RESUMO

The interplay between virus and host has been one of the hot spot in virology, and it is also the important aspect of revealing the mechanism of virus infection. Increasing studies revealed that several key molecules took part in the process of virus-host interaction. White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) has been proved to affect several physiological processes of the host cells, especially apoptosis. While the relationship between them still remains unclear. In this study, a IFI27 gene (LvIFI27) of Litopenaeus vannamei was cloned. It is indicated that LvIFI27 was induced upon endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress and unfolded protein response activator Thapsigargin. Unlike human IFI27 locating to mitochondria, LvIFI27 lied to ER, and was involved in cell apoptosis process. Moreover, results of cumulative mortality analysis showed that LvIFI27 might contributed to WSSV proliferation by promoting apoptosis during the process of viral infection. Findings in this study enriched our understanding of the relationship between WSSV infection and ER-stress mediated apoptosis.

This study used litchi (Heiye) wine and distilled spirit as raw experimental materials to analyze the volatile aroma compounds. Qualitative and quantitative determination of aromatic components was studied using stir bar sportive extraction (SBSE) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Results indicated that a total of 128 different types of aroma compounds were observed, which belonged to six chemical groups, including 39 esters, 16 alcohols, 16 acids, 22 terpenes, 17 aldehydes and ketones, and 18 other compounds. In particular, esters were the highest among all six categories and represented approximately 52% of the total flavor component content in litchi distilled spirit. The odor activity values (OAVs) revealed 22 types of aroma compounds with OAVs >1 in this test. It is possible that the produced litchi distilled spirit had a stronger varietal character due to the increased concentrations and OAVs of ß-damascenone, linalool, ethyl butyrate, ethyl isovalerate, ethyl caproate, trans-rose oxide, and cis-rose oxide. Taking the OAVs into account, we evaluated the characteristic aromas for litchi wine and litchi distilled spirit.

Background: Aortic dissection (AD) represents a significant mortality; however, there is rare epidemiologic information about the demography of AD in Chinese, especially its incidence rate. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was established using the Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance claims data covering 346.7 million residents from 23 provinces in China, 2015-2016. AD cases were then linked to database of the Urban Employee Basic Endowment Insurance for death information. Incidence rate was age- and sex-standardized to the 2010 China census population. The associations between AD and related factors were evaluated with Poisson regression models. Moreover, mortality and sex- and age-adjusted survival rate was estimated by Cox models. Findings: 6084 adult AD cases were included in incidence analysis. Totally 4692(77.1%) were men and 5641(92.7%) were Han Chinese. The overall age- and sex-adjusted incidence rate of AD was 2.78(95%CI:2.59-2.98) per 100,000 person-years. In terms of geographic disparities, the crude incidence rate was significantly higher in Northwest China than South China (4.96[95%CI:4.17-5.75] vs. 2.04[95%CI:0.38-3.71] per 100,000 person-years; risk ratio: 2.67[95%CI: 2.34-3.04]). Moreover, survival analysis of 4518 AD patients with 683 recorded deaths during follow-up (median 2.2 years) showed that overall 3-year survival was 83.7%(95%CI:82.4-84.8). Interpretation: This contemporary population-based cohort study provides a first comprehensive assessment of incidence of AD in urban Chinese adults. The distinct signatures of different incidence with respect to geographic variations may have important implications for clinical management of AD. BACKGROUND: N-acetyltransferase 13 (NAT13) is a probable catalytic component of the ARD1A-NARG1 complex possessing alpha (N-terminal) acetyltransferase activity. RESULTS: In this study, a full-length complementary DNA (cDNA) encoding Schistosoma japonicum NAT13 (SjNAT13) was isolated from schistosome cDNAs. The 621 bp open reading frame of SjNAT13 encodes a polypeptide of 206 amino acids. Real-time PCR analysis revealed SjNAT13 expression in all tested developmental stages. Transcript levels were highest in cercariae and 21-day-old worms, and higher in male adult worms than female adult worms. The rSjNAT13 protein induced high levels of anti-rSjNAT13 IgG antibodies. In two independent immunoprotection trials, rSjNAT13 induced 24.23% and 24.47% reductions in the numbers of eggs in liver. RNA interference (RNAi) results showed that small interfering RNA (siRNA) Sj-514 significantly reduced SjNAT13 transcript levels in worms and decreased egg production in vitro. CONCLUSIONS: Thus, rSjNAT13 might play an important role in the development and reproduction of schistosomes.

Seeking out fish meal (FM) alternatives is an important requirement for aquaculture all over the world. And most practitioners believe that the plant protein is most potential for FM surrenal. While high plant protein feed caused some common problems in aquatic livestock: the absorption rate and growth rate are decreased, and even caused digestive tract inflammation. In present study, the inflence of high plant protien feed in Trachinotus ovatus was investigated using illumina HiSeqTM2000 based RNA-Seq. By comparing the two groups of cDNA libraries developed from high plant protien based diet or FM based diet fed T. ovatus livers, 836 unigenes were significantly upregulated, and 345 were significantly down regulated. KEGG analysis indicated that the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are mainly metabolic-related genes. It was found that more than 28 DGEs beloned to the protein metabolism and absorption, lipid biosynthesis or other metabolic pathways. It indicated that high plant protein based diet had broad effects on metabolism on T. ovatus. There were also more DEGs belong to immune-related signaling pathways, include genes were involved in pathpathogen resistance and genes related to immunity system. These DEGs provided useful clues to explore the mechanisms that high plant protein based diet caused side effects on T. ovatus. These results improved our current understanding of the response of high plant protein based diet in T. ovatus, and outstanding the reasons of the side effect caused by high protein based diet.

BACKGROUND: Angiolipoma has been reported in many cases, and it often occurs in the skin of the trunk and limbs. However, angiolipoma in the scrotum is a rare disease with unknown etiology. This condition is difficult to diagnosis with other lumps in the scrotum. CASE SUMMARY: A 32-year-old man presented to the urinary department with a history of an enlarged left scrotum with increasing discomfort for about 5 years. Physical examination revealed that there were a palpable mass measuring about 7.0 cm × 6.5 cm in the left scrotum, with smooth surfaces but without tenderness or adhesion to the skin. Ultrasound showed that there was a hyperechoic mass under the skin of the top scrotum, about 72 mm × 64 mm × 21 mm in size, with clear borders, uneven internal echo, and abundant blood flow signals. Serum human chorionic gonadotropin and alpha-fetoprotein were in normal level. Subcutaneous mass resection at the bottom of the left scrotum was performed under local anesthesia with 1% lidocaine. Postoperative pathological examination resulted in a diagnosis of subcutaneous angiolipoma of the scrotum. No evidence of recurrence was found at 6 mo after surgery and there were no complaints of discomfort. CONCLUSION: Angiolipoma is an extremely rare type of benign tumor extremely rarely found in the scrotum, but needs to be considered when evaluating scrotal masses especially when the mass is solid. According to the characteristics of angiolipoma, surgical resection is the best treatment strategy and it is not prone to recurrence after resection.

BACKGROUND: It is becoming more and more important to judge whether patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) have phlegm and blood stasis syndromes in the process of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis and treatment of CHD. The syndrome differentiation strategy of phlegm and blood stasis syndromes of CHD is still not standardized, and it is particularly necessary to make syndrome differentiation simpler and more accurate. METHODS: Twenty-eight medical cases that met the criteria, comprising 10 ancient medical cases and 18 modern ones, were selected from the TCM literature, which were then analyzed by 57 experts via questionnaire. Statistical analysis of the data was mainly based on frequency analysis. RESULTS: (I) The average age of the 57 experts from 20 provinces was 48.9±8.5 years; 89.5% were associate professor or above, and 75.4% of them worked at a tertiary hospital. (II) Consistency of expert consultation over medical cases: for the ancient medical cases, the diagnostic consistency rate of phlegm syndrome was 27/34 (79.4%) and additional diagnosis rate of the blood stasis syndrome was 27/57 (47.4%); for the modern medical cases, the consistency rate compared with the original diagnosis of phlegm syndrome was 54/80 (67.5%) and that of blood stasis syndrome was 73/90 (81.1%). (III) The top five experts' diagnostic basics of phlegm syndrome were oppression in the chest, slippery pulse, greasy fur, coughing of phlegm, and chest pain; the top five diagnostic basics of blood stasis syndrome were chest pain, dark tongue, oppression in chest, red tongue, and ecchymosis on tongue. (IV) In the questionnaire consultation on CHD phlegm-blood stasis syndrome cases, the diagnostic basis of "symptom or (and) tongue manifestation" accounted for 12/27 (44.4%) of the diagnostic basics of phlegm syndrome and 28/38 (73.7%) of that of blood stasis syndrome basis. CONCLUSIONS: Modern Chinese medicine experts pay much attention to the diagnosis and treatment of CHD based on TCM pathology theories of phlegm and blood stasis. To collect and detect the patients' symptoms and tongue manifestation is an important strategy of the experts for CHD phlegm and blood stasis syndrome differentiation.

INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is generally considered to be one of the most successful orthopedic surgical procedures. However, no research has been conducted on the postoperative mental health of patients who underwent different approaches of THA. This paper seeks to compare the differences among three THA approaches: the normal lateral approach (NLA), the direct anterior approach (DAA) and the orthopädische chirurgie münchen (OCM) regarding their influence on patients' postoperative anxiety and depression. METHOD: A total of 95 THA patients were recruited for this study. All patients' preoperative information including results of Harris, SF-36 and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was carefully evaluated. Surgery-related data as well as five-day postoperative data were also collected. Three months after the surgery, a telephone follow-up was conducted to further evaluate patients' HADS and SF-36 results. RESULT: In the three-month postoperative evaluation of anxiety and depression, the NLA group scored significantly higher than both the DAA group and the OCM group, which was found relevant to the patient's incision length and five-day postoperative VAS results. A correlation between anxiety scores and the days of postoperative hospitalization was also noticed. Further analysis of patients' psychological state based on the SF-36 results revealed considerable differences in viability (VT) and social function (SF) between the NLA group and the OCM group. Other surgery-related data and postoperative data all demonstrated better results of the DAA group and the OCM group compared to the NLA group. CONCLUSION: Among the three different surgical approaches of THA, DAA and OCM compared with NLA are found to ease patients' postoperative anxiety and depression. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: III.

BACKGROUND: Schistosomiasis japonica is a serious zoonotic parasitic disease. Preliminary studies have shown that the expression of microRNA-181a (miR-181a) in the liver, lung and spleen tissues of susceptible host BALB/c mice and resistant host reed vole (Microtus fortis) 10 days post-infection (dpi) with Schistosoma japonicum was significantly different from pre-infection levels. This difference suggests the possibility that miR-181a expression may be related to the regulation of the hosts' early immune response against S. japonicum infection and thereby affect the development and survival of parasites in their final hosts. METHODS: BALB/c mice, M. fortis, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-deficient mice and wild-type mice (C57BL/6) were infected with S. japonicum, and differences in miR-181a expression between BALB/c mice and M. fortis over different time points post-infection (0, 3, 7, 10 and 14 dpi) were compared. MiR-181a mimic, miR-181a inhibitor and irrelevant miRNA, as well as lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a TLR4 receptor ligand, were used to transfect mouse RAW264.7 macrophages. The expression levels of the TLR4 pathway-related cytokines interleukin (IL)-1ß, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and IL-6 were detected by quantitative PCR analysis. RESULTS: The expression of miR-181a was significantly upregulated in the serum and liver of mice infected with S. japonicum and downregulated in the serum and liver of M. fortis. T-helper cell (Th1)-type cytokines, such as TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1ß, and Th2-type cytokines, such as IL-10 and IL-4, were differentially expressed in M. fortis and BALB/c mice in the early stage of infection. The expression level of miR-181a in the serum was threefold higher in TLR4-deficient mice than in wild-type mice 10 dpi with S. japonicum. The expression of IL-1ß, TNF-α and IL-6 decreased in RAW264.7 cells transfected with miR-181a mimic and increased in cells transfected with miR-181a inhibitor. miR-181a expression was downregulated and the expressions of TLR4 and three TLR4 pathway-related cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α) were upregulated in RAW264.7 macrophages stimulated with the TLR4 receptor ligand LPS. CONCLUSION: These results suggest the possibility of mutual regulation between miR-181a and the TLR4 signaling pathway during S. japonicum infection. miR-181a may regulate the expression of pro-inflammatory factors through the TLR4 receptor pathway and participate in the immunomodulatory effect of anti-S. japonicum infection.

Electrochemical hydrogenation of N2 under ambient conditions is attractive for sustainable and distributable NH3 production but is limited by the lack of selective electrocatalysts. Herein, we describe active site motifs based on the Chevrel phase chalcogenide Fe2Mo6S8 that exhibit intrinsic activities for converting N2 to NH3 in aqueous electrolytes. Despite having a very low specific surface area of ∼2 m2/g, this catalyst exhibited a Faradaic efficiency of 12.5% and an average rate of 70 µg h-1 mgcat-1 for NH3 production at -0.20 V vs RHE. Such activities were attributed to the unique composition and structure of Fe2Mo6S8 that provide synergistic multisites for activating and associating key reaction intermediates. Specifically, Fe/Mo sites assist adsorption and activation of N2, whereas S sites stabilize hydrogen intermediate Had* for N2 hydrogenation. Fe in Fe2Mo6S8 enhances binding of S with Had* and thus inhibits the competing hydrogen evolution reaction. The spatial geometry of Fe, Mo, and S sites in Fe2Mo6S8 promotes conversion of N2-Had* association intermediates, reaching a turnover frequency of ∼0.23 s-1 for NH3 production.

Compressive Sensing (CS) has proved to be an effective theory in the field of image acquisition. However, in order to distinguish the difference between the measurement matrices, the CS imaging system needs to have a higher signal sampling accuracy. At the same time, affected by the noise of the light path and the circuit, the measurements finally obtained are noisy, which directly affects the imaging quality. We propose a dual-optical imaging system that uses the bidirectional reflection characteristics of digital micromirror devices (DMD) to simultaneously acquire CS measurements and images under the same viewing angle. Since deep neural networks have powerful modeling capabilities, we trained the filter network and the reconstruction network separately. The filter network is used to filter the noise in the measurements, and the reconstruction network is used to reconstruct the CS image. Experiments have proved that the method we proposed can filter the noise in the sampling process of the CS system, and can significantly improve the quality of image reconstruction under a variety of algorithms.

Nanolaminated structure with an average boundary spacing of 67 nm has been fabricated in copper by high-rate shear deformation at ambient temperature. The nanolaminated structure with an increased fraction of low angle grain boundaries exhibits a high microhardness of 2.1 GPa. The structure coarsening temperature is 180 K higher than that of its equiaxial nanograined counterpart. Formation of nanolaminated structure provides an alternative way to relax grain boundaries and to stabilize nanostructured metals with medium to low stacking faults energies besides activation of partial dislocations.

Conventional machine learning algorithms suffer the problem that the model trained on existing data fails to generalize well to the data sampled from other distributions. To tackle this issue, unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) transfers the knowledge learned from a well-labeled source domain to a different but related target domain where labeled data is unavailable. In this paper, we consider a more practical yet challenging UDA setting where either the source domain data or the target domain data are unknown. Technically, we investigate UDA from a novel view --- adversarial attack --- and tackle the divergence-agnostic adaptive learning problem in a unified framework. Specifically, we first report the motivation of our approach by investigating the inherent relationship between UDA and adversarial attacks. Then we elaborately design adversarial examples to attack the training model and harness these adversarial examples. We argue that the generalization ability of the model would be significantly improved if it can defend against our attack, so as to improve the performance on the target domain. Theoretically, we analyze the generalization bound for our method based on domain adaptation theories. Extensive experimental results verify that our method is able to achieve a favorable performance compared with previous ones.

BACKGROUND: Limited access to genetic information has greatly hindered our understanding of the molecular evolution, phylogeny, and differentiation time of subg. Amygdalus. This study reported complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequences of subg. Amygdalus, which further enriched the available valuable resources of complete cp genomes of higher plants and deepened our understanding of the divergence time and phylogenetic relationships of subg. Amygdalus. RESULTS: The results showed that subg. Amygdalus species exhibited a tetrad structure with sizes ranging from 157,736 bp (P. kansuensis) to 158,971 bp (P. davidiana), a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRa/IRb) that ranged from 26,137-26,467 bp, a large single-copy region that ranged from 85,757-86,608 bp, and a small single-copy region that ranged from 19,020-19,133 bp. The average GC content of the complete cp genomes in the 12 species was 36.80%. We found that the structure of the subg. Amygdalus complete cp genomes was highly conserved, and the 12 subg. Amygdalus species had an rps19 pseudogene. There was not rearrangement of the complete cp genome in the 12 subg. Amygdalus species. All 12 subg. Amygdalus species clustered into one clade based on both Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood. The divergence time analyses based on the complete cp genome sequences showed that subg. Amygdalus species diverged approximately 15.65 Mya. CONCLUSION: Our results provide data on the genomic structure of subg. Amygdalus and elucidates their phylogenetic relationships and divergence time.

Fenton reaction, a typical inorganic reaction, is broadly utilized in the field of wastewater treatment. Recently In case of its ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, it has been frequently reported in cancer treatment. Using the unique tumor microenvironment in cancer cells, many iron-based nanoparticles have been developed to release iron ions in cancer cells to induce Fenton reaction. In this mini review, we outline several different types of iron-based nanoparticles and several main means to enhance Fenton reaction in cancer cells. Finally, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of iron-based nanoparticles for cancer therapy, prospected the future development of iron-based nanoparticles. It is believed that iron-based nanoparticles can make certain contribution to the cause of human cancer in the future.

The sound-induced flash illusion (SiFI) is a robust auditory-dominated multisensory integration phenomenon that is used as a reliable indicator to assess multisensory integration. Previous studies have indicated that the SiFI effect is correlated with perceptual sensitivity. However, to date, there is no consensus regarding how it corresponds to sensitivity with long-term training. The present study adopted the classic SiFI paradigm with feedback training to investigate the effect of a week of long-term training on the SiFI effect. Both the training group and control group completed a pretest and a posttest before and after the perceptual training; however, only the training group was required to complete 7-day behavioral training. The results showed that (1) long-term training could reduce the response of fission and fusion illusions by improving perceptual sensitivity and that (2) there was a "plateau effect" that emerged during the training stage, which tended to stabilize by the fifth day. These findings demonstrated that the SiFI effect could be modified with long-term training by ameliorating perceptual sensitivity, especially in terms of the fission illusion. Therefore, the present study supplements perceptual training in SiFI domains and provides evidence that the SiFI could be used as an assessment intervention to improve the efficiency of multisensory integration.

In the past decade, ecological surveys emphasized rats and dogs as the most significant animal reservoirs for Schistosoma japonicum (S.j) in the Philippines. However, recent studies demonstrated 51-91% prevalence of schistosomiasis among water buffalo using qPCR in the Sj endemic regions in the Philippines. In order to resolve the inconsistency of reported surveys regarding Sj endemicity among carabao, a domestic water buffalo that is the most important draught animal, we introduced 42 schistosome negative water buffalo to Macanip, Jaro municipality, Leyte, the Philippines, a subsistence rice-farming village that has been the focus of schistosomiasis japonica studies of our group for the past 20 years. We conducted perfusion to the remaining 34 buffalo that survived 10 months of nature exposure and Typhoon Haiyan. Thirty-three water buffalo were found to be positive with at least 1 pair of worms from the mesenteric vein. The infection rate is 97%, with the worm burden of 94 (95% confidence interval, 49-138 worms) worms. To our knowledge, this is the first report about S. japonicum worm burden in naturally infected water buffalo in the Philippines. The fact that with less than one-year of exposure, in this human schistosomiasis endemic area, only 1 out of 34 water buffalo was uninfected is striking. Urgent attention is needed for a cost-effective technique for monitoring Sj infection in animals and humans. Meanwhile, intervention implementation, including water buffalo treatment and vaccination, should be taken into consideration.

Facial landmark detection is a crucial preprocessing step in many applications that process facial images. Deep-learning-based methods have become mainstream and achieved outstanding performance in facial landmark detection. However, accurate models typically have a large number of parameters, which results in high computational complexity and execution time. A simple but effective facial landmark detection model that achieves a balance between accuracy and speed is crucial. To achieve this, a lightweight, efficient, and effective model is proposed called the efficient face alignment network (EfficientFAN) in this article. EfficientFAN adopts the encoder-decoder structure, with a simple backbone EfficientNet-B0 as the encoder and three upsampling layers and convolutional layers as the decoder. Moreover, deep dark knowledge is extracted through feature-aligned distillation and patch similarity distillation on the teacher network, which contains pixel distribution information in the feature space and multiscale structural information in the affinity space of feature maps. The accuracy of EfficientFAN is further improved after it absorbs dark knowledge. Extensive experimental results on public datasets, including 300 Faces in the Wild (300W), Wider Facial Landmarks in the Wild (WFLW), and Caltech Occluded Faces in the Wild (COFW), demonstrate the superiority of EfficientFAN over state-of-the-art methods.

Objective: Aortic dissection (AD) is characterized by an acute onset, rapid progress, and high mortality. Levels of soluble ST2 (sST2) on presentation are elevated in patients with acute AD, which can be used to discriminate AD patients from patients with chest pain. sST2 concentrations were found to be highly heritable in the general population. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of variations in ST2-related gene expression with sST2 concentrations and AD risk. Methods: This case-control study involving a total of 2,277 participants were conducted, including 435 AD patients and age- and sex-matched 435 controls in the discovery stage, and 464 patients and 943 controls in the validation stage. Eight ST2-related genes were selected by systematic review. Tag single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were screened out from the Chinese population of the 1,000 Genomes Database. Twenty-one ST2-related SNPs were genotyped, and plasma sST2 concentrations were measured. Results: In the discovery stage, rs13019803 located in IL1R1 was significantly associated with AD after Bonferroni correction (p = 0.0009) and was correlated with circulating sST2 levels in patients with type A AD(AAD) [log-sST2 per C allele increased by 0.180 (95%) CI: 0.002 - 0.357] but not in type B. Combining the two stages together, rs13019803C was associated with plasma sST2 level in AAD patients [log-sST2 increased by 0.141 (95% CI: 0.055-0.227) for per C allele]. Odds ratio of rs13019803 on the risk of AAD is 1.67 (95% CI: 1.33-2.09). Conclusions: The IL1R1 SNP rs13019803C is associated with higher sST2 levels and increased risk of AAD.

Cell survival is based on the stability of intracellular state. It was well known that biochemical reactions in cells require specific intracellular environments, such as pH and calcium concentration. While the mechanism of stabilizing the intracellular environment is complex and far from clear. In this study, a Sma and Mad related protein 5 gene (LvSmad5) of Litopenaeus vannamei was cloned. LvSmad5 was located to both cytoplasm and nucleus. And subcellular localization of LvSmad5 was responsed to the changing of cells internal and external environment. Besides, it was found that subcellular localization of LvSmad5 was also regulated by unfolded protein response. Moreover, it was proved that nucleic localization of LvSmad5 could significantly increase the white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) infection in shrimp, and knockdown expression of LvSmad5 decreased the cumulative mortality of WSSV infection shrimp. Further investigation revealed that cytoplasm LvSmad5 could interplay with shrimp hexokinase 1, and contribute to glycolysis. These results indicated that LvSmad5 played a role in L. vannamei environmental stress response, and was used by WSSV for its replication.
