RESUMO

A PAM4-OCDM system with optical multi-/demultiplexing and electrical pre-/post-processing is proposed for short-reach applications. We experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, a power-efficient 4 OC x 10 GSymbol/s PAM4-OCDM system. The four PSK-OCs are simultaneously generated using a single light source and a passive multiport optical encoder and received by a single optical decoder and cascaded DSP. The effectiveness of the electrical-domain amplitude level pre-tuning and post-equalizer are demonstrated, considering different values of shot and beat noises.

RESUMO

One of the extraordinary aspects of nonlinear wave evolution which has been observed as the spontaneous occurrence of astonishing and statistically extraordinary amplitude wave is called rogue wave. We show that the eigenvalues of the associated equation of nonlinear Schrödinger equation are almost constant in the vicinity of rogue wave and we validate that optical rogue waves are formed by the collision between quasi-solitons in anomalous dispersion fiber exhibiting weak third order dispersion.

RESUMO

We studied the formation of bi-soliton pairs in Kerr-type stretched pulse fiber ring laser (SPFRL). By solving the modified Ginzburg-Landau (GL) equaition, which models the SPFRL, we show that anti-phase bi-soliton can be generated robustly if a low level Gaussian pulse is injected into the ring laser in the initial set-up stage. With the help of properly selected high order nonlinear gain coefficient, the observation of anti-phase bi-soliton pairs is expected to become feasible in experiments.

RESUMO

A novel hybrid all-optical mode-division multiplexing and code division multiplexing architecture for flexible and scalable access networks is presented. We successfully demonstrate, for the first time, an asynchronous on-off keying modulation, 2 mode x 4 code x 10 Gbps transmission over 42-km link, using a set of single-mode and two-mode fibers, without dispersion compensation. The four phase-shift keyed optical codes are generated at a single wavelength, by a multiport encoder/decoder, and we use an optical mode multiplexer/demultiplexer in the remote node and at the central office. We also experimentally evaluate the mode crosstalk tolerance considering different access span distances for the LP(01) and LP(11) modes.

RESUMO

A novel method for measuring optical fiber's nonlinear coefficient, based on phase mismatching four-wave mixing is proposed. Measurements for both high nonlinearity dispersion shifted fiber and low nonlinearity standard single mode fiber are demonstrated with simple setup. Chromatic dispersion is also measured with high precision simultaneously, and therefore its effect to the nonlinear coefficient measurement can be removed.

RESUMO

This paper proposes a novel bandwidth-elastic and energy-efficient passive optical network (PON) based on the coherent interleaved frequency division multiple access (IFDMA) scheme. We experimentally demonstrate the coherent IFDMA-PON uplink transmission up-to 30 Gbps over a 30 km standard single-mode fiber with 2 × optical network units (ONUs). A low-complexity digital carrier synchronization technique enables multiple access of the ONUs on the basis of 78.1 MHz narrow band orthogonal subcarriers without any guard-bands.

All-optical technique for modulation format conversion from 4 channels non-return-to-zero on-off-keying (OOK) to return-to-zero 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) employing nonlinear optical loop mirror with 1:2 coupler configuration is proposed and experimentally demonstrated at 10Gs/s. The experimentally converted 16QAM signal was distorted in its phase by cross-phase modulation induced amplitude-to-phase noise conversion. The effect of amplified spontaneous emission noise in the amplified OOK signals to the converted 16QAM's phase was theoretically discussed.

RESUMO

The emerging transparent optical networks, employing spectrally-efficient modulation formats require new methods for supervision of signal quality in the optical domain. In this paper we demonstrate the optical performance monitoring (OPM) of optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) and chromatic dispersion (CD) in return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (RZ-DPSK) signals using asynchronous delay-tap sampling and pattern recognition algorithms. We experimentally show noise measurement of OSNR from 8.7 dB to 32 dB with low optical input power requirement. Moreover, residual CD can be evaluated in the range from -600 to +600 ps/nm. The results indicate that careful adjustment of delay is necessary in order to ensure accurate measurement.

RESUMO

A novel all-optical modulation format conversion from non-return-to-zero on-off-keying (NRZ-OOK) to return-to-zero quadrature-phase-shift-keying (RZ-QPSK) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed format conversion scheme is based on parallel Mach-Zehnder interferometric (MZI) OOK/binary-PSK (BPSK) converters, consisting of integrated semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). We experimentally demonstrate that in both decoded channels of the converted RZ-QPSK signal bit error rate (BER) curves show almost the same receiver sensitivity at a symbol-rate of 10.7 Gsymbol/s. In addition, a reasonable dispersion tolerance of the converted signal up to +295 ps/nm is observed. The numerical simulation based upon carrier rate equation verifies the experimental results.

We propose an all-optical modulation format conversion scheme from non-return-to-zero on-off-keying (NRZ-OOK) to return-to-zero (RZ) multiple-level phase-shift-keying (PSK) based on nonlinearity in optical fiber. The proposed conversion scheme is numerically investigated and experimentally demonstrated. We experimentally demonstrate error-free operation of NRZ-OOK/RZ- binary PSK conversion at 10.7 Gb/s. The operation of the NRZ-OOK/RZ-quadrature PSK conversion is shown by eye opening after balanced receiving at a symbol rate of 10.7 Gsymbol/s. In addition, we demonstrate the feasibility of the modulation format conversion from NRZ-OOK to RZ-8-levels PSK by numerical simulation.

RESUMO

We propose a novel all-optical tunable delay line based on soliton self-frequency shift and filtering broadened spectrum due to self-phase modulation to compensate for the frequency shift. We experimentally demonstrate the proposed all-optical tunable delay line and achieve a continuous temporal shift up to 19.2 ps for 0.5 ps pulse, corresponding to a delay-to-pulse-width ratio of 38.4.

We experimentally demonstrate an all-optical tunable delay line based on slow and fast light using soliton collision in an optical fiber. By varying the amplitude, wavelength, and number of the control soliton pulses, we accomplish both distortion-less slow and fast light generation and achieve the consecutive temporal shift up to 7.3ps for a 4.1ps-width pulse, which corresponds to the maximum delay-to-pulse-width ratio of 1.8.

RESUMO

We review various methods used to study the dispersion managed soliton for nonlinear return-to-zero pulse propagation in optical fibers. A numerical averaging method, the guiding center soliton, the variational method both with a simple and with an extended ansatz, as well as the multiscale theory are discussed and numerically compared, allowing us to show their domains of applicability.
