RESUMO

To investigate the predictive value of [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission computed tomography(PET)/CT for disease progression in patients with dermatomyositis (DM) and interstitial lung diseases (ILD). Sixty-seven DM patients who underwent [18F] FDG-PET/CT imaging were retrospectively analyzed from January 2012 to September 2017 at PLA General Hospital. Their clinical manifestations and imaging characteristics were recorded. Compared with those chronically progressed (C-ILD), patients with rapid progression (RP-ILD) had significantly higher erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and standardized uptake value (SUV) in lungs (P<0.05). In patients with RP-ILD, SUV in lungs was positively correlated with age, disease course, and ESR. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis suggested that when lung SUV cut off value was 2.25, the sensitivity and specificity to predict disease progression was 77.8% and 72.8%, respectively. Old age, longer disease course, low creatine kinase level, higher ESR, and high SUV are prognostic factors for DM-associated ILD.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a bioactive molecule which participates in many physical and pathological processes. Although LPA receptor 6 (LPAR6), the last identified LPA receptor, has been reported to have diverse effects in multiple cancers, including breast cancer, its effects and functioning mechanisms are not fully known. METHODS: Multiple public databases were used to investigate the mRNA expression of LPAR6, its prognostic value, and potential mechanisms in breast cancer. Western blotting was performed to validate the differential expression of LPAR6 in breast cancer tissues and their adjacent tissues. Furthermore, in vitro experiments were used to explore the effects of LPAR6 on breast cancer. Additionally, TargetScan and miRWalk were used to identify potential upstream regulating miRNAs and validated the relationship between miR-27a-3p and LPAR6 via real-time polymerase chain reaction and an in vitro rescue assay. RESULTS: LPAR6 was significantly downregulated in breast cancer at transcriptional and translational levels. Decreased LPAR6 expression in breast cancer is significantly correlated with poor overall survival, disease-free survival, and distal metastasis-free survival, particularly for hormone receptor-positive patients, regardless of lymph node metastatic status. In vitro gain and loss-of-function assays indicated that LPAR6 attenuated breast cancer cell proliferation. The analyses of TCGA and METABRIC datasets revealed that LPAR6 may regulate the cell cycle signal pathway. Furthermore, the expression of LPAR6 could be positively regulated by miR-27a-3p. The knockdown of miR-27a-3p increased cell proliferation, and ectopic expression of LPAR6 could partly rescue this phenotype. CONCLUSION: LPAR6 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer and is positively regulated by miR-27a-3p.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed at investigating the surface morphology and nanotopography of normal enamel (NE) and developmentally hypomineralised enamel (HE) when subjected to various pretreatment protocols under scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). METHODS: Sixteen NE, 16 creamy/white (CW) HE and 16 yellow/brown (YB) HE specimens sectioned from extracted hypomineralised first permanent molars (FPMs) were included in this study. They were randomly distributed into 12 experimental groups (n = 4). Each group involved the following: (1) deproteinisation with Papacarie Duo® gel or no deproteinisation, and (2) the use of Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive (Scotchbond) in self-etch (SE) mode or 37% phosphoric acid etchant. Subsequently, the surface morphology and nanotopography of pretreated enamel specimens were evaluated under SEM and AFM, respectively. RESULTS: SEM observation showed that deproteinisation with Papacarie Duo® gel before phosphoric acid etching led to favourable etching patterns. This was consistent across all groups irrespective of the type of enamel specimen and the severity of hypomineralisation. In contrast, AFM results identified three factors that influenced surface parameters: (1) type of enamel specimen, (2) severity of hypomineralisation and (3) etching mode. YB HE recorded higher surface roughness values than CW HE and NE when subjected to the same pretreatment protocol. Deproteinisation and the application of Scotchbond in SE mode led to minimal topographic changes; however, acid etching was associated with an increase in surface roughness. CONCLUSION: Deproteinisation with Papacarie Duo® gel followed by acid etching contributed to improved etching patterns on HE.

RESUMO

Objectives: To explore the feasibility of anterior medial fenestration approach in situ reduction and fixation in the treatment of PipkinⅠ and Ⅱ femoral head fractures, and to explore the clinical effect of this operation. Methods: Hips of two anti-corrosion adult specimens treated with formalin were dissected, then anatomical structures and directional characteristics of anterior medial main muscles, ligaments, blood vessels and nerves were observed. The anterior medial fenestration approach was performed on bilateral hips of four fresh frozen specimens to determine pulling direction of stripped muscles and ligaments required during operation, and to observe and analyze vascular and nerve traction protection directions exposed in the approach.Determine extent of exposure to the approach and assess feasibility of this approach. The clinical data of 12 patients with Pipkin Ⅰ and Ⅱ femoral head fractures who underwent in situ reduction and fixation of anterior medial fenestration at Department of Orthopaedics,Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University from February 2016 to April 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 3 males and 9 females with an age of 48.5 years(range:37 to 59 years). There were 8 cases of Pipkin type Ⅰ and 4 cases of Pipkin type Ⅱ.The operation time, blood loss, fracture healing time, last Thompson-Epstein evaluation and Harris score were observed. Results: Anterior medial fenestration approach to expose the femoral head in 4 bilateral hips with a total of 8 sides of fresh frozen specimens. The upper boundary of observation fenestration was pubic body (anterior acetabulum),and the outer upper boundary was iliacus and psoas muscle. The lateral boundary is rectus femoris and femoral vessels, the lower boundary was transverse branch of the medial femoral circumflex artery and vein. The medial boundary was pubis muscle, short adductor muscle and long adductor muscle.Pubofemoral and iliofemoral ligament were seen in fenestration. Four quadrants in front of femoral head in fenestration can be seen after cutting switch capsule active hip joint. In 12 patients with femoral head fracture, the operation time was 107.5 minutes(range:90 to 135 minutes),and the intraoperative bleeding volume was 115.0 ml(range:85 to 150 ml).The patients were followed up for 18.6 months(range:12 to 28 months). The fracture healing time of 12 patients was 144.2 days(range:120 to 180 days). The curative effect was evaluated according to Thompson-Epstein standard at the last follow-up:excellent in 6 cases, good in 4 cases and fair in 2 cases. At the last follow-up,the Harris score of hip joints was 85.1(range:75 to 93). Conclusions: Anterior medial fenestration in situ reduction and fixation surgery is feasible for the treatment of Pipkin Ⅰ and Ⅱ femoral head fractures. The short and midterm follow-up reveal satisfactory effect.

RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of left cardiac sympathetic denervation (LCSD) in inherited arrhythmia patients with adrenergic activity-induced malignant ventricular arrhythmia, and observe exercise-stress test features before and after LCSD. Methods: This retrospective observational study included catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia(CPVT) and long QT syndromes(LQTS) patients who underwent video-assisted LCSD at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital and Peking University People's Hospital from September 2006 to May 2020. The indications for LCSD surgery were intolerant or refractory to beta-blocker medication. Clinical and exercise-stress tests data of included patients were collected before and 1 month after LCSD. Heart rate, exercise tolerance, atrial and ventricular arrhythmia, QTc interval and predictors for sudden cardiac death were analyzed. Patents were regularly followed up at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after LCSD and then once every year thereafter. Cardiac events and medication adjustment records were collected. Results: Five patients (2 CPVT, 1 LQT1, and 2 LQT2)were included in the study. All patients experienced syncope as first symptom at the median age of 12(10, 16)years, and underwent LCSD at the median age of 21(16, 26)years, Baseline heart rate was similar before and after LCSD ((65.6±6.5) beats/min vs. (68.0±11.1) beats/min, P=0.57); while maximum workload tended to be lower after LCSD ((12.1±2.8) metabolic equivalents (METS) before surgery vs. (10.5±2.4) METS after surgery, P=0.07). Incidence of atrial and ventricular arrhythmia were significantly reduced post LCSD, and the ventricular arrhythmia score was decreased after LCSD in CPVT patients (4 points before LCSD vs. 3 points after LCSD in case 1;5 points before LCSD vs. 3 points after LCSD in case 2). QTc interval was shortened significantly in three LQTs patients (QTc interval at baseline heart rate: (546.6±72.3) ms before surgery vs. (493±61.1) ms after LCSD, P=0.047; QTc interval at maximal exercise heart rate: (516.3±73.7) ms before surgery vs. (486.7±64.2)ms after LCSD, P=0.035). Additionally, sudden cardiac death risk indicator ΔHRR1 (heart rate decreasing value within the first 1 min during recovery phase) decreased from (51.5±21.1) beats/min before surgery to (32.0±13.9) beats/min after surgery (P=0.035). During a median follow-up of 1(1, 4) year, all five patients were on low dosage of propranolol (37.0±21.7) mg/d. Cardiac events free survival was achieved in four out of 5 patients (80%) after sympathectomy, while 1 case suffered from sudden cardiac death after emotional stress. Conclusion: LCSD surgery can be safely and effectively performed in most hereditary arrhythmia patients with adrenergic activity-induced life-threatening cardiac events. Exercise stress test results show that LCSD could reduce malignant arrhythmias and improve sudden cardiac death risk indicators without decreasing heart rate.

RESUMO

Abstract: Objective To identify species of common sarcosaprophagous flies based on digital image analysis of veins, in order to provide new idea for fast and accurate species identification of sarcosaprophagous flies in forensic entomology. Methods Random trapping of 226 male and female sarcosaprophagous flies that comprised of 7 common species, including Sarcophaga peregrina, Parasarcophaga ruficornis, Sarcophaga dux, Seniorwhitea reciproca, Bercaea cruentata, Aldrichina grahami, and Synthesiomysia nudiseta with carrion in the field was conducted. The 17 landmarks on the right wing of each fly were digitally processed and the images were analyzed. The effects of allometry were evaluated using a permutation test. Wing shape variations among 7 sarcosaprophagous fly species and female species was analyzed using canonical variate analysis (CVA). Additionally, cross-validation test was used to evaluate the reliability of classification. Results Among 7 sarcosaprophagous fly species and female species, the effect of allometry had statistical significance (P<0.05). The CVA results showed that among 7 sarcosaprophagous fly species and female species, differences in the wing shape were significant, and the first two canonical variates accounted for 82.9% and 84.1% of the total variation of vein shape. Vein digital image analysis can be used to separate the 7 common sarcosaprophagous flies, with an overall species identification accuracy of 81.2%-100.0%, and with a species identification accuracy of 75.0%-100.0% to distinguish the female flies of the 7 sarcosaprophagous flies species. Conclusion Vein digital image analysis is a relatively convenient and reliable method for identification of insect species, which can be used for species identification of common sarcosaprophagous flies.

RESUMO

Embedded in longer term warming are extreme climatic events such as heatwaves and droughts that are increasing in frequency, duration and intensity. Changes in climate attributes such as temperature are often measured over larger spatial scales, whereas environmental conditions to which many small ectothermic arthropods are exposed are largely determined by small-scale local conditions. Exposed edges of plant patches often exhibit significant short-term (daily) variation to abiotic factors due to wind exposure and sun radiation. By contrast, within plant patches, abiotic conditions are generally much more stable and thus less variable. Over an eight-week period in the summer of 2020, including an actual heatwave, we measured small-scale (1 m2) temperature variation in patches of forbs in experimental mesocosms. We found that soil surface temperatures at the edge of the mesocosms were more variable than those within mesocosms. Drought treatment two years earlier, amplified this effect but only at the edges of the mesocosms. Within a plant patch both at the soil surface and within the canopy, the temperature was always lower than the ambient air temperature. The temperature of the soil surface at the edge of a patch may exceed the ambient air temperature when ambient air temperatures rise above 23 °C. This effect progressively increased with ambient temperature. We discuss how microscale-variation in temperature may affect small ectotherms such as insects that have limited ability to thermoregulate, in particular under conditions of extreme heat.

RESUMO

Objective: To determine the correlation between the titer of anti-muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (anti-MuSK) antibodies (Abs) and the severity and prognosis of Musk-associated myasthenia gravis (Musk-MG). Methods: A total of 33 MuSK-MG patients diagnosed at Department of Neurology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital from May 2018 to June 2020 were prospectively included. Patients were divided into different groups according to immune state, and the immune naive patients were further divided by the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) classification. There were 28 Musk-MG patients who completed the follow-up and subdivided into different groups according to post-intervention status (PIS). Twenty-five patients who received immunotherapy were divided into corticosteroid monotherapy group (n=17) and corticosteroid combined with immunosuppressant group (n=8). The comparison of Ab titers between different MGFA groups and PIS groups was determined by Kruskal-Wallis method, and the comparison of Ab titers between different time points was analyzed by Mann-Whitney U method. Results: There were 11 males and 22 females included in the study, with an onset age of 48 (18, 73) years, of which 16 cases were immune naive and 17 cases were treated with corticosteroids or immunosuppressant at least once. In immune naive population, a significant difference of Ab titers among different MGFA phenotypes was detected (P=0.04). Ab titers were reduced by immunosuppression therapy (the median value decreased from 1.20 to 0.87, P=0.01). Twenty-four (85.7%) MuSK-MG patients achieved a good prognosis (PIS-PR/MM), 1 (3.6%) case achieved improvement (PIS-I), and 3 (10.7%) patients' condition worsened (PIS-W), there was no significant difference of Ab titers among the three groups (P=0.21). Meanwhile, there was no significant difference of Ab titers between different treatment groups (P=0.95). Conclusions: In the immune naive state, the concentration of MuSK-Ab is consistent with the severity of the disease, and the Ab titers decrease after immunotherapy. Change of Ab titers is related to the daily dosage of corticosteroid and is not consistent with PIS grades.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Klebsiella pneumoniae infections can cause septic shock, multiorgan failure, and death. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included adults with K pneumoniae bacteraemia treated from 1 January 2009 to 30 June 2017. Demographics, microbiology, and outcomes were analysed. The primary outcome was 90-day all-cause mortality; secondary outcomes were intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital mortalities, ICU and hospital lengths of stay, and ICU ventilator duration. RESULTS: In total, 984 patients had K pneumoniae bacteraemia; of them, 686 received appropriate empirical antibiotics. Overall, 205 patients required intensive care. Older age (odds ratio [OR]=1.60; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.120-2.295; P=0.010), chronic kidney disease (OR=1.81; 95% CI=1.181- 2.785; P=0.007), mechanical ventilation (OR=1.79; 95% CI=1.188-2.681; P=0.005), pneumonia (OR=1.50; 95% CI=1.030-2.187; P=0.034), and carbapenem-resistant or extended-spectrum betalactamase (ESBL)-producing isolates (OR=12.51; 95% CI=7.886-19.487; P<0.001) were associated with greater risk of inappropriate empirical treatment. Ninety-day mortality was significantly higher among patients with inappropriate empirical treatment; independent predictors included pneumonia (hazard ratio [HR]=2.94; 95% CI=2.271-3.808; P<0.001), gastrointestinal infection (HR=2.77; 95% CI=2.055-3.744; P<0.001), failed empirical antibiotics (HR=2.45; 95% CI=1.928-3.124; P<0.001), older age (HR=1.79; 95% CI=1.356-2.371; P<0.001), solid tumour (HR=1.77; 95% CI=1.401-2.231; P<0.001), carbapenem-resistant or ESBL-producing isolates (HR=1.64; 95% CI=1.170-2.297; P=0.004), patients admitted through the Department of Medicine (HR=1.39; 95% CI=1.076-1.800; P=0.012), and higher total Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score (HR=1.09; 95% CI=1.058-1.112; P=0.023). Among ICU patients, inappropriate empirical antibiotic treatment was significantly associated with increased ventilator duration and 90-day mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteraemia was associated with high 90-day and ICU mortalities; 90-day mortality increased with inappropriate empirical antibiotic treatment.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the risk factors for death in children with acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective study. Thirty-nine children with ANE were from PICUs in 4 centers from December 1, 2014 to December 1, 2020. The 4 participating centers were Beijing Children's Hospital, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, Hebei Children's Hospital, and Bao'an Maternity & Child Health Hospital. Patients were divided into survival and non-survival groups by the outcome at discharge, and the differences in clinical data between the two groups were compared. Risk factors for death in children with ANE and the odds ratios (OR) were analyzed by univariable Logistic regression. Results: Thirty-nine children with ANE were included. There were 18 males and 21 females. The median onset age was 30 months. The mortality at discharge was 41% (16/39). The onset age of most patients (74%, 29/39) was younger than 4 years old. Influenza virus was the most common precursor infection (80%, 20/25). Patients with shock at PICU admission were more common in the non-survival group (12/16 vs. 17% (4/23), P=0.001). Glasgow coma score (GCS) at PICU admission was significantly lower in the non-survival group than survival group (3 (3, 6) vs. 6 (5, 7), Z=-2.598, P=0.009). The optimal cut-off value was 4. The proportion of patients with GCS ≤ 4 at PICU admission was higher in the non-survival group (10/16 vs. 22% (5/23), P=0.018). ANE severity score (ANE-SS) at PICU admission was significantly higher in the non-survival group (5 (2, 6) vs. 2 (1, 4), Z=-2.436, P=0.015). The proportion of patients with high risk ANE-SS was higher in non-survival group than the survival group (9/16 vs. 22% (5/23), P=0.043). The proportion of application of high-dose methylprednisolone (20 mg/(kg·d)) was significantly higher in survival group than non-survival group (43% (10/23) vs. 1/13, P=0.031). Univariable Logistic regression indicated that risk factors for death in children with ANE were shock (OR=14.250, 95%CI 2.985-68.018, P=0.001), GCS≤4 (OR=6.000, 95%CI 1.456-24.733, P=0.013) and high risk ANE-SS (OR=4.629, 95%CI 1.142-18.752, P=0.032) at PICU admission. Conclusions: ANE usually occurs in children under 4 years old after influenza infection. Shock, GCS≤4 and high risk ANE-SS at PICU admission were risk factors for death in children with ANE. High-dose methylprednisolone may improve the prognosis of children with ANE.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) represents the most common subtype of thyroid cancer (TC). This study was set out to explore the potential effect of CHD1L on PTC and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: We searched for T2DM susceptibility genes through the GWAS database and obtained T2DM-related differentially expressed gene from the GEO database. The expression and clinical data of TC and normal samples were collated from the TCGA database. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was subsequently applied to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the CHD1L for the diagnosis of PTC. The MCP-counter package in R language was then utilized to generate immune cell score to evaluate the relationship between CHD1L expression and immune cells. Then, we performed functional enrichment analysis of co-expressed genes and DEGs to determine significantly enriched GO terms and KEGG to predict the potential functions of CHD1L in PTC samples and T2DM adipose tissue. RESULTS: From two genes (ABCB9, CHD1L) were identified to be DEGs (p < 1 * 10-5) that exerted effects on survival (HR > 1, p < 0.05) in PTC and served as T2DM susceptibility genes. The gene expression matrix-based scoring of immunocytes suggested that PTC samples with high and low CHD1L expression presented with significant differences in the tumor microenvironment (TME). The enrichment analysis of CHD1L co-expressed genes and DEGs suggested that CHD1L was involved in multiple pathways to regulate the development of PTC. Among them, Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus infection, salmonella infection and TNF signaling pathways were highlighted as the three most relevant pathways. GSEA analysis, employed to analyze the genome dataset of PTC samples and T2DM adipose tissue presenting with high and low expression groups of CHD1L, suggests that these differential genes are related to chemokine signaling pathway, leukocyte transendothelial migration and TCELL receptor signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: CHD1L may potentially serve as an early diagnostic biomarker for PTC, and a target of immunotherapy for PTC and T2DM.

RESUMO

Currently, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is the first-line treatment for patients with complicated Stanford type B aortic dissections. However, TEVAR does not occlude the distal entry tear of dissections, and blood flow persists in the false lumen. Dissections might progress in some patients. Studies showed that distal entry tear increased the possibility of late aortic events during follow-up. Thus, treatment of distal entry tear is necessary in some high-risk patients after TEVAR. In this article, the current treatment strategies of distal entry tear are summarized, which include PETTICOAT, STABILISE, covered stent, fenestrated and branched stent-grafts, false lumen embolization, vascular occluder, and Knickerbocker. However, the number of the cases of most approaches is so limited that the indications and effectiveness need to be further studied. Selecting the right treatment for the right patient is of great importance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of surface roughness on the time-dependent wear performance of lithium disilicate (LD) glass-ceramic. METHODS: Friction pairs (pin and disk specimens) were prepared by IPS e.max® Press lithium disilicate glass-ceramic. The lateral faces of friction pairs (N = 12) were grinded with silicon carbide papers, and 6 friction pairs were polished with a 0.25 µm diamond suspension after grinding. The friction pairs were tested for wear performance using a pin-on-disk tribometer with 10 N for 1.02 × 106 wear cycles in artificial saliva. Wear analysis of the pin and disk was performed with a 3D profilometer. The microstructure and worn surface morphology were examined with scanning electron microscopy. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post-hoc pairwise comparison were used to analyze the wear data. RESULTS: The two group LD friction pairs presented strong time-dependent wear performance. The polished group (GP) exhibited a high wear rate and extensive surface wear during 0-1 × 105 cycles (running-in wear stage). The wear rate, height loss and surface roughness were obviously lower than those of grinded group (GG) in running-in wear stage. However, these wear parameters were similar during the steady wear stage. The worn surface topographies of the pin and disk in GP were smoother at the same cycle before the GG entering the steady wear stage. CONCLUSION: Running-in, which means the initial stage of wear process, is a critical period to determine the final wear loss and surface degradation, when compare the wear behavior of lithium disilicate ceramic with different initial surface states. Ceramic layer with smooth contact area leads to low wear rate and short running-in wear stage.

RESUMO

This study aimed to determine the dietary tryptophan (Trp) requirement for laying duck breeders. A total of 504 Longyan duck breeders (body weight: 1.20 ± 0.02 kg) aged 22 wk were randomly allocated to 6 treatments, each with 6 replicates of 14 ducks. During the next 16 wk, birds were fed the basal diet with total Trp contents of 1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00, 5.00 and 6.00 g/kg, respectively. Dietary Trp levels increased egg production, egg mass and feed intake of duck breeders from 22 to 37 wk (P < 0.05), and there were linear and quadratic effects of Trp level (P < 0.05). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) quadratically decreased with dietary Trp levels (P < 0.05). Dietary Trp levels decreased (P < 0.05) egg albumen height and Haugh unit at wk 8 or 12, and the responses were linear and quadratic (P < 0.05). The body weight of breeders, absolute and relative weight of oviduct, number and total weight of preovulatory follicles (POF), and its proportion relative to ovarian weight were increased (P < 0.05), and the responses were linear (P < 0.01) and quadratic (P < 0.001). Ovarian weight increased quadratically (P < 0.05), and the mean weight of POF increased (P < 0.05), linearly and quadratically. The proportion of small yellow follicles relative to ovary weight decreased (P < 0.01) linearly and quadratically. At wk 16 of the trial period, the serum albumin content and alanine aminotransferase activity decreased (P < 0.05) and the creatinine content increased (P < 0.01) linearly and quadratically. The Trp requirements were estimated to be 3.14 g/kg for optimizing egg production, 2.93 g/kg for egg mass, and 2.92 g/kg for FCR. Overall, dietary Trp levels (1 to 6 g/kg) affected productive performance, egg quality, reproductive organ and ovarian follicle development, and serum biochemical indices of layer duck breeders, and a diet containing 2.9 to 3.1 g Trp per kg feed was adequate during the laying period (22 to 37 wk of age).

RESUMO

Circulating microRNAs (c-miRs) show promise as biomarkers. This systematic review explores their potential association with age-related fracture/osteoporosis (OP), osteoarthritis (OA) and sarcopenia (SP), as well as cross-disease association. Most overlap occurred between OA and OP, suggesting potentially shared microRNA activity. There was little agreement in results across studies. Few reported receiver operating characteristic analysis (ROC) and many identified significant dysregulation in disease, but direction of effect was commonly conflicting. c-miRs with most evidence for consistency in dysregulation included miR-146a, miR-155 and miR-98 for OA (upregulated). Area under the curve (AUC) for miR-146a biomarker performance was AUC 0.92, p = 0.028. miR-125b (AUC 0.76-0.89), miR-100, miR-148a and miR-24 were consistently upregulated in OP. Insufficient evidence exists for c-miRs in SP. Study quality was typically rated intermediate/high risk of bias. Wide study heterogeneity meant meta-analysis was not possible. We provide detailed critique and recommendations for future approaches in c-miR analyses based on this review.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: This study was conducted to investigate the inactivation of foodborne pathogens and the quality characteristics of fresh chicken breasts after UVC light-emitting diode (UVC-LED) treatment. Fresh chicken breasts were separately inoculated with Salmonella Typhimurium, Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Listeria monocytogenes at initial populations of 6.01, 5.80, and 6.22 log CFU/cm2, respectively, and then treated with UVC-LED irradiation at 1,000 to 4,000 mJ/cm2. UVC-LED irradiation inactivated the test bacteria in a dose-dependent manner. After UVC-LED treatment at 4,000 mJ/cm2, the populations of Salmonella Typhimurium, E. coli O157:H7, and L. monocytogenes on chicken breasts were decreased by 1.90, 2.25, and 2.18 log CFU/cm2, respectively. No significant changes (P > 0.05) were found in color, pH, texture, and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances of chicken breasts following UVC-LED irradiation at doses ≤4,000 mJ/cm2. These results indicate that UVC-LED radiation is a promising technology for reducing the level of microorganisms while maintaining the physicochemical characteristics of poultry meat.

RESUMO

Liver cancer prevention has always been a key issue in the follow-up diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis. Insidious onset, high morbidity, monotherapy, short survival time, and high mortality are the outstanding problems encountered in the diagnosis and treatment of advanced liver cancer. In recent years, with the clinical application of targeted drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors, phased progress has been made in the diagnosis and treatment of advanced liver cancer, especially the accessibility of drug prices under the new medical insurance has provided more and more patients the opportunity to achieve a longer survival time. In this paper, the hot issues in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with advanced liver cancer in the immunotherapy era are discussed.
