AgIO3/Ag2O/Ag nanocomposites with enhanced photocatalytic activities were synthesized by a onestep coprecipitation method at room temperature. The optimum hybrid of AgIO3/Ag2O = 1.25:1 with Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) loading (denoted as AA125) exhibited superior photocatalytic activity, demonstrating 97.19% tetracycline (TC) degradation within 60 min under simulated solar irradiation. This was approximately 10.44 and 2.63 times higher than that of pure Ag2O and AgIO3, respectively. The advanced photocatalytic activity can be ascribed to the synergetic effects of the heterostructured AgIO3/Ag2O/Ag and the strong surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag NPs generated on the surface, which improved the separation and transfer efficiency of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. The results from radical scavenger experiments indicated that the degradation of TC was driven mainly by the participation of superoxide radical (·O-2).

3D hierarchical structure BiOX(X ═ Cl, Br)-(CMC) assembled from 2D nanosheets with {010} facets exposed have been successfully synthesized by the assistance of biomass solvent CMC-Na. All the nitrogen adsorption isotherms and photoelectrochemical results reflected that BiOX(X Cl, Br)-(CMC) exhibit higher specific surface area, superior optical absorption efficiency and separation efficiency of photoinduced electron-hole than BiOX(X═Cl, Br) 2D nanosheets exposed with {001} facets. Besides, 96.5% and 60.3% of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) were photodegradated in 60 minutes under the visible light irradiation catalyzed by BiOBr-(CMC) and BiOCl-(CMC), which is much better than BiOBr and BiOCl. The formation and enhanced photocatalytic activity of 3D hierarchical structure BiOX-(CMC) may be ascribe to the bi-functional groups of CMC, which can affect the crystallization process and morphology of BiOX. According to the merit of environmental friendly and improved photocatalytic activity of the 3D hierarchitecture, we believe that this work broadens the possibility of designing efficient BiOX photocatalyst with {010} facets exposed.

Three new manganese(II), lead(II) and cadmium(II) coordination complexes have been prepared by reaction of N-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)cinnamamide (HNTCA) with divalent metal salts (MnCl2, PbCl2 and CdCl2) in a mixed-solvent system, affording mononuclear to trinuclear structures namely, bis(methanol-κO)bis[5-(3-phenylprop-2-enamido)-1H-1,2,3,4-tetrazol-1-ido-κ2N1,O]manganese(II), [Mn(C10H8N5O)2(CH3OH)2], (1), bis[µ-5-(3-phenylprop-2-enamido)-1H-1,2,3,4-tetrazol-1-ido]-κ3N1,O:N2;κ3N2:N1,O-bis{aqua[5-(3-phenylprop-2-enamido)-1H-1,2,3,4-tetrazol-1-ido-κ2N1,O]lead(II)}, [Pb2(C10H8N5O)4(H2O)2], (2), and hexakis[µ2-5-(3-phenylprop-2-enamido)-1H-1,2,3,4-tetrazol-1-ido-κ3N1,O:N2]tricadmium(II), [Cd3(C10H8N5O)6], (3). The structures of these three compounds reveal that the nature of the metal ions and the side groups of the organic building blocks have a significant effect on the structures of the coordination compounds formed. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds link the molecules into two-dimensional [complex (1)] and three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded networks. Complexes (2) and (3) show significant fluorescence, while complex (1) displays no fluorescence.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on periodontitis in Beagle dogs. METHODS: The animal model of chronic periodontitis was established with elastic ligature-induced alveolar bone defect in Beagle dogs. LIPUS with different intensity (50 mW/cm2, 100 mW/cm2) pulse wave and 50 mW/cm2 continuous wave, 1.5 MHz of frequency, 200 micros of pulse width modulated signal, and 1 kHz of repetition rate were applied to the dogs for 8 weeks (once a day and 20 minutes every time). The periodontal clinical examinations and histological biopsy were performed. RESULTS: With increased exposure to LIPUS, gum tissue swelling of the dogs was reduced. The plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), pocket depth (PD) of the treatment groups were lower than the control groups (P < 0.05). No significant gingival recession, attachment loss or furcation was found. The histological examination revealed that there was no obvious gingival hyperplasia in epithelial tissues, but there were significant activities in relation to collagen formation, decrease of bone resorption, and generation of active osteoblasts. CONCLUSION: LIPUS may help repair periodontal tissues and should be considered in guided tissue regeneration (GTR).
