Objective: This study aims to explore the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and texture analysis (TA) in the differential diagnosis of ovarian granulosa cell tumors (OGCTs) and thecoma-fibrothecoma (OTCA-FTCA). Methods: The preoperative MRI data of 32 patients with OTCA-FTCA and 14 patients with OGCTs, confirmed by pathological examination between June 2013 and August 2020, were retrospectively analyzed. The texture data of three-dimensional MRI scans based on T2-weighted imaging and clinical and conventional MRI features were analyzed and compared between tumor types. The Mann-Whitney U-test, χ 2 test/Fisher exact test, and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to identify differences between the OTCA-FTCA and OGCTs groups. A regression model was established by using binary logistic regression analysis, and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was carried out to evaluate diagnostic efficiency. Results: A multivariate analysis of the imaging-based features combined with TA revealed that intratumoral hemorrhage (OR = 0.037), log-sigma-20mm-3D_glszm_SmallAreaEmphasis (OR = 4.40), and log-sigma-2-0mm-3D_glszm_SmallAreaHighGrayLevelEmphasis (OR = 1.034) were independent features for discriminating between OGCTs and OTCA-FTCA (P < 0.05). An imaging-based diagnosis model, TA-based model, and combination model were established. The areas under the curve of the three models in predicting OGCTs and OTCA-FTCA were 0.935, 0.944, and 0.969, respectively; the sensitivities were 93.75, 93.75, and 96.87%, respectively; and the specificities were 85.71, 92.86, and 92.86%, respectively. The DeLong test indicated that the combination model had the highest predictive efficiency (P < 0.05), with no significant difference among the three models in differentiating between OGCTs and OTCA-FTCA (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Compared with OTCA-FTCA, intratumoral hemorrhage may be characteristic MR imaging features with OGCTs. Texture features can reflect the microheterogeneity of OGCTs and OTCA-FTCA. MRI signs and texture features can help differentiate between OGCTs and OTCA-FTCA and provide a more comprehensive and accurate basis for clinical treatment.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) has high incidence globally and is frequently accompanied by subsequent cognitive decline. Accurate early risk-categorization of SCI patients for cognitive decline using biomarkers can enable the timely application of appropriate neuroprotective measures and the development of new agents for the management of SCI-associated cognitive decline. Neuropeptide FF is an endogenous neuropeptide with a multitude of functions and is associated with neuroinflammatory processes. This prospective study investigated the predictive value of serum neuropeptide FF levels measured after acute SCI for subsequent cognitive decline. Methods: 88 patients presenting with acute SCI without preexisting neurological injury, brain trauma, or severe systemic illness and 60 healthy controls were recruited. Serum neuropeptide FF levels, clinical, and routine laboratory variables including low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, fasting blood glucose, total triiodothyronine (TT3), total thyroxine (TT4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels collected from all subjects were assessed. Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) was performed 3 months after enrollment. SCI patients were grouped according to quartile of serum neuropeptide FF level and MoCA scores were compared using ANOVA. Additionally, multivariate linear regression with clinical and laboratory variables was performed to predict MoCA scores. Results: SCI patients displayed significantly higher baseline serum neuropeptide FF levels than healthy controls (38.5 ± 4.1 versus 23.4 ± 2.0 pg/ml, p < 0.001∗∗). SCI patients in higher quartiles of baseline serum neuropeptide FF displayed significantly lower MoCA scores at 3 months. Linear regression analysis indicated serum neuropeptide FF levels as a significant independent predictor of worse MoCA scores after SCI (r = 0.331, p = 0.034∗). Conclusion: Early serum neuropeptide FF levels significantly and independently predicted cognitive decline after acute SCI among patients without preexisting neurological disorders.

The study aimed to investigate whether the incidence rate of external auditory canal (EAC) fracture varies among different clinical types of condylar fracture. A retrospective cohort study was conducted in single hospital of China. Eligible patients diagnosed with mandibular condylar fractures were retrospectively reviewed. Among all patients with condylar fractures (318 cases and 437 sides), 45 cases and 59 sides (59/437 sides, 13.5%) were found with EAC fracture, including 17(17/38, 44.7%) sides of sagittal fracture of condyle (Type I), 21(21/59, 35.6%) sides of intracapsular condylar fracture (Type II), 8 (8/306, 2.6%) sides of condylar neck fracture (Type III), and 6 (6/34, 17.7%) sides of condylar base fracture (Type IV). Type III condylar fracture had a significant lower rate of EAC fracture than all other three types (all p<0.001). Type I condylar fracture had a higher rate of EAC fracture compared to Type IV (p=0.014). The incidence rates of EAC fracture in combined Type I+Type II group (38/97, 39.2%) was significantly higher than Type III (8/306,2.6%, p<0.001) and Type IV (6/34,17.7%, p=0.002). A total of 35 sides (27 patients) with combined fractures were followed up for 6 months after treatment, among whom 11 sides (7 patients) were operated for both fractures simultaneously. Neither EAC stenosis nor hearing loss was observed. Meanwhile, for 24 non-operated ears from 20 patients, all EACs showed different degrees of stenosis. In conclusion, oral and maxillofacial surgeons should pay more attention to EAC fracture combined with condylar fracture, especially for patients diagnosed with condylar head fracture. Maxillofacial fractures should be accompanied by early treatment of EAC fractures, in order to prevent EAC stenosis, hearing loss, and other complications.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of high-quality nursing on psychological status and prognosis of patients undergoing brain tumor surgery. METHODS: One hundred and ten patients undergoing brain tumor surgery were divided into control group (n=55, receiving routine nursing) and observation group (n=55, receiving high-quality nursing). The psychological status (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD)), quality of life (Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 Scale (GQOLI-74)), prognosis (Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS)), self-efficacy (Strategies Used by People to Promote Health Scale (SUPPH)) and complications of patients in both groups were recorded and compared. RESULTS: After intervention, scores of HAMA and HAMD in both groups decreased, while scores of GOS, GQOLI-74 and SUPPH in both groups increased (all P<0.05). Compared with the control group, scores of HAMA and HAMD in the observation group were lower after intervention, while scores of GOS, GQOLI-74 and SUPPH were higher (all P<0.05). There was no significant difference in mortality between the two groups (P>0.05). The overall complication rate in the observation group was lower than that in the control group during hospitalization (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Perioperative high-quality nursing for patients undergoing brain tumor surgery can significantly alleviate the adverse psychological states, reduce the complication rate and improve the postoperative self-efficacy and quality of life.

Plant-derived natural active products have attracted increasing attention for use in flavors and perfumes. These compounds also have applications in insect pest control because of their environment-friendly properties. Holy basil (Ocimum sanctum), a famous herb used in Ayurveda in India, is a natural source of medical healing agents and insecticidal repellents. Despite the available genomic sequences and genome-wide bioinformatic analysis of terpene synthase genes, the functionality of the sesquiterpene genes involved in the unique fragrance and insecticidal activities of holy basil are largely unknown. In this study, we systematically screened the sesquiterpenoid genes in this plant using a precursor-providing yeast system. The enzymes that synthesize ß-caryophyllene and its close isomer α-humulene were successfully identified. The enzymatic product of OsaTPS07 was characterized by in vivo mining, in vitro reaction, and NMR detection. This product was revealed as (-)-eremophilene. We created a mutant yeast strain that can achieve a high-yield titer by adjusting the gene copy number and FPP precursor enhancement. An optimized two-stage fed-batch fermentation method achieved high biosynthetic capacity, with a titer of 34.6 g/L cyclic sesquiterpene bioproduction in a 15-L bioreactor. Further insect-repelling assays demonstrated that (-)-eremophilene repelled the insect pest, fall leafworm, suggesting the potential of (-)-eremophilene as an alternative to synthetic chemicals for agricultural pest control. This study highlights the potential of our microbial platform for the bulk mining of plant-derived ingredients and provides an impressive cornerstone for their industrial utilization.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between serum iron(Fe) and the overall survival of oral cancer. METHODS: Patients with oral cancer who met the inclusion criteria in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University from January 2010 to April 2017 were collected. The average age was(57.12±13.94) years old, including 489 males(65.46%), 258 females(34.54%) and 564 cases of squamous cell carcinoma(77.90%). Overall survival rates were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Survival difference was compared by log-rank test. Cox regression model was used to estimate the hazard ratio(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(95%CIs). RESULTS: The distributions of serum iron level were non-normal distribution(P<0.001), and the serum iron level is expressed as 13.9(10.3, 17.8)µmol/L in M(P25, P75). According to X-tile, the optimal cut-off value of serum iron was 15.3 µmol/L, used as a criterion to group patients. The result showed that the mortality risk of patients with oral cancer in high serum iron level(Fe>15.3 µmol/L) was 0.72 times of patients in lower one(Fe≤15.3 µmol/L)(95%CI 0.52-0.99). Stratified analysis suggested that serum iron was a good predictor of patients with oral cancer aged 60 years(HR=0.62, 95%CI 0.39-0.99), male(HR=0.66, 95%CI 0.44-0.98), with TNM stage I-II(HR=0.42, 95%CI 0.20-0.88) and squamous cell of pathological type(HR=0.69, 95%CI 0.49-0.97). CONCLUSION: Serum iron is closely related to the overall survival of oral cancer, patients with high serum iron have a lower risk of death.

AIM: To investigate the relationship between TMEM16A and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS: 96 patients with CRC that were confirmed by pathology after being operated on at the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University between June 2009 and December 2011 were enrolled and followed up upon. The expression of TMEM16A protein in CRC was detected by immunohistochemistry in 96 cases. The relationship between the expression of TMEM16A protein in CRC and the clinical features and clinical prognosis were analyzed. RESULTS: 1. There was no correlation between the TMEM16A protein expression and gender, age, or tumor location, size, and degree of differentiation (P>0.05). However, the expression of TMEM16A protein was significantly associated with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, and the Dukes stage (P<0.05). 2. Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that CRC patients with high expressions of TMEM16A protein had poorer overall survival compared with those having low expression levels (68.2% vs. 92.3%, X2=9.892, P = 0.002). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that upregulation of TMEM16A protein expression is an independent predictive factor for poor prognosis in patients with CRC (P<0.05, RR=6.467, 95% CI: 1.777- 23.538). CONCLUSIONS: The expression of TMEM16A protein in CRC was associated with tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis, and the Dukes stage. High expression of TMEM16A protein in CRC can be identified as an independent predictive factor for the poor prognosis of patients with CRC.

Atomically thin two-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is well known for its excellent lubrication characteristics and is usually used as a solid lubricant in diverse micro/nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS). The friction on atomically thin MoS2 deposited on a SiO2/Si substrate is reduced almost five times to achieve an ultra-low friction state (coefficient of friction nearly 0.0045) by rubbing the surface with an AFM tip under the electric field. The electric field leads to a shift and accumulation of charges at the interface between MoS2 and the SiO2/Si substrate. Then, electronic tight-binding with high interfacial bonding strength is experimentally found by the charges transferring during the rubbing process. The ultra-low friction state of atomically thin MoS2 could attribute to the electronic tight-binding between MoS2 and the SiO2/Si substrate, which suppresses the atomic-scale deformation and limits the local pinning capability of MoS2. The ultra-low friction state on atomically thin MoS2 is patterned further by controllably regulating position, time, and electric field during the rubbing process. This approach can provide an additional channel to achieve ultra-low friction on MoS2 related two-dimensional materials with semiconductor properties. The nanopatterning of ultra-low friction could promote and expand engineering applications of MoS2 as lubricants in various MEMS/NEMS with nano-scale components.

Phenalenyl (PLY) and its derivatives could form one-dimensional π-aggregates through pancake π-π bonding, which would lead to exotic optoelectronic properties. We will highlight the key aspects of the PLY derivatives from the design strategies to exploration of the electronic properties. Here, we primarily construct alternating boron (B)- and nitrogen (N)-doped PLY π-aggregates: dimer[12], trimer[12-1], trimer[12-2], tetramer[12]2, pentamer[12]2-1, pentamer[12]2-2, and hexamer[12]3. The geometric and electronic structures show that the short intermolecular distances of the π-aggregates drive the formation of pancake π-π bonding. Significantly, the molecular structures show periodic changes in the π-aggregates, but the first hyperpolarizabilities (ßtot) present unexpected changes, which are found to increase sharply with increasing even layer thickness due to intermolecular charge transfer. The ßtot value of hexamer[12]3 (5.72 × 104 a.u.) is 6.4 times that of tetramer[12]2 (8.95 × 103 a.u.), and is 22.4 times that of dimer[12] (2.55 × 103 a.u.). Thus, constructing π-aggregates can significantly improve the second-order NLO response, which is mainly due to intermolecular charge transfer through pancake π-π bonding of the interlayers.

Polymer electrolytes have gained extensive attention owing to their high flexibility, easy processibility, intrinsic safety, and compatibility with current fabrication technologies. However, their low ionic conductivity and lithium transference number have largely impaired their real application. Herein, novel two-dimensional clay nanosheets with abundant cation vacancies are created and incorporated in a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)-blended polymer-based electrolyte. The characterization and simulation results reveal that the cation vacancies not only provide lithium ions with additional Lewis acid-base interaction sites but also protect the PEO chains from being oxidized by excess lithium ions, which enhances the dissociation of lithium salts and the hopping mechanism of lithium ions. Benefiting from this, the polymer electrolyte shows a high ionic conductivity of 2.6 × 10-3 S cm-1 at 27 °C, a large Li+ transference number up to 0.77, and a wide electrochemical stability window of 4.9 V. Furthermore, the LiFePO4∥Li coin cell with such a polymer electrolyte delivers a high specific capacity of 145 mA h g-1 with an initial Coulombic efficiency of 99.9% and a capacity retention of 97.3% after 100 cycles at ambient temperature, as well as a superior rate performance. When pairing with high-voltage cathodes LiCoO2 and LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, the corresponding cells also exhibit favorable electrochemical stability and a high capacity retention. In addition, the LiFePO4∥Li pouch cells display high safety even under rigorous conditions including corner-cut, bending, and nail-penetration.

Background: In recent years frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) has played an increasingly important role in ART, but there is limited consensus on the most effective method of endometrial preparation (EP) for FET. Inspired by significantly higher implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate of the depot GnRH-a protocol, we proposed a novel EP protocol named down-regulation ovulation-induction (DROI) aimed to improve pregnancy outcomes of FET. Methods: This was a single-center, randomized controlled pilot trial. A total of 307 patients with freeze-all strategy scheduled for first FET were enrolled in the study. A total 261 embryos were transferred in DROI-FET group including 156 patients and 266 embryos were transferred in mNC-FET group including 151 patients. Reproductive outcomes were compared between the two groups. Results: The basic characteristics of patients, and the average number, quality and stage of embryos transferred were comparable between the two groups. Our primary outcome, implantation rate(IR) in DROI-FET group, was significantly higher than that of the mNC-FET group (54.41% versus 35.71%, P<0.01). The clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) and ongoing pregnancy rate (OPR) in DROI-FET group was also higher than that in mNC-FET group (69.87% versus 50.33%, P<0.01; 64.10% versus 42.38%, P<0.01). Conclusions: Compared to existing endometrial preparation methods, the DROI protocol might be the more efficient and promising protocol.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the potential relationship between oral hygiene and the risk of oral cancer and its subtypes after controlling the effects of several confounding factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A large-scale case-control study was conducted from January 2010 to August 2019, recruiting a total of 1,288 oral cancer cases with newly diagnosed and 4,234 healthy controls. Propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) were utilized to minimize confounding effects. Conditional logistic regression was used to evaluate the effects of oral hygiene indicators on oral cancer. RESULTS: A composite oral hygiene score was developed based on five indicators selected based on PSM and IPTW analysis (including tooth loss, dentures wearing, the frequency of tooth brushing, regular dental visits, and recurrent dental ulcer). Participants with a higher score, compared with their lower counterparts, showed a 49% increased risk (the odds ratio (OR) was 1.49 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.26-1.75). A similar association pattern was found following IPTW analyses (OR = 1.32; 95% CI: 1.22-1.42). Of note, the adverse effects of poor oral hygiene were more evident among the sites of gingival and buccal (PSM analysis: 2.03-fold and 2.68-fold increased risk; IPTW analysis: 1.57-fold and 2.07-fold increased risk, respectively). Additionally, a greater positive association was observed between poor oral hygiene and oral squamous cell carcinoma, compared with other pathological types. CONCLUSION: This study establishes a composite oral hygiene score and provides supportive evidence of poor oral hygiene associated with a higher risk of oral cancer, particularly in the gingival and buccal mucosa sites and in the squamous cell carcinoma. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The data highlights the importance of improving poor oral hygiene habits, which has public health implications for the prevention of oral cancer.

Leukopenia is a common manifestation of many diseases, including global outbreak SAS-CoV-2 infection. Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM -CSF) has been proved to be effective in promoting lymphocyte regeneration, but adverse immunological effects have also emerged. This study aim to investigate the effect of GM -CSF on BCR heavy chain CDR3 repertoire while promoting lymphocyte regeneration. Cyclophosphamide (CTX) and GM -CSF were used to inhibit and stimulate bone marrow hematopoiesis, respectively. High throughput sequencing was applied to detect the characteristics of BCR CDR3 repertoire in controls, CTX group and GM -CSF group. The white blood cells (WBCs) were quickly reduced (P < 0.05) with lymphocytes decreasing causing by CTX, and the WBCs and lymphocytes returned to the level of controls after GM -CSF treatment. The diversity of BCR heavy chain CDR3 repertoire was also significantly decreased in CTX group. Although there is still a big gap from the controls, the diversity was picked up after GM -CSF treatment. The expression of IGHD01-01, IGHD02-14 and IGHJ04-01 with high-frequency usage regularly and significantly changed in three groups, and many genes with low-frequency usage lost in CTX group and did not reappear in GM -CSF group. Moreover, two shared sequences and accounted for the highest proportion in GM -CSF group have been detected in animal model of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. These results revealed that GM -CSF can partially restore changes in the BCR heavy chain CDR3 repertoire while promoting lymphocyte regeneration, but it may also lead to rearrangement, proliferation and activation of abnormal B cells, which can provide a basis for further study on the adverse immunological effects and mechanism of GM -CSF treatment.

Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease associated with biofilm formation, gingival recession, and supporting bone loss that can lead to the formation of periodontal pockets and, ultimately, tooth loss. Clinical treatment for periodontitis through scaling and antibiotics still faces the problems of unavoidable bleeding, injury to periodontal tissue, drug resistance, and insufficient treatment. Herein we prepared an injectable anti-periodontitis ointment with catalytic activity that consists of Pt nanocluster (PtNC) modified g-C3N4 (CN), and PEG400/PEG4000, which efficiently treated biofilm-infected periodontitis. PtNCs (<2 nm) with ultralow content (0.07%) were formed on the surface of CN using mild ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Due to the strong O2 adsorption and activation ability of CN-PtNCs and their mutual electron transfer, they show both oxidase-like and peroxidase-like activities and produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the dark. CN-PtNCs showed strong biofilm elimination ability towards Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Furthermore, benefiting from the good biocompatibility of CN-PtNCs and the injectable property of the PEG400/PEG4000 ointment, the CN-PtNC ointment with high bioavailability successfully treated periodontitis in rats, alleviating inflammation and reducing bone loss, and showed better performance than periocline. Therefore, this catalytic system is promising for an efficient, non-invasive, and antibiotic-free treatment of periodontitis.

Considering the abundance of iron and manganese within the Earth's crust, the cathode O3-NaFe0.5Mn0.5O2 has shown great potential for large-scale energy storage. Following the strategy of introducing specific heteroelements to optimize the structural stability for energy storage, the work has obtained an O3-type NaFe0.4Mn0.49Cu0.1Zr0.01O2 that exhibits enhanced electrochemical performance and air stability. It displays an initial reversible capacity of 147.5 mAh g-1 at 0.1C between 2 and 4.1 V, a capacity retention ratio exceeding 69.6% after 100 cycles at 0.2C, and a discharge capacity of 70.8 mAh g-1 at a high rate of 5C, which is superior to that of O3-NaFe0.5Mn0.5O2. The codoping of Cu/Zr reserves the layered O3 structure and enlarges the interlayer spacing, promoting the diffusion of Na+. In addition, the structural stability and air stability observed by Cu-doping is well maintained via the incorporation of extra Zr favoring a highly reversible phase conversion process. Thus, this work has demonstrated an efficient strategy for developing cobalt/nickel-free high-capacity and air-stable cathodes for sodium-ion batteries.

Background: Irisin, a new exercise-related myokine, has been shown to be associated with a variety of diseases including serious neurological disorders. However, whether irisin is involved in the pathogenesis of vascular dementia (VD) has not yet been reported. Our aim is to determine the serum irisin level in patients with VD and investigate its relationship with cognitive function. Methods: The subjects of the study were VD patients and controls with normal cognitive function who were hospitalized in the Neck-Shoulder and Lumbocrural Pain Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from July 2018 to June 2020. Upon admission, a cognitive function assessment was performed. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the concentration of irisin in serum. Results: During the study period, 187 subjects (82 controls and 105 VD patients) were included in the analysis. The serum irisin level of VD patients was significantly lower than that of the control group (p < 0.001). Spearman analysis showed that irisin was positively correlated with HLD-C and MoCA, and negatively correlated with all clinical characteristics except for HCY. Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for all clinical characteristics, the serum irisin of VD patients still had a significant correlation with MoCA (ß = 0.304, p = 0.029). According to receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, the diagnostic accuracy for serum irisin levels on VD was 76% with the sensitivity and 71% with specificity respectively. Conclusions: These data indicate that a decrease in serum irisin levels is a powerful biological marker for cognitive decline in patients with VD, even after adjustment for risk factors. Further multi-center studies need to confirm this connection, which may pave the way for new treatment options.

BACKGROUND Risk factors for intraoperative acquired pressure injury (IAPI) in patients undergoing various surgical procedures have been described in previous studies. However, whether risk factors for IAPI in patients undergoing neurosurgery differ remains unknown. The aim of the present study was to explore independent risk factors for IAPI in patients undergoing neurosurgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS Data from 465 patients who underwent neurosurgery between October 2017and December 2018 and who were at high risk of IAPIs were retrospectively analyzed. Independent risk factors for IAPI were evaluated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression models. RESULTS Sixty-nine IAPIs (14.8%) in 465 patients undergoing neurosurgery were assessed. Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that being overweight (odds ratio [OR] 2.685; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.206-5.975; P=0.016), prone position (OR 7.502, 95% CI 2.470-22.787. P<0.001), lateral position (OR 15.301, 95% CI 4.903-47.753, P<0.001), use of a head frame (OR 3.716, 95% CI 1.431-9.653, P=0.007), surgical times of 4 to 8 h (OR 7.276, 95% CI 2.249-23.542, P<0.001), and surgical times ≥8 h (OR 173.248, 95% CI 32.629-919.896, P<0.001) all were associated with an increased risk of IAPI in patients undergoing neurosurgery. The factors associated with reduced risk of IAPI were high serum albumin levels (OR 0.099, 95% CI 0.016-0.608, P=0.013) and use of memory sponge pads (OR 0.064, 95% CI 0.020-0.202, P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS The present study indicates that being overweight, prone and lateral positioning, use of a head frame, and longer surgical times are associated with an increased risk of IAPI in patients undergoing neurosurgery. Prospective studies should be conducted to verify these findings and consideration should be given to use of these factors in clinical practice to identify high-risk patients.

We describe the synthesis of MnO2-coated porous Pt@CeO2 core-shell nanostructures (Pt@CeO2@MnO2) as a new theranostic nano-platform. The porous Pt cores endow the core-shell nanostructures with high photothermal conversion efficiency (80%) in the near-infrared region, allowing for photothermal therapy (PTT) and photoacoustic imaging (PA) of tumors. The combination of the Pt core and porous CeO2 interlayer enhances the separation of photo-generated electrons and holes, which is beneficial for the generation of singlet oxygen. With the porous structures of the cores and interlayers, the Pt@CeO2@MnO2 nanostructures are further loaded with an anti-cancer drug (doxorubicin, DOX). The degradation of the MnO2 shell in the tumor microenvironment (TME) can generate O2 for enhanced photodynamic therapy (PDT) and simultaneously trigger DOX release. PA imaging shows good accumulation and retention of DOX-loaded Pt@CeO2@MnO2 in tumors, which guides precise laser irradiation to initiate combined PTT and PDT. The synergistic PTT/PDT/chemotherapy demonstrated by DOX-loaded Pt@CeO2@MnO2 yields remarkable therapeutic outcomes in vitro and in vivo. Taken together, our DOX-loaded Pt@CeO2@MnO2 provides a new avenue for designing high-performance nano-platforms for imaging and therapeutics.

Cr8O21 can be used as the cathode material in all-solid-state batteries with high energy density due to its high reversible specific capacity and high potential plateau. However, the strong oxidation of Cr8O21 leads to poor compatibility with polymer-based solid electrolytes. Herein, to improve the cycle performance of the battery, Al2O3 atomic layer deposition (ALD) coating is applied on Cr8O21 cathodes to modify the interface between the electrode and the electrolyte. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, etc., are used to estimate the morphology of the ALD coating and the interface reaction mechanism. The electrochemical properties of the Cr8O21 cathodes are investigated. The results show that the uniform and dense Al2O3 layer not only prevents the polyethylene oxide from oxidization but also enhances the lithium-ion transport. The 12-ALD-cycle-coated electrode with approximately 4 nm Al2O3 layer displays the optimal cycling performance, which delivers a high capacity of 260 mAh g-1 for the 125th cycle at 0.1C with a discharge-specific energy of 630 Wh kg-1.

Objective: Cage rearing has critical implications for the laying duck industry because it is convenient for feeding and management. However, caging stress is a type of chronic stress that induces maladaptation. Environmental stress responses have been extensively studied, but no detailed information is available about the comprehensive changes in plasma metabolites at different stages of caging stress in ducks. We designed this experiment to analyze the effects of caging stress on performance parameters and oxidative stress indexes in ducks. Methods: Furthermore, liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS-MS) was used to determine the changes in metabolites in duck plasma at 5 (CR5), 10 (CR10), and 15 (CR15) days after cage rearing and traditional breeding (TB). The associated pathways of differentially altered metabolites were analyzed using KEGG database. Results: The results of this study indicate that caging stress decreased performance parameters, and the plasma T-SOD levels were increased in the CR10 group compared with the other groups. In addition, 1431 metabolites were detected. Compared with the TB group, 134, 381 and 190 differentially produced metabolites were identified in the CR5, CR10 and CR15 groups, respectively. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) show that the selected components sufficiently distinguish the TB group and CR10 group. KEGG analysis results revealed that the differentially altered metabolites in duck plasma from the CR5 and TB groups were mainly associated with ovarian steroidogenesis, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, and phenylalanine metabolism. Conclusions: In this study, the production performance, blood indexes, number of metabolites and PCA were compared to determine effect of the caging stress stage on ducks. We inferred from the aforementioned experimental results that caging-stressed ducks were in the sensitive phase in the first 5 days after caging, caging for approximately 10 days was an important transition phase, and then the duck continually adapted.
