PURPOSE: We aimed to improve B0 magnetic field homogeneity and minimize the interference between RF coils and local B0 shimming coils with few channel numbers. METHODS: To design and construct the prototype for B0 shimming of the rat brain, we first evaluated the interferences of single shimming loops on RF receiver loops. Then, B0 shimming of the whole rat brain was implemented using an optimization procedure. The positions and currents of the local shimming coils with channel numbers from 3 to 6 were optimized to improve shimming performance. Based on the simulation results, a 5-channel local shimming coil, combined with a 3-channel RF receiver coil, was constructed and evaluated by animal experiments. RESULTS: There was marginal SNR loss within 5% after integrating the local shimming coil into the RF receiver coil. With respect to the Siemens standard shims up to second order, the B0 inhomogeneity in one whole rat brain was reduced from 39.6 Hz to 24.7 Hz by using the local shimming coil. A large portion of the EPI distortions was recovered after using the 5-channel local shimming coil. The temporal SNR using the local shimming coil was higher than that using the Siemens standard shims up to second order, with an improvement of more than 24%. CONCLUSIONS: The local shimming coil can improve B0 magnetic field homogeneity despite minor effects on the RF coil and can benefit a variety of applications that are sensitive to B0 inhomogeneity. Nevertheless, EPI for rat brain is still very challenging.

Background: Endometriosis is now considered to be a systemic disease rather than a disease that primarily affects the pelvis. Dienogest (DNG) has unique advantages in the treatment of endometriosis, but it also has side effects. Alternatively, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for over 2000 years in the treatment and prevention of disease and growing numbers of Chinese scholars are experimenting with the combined use of Dienogest and TCM for endometriosis treatment. Objectives: This review evaluated the efficacy and safety of TCM in combination with Dienogest in the treatment of endometriosis through meta-analysis. Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Journal Integration Platform, and Wanfang were used in literature searches, with a deadline of May 31, 2022. Literature quality was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration "risk of bias" (ROB2) tool, and the "meta" package of R software v.4.1 was used for meta-analysis. Dichotomous variables and continuous variables were assessed using the relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI); standard mean differences (MD) and 95% CI, respectively. Results: Twelve human randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one retrospective study, all 13 written in the Chinese language, were included in the meta-analysis (720 experiments and 719 controls). The result indicated that TCM plus Dienogest was superior to Dienogest/TCM alone in increasing the cure rates (RR = 1.3780; 95% CI, 1.1058, 1.7172; P = 0.0043), remarkable effect rate (RR = 1.3389; 95% CI, 1.1829, 1.5154; P < 0.0001), invalid rate (RR = 0.2299; 95% CI, 0.1591, 0.3322; P < 0.0001), and rate of adverse effects (RR = 0.6177; 95% CI, 0.4288, 0.8899; P = 0.0097). The same conclusion was drawn from the subgroup analysis. Conclusion: Results suggest that TCM combined with Dienogest is superior to Dienogest or TCM alone and can be used as a complementary treatment for endometriosis. TCMs have potential to improve clinical efficacy and reduce the side effects of Dienogest. This study was financially supported by Annual Science and Technology Steering Plan Project of Zhuzhou. RESUMO

PURPOSE: With the progress of medical technology and renovated conception of fertility, the prospective studies and practice of fertility preservation are drawing more and more attention from medical workers. With the largest population of over 1.4 billion, China makes the experience accumulated in fertility preservation efforts even more relevant. This article summarizes China's experience and shares it with the world to promote the healthy development of fertility preservation. METHODS: This study was based on multiple Chinese expert consensuses on fertility preservation issued in 2021 and the current national regulations and principles, compared with the latest advice and guidelines issued by global reproductive authorities such as the ASRM and ESHRE. Summarize the experience and reflection of Chinese scholars in the process of fertility preservation. RESULTS: This study reports on the current situation of fertility preservation in China, sharing the Chinese experience gained in the process of development, and offering Chinese reflections on worrying issues. CONCLUSION: Fertility preservation is a medical and social issue of reproductive health security, which is conducive to the sound development of the world population and social production.

BACKGROUND: It remains unclear whether enteral nutrition (EN) has an impact on prognosis and immune nutritional status for patients in the cardiothoracic surgery recovery unit (CSRU). We hypothesized that only patients with specific characteristics would benefit from EN and aimed to distinguish that specific population by examining a large database. METHODS: Propensity-score matching (PSM) was used to eliminate the baseline imbalances between the EN and non-EN groups. The modified nutritional risk in the critically ill (mNUTRIC) score was used to assess the severity of patients' disease as well as their nutritional risk. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to compare the differences in 28- and 1000-day overall survival in the two groups after PSM. Generalized additive mixed models (GAMMs) were used to show dynamic changes in neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios (NLRs) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratios (PLRs) in the two groups. Subgroup analysis was used to identify the specific population that could benefit from EN. RESULTS: A total of 1823 patients (EN group, n = 395; non-EN group, n = 1428) were enrolled; after PSM, 320 pairs of patients remained. EN was found to reduce the 28-day mortality rate (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] = .56; 95% CI, .35-.91; P = .019) of patients, whereas it had no effect on 1000-day survival (adjusted HR = .97; 95% CI, .75-1.25; P = .797). Subgroup analyses indicated that patients with mNUTRIC equal to or greater than 4, body mass index (BMI) 25-30 kg/m2, and vasopressor support were more likely to benefit from EN. NLR and PLR in the EN group decreased progressively over time compared with the non-EN group, suggesting that EN might improve clinical outcomes by regulating immune and inflammatory responses. CONCLUSION: EN may improve the prognosis and immune nutritional status of patients in the CSRU. Patients who might benefit should be actively treated with EN.

Background: The relationship between allergic diseases (AD) and mental disorders (MD) in women has not been fully systematically evaluated. We aimed at validating this correlation. Methods: The relevant cohort and case-control studies from the establishment of the database to February 18, 2022 in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane library were searched by computer. The researchers conducted the quality evaluation of the included articles by reviewing and discussing with reference to relevant standards, and conducted the analysis of the correlation between female patients with AD and MD by using Review Manager 5.4. Results: Six observational studies from 2631 studies (n = 1160858 women) were assessed as medium and high-quality studies. The meta-analysis demonstrated that AD was correlated with MD in female patients (OR = 1.21, 95%CI: 1.14-1.29), including asthma (OR = 1.16, 95%CI: 1.11-1.22), allergic rhinitis (OR = 1.31, 95%CI: 1.06-1.63), and atopic dermatitis in women (OR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.24-1.50) were associated with MD. At the same time, subgroup analysis was performed according to region, study design, criteria of AD and MD, and the results demonstrated that both AD and MD were correlated in these different conditions. Objective: To analyze the research hot spots and frontiers of studies on of the fusion of sports and medicine (FSM) in China in recent decade via CiteSpace. Methods: Relevant publications related FSM published from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2021 were obtained from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database. CiteSpace software was used to analyze the amount of publications, institutions and keywords using standard bibliometric indicators. Results: A total of 729 publications on FSM were identified, and 688 qualified records were included in the final analysis. Between 2012 to 2021, the number of publications showed a trend of growth, albeit with certain fluctuations. The authors of these publications were mainly from universities or colleges with sports background. The institution leading the study was the Beijing Sport University (n = 20), the most prolific (n =12) and most-cited (224 times) author was Guo JJ from Capital University of Physical Education Sports. The journal with most publications on FSM was Contemporary Sports Technology (n =74). The analysis of keywords showed that the "FSM" had the highest frequency (n = 269), "integration of sports and medicine" had the strongest citation bursts (4.82), "national fitness" had the highest centrality (0.97) in recent decade, and 15 clusters of keywords were produced by log-likelihood ratio (all silhouette value >0.9). Conclusion: The findings of this bibliometric study analyse the current status and trends in the FSM in China, which may help to identify hot topics, explore new study directions for scholars and policymakers in the future.

(1) Objectives: The effect of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) for thymoma and thymic carcinoma remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of PORT for thymoma and thymic carcinoma in a population-based registry. (2) Methods: This retrospective study used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to identify patients diagnosed with thymoma and thymic carcinoma between 2010 and 2019. Propensity score matching was performed to adjust statistical influences between the PORT and non-PORT groups. (3) Results: A total of 2558 patients with thymoma (n = 2138) or thymic carcinoma (n = 420) were included. In the multivariate analysis, PORT was an independent prognostic factor for OS (overall survival; p < 0.001) and CSS (cancer-specific survival; p = 0.001) in thymoma and an independent prognostic factor for OS in thymic carcinoma (p = 0.018). Subgroup analyses revealed that PORT was beneficial to OS and CSS in patients with Masaoka-Koga stage IIB-IV thymoma (OS: IIB, p < 0.001; III-IV, p = 0.005; CSS: IIB, p = 0.015; III-IV, p = 0.002) and stage IIB thymic carcinoma (OS: p = 0.012; CSS: p = 0.029). (4) Conclusion: This propensity-matched analysis identified the prognostic value of PORT in thymoma and thymic carcinoma based on the SEER database. For patients with stage IIB-IV thymoma and stage IIB thymic carcinoma, PORT was associated with improved OS and CSS. A more positive attitude towards the use of PORT for nonlocalized thymoma and thymic carcinoma may be appropriate.

Developing fast-charging, high-temperature, and sustainable batteries is critical for the large-scale deployment of energy storage devices in electric vehicles, grid-scale electrical energy storage, and high temperature regions. Here, a transition metal-free all-organic rechargeable potassium battery (RPB) based on abundant and sustainable organic electrode materials (OEMs) and potassium resources for fast-charging and high-temperature applications is demonstrated. N-doped graphene and a 2.8 m potassium hexafluorophosphate (KPF6 ) in diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DEGDME) electrolyte are employed to mitigate the dissolution of OEMs, enhance the electrode conductivity, accommodate large volume change, and form stable solid electrolyte interphase in the all-organic RPB. At room temperature, the RPB delivers a high specific capacity of 188.1 mAh g-1 at 50 mA g-1 and superior cycle life of 6000 and 50000 cycles at 1 and 5 A g-1 , respectively, demonstrating an ultra-stable and fast-charging all-organic battery. The impressive performance at room temperature is extended to high temperatures, where the high-mass-loading (6.5 mg cm-2 ) all-organic RPB exhibits high-rate capability up to 2 A g-1 and a long lifetime of 500 cycles at 70-100 °C, demonstrating a superb fast-charging and high-temperature battery. The cell configuration demonstrated in this work shows great promise for practical applications of sustainable batteries at extreme conditions.

To provide synthesized evidence on the association of diabetes with clinical outcomes of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and associated cardiogenic shock (CS). We analyzed observational studies on patients with AMI and CS, identified through a systematic search using PubMed and Scopus databases. The main outcome was mortality and other outcomes of interest were risk of major bleeding, re-infarction, cerebrovascular adverse events, and need for revascularization. We conducted the meta-analysis with data from 15 studies. Compared to patients without diabetes, those with diabetes had an increased risk of in-hospital mortality (OR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.17-1.54) and cerebrovascular complications (OR, 1.28; 95% CI, 1.11-1.48). We found similar risk of major bleeding (OR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.43-1.09), re-infarction (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.48-1.98) and need for re-vascularization (OR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.75-1.22) as well as hospital stay lengths (in days) (WMD 0.00; 95% CI, -0.27-0.28; n = 4; I2 = 99.7%) in the two groups of patients. Patients with diabetes, acute MI and associated cardiogenic shock have increased risks of mortality and adverse cerebrovascular events than those without diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Exosomal long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) has been shown to be potential biomarker for cancer diagnosis and follow up. However, little is known about its application in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) detection. Here, we sought to develop a novel diagnostic model based on serum exosomal lncRNAs to improve ESCC screening efficiency. METHODS: A multiphase, case-control study was conducted among 140 ESCC patients and 140 healthy controls. Microarray screening was performed to acquire differentially expressed exosomal lncRNAs in the discovery phase. The diagnostic model Index I was constructed based on a panel of three lncRNAs using logistic regression in the training phase, and were confirmed in a subsequent validation phase. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was generated to calculate the diagnostic value. The effects of the selected lncRNAs level on ESCC mortality were evaluated using a Cox hazard regression model and Kaplan-Meier curve analysis, and the expression level with clinicopathological features was also calculated. Finally, we explored the oncogenic potential of candidate lncRNA RASSF8-AS1 in vitro and by target mRNA sequencing. RESULTS: Index I was able to discriminate ESCC patients from healthy controls, and showed superiority to classic tumor biomarkers. Moreover, serum levels of the exosomal lncRNAs correlated with clinicopathological features and prognosis. The in vitro assays showed that RASSF8-AS1 played an oncogenic role in ESCC. Target mRNA scanning results suggested involvement of RASSF8-AS1 in tumor immunity and metabolism. CONCLUSION: The newly identified serum exosomal lncRNAs could be used as new biomarkers for ESCC, and showed oncogenic potential in ESCC.

Premature ovarian insufficiency, characterized by ovarian infertility and low fertility, has become a significant problem in developed countries due to its propensity for late delivery. It has been described that the vital role of lncRNA in the development and progression of POI. The aim of this work was to create a POI-based lncRNA-mRNA network (POILMN) to recognize key lncRNAs. Overall, differently expressed mRNAs (DEGs) and differently expressed lncRNAs (DELs) were achieved by using the AnnoProbe and limma R packages. POI-based lncRNA-mRNA network (POILMN) construction was carried out using the tinyarray R package and hypergeometric distribution. To identify key lncRNAs, we used CentiScaPe plug-in Cytoscape as a screening tool. In total, 244 differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs) and 288 differentially expressed mRNAs (DEGs) were obtained in this study. Also, 177 lncRNA/mRNA pairs (including 39 lncRNAs and 86 mRNAs) were selected using the hypergeometric test. Finally, we identified four lncRNA (HCP5, NUTM2A-AS1, GABPB1-IT1, and SMIM25) intersections by topological analysis between two centralities (degree and betweenness), and we explored their subnetwork GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. Here, we have provided strong evidence for a relationship with apoptosis, DNA repair damage, and energy metabolism terms and pathways in the key lncRNAs in our POI-based lncRNA-mRNA network. In addition, we evaluated the localization information of genes related to POI and found that genes were more distributed on chromosomes 15, 16, 17, and 19. However, more experiments are needed to confirm the functional significance of such predicted lncRNA/mRNA. In conclusion, our study identified four long non-coding RNA molecules that may be relevant to the progress of premature ovarian insufficiency.

BACKGROUND: Acyl-CoA thioesterase 7 (ACOT7) is of great significance in regulating cell cycle, cell proliferation, and glucose metabolism. The function of ACOT7 in pan-cancer and its capacity as a prognostic indicator in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remains unknown. We intended to perform a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of ACOT7 and to validate its value in LUAD. METHODS: The expression levels, prognostic significance, molecular function, signaling pathways, and immune infiltration pattern of ACOT7 in 33 cancers were explored via systematic bioinformatics analysis. Multivariate Cox regression was applied to construct nomograms to predict patients' prognoses. Moreover, we conducted in vitro experiments including CCK8, scratch, Transwell, and Matrigel assays to further explore the function of ACOT7 in LUAD. RESULTS: Patients with high ACOT7 expression have notably poorer long-term survival in many cancer types, including LUAD. Further enrichment analyses reveal that ACOT7 is involved in immune cells' infiltration and is substantially related to the cancer-immune microenvironment. ACOT7 could influence drug sensitivities, including afatinib, gefitinib, ibrutinib, lapatinib, osimertinib, sapitinib, taselisib, and PLX-4720 (all p < 0.01). A nomogram demonstrated a fair predictive value of ACOT7 in LUAD (C-index: 0.613, 95% CI: 0.568-0.658). The proliferation and migration of PC9 cells were significantly repressed when ACOT7 expression was downregulated. CONCLUSION: As an oncogene, ACOT7 is critical in the tumor microenvironment of pan-cancer and might be a novel therapeutic target for LUAD.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is an idiopathic cerebrovascular disease which was first described by Suzuki and Takaku in 1969. Moyamoya disease is a non-atherosclerotic cerebrovascular structural disorder. MMD has been found all over the world, especially in Japan, Korea, and China. In recent years, many reports pointed out that the changes of vascular stenosis in patients with moyamoya disease occurred not only in intracranial vessels, but also in extracranial vessels, especially the changes of renal artery. Renovascular hypertension (RVH) is considered to be one of the important causes of hypertension in patients with moyamoya disease. The pathogenesis of moyamoya disease combined with renovascular hypertension is still unclear, and the selection of treatment has not yet reached a consensus. This article reviews the latest research progress in epidemiology, RNF213 gene, pathomorphology, clinical characteristics and treatment of moyamoya disease combined with renovascular hypertension, in order to provide reference for clinical workers.

Organic materials are competitive as anodes for Na-ion batteries (NIBs) due to the low cost, abundance, environmental benignity, and high sustainability. Herein, we synthesized three halogenated carboxylate-based organic anode materials to exploit the impact of halogen atoms (F, Cl, and Br) on the electrochemical performance of carboxylate anodes in NIBs. The fluorinated carboxylate anode, disodium 2, 5-difluoroterephthalate (DFTP-Na), outperforms the other carboxylate anodes with H, Cl, and Br, in terms of high specific capacity (212 mA h g-1), long cycle life (300 cycles), and high rate capability (up to 5 A g-1). As evidenced by the experimental and computational results, the two F atoms in DFTP reduce the solubility, enhance the cyclic stability, and interact with Na+ during the redox reaction, resulting in a high-capacity and stable organic anode material in NIBs. Therefore, this work proves that fluorinating carboxylate compounds is an effective approach to developing high-performance organic anodes for stable and sustainable NIBs.

Objective: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is an effective intervention for metabolic disorder. We aim to elucidate whether ghrelin contributes to weight reduction, and glycemic and lipid control after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). Design: Four-week-old WT and Ghrl-TSC1-/- mice were fed high fat diet for 12 weeks before surgery, and continued to be on the same diet for 3 weeks after surgery. Body weight, food intake, glycemic and lipid metabolism were analyzed before and after surgery. Results: Gastric and circulating ghrelin was significantly increased in mice with RYGB surgery. Hypoghrelinemia elicited by deletion of TSC1 to activate mTOR signaling in gastric X/A like cells demonstrated no effect on weight reduction, glycemic and lipid control induced by Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. Conclusion: Lower ghrelin levels does not impact the metabolic benefit induced by Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Background: Epidemiological evidence on Urine metals and cognitive impairment in older individuals is sparse and limited. The goal of this study was to analyze if there was a link between urinary metal levels and cognitive performance in U.S. people aged 60 and up. Methods: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2011 to 2014 were utilized in this cross-sectional analysis. Memory function was quantified using the following methods: Established Consortium for Word Learning in Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD-WL) (immediate learning and recall and delayed recall), Animal Fluency Test (AFT), and Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST). An inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to estimate urine metal concentrations. The connection of Urine metals level with cognitive function was investigated employing binary logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models. Results: A total of 840 participants aged 60 years and over were enrolled in this study. After controlling for confounders, the association between cadmium, barium, cobalt, cesium, manganese, and thallium and poor cognitive performance showed significance in multiple logistic regression compared to the lowest quartile of metals. In the DSST test, the weighted multivariate adjusted ORs (95% CI) for cadmium in the highest quartile, barium and cesium in the third quartile were 2.444 (1.310-4.560), 0.412 (0.180-0.942) and 0.440 (0.198-0.979), respectively. There were L-shaped associations between urine cesium, barium, or manganese and low cognitive performance in DSST. Urine lead, molybdenum and uranium did not show any significant relationships with cognitive impairment, respectively, compared to the respective lowest quartile concentrations. Conclusion: The levels of barium (Ba), cobalt (Co), cesium (Cs), manganese (Mn), and thallium (Tl) in urine were found to be negatively related to the prevalence of impaired cognitive performance in our cross-sectional investigation. Higher cadmium (Cd) levels were associated with cognitive impairment.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the impact of outflow patency on radiosurgical outcomes of lateral sinus dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs). METHODS: We retrospectively examined 83 lateral sinus DAVFs treated with Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) between 1995 and 2020. Two neuroradiologists blinded to the therapeutic outcomes served as imaging evaluators on pre-GKRS digital subtraction angiography and magnetic resonance images. The sinovenous outflow of lateral sinus DAVF was scored using combined conduit score (CCS), ranging from 0 (total occlusion) to 8 (full patency). The patients' follow-up magnetic resonance and digital subtraction angiography images were used to validate the radiosurgical outcomes (obliteration or non-obliteration) of lateral sinus DAVF. Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier analyses were performed to determine the correlations between the variables and outcomes. RESULTS: Among the 83 cases, 60 (72%) lateral sinus DAVFs achieved obliteration after a GKRS at a median latency period of 24.5 months. After adjustment for aggressive presentation, cortical venous reflux, straight sinus reflux, and optic nerve sheath enlargement, a CCS of >6 was independently associated with lateral sinus DAVF obliteration (hazard ratio: 2.335, P = 0.007). The estimated 36-month probabilities of obliteration were 80% versus 53.6% for lateral sinus DAVFs with a CCS of >6 versus ≤6. CONCLUSIONS: Lateral sinus DAVFs with a CCS of >6, indicating a nearly patent sinovenous outflow, were more likely to be obliterated after GKRS. Sinovenous outflow patency is a factor associated with therapeutic outcomes in radiosurgery for lateral sinus DAVFs.

The lithium (Li)-metal anode offers a promising solution for high-energy-density lithium-metal batteries (LMBs). However, the significant volume expansion of the Li metal during charging results in poor cycling stability as a result of the dendritic deposition and broken solid electrolyte interphase. Herein, a facile one-step roll-to-roll fabrication of a zero-volume-expansion Li-metal-composite anode (zeroVE-Li) is proposed to realize high-energy-density LMBs with outstanding electrochemical and mechanical stability. The zeroVE-Li possesses a sandwich-like trilayer structure, which consists of an upper electron-insulating layer and a bottom lithiophilic layer that synergistically guides the Li deposition from the bottom up, and a middle porous layer that eliminates volume expansion. This sandwich structure eliminates dendrite formation, prevents volume change during cycling, and provides outstanding flexibility to the Li-metal anode even at a practical areal capacity over 3.0 mAh cm-2 . Pairing zeroVE-Li with a commercial NMC811 or LCO cathode, flexible LMBs that offer a record-breaking figure of merit (FOM, 45.6), large whole-cell energy density (375 Wh L-1 , based on the volume of the anode, separator, cathode, and package), high-capacity retention (> 99.8% per cycle), and remarkable mechanical robustness under practical conditions are demonstrated.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have explored the association between parenting style and offspring's psychological well-being, and the association between offspring's achievement attribution pattern and psychological well-being. However, little is known about the role of offspring's achievement attribution in the relationship between parenting and offspring's psychological well-being. We aimed to find the role of adolescents' achievement attribution pattern in the relationship between parent-child communication quality and adolescents' mental health. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 2,725 adolescents aged from 9 to 18 years who are participating in the China Family Panel Studies. Participants supplied demographic information and completed a series of psychological scales including the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale, an adapted version of the Parental Bonding Instrument, an achievement attribution scale, and single-item measures of subjective well-being and subjective interpersonal popularity. RESULTS: Linear regression analysis revealed that after controlling for demographic factors good parent-child communication negatively correlated with depression symptoms, and positively associated with subjective well-being and subjective interpersonal popularity. Next, mediation analysis found that internal attribution of achievement partly mediated the effects of parent-child communication quality on adolescents' depression, subjective well-being, and subjective interpersonal popularity. The result was robust after controlling demographic variables. CONCLUSIONS: An internal attribution pattern of achievement partially accounted for the associations between parent-child communication quality and adolescents' psychological outcomes including depression, subjective well-being, and subjective interpersonal popularity. Future interventions for adolescents' mental health promotion can target parent-child communication and adolescents' positive achievement attribution pattern.

Background: Patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) who have hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection tend to be treated with induction chemotherapy (IC) due to a higher metastasis rate. However, additional IC may lead to immunosuppression and can negatively affect the prognosis. We evaluated whether receiving IC improved the prognosis of patients with NPC co-infected with HBV, on the basis of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Methods: This large-scale retrospective cohort study included data of patients with pathologically confirmed NPC that were collected from two hospitals between January 2010 and March 2014. Patients were followed-up every 3 months during the first 2 years and once every 6 months thereafter. Univariate analysis identified confounding factors associated with prognosis. Stage-based subgroup analyses and 1:1 random-matched pair analyses were performed to compare the survival differences between patients treated with IC + CCRT and those treated with CCRT alone. Results: Among the 1,076 enrolled patients, 16.6% were hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive. Among HBsAg-positive patients with stage II/III/IV NPC, distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) (79.3% vs. 89.9%; P=0.045) and progression-free survival (PFS) (70.6% vs. 83.7%; P=0.025) were lower in patients who received IC + CCRT than in those who received CCRT alone. After adjusting for confounding factors, IC + CCRT was validated as a negative prognosticator for DMFS and PFS, while matched-pair analysis with HBsAg-negative patients showed a better overall survival (OS) for IC + CCRT (88.4% vs. 82.6%; P=0.04). Conclusions: Compared with CCRT alone, IC + CCRT negatively affects DMFS and PFS in patients with NPC with chronic HBV infection. We advocate withholding IC but administering stronger initial treatment in NPC patients complicated with HBV infection.
