RESUMO

A new strategy to enhance the room temperature phosphorescence performance has been developed through hexanuclear Zn(II)-cluster-induced dense π-stacking in a metal-organic framework matrix. The synergistic effect of metal clusters and large overlap of π-conjugated dimers facilitate the phosphorescence emission, migration, and separation of charge carriers for excellent photocatalytic activity.

RESUMO

Highly dense packing of chromophoric linkers is achieved in a novel pyrene-based metal-organic framework (MOF), [Zn(TBAPy)1/2(H2O)2], induced by an ionic liquid. This MOF displays a quick response to visible-light irradiation (photocurrent density of up to 4.492 µA cm-2) and is capable of repetitive on-off photocurrent switching with a large on-off ratio (37.55).

RESUMO

Schisandrin B (SchB) is an active compound extracted from the Chinese herb Schisandra chinensis and shows excellent anti-inflammatory activity. This study was performed to examine the effects of SchB in a rat model of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). IgAN was established in Sprague-Dawley rats by immunization with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), bovine serum albumin, and carbon tetrachloride. Renal function was evaluated by determining the levels of urinary red blood cells, proteinuria, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatinine (Cr). Renal tissue and protein samples were collected for further analysis. Pre-treatment and treatment with SchB significantly ameliorated renal function of IgAN rats, which was evidenced by decreased levels of proteinuria, hematuria, BUN, and Cr. IgAN rats exhibited increased serum IgA, renal IgA deposition, mesangial cell proliferation, and inflammatory cell infiltration, which were significantly attenuated by intervention with SchB. Moreover, SchB inhibited infiltration of CD3+ and CD11b+ cells, decreased levels of tumour necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1ß, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 in the kidney, and decreased the numbers of CD3+CD69+ cells in the spleen. Of note, SchB therapy significantly increased cytoplasmic p65 and IκB expression and decreased nuclear p65 levels both in the damaged renal tissue and LPS-stimulated HK-2 cells, indicating a direct inhibitory effect on the NF-κB pathway in IgAN rats. Taken together, our data provide insight into a new application of SchB for the treatment of IgAN and represent a novel mechanism behind these effects.

RESUMO

A water-stable cationic MOF could be used as a single crystal container to capture Cr(vi)-oxyanions via ion exchange with high capacity and selectivity. It is the first report that demonstrates that CrO42- ions could be traced and confirmed via a single-crystal to single-crystal (SC-SC) pattern.

RESUMO

Droplet microfluidics has been widely applied in functional microparticles fabricating, tissue engineering, and drug screening due to its high throughput and great controllability. However, most of the current droplet microfluidics are dependent on water-in-oil (W/O) systems, which involve organic reagents, thus limiting their broader biological applications. In this work, a new microfluidic strategy is described for controllable and high-throughput generation of monodispersed water-in-water (W/W) droplets. Solutions of polyethylene glycol and dextran are used as continuous and dispersed phases, respectively, without any organic reagents or surfactants. The size of W/W droplets can be precisely adjusted by changing the flow rate of dispersed and continuous phases and the valve switch cycle. In addition, uniform cell-laden microgels are fabricated by introducing the alginate component and rat pancreatic islet (ß-TC6) cell suspension to the dispersed phase. The encapsulated islet cells retain high viability and the function of insulin secretion after cultivation for 7 days. The high-throughput droplet microfluidic system with high biocompatibility is stable, controllable, and flexible, which can boost various chemical and biological applications, such as bio-oriented microparticles synthesizing, microcarriers fabricating, tissue engineering, etc.

RESUMO

In the current study, we scrutinized the effect of sevoflurane and halothane on cognitive and immune function in young rats. The rats were divided into following groups: sevoflurane, halothane and sevoflurane + halothane groups, respectively. The rats were regularly treated with the pre-determined treatment. We also scrutinized the serum proinflammatory cytokines including IL-10, IL-4 and IL-2; brain level IL-1ß; hippocampal neuronal apoptosis concentration were estimated. The water maze test was performed in rats for the estimation of cognitive ability. During the water maze test, on the 1st day the sevoflurane group showed the latency; sevoflurane and sevoflurane + halothane group demonstrated the declined latency gradually as compared to the control group rats after the 3 days. The latency of the control, halothane, sevoflurane + halothane group rats showed the reduced latency and also showed the reduced crossing circle times. The hippocampal neuron apoptosis was significantly increased in halothane and sevoflurane + halothane group as compared to control group rats, respectively. Control group rats demonstrated the increased neuron apoptosis. The proinflammatory cytokines including IL-10 and IL-4 was significantly higher in sevoflurane, halothane and sevoflurane + halothane group rats after anesthesia and the whole brain IL-1ß was significantly decrease in the sevoflurane, halothane and sevoflurane + halothane as compared to control group. Sevoflurane can inhibit the anesthesia effect of halothane on the immune and cognitive function of rats.

RESUMO

Two pH-stable luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs), {[Ln2(L)2(OH)(HCOO)]·[H2O]}n (Ln = Eu 1, Tb 2), based on a new π-conjugated organic building block involving both carboxylate and terpyridine groups were rationally synthesized under a combination of hydro/solvothermal and ionothermal conditions (H2L = 4'-(4-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)phenyl)-4,2':6',4''-terpyridine). 1 and 2 are isostructural and feature noninterpenetrated open 3D condensed frameworks constructed by rod-shaped lanthanide-carboxylate building units. Their excellent water-stability and pH-stability allow them to be used in aquatic systems. 1 and 2 both exhibit selective and sensitive aqueous phase detection of the well-known nitroaromatic explosive environmental pollutant 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP), which is highly desirable for practical applications. The presence of a free pyridine group on the LMOF particle surface was strategically utilized for the purpose of exclusive TNP-sensing.

RESUMO

Objective: To observe the influence of excessive fluoride on the levels of osteocalcin and testosterone in the testis of the male mouse. METHODS: Twenty-four C57BL/6J male mice were equally randomized into a normal control and a fluorosis model group, the former fed on distilled water while the latter on a solution of sodium fluoride (100 mg/L) in distilled water, both for 12 weeks. Then, the level of osteocalcin in the testis tissue was measured with the immunohistochemical streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) method and those of osteocalcin and testosterone in the serum determined by ELISA. RESULTS: After 12 weeks of fluoride intervention, the level of serum osteocalcin was significantly higher in the fluorosis models than in the normal controls (ï¼»68.05 ± 5.32ï¼½ vs ï¼»47.50 ± 5.73ï¼½ pg/mL, F = 11.901, P = 0.008), while that of testosterone markedly lower in the former than the latter group (ï¼»8.07 ± 1.35ï¼½ vs ï¼»12.94 ± 3.09ï¼½ ng/mL, F = 2.313, P = 0.006). The results of immunohistochemical SP showed the expression of osteocalcin in the cell membrane and cytoplasm of the fluorosis models, which was evidently higher than in the normal controls. CONCLUSIONS: Twelve-week intake of 100 mg/L fluoride solution can decrease the level of testosterone and increase the expression of osteocalcin in the testis of the male mouse.

RESUMO

Seven Mn(ii) coordination polymers, namely {[Mn2(ptptp)Cl2(H2O)3]·H2O}n (1), {[Mn(µ-ptptp)3]2[Mn3(µ3-Cl)]2}·2Cl·16H2O (2), {[Mn2(ptptp)(ip)2(H2O)3]·H2O}n (3), {[Mn2(ptptp)(5-CH3-ip)2(H2O)3]·H2O}n (4), {[Mn4(ptptp)(5-Br-ip)3(H2O)3]·4H2O}n (5), {[Mn2(ptptp)(Hbtc)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n (6) and {[Mn2(ptptp)(tdc)(H2O)2]·1.5H2O}n (7), have been prepared based on multidentate N-heterocyclic aromatic ligands and bridging carboxylate ligands (H2ptptp = 2-(5-{6-[5-(pyrazin-2-yl)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]pyridin-2-yl}-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)pyrazine; R-isophthalic acids, H2ip-R: R = -H (3), -CH3 (4), -Br (5); H3btc = trimesic acid (6); H2tdc = thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (7)), in order to further probe the multiple roles of [RMI]Br ionic liquids in the hydro/solvothermal synthesis (RMI = 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium, R = ethyl, or propyl, or butyl). The successful syntheses of complexes 2-6 suggest that in hydro/solvothermal synthesis the addition of a small amount of [RMI]Br plays a crucial role. Complex 1 exhibits single right-handed helices constructed by ptptp ligands and Mn(ii) ions. Complex 2 possesses octanuclear helicate structures in which two propeller-shaped [Mn(µ-ptptp)3](4-) units embrace two [Mn3(µ3-Cl)](5+) cluster cores inside. Complexes 3 and 4 are isostructural and display a 1D double chain formed by two kinds of pseudo meso-helices: (Mn-ptptp)n and (Mn-5-R-ip)n. Complex 5 has a 2D structure containing 1D Mn(ii) ion chains formed through carboxylates and [ptptp](2-)-N,N bridges. Complex 6 shows a 2D structure formed by a meso-helix (Mn-ptptp)n and the partly deprotonated Hbtc ligands. Complex 7 features a heterochiral [2 + 2] coaxially nested double-helical column formed by using the outer double-helices (Mn-ptptp)n as a template to encapsulate the inner double-helices (Mn-tdc)n with opposite orientation. All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray crystallography and powder X-ray diffraction. The magnetic properties of 1-7 were also investigated.

RESUMO

Reactions of lanthanide nitrate, 1,3,5-benzenetrisbenzoic acid (H3BTB) and [RMI]Br ionic liquids (RMI = 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium; R = ethyl, propyl, butyl, amyl, or hexyl), gave rise to two novel lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) [Ln(BTB)H2O], where Ln = Eu , Tb . In addition to helping solubilise the starting materials under the reaction conditions there is evidence that [RMI]Br itself can play a structure directing role and is intimately involved in template ordering in [Ln(BTB)H2O], even though neither the [RMI](+) cation nor the Br(-) anion is occluded into the ultimate structure. and are isostructural and consist of infinite rod-shaped lanthanide-carboxylate building units which are further bridged by trigonal-planar BTB ligands to give noninterpenetrated open 3D frameworks featuring a (6,6)-connected topology with the point symbol (4(4)·6(7)·8(4))(4(8)·6(7)). Importantly, the strong emission of and dispersed in water prompted us to explore their application for detection of different nitroaromatics in an aquatic system. and show similar selectivity and sensitivity towards the presence of trace amounts of nitroaromatic analytes in the aqueous phase, showing potential as explosive sensors.

RESUMO

A novel discrete open high-nuclearity nest-like silver thiolate cluster complex, [Ag33 S3 (StBu)16 (CF3 COO)9 (NO3 )(CH3 CN)2 ](NO3 ) (1), has been isolated with nitrate and S(2-) anions acting as structure-directing templates. Its similar nest-like structure has been assembled into an extended layer [Ag31 S3 (StBu)16 (NO3 )9 ]n (2) by adjustment of auxiliary ligand. More interestingly, both complexes exhibit temperature-dependent luminescence of high sensitivity with a large fluorescence enhancement (12-fold for 1, 21-fold for 2), which can be easily recognized by the naked-eye (dramatic red-shift Δ=104 nm for 1, larger Δ=113 nm for 2 at 77 K compared to those at 298 K). The correlation between luminescent thermochromism and temperature-dependent variation of the coordination modes of template NO3 (-) anion, Ag⋅⋅⋅S and Ag⋅⋅⋅Ag distances are also elucidated through variable-temperature single-crystal X-ray crystal structure (VT-SCXRD) analyses.

RESUMO

In this study, a novel generic hapten of phenothiazine drugs was synthesized by derivatization of 2-chlorophenothiazine with sodium bromoacetate. Then the hapten was coupled to bovine serum albumin for production of the monoclonal antibody. Results showed that the obtained monoclonal antibody recognized five phenothiazine drugs simultaneously: chlorpromazine, promethazine, acepromazine, perphenazine, and fluphenazine. After evaluation of different coating antigens, a heterologous competitive indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was developed to determine the residues of the five phenothiazine drugs in swine tissues (muscle, liver, and kidney). The cross-reactivities to the five analytes were in the range of 71 to 98%, and the limits of detection were in the range of 0.2 to 0.4 ng/ml, depending on the drug. Their recoveries from the fortified blank samples were in the range of 73.8 to 96.2%, with coefficients of variation in the range of 4.1 to 14.3%. This is the first study reporting a broad specific immunoassay for multi-determination of the residues of five phenothiazine drugs in animal-derived foods.

RESUMO

Five new Mn(II) coordination polymers, namely [Mn(2)(tbip)(2)(bix)] (1), [Mn(3)(tbip)(3)(bix)(2)] (2), [Mn(3)(tbip)(2)(Htbip)(2)(bib)(2)]·4H(2)O (3), [Mn(4)(tbip)(4)(bbp)(2)(H(2)O)(2)] (4), and [Mn(4)(tbip)(4)(bip)]·2H(2)O (5), were prepared by hydrothermal reactions of Mn(II) acetate with H(2)tbip (5-tert-butyl isophthalic acid) in the presence of different di-imidazolyl coligands (bix =1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, bib =1,4-bis(imidazol) butane, bbp =1,3-bis(benzimidazol)propane, bip =1,3-bis(imidazol)propane). All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray crystallography, and powder X-ray diffraction. Single crystal X-ray studies show that these coordination polymers contain homometallic clusters varying from dimeric, trimeric, and tetrameric motifs to polymeric chains depending upon the coligands used. Complex 1 has a 3D 6-connected polycatenane network with dinuclear [Mn(2)O(2)] secondary building units. Complex 2 possesses a 3D 8-connected structure with trinuclear [Mn(3)(COO)(6)] units. Complex 3 shows a 3D pcu net based on trinuclear [Mn(3)(COO)(6)] clusters as nodes. Complex 4 features a 3D 8-connected structure constructed from the distorted square-grid tetranuclear [Mn(4)(µ(2)-COO)(8)(µ(2)-H(2)O)] units. Complex 5 shows a 3D (4,5,6)-connected net containing 1D µ-O/µ-COO alternately bridged chains. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate that complexes 1 and 3-5 show weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the adjacent Mn(II) ions, whereas 2 is a three-spin center homometallic ferromagnetic system.

RESUMO

This paper demonstrates the embellishment of existing microfluidic devices with integrated three dimensional (3D) micronanostructures via femtosecond laser micronanofabrication, which, for the first time, proves two-photon photopolymerization (TPP) to be a powerful technology for chip functionalization. As representative examples, microsieves with various pore shape and adjustable pore size were successfully fabricated inside a conventional glass-based microfluidic channel prepared by wet etching for microparticle separation. Moreover, a fish scale like microfilter was also fabricated and appointed as a one-way valve, which showed excellent performance as we expected. These results indicate that such embellishment of microfluidic devices is simple, low cost, flexible and easy to access. We believe that, combined with TPP, the application of lab-on-chip devices would be further extended.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of transforming growth factor-beta1/integrin-linked kinase (TGF-beta1/ILK) signal way in interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta)-induced rat tubular epithelial-myofibroblast transdifferentiation (TEMT), and to investigate whether emodin inhibits IL-1beta-induced TEMT through the TGF-beta1/ILK signal way-dependent mechanism. METHODS: Normal rat kidney epithelial cell line (NRK52E) was used in this study. NRK52E cells were divided into blank control group, emodin control group, IL-1beta-induced group, emodin-inhibited group, SB431542 (TGF-beta 1 type I receptor blocker)-inhibited group, emodin plus SB431542-inhibited group, emodin-pretreated group and emodin-reversed group. After 48-hour culture, morphological changes of the NRK52E cells were observed by an inverted phase contrast microscope. The expressions of alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) and E-cadherin were detected by two-color immunohistochemical staining, while the expressions of TGF-beta1 and ILK were detected by one-color immunohistochemical staining. We also performed the imaging analysis to quantitatively analyze the result of the immunohistochemical staining. The secretion of fibronectin (FN) was analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: Compared with the blank control group, IL-1beta might induce TEMT, which was showed in increasing expression of alpha-SMA, increasing secreting of FN and decreasing expression of E-cadherin, and at the same time the expressions of TGF-beta1 and ILK were enhanced (P<0.05). Emodin might inhibit all of those changes induced by IL-1beta (P<0.05). When TGF-beta1 signal way was intercepted, IL-1beta induced-TEMT was suppressed and the expression of ILK was decreased, however, there was no significant difference in expression of TGF-beta1 between the SB431542 group and the IL-1beta-induced group. Compared with emodin-inhibited group, emodin-pretreatment could not prevent IL-1beta induced-TEMT in a certain extent, but emodin could not revert IL-1beta-induced TEMT. Spearman correlation analysis showed that TGF-beta1 expression had positive correlation with expressions of alpha-SMA, FN, ILK and negative correlation with E-cadherin expression, and the expression of ILK was positively correlated with the expressions of alpha-SMA and FN and negatively correlated with E-cadherin expression. CONCLUSION: IL-1beta induces TEMT partly depending on TGF-beta1/ILK signal way, partly via which emodin inhibits the TEMT induced by IL-1beta.

RESUMO

The title compound, C(4)H(2)N(4)S(4), lies about a twofold rotation axis situated at the mid-point of the central S-S bond. Each of two thia-diazole rings is essentially planar, with an rms deviation for the unique thia-diazole ring plane of 0.0019 (7) Å. C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds link adjacent mol-ecules, forming zigzag chains along the c axis. In addition, these chains are connected by inter-molecular S⋯S inter-actions [S⋯S = 3.5153 (11) Å] , forming corrugated sheets, and further fabricate a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure by inter-molecular N⋯S contacts [S⋯N = 3.1941 (17) Å].

RESUMO

In the title compound, [CoCl(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2)S)(2)](n), the Co(II) atom is located on an inversion centre and is six-coordinated by four N atoms of four symmetry-related di-4-pyridyl sulfide ligands, and two Cl atoms in trans positions, in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The bridging bidentate di-4-pyridyl sulfide ligands link the Co(II) centres into a three-dimensional network. The four coordinating pyridine groups are donors and acceptors (N atoms) for intra-molecular C-H⋯N and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

RESUMO

In the title compound, {[Cu(C(8)H(10)N(4)S(4))(3)](ClO(4))(2)}(n), the Cu(II) atom is located on a threefold inversion axis coordinated by six N atoms of symmetry-equivalent 2,2'-(butane-1,4-diyl-dithio)bis-(1,3,4-thia-diazole) ligands in a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. Adjacent Cu(II) atoms are linked by the bridging bidentate thia-diazole ligands, which are situated about inversion centers. This leads to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure.
