RESUMO

When wars, major disasters, or epidemics of the infectious diseases occur, existing medical facilities are usually unable to implement timely and effective treatment for patients, or the reception capacity is difficult to meet the surge in demand for health care. The makeshift emergency hospitals are built for patient reception, treatment, and even isolation for infectious disease control. The makeshift hospitals have developed and improved in modern times, including mobile field hospitals, field tent hospitals, and navy hospital ships equipped with advanced equipment and commonly used for military purposes or in support of disaster relief and humanitarian operation, and temporary hospitals built in large public buildings, and newly built hospitals. Makeshift hospitals have played an important role in response to many disasters and epidemics globally. This paper briefly summarizes the history, types, and applications of makeshift hospitals in disaster and epidemic response.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of Fei-Liu-Ping ointment and chemotherapy on mice with lung cancer, and to explore the inherent mechanism of action from the point of acidic microenvironment and apoptosis. METHODS: First of all, the Lewis lung cancer transplanted mouse model was established. Therefore, they were treated by Fei-Liu-Ping ointment, cyclophosphamide, Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide and the saline as control. All the groups' tumor size, tumor growth rate and food consumption were recorded. The mice were sacrificed and the tumors were took out after 15 days' interventions. Then lactate relative concentrations were detected with lactate kits and the protein expressions of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), hexokinase 1 (HK1), glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), carbonic anhydrase-IX (CA-IX) were detected through immunohistochemical staining. Flow cytometry was adopted to detect the percentage of apoptotic tumor cells and regulatory T cells (Treg), and the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), Bcl-2, Bax, Caspase-3, interleukin-2 (IL-2) were tested through western blot. RESULTS: The strongest inhibition effect and the lowest tumor growth rate was found in Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide group. There were significant differences between Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide group and saline group(P<0.05). And the highest food consumption was found in Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide group while there were no significant differences between Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide group and saline group (P>0.05). Further molecular biological detections found that the lowest lactate level and regulatory T cells ratio were found in Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide group and these expressions of GLUT4, HK1, GRP78, CA-IX were suppressed. There were significant differences between Fei-Liu-Ping ointment+cyclophosphamide group and saline group (P<0.05). In addition, the Fei-Liu-Ping ointment + cyclophosphamide group's cell apoptosis increased significantly compared with saline group and there were significant differences on expressions of HIF-1α, Bcl-2, Bax, Caspase-3, IL-2 for this group compared with saline group. CONCLUSION: Chemotherapy and Fei-Liu-Ping ointment had the synergistic effect on inhibiting tumor growth and improving the general conditions of tumor-bearing mice. The effect was partly owed to the improvement on tissue hypoxia, the inhibition of HIF-1α expression and the regulations on its downstream proteins, such as GLUT4, HK1, GRP78, and CA-IX. And then all these alterations led to the modulation tumor acidic microenvironment, the induced tumor cells apoptosis and suppression of T cells to regulatory T cells differentiation.

RESUMO

In this report, an H12N2 influenza A virus was identified from a fecal sample in the falcated teal, Anas falcata, located in the Dongting Lake wetland. This is the first report of H12N2 IAV detected from wild birds in China. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all eight segments of this H12N2 virus clustered in the Eurasian lineage. This strain was also shown to be closely related to those from duck-origin, goose origin and wild bird origin. This suggested a transmission of influenza A virus along the East Asian-Australian flyway. In addition, these results implied an interaction between wild birds and domestic poultry and established the need of a long-term and systematic surveillance of wild bird populations. Keywords: influenza A virus; H12N2 subtype; Dongting Lake wetland; wild birds; phylogenetic analysis.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Radiotherapy is the main treatment method for patients with locally advanced, unresectable esophageal cancer. The aim of this study is to compare overall survival (OS) using 3D radiotherapy (3DRT) alone with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in 296 non-surgical esophageal carcinoma patients. PATENTS AND METHODS: Over 10 years, of the 480 patients with esophageal carcinoma treated with 3DRT with or without chemotherapy, 148 patients each comprised 3DRT and CCRT groups after propensity score matching. RESULTS: The 5- and 10-year OS (P=0.337) and PFS (P=0.715) rates for 3DRT alone were 22.0%, 14.4% and 26.1%, 23.2%, respectively, compared with 28.8%, 18.6% and 34.7%, 29.1% for CCRT, respectively. CCRT did not improve 5-year and 10-year OS or PFS in 60-70Gy group (OS: 27.5% and 25.2%; 17.9% and 17.0%, P=0.938; PFS: 38.3% and 31.8%; 31.9% and 27.8%, P=0.890) nor reduce 10-year hematogenous metastasis (31.7% and 28.3%, P=0.698). CCRT improved 5-year OS and PFS of 50.0-59.9Gy group (OS: 33.3% and 12.0%, P=0.029; PFS: 33.1% and 10.6%, P=0.081). For 3DRT, the 5-year OS and PFS rates were significantly better in the 60-70Gy group (P=0.017) compared with 50.0-59.9Gy group (P=0.002). For CCRT group, 5-year OS and PFS favored the 50.0-59.9Gy group, but the difference was insignificant. Major toxicities were greater with CCRT compared with 3DRT. CONCLUSION: For non-surgical esophageal carcinoma patients, 3DRT combined with CCRT was effective in prolonging both OS and PFS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study explored the effect of miR-26a-5p on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in gastric cancer by targeting COL10A1. MATERIALS AND METHODS: First, differentially expressed genes were identified from microarray GSE103236 data of human gastric cancer. Then, qRT-PCR was carried out to detect the expression levels of COL10A1 and miR-26a-5p in gastric cancer cells and normal cases. The CCK-8 method was used to test cell proliferation. The colony formation assay was performed for the examination of the cell colony-forming ability, and transwell was applied for the detection of cell migration and invasion. Subsequently, the targeted relationship between miR-26a-5p and COL10A1 was identified by bioinformatics methods and further verified by Dual-Luciferase assay. The rescue experiment was finally conducted to validate the miR-26a-5p-dependent mechanism on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion via targeting COL10A1. RESULTS: COL10A1 was found to be highly expressed in gastric cancer cells, while miR-26a-5p was poorly expressed. Silencing COL10A1 inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in gastric cancer. Besides, miR-26a-5p could function on gastric cancer cells by reducing COL10A1. As well, the rescue experiment suggested that the down-regulation of COL10A1 could reverse the inhibitory effect of miR-26a-5p on gastric cancer cells. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, miR-26a-5p can potentiate proliferation, migration, and invasion of gastric cancer cells by targeting COL10A1.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The role of NEAT1 in cancers has been demonstrated. But the role of NEAT1 in cardiac hypertrophy still remains unknown. This study aimed to elucidate the specific function of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) NEAT1 in cardiac hypertrophy and its underlying mechanism. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this study, the in vivo and in vitro cardiac hypertrophy models were constructed by transverse aortic coarctation (TAC) procedure in rats and phenylephrine (PE) induction in primary cardiomyocytes, respectively. The expression levels of NEAT1, microRNA-19a-3p, SMYD2, and cardiac hypertrophic markers were detected by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). Cardiac hypertrophy was evaluated as calculating the surface area of hypertrophic cardiomyocyte by fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-Phalloidin staining. Luciferase Reporter Gene Assay was conducted to detect the binding of NEAT1, SMYD2, and microRNA-19a-3p. RESULTS: The results showed that NEAT1 and SMYD2 were highly expressed in myocardium of rats with cardiac hypertrophy and PE-induced primary cardiomyocytes, whereas microRNA-19a-3p was lowly expressed. Besides, NEAT1 overexpression markedly upregulated levels of the cardiac hypertrophic markers. Moreover, FITC-Phalloidin staining also revealed hypertrophic cardiomyocytes overexpressing NEAT1. On the contrary, microRNA-19a-3p overexpression reduced the cardiomyocyte surface area and downregulated the levels of the cardiac hypertrophic markers. As luciferase reporter gene assay demonstrated, NEAT1 and SMYD2 could bind to microRNA-19a-3p. Finally, the gain-of-function experiments were designed to verify whether NEAT1 exerted its functions in cardiac hypertrophy by modulating SMYD2 and microRNA-19a-3p. Furthermore, both microRNA-19a-3p overexpression or SMYD2 knockdown could inhibit and reduce the cardiomyocyte surface area, and downregulate the levels of the cardiac hypertrophic markers. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, NEAT1 promotes the occurrence and progression of cardiac hypertrophy by upregulating SMYD2 by binding to microRNA-19a-3p.

RESUMO

AIMS: In order to understand the response of soil microbial communities to the long-term of decomposed straw return, the modifications of soil microbial community structure and composition induced by more than 10 years of fresh and decomposed straw return was investigated and the key environmental factors were analysed. METHODS AND RESULTS: Phospholipid fatty acid analysis and high-through sequencing technique were applied to analyse the structure and composition of the soil microbial communities. Compared with fresh straw, returning decomposed straw increased the relative abundance of bacteria and fungi by 1·9 and 7·7% at a rate of ~3750 kg ha-1 , and increased by 23·1 and 5·7%, at a rate of ~7500 kg ha-1 respectively. The relative abundance of the bacteria related to soil nitrification increased, but the ones related to soil denitrification decreased with decomposed straw return, which led to higher total nitrogen contents in soils. Moreover, returning decomposed straw reduced pathogenic fungal populations (genus of Alternara), which had significantly positive correlation with soil electric conductivity. It indicated that the long-term of decomposed straw return might have lower risk of soil-borne disease mainly for the reasonable soil salinity. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term of decomposed straw return could provide suitable nutrient and salinity for healthier development of soil microbial community, both in abundance and structure, compared with fresh straw return. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The results of the study helps to better understand how the microbial community modifications induced by decomposed straw return benefit on soil health. The obtained key factors impacting soil microbial community variations is meaningful in soil health management under conditions of straw return.

RESUMO

In this study, thermosonication was used as a combined treatment of raw goat milk (RGM) using pasteurization (72 °C for 15 s) and ultrasound treatments (20 kHz at the power variance of 150 W, 200 W, 300 W and 400 W for 10 min). Investigation on the impact of the microbial load, protein content, protein aggregation, the particle size of fat and casein micelles, pH, viscosity, turbidity, color, and soluble calcium and phosphorus contents were carried out, whiles RGM and PGM served as the control. Our results revealed that at 400 W, that thermosonication resulted in a significant reduction (α = 0.05) in the microbial load of the samples to less than 2.3 log cfu/mL in comparison to those of RGM and pasteurized goat milk (PGM) at 5.94 log cfu/mL and 4.76 log cfu/mL respectively. In RGM, the fat size (3.5 µm) decreased to 0.4 µm at 300 W; while those of casein micelles also decreased from 406 to 256.4 nm at 400 W. However, no significant effect was observed in the color and soluble calcium and phosphorus contents of all samples. The effect on the microbial load and fat homogenization would promote thermosonication process in the dairy industry.

RESUMO

We describe a 65-year-old man who presented with arthralgia, reduced body hair and gynecomastia. He showed severe pancytopaenia. Laboratory examination revealed high follicle-stimulating hormone, low testosterone and oestradiol, elevated antinuclear antibodies, anti-dsDNA and ESR levels, as well as low complement levels. An electrocardiogram showed atrial fibrillation. Computed tomography and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry showed pleural effusion and osteoporosis. Chromosome analysis revealed 47, XXY karyotype. The unifying diagnosis was therefore Klinefelter's syndrome (KS) with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with manifestations of pancytopaenia, atrial fibrillation, serositis and osteoporosis. After immunosuppressive therapy, his physical condition and pancytopaenia improved. Sex hormones and gene escape from X chromosome inactivation may contribute to the pathogenesis of SLE. Clinicians should consider autoimmune processes when patients with KS present with pancytopaenia or additional features of a systemic autoimmune disorder.

RESUMO

The Chinese National Twin Registry (CNTR) currently includes data from 61 566 twin pair from 11 provinces or cities in China. Of these, 31 705, 15 060 and 13 531 pairs are monozygotic, same-sex dizygotic and opposite-sex dizygotic pairs, respectively, determined by opposite sex or intrapair similarity. Since its establishment in 2001, the CNTR has provided an important resource for analysing genetic and environmental influences on chronic diseases especially cardiovascular diseases. Recently, the CNTR has focused on collecting biologic specimens from disease-concordant or disease-discordant twin pairs or from twin pairs reared apart. More than 8000 pairs of these twins have been registered, and blood samples have been collected from more than 1500 pairs. In this review, we summarize the main findings from univariate and multivariate genetic effects analyses, gene-environment interaction studies, omics studies exploring DNA methylation and metabolomic markers associated with phenotypes. There remains further scope for CNTR research and data mining. The plan for future development of the CNTR is described. The CNTR welcomes worldwide collaboration.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the expression of circ-CCDC66 in gastric cancer (GC) tissues and cell lines, as well as its correlation with the prognosis of GC. Moreover, the regulatory effects of circ-CCDC66 on biological behaviors of GC cells and its molecular mechanism were explored. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The relative expression level of circ-CCDC66 in GC tissues and cell lines was determined by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). The correlation between the circ-CCDC66 level and overall survival of GC patients was analyzed as well. The potential influences of circ-CCDC66 on proliferative and invasive abilities of GC cells were evaluated through 5-Ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU), colony formation and transwell assay, respectively. Meanwhile, the cell cycle progression and apoptosis of GC cells affected by circ-CCDC66 were determined. In addition, the direct target miRNA of circ-CCDC66 was predicted and verified by bioinformatics method and Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay, respectively. RESULTS: Circ-CCDC66 was significantly up-regulated in GC tissues and cell lines. Up-regulation of circ-CCDC66 indicated markedly worse prognosis of GC patients. Transfection of circ-CCDC66-siRNA remarkably attenuated proliferative and invasive abilities of BGC-823 and MGC-803 cells. Besides, GC cells were arrested in the G0/G1 phase, and the apoptotic rate was remarkably elevated after circ-CCDC66 knockdown. The Dual-Luciferase reporter gene assay verified that circ-CCDC66 bind to miRNA-1238-3p by competing with LHX2 (LIM-homeobox domain 2). MiRNA-1238-3p was significantly down-regulated in GC cells, whereas LHX2 was up-regulated. Furthermore, overexpression of miRNA-1238-3p in GC cells markedly suppressed the LHX2 level. CONCLUSIONS: Circ-CCDC66 is highly expressed in GC tissues and cell lines. Knockdown of circ-CCDC66 attenuates proliferative and invasive abilities of GC cells. Our results indicate that circ-CCDC66/miRNA-1238-3p/LHX2 axis may be a promising target for GC treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the genetic architecture of susceptibility variants of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) in Chinese and Europeans. METHODS: We selected the independent genome-wide significant variants of IgAN in European population as candidate variants. Their associations, risk alleles, risk allele frequencies, odds ratios and population attributable risk scores were derived and calculated, then compared with those in the current Chinese population, including 1 194 IgAN patients and 902 controls. Using the significant variants, genetic risk scores were calculated and compared between the East Asians and the Europeans. The correlation between the genetic risk scores and clinical manifestations was also evaluated. RESULTS: There were 16 independent single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located in 11 loci showing significantly association with susceptibility to IgAN in the Europeans. 93.75% (15/16) of them also showed significant associations in the Chinese (P<0.05). The effects of all the associated SNPs were in the same direction, either risk or being protective for IgAN, between the Chinese and the Europeans. On the contrary, remarkable higher risk allelic odds ratio (P=1.94×10-2), higher risk allele frequency (P=3.09×10-2), and higher population attributable risk (P=3.03×10-4) were observed for most of the associated SNPs in the Chinese than in the Europeans. Furthermore, genetic risk scores were significantly larger in the Asian populations compared with the Europeans (P=1.78×10-163). While there was no significance among the subpopulations in both the East Asians and the Europeans. Compared with the healthy controls, the genetic risk score in the IgAN patients was significantly larger (P=3.60×10-27). Clinical analysis showed the genetic risk score was positively associated with serum levels of IgA and IgA1, phases of chronic kidney disease and Haas grades. CONCLUSION: Our study provides further evidence in the shared genetic architecture between Chinese and Europeans, while differences with respect to the effect sizes and risk allele frequencies across ethnicities, contributing partially to the differences of disease prevalence.

RESUMO

The nasal-associated lymphoid tissues (NALTs), embedded in the submucosa of murine upper respiratory tract, represents an important site of induction for local mucosal immune responses to airborne pathogens and intranasal vaccines. Here, we systematically investigated the mucosal humoral and cellular immune responses of NALTs in mice infected with A/Beijing/501/2009 (BJ501) and A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 (PR8) viruses. Compared with PR8 infection, BJ501 induced a more rapid increase of virus-specific IgA and IgG antibodies in the nasal lavage fluid and a higher ratio of IgG1/IgG2a, indicating a stronger Th2 response to BJ501 in mucosal immunity. In addition, using virus-specific enzyme-linked immunospot assay (ELISpot assay), we observed higher and earlier responses of virus-specific IgA and IgG antibody-secreting cells (ASCs) and IFN-γ and IL-4 cytokine-secreting cells (CSCs) in NALTs of mice intranasally infected with BJ501 virus. In particular, the frequency of BJ501-specific IFN-γ-CSCs significantly correlated with the kinetics of BJ501 virus load in NALTs, suggesting an important role of IFN-γ-CSCs-associated mucosal cellular immune responses in BJ501 virus clearance. Collectively, BJ501 induced a more comprehensive and rapid mucosal immune responses in NALTs of mice, providing further understanding of the immune responses elicited by 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus in upper respiratory tract. Keywords: nasal-associated lymphoid tissues (NALTs); influenza virus; mucosal immune response; Th1/Th2 response.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Low-density-lipoprotein-receptor-associated protein 4 (LRP4) autoantibodies have recently been detected in myasthenia gravis (MG), but little is known about the clinical characteristics associated with this serological type. In this study, the clinical features of Chinese patients with anti-LRP4 antibody-positive MG were characterized. METHODS: A total of 2172 MG serum samples were collected from patients in various parts of China. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody and titin antibody, and cell-based assays were used to detect muscle-specific kinase antibody and LRP4 antibody. Clinical data for patients with MG were collected from different provinces in China. RESULTS: In total, 16 (0.8%) patients with LRP4-MG were found amongst 2172 total patients, including three patients with AChR/LRP4-MG. Additionally, 13 (2.9%) patients with LRP4-MG were found amongst 455 patients with double seronegative MG. The ratio of males to females for these 13 patients was 1:1.6, and 53.8% patients were children. A total of 91.7% of cases exhibited initial ocular involvement, and 58.3% of cases exhibited simple eye muscle involvement. Responses to acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and prednisone were observed. CONCLUSION: The expanded sample confirmed that the positive rate of LRP4 antibodies in China is lower than that in western countries. Our results highlighted the differences between LRP4-MG and other antibody groups. Children and female patients with LRP4-MG have a higher prevalence, often involving the ocular muscles and limb muscles. The clinical symptoms are mild, and satisfactory responses to treatment are often achieved.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether microbial contamination of preservation solution (PS) in kidney transplantation is associated with donor-derived infections (DDIs). METHODS: We retrospectively analysed data from 1077 deceased kidney transplant recipients of 560 donors. In all, 1002 PS samples were collected for microbiological assessment to establish the incidence and distribution of contamination. Comparisons between patients with contaminated PS and those with sterile PS were performed to assess the impact of microbial contaminations in perfusate on probable donor-derived infections (p-DDIs), and potential risk factors for p-DDIs were examined. RESULTS: The contamination rate of PS was 77.8% (402/517). Bacterial species accounted for 85.6% (887/1036) of the total 1036 isolated microorganisms and 26.5% (275/1002) of the recipients' PS were contaminated by ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp.). Enterococcus predominated the microbiological pattern. The incidence of infection was significantly higher in patients with microbial contamination than in patients with sterile PS (13.8% (107/776) versus 7.1% (16/226), p 0.006). The prevalence of p-DDIs was significantly higher in patients with ESKAPE contamination than in patients with other bacterial contamination in PS (7.2% (18/251) versus 1.0% (4/405), p 0.000). Univariate analysis indicated that ESKAPE contamination increased the risk of p-DDIs (p 0.001, OR 3.610, 95% CI 1.678-7.764). Multivariate analysis determined ESKAPE contamination as the only independent risk factor associated with p-DDIs (OR 3.418, 95% CI 1.580-7.393). CONCLUSIONS: The high rate of microbial contaminations in PS is unusual and probably due to poor surgical procedures. Patients whose PS are contaminated by ESKAPE pathogens could have a significantly increased risk of p-DDIs at early post-transplantation.

RESUMO

Background: Targeting the immune checkpoint pathway has demonstrated antitumor cytotoxicity in treatment-refractory head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC). To understand the molecular mechanisms underpinning its antitumor response, we characterized the immune landscape of HNSC by their tumor and stromal compartments to identify novel immune molecular subgroups. Patients and methods: A training cohort of 522 HNSC samples from the Cancer Genome Atlas profiled by RNA sequencing was analyzed. We separated gene expression patterns from tumor, stromal, and immune cell gene using a non-negative matrix factorization algorithm. We correlated the expression patterns with a set of immune-related gene signatures, potential immune biomarkers, and clinicopathological features. Six independent datasets containing 838 HNSC samples were used for validation. Results: Approximately 40% of HNSCs in the cohort (211/522) were identified to show enriched inflammatory response, enhanced cytolytic activity, and active interferon-γ signaling (all, P < 0.001). We named this new molecular class of tumors the Immune Class. Then we found it contained two distinct microenvironment-based subtypes, characterized by markers of active or exhausted immune response. The Exhausted Immune Class was characterized by enrichment of activated stroma and anti-inflammatory M2 macrophage signatures, WNT/transforming growth factor-ß signaling pathway activation and poor survival (all, P < 0.05). An enriched proinflammatory M1 macrophage signature, enhanced cytolytic activity, abundant tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, high human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, and favorable prognosis were associated with Active Immune Class (all, P < 0.05). The robustness of these immune molecular subgroups was verified in the validation cohorts, and Active Immune Class showed potential response to programmed cell death-1 blockade (P = 0.01). Conclusions: This study revealed a novel Immune Class in HNSC; two subclasses characterized by active or exhausted immune responses were also identified. These findings provide new insights into tailoring immunotherapeutic strategies for different HNSC subgroups.

RESUMO

Tea is a worldwide drink with controversial effect on bone health. The sex-specific associations are unrevealed among general population. This study showed that prolonged moderate tea consumption benefited bone health in women, while no additional benefit with stronger tea. However, tea consumption was not associated with bone health in men. INTRODUCTION: Tea consumption has been shown a potentially beneficial effect on bone health in postmenopausal women. However, little is known about such association in men, and whether stronger tea instead harms bone health due to elevated urinary excretion of calcium associated with caffeine in the tea. The aim of this study was to examine the association between various metrics of tea consumption and bone health. METHODS: The present study included 20,643 participants from the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB), who have finished both baseline survey (2004-2008) and a re-survey (2013-2014). They were aged 38-86 years at re-survey. Tea consumption was self-reported at both baseline and re-survey. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured using calcaneal quantitative ultrasound once at re-survey. RESULTS: Compared with non-consumers, prolonged weekly tea consumers in women was associated with higher calcaneus BMD measures, with ß (95% CI) of 0.98 (0.22, 1.74) for BUA, 4.68 (1.74, 7.61) for SOS, and 1.95 (0.81, 3.10) for SI. Among prolonged weekly tea consumers, no linear increase in BMD measures with the amount of tea leaves added was observed. The SOS and SI were higher in consumers with tea leaves 3.0-5.9 g/day than in those with < 3.0 g/day, but were reduced to non-significant for those with ≥ 6.0 g/day. Tea consumption was not associated with calcaneus BMD measures in men. CONCLUSION: Prolonged moderate tea consumption benefited bone health in women but not in men. For stronger tea consumption with more tea leaves added, neither benefit nor harm to bone health was observed.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the value and significance of the combination of 3D printing and spiral CT three-dimensional reconstruction in the diagnosis and treatment of common mandibular fractures. Method:Forty patients with mandibular fracture were collected. They were randomly divided into traditional operation group and 3D printing combined with three-dimensional reconstruction operation group. The differences between the two groups were compared according to the operation time and the recovery of fracture. Result:The operation time and trauma of 3D printing combined with three-dimensional reconstruction group were significantly better than those of traditional operation group, and the former was better than the latter (P<0.05). Conclusion: 3D printing combined with three-dimensional reconstruction operation method realized the concept of individualized, precise and minimally invasive comprehensive treatment, which is worthy of clinical promotion.

RESUMO

Aim: We aim to investigate the incidence and associated factors of vitamin D deficiency, a seldom reported factor, in patients with stages 1 and 2 chronic kidney disease (CKD) in southern China. Methods: We conducted a single-center observational study. Hospitalized patients over 14 years old, who were diagnosed with stages 1 and 2 CKD and had their serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25 (OH) D] measured, were included. Patients were divided into vitamin D deficient and non-deficient groups depending on the cutoff serum 25 (OH) D value of 37 nmol/L. Clinical and biochemical parameters were evaluated for associated factors of vitamin D deficiency by logistic regression. Results: A total of 118 patients were included, of which 62 (52.5%) were vitamin D insufficient and 47 (39.8%) were vitamin D deficient. Using multivariate binary logistic regression analysis, high serum level of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) (OR = 5.163; 95%CI, 1.105-24.130; P = 0.037), dyslipidemia (OR = 3.083; 95%CI, 1.029-9.243; P = 0.044), 24-hour urinary protein excretion (UPE) ≥3.5 g/24 hrs (OR = 5.010; 95%CI, 1.316-19.074; P = 0.018), and treatment with glucocorticoids (OR = 2.973; 95%CI, 1.093-8.084; P = 0.033) were independently associated with vitamin D deficiency. In addition, among different types of nephropathy, minimal change disease (MCD) had the highest incidence (85.7%) of vitamin D deficiency. Conclusion: Poor vitamin D status is common in patients with stages 1 and 2 CKD in southern China. The incidence of vitamin D deficiency is 39.8%. High serum GGT level, dyslipidemia, 24-hour UPE ≥3.5 g/24 hrs, and treatment with glucocorticoids are independent associated factors of vitamin D deficiency.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the DNA methylation sites correlated with blood pressure (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, pulse pressure) in adult twin population. METHODS: A total of 476 twins from the Chinese National Twin Registry were selected as the research population. Questionnaires were used to collect demographic characteristics, lifestyle, disease status and other information, and blood pressure, height, weight and other anthropometric indicators were measured. The genome-wide DNA methylation of whole blood samples was detected by using Infinium HumanMethylation450 BeadChip. The DNA methylation sites correlated with blood pressure were analyzed by constructing mixed effect model with adjusting potential confounding factors, and the significant level was false discovery rate <0.05. RESULTS: After data quality control, 465 twins (122 pairs of monozygotic twins, 104 pairs of dizygotic twins, 13 individuals from 13 pairs of twins) aged (44.8±13.2) years were finally enrolled. There were more males and more monozygotic twins, and the current smokers and current regular drinkers both accounted for more than 30%. No significant CpG site was found after multiple testing in the correlation study between genome-wide DNA methylation and blood pressure by using the collected twins. However, the cg07761116 located on chromosome 10 had low P value in the correlation analysis of 3 blood pressure indices (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure), suggesting that this site might be correlated with blood pressure. The other 7 sites had low P value in the correlation analysis of the two blood pressure indices, respectively, which pointed to genes involved in neurological development, protein homeostasis, inflammatory reaction and other pathways. CONCLUSION: There is no sufficient evidence to support any DNA methylation site correlated with blood pressure, which may be caused by insufficient sample size and other reasons. This study could provide a reference for subsequent similar twin studies, and subsequent studies can focus on the cg07761116 located on chromosome 10 and other sites with low P values.
