT activation. Moreover, TFPI2AS1 is a positive regulator of TFPI2. Our findings bring new insights for understanding the role of TFPI2AS1 in mediating the proliferation and migration of NSCLC cells by regulating TFPI2 expression.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety and feasibility of totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in the distal gastrectomy with D2 dissection for gastric cancer. We also summarized the preliminary experience of totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was done in 51 cases of total laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in the distant gastrectomy with D2 dissection for gastric cancer in our hospital from September 2014 to December 2015. RESULTS: All of 51 cases underwent total laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis. All the procedures were performed successfully. There were neither conversions to open surgery nor intraoperative complications in all 51 cases. In this study, the median operative time was 170 (135-210) min and the median time of anastomosis was 27 (24-41) min. The blood loss was 60 (30-110) ml. The time to flatus and length of postoperative hospital stay were 2 (1-3) days, and 8 (7-12) days, respectively. The mean lymph node harvest was 34 (18-49). One anastomotic bleeding occurred postoperatively which was cured by conservative treatment. No major postoperative complication occurred, such as anastomotic leak, anastomotic stenosis, and Roux stasis syndrome. After a short-term follow-up, no recanalization or reflux gastritis was encountered by endoscopy. CONCLUSION: The totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in distal gastrectomy with lymph node dissection for gastric cancer is safe and feasible, with a very low rate of recanalization and reflux gastritis.

Co9 S8 is considered a promising candidate as the anode material in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its remarkable electrical conductivity, high theoretical capacity, and low cost. However, the practical application of Co9 S8 is greatly restricted because of its poor cycling stability and rate performance, which result mainly from the large volume expansion and dissolution of the polysulfide intermediates during the charge/discharge process. In this report, Co9 S8 embedded in N-rich carbon hollow spheres are successfully designed and synthesized through an in situ pyrolysis and sulfurization process, employing the well-known ZIF-67 as the precursor and ethanethiol as the sulfur source. Co9 S8 nanoparticles embedded in the N-rich hollow carbon shell exhibit excellent lithium storage properties at a high charge/discharge rate. A discharge capacity of 784 mAh g-1 is obtained upon battery testing at a current density of 1 C (544 mA g-1 ). Even upon cycling at a current density of 4 C, the as-prepared Co9 S8 /N-C can still deliver a discharge capacity of 518 mAh g-1 . The excellent battery performance can be attributed to the hollow structure as well as the N-rich carbon encapsulation. Moreover, this metal-organic framework sulfurization route also shows good generality for the synthesis of other metal sulfide-carbon composites such as ZnS/N-C and Cu2 S/C.

The application of hematite in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has been severely limited because of its poor cycling stability and rate performance. To solve this problem, hematite nanoparticles with oxygen vacancies have been rationally designed by a facile sol-gel method and a sequential carbon-thermic reduction process. Thanks to the existence of oxygen vacancies, the electrochemical performance of the as-obtained hematite nanoparticles is greatly enhancing. When used as the anode material in LIBs, it can deliver a reversible capacity of 1252 mAh g-1 at 2 C after 400 cycles. Meanwhile, the as-obtained hematite nanoparticles also exhibit excellent rate performance as compared to its counterparts. This method not only provides a new approach for the development of hematite with enhanced electrochemical performance but also sheds new light on the synthesis of other kinds of metal oxides with oxygen vacancies.
