Objective: To study the anatomical relationship among uterosacral ligament and ureter or rectum by using MRI three-dimensional reconstruction model in pelvic organ prolapse (POP) patients. Methods: According to the research standard, 67 POP patients were enrolled, who accepted pelvic MRI before surgery in Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University during May 2015 to March 2020. Three-dimensional model of uterosacral ligament was reconstructed. The intersection point of the fitting curve of uterosacral ligament and ischial spine level marked point P0, every 1 cm increasing from P0 towards the sacrum marked points P1, P2, and P3. Distances were measured between rectum or ureter to uterosacral ligament respectively at the P0-P3 horizontal levels. Results: (1) The distances between the left ureter and the left uterosacral ligament were (15.45±7.46) to (19.31±11.38) mm, and the distances between the right ureter and the right uterosacral ligament were (13.77±8.16) to (14.78±9.18) mm. At the P1 horizontal level ureters were the closest to uterosacral ligaments, and the right ureter was the closest to right uterosacral ligament [(13.45±9.34) mm] at P2 horizontal level in severe POP group. The farthest distance presented at the P3 horizontal level between bilateral ureters and uterosacral ligaments. (2) At the P0 horizontal level, the rectum was the closest to the bilateral uterosacral ligaments [left: (20.62±9.99) mm, right: (16.82±9.63) mm; P=0.026], and the rectum was closer to the right uterosacral ligament. There were no significant differences in the distance between rectum and bilateral uterosacral ligaments in mild POP group (P>0.05), and the results of severe POP group also showed the rectum was closer to the right uterosacral ligament [(15.64±10.31) mm at P0 horizontal level]. Conclusions: Right ureter and rectum are closer to the right uterosacral ligament. Gynecologists should pay more attention to avoid damaging the right ureter and rectum during the operation of the right uterosacral ligament in POP patients.

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and related factors of acute tubular necrosis (ATN) in patients with minimal change disease (MCD). Methods: Patients from Chinese PLA General Hospital who were pathologically diagnosed with MCD and had clinical manifestations of nephrotic syndrome from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2019 were included. The clinical and pathological data of patients were retrospectively analyzed. Meanwhile, the incidence and clinical characteristics of ATN in different age groups were compared. The risk factors for ATN were assessed using binary logistic regression. Results: A total of 525 patients were included, with a gender ratio of 1.56∶1 (male: female), aged 33 (21, 48) years old. ATN occurred in 49 (9.3%) of 525 patients, of which 34 were male and 15 were female. The incidence of ATN increased with age in MCD patients of different age groups (χ(2)=31.442, P<0.001). The incidence of ATN in groups of age≤20 years, 21-40 years, 41-60 years, and >60 years was 2.4% (3/123), 5.2% (10/192), 13.2% (20/152) and 27.6% (16/58), respectively. Elevations of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and serum IgE occurred in 92 patients (17.5%), 53 patients (10.1%), 99 patients (18.9%), and 303 patients (57.7%), respectively. There were significant differences in age, ALT, serum creatinine, serum urea nitrogen, history of diabetes and history of hypertension between non-ATN group and ATN group (all P<0.05). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that>40 years old (OR=6.283, 95% CI: 2.695-14.649, P<0.001) and serum albumin (OR=0.924, 95% CI: 0.857-0.997, P=0.040) was independently associated with ATN in MCD patients. Conclusion: Age>40 years is an independent risk factor and serum albumin is a protective factor for ATN in MCD patients.

RESUMO

Dantrolene, an FDA approved drug to treat malignant hyperthermia and muscle spasm, has been demonstrated to inhibit severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mediated toxicity of host cells. Ryanodine receptor overactivation and associated disruption of intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis play important roles in SARS-CoV-2 infection and replication of host cells. Dantrolene, as an inhibitor of RyRs, is expected to ameliorate these detrimental effects of SARS-CoV-2 in host cells. Additionally, dantrolene has also been shown to inhibit multiple cell or organ damage induced by hypoxia/ischemia, mitochondria damage, oxidative stresses, inflammation, impairment of autophagy and apoptosis, etc., which are often the causes of severity and mortality of COVID-19 patients. We have repurposed that dantrolene has a high potential at treating COVID-19 patients and reducing its morbidity and mortality.

The objectives of this study were to assess the reporting quality and methodological quality of split-mouth trials (SMTs) published during the past 2 decades and to determine whether there has been an improvement in their quality over time. We searched the MEDLINE database via PubMed to identify SMTs published in 1998, 2008, and 2018. For each included SMT, we used the CONsolidated Standards Of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) 2010 guideline, CONSORT for within-person trial (WPT) extension, and a new 3-item checklist to assess its trial reporting quality (TRQ), WPT-specific reporting quality (WRQ), and SMT-specific methodological quality (SMQ), respectively. Multivariable generalized linear models were performed to analyze the quality of SMTs over time, adjusting for potential confounding factors. A total of 119 SMTs were included. The mean overall score for the TRQ (score range, 0 to 32), WRQ (0 to 15), and SMQ (0 to 3) was 15.77 (SD 4.51), 6.06 (2.06), and 1.12 (0.70), respectively. The primary outcome was clearly defined in only 28 SMTs (23.5%), and only 27 (22.7%) presented a replicable sample size calculation. Only 45 SMTs (37.8%) provided the rationale for using a split-mouth design. The correlation between body sites was reported in only 5 studies (4.2%) for sample size calculation and 4 studies (3.4%) for statistical results. Only 2 studies (1.7%) performed an appropriate sample size calculation, and 46 (38.7%) chose appropriate statistical methods, both accounting for the correlation among treatment groups and the clustering/multiplicity of measurements within an individual. Results of regression analyses suggested that the TRQ of SMTs improved significantly with time (P < 0.001), while there was no evidence of improvement in WRQ or SMQ. Both the reporting quality and methodological quality of SMTs still have much room for improvement. Concerted efforts are needed to improve the execution and reporting of SMTs.

Recently, Einstein-Podolski-Rosen (EPR) steering has important application in quantum information processing, and it has been received considerable attention because of its uniqueness. The properties of quantum steering among three output fields generated by cascaded nonlinear processes of quasi-phase-matching third-harmonic generation in an optical cavity are investigated. Based on the criteria for multipartite EPR steering which proposed by He and Reid [PRL, 111, 250403 (2013)], the genuine tripartite EPR steering among pump, second-harmonic, and third-harmonic is demonstrated. The parameters which affect the quantum property are also discussed.

The water buffalo is an important dual-purpose livestock that is widespread throughout central and southern China. However, there has been no characterization of the population genetics of Chinese buffalo. Using an Axiom buffalo genotyping array (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Wilmington, DE), we analyzed the genetic diversity, linkage disequilibrium pattern, and signature of selection in 176 Chinese buffaloes from 13 breeds. A total of 35,547 SNP passed quality control and were used for further analyses. Population genetic analysis revealed a clear separation between swamp and river types. Ten Chinese indigenous breeds were clustered into the swamp group, the Murrah and Nili-Ravi breeds were clustered into the river group, and the crossbred breed was closer to the river group. Genetic diversity analysis showed that the swamp group had a lower average expected heterozygosity. Linkage disequilibrium decay distance was much shorter in the swamp group compared with the river group, with an average square of correlation coefficient value of 0.2 of approximately 50 kb. Analysis of runs of homozygosity indicated extensive remote and recent inbreeding within swamp and river groups, respectively. Moreover, one genomic region under selection was detected between the river and swamp groups. Our findings contribute to our understanding of the characterization of population genetics in Chinese buffaloes, which in turn may be used in buffalo breeding programs.

PURPOSE: The lingula and antilingula are crucial surgical landmarks for mandibular setback surgery. The purpose of study was to investigate the correlation of presence probability between lingual and antilingula. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 180 cone-beam computed tomography sides were collected from 90 patients. The probability of absence of the lingula and antilingula was recorded with respect to the gender, mandible (unilateral and bilateral), and skeletal patterns (Class I, II, III); in addition, the correlations between these variables were analysed. RESULTS: Of the 180 sides, 9 sides showed the absence of the lingula (5%) and 34 sides showed the absence of the antilingula (18.9%). Pearson's test revealed that the presence of the lingula and antilingula differed nonsignificantly with respect to gender and skeletal patterns, respectively. The bilateral presence of the lingula was observed in 16 sides (91.1%), and that of the antilingula was observed in 122 sides (67.8%). Pearson's test verified a significant correlation between the presence of the left and right lingula (P<0.05). By contrast, gender and skeletal patterns were nonsignificantly correlated with the presence of the lingula and antilingula. The presence of the lingula was also nonsignificantly correlated with that of the antilingula. CONCLUSION: Gender and skeletal patterns were nonsignificantly correlated with the presence of the lingula and antilingula, respectively. The presence of the lingula was also nonsignificantly correlated with that of the antilingula. Consequently, lingula and antilingula cannot serve as the absolute standards for mandibular setback surgery.

The damage evolution of nacre under compressive loading has not been well understood, despite numerous investigations on its compressive behavior. In the present work, quasi-in-situ loading-unloading-reloading stepwise compressive tests were performed on nacre in Pinctada maxima shell, which exhibits a distinctive gradient feature with the thickness of platelets decreasing from the external to internal parts. In the loading direction parallel to the platelets, multiple microcracks and kink bands can absorb much deformation energy, leading to a graceful failure. Kinking only occurs at the final stage of fracture process, and it thus has no obvious influence on the strength of nacre, but contributes to a much larger strain. In the loading direction perpendicular to the platelets, nacre exhibits concurrently much higher compressive strength and fracture strain, as the damage can be effectively restricted. This is attributed to the presence of gradient structure, which disperses the stress concentration in front of the crack tip, and arouses the toughening mechanisms including damage localization and crack deflection. The findings obtained in this study are expected to provide fundamental insights into the design of bio-inspired advanced engineering materials.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this experimental study was to investigate, under the premise of discectomy, whether damage to either the fibrous layer of the condyle or that of the glenoid fossa, could induce temporomanibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis. And if not, which of the fibrous layer was more important in the genesis of TMJ ankylosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bilateral TMJ surgery was performed in 6 growing Xiao-wei Han sheep. Disk and condylar fibrous layer removal (DCFLR) was performed on the left TMJ, and disk and glenoid fibrous layer removal (DGFLR) was performed on the right TMJ. All animals were sacrificed at 3 months postoperatively. The TMJ complexes were examined by histological evaluation. RESULTS: Partial fibrous ankylosis was achieved on the DCFLR side in the 6 sheep at 3 months after surgery. On the DGFLR side, pathologic characteristics of TMJ osteoarthritis could be seen; however, no evidence of ankylosis was observed. The scores of TMJ ankylosis for the DGFLR side were significantly lower than those for the DCFLR side (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that removal of the condylar fibrous layer, not the glenoid fibrous layer, combined with discectomy could lead to traumatic TMJ ankylosis.

Several bioactive molecules isolated from the saliva of blood-sucking arthropods, such as mosquitoes, have been shown to exhibit potential anticoagulant function. We have previously identified a 30kDa allergen named Aegyptin-like protein (alALP), which is highly homologous to Aegyptin, from the salivary glands of female Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito). In this study, we identified the conserved functional domain of alALP by using bioinformatic tools, and expressed the His-tagged alALP recombinant protein in sf9 insect cells by generation and transfection of a baculoviral expression plasmid carrying the fulllength cDNA of alALP. We purified this recombinant protein and examined its function on the inhibition of blood coagulation. The results showed that the purified His-alALP prolonged the Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT), Prothrombin Time (PT) and Thrombin Time (TT) in vitro as well as the Bleeding Time (BT) in vivo, which suggest that alALP could be a novel anticoagulant.

Objective: To analyze the change trend of HIV genetic subtypes and compare the first CD(4)(+)T cell counts of newly diagnosed HIV infected patients in Liuzhou from 1998 to 2012, and provide a reference for AIDS prevention and control. Methods: Newly diagnosed HIV-infected patients from 1998 to 2012 in Liuzhou were selected through national HIV/ADIS comprehensive response information management system. Their plasma samples were used for RNA gene extraction, amplification, sequencing and genotyping. Coharan-Armitage trend test was used to analyze the ratio trend of genetic subtypes and phylogenetic clusters of HIV and Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test was used to compare the first CD(4)(+)T cell counts (CD(4)) of the different subtype HIV infected patients. Results: A total of 1 877 newly diagnosed HIV infected patients were included in the study. From 1998 to 2012, the proportions of CRF01_AE and CRF01_AE (Cluster 1) increased from 78.4% (76/97) to 91.5% (1 441/1 574), from 63.9% (62/97) to 74.0% (1 164/1 574), and the proportion of CRF07_BC decreased from 17.5% (17/97) to 4.6% (72/1 574), respectively (Z=4.632, P<0.001; Z=2.455, P=0.014; Z=-5.943, P<0.001). The median and interquartile range of the first CD(4) of the patients infected with subtype CRF01_AE (Cluster 1), CRF01_AE (Cluster 2), CRF07_BC and CRF08_BC were 230 (83-375), 215 (48-351), 365 (254-503) and 334 (206-479) cell/µl, respectively. The first CD(4) levels of the patients infected with subtype CRF01_AE (Cluster 1) or CRF01_AE (Cluster 2) were significantly lower than those of CRF07_BC (Z=-4.795, P<0.001; Z=-4.238, P<0.001). Conclusion: The genetic subtypes of HIV were mainly CRF01_AE in newly diagnosed HIV-infected patients and this subtype proportion was in increase and the first CD(4) levels of the patients were low in Liuzhou during 1998 to 2012.

Objective: To explore HIV-1 drug resistance and influencing factors among people living with HIV/AIDS before antiretroviral therapy in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture (Liangshan). Methods: Between January 1 and June 30, in both 2017 and 2018, a cross-sectional survey was conducted in Liangshan HIV-1 pol sequences were gathered and analyzed according to WHO Guidelines on HIV drug resistance surveillance of 2014. Both HyPhy 2.2.4 and Cytoscape 3.6.1 software were used to analyze the drug resistant strains of HIV-1 transmission network. Results: A total of 464 people living with HIV/AIDS was recruited. The proportion of HIV-1 CRF07_BC subtype was 88.6% (411/464), with HIV-1 drug resistance rate was 9.9% (46/464). The HIV-1 drug resistance rates of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI), nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors(NRTI) and protease inhibitors (PI) were 6.7% (31/464), 1.9% (9/464) and 0.4% (2/464) respectively. New recombinant strains of HIV-1 URF_01BC subtype was independently clustered according to the drug resistant mutation sites. Results from the multivariate logistic analysis showed that injected drug users group had higher risk on HIV-1 drug resistance (aOR=3.03, 95%CI:1.40-6.54) than heterosexual group among people living with HIV/AIDS. Conclusions: HIV-1 drug resistance rate had already been in a high level before antiretroviral therapy was in place. The newly identified recombinant strains of HIV-1 URF_01BC subtype were independently clustered according to the drug resistant mutation sites. It was necessary to strengthen the prevention of the HIV-1 drug resistant strains transmission.

Exploring an efficient and photostable heterostructured photocatalyst is a pivotal scientific topic for worldwide energy and environmental concerns. Herein, we reported that Pt decorated g-C3N4/Bi2MoO6 heterostructured composites with enhanced photocatalytic performance under visible light were simply synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method for methylene blue (MB) dye degradation. Results revealed that the synthetic Pt decorated g-C3N4/Bi2MoO6 composites with Bi2MoO6 contents of 20 wt.% (Pt@CN/20%BMO) presented the highest photocatalytic activity, exhibiting 7 and 18 times higher reactivity than the pure g-C3N4 and Bi2MoO6, respectively. Structural analyses showed that Bi2MoO6 microplates were anchored on the wrinkled flower-like g-C3N4 matrix with Pt decoration, leading to a large expansion of specific surface area from 10.79 m2/g for pure Bi2MoO6 to 46.09 m2/g for Pt@CN/20%BMO. In addition, the Pt@CN/20%BMO composites exhibited an improved absorption ability in the visible light region, presenting a promoted photocatalytic MB degradation. Quenching experiments were also conducted to provide solid evidences for the production of hydroxyl radicals (•OH), electrons (e-), holes (h+) and superoxide radicals (•O2-) during dye degradation. The findings in this critical work provide insights into the synthesis of heterostructured photocatalysts with the optimization of band gaps, light response and photocatalytic performance in wastewater remediation.

Objectives: The aim was to study the relationship between purinergic P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) functional genetic polymorphisms and lipid profiles in Chinese postmenopausal osteoporosis (OP) patients and controls. Methods: A total of 517 OP patients and 531 controls were randomly recruited by cluster sampling; blood was drawn to analyze P2X7R genetic polymorphisms and serum lipid levels. Bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar spine and hip was measured via dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results: P2X7R rs2230911 was found to be associated with serum total cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein, and BMD at the lumbar spine and hip in OP patients (p < 0.05). P2X7R rs3751143 was shown to be associated with serum TG and hip BMD in OP patients (p < 0.05). Furthermore, their estimated haplotype (rs1718119G-rs2230911C-rs3751143A) was indicated to be associated with TG, HDL, and BMD at the lumbar spine and hip in OP patients. However, no difference in the level of lipid profiles or BMD was found to be related to P2X7R genotype or haplotype in the control group (p>0.05). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that P2X7R functional genetic polymorphisms and their estimated haplotypes are associated with serum lipid concentrations and BMD among Chinese postmenopausal women with OP.
